Its pvp. Mistakes are punished; not walked away from.

Not dodging an attack that can be cast in a quarter of a second without an obvious tell from 1200 range on a 20 second cooldown, on a class that has a ranged weapon justifies unblockable, unevadable hard CC if it connects?

Thank carefully about what you’re saying.

For reference: The Entangle elite has a minute cooldown, 600 range, and a 3/4 cast time for soft cc (and even that needs tuning because it’s bugged. ) .

Because I wasn’t aware that thieves could do this and was not prepared to fight her.

hahah, oh wow…

I’m glad at least the regulars here who usually help people out actually answered the question instead of take a bunch of cheep shots, especially since we tell everyone to learn about our class in pvp and wvw forums when they encounter something they don’t know. People get around to registering something at different times than others, not a big deal and it doesn’t hurt hammer out in a thread.

Also wouldn’t hurt to bring a thief alt into pvp lobby and try it out a few times to at least log in the animations you want to look out for, even if you’re not interesting in climbing the ladder it’s still fun to fill out that catalog anyway.

For the most part people only take cheap shots here if you pretend to know what you’re talking about but it’s obvious you don’t.

If you’re new and just plain don’t understand something, usually it doesn’t summon the trolls.

So from the sound of it, people are using metabuilds that aren’t actually all that effective against something with a brain and really upset that they can’t spam a few skills like you’re Jormag?

Close/Yes, with the added note of:

You just happen to lose more as thief if you do ^. Whether or not that affects the amount of rage people send remains to be seen to me but it -could- be that.

Thieves are nearly 10 times more likely to send a QQ tell than any other class.

Why do you think thieves top that list? Not complaining just curious.

Note: Loaded question fallacy. . This is an invalid argument you’ve posed here but it’s interesting.

EDIT: Didn’t see “Lol this isn’t complaining” description. Whoops. Changing my mind and answering this civilly since it -isnt- class shaming like I thought it was.

Allegedly. It’s heavily implied though. >~>

I haven’t noticed a class specific grouping of players predisposed to sending rage whispers. I’ve gotten salty comments from every class. I wouldn’t attribute it specifically to thieves but moreso the mentality that a majority of thief players may have that steer them to pick up the class. For the most part thief play is soloist, duel-oriented and selfish. The problem is that to actually get to that playstyle proper, it takes a lot of work.

You’re probably running into people expecting their build to do the heavy lifting of their massive “I’m a kitten” ego, only for their lack of skill to drop it.
It also appears to happen with players that are generally bad/run meta, which is not class specific.

#1.) Poor sportsmanship / toxicity

I’m willing to put in the work to beat solid builds. I’d be fine if most people were polite instead of unpleasant to deal with.

All mechanical issues and imbalances take second priority compared to this. It would be easier to point out valid compints if the first issue was not so pronounced.

3. Stability is from using headshot on DH to trigger Fragments of Faith. Then set it off, giving the DH stability. Then steal that stability using Bountiful Theft. This also lets you proc your Basilisk Venom. Much harder than just dodging the traps and Deflecting Shot/Spear of Justice pull. Takes a while to kill a DH as thief, hence #1 point.

This is an example of the kind of foresight I’d like to see squishies take advantage of when it comes to fighting Dragonhunters.

Since DHs are stationary targets, watching their visual cues to see where and when they put down purification, when they’re about to tether you with justice and what trap lineup they have (note: The more damaging ones have a half second spring time, which is enough to dodge if you’re prepared for it) can allow you to work them into downstate with reasonable quickness.

And even if you arent capping the point, a guard that knows you’re going to eat him if he meets you 1v1 (assuming you find him at home) is either going to pull help from mid or go there himself. which (surprise)! is your goal.

Stop trying to face tank the damage. Traps are fine, stop standing in them doing nothing about it.

The problem with that is, they will just hit you with longbow which also deals a lot of damage, or pull you in if they can.

There’s nothing right about not being able to get near someone and still getting killed, while there’s nothing you can do about it except sitting it out and waiting till the traps are done.

No other class can do that and it’s been going on for long enough, either traps or longbow damage needs to be nerfed.

Then take a ranged weapon your self. It’s not like the long bow is an instant kill weapon.

Agreed. It’s hilarious when I slam a trap DH with symbol of punishment and aa with scepter while they stand there on point, not wanting to leave their traps.

Cool, so only way to fight them is another DH……

Or any class that has a ranged weapon. I’ve seen thief with pistols take out DH, LB Rangers, necros, warriors, well everyone. It really is a l2p issue. The only time a trap DH is a problem, is when he’s on a point with a class that can heal him.other wise he should be a free kill.

So give up point to the DH, ok got it, this is how you lose games though.

Not to mention pp thief gets murdered by literary everything else in this game.

Lol, where did I say give up the point? I said if he’s on point with a class that can heal him, like an ele. But really, trigger the traps, eat the DH, give him the obligatory “RIP”. Really trap guards are not that hard to deal with. Unless your lacking in skill. What division are you in? Bronze? I’m almost T1 gold, one.more win should do it, and I’ve not played trap guard at all because of how easy they are to beat.

I am not talking about full trapper DH and i am in plat. Maybe do some research before trashtalking.

If it’s not full trap don’t even worry about the trap. ToF does mediocre damage up front. You just have to worry about the push/pull through the blades. Use stability.

use stability… as thief… ok… which one was it? I am kind of new to thief apparently.

Maybe don’t play thief when enemy team is stacked with DH which is a hard counter to thief?

I certainly don’t like to play power rev if I see a condi heavy enemy team.

And if thief is the only class you know how to play then I guess Season 5 sux for you with all the DH stacking.

So here we come to conclusion that DHs ARE broken because you can’t play certain class all season at all because DHs are stacked in literary every match this season. Thanks for proving my point.

No I did not prove you point. I just stated something that is generally accepted as fact for oh I dunno several years now. “Guardians hard counter thieves”.

Anyone who has played a thief for the last few years would know this.

DH is not broken as a class,. It is OP when stacked and that’s a stacking issue not a class issue.

He’s not wrong RE: Thieves.

In fact, it’s even implied in the DH mechanics that they are designed to blow up thieves, with lights judgement applying reveal and vulnerability.

As a Thief or Mesmer, you are not equipped to contest DHs at melee at the moment. That being said, there are other options.

As for Stacking, I am vehemently against not allowing stacking. The PVP playerbase is already small, I’d hate to fragment it further by forcing people to play certain classes just so they can get a slot in a match, especially if they arent good at that class. That seems like a recipe for slow queue times.

why can’t people just get good? There’s several players that are disproving much of the commonly held beliefs that [X] Is op or uncounterable or weak or useless. I don’t think having to hand hold people through that process of understanding that there is a -lot- of effort that needs to go into perfecting a playstyle is something Anet needs to do with pvp regulations.

I’m numb to a lot of these “X is OP” claims now, that make exaggerated accusations about how broken a skill or mechanic is, given the fact that in game when I use these classes I get my rear end neatly handed to me by at least one player from every profession that has put obvious time and effort into learning how to fight my playstyle and master their own.

OP, if you’re successful at nerfing warrior so your [class] performs better, then what? I presume that eventually your success will be regarded as due to OP and you’ll have your damage or healing or whatever have you shaved too, then you’ll be right back on the forums asking Anet to whack the next mole-class.

Meanwhile we have a sizeable, growing number of players becoming absolute monsters with X class no matter what state it’s in. “Git Gud” might be worth a look, it takes less time to become amazing with a class than it does for Anet to balance what you’ve been crying about (six months?), and that improvement carries over regardless of game state, as opposed to becoming incompetent with [class] if Anet adjusts a few numbers because of forum whining.

Jokes aside, traps aren’t as bad as people say, but they still reward DH players with a hefty amount of damage on utilities with very little cast time, and are invisible. I can see why they’re being complained about, and for classes that… depend on melee to be viable in pvp, having a lone guard contest a point solo for because of trap drops is more than a little irritating.

Thief... the scapegoat?

Azure The Heartless.3261

Couple things.

Then you have a 4v4 at mid which you will lose as thief is underwhelming in team fights.

not necessarily. Target calling just becomes mandatory and you lose the luxury of getting stomps.

In that scenario you have to rely on your teammate at close to join mid to create a 5v4 and win or to force the bunker on far to join mid too for a 5v5. Then you can decap far and return mid (if your team didn’t already lose the 4v5 you created).

dont create a 4v5 in this scenario then. A 3v4 with you focused on a single target can help you overturn the fight. (its technically a 4v4 but let’s ignore thief’s presence for now for the sake of the thief is underwhelming argument. Lay in to one enemy, pull back, let the opponents try to rez and harass them. If you can harass a bunker off a point you can certainly down one at mid.

This is assuming you’re doing your job and home is secure or being contested by your color

This is too complex for non organized Solo Q match. It just doesn’t work most of the time.

If there is another thief in the opposing team, your role is to shut down the other thief. If he is a better player than you and kills you 24/7, nobody in your team can help you. Then you are a true liability to your team as this is your only role in the match. You can’t be helpful somewhere else.

this is true for the most part. If you’re getting outplayed by the opposing thief there’s nothing anyone can do, assuming outplayed means he is decapping AND shutting down your decaps.

Look, as a thief alt I might be inclined to agree with you if you can prove this legendary heavy slaying build exists.

You should show us the build in question with one of the guildwars2 skillbuilders, and upload a small video of you doing this in game to a guardian, revenant, or warrior, securing the stomp, and getting away with it.

Instead of just showing us numbers because.. Let’s face it, nobody’s accusing you of staging things outright but I’m sure there’s a few poor fools thinking it quite loudly.

I mean you’re clearly the paragon of virtue here and obviously just want thieves to not get free kills which is commendable! But with what you’ve given, some charlatan might just dismiss your solid evidence of thief’s OP status with “That guard wasn’t even wearing armor!” or “what sane guard would go out roaming alone?”

If we all play that build itll give Anet a clear picture of what to nerf. :y

Necro needs more sustain - it sucks

in PvP

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

I don’t play this class, but I don’t understand why people are saying “Necro needs more sustain.”

Due to the nature of your class, everyone that sees you on a point is going to focus you because your gameplay revolves around poisoning the point and corrupting our boons, which as opponents we want none of. Also, because once you’re there and in combat you can’t disengage.

Asking to die slightly less quickly isn’t going to do anything. We’ll just focus you harder. It’ll become mandatory to focus you. You’ll be digging yourself into a pit.

Again, I dont play this class, so I could be talking out of my rear end here, but coming from someone who’s seen some horrid nerfs as far as the only three classes I have played for more than a year go, being strong at dueling while also being a support class puts you on the chopping block for nerfs. DH is getting dialed back already, and Warrior just recovered from being unplayable. Aim for balance here, not to shift op, because eventually it’ll just get nerfed back to where it was, or worse. Is there a way to buff necro survivability directly that doesnt make them impossible to face as it stands now in 1v1?

I don’t understand the intricacies of necro yet, but I’ve fought many of them in pvp, And there are two things that I’ve seen as a constant regarding the profession.

  • We will call target on you immediately if you show up at a point and there’s more than one of us.
  • You’re probably not going to go to far because lol you’re a necro.

Would pushing for a slightly less tanky but more mobile version of necro be something reasonable? Or does it just not suit the playstyle? I’m not talking thief level here but at least something that can decap far.

I’ve been looking at a couple of the complains about how poor matchmaking for this pvp league is, with individuals lamenting that the entirety of the leagues regardless of division is a coin flip: Either you get a decent team or a bunch of players who can’t fight.

This seems reasonable enough as an assertion, but I’m also looking at some of the leaderboards, and some of these people have 5-6 losses through the whole season thus far, with every other match they’ve played being a win.

Statistically that -should- be impossible, but yet they appear to be doing it consistently.

It’s a bit confusing. You’d think one-two people shouldn’t be able to carry a whole team, and yet to have a record like that you’d have to do just that.

Is there something I’m missing here? Or did these players win a figurative matchup lottery?

OP critically misunderstands that people complaining mean they -want- to enjoy this game but for some reason cannot. Reasonable complaints should occasionally be listened to. It’s damaging to you as a player and to the game itself to tell people to stop whining or play something else if they are making modest requests, because you lose a potential teammate to help you complete content and Anet loses potential gem sales.

Also if OP took his own advice this thread wouldn’t exist.

Necro should be able to trade some of the sustain they already have for mobility, because we’re going to focus you on point anyway due to the nature of your class. Doesn’t matter if you get a sustain buff or not, you can’t hold up against 3+.

Necro needs to be able to fill a different niche so people are less inclined to just default to “Focus necro”.

If you’re slow, corrupt boons, and lay marks but have 25% more health, counterplay is -focusing is now more mandatory-.

If you’re quicker and can… say, reasonably decap far or retreat after dropping marks, now we have a match.

Hello,
Im happy with the ‘nerf’. I like to play hybrd shiro/mallyx and the new stunbreak added to Mallyx helps a lot. My main damage sources are autoattack and banish enchantment. I use sword 2 to stop kitters and sw3 to evade. Better success and fun from the last patch, at least for my play style.

Regards,
Rurik

Playing shiro and mallyx is just gimping yourself and your team.

Not if he’s condi.

Especially if he’s condi. No team buffs, another bad heal, no flame on point, no megastun. For a teleport (Axe#4) and quickness (unnecessary).

Mallyx heal is fine if you pull conditions first, and flame is replaced by unyielding which procs leeching on projectile and blindness on blast. Lacks team buffs but you take conditions off them.

It’s different but worth exploring.

after a few days of playing rev i gotta say that its good in teamfights, but i cant count how many times i couldnt kill downed players cause all of the cc. would really wish to get some access to stability other than retri.

That’s so cute you must be adorable standing there while you press your utility hotkeys and try to move the camera at the same time.

You really learn a thing or two from the playerbase with comments like these I tell you.

Pretty sad to see people defending such brainless easy kills builds. No wonder why ANET can’t ever come close to balance when the feedback is full of biased "facts"and double standards.

As someone who plays every heavy and Thief, there’s nothing a oneshot thief does that is more “brainless” than the other classes. You can list any class in this game and I can give you at least three dumb mechanics they have that make them cheesy. That doesn’t make them worth nerfing though, otherwise they wont be able to deal with the similarly-ridiculous gambits the other classes have.

For instance, what class do you play? :y

Instead of thinking that the people who have given up every ounce of damage mitigation in order to do pure, raw damage are silly for thinking you’re being silly for asking for a nerf, I’d encourage you to go play thief and see just how fragile they are.

It’s not the thief’s fault nobody saw him at 1200 range, he’s not running stealth. He cant even get the kill because he’s too squishy to even sit around and risk being hit by a stray AOE. At best, he’s a nuisance. Watch the video again and look at how much health he loses from just getting clipped by some stray cleave for a second.

I remember selling those runes to the merch last year in masses since they were useless. I am not sure what’s sadder: the change anet made to keep players longer online (although the outrage was huge cuz 10k drinks) or the players who are willing to sacrifice tons of money and time to have some stupid snowflakes falling around you. I mean wtf!?

Shh. Auras are new shinies and they are prime sources of speculation profit.

In extreme terms GW2 is nothing more than a Single Player game with a very very extensive amount of content you can collect, in a world shared with other players.

It is like playing All assasins creed games and collecting all the collectibles to reach 100% completion.

First point: No it isn’t. This game is geared specifically toward working with others to achieve objectives in all the major game spheres. It’s not at all like Assassin’s creed. You can certainly play it solo, or with the mentality that you are solo; but that doesn’t affect the fact that the mechanics are built around grouping up to do content.

While I understand that the endgame rewards require an incredible amount of objectives to obtain, at some point you need to step back and either accept that the game is so vast that unless you play around the clock there will be some things you don’t get, or focus on getting everything eventually.

Leave the exclusives where they are. They encourage people that like certain content to continue to play it, or draw people who otherwise may not even give that content a chance to at least try it.

Raids were deveoped as a specific answer to players that wanted difficult content that forced cohesion and pushed limits. To implement that without a goal to work towards to show that you can consistently do that content seems half baked.

I understand that building a ten man group may be off putting to some, but there are people on the otherside that despise pugs and easily achievable skins/items, and they’re back here now because raids filled that lack they had. Instead of asking the skill ceiling to step down, I would encourage you to step up to the challenge of organizing that setup yourself.

I think exclusive rewards for completing challenging content is not only acceptible, but mandatory to ensure that there is a healthy pool of players (regardless of their intentions) willing to complete the content.

Let’s be honest. There are a significant amount of people who do content specifically for the prestige rewards, specifically to show them off . You cannot blame or punish them for that attitude, because if they do not assist the playerbase that does challenging content for the sake of challenging content, they will have a harder time grouping up to do the content. I do not know to what extent grouping for raids will suffer, but it would behoove you to ensure that the players, regardless of their determination, can share a common goal.

This is Guild Wars. I think your ability to organize, lead, or adequately be part of a well-forged group should determine the complexity of the content you can complete, including raids. And I think that it’s certainly fine to have specific rewards for doing specific content a certain way. You dont need anything in this game that is prestiged to play or do well.

That’s how thieves should be played. Glass ones, anyway.

He’s running full glass, and D/D. He’s specced specifically to lay into one target in a second, then retreat. He cannot secure stomp, he cant retaliate against people who catch on to him because he has to swap to SB immediately to secure exit, and his utilities all burn with burst, so if he whiffs he’s a sitting duck.

He downed driver, but that’s all he can do. That amounts to harassment.

Before suggesting nerfs, you need to understand why that happened. The squad was not aware enough to scout him before he got within port range.

Fast paced… you mean, the character moves fast, or you mean the player has to think fast?

A combination of both of those: Reaction/twitch based playstyle with skills that have low cast times.

I’m going to try GS, Sword/shield or Sword/Focus DPS Guard.

Hello,
Im happy with the ‘nerf’. I like to play hybrd shiro/mallyx and the new stunbreak added to Mallyx helps a lot. My main damage sources are autoattack and banish enchantment. I use sword 2 to stop kitters and sw3 to evade. Better success and fun from the last patch, at least for my play style.

Truth is the devs prioritise pve over pvp, as such there are no restrictions….anybody can join pvp and screw everybody else

This is subjective. When glorious armor came out the argument was the complete opposite, with pve players complaining that PVP got game mode specific rewards. I don’t think they prioritize either, but at some times misjudge how willing some of those players screaming “I will only play pve and how dare you not give me all the shinies for playing the game mode I like” are to jump right into PVP if the prize is good enough.

You have to absolutely be much higher skill level than everyone else to do well with Rev now with all the nerfs its had. Its simply not worth it unless you really love playing the class. It does better if you can duo with an Ele to help cleanse for you.

Ive seen so many odd buffs and nerfs that I dont even try making sense of or pushing for fixes anymore. Revenant is bad, but I’m fine with having to try harder.

What?

Power Rev is still pretty decent, it’s just not mandatory anymore.

I apparently said “Revenant is Bad” without thinking. I actually meant “Revenant has a higher skill floor.”

Whoops, Freudian. I’m actually not a good revenant atm and my thoughts just slipped there.

I’ve been watching a certain Power Revenant named Angel wipe the floor with people, and Mallyx condi has been netting me successes here and there since there is now a stunbreak, so obviously its not bad.

But.. Well, you can see how I feel about a list of patch notes nerfing damage on a class already (Imo) difficult to play. I might just need more training.

The biggest mistakes Anet did is by allowing under lvl 80 in pvp to join ranked and adding ascended set as reward for new currency. now those newbies are bringing others down.

Oi guildie, I’m not 80 too by the way =)))

About them PvE players tho – they are usually easily recognizable. Pve-titles, pve-pets on rangers, pve builds overall (like staff ele and some crazy poop like axe-axe warrior). The main problem is that so-called “players” don’t even want to learn – they never bothered with guides, builds and at least basic training; I bet 99.99% of them are terrible in PvE too and cannot do raids because golem dps check is too complicated and bothersome.

So it is not even “hate”, I just simply despise that low-effort, brain-dead joke of a players.

I was flamed for using staff on my ele. There is a guide for it: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Guide-Staff-Elementalist-sPvP-Guide/first

and i also asked other eles on the official forums regarding the hate i got and I was basically told -> staff isn’t bad, people are just toxic

Can you explain to me why you say that staff ele is a pve build thing?

Thanks.

EDITED: You know what, let’s scratch everything I just said. Instead, this:

  • Never run Axe offhand if you are a warrior pvping, unironically.
  • PVP staff ele is nice, but keep in mind you may suffer at dueling, so you may not be able to contest points on your own. There may be ways to diminish this with lots of practice.

In short, run whatever you like as long as you arent running Axe 4 and 5 as a warrior. Otherwise you are ‘that guy.’

What frustrates you most when you lose?

in PvP

Azure The Heartless.3261

Just posted this in another thread. Can’t agree more.

There needs to be some logic coded in the post game score to penalize those who try vs those who give up. Sure, maybe the game would have ended up a loss anyway even if they tried. But going AFK does impact and it causes frustration for those who are honestly trying. Trying to win, or learn, or get better. Not because they are pro or look at how I did.

Last 4 games for me before stopping are all losses. In each case one or two of our team stopped playing. I know this isn’t unique to GW2 but it sure in the heck is frustrating. And definitely is a buzzkill with regards to the enjoyment of the game. Losing because the other team is better is perfectly fine. Losing to afk is not.

You can’t carry AFK.

Just a tidbit regarding this:

There is an implemented monitoring system to both determine when someone isnt participating long enough to warrant a kick, and one for pve that scales down rewards for people not actively participating, so there is foundation for this kind of solution.

However, I don’t think it is worth the effort. We’ll probably just go from afkers to people using macros or sandbagging to bypass the system once its been released.

There’s a difference between hoarders (who effectively hold on to items for personal use/gratification) and merchants (who make decisions using the market to profit.)

And neither of these types of people make the community toxic.
The people that make the community toxic are the people that feel they are entitled to dictate the prices in a free market, when all they are entitled to is the freedom to not use it if they so choose.

OP is attempting to criminalize/shame people clever enough/lucky enough to stockpile an item that he now has personal want of, because they are selling them at a price he is not willing to pay.

Should be solo Q only tbh.

If you want to play with friends there is unranked.

The ONLY reason to want teams in ranked is so you can have an advantage. There is not a single existing valid argument any other way that doesn’t result in “Just play unranked”. If you want organized 5v5 full pro teams you can also setup scrims in a custom arena.

Interesting.

I’d go a step further and say “Ranked is for solo, unranked is for whatever you want, and perhaps a third division for GVG.”

Only tentatively though. I’d like to not fragment the playerbase.
