It’s always interesting to see people go to all this trouble for virtual currency but not apply the same level of determination and discipline on say a stock market. A small investment taken far enough can make a healthy return

Doing what the people in GW2 do to make money would get you a 15-20 year jail sentence in most countries…

I don’t think Azrael’s talking about this instance specifically but the TP players in general.

How they spend so much time predicting what will go up and down and buying and selling accordingly. If they put that effort into the actual Stock Market and had enough starting cash, they could make a real fortune.

^ pretty much. Everyone has heard of the tenacity with which people pore over spreadsheets and APIs to dig out data, why you wouldn’t apply the same process to stock markets and shares is beyond me.

Why I left GW2

Azrael.4960

These blasted threads. Every time I see a variant on “why I left GW2?” I mentally answer "quite frankly my dear I don’t give a kitten "

I can see why you think that, but they keep popping up more and more. That’s a serious indication this game is losing a lot of players. People that actually care enough about the game and go to the forums to post things. Now they even care enough that they are posting that they are leaving.
It isn’t good advertising for new players either. Usually, when I’m going to play a new MMO, I first check a couple of things, including their forums. If you look in here, those potentional new players see alot of players complaining(whether the complaints are well argumented or just QQ doens’t matter in this case), and they see lots of players leaving. That’s bad publicity for this game. It’s not like no new player will come, but I’m almost certain a couple of players who wheren’t convinced to buy and play this game or not, didn’t do it after all because of what they saw on the forums.

So indeed, it’s easy to say I don’t give a kitten, I don’t think alot of us do(you could put it in another way though:p), but it’s something that really needs to be taken seriously.

At least, in my opinion that is…..

You mean like three a week? It was just as bad a couple of years ago. That’s not more and more. I’ve had more people who left come back to the game in the last week than there have been leaving posts on these forums and that’s just one little guild.

My guild had 167 members, only 21 are left. 8 came back and now 7 are gone. Out of those 28 now, 13 started playing AA and have gone inactive in GW2. Quite the opposite to you. And honestly, I don’t think even a major update of the expansion-pack size would bring even 20 people back. It’s a missed opportunity, I think. But who knows, if GW3 comes out, we will all be back again! ( I hope! )

At the height of its strength my guild had over 300 active members and was the second largest guild on the server. That was over a year and a half ago. Steady attrition aa people wen their ways to do their things has meant that most nights I’m the only officer left online although now I’m in the middle of a country move so I can’t even log in. Even our guild leader has left the game. At most I might see the last 3 members online and even they’re not on much. The guild will probably still be around in name but I’ll probably tell the few remaining members that are left who log on that there’s no hard feelings if they want to move ro other guilds or rep other guilds.

This is the nature of MMOs. A clan or guild grows and if the members can make something of the game to foster their community then the guild will live for a while then eventually ppl lose interest and move on. Eventually the guild dies.

Waypoints

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azrael.4960

Azrael.4960

As far as waypoints reviving you, that’s actually something that’s come up for me back when I was RPing.

The answer we came up with was that the waypoints have systems in them to make sure you don’t arrive with your head where your arm should be, or all your organs on the outside. If you’re in very bad shape, they kick in and “reassemble” you as you teleport, though you’re still suffering a sort of shock from it, thus the lingering penalties.

I then proceeded to make an asura from the crew responsible for testing those systems, but he was too creepy to play for long…

As for teleporting from the middle of nowhere to another waypoint? We wrote that off as everyone that uses the waypoints having an experimental linking device that allows it. Perhaps that’s what inspired you to go out and make your start as a hero, the fact that you had been asked to test the device. The reason all the NPCs don’t use waypoints the way you do is because they don’t have such a device.

Pre fix Tequatl really did require the sort of coordination that triple wurm required. But now thanks to the teachings of the various pve guilds and training from numerous runs most pve commanders including myself can organise with other random pve commanders without the need for TS. I’ve often commanded with different commanders from night to night and players that show are from all different servers. The experience in Tequatl amongst the general player base is such that most veterans know what to do without being told and newbies are picking up the experience they need to succeed and perhaps lead their own runs.

Wurms is of a difficulty that it is almost a must to have the coordination of an organised guild or guilds.

with practice the wurm will end up like this too, we just need the manpower

That’s then problem though. Wurms is much harder than Tequatl and isn’t as forgiving not map chat. Because of this ppl have become reliant on guilds like TTS and TxS. This reliance has advanced into almost a sense of entitlement nthat because TTS and TxS aren there others don’t have to try.

Conditions are Ridiculous

in PvP

Posted by: Azrael.4960

Azrael.4960

Thx guys for the nice feedback. Well in my opinion they should really tone down the amount or damage output of condition (there are around 12 conditions O.O)

Each class specialises in a particular set of conditions with others playing supporting roles.

Necros are very strong in bleeds and well supported by fear, torment, poison, vulnerability
Warriors are also very strong in bleeds with good support via vulnerability, cripples and immobilises
Mesmers specialise in confusion and soon torment
Engineers drop vulnerability like no tomorrow but can support with other conditions (I don’t play engi so know little about them)
Guardians are strong on burning but aren’t that good on much else
Rangers are good at bleed supported with poison and cripple
Thieves excel with blind but well backed up with bleed, cripple and immobilise.

On the flip side, warriors, guardians, necros and to an extent rangers all have good condition cleanse abilities which are easy to use while thieves and engis area a little trickier while mesmers are weak in cleanse. So it’s really knowing when not to fight and when to fight. A cleanse heavy warrior will be able to cleanse himself all day. Traited warhorn converts them too boons, shouts can cleanse and heal with Trooper runes, traited heals can strip cc skills. Traited Mending can cleanse a staggering 7 conditions in one cast with quite a short recharge. Builds like these sacrifice a lot of personal DPS for this kind of survivability.

Brian has a point. You’re running in the middle of a field then just decide to jump to a waypoint. There’s nothing connecting your location to a waypoint. It certainly would make more immersive sense if you could draw a trail of waypoints so that every waypoint exists on a line like a train station. You can travel from any given waypoint to another on that “line”. At certain points in the waypoint line there are waypoint hubs which might be a partiucularly larger settlement. These hubs allow you to change to other lines linking to the zone portals. The living story introduced the concept of a waypoint network existing along leylines but from the way we interact with waypoints it’s just like we can go places willy nilly

The Shatterer.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Azrael.4960

how about the “hydra concept” ???

Stage 1 – 1 small champ with several veteran guards applying slow but devastating attacks
Stage 2 – 2 medium champs with a bit few veteran guards + a special mechanic like “keep em apart” or “vulnerable to fire” or something like that. Veteran guards apply large (10-15) stacks of heavy bleeding (equal to 1500 condition damage) and also poison. condi cleanses and heals are adviced.
Stage 3 – 3 large, tough champs, no guards, permanent protection, vulnerable to poison, fire and confusion. They attack very rapidly, but deal moderate to little damage (imagine it like a wet noodle frenzy….)

Stage 2 would require to focus guards unless the zerg/group got enough AOE cleanses. A few healers wouldnt hurt.
Stage 3 would require a healers/water field droppers and a slightly more defensive setup. While not dealing “one shot” damage, it should do around 3-4k against a medium armor target (2400) every 3-5 seconds.

AOE cap of attacks should be around 20. If map blob limit is 120-140 then we divide that by 3 dragon champs, we get 40-53 people pr dragon champ. That means around half the “groups” around each champ gets damaged. Leaving a more organized group/blob to form rotations between ranged, healers and melee to ensure as few as possible goes down.

I’d certainly agree that the variety of attacks should make players spread their builds more. There’s a great deal of scope for an awesome fight, I truly hope that anet has a think about more multilayered fights for certain bosses.

Personally I feel that a Kralkatorrik champion should have an emphasis on the crystals kitten attacks. The fight should build to a climactic encounter with the reveal of the final form. We as adventurers should be shocked an awed by the agent of an elder dragon not just run up to him and stab them in the feet.

Just had another flash of an idea. Shatterer could deploy a crystal shield that blocks the mortar attacks from two sides meaning the third one is where he is vulnerable but at that point a legendary crystal golem spawns at the remaining mortar battery where the shield is weakest. The players have to damage the golem to knock crystal chunks off which they load into the batteries. The batteries then fire those crystals at Shatterer’s shields to break them down. When the shields come down the magical backlash stuns him briefly allowing the players a moment to do more damage to him, a burn phase much like Claw and Tequatl. Failure of this meta event fails the whole event and results in the area being inundated in Branded and explosive crystals.

The Shatterer.

Azrael.4960

It would make the night vastly more interesting if Shattered lived up tp his name and was actually a horde of smaller dragons and the fight featured stages mucdh as the other dragon fights do.

So rather than have just one dragon, there would be 6 ‘shard’ dragons which arrive all over Iron Marches. This would be phase 1. Players have to ‘shatter’ the shard dragons within a certain time frame that is a sub total of the main dragon fight timer. If the shards are defeated they reform into 3 bigger shard dragons. This time they are powerful enough to summon strong mobs of minions to join the fight increasing the intensity. Again the v objective is to defeat the shards but to make things interesting, vigil forces arrive to deploy anti personnel siege which are used to stave off the mobs, a bit like battle of claw island. Other vigil troops arrive to deploy heavy mortars to attack the shard dragons. Although not crucial, the mortars can make the fight a little bit easier until the three shard dragons are defeated. Once defeated the three shard dragons become the final form Shatterer in phase 3. The final form will be in the middle of the fire zones of the three batteries of mortars from phase 2 and will force the players to defend the three batteries which will provide not only offensive fire but defensive fire as well. If players didn’t defend the batteries in phase 2, then they have to defend the vigil forces that deploy them. Of course Shatterer isn’t going to stand there while you do all this.
He’ll have revamped offensive abilities including a type of crystal air burst artillery fire that he launches which sprays the area with condition causing effects. He’ll summon veterans and champions to swarm the batteries. He’ll fire large crystals that land in the ground and cause a huge explosion with knock back and bleeding. Players hit by the crystal are instantly downed. To defend against these the mortars can fire a dispersive shell that reduces the damage and conditions from the crystals. The shell also breaks up the big crystals so they only cause bleeding but not explosive damage or knock back. Think of it as a rain of shrapnel.

At least that’s my idea for an epic Shatterer fight

If one is willing to expend the trait points, warriors have access to the +25% speed booast while carrying melee weapons. Main hand sword also has the rather nice Leap attack for closing quickly, which is more reliable than the Great sword Rush, although main hand swords aren’t quite as good in pve. Off hand warhorn is another option for speed boost.

Rangers have the same speed boost with war horns but also the signet that increases speed movement. You can also use Great sword 3 , Swoop, to cover a lot of ground quickly. For some fun, you could also try ranger sword 2, while facing the other way, combine that with lightning reflexes for some serious back somersaults.

Trouble is that you make a massive assumption in that the people not voicing disagree with the people voicing their opinion. You don’t know this. No one does. So trivializing the issue is rather disrespectful. To be honest it borderlines hypocrisy.

I make no assumptions at all, nor is there a trivialising of any issue. You’ve chosen to extend a simple statement into something completely unrelated. My statement was simple.

Just to clarify,

The event is big requiring a large number of players. Requiring (or at least benefiting greatly from) large scale organization including guild, TS, perhaps even commanders.

And there is a guild that is (unless things have changed since last I heard) completely open to people joining just for the event, no need to rep outside of the event, etc, willing to spend the time, money and effort to provide all of this for anyone with a desire to use.

And those who opt to not partake of that offer (and I am not saying they should or should feel compelled to do so) complain that they might be left out. That they are not willing to either join an existing guild set up specifically for this sort of event nor put the effort into creating their own organization (need not be a guild) to do the event ?

Are in fact presenting those who are making the effort for not only themselves but anyone willing to join in as somehow blameworthy when those not willing to organize fail at an event designed around group organization ?

That sounds much like the gist of it. Or perhaps that “this guild is making a serious run of it, they’re required to let me join it”

What throws me off is, doesn’t the guild in question actually allow anyone who is willing to rep during the event to join ? Aren’t they already willing to, “let me join it ?”

I have no knowledge of this as I am on EU and there is no expectation of repping unless you’re a member of multiple guilds. If a player is a member of a hosting guild then they’re expected not rep more so the hosting guild ncan get the influence but it’s not mandatory

Maybe an adaptation that required map wide coordination but relating to the current mordrem LS could be intrpoduced. For instance, a big mordrem boss attacks a number of waypoints in an zone and players have to meet the threat. It’ll be a bit like triple wurm without the mechanics of the wurm fight. For example, in frostgorge sound mordrem tentacles attack a wp, if that is defeated then two other wps are attacked, if that succeeds then three different wps are attacked. If that attack is repelled then all six are attacked at once. Failure of the event will result in between 1-3 wps being put out of commission temporarily. While the attack is underway no was can be used as the asura engineers shut down the wp network to prevent the spread. This would prevent zergs moving from one wp to another. The event also has to be completed within a timeframe to prevent the wps from being disabled

This isn’t about the “power” of one guild. This is about the inability, perhaps even incompetence, of other players to actually do the same level of organisation as the guilds who make the attempt.

As an EU player I’ve been on numerous runs with the guilds who organise runs there. If people are too lazy to exert the effort to learn the ropes then the fault lies not on the guilds but the players. Why shouldn’t guilds organise for their members as a priority? That’s the point of being in a good guild, you get to do fun stuff together. If there’s room for non members who are willing to play by your standards then the more the merrier, however they should not arrive expecting to be automatically included.
