Should zerk gear be used by casual players?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

The key question to ask is what will I be fighting. Zerk is undoubtedly the best against single creatures, because the Zerk buries the enemy before it buries you.

But, against mobs or elites and champions, time is no longer your friend.

I’ll never build another set of zerk armor, because I don’t like having to WP after rough situations. I don’t play PvP, WvW, or raids, so I don’t think I will ever need it again.

Except you can take on multiple veterans elites as zerk. People already do it.

Kind of depends on the individual.

And enemy type(s).

The bazaar’s heart if probably the quickest to complete. Just fight the overzealous villagers. They give decent progression and you can usually complete the heart after maybe 7 of them. There also seems to be a bug where if you feed one of the seraph some corn outside the west gate when the bar is above 60%, the heart will instantly complete.

Be careful with this heart. When you feed a hungry seraph, they will take all your food from the fishing cages, both crawdads and fresh seafood (At least if you don’t have any corn on you. I’ve never tried it with corn, so I don’t know what happens if you do).

The pearl merchant is in the house south of the waypoint, by the way, and handing over your pearls advances the heart as well.

What you just said is what I figured out last night. It explains why the seafood was disappearing on me as I was making a counter clockwise rotation when doing map completion for my characters. They were meant to be used at Saidra.

I guess it’s one way to quickly complete that heart as each individual food they take counts and you’re turning them in all at one. A bit incessant though with how easy it is to complete anyway compared to a couple others on the map.

Players can wait another week or so for the 1AP that can easily be gotten solo unlike the defend event with the horrible scaling.

That’s not true because in order to get the achievement you must finish a group event. And a group event that is REALLY hard on a level similar to the lumberyard and ship events where you need to break breakbars of some torch bearers before they reach the prisoners. It’s probably the hardest event to do in the entire zone and it’s available only ONCE per run or at least it has a very long cooldown.

So if you wait for the map to die, you will never get the achievement.

The one achievement to save the people from being burned at the stake doesn’t require a group. I did not see anything to indicate that it couldn’t be done solo. It was only 3 mobs from what I remember. I did it with a few other people and they went down very quickly.

Also as an FYI, I got the lumberyard achievement with one other person doing it. Scaling is a factor.

Good to know. So it’s probably a scaling issue because when I tried that event it was near impossible to break the breakbars

Yeah. There’s something wrong with that entire map when it comes to scaling. Even the hearts seem off compared to other maps although this isn’t impacted by the number of people in the area.

I think achievements are added after the majority of the map is developed. That event could have been added along with it. They probably don’t have a final check in place to see whether any achievements require an event to have failed.

That said, if someone needs the defend event then I’d say that the map should defend the fort. I say this because in maybe a week, that event is going to fail more often than succeed once people abandon the map. Players can wait another week or so for the 1AP that can easily be gotten solo unlike the defend event with the horrible scaling.

I really don’t get why people are complaining about this. I didn’t even really it was supposed to be a jumping puzzle to get to the peach, there are like 4 jumps tops.

Plus, if you really can’t make them, there is a spot you can glide to the peach tree ledge from while skipping the jumps. So no jumps required at all.

Yeah. I saw it as being no different than a lot of the other vistas that require some form of jumping.

All casual refers to is a player’s playtime and maybe investment with the game. It’s not an accurate indicator of skill level. A casual player can be just as good in berserker gear as someone who plays 12+ hours a day.

There’s two types of casual. The time casual and the playstyle casual.

The time ones don’t have the time or don’t care to put in the time.

The playstyle ones could play for hours, but don’t care about being perfect or doing things quickly.

Which still doesn’t preclude either from using berserker gear. I don’t care about being perfect or to be the fastest at clearing content yet I have done just fine in berserker. My ability to perform in berserker has nothing to do with how much time I’ve chosen to invest in the game nor nor how perfect I want to be. Sure, I can take the time to memorize all of the telegraphed attacks, but that’s largely unnecessary in this game.

Shouldn’t they have downscaled after enough time?

Only if you kill them. Basic enemies are scaled on spawn and do not dynamically adjust.

It’s odd those since I’ve done events in TD where they were about level 82 but were no different than a level 80.

Do be honest, Saidra defend event will start failing within a week or two once people get all of the rewards.

While the map and events themselves are fine, the scaling of everything is absurd. You have tanky white mantle who then very often can be veterans or higher with what appears to be nobody else around. I also fought level 82 ghosts outside Nolan well after the event finished. Shouldn’t they have downscaled after enough time?

I can give some tips since I caved and decided to map complete on my other characters.

For the heart of the west end of the map, ignore the ration kits and go south to the training area. You want to do the shield blocking which takes maybe 10 blocks to complete the heart. This is the fastest that I have found to complete it.

For Loamhorst, go to all of the traps and collect everything. Kill all crabs and scales that spawn. Save the seafood for Saidra as you’ll be killing two birds with one stone. If you can hop do a different instance then do so but this likely won’t be an option in a few weeks after everyone abandons the map. Putting out fires is fairly quick to add progression. If there’s a defend event or skirmish, I try to tag mobs.

Fort Evenia’s heart goes quickly if you know how to avoid detection. Using water from the well to put out the forge in the first area adds a decent amount of progression. This usually takes me a few minutes to complete.

Saidra is one of the longer ones to complete as nothing yields decent progression. This was why I suggested farming the traps at Loamhorst. One of the cooks will take the seafood which should reward progression depending on how many you turned in. The quickest way seems to be during the defend event and just tagging as many mobs as you can.

For Nolan, the defend event seems to be the quickest. I noticed that some of the ghosts, after their event completes, award decent progression but it could have been a fluke. This is probably the grindiest one to complete.

The transition from underwater to land combat needs some work too. The quaggan that you escort on the northern route stops and is ambushed by enemies right where you transition between the two. I ended up failing the escort because I kept switching back and forth when trying to attack them. Actually, I went into that limbo where you’re underwater but have no skills.

The ghost cat does move around. I once found it just S of the stampeding centaur entryway, and once S down the road from the homestead- just E of the road. Both times it was under the rock overhangs.

The bloodstone-crazed cat, Lady Wisteria Whiskington, is only found in Cadacus’ manor. I’m pretty sure you have to defeat the boss before the doors will open to give you access to the cat.

You can get it before beating him.

Players shouldn’t need to be instructed to focus the adds first. If they are having a difficult time then it should be obvious that they should kill them.

The camera can still be an issue although zooming in helps some as well as rotating the camera to a better angle.

The AoE effects are more manageable now and more consistent with that of previous story instances. He also does phase when you break his bar.

In no way can you be one-shot unless you have no armor on and very low base HP. Story instances should not be catered to bad players and of course what equates to a bad player is subjective.

Thanks for the heads up Ayrilana.

Can’t say I am a fan of this idea. It locks the farm behind those who have access to ls3ep4 only and doesn’t benefit the wider playerbase. Better drops and salvage rates were the answer imo.

I don’t get why such a benefit should be accessible to people that don’t have HoT access … what is your logic behind such a thing needing to benefit everyone?

What percentage of the playerbase is still holding out on purchasing the expansion? I can’t see Anet trying to please both sets of players and especially if one is significantly smaller than the other. Eventually they’ll have to look forward rather than backward.

LS themed legendaries so far

Ayrilana.1396

I can almost guarantee we’ll not see that many episodes.
My personal hamfist is that Lazarus is Palawa Joko, plenty of reasons to believe that so that we’ll get 1 or 2 more episodes in which I think the anarchial breakdown of the white mantle will occur and Rytlock will have a trial or encounter of sorts, after which episode 8 will in fact be the next expansion if my previously spoilercovered hamfist is correct, which would take us to Elona

Except that, with the current episode, it seems that each team has a separate story arc which will then converge into the expansion. I don’t see anything that backs up what’s in your spoilers as nothing in the season thus far has pointed in that direction.

At the current trend, episode 8 would release in October. Anet likely has only been working on the expansion in force since April after they rolled out the large update. I can’t see them announcing an expansion until towards the end of the year, and unless it’s pretty much complete by then, we’d have a content drought like in 2015.

With a longer season, this would allow more opportunities for the other legendary weapons to get released and be themed with those episodes.

Ayrilana.1396

My thinking is that there will be at least 9 but likely around 12 as they can release episodes up to the expansion rather than have a long gap. As each teams produces their 4th episode, they’ll get absorbed into the expansion team.

Six episodes is unlikely because the expansion is probably nowhere near being released yet and I’m sure they’d want to avoid another 8 month content drought. Episode 7 will probably focus on Lazarus and Marjory.

Another thing, since the legendary weapons are based off the theme of each LS episode, that makes you wonder how many legendary weapons were actually made, or in the process, as of HoT’s launch.

It’s actually the opposite. You want as few people as possible. I was able to do it solo fairly easily in a pre-patch instance (empty map). However, I didn’t get the achievement although the bar was full, so it may be bugged.

I did it solo and was not able to and their were at least 4 up at one time. With them being white mantle, they were also tanky.

The bar cannot go down once or it fails. Killing another thief and returning supply can bring the bar back to full. Not sure how that makes sense but that’s what happens.

Edit: Here’s what happens.

One of the white mantle or skritt succeeds in stealing and returning back to their spawn with the supplies. This is what causes the bar to go down and results in the achievement failing. Them grabbing the supplies doesn’t cause the bar to go down.

People are getting confused because killing another mob and returning those supplies can refill the bar back to full. You still failed the achievement but the bar is misleading you into thinking otherwise.

In order to get the achievement, you need a fairly large group. It’s impossible for a handful of players to do it as they start out as veterans and there’s about 5 up at a time. Eventually this will become almost impossible to get for latecomers.

I suggest making them start out as normal mobs and only scale up to veterans or higher when there’s more people. The number that can be out cat one time could also be adjusted.

Also, please remove that mesmer which can insta-port supplies and cause a fail.

It’s a hassle to manually toss collection items that serve no purpose anymore. An easy solution, in my opinion, would to give them all a vendor value if at least 1 copper. This way we can get rid of them fairly quickly.

On the same subject, can a note be added to each collection item that it is only valuable to that collection. I remember seeing this on some items but it’s not very consistent. This could resolve the confusion that some have as to whether they should keep it or not.
