2)PermaDeath
Basically set it so if a player is under the red level of the downed penalty, if that player goes down under it they cannot be resurrected and MUST respawn at a waypoint. This would put more value on staying alive if you are often going down. I would suggest setting rally to 3 second inviability, to make repeat downs less likely.

4)punish berserking/reward defense
Alot of issues come from the fact that glass cannons are a meta. Setting up an effect that deals more damage to players without toughness or vitality. Making stats scaled so more pts mean less effectiveness(can of worms warning on this one). Essentially just make berserking possible but only if the player can dodge nearly every attack.

2) I agree with something like this but also understand that I am in a minority. There is no penalty for dying, NONE, so it is a great contributor to the amount of dead people at events. ’Cause… you know… “who gives a kitten?”

4) Berserkers don’t need to be punished. If death actually had a penalty of some sort then it would punish those not skilled enough to run with Berserker. It would increase the number of viable builds, I think, if staying alive was given some care over speed. (Speed regardless of consequences.)

Yeah, it really doesn’t matter if a WP is close by, I’ve noticed. Players will lay there dead and ask for a res if there’s an ongoing event.

My only issue is how people actually pause and let you go to defeated instead of helping when you are just down. I can’t count the number of times I’ve seen and experienced this. Rezing someone from defeated takes way longer than if they are just down.

As for me, I’ll wait a bit to see if a rez is possible but if people are dropping all around me I don’t want their deaths on my conscious. So I just waypoint and run back. Simple world boss rules in effect in my opinion.

Peace.

if the run is less than 30s I waypoint and immediately run back because I think I can still catch the event and be there when it finishes.

But if anet keeps doing these zones with limited/contested waypoints that require longer runs? I’d almost rather hope for a res since it’ll take longer to run back and probably miss the event.

+1!!!!! forced longer runs because of limited/closed WP only enhances the problem.
Just poor design/game play decisions.
Number 2—- give laurels ( or something signficant for a set number of res’. And not some stupidly high number to restrict success, (a common anet practice btw)).

Dying in the first place is not “poor” though? * sigh *

The laurel idea is interesting though it kinda contributes to Daily Laurels from time to time already. Any more and we could see “death farmers”. I would not like that one bit.

[General Discussion] Rewarding: PvP > PvE ?

in PvP

Posted by: Azhure.1857

Azhure.1857

I think it’s important to differentiate between how PvP and PvE players interpret “rewards” respectively. In general, PvE players want more loot, more skins, more gold, more content and what not. For PvP players, however, succeeding at PvP matches is rewarding in itself. To me, it feels very rewarding to win 1v1s, hold caps, rotate effectively and win close games.

+1
Exactly the point I had tried to make.

Pride and victory are the very best PvP rewards. The excess vanity that comes with PvE rewards is not needed. Worse still is if PvP ever became more “profitable” than PvE …. then the farming horde would soon follow to take advantage. The consequences of that scenario are not to be taken lightly.

In pvp you have to actually understand the game, every retarbanana can play PVE… sorry just look at world bosses, afk-1 hitting till the ground… And while we speak about open world we are STILL FORCED to do “CLOSED” one (dungeons, fractals) to actually make income… GW2 has no sense anymore..

why not?

if sPvP is about skill, then sPvP players should be richer than PvE players.

PvP is about skill. From a pure PvP perspective, riches gained mean nothing in PvP. They do not increase your skill in combat, tactics, and team play. Nor will they ever.

If you’re actually PvE oriented and just want more for your PvP time — I would say that is a sign that what has already been buffed in regards to PvP rewards isn’t and will never be good enough for you. Trivial pursuits towards who has the largest greatsword or who has the shiniest legendary are best suited for the PvE world.

Dead players dragging everybody down.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azhure.1857

Azhure.1857

There’s a significant vein of elitism going through this thread- players that die are ‘bad’, have lousy builds/gear, can’t play right, are a burden on the ‘real’ players and don’t ‘deserve’ any rewards.

Everyone who plays deserves to participate in open world events, and receive the rewards for those events, even if they aren’t perfectionist players. No one should be punished or evicted for dying.

Change how dead players impact the scaling, so that piles of the dead don’t make it harder on the people still standing, make it helpful to rez the dead people, instead of ignoring them; but don’t treat them like trash that needs taken out, no matter what some people act like.

I see your viewpoint. Truly, I do. Even recognizing what it means… I guess it makes me elitist. Which for the record does not please me.

The problem with just eliminating the issue with dead bodies scaling events does nothing to address people tagging events/bosses and staying there doing nothing to contribute to the event. If I had to guess, I figure it would actually make “taggers” more common because the risk of event failure would then become practically nonexistent.

Everyone does deserve to participate. I will not ever argue that. I’ll even go so far as to say that all “participants” should get rewarded. However I will argue that those contributing the most should get larger rewards. To such an extent that the lazy players AND the unpracticed players would feel compelled to step up their game.

The big question I would raise is if its possible for ArenaNet to develop a system that can accurately determine a player’s contribution? Another serious matter to address is what constitutes as event contribution? Outside of events that require you to find Objects ‘A’ and return them to NPC ‘B’ – There is really only one thing. Damage.

Damage.
Not rezzing downed or dead players.
Not staying alive.
Not supporting your allies.
Not control.

It is why many players favor Berserker, and similar stat combos, so heavily. Before the Zerkers in this thread snap at me — I agree that the stat combo is fine and that skilled players can and do use it effectively. But lets be honest here… There are a LOT of players out there that are not learning to do better. At present they don’t have to and apparently by threads such as this it is taboo to even consider that they should.

Personally I’m not asking for perfection. I am asking that people use the tools at their disposal and show some measure of human intelligence. What do I mean by this? We have so many skills and traits in our available kitten nal that can address many problems but it takes time to learn them. Take the time. Practice. Learn to dodge when you need to evade. Realize that tanking with your face, regardless of your profession, is a risk. Study event/boss mechanics. Understand boons, conditions, control, blast finishers, combo fields, etc.

In real combat it is a risk to dive in without any skill and/or knowledge of your opponent. I would like to see some measure of that sense into combat in GW2. If you are familiar with an event/boss and you’re confident, that’s one thing, but if you’re new to something then I think you should exercise caution. Check your enemy. Check your allies. Respond accordingly.

Players are not being encouraged to exercise caution, unfortunately. * shrugs *

This topic is important to me and I would really like to see it addressed. But it is also draining….

This is an interesting idea. I’d love other feedback on this before taking questions to the dev team. (I’m sure they’ve thought of this, but there may be info to share on the subject.)

What do you guys think about auto-waypointing people (assuming after a certain period, of course) in the midst of specific types of combat encounters? And because I don’t think it’d work for every situation, can you specify which combat instances you believe would benefit from this functionality? Somehow I think dying to a rampaging bandit in Ashford wouldn’t count.

Crovax — I hope you don’t mind, but I changed “bad” to “downed” in the subject. It just seems better (and more relevant) that way. S’ok?

I know we’ve had threads on this in the past. Many, not all, players are lazy and mindless about what they’re doing in group gameplay. I don’t necessarily blame them anymore (though I still sometimes wish I could drag their bodies and shove them off a cliff instead of reviving them). Why? Because ArenaNet designed gameplay like this. Run in and tag = you get credit. Period. Nothing more need be done by them.

Its depressing.

As for auto-waypointing – I’m in support of such an idea. But it would still not solve the issue of people not TRYING to contribute fully to an event. What is to stop someone from glomping a mob then dying deliberately so they can sit back safely at a nearby waypoint free of charge? Only to minutes later get full reward for ‘Event Completion’? There isn’t even a repair fee anymore.

Equally depressing thought.

Problem is that most people respond to this line of suggestion with open hostility. Usually along the lines of, “Stop trying to penalize me and let me play how I want!”

@ Gaile:
If you and the team can come up with a good solution for this problem, I would be forever grateful. Truly. It is one of the issues that I have always had with the game.

[Suggestion] Mass Mail for Guild Leaders

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azhure.1857

Azhure.1857

Would be nice if guild leaders, and perhaps their officers too, could have the ability to mail all guild members at once. We have a system that allows players to shift between multiple guilds but doesn’t show them each guild’s posted messages unless they go out of their way to check them regularly.

To avoid this being abused and overused, I really think this should only be for guild leaders. Personally I don’t belong to any guilds where I would feel irritated if I heard from them like this.

To be clear on the purposes that I personally would like it to be used:
- Random off-schedule guild events coming soon.
- Scheduled guild event/mission time changes.

But I know this could have other uses outside of the two I listed.

What do the rest of you think about this?

Please Cap Loot! (Controversial Suggestion)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azhure.1857

Azhure.1857

So many answers…

For starters! Zerging is mindless! You can argue all you want about combo fields, but all you do is making that process of “cooperative skills” as mindless as zerging.

Second! The current system completely devalues all items up to the level of masterwork, as you are getting them in buckets. Opposed to that, players who are exploring in smaller groups or on their own get peanuts, because as you people said, the current drop rates are ridiculous to compensate for all the zerging stuff.
If the zerg-train supper-looting get fixed, the item drop rates can finally be normalized, and it’ll stop being punishing to players who play in smaller groups.

Thirdly, the Silver Wastes events aren’t a solution. They are a nice way to ensure that players will be focused less on tagging and more on killing enemies from all corners, and generally “not zerging”, but then they undermine all of that with that stupid Shovel Mini game that gives tons of greens and blues and cause players to pile up on certain “Hot-spots”, because with the current value of those items, if they don’t give us at least a bucket of them, it’s not considered worthy.
The result in my bags is the same whenever I go to Silver Wastes or Mad King’s Labyrinth so the problem is far from solved.

Fourthly. People assume that by capping the loot, the game will get less rewarding, and most likely haven’t read much of my opening post. If loot get normalized, and stop giving buckets to some players and peanuts to others, the value of the fewer items you’ll be getting will rise, their vendor gold and salvage drops can be increased, and then their drop rates will change, and then perhaps the non exotic trash you craft will become a bit less useless.
If you stop looting 5 potential rares and exotics per second, then A-net can finally increase their drop rates without flooding the market.

I was expecting this suggestion to come under a lot of fire!
People like to think that they are somehow cheating the game with these over-looting methods, but instead they cause the game to evolve with a stupid system in mind, and just punish everyone whose not doing it.

+1

I don’t enjoy zerg warfare either, mind, but a change like this would have negative consequences on community and team play. Imagine the hate that would start to spread if more people appeared for events than was wanted? No, thank you. Map chat can already be bad at times – this would break it.

If they could make smaller scaled events just as rewarding as the large ones, that would be good. Problem is that even if that were done people would still gravitate towards the zerg because it is so mindless. They really don’t have to do anything but autoattack. Its pathetic but it is the state of the game.

I don’t currently see a good fix for the situation that wouldn’t create other problems. :/

Thanks for posting your idea though – with all the hate you may get for it, its still nice to see people trying.

Please keep the conversation respectful, even if you strongly disagree with someone else.

Thank you.

I think the main problem is that we have a new mounts thread every week, and people are tired of having to rehash the same arguments over and over and over again. Why aren’t they all just routinely merged?

Is anyone forcing you to read? The thread clearly says Mounts just ignore it if you already know what it is all about.

One reason I can think of… Since Pro-mount individuals DO start a new mount thread weekly, on average, then they’re flooding the forums with it. Anyone in marketing can tell you that it is effective. So if those of us that are against mounts stop reading these threads, stop adding our arguments against the idea… Then eventually the Pro-Mount people will start saying that nobody or very few are against it so mounts must be what the “community” wants.

I have been wishing that they’d merge all present and future mount threads together for a LONG time. But alas it seems not to be.

Mounts in GW2?
No thank you.

I give more respect to players with regular weapon skins because they’re not showing off a legendary weapon… Which for me is just a public cry of, “Look at me! I did this too! Look at ME!!!”

So over it.

Which is basically a bit unfair because I found my precurser and crafted the legendary myself. But I’m well aware that a lot if not all people suspect I just bought the legendary – and sometimes I like it better that way, after dying like a noob in wvw, for example

I don’t blame you or players like you. They made it so people could just up and pay for their legendary weapons. * shrugs * Had it been made more personal and difficult – I think I would be okay with the situation.

I’m sure there are people that will scream and yell at me, “But its not easy!” Yet for something designed to be “legendary”, yes, yes it is too easy. But it doesn’t matter what I think.

I dislike the idea of passing exp to alts. We already have tomes of knowledge, lvl 20 scrolls and for those that want to spend gold to level their alts quickly, we got crafting.

i see two crowds, one is annoyed by waypoints in general and the other loves them and want more.
then you also have the story of “if you don’t like them, don’t use them” which can be said about mounts too.

i have a simple middle ground, have some really big zones with few waypoints only on really needed places and allow mounts in these areas.
the no waypoint crowd can now get to places where they want and the waypoint lovers can go where they need to go..

and one more thing, if you don’t like mounts, DON’T USE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!!

Only two groups, huh? I like waypoints but I don’t want more. I’m content with the amount ArenaNet has given me. You won’t catch me crying for more, like a child throwing a tantrum in a candy store. I’m also against the implementation of mounts in GW2 – and I’m tired of explaining why.

All of us know that chestfarm was totally abused. No discussion about that.
But is the nerf really the solution ?

ArenaNet: Okay players, we will not nerf this obvious flaw in game design because we trust in you all to be responsible and not abuse it yourselves. Please demonstrate that amazing self control you all are known for.

Players: * trade looks between themselves before breaking into full blown laughter *

Yes, the nerf was the solution to the chestfarm abuse.
Is it an overall fix to the underlying loot problem? No.

The best thing I think they could do would be to balance loot in such a way where people want to farm for successful events, in every zone, rather than the system we have now where they just aren’t a priority because other things are more profitable.

The Unintended Failure that was SW?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azhure.1857

Azhure.1857

People still did them and made gold. It’ just that people have recently gravitated to broken farms that gave out twice the awards.

The only thing really ‘broken’ is that the majority of chests are at Amber. If they put more chests at the other locations people would spread out more. That’s essentially the biggest gripe I’m seeing here, is that in farming maps, everyone clusters at Amber instead of spreading across the map to defend all 4 points (and the escorts).

Nerfing the rewards into oblivion so no one gives a rats kitten about the map is not the way to fix it. Especially considering mobs don’t really drop loot (read: rarely, not never), and champs not at all. The chests balance that factor.

The thing I see broken is that you can easily replenish all the crests you used for keys from crests in chests and by doing a few events.

I don’t see anything wrong with that myself honestly, but that’s just my view on it.

It’s because you’re getting a ton of loot and not thinking about its impact.

People are happy, mat prices go down, maps are populated, lots of people playing the game.

Yep this farm is terrible! How will we say that the game is dying if the economy improves and people start playing again!?!?!

And you’re not considering the impact as well.

You mean the impact like the market being flooded with twister in a jar trinkets, silk prices going down because there are more of them being generated, t5 and t6 prices fluctuating because more are being pumped into the economy and it hasn’t had a chance to stabalize? You mean those types of things? All the same things that get impacted anytime something changes that brings some flux to supply?

Would you prefer prices of all items to fall to vendor prices? Would you prefer the TP to be removed entirely and everything purchasable from vendors for a specific price?

You mean…. like it was in GW1?

chuckle

Things will stabilize. It won’t be that drastic.

Yeah, they’ll stabilize when we reach the point where the farm isn’t worth it anymore.

People don’t really seem to be fully grasping just how unbalanced this farm is and how its effecting the economy.
Though I don’t think the farm will slack off ever without ArenaNet intervention. It is the best farm in the game… by a large margin.
I’m sure Anet is already working on a fix though, so I’m not freaking out, just enjoying what it is while I can.

1) The Silverwastes’ waypoint =/= “No waypoints”

2) The Silverwastes is a tiny map. The distance travelled by foot is not so terrible that it warrants another waypoint. Anyone that believes the distance is too great has been spoiled by the waypoint system.

if you’re at the pact fort or redrocks and someone announces the Tormentor at Blue Oasis, you’ll probably miss the event.

Then instead of sitting where you don’t want to be – go to the area that will spawn the legendary that you’re hunting. This is not rocket science.

Commander tag

Quite honestly, I think the few colors are a bit of a poor selection as it is. Not just in colors, but also in the look of the symbols. I wish we could choose between offensive and defensive types of icons. Like a defend icon, attack icon, dolyak or train icon. Maybe even an event icon (for community event hosts). The commander tag has a wide range of uses, yet for some reason we only have these simple WvW tags in just a few colors.

Even if ArenaNet went so far as to make different shaped icons and labeled them for such use – It would STILL be up to the commander/player to choose which to use. Since that is the case and we already have four colors, why not just pick what each color means as a community and stick with it?

As for asking for more colors, I’m against it. I already find it difficult to enjoy sometimes when it looks like someone tasted way too much of the rainbow and then vomited it back up on my map.

And it is a level 80 area, nothing wrong with decent loot at all.

“Decent” loot doesn’t hit the economy like it has….
Look… Most of us have enjoyed it but I also believe that most of us recognize that it is also crazy.

Or maybe I’m putting too much faith in the GW2 community in that belief.

….but at least it encourages more ressing and discourages dying so casually.

^ True and I like that too.

Has everyone already forgotten how these kittens shot and killed anyone that neared their walls when they were only trying to flee from the destruction of LA? I haven’t. >.<

1) The Silverwastes’ waypoint =/= “No waypoints”

2) The Silverwastes is a tiny map. The distance travelled by foot is not so terrible that it warrants another waypoint. Anyone that believes the distance is too great has been spoiled by the waypoint system.

Would people PLEASE STOP telling ArenaNet to add more to the gemstore. PLEASE!

Keep the shovels where they are but perhaps make it so the treasure can only be obtained by those using the shovels at each individual buried chest location. Would that be an acceptable nerf?

As much as I enjoy the chest farming madness – I would prefer the greater rewards be found in the Silverwastes events. My two cents.

1 Year later, any changes? worth returning?

It has been a year.
Of course there have been changes.
Now get off your lazy kitten and see what they are yourself… then make a determination if you want to return or not.

I think “failure” is a bit harsh. “Unbalanced” seems more fitting, currently. There are many things about Silverwastes that I like – NOT just the chests.

I love Guild Wars just as much as anyone but I do not believe that ArenaNet has any obligation to maintain the game.
