I been playing on my zerk thief again and you probably can’t go much more “fragile” than one of them. But because of the skills I use in combat, particularly Sword pistol, you can get close to face tanking most enemies through smart use of pistol 4 which stuns enemies, pistol 5 that you can blast for a blind, sword 3 for a stun. Smart use of skills like those plus the utilities and you can receive as much damage as a warrior and not go down. A full zerk warrior still has a massive HP pool so can shrug off a lot of damage while heal signet keeps you in the fight.

I also have a hybrid sinister/rabid necro which OP might rate as fragile, but of course skills like death shroud, plague and lich form helps on the survivability front but it’s all about smart use of immobilises, cripples, blinds, chills to keep the enemy out of reach while my stacks of bleeds, torments, vulnerabilities and poison do their job.

When I play those chars, they’re in control of the fight whether it be bursting down the mob or slowing them down and killing them through attrition.

Please, don't fix this

Question for players from Australia

Azrael.4960

I’m with TPG on a 20 MBps connection and I don’t see much lag in general although I do get the odd occasion where my PC would lose its connection without anything obvious happening. A reboot sorts that out.

Just for reference, I live just outside Canberra and the only problems I get are the occasional rubber band, which is very rare, and the odd slow down.

At my other house in Sydney, where we’ve got TPG as well, the connection is very slow in comparison. Possibly due in part to the plan we’re on and the age of the lines in our area, but doesn’t really matter as I don’t play up there anyway. I’ll probably have a look at getting on the NBN when my contract is due.

I’d like to hear more from any other players who have tried Battleping particularly from Oz. I’ll try a tracert tonight and see if there’s a lot of hopping

Certain ascended items give you the option to select stats when they become ascended, but they are very few. The spinal blades, There with Yakkington: A Traveler’s Tale, Light of Dwayna, Shadow of Grenth, Chaos of Lyssa, Mawdrey and Quiver of a Thousand Arrows back pieces allowed stat selection as a once off. After you selected the stats, they become fixed.

"Suggestion" GW2 Dueling updated

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Azrael.4960

My one thing about duels is that people seem to forget players are from all over the world.

Many players, such as myself, are located a great distance from the servers leading to at times very high latency. Servers such as SoS have a large OCX presence. I’m in Australia myself but homed on Gandara while I was living in Europe. When I was in Europe, that was no problem, but now I have given up wvw because there is no way I can dodge in time or fire off my skills at the right moment. The same goes for spvp. There is no way I can compete with players that physically live nearer to the server than me. Open world dueling will still have this problem for players like me and as such I personally do not want to be badgered by dozens of duel requests.

However, I have no issue if areas were put aside for dueling. The cities are perfect for this because there are areas that can be utilised for this purpose.
In Divinity’s Reach, the Queen’s gauntlet area could be re-purposed for dueling
In Hoelbrak there is the POI which is actually an arena. Hoelbrak even has its own pvp game in keg brawl.
In Black Citadel, there is the Bane as others have mentioned
Rata sum would need a new area for this but there are several outlying POI’s that don’t serve much purpose beyond being areas we need to see for exploration.
Lion’s Arch could have that old beach area which looked like the Anet logo would be a good place for a dueling zone.

As for open world PVP, I’m a little less supportive but not 100% resistant, although I would never use it. Something like this might work: When 2 players agree to a duel, a decent sized area with a diameter equivalent to 2x the max longbow range, so 3000, is ringed in a static field that prevents the duelers from leaving and spectators from entering until at least one player is defeated. None of this stealth running away business. You accept a duel, you accept the risk of being beaten. However, the static field won’t behave like the elementalist one. It won’t knock you down if you run into it, just acts as a glass wall. This prevents KD chaining being a thing.

Just for kicks, why not have a ghostly mists warrior appear who will take bets on the fight? We could bet on a moa race, why not bet on a fight?

role system abolished Is due to depopulation?
Bias of the role it did not occur function by depopulation in GW1
but GW2 Many people than GW1 has playing
If there is a lot of people. I think I roll system is that it can be performed

many player=DPS+Tank+Healer Consist
no people=can’t DPS+Tank+Healer Consist

DPS is popular
Tank+Healer is no popular

Rather than remove the Role
I think it is best to eliminate the bias of the Role

Because there are people who want to do it because if Tank and healer
I want to play a tank and healer in GW2

I played GW1 for many years and I cannot tell you how frustrating it was waiting for a healer. As soon as a healer appeared in the outpost they were literally swarmed by party offers. The addition of healer heroes mitigated this somewhat. For the rest of the players, it could mean over an hour spent standing around waiting.

The removal of the need for party roles freed up everyone’s time to go out and be doing stuff. Every player was largely self sufficient in getting out there and fighting. If you want to play a tank in GW2, then you’ll find that virtually impossible as the aggro mechanic prevents monsters from focusing solely on one player. Healing is more possible with Altruistic healing cleric guardians and Water elementalists. There are certainly niches for those kinds of characters and there will be parties who will take them. Many veteran players have learned to not need that sort of character so by sticking with that mentality, OP you are just limiting your gaming options

I don’t think I’ve ever read a thread where the sense of entitlement has been any stronger.
We as players already get the opportunity to get the content for free. If you missed that window, a 2 week window at that, then that’s on you. Anet is a business and making content like the LS has costs. You know, little things like salaries, power, rent, paying suppliers. People like the OP and others whinging about not getting everything for free seem to think that game content is made out of the good will of the company. Do you people really think that the price of buying the game completely covers all the ongoing costs for the company? How naive can you be?

The player base raised an issue in not getting access to S1. Anet acknowledged that they are looking into making it available but there are technical challenges to do that. They made S2 permanently available content with a caveat that if you missed the window you’ll have to pay for it this is an entirely fair exchange. 200 gems is also a very tiny cost.

Continued development in the game has to be a two way street. Anet makes content for the players and in return the players should, at one point or other, pay out a least a token to support that ongoing development. Continuously asking for more free stuff that costs a company a great deal to produce is the height of foolishness, naivete and spoiled childish entitlement.

How many MMO’s have disappeared over the years trying to emulate a trinity system but just ended up turning out to be little more than a clone?

Why should all future games be stuck in this same boring mould?

Anet had the benefit that they had an existing fan base derived from GW. This gave them the opportunity to draw on that fan base and try something different. Despite its flaws, GW2 has turned out to be eminently better than a traditional trinity MMO.

A good gauge of when you’re ready to tackle a new region in any given map is to look at the monster levels. If they’re at or below your level they’ll be white but if they’re above your level their level value is red. Also, hearts will have a level value indicating the expected level you should be at to take it on. If it’s red you might want to head off somewhere else for a bit and come back later. If it’s white, you should be able to handle it. In general, you should be able to take on, with a small amount of difficulty, monsters that are 1-2 levels above you. Anything above that, you’ll need to be careful that you don’t get mobbed.

Every map in the world has a level range. It gives you a general indication of roughly what level you should go into the area at and what you should be by the time you make it to the other side.

I get the same feeling when I tag up for Teq runs and watch hordes of ppl die then lie around waiting for a res. When they get told to WP back, they get all abusive. There was one guy who got defeated in my zerg and when ppl went to res him just as battery defense phase kicked in, I told them to leave him there and get to the battery. Fortunately, the players obeyed, left his body and ran with me to the battery. We were short handed as it was. Out of that, I got a rather abusive whisper which I didn’t bother to respond to.

The same happened in marionette, though that was well before I picked up my tag. People would just be lying there even though the WP was even closer to the fight zones than in Teq.

The same problem still exists in Vinewrath. People still standing on the safe spots for Copper and then wondering why he’s “healing” when in reality it’s because he’s resetting because all the nubs are on the safe spot and no one is holding the aggro.

I’d like to see a “marionette on steroids” level fight to take down Mordy. Something so incredibly challenging that it requires an army of characters to take him on, not just a few ships. A fight where there are aerial assaults, ground assaults, bombardments, you name it. WE NEED IT ALL

Pretty much the only guardian I can 100% rely on in FOTM is my guild leader. Knows all the tricks, what weapons to use, skill sets etc

Despite being a more support oriented player he’ll dive right in. GS is excellent in last phase on cliffside for pulling in the cultists to the seal. Especially if the other players’ dps is a bit on the low side.
When he’s in the party for lava shaman, there is a 100% guarantee of popping the shields at the right moment.
Uncategorised, often a bit hit and miss mainly because of pugs. But the vast majority of the time, he’ll pull us thru the harpies.

If I’m in a guild group of our veteran players, it’ll usually be him on guard, me on warr, an ele, a ranger (yes a ranger!) and either another warr or a mesmer. We’re not the fastest but by kitten do we get through it without a hitch

Maybe for some of us, we just pick it up pretty quickly. I found it to be pretty easy to work out. It’s just a lack of situational awareness brought on by a barrage of details happening at once. The first 10-20seconds of the fight I spent running and dodging. I wouldn’t go so far as to say I analysed the fight, but that was more than enough time to observe the various details before engaging.

In all, I died maybe half a dozen times (and I played as a necro mind you, just for added challenge) but since my char had 3 sets of armour on her it wasn’t a big deal.
And to answer your question, yes I figured out the mechanics of the fight without reading the wiki or talking to anyone. I succeeded on my first run through. Broke maybe 4 pieces of armour and damaged a few others.

It’s just a matter of paying attention.

The fight with the dragon I did with my necro as she’s been doing LS2 chapters. I died a few times from some lag issues but eventually got through it. Challenging encounters whether it be the first time or tenth time through are always good in my book as long as it’s interesting.

There was another player who passed away last year and a similar thread was created. I suggested this then and suggest it again now.

I think it would be really great if Anet could somehow create an adventurer’s cemetery, something like the big one in Divinity’s Reach or the gully of cairns in Hoelbrak. Or perhaps in the upcoming Guild halls update, a memorial could be created so that players would remember those who have passed away IRL.

It’s a nice idea. Some things would need to be worked out though. How long would someone have to play to be eligible? Is this for everyone or just those in some way exceptional? If only for those exceptional, what are the limits? How would ANet verify that someone had actually died? Would they require a death certificate? (Because you know otherwise people will false report, either intentionally or mistakenly). If it’s for all players and if millions of people are playing over the years, thousands will die during this time. You mentioned a cairn. Will this be like a graveyard with tombstones with names of all the (possibly) thousands of players who died? How much space will this take up?

Just a few things that I thought of that would be needed to be figured out first. There are probably more.

Unless you are referring to a memorial without any names? A living flame sort of place.

Hmm, you make good points. I think for the simplest part, a monument like the tomb of the unknown soldier would be appropriate. Or better yet, with the upcoming guild halls there could be something the guild leader could build using influence and merits and inscribe a name on it.

Although it would be nice to have something that all players could commemorate a fallen player, it’s really most appropriate for a memorial to be in a guild hall. Players who wish to visit could do so at the invitation of a guild officer.

Mai Trin constantly applies bleeds which the traited warhorn converts to vigor, so your party in effect has unlimited dodges. Typical build is 6/x/x/4/x. The remaining points aren’t all that important.

Rest of the time, I just use my zerk / scholar armour and either GS + Axe/X or GS+Longbow. My trinkets and weapons provided more than enough AR

Snipping the rant

Having read your rather lengthy post, you still haven’t actually come up with a good legitimate reason for GW2 to have a player to player trading system except for some straw man arguments about real life.

1. How does a player to player trading system benefit the playerbase as a whole?
2. How does the in game economy benefit as a whole?
3. Given the limited resourcing of anet how much do you think they would need to invest into a dedicated service to investigate the inevitable flood of scam reports for a system that actually nets the company nothing in terms of revenue but would merely be a cost centre?
4. From a business perspective what is in it for anet to create such a costly system?

+25 Power OR +4% Damage? (Runes mix & match)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azrael.4960

Azrael.4960

Early on, there were two values displayed in your Hero Panel, Power and Attack. The attack value was the average damage you did, IIRC, whereas now we only have Power. The +4% would be off your actual inflicted damage, based on the equation for damage, not your power. This would be applied after calculations for anything that affects your Power, such as might, banners, food and consumables, were taken into account, as is obvious in the equation for Damage

Damage done = (Weapon strength) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)

So if you equipped the Ogre runes the equation becomes

Damage done = 1.04*[(Weapon strength) * Power * (skill-specific coefficient) / (target’s Armor)]

With a power of 2700 and assuming your weapon hits for 1000 against a target with 2600 armour with an autoattack (coefficient 1), the equation returns 1038.5 damage, an increase of 25 power returns 1048.1. This equates to a 0.9% increase in damage for 25 power.

I had the same thought about pack runes while writing my reply

Attack was Power+Weapon Strength which didn’t do much except mislead people.

Indeed, I tended to get quite confused by it and was glad they got rid of it.

Adding in multiple resets, regardless of what you may think, will cause an enormous influx of gold into the economy. For a portion of the gamer base, that increases their daily gold income by three times. For instance, I’m in Australia. If you tied the resets to UTC, there’d be nothing stopping players in my side of the world getting up early in the morning and doing a 10min run with the evening players in NA or EU, getting home from school/work and knocking off another 10min run with other OCX players, have dinner then have another 10min run on any given dungeon path with the late night OCX/morning EU/NA players. Cof P1 and 2 can be run easily in less than half an hour with a good group. Extra resets will have a major effect on the economy, simply because of the snow ball effect.

For those who can afford the time, they’ll see their dungeon income double at a minimum and triple in some cases. Even if this is a minority, this will increase the gold wealth disparity and inevitably push up prices on the TP.

Ultimately, it’s unfortunate that you can’t do runs with guildies and won’t do runs with pugs. One is by circumstance the other is by choice. This is basically a solution looking for a problem.

And what is stopping you doing 3 different paths? There is plenty that only take 10 minutes anyway. OH yeah – its harder to find teams because people already did them. Which is my original point.

Or, doing 3 different paths 3 times a day? The argument can easily be extended.

UTC resets are beneficial to me on weekends because my time zone is UTC+11, because of daylight savings. So when things reset at midnight UTC, I’m likely to be up both before AND after reset while EU is going to bed, because it will be 11am here

Again, in the end, your inability to do the dungeon paths you want is largely because you’ve decided against pugging. Things are working as intended as you are playing how you want. The fact that you are missing out on doing dungeons with your guildies is your problem and no one else’s.

Ultimately, it’s unfortunate that you can’t do runs with guildies and won’t do runs with pugs. One is by circumstance the other is by choice. This is basically a solution looking for a problem.

I’d go for more varied mobs. Any GW1 veteran, including myself, can tell you how mobs operated in 1. You did not go glass cannon on them. Sure, there was the trinity to back you up and what not but nonetheless the mob AI was far superior to GW2.

The game environment breeds diversity not just stats.

Most FUN rotation.

At the moment, my hybrid power/condi sinister necro with condi Sceptre/Dagger and zerk dagger/focus. Naturally, not as powerful as a full power necro but more powerful than the old full rabid necro i used to use. Regular swapping of weapons to trigger the geomancy sigil and transferring conditions with off hand dagger 4. Stack a tonne of bleeds then charge in and dagger away. kitten fun

Bunch of our guild guided a new guildie playing a lvl 34 mesmer through a lvl9 fractal just the other night. If you’re in EU, hit me up or keep an eye out for members of Balls of Superior Steel from Gandara. We’re a mixed bag of ppl who do things at random. Our leader and my fellow officers are always happy to guide a newbie through things. We’re not the fastest nor more efficient at things by any stretch of the imagination but we do it for fun.

I’ve never understood how people can use WASD to move and the same hand on the keys above for skills. If you can manage that you’re already doing better than me.

But what might help sometimes is to use the mouse to move. If you hold down both mouse buttons the character will run in whatever direction you point the mouse. If you’re already using the mouse to control the camera it should be easy to start doing. It’s not as precise as WASD, but most of the time it’s good enough, especially if you’re only doing it temporarily while using the 6-0 skills.

Another possibility I know a lot of people use is to move the movement keys down a row and put the heal, utilities and elite skills under the attack skills. Or put them around the side.

(My solution is to put all the skills onto the number pad, along with things like weapons swap, take target and dodge, then use the arrow keys to move, but that only works if you’re left-handed.)

The way I do it for 1-5 is
1. get into combat and trigger auto attack with ring finger.
2. Skills 2 and 3 are triggered by middle finger, while strafing left or right as appropriate
3. Skills 4 and 5 are index finger trigger.

I had an older mouse with browser buttons on the thumb position. The front one was dodge and the rear one was a stun breaker.
Skills 6-0 I triggered with my mouse. I always make it a point to never lose sight of my pointer. I did this by always making sure it was centred in the screen and to permanently hold down right mouse button while in combat. I’ve gotten the hang of swinging the camera around really quick to keep my eye on the action regardless of what’s going on.

But now, I’ve bought a Razer Naga which has 12 thumb buttons, so I’ve set it up to have
Mouse wheel click = Profession skill F1
1. Dodge
2. Stun breaker
3. Weapon swap
4. Utility 5
5. Utility 6
6. Elite
7. Profession skill F2
8. Profession skill F3
9. Profession skill F4
10. Heal skill

I’m so used to it now that I can even do dodge jumps without mashing V and space bar

Rytlock probably communed, or wrestled, with long dead Ritualists to gain the skills to control the spirits of the Mists.

Beldin , You are making fun of yourself with those replys .

You’ve missed the point, GW2 economy is dying day after day , everything is old & outdated , It needs a push up , it’s the right time to do so.

What’s wrong with you people ? stop trolling the forums , At least write something useful not your nonsense worthless words .

some people will disagree with OP no matter what he writes, Will also put a lot of time to prove him wrong, Does it really feel good ?

I’m trying to get the developers attention towards the trade post , prices are getting down every day , no activity no one buys , everyone bought what he wants long time ago , It’s in bad shape and soon without a solution , the economy will be dead .

Wait. I thought you were the OP. Are you referring to yourself in third person or did the OP delete his post and you are the first responder?

OP posts in their own thread replying to themselves…

we must go deeper

On a different note, I’d really like to see where you, Dark Mane, get the information that the economy is dying.
