I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
Lmao.
concerns about random drop rate, but that’s an interesting way to pick your playerbase.
Kudos to whoever came up with the idea.
Shirtless is an option.
Just take off your chest armor. You cannot do this and keep PvP armour levels or Rune Bonus. Its not a valid option for playing.
Sure it is. Your man-factor overrides the armor rating and rune bonus you’d normally get.
Dare to live on the razor’s edge.
Agreed, the problem isn’t really their brainless burst but the fact they have so much cc AND signet of stone.
Nerf or I quit.
lmao?
Reflect, dodge, if signet pops reset fight with los.
If you dance around a ranger when their SoS is on cooldown, their LB is useless and they often panic.
The second the devs said necros have a second health bar everyone who actually plays necro knew they are clueless.
+1
I dont play necro and even I found this to be a silly statement.
They cant heal the DS outside of one 40 second cd skill, or their normal HP while in it, so it’s hardly a second life bar. It actually gimps their only health bar.
They’re strong in team fights but they cant deal with the focus that usually brings them, which makes them disadvantaged often in 1v1. That and they’re slow besides.
They need some love Anet. I’m relaxed as a thief if I spot one of them and I’m carrying SB.
@ Above quote: Yeah, that was an oversight. If you guys are getting wells and can max your power line, I think that the DS issue can be stood.

*Even if you decided to spec into acro, you have hard to catch, which is getting a pretty substantial buff, or you have swinder’s equilibrium, which is kittening amazing. Imagine how easy it is to evade random AoE in a team fight, and now imagine shaving off 1s on steal every time you do (with only 1s ICD). That is just borderline OP.
I don’t understand how any thief can QQ about these changes.
This.
I dont care that I dont get endurance back on dodge now, if I evade anything I get vigor, and I have a trait that lets me do it when swiftness is applied, which is, conveniently, every time I steal.
Player knew their style I guess. I gotta get better then.
Good attitude. Never lose that.
Most of my builds are better at the moment. I want to see what is Actually broken when the patch actually drops, so no comment on anything being burned atm.
Anet was actually surprisingly efficient at maintaining the spirit of many builds, and even added a reason to press #6 on a warrior/ direct counterplay to condi builds that dont require CI Spam.
None of that is set in stone though, so before I get my hopes up and start celebrating, I’m gonna keep my pokerface on until the patch actually gets released
I understand that bare chest as a cosmetic choice is a thing, but you can achieve the same results by just taking the stat dip/increased risk and unequipping your chest slot, and you get a dash of immersion-continuity with the added risk.
But eh. “invisible armor” would be a good fix for this.
You guys aren’t being helpful at all to the OP. He obviously doesn’t know how to bring the camera around to view the front of his char and just saying “do that” doesn’t explain it at all. What muscles are used and in what sequence? Is there a best rotational speed to move the camera to bring it around? What mouse buttons need to be held down? Explain it better!
Nah.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Options#Camera
Free camera control or get used to charr tails(sylvari rear? Etc?) .
Some kind of color changing dye that changes colors on your armor to set values based on some kind of criteria like time of day or health status would be pretty neat.
Id love an offhand sword, but I bought a rifle skin just in case. Hopefully we dont get something obscure like an axe
Or like.. a torch.
So how do I survive if I don’t rely on stealth? I can’t exactly tank like a warrior and I cant sustain like a cele. If someone so much as looks at me I’m going to die.
Dodges, ports, blinds, evades, interrupts, and stolen skills.
basically, you shut down attacks either as they happen or before they happen.
Shortbow 3, Dagger pistol 3, Sword 2, and pistol 4 are all your bread and butter skills.
Stolen skills are remarkable effective against the classes that provide them:
Elementalists produce an ice shard, which chills for 11 seconds, thus slowing cast time
Thieves provide hair tufts which provide free stealth.
Guardians provide Mace crack, which provide free stun
Mesmers provide plasma, which gives a thief all boons in the game.
Engies provide throw gunk, which causes random conditions and can be leapt through for chaos armor, which does the same.
Warriors provide whirling axe which, when standing in a powder field, provides blinds, projectile reflection, and high dps.
Necros provide skulls, which provide free fear. Fearing a necro while stealthed is a guaranteed interrupt unless they have Esp.
Rangers provide healing seed, which removes conditions, and can be leapt through for free health.
Stealth is good for evasion, but it has high upkeep cost, so your focus should be on using steal moves successfully and evading big spike damage attacks.
Thieves cannot tank or sustain. They have really big burst, so abuse it, then get out of the way of melt moves.

Done (#11 SERVED)
i have to puke when i see your skillbar
It’s funny watching others puke when I puke on them with my cancer turrets. Oh my the salty orphan tears do flow, indeed.
I’m mildly saddened that often, people with the most do-nothing builds have the absolute worst attitudes to go with it.
I wonder how theyll feel when their turrets get wiped much easier.
How much you care about traits may fall into what kind of gamer you are.
During a talk, Richard Garfield (game designer Magic the Gathering) divided game players into two groups: Honers and Innovators. Honers want the best results and will use the proven builds to get them. They will adopt the strategy proven most successful and try to hone it to its most perfect usage. Honers play to win and are not happy with any failure. Honers want to perfect known situations. If a really important trait broke… they would probably switch to a different profession while the first one is broken.
Innovators on the other hand want to explore the big strategic ideas offered by the game. They are the ones who get excited by concepts and possibilities and working things out. Innovators are driven less by success, and more by the process of developing. When their build works they are happy, if it fails, it leads to more tinkering. For the innovators, the choices that other people scoff at or call worthless may be the key to an interesting new tactic.
“Most games are owned by the honer.”
Off topic, but +1 to this
MMOs have a third group.
They are the people who WANT to be innovators, but don’t actually put effort toward innovating.
They:
- Cannot tell you even a fraction of their skills or traits off the tops of their heads
- Do not know what is available to them
- Refuse to accept the meta as a baseline, even when they are under performing
- Complain on the forums that their class is underpowered or that the meta is essentially cheating
- Will not take advice from anyone because they want to do it themselves
- Don’t actually do it themselves
- Get mad when PuGs discriminate against them
- Will not change their build or strategy because they think they already struck gold and the game should conform to their playstyle
- Often have opinions against normal things like [farming] so strong that they’ll never try it once or twice
- Read in the update notes about a small nerf to a skill/method and drop it like it was removed entirely
- Want us to believe, despite all this, that they are the nice/good people
And this too.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
It would be greatly detrimental to Anet if they take toons that are currently fully traited and fully skilled and roll back any of that.
They would literally kill their game because many people will walk. i just can’t see them being that daft.
This this this.
I hope for the best with this new system, but I cannot stress enough that, even though I adore GW2 and think it is one of the best mmos out there to spend my free time on, Any falling away from the fact that they are doing all in their power to steer clear of “no gear treadmill” in order to implement this new skill line (even though it may be better in the long run) that causes me to have to work just to return to the current effectiveness of my characters (nerfing given exemption), it will leave a very bad taste in my mouth.
More engaging/reliant on active defense than many of the other classes.
Medi guard dies in a few blows. They only got focus block, aegis, stability, blinds, heal block, invulnerability elite that also heals them.. Really paper build.
10/10
edit: forgot to mention i am pve player and build would be used in pve
Anything works in pve just about. For mobgrinding yes, that’s fine.
make the p/p thief a thing
It’s already a thing, people just don’t run it.
Hopefully, not that it isnt hilarious to use in wvw now.
Hi there,
I’ve recently started playing a thief and i’m lvl 66 now. I always bring a SB with me for the mobility with 5, but besides that the SB seems so useless to me. I don’t know how to get any dmg off with it. The autoattack deals no dmg in PvE compared to any other weapon, the clusterbomb deals avg dmg unexploded and is unreliable manually exploded, the 3 is more of an evade which deals no dmg, the 4 is just a poison field.I just don’t understand why people always praise the SB on thief so much. Am I missing something here? How do I play with it?
Thanks in advance
Here are the basics.
Compared to pistol, Shortbow offers more control and more mobility.
Evades on demand to put distance between mobs, ports on demand for the same. As a squishy class you should have escape options available at all times.
Compared to the other ranged option, it’s almost a no brainer for many thieves.
For survivability max out shadow art and then crit damage or condition damage choices skills wisely
Eventually thieves will stop doing this when they realize it only helps them survive as long as they arent attacking, which means the opponent has a chance to heal.
And also that points cant be capped under stealth.
It’s good to help learning players adjust to the fast pace of the games, but once you are accustomed to fighting in pvp I suggest you abandon the trait line immediately, perhaps in favor of acrobatics or dps.
First of all maybe it is just me and my personal experiences may come down to me being a medicore player.
The Topic:
From what i can see Ele’s are the top profession of any gametype.
In PvE they offer the biggest DPS in the game + soft and hard cc, amazing support lots of fields and lots of finishers. I mean its pretty hard to make an argument for filling the slots with anything non ele when you have a guard already.
In PvP the Celestial varriant can beat about any other class in 1v1 and shrug of conditions as well as direct damage while dealing great damage themselves. Zerker with focus offer allmost no counterplay because all the spells are instant casts with instant procs from fire/air sigill. Even then they get all of that from their weapons and can take all the defensive utility they want.
In WvW they are the main source of Damage and can lay waste to entire Zergs. As well as sustain their own with waterfields and harrass the enemy with static fields. They also make excelent roamers and scouts.
I get that elementalists are supposed to be able to do many things but right now they seem to be the best at everything.
Have you played one? The ele’s have versatility, sure, but the effectiveness of that versatility is directly dependent on how squishy they are. They do get to do many things as a core feature of their class, but the other classes that have a focus on specific kinds of playstyles outperform the ele in their respective aspects.
For example, an ele has control, but not comparable to a warriors.
An ele has burst, but not comparable to a thief, Not to mention that attunements microbalance their effectiveness even further.

Five good minion master necros all named “Generic Necro _” .
It’s pretty broken and that fact is obvious:
- because it’s the default amulet of most meta builds. It’s just so prevalent.
Wrong. That doesn’t mean it’s broken. It’s just effective.
If people want to give up all their defense for stupid big damage, let them. People run carrion and soldier and other amulets too.
The broken amulet is Celestial. It turns most battles into ones of attrition, which is essentially a game winner on modes where you just have to exist on a point to win.
Plus they already nerfed it.

Now I know why Rytlock is blind. He didnt want to see the spoilers.
I always thought it was cause he couldn’t stand to read anymore warrior patch notes.
He wasnt a warrior though. He had a pistol. Warriors are too dumb to use pistols, says Anet.
He fell into the mists and he was handed a script for the new season. Halfway through he said “nope”, put a blindfold on, and left.
Just implement underdog rewards for continuing to gain points in the event of an incoming game wipe (200 point discrepancy before halftime), with rewards becoming progressively better the better you do (with prime rewards at winning the match.)
Insert algorithms to determine which matches fit this criteria here.
Asking to change the game so others NEED your support is not realistic in the least…..
I don’t think anyone here asked for that. At least I for one do not want to need a healer/support. What I would like to see is the ability to have a healer but not need one.
…..That is EXACTLY what you are asking for in an indirect manner. If a healer isn’t needed, then why are they in the party? I get you WANT to play that way, but the other 4 players have every right to ask the question, “why?”, do they not?
The ability for a party to “HAVE” a healer has always been present and what you REALLY want is for the game to be changed so other want them in the party. I hate to break it to you, but that will never happen unless they are “needed”.
This.
At what point does a class that does little else but provide support become an optimal option?
In games where they are optional but not needed to clear content, why use them when you can get by without?
In games where they are needed to clear content, the game cannot progress without them, which means people will wait around until a decent healer shows up.
There’s no middle ground for classes dedicated entirely to healing (when it comes to dungeons, and dungeons specifically). We either need you or we don’t, on any given content.
Making them viable would mean creating content which requires their presence, which would gate that content twice. On the back end, people that want to play that content will need a dedicated healer. On the front end, people that want to play dedicated healer will only be needed on that content.
It makes much more sense to just not force people into roles.
You can’t force the game to consider healing power builds optimal, as it stands now. They will work, youll be able to kill stuff, but on dungeons, and dungeons SPECIFICALLY you will not be optimal, if the party is either speedrunning or knows how to run that dungeon.
Healing specs are welcome in small-and-large scale WVW fights though.

Beserker builds… Okay, well, I always took them as a simple “Lets See Who Dies First” type of situation.
You’re close.
For some people it’s a game of chicken when it comes to damage, but for others its a “I dont need to run toughness because I know how the mobs/classes/general opponents fight and am prepared to deal with that damage by other means than toughness.”
Instead of toughness, Berserker mains excel at using:
*Blinds
*Blocks
*Reflects
*Dodges
*Stealth
*Interrupts
*Control
to survive, instead of using their armor to damage soak.
It’s incredibly unforgiving when it comes to making mistakes, but it forces you to learn not to make mistakes and helps increase player skill as a result.
Keep in mind, also, that it is a stat combination, not an all or nothing build. People can run berserkers on some armor and then supplement it with tankiness from other armor to outlast full berserker builds. Like all the other stat combos out there, it sacrifices certain stats to buff others.
It may be difficult to play, but the payoff is worth it.

Counterception.
You do realize that is a birth control term right?
You’re thinking of Contraception.
Trust me, both terms are interchangeable. If not, look it up.
“Counterception” as a word doesn’t exist. It is mainly use by people mispronouncing “Contraception”.
I did and came up with this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QqOMc8Vs7zU
I am more than willing to help a new thief train. Send an add if you want~
A single tear was brought to my eye as one more player realizes the struggle.
Reasons to nerf Berserker gear offered so far… My responses on parenthesizes.
1. Bored. (you’re bored of the content. playing a healer won’t make doing AC more fun)
2. Diversity is a good goal. (We already have build diversity. gear diversity is enforced naturally by the challenge or lack thereof of the content)
3. I enjoy playing other roles than DPS… (so go play them, no one is stopping you!)
4. …but I don’t want to be ineffective. (So you really just want your roleplay build to get buffed)
5. Different gear should enable different playstyles. (Actually, it doesn’t have to do anything. There is no law that says that. Anet designed the game to have traits be a more meaningful determinant of your playstyle than your gear. Simply put, you WANT gear to enable playstyles but that is a far cry from saying is SHOULD enable playstyles.)
6. It makes the game too easy, fights are over before you have to dodge. (Thats a content problem not a gear problem. People who solo bosses take minutes to kill them and dodge a lot and wear berserker so they aren’t being blown up in seconds)
7. In Silverwastes Berserker isn’t meta (It is, but either you aren’t skilled enough to survive or you are but just aren’t aware of it.)
8. Well they should eliminate all gear stats and make all gear the same. (no one here disagrees)
9. Berserker isn’t fun for me. (That’s probably a content issue. Or a roleplaying issue. Or an issue of you not referring to my response to #3)
Can we have this comprehensive guide stickied please?
I actually lol’d
denouttaden.
They will be changed to be crit and vuln to conditions, which means buildings can bleed which is RIDICULOUS.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/pvp/Proposed-Changes-for-Engineer-Turrets/first
Well, you can bleed fluid lines.
I couldnt resist.
Until I get mawdrey and fractal gear for playing PVP, then I don’t have any desire to talk about balancing the reward system between the two modes.
The game caters to PVE. The PVP rewards are just occasionally shiner. And for good reason, because the pvpers put up with what the pvers will not.
- Create ranked and unranked 3v3 arenas! You can only play ranked arenas by establishing a team!
- Balance the game to where the tankier you are, the less damage you deal and vice versa!
- Balance patches will come out more frequently!
- The Spirit Watch orb will grant a fixed movement speed and replace your weapon and utility slots with its own abilities!
- Remove Skyhammer until it can be fixed!
- Remove daily profession wins! Replace it with defeat x class where x is randomized for everybody!
- Institute free PvP weekends where maybe one weekend per month, anyone can create a free GW2 account that’s restricted to the Heart of the Mists! Characters on these accounts will be unable to send/receive mail, whisper, use the trading post, and receive rewards from PvP! These accounts deactivate once the free weekend is over! Work in progress idea to make this game more popular since the addition of arenas will no doubt surge the PvP population in ways that we can only dream of!
And that’s just to start!
Wahoo! Bye frands!
Have my children Anet hire pls
Why you have only 736 people do the survey
but there are 973 main class
one people can main 2 class?
Sure. Why not. I play my warrior and thief equally, but I have an engie I rarely play.
I listed warrior as alt though.
Wooden addressed this pretty neatly:
Changing the stat combination for zerker won’t spread power across the board. The people playing zerker want the fastest kills at the expense of [insert thing to give up here]. Any stat armor that accomplishes this most efficiently will be the most popular.
Before this becomes 10 pages, I’d like to note that trying to force people skilled enough at the game to not require passive defense to move slower will not be good for anyone. Youll just kitten off the people you’re making slower and force them to make a new meta that is as close to the original as possible.
The game was intended to be played actively. Zerker is prime gear for that. Leave it alone.
Can we go roam about in PVE while queued like before?
Wishful thinking. You’re looking at the math yourself.
Did you really stop reading mid sentence?
The fact that my data yielded 0 (zero. ZERO) procs before 5 seconds for 30 minutes of testing means that the test is conclusive.
I was also using rage sigil, meaning that every 30 seconds I would rapidly cast a chain of life blasts that had 0.5 second cast times.
The point is that within 30 minutes of testing, there should have been at least 1 data point of an air proc before 5 seconds. Again, the results are conclusive.
But go ahead and keep posting and bumping this thread. Perhaps the devs will read it.
Hopefully they do, then it would get a buff (or a tooltip fix), both of which are reasonable options.
No, I did not stop reading mid sentence. I conceded that your results were reasonable. I was directly addressing your assertion that the data is irrefutable simply because you got a 0 proc rate for repeated testing on an outcome affected by random number generation.
No, it’s not absolute. It’s convincing, but not 100% conclusive.
Did you account for the skill note and latency?
Notes
Attack speed is approximately 1.4 seconds per attack.
Irrelevant.
If the air sigil has an internal cooldown of 3 seconds, it would proc before 5 seconds using my test. That is absolute and irrefutable.
Wishful thinking. You’re looking at the math yourself. I don’t know how you’re deluding yourself into believing that a theoretical chance becomes absolute if you do it eight times, but have fun with that.
Skill rate and your latency are also very relevant, because your description of 5 seconds could be offset due to those factors. (It would be helping your case of air CD being > 3 seconds, but at least we’d have a solid frame of reference.)
Again, your data is reasonable, but not absolute. Don’t market it as such. Like I said, I really don’t care if it’s broken or not, so I have no need to prove it is working as intended.
If you’re going to say it is broken though, you need to tie up loose ends.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
why people are trying to prove that the sigil CD is indeed 5 seconds when the proc has only a 50% chance of activating per hit, even if crit rate is 100%, is beyond me.
My test used 100% crit piercing life blasts that pierced through 8+ golems per life blast.
8 golems = 50% + 50% + 50% + 50% + 50% + 50% + 50% + 50% chance of a proc per life blast (cast time: 1 second).
Please understand the math. The results are conclusive.
Did you account for the skill note and latency?
Notes
Attack speed is approximately 1.4 seconds per attack.
And even so, that result is theoretical (and reasonable), but not conclusive. Flipping a coin eight times doesn’t guarantee an outcome.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
Couple notes.
However, event and combat credit for those that try to stay off to the side flinging support (healing, buffs, and non damage related effects) grow disappointed that they do not get that participation check, or if they do, its not frequent enough to be noticed. This is 50% hearsay, 50% myself.
Healing power is as effective/rewarding as it is for a reason. Namely to prevent this:
I’m pretty much afk auto attacking Grenth while piles of corpse lies around me.
To accomplish that, This is a thing:
Each player who participates in killing a monster will have the opportunity to loot the body. Each monster has a damage table and a threshold value of damage done to it by the player before it will give full credit for the kill. This value is about 5% to 10% of the monster’s health.3 The loot dropped is unique to the player, and loot received by one player does not affect what another player receives. One monster may drop the same rare item for multiple players.
I understand that this is a suggestion thread to make healing more viable, but to those looking to reason that tank/support builds are favorable in dungeons, please realize that you are sacrificing dps (and other player’s time) to top up their health and passive defense that they do not need (if good zerker, obviously bad ones exist). Therein lies lots of the frustration.
I’d be ticked off if playing an RPG and my mage party member healed me for trivial amounts when they could be helping me chip away at boss health.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
Everyone here is wrong and obviously has never heard of Schrodinger’s Cat.
Because the sigil has a 50/50 chance of proc, it is both alive and dead at the same time.
#schooled/thread – You’re welcome.
“How can we possible determine 50/50….yea, let’s just flip a coin, that’s heads or tails…We would need 50 coins, then 50 more: 50-50….then my computer can analyze it…with science”
You’d actually need a random number generator (for crit chance) to determine whether you flip that coin or not.
Previous page comments are making me smile.
Everyone here is wrong and obviously has never heard of Schrodinger’s Cat.

why people are trying to prove that the sigil CD is indeed 5 seconds when the proc has only a 50% chance of activating per hit, even if crit rate is 100%, is beyond me.
It’s not possible to validate that the sigil rate is working unless you have a perma 100% crit rate, clock every proc of Air sigil, and happen to catch a time gap between them of 4.99 seconds or less, assuming you attack (unfailingly, mind you, in a game with cast times and lag) once every second.
(and even then it would be broken. You’d need to catch one at -precisely- 3.00 to confirm it is “working as intended”.)
That’s why I asked Sunfish for how he came to that conclusion. Instead people are trying to prove it’s broken, even though he’s the one who made the claim and clearly has no desire to back up what he’s saying.

No pity for someone that lets a fire-air combo hit them on both weapon sets without doing something.
There’s no way to avoid air-fire.
What u said makes literally 0 sense
Lol I know. Its funny their arguement is “l2p”. That is exactly my point. You cant avoid fire and air unless you dodge every auto attack/attack.
It is at odds with the way the game was meant to be designed – using dodge to show your skill and avoid damage.
Okay, guess we’re just going to say “No pity for someone that lets a fire-air combo hit them on both weapon sets without doing something.” = “Lol dont get hit by fire/air sigils”
Instead of “No pity for someone that lets a fire-air combo hit them on both weapon sets without doing something.”
So essentially any character that is dead, dying, or will die can be recasted at any given time under a coat of “alternate reality” paint.
ZHAITAN LIVES
Wait. Doesn’t this mean that Scarlet Briar lives as well? Makes you think. And while we are at it, the mentors also live. Cool. All the possibilities!

Scarlet is alive
Tybalt is alive
