A pure sinister build or a hybrid sinister with some rabid trinkets If you’re worried about survivability. Armour with aristocrat runes Or krait runes but aristocrat are the better option.
you could go 6/6/0/0/2 or 6/6/0/2/0 or 4/6/0/0/4 in traits. The critical traits are increased bleed duration, increased sceptre condition duration, reduced corruption skill recharge. Good traits are might on life blast (synergy with aristocrat runes), mark of evasion (more aoe bleeds on dodge), death shroud reduced usage rate (longer death shroud means more might self generated), dhuumfire for more condition damage.
sceptre/dagger as main set using bursting, malice, geomancer, earth sigils. Weapon stats could be givers, sinister, rabid
Secondary set could be staff (sinister, rabid, givers) with corruption, geomancer, bursting or malice sigils for a purely condition damage focused build or dagger/warhorn (zerk, assassin), axe/focus (zerk, assassin) with air, fire, battle, earth, energy, torment, or whatever takes your fancy tbh. Sone ppl would tweak it to maximise the condition damage while some, like me would go for a somewhat rough balance between condition and direct damage.
This list isn’t exhaustive as there are many weapon + sigil combinations that could work.
Foods are any that have increased condition duration. Best consumable is toxic focusing crystal.
Skills to use are signet of spite, blood is power, epidemic. This combination is my favourite. Open with sceptre auto attack, sceptre 2 for bleed and cripple, dagger off hand 5 for more bleed, signet of spite, then BiP. Transfer bleeding to target with dagger off hand #4 then follow with epidemic for a condition bomb. Depending on your setup, you should be able to do 120-160 dmg per bleed tick, plus dmg boost from foods. if your secondary set is dagger war horn you could switch to it, use warhorn #5 for aoe cripple then dive in with dagger auto attack to cut them down faster or go into death shroud and life blast for might or use life transfer and tainted shackles. If axe focus, then build up life force switch to death shroud and life blast for might.
The way to approach a GS/Longbow or a Axe+Mace/Longbow warrior is not to think of one as main and the other as a support but rather that you’re switching between the two to either reposition yourself or to do something with the abilities.
For instance. You’re smashing your way in melee but you’ve take a few hits. So you switch to your longbow and drop the immobiliser on your target. Reposition yourself to let healing signet get you back up a bit. Pop off the burst skill to get yourself a fire field and drop longbow #3 to blast it for some might. you should be able to do all this within the cool down time frame of weapon swap. Switch back to your melee weapon and dive back into the fight.
Another example might be if you are running both banners of discipline and strength. You start by using your melee set to build up enough adrenalin to use the longbow burst skill then use longbow #3 and your banners to triple blast the fire field. Banner summons count as blasts. Then you pick up a banner and use skill 5 for another Blast, giving you 4 blasts off the fire field. This assumes of course you don’t have am Ele in the party who knows how to drop 25 stacks of might. In a pinch you could provide that sort of might stacking support.
In some fractals pug groups and we draw the Mai Trin fight, I’ve had to fall back on using an old armour set which runs trooper runes and switch around my traits so that I gain cleanses when using a warhorn as well as on shouts. In really desperately bad pugs I’ve even traited to get shout heals (yeh that much badness).
Twice as many armor and weapon skins that are currently in the game to be added to the HoT expansion? Did you even think this out before you posted?
I looked in the wardrobe. There are 1325 pieces of armor in it for the light, medium and heavy armor weights. Doubling that is 2650 new pieces of armor. The weapons minus the underwater weapons is 1676. Doubling that is 3352 unique weapon skins to be added.
Assuming ANet did such a thing, just how much do you think that would add to the cost of the expansion and the time it takes to make over 6000 new skins?
You ever heard that saying?
“Gimme gimme gimme”
60 fps as standard on all high when roaming alone.
30fps during big events like tequatl on all high.
one problem I would see is, lore wise, how would a more bipedal, read humanoid, body structure be of an advantage in battle. Charr as they are now can run on all fours making them very agile. They can still fight while upright giving them the advantage of ebig able to move rapidly into combat. in comparison, a hominid strucactually nowhere near as strong.
If charr got hominid skeletal structures they would be a liability in battle since they wouldn’t be able to keep up with the front liners.
Of course in game mechanics they’re made more or less equal otherwise everyone would play charr for the speed advantage.
The upright charr would basically be a human frame with fur horns and claws. There wouldn’t be anything actually interesting about them.
Remember Pyre!
People want to be kept in a constant state of excitement and it’s not reasonable.
It’s also not mentally healthy.
What I got out of the OP: “Anet you absolutely have to give me the expansion right now cos I’m totally your biggest fan ever, in the world, in the universe. And because my declaration of fandom is so sincere I totally deserve, nay I’m entitled to getting the expansion now”
throw enough and maybe mordremoth will just fall over
Looks like the bug fixes didn’t include the challenge motes
Personally, I get faintly amused by all the people who get all self righteous about this or that.
Life is part tragedy, part comedy. If we spent all our time thinking about it and looking for reflections of tragedies in everything people did, it would be a seriously sad world.
We shouldn’t build buildings because they are irreverent to people who have jumped off them.
We shouldn’t have cars because of all those people who get hit by them
We shouldn’t have knives because of all those people who have been killed by them
We shouldn’t have ropes because of all those people who’ve hung themselves.
We shouldn’t have fun because of all those people who *aren’t having fun*
Seriously, all this self righteous chest thumping is ridiculous. We should remember the dead but they also lived and had fun, why can’t we just stick with that rather than go on and on about how they died.
On the flip side of it, you could think of it as saying
“While you’re having fun, please remember there are those who have recently tragically lost their lives.”
It’s all about perspective
Jeebus, gonna have to rethink my wvw roamer
Maybe I’m ignorant but few people used crafting to actually craft the armor they want to use. It’s way more efficient to buy it. If your a new player who doesn’t care about being efficient, then you also don’t really care if it costs you more to craft it either.
That doesn’t include Ascended but that’s a SERIOUS commitment that any player in this game undertakes, so it’s not about being new. I doubt the OP has actually put much thinking about the rant.
I’d have to agree. Only players who want to rush their crafting would be hit financially. I’d dare say that the vast majority of veteran players would have crafted from accumulated bank stores. I certainly did. Excluding my legendary crafting and ascended crafting, and excluding the requisite materials that can only be bought from the vendors, I think I spent a grand total of 15g on materials to get all of the disciplines to 400. Bear in mind, I did this before the introduction of dungeon gold so there was no daily dungeon farming to rake in that gold.
Going up to 500 on weaponsmith, armorsmith, leatherworker, huntsman and artificer took an extra 20g or so.
If a player is patient it’s very cheap to craft up. Convenience comes at a cost after all
Edit: The OP’s point about time gated materials that are only available in the home instance is relevant though
Edit 2: Forgot about the laurel vendor.

I can’t even comprehend this.
You’re not the only one.
So, we have a bank, but OP wants another bank?
What are the chances that server capacity will be increased with the release of the expansion? My wife and I are coming back to play but our accounts are on two different server(one EU and one US) so we can’t really play together. I’m on blackgate and want to stay there but want to get my wife over to that server.
So do you think they will up the server limits?
Depends if you’re both into WvW. If you’re not she can transfer into any NA server and you’ll be able to play together
heh, I made a post about this and even Gaile Grey agreed with me.

I’m not against rezzing dead players, I’ve done so many times in Silverwastes and since I’m often tagged up, ppl will come over to help rez. But I won’t risk ressing someone until we’ve cleared a breathing space. A good commander doesn’t put a lot of troops at risk just to rescue one, particularly if there are safer ways to do it. Although, I have on many occasions jumped on someone to res them while under attack if I’m at full HP and figure I can soak the hits long enough to res. Helpful when I’m on my necro and can res in death shroud.
In Tequatl, there’s usually very little breathing room to res the dead during the DPS phase. I’ve seen whole zergs go down because 5 ppl went to res 1 dead, then when they went down another 10 ppl went down trying to res them and it snow balled from there.
The argument for DPS loss is always cogent. While in combat, it takes at least kitten , if not more, to res a defeated player. Lets assume an averaged DPS of 5000. If it takes that player less than 30s to WP and come back to the fight 150,000 damage points that’s been missed from the fight. If 5 players go to rez the player and, factoring in the reduced time for more players ressing, you’d still be looking at about 30s of res time. That’s 750,000 points of damage that has been missed from the fight. This value is an average so depending on the builds of the various characters, it could be significantly higher or lower.
In high activity events, like Teq or Triple Threat, ressing the defeated has to take lower priority. In wider ranging meta events like SW or Orr, there is more breathing space to do so.
3) was a bug, doubt they’d want to intentionally reintroduce a bug
I only use it for combining rare sigils and runes that I salvage out of the rares in the vain hope of getting good exotic runes and sigils. Overall, I’m probably a bit ahead considering the lovely runes I’ve gotten out of it. Back when Divinity runes were a thing, I got 2 in a couple of days which was a nice 20g profit. I’ve been occasionally lucky in getting sigils and runes that are at the peak of their price. Melandru’s when they were going for 13g, Force when they were 5g, etc. Given that rares sell on the TP for between 3 and 6 silver, it’s actually pretty profitable.
I also use it for fixed recipes like mystic salvage kit creation, the occasional t5 – t6 mat promotion, which I’ll have to get into again with the new precursor system coming up, the occasional high end exotic skin.
Hmm, I might get start stocking up mystic clovers.
I call it the sleepy matrix bug. I discovered another player doing this once and couldn’t resist trying for myself.
I actually had to cover my mouth in case my ROFL was heard in the office
The problem I perceive would be how siege would be used to track aerial targets. Unless you actively dodge, when you jump you’re tracked like a ground target. Anet would have to come up with away for AOE’s to work. Although AC’s fire arrows and the animation tells you that the arrows are falling from the sky, they’re not counted as a projectile attack so if you’re above the arrow storm, you’re not going to be hit by them. Giving the arrows and aerial target box would take considerable resources, both in terms of man hours to develop it and server processor power to compute it.
Having moved to Australia from EU where I used to live, I accept the fact that I will have fairly high pings. 3-400 being about standard, but I’ve spiked 6000ms with it hovering around 700ms on a nearly unpopulated Borderlands (Gandara) map. I’m not even going to touch EBG.
I go back to PVE and it hovers around 400ms pretty stably. Although I’ve never been a hardcore WVWer, I do like to go in and play every now and then but having that level of ping on a map with barely 50 ppl in it is pretty much unacceptable.
I’d recommend thinking about moving to a NA server to a better connection
My game’s been spiking hard from 250 ping to over 1100 ping in large zerg fights. Spikes up to 350-400 even with 10v10 fights. It’s pretty ridiculous right now
I had given some thought to that, especially now that guilds can be cross server it doesn’t really matter
I’d have to see if i can find it, but my warrior died in COE and when he was ressed he was stuck in this pretzel like pose. I could even make him dance and his arms were twisted up. Looked mighty uncomfortable.
I’ve seen Deer trying to walk up trees.
It would definitely be a useful thing. Sometimes guilds go out and do missions or bounties and when they pop their tags, people come running to see what there is thus scaling up the event. This can cause a lot of problems if the randoms don’t know what to do. Examples: Tarban who will drop 25 stacks of confusion on players, 2-Mult with his barrage of lightning, Bwikki with her damage immunity when players are chilled.
Not to mention trolls who will seek to derail a guild’s event
Any commander worth their salt would ensure that their group would engage all of the shrines at once, or as near to at once as possible, and take them down before making the final assault. I’d say this would make for more tactical play than just zergburgers

Sent a bug report last night in game about this.
Bear in mind there are some bugs preventing progression in the achievements. One of them I came across last night was in the Meeting the Asura instance where the challenge mote refused to spawn. It’s been a bug since last December
This sounds to be something that is prevalent on the NA servers. The European servers are typically pretty polite, bar the occasional “f’n noob!” “noob ranger!” sort of comment. That in part says, to me, this is a cultural thing. With the wide variety of languages spoken by Europeans it’s hard to tell where a particular player is from and for some reason that breeds a certain amount of etiquette. On the NA servers, virtually everyone will be from a native english speaking background so the pool of nastiness is basically the same whether the players are from NA, OCX or SEA.
This shouldn’t be tolerated and those responsible should be blocked and reported as par for the course
All I can say is Lich Form is OP in this fight. In full zerk gear, you can take him 50% in the first phase and the remaining 50% in a second phase.
I was just doing the achievements and noticed the same thing. Glad to know that I’m not the only one that has this problem. Will submit a bug report in a bit
Edit: Posted a bug report

not. sure. if….
He asked about runes of air, not sigils. And I think vampirism is garbage since the siphon effect is pretty minimal and doesn’t work if it triggers in deathshroud.
I could see runes of air being decent since most fights aren’t very long as a power necro, and it should be able to add to your downed damage burst. Also that kitten Rock Dog keeping you in combat forever.
rock dog?
Superior Rune of the Air
(1): +25 Ferocity
(2): +10% Swiftness Duration
(3): +50 Ferocity
(4): When you use a heal skill you gain swiftness for 5 seconds. (Cooldown: 10s)
(5): +100 Ferocity
(6): +20% swiftness duration; 50% chance when struck to hit the foe with a lightning strike. (Cooldown: 20s)
OP in that thread is 150% correct no argument…
Edit: I would actually go further on the Marks and Well changes.
They shouldn’t trigger right away. Instead, they should blink red for about a 3-5 second delay and then activate. Just to give everyone enough warning that they’re being casted and enough time to get out of the way.
3-5 seconds? that makes them pretty much useless. 3/4s to maybe 1s, that’s a reasonable timeframe for a dodge. Anyone taking longer than 1s to trigger their dodge is 1) tired, 2) half asleep or 3) drunk. Alternatively, a brief tell like firestorm or meteor shower before it arrives but nothing as ridiculous as the tells and cast time from necro sceptre 2 or off hand dagger 5
Whoosh. :S
Yep, it went straight over my head >.< I was posting at work after all O_o
Non-tradable precursors and legendaries? Yuck.
One of the few upsides of the current system is that precursors and legendaries can be bought with the game’s main currency. Tossing that out the window and adding extra gathering/quests to the process? Sounds like more work for a lesser reward.
And what about people who get RNG precursors and can’t trade them? Sounds like they’re just SOL.
That’s part of the problem. Their extreme rarity and the small percentage of players who know how to play the TP means that for the vast majority of players Precursors and Legendary weapons are completely out of reach. It also showed new players that to get the best weapons in the game, all you had to do was farm gold, but once you think you’d gotten enough gold, the price goes up because of speculators and TP players.
Bringing in non tradeable precursors and legendary’s means it’s a level playing field. If you want a legendary there is now a way to do it that isn’t a constantly moving goal post.
Anet has said that the existing precursors will still be tradeable and will continue to drop from the world so there will still be a market there, but the new system means that all players can at least play the game with a legendary weapon in mind and knowing that is attainable. As opposed to some pipe dream, which they hope to fulfill by having a precursor drop. Some people have been lucky, I’ve had 2 precursors drop, my guildie has had 7, most other people can only rely on the TP.
i just want to play melee in every game mode and not to be FORCED into ranged weapons……… if i want to play ranged i would play a Ranger ele mes engi
not warriors guards etc.
this is REALY annoying in my opinion. melees in this game aren’t realy melee but ranged is ranged.
REVENANT INC.
There’s nothing really forcing you to play ranged, except repeated defeats. If you’re happy to do that, then by all means use melee only. Even back in GW1, all melee players used a bow to pull aggro.
The new precursors and legendaries will not be tradeable, but it isn’t clear whether you can get them from drops or the Forge.
The old ones will still be obtainable from drops, forge and TP but are also obtainable from the new collections system. They will also be tradeable. So expect TP prices to start tumbling as more and more appear.
Does the majority of a freedom-loving and heroic race getting turned into soul-gnawed shocktroopers for the greatest genocidal menace of our age not fall somewhere pretty far down the dark spectrum? Too big? Not personal enough? I thought the prospect of finding a beloved sibling hanging broken and mangled like some kinda of devilish lamppost in the aftermath of a battle you thought you’d won to be just a bit of a downer…
Yeh, but part of that is the nature of war.
My feeling about “dark” is about the spiral into Nightmare. A more “personal” darkness if you will.
The collection based system of obtaining a precursor is parallel to the existing system of RNG, MF and TP. It doesn’t replace it. This means that players who don’t want to, or can’t afford to, forge one can collect one. But players who want 2 for the achievement for owning 2 legendaries can still achieve that.
Both focus and warhorn were incredibly easy. Necro warhorn has a pulsing AoE and Ele in fire attunement was pretty good for focus with the pulsing fire field it has.
To make things easier a friend and I made an arrangement to each have a character at ‘Stealing Light’, trading back and forth to avoid having to get multiple characters up to get weapon master done. This also has the added benefit of the instance owner being able to keep the NPC’s out of combat (Although they’re not a big hindrance if they do get in combat)
Was going to say the same thing. I’ll have to check what I have but with the locust swarm and dagger attacks, getting the achievement is pretty easy. I’ve also gone sceptre on my necro with her condition build so that’s racking up kills in a real hurry particularly in Silverwastes. I’m going to build a condition range so I can use torch XD
Shield, I just can’t bring myself to do T.T
The point of a ranged weapon in open world is for ppl to 11111111111111111 bosses from safety.
The north side near where Fire Elemental spawns usually has a few.
Anyone know if previously unlocked items such as the Amberite insects will automatically unlocked or will we have to do all the collections again.
Pretty much things that we have already unlock will they carry over?
Pretty sure it will be retrospective. Somewhat like the when the wardrobe first appeared.
Depends on how you define evil. Caithe killed Wynn, at hear request, to prevent the knowledge of Mordremoth falling into Faolain’s hands. By most people’s standards, that act was for the greater good as it prevented more Sylvari from falling into Nightmare. By modern standards, the fact that Caithe bears a great deal of pain for that act, but is forgiven by the Pale Tree, would normally have her labelled as “good”. If she had done the same act, but her intention was just to keep it out of Faolain’s hands and to make use of it herself, that would have her labelled as evil.
Faolain is ruthless but only evil in a modern sense. One could classify her as a sociopath or maybe even a psychopath. She holds no remorse for what she does and will ruthlessly do whatever it takes to do it.

There actually is. Portals to other maps will always be near a waypoint and from that waypoint, on the mini- or world map, you will usually see a path leading from that waypoint into the boundary between the two maps.
For example, if you go to the interactive map of Caledon Forest, in the north east corner of the map is Kraitbane Haven. Leading from that is a path. That path will lead to a portal to Kessex Hills. Similarly at the very south of the map is Astorea Waypoint. There is a path next to it that leads to the Grove
(edited by Azrael.4960)
Well, there are the Sylvari that have been turned. Presumably they’ll be engaging in various atrocities in their service to the Dragon. The Nightmare Court already engages in that sort of thing so this will probably be their avenue to torture even more of the Dream Sylvari
^So the same info as the english post, just about.
I only just realised there was a new blog post about it XD
This is collectionception. 3 collections to make 1 precursor seems like overdoing it, just make 1 collection that requires various stuff from all 3, why would we need to go from collection to collection like we already go from bag through bag?
Because each collection rewards a weapon skin
no no no, the scrolls and tomes are actually tinder for you to start a fire to level up Master Chef
Posting a translation of the article here (I read and speak Chinese after all)
A Legendary weapon is every GW2 PVE players ultimate goal, it has a unique and beautiful appearance, and has often been the centre of attention. The journey towards crafting a legendary is long and hard. You not only have to get the precursor but then you have to gather all the materials. However, obtaining the precursor is very testing and has often left players frustrated (loose translation here).
In the GW2 trailer, a new method to acquire precursors was presented, the new map reward system (direct translation) will guide you to the crafting materials, the journey to a precursor will also embark you on the journey to a legendary weapon. We will explain in detail to everyone the new method of obtaining a precursor.
As we previously presented, the new Content Mastery system will enable players to unlock many different abilities, one example is Legendary Mastery. By unlocking Legendary Mastery, players can level the Legendary Crafting ability to learn how to craft all of the existing precursors, as well as all the new precursors presented in the trailer. Firstly, you need to visit the Legendary Merchant to select the Precursor you want, once selected the journey to obtain that precursor is unlocked. After this, you just have to follow the directions of the Legendary content system to be rewarded with the precursor.
Normally, players must complete 3 collections to obtain a precursor, to do this, players must roam across the world and complete the missions associated with that legendary. We will use the Legendary weapon Moot as an example, a moot is how Norn celebrate their great deeds in the great hall, it is for this reason that we named this Hammer. Obtaining the first collection involved hunting. You must seek out the fiercest beasts of Tyria and trophies as proof of your strength. Upon completing this collection, you will receive a Recipe which will allow you to craft a non tradeable weapon, this weapon will have a similar skin as an existing precursor but will have slightly lower stats. By upgrading or modifying it a bit it will be closer to your goal. This leads us to the second step.
Completing the second collection requires some investigation, inquiry and study of the crafting disciplines. You must perform some exchanges to obtain the information, find and convince masters to give you the guidance you seek as well as prove your crafting ability. At the end, you will obtain the precursor’s second appearance. Completion of this collection will reward you with another recipe for a new weapon, the appearance of which will match an existing precursor.
The journey to complete the final collection returns us to the theme of a legendary weapon. A moot is the Norn celebration’s centre piece, as such you will have to attend festivities to match the atmosphere, including dancing with leaders of the world, lighting fireworks for the spirits of the wild, as well as discovering the delicious wines of Tyria. The final recipe received will allow you to craft the true Precursor. This weapon can be traded. The appearance will be closer to the final Legendary, but it will be a mere shadow compared to the finished weapon. Unlocking the precursor skin will also unlock the skin for the two precursors to the precursor. So if you are fortunate enough to discover a precursor while exploring Tyria, you will not miss out on the two pre-precursor skins.
However, this method for obtaining a precursor is account bound, that is to say, each precursor can only be obtained once through the above method. The existing ways to obtain a precursor will be unchanged, so if you want to have more than one of the same precursor, you will have to do it that way (forging, RNG, TP). Once you have the precursor, you can craft the legendary. Collecting materials, Mystic forging for the Gifts and finally crafting your legendary weapon will be a long journey.
Apart from this, players are very excited about the new legendary weapons talked about in the trailer, we will continue to reveal information about them as it comes. The ways of crafting the new legendary weapons will be very similar to the existing ones, but the process will be modified to improve everyone’s experience. The new Legendary weapons and precursors will not be tradeable. As soon as we have news we will bring it to everyone, thanks for reading!
I’ve had to take some liberties in a few places to Anglicise it. Some of the phraseology and grammatical structure in Chinese can be a bit strange and abstract
