I defend Hills in WvW with my ranger waiting for the opportunity to Point Blank Shot people off the cliffs (Did that to a frenchie last night. To add insult to injury, I shot him again with the auto attack before they fell to their doom.) I REGRET NOTHING

I play a PVE necro build in WVW and my reflexes are shot. I blame the other player for being a kitten. I REGRET NOTHING

I intend to buy a stack of salt and if someone QQ’s in game, send them some salt in place of tears.

When PUGs call for a stack, I always stand away from the stack and draw the aggro. Still not been kicked for doing so and I REGRET NOTHING.

When people tag Eternity/Sunrise/Twilight in game chat, I always tell them off about how horrible they are and never to bring them to big events even if it means descending into a prolonged argument about Legendary weapons. I REGRET NOTHING.

PvE Condition Necromancer Build?

Sinister is your best bet for a pure condition build for PvE. You get the extra power which lets you turtle in DS when you really need to as well as lets you benefit more from effects allies give. It also lets you destroy objects quicker.

That isn’t to say rabid is a bad choice. its still a excellent choice for a condi necromancer. The extra toughness can help allot with people who want to run condi but are not as comfortable with the profession.

Rampagers with a sinister/carrion mix for a hybrid set looks good as well if you want to go that way. But i personally haven’t tried it so my opinion on that is limited.

For Runes. I’d go with rune of the krait, Aristocrat, nightmare, torment or perplexity depending on how you want to run. Although those are just suggestions you can pick whatever you like of course, but that’s my advice. Krait is the easiest and cheapest to get and its a superb choice considering necromancers primary source of damage is bleed.

Aristocrat has become a popular one given how easy it is to grant yourself might stacks with traits. e.g Might on Life blast or signet use.

PvE Condition Necromancer Build?

Or do the events and get Sinister armour recipe books to drop. I’ve had enough drops to make a light and a medium set. More are coming for a heavy set, might work for a Revenant.

Must say though, a Sinister necro is very exciting to play in WvW because the margin for error is very low XD

Anyone try to make a more optimised Sinister build for WvW?

Ranger or Necro(PVE,WvW)

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Azrael.4960

Azrael.4960

Problem with Necros is the sore lack of mobility. If you get stuck in a fight in WvW you are not getting out. A ranger has disengages that allow them to get away in a real hurry. A necro is an all or nothing proposition.

Necro condition damage is pretty powerful. Corrupt Boon is one of the most important skills you have. See a player with a stack of boons? No problem, here have some conditions. Group players often don’t pack condition removal so facing them becomes an endurance fight. Condition cleanse and transfer is a Necro’s strength. The trouble I face when playing my necro in wvw is my ping is so high and I’m facing players who are playing during the day time, while I’m playing at night XD

Rangers have better sustained combat ability compared to a Necro. Ranger greatsword is packed with useful abilities: Built in Evade, Gap closer or disengage, block, stun, and a big hitter. I’m yet to really try a condition ranger in WvW as I haven’t made the gear yet so I’ll defer to players who know more about those.

Still can somewhat manage in wvw although I go down a lot more than I would otherwise. It’s one of the main reasons I don’t sPVP. Half a second differences makes it a bit too tricky to fight players. Tequatl fight - revive others or not?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Azrael.4960

Azrael.4960

So, what is the best strategy or tactics for this Boss?

I have commanded quite a lot of Tequatl runs and have yet to fail. I have to give credit to the commanders that I used to run with for their teachings.

There are 4 locations typically used for this event. Clockwise from Sparkfly Fen waypoint

1. East Turret
2. “Ranged” group – Typically for players with weapons of range 1200 and higher (Necros, Mesmers, Rangers)
3. “Melee” group – typically for players with weapons of range up to 900 (Warriors, Guardians and Thieves)
4. West Turrets

Groups 2 and 3 don’t actually have a restrictive composition, but that’s how most people would refer to them. These days there’ll be just a mass of random classes. The important thing is for them to be up and keeping the DPS on Teq.

There are two phases in the fight, if all goes smoothly. There’s the starting “DPS” phase, where players just shoot Tequatl. Turret operators must use turret skill 2 to remove the Hardened Scales buff. They also need to look out for big red AOEs that appear at the ranged and melee groups and fire cleansing shots onto them. They should also watch for the same AOE’s under each other’s turrets and cleanse those too. When those skills are on cool down, they use skill 1 to shoot Teq.

Turret defense teams have 2 spawn zones to watch for. At East turrets, there is a spawn zone in the shipwreck east of the turrets and another behind the turrets near the way point. At West turrets, there is a shipwreck west of the turrets and also behind the turrets. The swamp spawns come first then the ones behind. These need to be cleared quickly else they’ll overwhelm the defenders with champions and elites.
East turrets can have a hard time if Teq fears the ranged group into the spawn zone as they can upscale the spawns into champs and elites. If champs spawn, a few players need to hold the champ off while other players clear the other lower mobs.

Depending on how well the burn phase is going, there may be as many as 3 spawn rotations. If it’s going badly, you might even see 5 spawn rotations.

Ranged and Melee groups shoot Tequatl and also his fingers when they appear. Guardians and Mesmers need to watch for big projectiles that Teq fires and pop shields or reflects.

When his HP drops 25%, Teq will fly away and everyone needs to get to a laser battery and the laser itself. This is “Laser phase” and consists of 4 events

1. East Turret defenders go to East Battery – Defenders need to stop the plague carriers from reaching the battery. Knock backs, immobilises and cripples are a must here.
2. Melee group goes to the Laser – Defenders must keep the mobs off the laser particularly a Champion Krait Hypnoss as it can do a lot of damage to it.
3. Ranged group goes to West battery – Nothing special, just kill the mobs and fingers
4. West Turret defenders go to North Battery. – Defenders must stomp the grub holes to stop veteran grubs spawning. They’re not tough but can cause extra Risen mobs to spawn if unchecked.

When the timer drops to 20 seconds, all players return to the beach (except turret operators who return to their turrets) where Teq lands, this is “Burn Phase”. The laser fires and he falls. Warriors should drop banners of strength, Elementalists drop fire fields and everyone blasts for might. If there is sufficient DPS, the next Laser phase happens. If not, everyone has to return to their positions and drop Teq to the next 25% HP marker. Laser phases happen whenever Teq’s HP drops by 25% so there are 3 in all.

If all goes well, the event should follow this sequence:
[Initial DPS phase → Laser phase → burn phase → Laser phase → burn phase → Laser phase → Final burn phase.

If player damage is low you might see extra DPS phases between a burn and laser phase:
Initial DPS phase → Laser phase → Burn phase → DPS Phase → Laser phase…

- Mordrem wolves:

- Mordrem charging teragriff:

- Mordrem teragriff torpedo:

To deal with wolves, wait for their attack then dodge into them so that puts them with their backs facing you while you can lob attacks at them at your leisure. They take a while to reset themselves so cripples and chill give you plenty of time to finish them off.

Charging teragriffs need only a cripple for them to knock themselves down. Mesmer’s knock back wave should be saved for this. Dodge jump is the best defensive trick to use here. I’ve bound dodge to my mouse and avoid most of their charges with this.

Torpedos are that hard. Their range is limited so switch to mesmer GS and just blaze them down with AA from long range

Meh, I’ve engaged three or more teragriffs with my necro without too much problem. The ones with the exploding vine attacks have 1 weakness and that is they can’t coil the vines backwards or up slopes. So fighting them is about placement. When they attack the forts, they’re easy prey because there is always an elevated position to attack them from. In the open, they’re even easier. The vines have about 600 range, so basically you just draw the attacks out then dodge away.

The charging ones are easily dealt with as well. As soon as they spawn drop an AOE cripple on them and watch them fall all over themselves. Dodge jumping is your best friend there.

The only times I’ve ever gone down to one is when I was ressing someone or not paying attention.

All of the critters in SW have weaknesses, some of those are hidden in their strongest attacks. Once you know them, you can engage a pretty big mob of them without too much problem. Condition bombing is one of the best ways to fight them.

team of 3 leveling up in PVE, What can we do?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Azrael.4960

Azrael.4960

Fractals are doable even though you’re not lvl 80, but it will be very challenging., if not impossible without lvl 80s to help. I did a guild run with a member running a lvl 60 something and that required the rest of us to carry him.

There are some aids to leveling. All foods and consumables grant a +10% experience buff. You can buy very cheap foods off the TP for a few dozen coppers each. Or have one of you become a Chef and make the low end foods. Sharpening stones, from Weaponsmiths, Maintenance oils from Huntsmen, Tuning crystals from Artificers all grant XP boosts.

Look out for Guild buff banners that people like to pepper about.

Kill creatures that are not hostile to you. Most people ignore them but one of this things about GW2 that not a lot of newer players know is that the longer a creature is alive in game the more experience that is awarded for killing it. You may notice that some creatures award bonus XP. Non hostile creatures that have been alive for a long time can award twice maybe even triple the base XP as a bonus.

Harvest everything you come across. Plants, trees, ores. That all grants XP.

If you want to be able to plan a play session, select a map and do full exploration of it together. Do every event you come across but don’t plan on certain events, just run through the map and do everything. You should gain about 10 levels if you’re doing a level 30-40 map for the first time.

Stability changes - general

in WvW

Posted by: Azrael.4960

Azrael.4960

I think this change may get me to come back to WVW. I got seriously tired of the blobfests that happened all the time.

TS during any fight
“Stack, Stack,Stack,Stack,Stack,Stack,Stack,”
“Might, Might, Might, Might, Might, Might, "
“Blast, Blast, Blast, Blast, Blast, Blast, Blast”
“On me, here, On me, here, On me, here, On me, here, On me, here, On me, here, "
“Go round, go round”

The change in stab basically forces players away from the “one pixel” standard. Not sure how many EU players are here, but the blob fights were brutal.
Now, I envisage players fighting along a much broader front to minimise the boon strips.

The new style of fighting will be lots of skirmishers with necros and engis in the front trying to draw the main group into engaging by stripping their boons and peppering them with conditions. If you don’t engage, the enemy skirmishers and main group will attack with their boons up while your forces will be weakened.

The new fighting style isn’t going to be about breaking a blob, but breaking a line

You seem to completely misunderstand the situation.

Blobbing will still happen. Only difference is the last part where people no longer say, “Go round, go round.” Everything else will still happen, just at range.

Boon Strips are not the issue. The issue is the large amount of CC all classes are capable of dishing out. When you are blob vs blob, there’s enough of them going on that you will use any and all stacks of stability you could possibly have in seconds leaving you entirely CC’d. Stability is also one of the last things stripped, so again boon strip isn’t the thing.

No one knows what the new meta will be. However as it stands ranged stand-off is pretty terrible. It’s the same blob taste only without the old blob finish. Now two sides just stand there neither capable of doing enough ranged damage to finish the other until one side gets bored and pulls off. Not seeing how that’s better.

As you say, players haven’t established a new way to fight yet. The mexican stand off is a stop gap until the commanders get to grips with it (probably after some tweaking by anet). Before the blobbing we consider the typical way of fighting, people just fought in disorganised mobs attacking things willy nilly until the zerg came about.

I figure it’ll be a couple weeks before something new happens

might be a subtle way of getting wvw away from huge zergvzerg battles

That’s still how it’s going to be. Small groups are just going to get stunlocked if they encounter a zerg. So the only way to deal with zergs is a bigger zerg.

Or coordinate multiple smaller groups to hit the same big zerg from multiple sides. With the change in stability, multiple small groups are going to survive stab stripping better than one big group.

This is the one I’ve been using particularly for Silverwastes. There was another thread somewhere on the forum where someone suggested Aristocrat runes. While in Death shroud you can pop a quite large number of might stacks for yourself which gives you quite a lot of extra condition damage. The Aristocrat runes keep those stacks humming along very nicely.

You’ll note a fair bit of rabid gear in the build and that’s largely a holdover from when my necro was in full Rabid. The torment sigil in the warhorn was a random experiment I was running, I’ll probably be replacing that at some point.

To throw my hat into the ring, I too quite enjoy the wastes. It’s probably the only place that actually makes a condition user worthwhile given the toughness of some of the mobs. I usually pop my pip for 1-3 runs of the breach and vinewrath. There’s a certain amount of satisfaction herding players towards a common goal.

That being said, to ensure I don’t lose my interest in the zone, I tend not to spend a great deal of time there. There’s so much more to do in other parts of the game that each night that I’m on, I’ll go do other things. Some people have daily rotations of things to do like all fractal bands, dungeon tours, wvw, pvp etc. But I prefer a mishmash of things. It keeps the game fresh, relatively speaking.

Once one does one or two things end on end for days then weeks, it loses its luster and eventually that feel is applied across the whole game. A lot of people who farm SW will ultimately hit that point.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

You seriously need to try Necro if you think they are mobile.

Death Shroud shadow step projectile is so slow it’s basically in slow motion.
Locust swarm requires miles of open field to be useful because of the built in attack, you nick something and bam you’re in combat.
Signet of the locust is OK as long as you don’t proc it and make sure to swap it out before combat.

This change is putting it on the same footing as Infiltrator’s strike (thief sword 2 skill which shadow steps) and Steal. Without a target, or if the target is out of range, the shadow step doesn’t work.

i.e, roughly 10% of the same cost as buying three individually. I’m pretty sure some people would totally go for that.

Dodging is your best friend. Also observe the enemies attack cycles. Some have very obvious telegraphs, big red circles or bars that appear at their feet.

At lvl 10-11, with gear for that level, engaging more than 2 enemies at once can be pretty tough since you won’t have the right stats and traits. SO your best bet is to engage 1 on 1.

Knowing which weapon skill set to use comes with experience. Many players will continue to experiment with weapon combinations and stats even at level 80

  • Whenever I happen to be in Obsidian sanctum with my ranger or necro, I always fear or point blank shot them off things, not to kill them, which is a bonus, but to make them go back. (However, this did lead to an hour of fun just dueling a bunch of very accommodating Deso players, including a guildie who pasted the floor with my poor necro T.T)
  • When I do the heart where I have to capture the dolyak calves, I go out of my way to avoid fighting the Dolyak mothers. If I get their aggro, I either run away to break aggro or let them kill me. I can’t abide killing dolyak mothers while I’m trying to steal their calves.
  • I sometimes troll people who are about to jump in a puzzle by firing off a speed boost just as they do the running jump.

This sounds like the heart where you have to also look for lost moas in the shrubbery (I don’t even want to go into the innuendo behind looking for birds in the bushes). If it is that one, then there is a cave nearby where you can go in a ways and take out some bandits.

Necros and Warrs are probably the two professions best suited to using Rabid. Rabid as Sagramor said is good in wvw because good damage mitigation is a must with all the blob fighting.

Mixing it either with Dire/Carrion for a tanky roaming condition build or mix with Sinister for a more offensive style of condition character.
