No mounts are needed and I am increasingly confused by the constant insistence on them for a game that has smallish maps and waypoints.
+1
I’m less confused and more irritated though. I really wish the moderators would consolidate all of these threads into one and enforce it.
World of Warcraft allows for the claiming of inactive names. They also have a system for showing how long the name owner’s account has been inactive.
Surprise!
This isn’t WoW.
Anet seems to have went with the most logical reasoning: more people would logically have a problem with not having enough friends to play with as opposed to too many. Have you ever thought, “dang it! I have too many close friends! I need to get rid of some of these kittens!”? Developers of an MMO seem to think that wouldn’t be the case. So we got corralled up together.
Heh…
A sane person would think that. An animal hoarder wouldn’t.
While I’m not saying we’re “kittens”, well not all of us, it is interesting to note that many of the same consequences seen in animal hoarding apply here in the great Megaserver mess.
I think you may also be confused as to what constitutes a “close friend”. Personally, and I recognize I may be wrong in this, but I feel if you have 100+ “close friends” – I would say you probably have none. Ripping me away from my server community, breaking my guilds ability to stay together, and flooding the map with apathetic strangers just doesn’t cut it.
At the end of your post you even went so far as to trivialize the vast majority of posts in this thread as being “Yay or Boo” … Imagine you thought you were being cute? There are a LOT of great posts, extremely constructive and thought out responses. They are there. But after nearly 4 months of living with the Megaserver, 47 pages of feedback in this one thread alone, and little to no word from the powers that be…. I guess it must be so surprising that responses given both for and against the megaserver seems oft repeated.
Does that take away from each individual post?
Kitten No.

Many people take a break from this game for 3, 6, 12 months or whatever timeframe suits them so to come back and have your name removed seems a little unfair.
I was away from a different game to this for 9 months and when i logged back in my names were removed for inactivity. I logged out and deleted the game and never went back.
I haven’t played in over a month and I don’t believe I will be any time soon because I can no longer stand the state of the game. With that being said if I were to return, whenever that may be, if my names were removed because of “inactivity” – I would also log out, uninstall, and never look back again.
Why did they have to “fix” low-pop servers? There was nothing at all wrong with them. I like a low population server. That’s why I chose the one I did at the beginning. Now no matter where I go, I’m on an ultra-high population server, and it really annoys me.
The solution might have been to allow occasional free server transfers (say two to four weekends a year maybe?). People could gravitate towards the level of population that they liked until they found a suitable home. And WvW would (hopefully) not be seriously messed up if the free transfers happened infrequently enough.
Everyone gets to play “their way”. The world doesn’t get torn apart.
I agree with you in this, Hamfast.
If the problem was population based, they should have come up with a solution that didn’t screw so many people over. There was no compromise and now there is no choice. You don’t like 100 people at your event with you? Well too bad – Either deal with it or GTFO. That seems to be ArenaNet’s stance anyway.
I really don’t understand it. There were high pop and low pop servers… why did they take the choice away?
Fugly back skins.
He isn’t the only one to think so, Vayne.
Pah, back in the old days, you’d stick a cassette in a computer (yes, really), type LOAD "", press play and go off and do something else for half an hour while the game loaded.
Some things are not meant to be remembered. * shudders *
Always amuses me when I see people defend ArenaNet for only wanting to make money, because they’re a business and that’s what a business is expected to do in order to survive. Funny thing is, people, that its not the only thing they’re expected to do.
As a business owner I can tell you that if it were all just about me counting the $ as it gets thrown at me, well then just about EVERYONE would be a business owner. So why is it that everyone isn’t? Product and/or services must be kept in good standing AND you must have great customer relations.
So please forgive me if I do point out when they make a cheap money grab and call them out on it, as they are severely lacking in their required business obligations. If they continue to stay afloat despite it all, so be it, either way I’m not going to remain quiet.
I wonder what would I do for 1 sec load. :/
I know, right?
Shame on ArenaNet for breaking the immersive feel of the game for people. Sheesh. We shouldn’t be forced to take a breath and realize we’re not IN-GAME, but instead staring at a computer screen. Kitten it all!
It’s not all that odd if you think about it. ArenaNet is only interested in making money. Giving people a 2 week limitation forces people to buy, Buy, BUY! If they made it unlimited, yet kept the rarity the same, some people would still rush in to purchase keys – but nowhere near as many that will because its “2 weeks only”.
Whoever decided that flying unicorns shooting from a bow would make a bow “legendary” needs to have a hard kick to the testicles. Same goes for all the other nonsense like rainbows, flowers, discoballs, confetti, etc.
Actually it is possible to stack the auras of certain legendary weapons to the point where all you see is your character’s outline in a giant laser light show bubble.
That was exactly my point. It will only get worse from here.
I always thought my kasmeer staff was better than legend. 75% of the ingame population isn’t using it. It has a feather trail which sets it apart from other trails like footprints and that glowy thing.
Less and less people seem to care about the details in weaponry, or armor for that matter, because its now all about being flashier than your peers. “Keeping up with the Joneses” comes into play in Tyria too…
Player A: I have a weapon with special effects!
Player B: Maaaaaan…. I want that!
Player A: /flex
months later
Player B: Hey, look. * flashes new weapon with special effects * I got it!
Player A: That’s nice…. but check this out. * flashes multiple legendaries and their effects on armor/footprints *
Players C-P: * admires the free laser light show *
Player B: ….. Dude, that’s awesome! I’ve so gotta have that now.
Player Q: /facepalm
…. eventually we won’t be able to see “characters” anymore because giant masses of flame, light, darkness, etc etc will be all we’ll be able to see.
I have a bad habit of playing with character creation too much. Including Makeover Kits…. I’ve gone through far too many in the past, back when I chose to purchase gems. Wish they’d introduce an option that you could “unlock” each new set of hairstyles, faces, etc. That way you would have them on your account in a normal character creation. * shrugs * It’ll never happen but its a thought.
“Good looking” is relative.
I don’t mind the idea.
However there will always be those that shout, “GAH! The grind!!!!”
I don’t disagree with you there, Anmida.
However it doesn’t by itself stop them from being in the game, does it? :/
To those saying “No” because dwarves are “overdone”.
Dragons are overdone.
Undead armies are overdone.
Humans are overdone.
As far as parties go all I can say is… Be careful who you associate yourself with.
It totally sucks that there are people out there that do things like this, but that is the world we live in …. and no surprise the world we play in too.
No one can honestly sit back and accept the megaserver as an improvement. If you do, Anet has already won, and will be inspired to continue adding ridiculous updates such this in the near future.
The complaints are steadily slowing down… eventually these “Feedback” threads will stop being bumped and will be buried. People are tired of complaining… ArenaNet has won. They’ve ignored us and their “problem” is slowly going away as a result.
I fear its all they ever intended to do.
Life happens where “what I want to accomplish” meets “what I am capable of accomplishing.” As I get older, the two grow closer together and I learn more about my limits. I think that most of the people posting here are younger than I am, and still believe that people are capable of doing much more than they really are.
Pretty much on the mark here, I think. It’s one of the reasons I don’t post as much as I used too.
I can’t argue the truth of this.
However I would never support or encourage complacency. Even if something seems hopeless, I feel we should always keep trying for the better.
I’ve seen another Azure before, which is no surprise. But no other Azhure.
Any other questions?
The Official Feedback threads = The Rug
Player feedback = The Dirt
Huh…
I actually like the idea of a function that automatically Blocks people if you report them as Gold Sellers/Spammers. I mean… its not like anyone that reports a gold seller wants to keep hearing from them, right?
+1 OP
You can get smart with me all you want.
But only ArenaNet can tell me what I am allowed to wear and/or wield in this game, not you or anyone else. And guess what? There are already some weapons in game that are sleek and the game hasn’t broken nor caused anyone to go blind because they’ve had to look “closely” to see exactly what every passerby is or isn’t wearing/wielding.
The supporters of this thread are NOT asking for the removal of fat cartoonish weapon skins… They’re asking for more of what they like.
You have no authority to say they can’t have that. Just as we have no authority to say you can’t wield fat/large weapons.
So…..Guild Wars 2 is a single player game now?
Don’t know where I said that?
Tell me… when you dress in the morning, is it so you can be stopped and inspected by everyone or do you dress for yourself? Granted there are exceptions to this but lets keep this thread PG shall we?
Don’t think anyone in the real world would stop someone and say they’re not allowed to wear a certain shirt because the print on it isn’t large enough.
100% agree. Theres so many nice skins in the game but most of them suffer from being oversized which makes them look odd.
I was considering getting the Ley Line focus because its the first non pink glowy focus which goes relatively well with infinite light. Unfortunately its too big so i have changed my mind. It would be perfect if it was half the size. They dont need to be huge to look nice anet!
They need to be huge to look nice from more than 5 feet away.
We usually watch our characters quite close so no need to be huge.
Keyword. You usually watch your characters quite close. That’s all good, but what about the million other players who play this game. When I’m playing a MASSIVELY MULTIPLAYER ONLINE ROLE PLAYING GAME, I like to see what other characters have equipped by a quick glance or look at them and if larger weapons get that job done, then it should stay that way.
I don’t exactly like your idea of squinting for ten seconds to see if that small sword at the character’s side is a Spanish style Rapier with a Cup hilt, or an Italian style Rapier with a Swept hilt, only to find that after five more seconds of squinting that its just a simple arming sword from an earlier period. yeah, that sounds really interesting, but….No!
- Realistic is fine, but the weapon has to be big enough to notice the individual details, otherwise it will get lost and look the exact same as every other weapon made the same size. At that point, what is the point in wasting resources to make a bunch of swords that all look the same?
This is going to sound terrible but I personally do not care what others can see. I care about what I can see of my Character.
That doesn’t sound terrible at all, Teofa. Please remember that when you purchased the game you didn’t do it to play by other players rules or expectations, only your own. You are within your rights to want this. Its not like you’re asking for a shield with a giant hand flipping everyone the bird on it and then you’re saying you “don’t care what others do or do not see on your character”.
Personally my characters are not in game for other people’s amusement and/or inspection. They are there for ME.
100% agree. Theres so many nice skins in the game but most of them suffer from being oversized which makes them look odd.

We are not asking for all weapons to be like what we’re suggesting. We ARE asking for more options for us. It does not have to be one way or another in the case of weapons skins. Diversity here is NOT a bad thing.
Some of us like slim weapons. We like the detail on them and the beauty – we don’t need them to be giant adult play toy like paddles in order to /flex and feel kitten.
The OP’s suggestion shouldn’t even be an issue.
You don’t like sleek weapons? Don’t use them.
You like large weapons instead? Okay, go use them.
Shocking, I know.
I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing a reappearance of the Tengu weapons that were available in the bonus mission pack. I had the Tengu sword and bow. They were puuuurty
I loved the Tengu shield.
The amount of shield skins that I would be caught wielding can be counted on one hand in GW2…. less so if you count the ones that don’t clip on my charr’s armor.
Zackie, you’re only proving him right. Please calm down.
At what point, exactly, are you going to stop stirring up drama for the sole purpose of trying to make the “other side” look unreasonable because you riled them up with horrible analogies and oversimplifications?
This thread should get locked, like all the others, because even with people trying to discuss this maturely things like this keep hitting, repeatedly, by the same people over and over.
I can’t help but agree with you in this. This thread is quickly becoming unsalvageable.
Lock thread, please.
mount haters: i don’t like chocolate, nobody else can eat them
Not really.
More like: I don’t like the taste. smell, or sight of chocolate so I would rather not have it introduced in a fashion where I would have to see and smell it while the sweet shop reduced production of the things I do like in order to add chocolate.
yea sounds like selfish people. like vegans saying all meat production should stop
Its more like vegans not wanting a barbecue pit installed in their vegan restaurant. The anti-mount people are not asking that mounts not be an option in MMO gaming, merely that they not be added to a game designed to not include them.
so vegans can declare that a restaurant is officially vegan and chase out all the meat eaters in that restaurant?
No, they can’t and wouldn’t “chase them out”. However they would only serve vegan dishes.
It’s impossible for this topic to remain civil at this point, I think.
For a very long time the discussion of mounts has been brought up time and time again… I believe ArenaNet has enough opinion from both sides here for a good understanding as to where we all stand. We can’t add mounts to the game – only the Devs can. Time will tell if they think its a good idea, can be added, should be added, and/or what effect it will have on the game and its playerbase.
At this point I don’t think any of us is adding anything new to the debate, its all just being repeated back and forth with varying degrees of disdain. So well done on us, people, I’m sure the constant bickering is exactly how we will get our ideas “heard”.
If you have something constructive to add towards the implementation of mounts or sound reasoning against it – Please give it. Otherwise I would ask that we stop the “Mount-haters” VS “Mount-lovers” word vomit that is quickly destroying this thread and all the ones like it.
…. and no, I have no “high horse” here. I’ve been guilty of bickering and spewing word vomit myself. But I figured I’d ask.
Just another thread where people are trying to say who does and does not have the right to be a commander.
Join the squad of the commander you like and get over it already. kitten it all we have a system in place that automatically ignores “tags” if you’re in a squad. Use it.
Hopefully they can implement a toggle that removes all tags from the map someday.. .but until then you need to stop your whining over this. Nobody here can decide who is or isn’t “worthy” of being a commander.
Spent time crafting in LA today and absolutely NO-ONE spoke in map chat or /say during the 20 mins or so I was there. (It wasn’t the language filter either because as soon as I zoned into Dry Top, I was greeted with a guild recruitment message in German.)
Remember when players would say Hello/Goodbye etc as they logged on/off? And tell jokes, answer questions, share tips, announce mining runs/temple runs, ask for help in wvw or with a world boss?
People are learning to avoid /map and /say now. Its becoming automatic to ignore chat because its usually not the type of conversation people want to engage in, because of MegaTrolldom. We have a game, an MMO even, that is causing players to disconnect from those around them.
Well done, ArenaNet.
Only real disadvantage I can think of would be AP related. Personal story, like Draco said, and cultural armor related achievements.
I see there is no way to reason with the mount-haters… a sad thing.
You can reason with me, and I in fact did step back from my position of “no, never” to “meh, cosmetic only with no effects” after really re-examining the whole thing and realizing people want it that badly.
Now, though, you people are making me want to go hardline back because I just cannot win unless I collapse entirely and go “yes, mounts, woohoo, gimme shinies”.
Its not just the Mount argument, that happens in most debates. You’re not reasonable or understanding unless you agree with me and support my opinion, don’t you know?
Lets just cut to the chase, Anet add the term “mount/mounts” to the profanity filter so we never have to go through this topic again….please! At least we can talk about kittens instead of mounts, everyone likes kittens right?
Doubt that will happen…
But strangely enough whenever I see the word “mount” on these forums it has the same affect on me as “kitten” does.
Also you’ll never get a response on this forum from the devs on this matter. Talking about other games, even gw1, is not allowed and this thread will be closed shortly. Thank you for participating. Have a nice day.
The Devs/Moderators pick and choose which threads to close on a whim. They’ve left hundreds of threads open that have continuously talked about Guild Wars and many other games, across platforms. They are never consistent in their enforcement. Ever.
This is not going to happen.
You’re asking ArenaNet to thin out its already overworked staff and to place them on a game that is in its retirement years. As much as I love the original game – It just will not happen.
I also want that “Termite Shovel” to be a hammer skin too, it looks like a giant wooden Spoon. I’d run around yelling SPOOOOON! >.>
Okay that was a funny image. Seeing as they are all for creating crazy and unrealistic weapon skins – you have a better chance at getting your wish than we do.
Personally anyone of my characters that has used a greatsword has gone with the Ebon Vanguard skin since launch. Long time, I know, but I can’t lower myself to using most of the others. Its silly looking. There will always be some people that want to run around with a shovel or a giant candy cane – but I have never been one of them.
I prefer some manner of realism in my fantasy games. I suppose weapon skins is where I’ve drawn a line.
No, please.
If they were to roll with your idea and try selling them in the Gemstore, going against their word that they would remain exclusive to those that earned them – That would create far more negative feedback for them than positive. Are they not used to upsetting their customer base, you may ask? Sure. But for them to intentionally jump on something like this knowing that it would aggravate the masses would be ….. a mistake.
I see no difference in your perceived token system and the currency system already in place. Except maybe the copper, silver, and gold coins have your face stamped on them instead of the BLTC?
+1
I’m tired of the cheap, fat weapon skins.
No longer can I look at the majority of the greatsword weapon skins in particular without thinking they’re anything but giant paddles – instead of swords as they should be.
Given that numerous other threads have been brought up on this very question, I think its a given that someone in Anet has “considered” it at some point.
Likelihood of its implementation in game?
Not likely.
Scar tissue =/= Armor
Guild Wars =/= Guild Wars 2
GW2 is not Guild Wars.
…. Why does this matter so much?
