I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
Srsly anet, stop this nonsense with “I dont give a single kitten” policy and start supporting the effort which a couple of players do with duo or solo runs. Better players should be better rewarded, its just natural.
And we all know that it wouldnt be that much effort to add a couple of lines in a few scripts to realize it.
What if we’re stuck at the last boss of a dungeon for 20 minutes because one or two people in the party keep screwing up and just won’t listen?
This is what we have guilds for.
What?
Got bad teammates = play with your guild
Got bad players I wanted to make some gold off of = This is a travesty
The prevalence of bad teammates spoiling a team run is a more widespread issue than the prevalence of bad run-buyers spoiling a paid run.
You can’t invalidate his point without invalidating your own.
The Megaservers allow you to play with people on different worlds. You are only pitted against them in EOTM and WVW if you are on different home servers.
This is NOT a game called AION.
This is NOT a game of thrones.
We’re NOT Crows. Then why black wings in a game where there is no flying involved?
?
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Raiment_of_the_Lich
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Raiment_of_the_Lich
Notice something missing from the second?
It’s literally in lore, I don’t know why people are pretending that somehow Anet promised that they would never, ever sell us back mounted wings due to it being against the nature of all good mmos or something.
I’m all for bikinis and goggles and underwater themed stuff, but there’s no argument that wings are this completely new, unfamiliar concept to Guild Wars.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
COME ON! I rolled a BEAT, race that is winning wars! Not SKIRT OR RAT!!!!
Please do something about it.
Thank you.
Rolled a bea[s]t, dissatisfied with bea[s]t stance?
Sure. let’s ask the animators and modelers who spent years on their work to alter it just for you.
Wings will be coming back, Anet didn’t troll you by reading your mind, thinking “gee, this guy will totally want this”, waiting until you left and then releasing it.
ppl can still see you because of floating damage numbers
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa-
New thief. Play first complain later.
They don’t see damage numbers when stealthed. Any implication that they see you is them guessing (successfully) where you are.
People can however see fire blast from fire sig and heal numbers (on them) if they have any heal on dmg trait/lifesteal food and their HP isn’t full.
Not defending Tempest, just throwing the info here.
This is very true!
However, both of those circumstances require a successful hit from a swing at an invisible target.
I’d like to add that thieves are toxic because any mistakes on their part can cause them to lose, and any successes on their part will cause them to be perceived as OP. (which is actually exemplified in the OP’s post). They’re either broken or useless, never seen as balanced (as long as stealth exists).
It’s quite the quandry. You fail and it’s expected, you do well and you’re a tall poppy that needs to be cut down to size so fighting you is fair.
That would make anyone sour over a period of time.
Not to mention that the narrowing ground of being an “average” or “okay” thief is due to the fact that the only thieves that are hard to fight are -really- good, and so their gameplay is setting the bar for nerfs to the class.
(Hell, thieves cant even use SA without being harassed).
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
So if I am following the logic of this post, the OP is offended by the perceived ugliness of the Black Feather Backpack and would like an check-box option to toggle off “show other players black wings”?
I just checked the wiki Backpiece page and it shows roughly 100 different backpieces; is it the OP’s suggestion to have option check boxes for each individual Backpiece option or toggle off everyone’s Back item across the board.
- if you wish each piece individually, that will be a bit of designing for each item in question and leave us with quite the list of check-box options to pick from.
- if you wish to turn them all off, that will certainly be easier from a programming point of view but then that bares the question…Where does it end?
- What if next someone doesn’t like a character’s gaudy helmet and those hideously offensive gloves, do we have check-boxes for them and so on and so on.
I wonder as to the realistic feasibility of this suggestion.
It’s not feasible, period. Part of the experience of MMORPGs includes putting up with people that have different tastes, cultures, likes, dislikes, and mentalities than you. If you dont like something they’re wearing but it does not violate ToS, there’s nothing you can do.
But hey, people can turn off their own wings. I bet they’d love you to ask them to do so to appease your sense of fashion, as previously stated.
Main selling point is to clutter screenspace of other players? Ok.
No, main selling point is to show your cosmetics to other people. If they can turn it off at will, why bother buying it?
The same argument could be used for gemstore armor skins.
But those can be turned off.
Backpieces shouldn’t get any special treatment.
Turned off by the person who bought them.
Just like wings can.
I’m entertained by the “I’m offended by immersion breaking wings” arguments, because I am almost certain several people of that mindset want SAB back.
While I think personally that the NPE is as much an insult to gamer intelligence as it is a hindrance to fluid progression for new players, I actually havent heard many complaints from brand new players about the experience, and get asked more questions about skills and traits from newer players.
The majority of people that seem to be complaining are players that were here when it wasn’t so gated, and the npe doesnt target them.
GW2 is still an excellent game, and people that didn’t know how it was initially seem to be dealing with it fine.
The profession, when played well is in need of a nerf.
I’m against your desire to nerf a class based on the potential it has when people take the time to master it, especially when it is much easier to be successful on several of the other aforementioned classes, in comparison.
The end goal of mastering a class should be excellence, not capped mediocrity.
That’s like telling an accomplished artist to tone down his skill so other artists don’t feel embarrassed.

And there is a 4th group: those with actual lives that didn’t see the announcement and didn’t log on yesterday, so missed out until who knows when (whenever they return)
Laugh all you like, but some of us have lives to live. Some don’t.
Having a life does not mean that you are not allowed to log on on March 3rd, 2015.
Or casually check the webpage for that matter.
Three groups of people.
You forgot the people cursing Anet for ever letting these wings rise from Orr.
Dont further the angree though. Just be content with what you bought.
I anticipated these threads with great eagerness.
Day of, too popular.
Day after, not enough.
Both points valid but still, entertained.
I mean, the game has always been catering towards players that can’t play 24/7, so why suddenly pull off something like that?
To keep things spicy
But in all seriousness they will be back.
I’m not sure I understand, are you asking, “Why doesn’t everybody keep up with the gems market and buy when it’s low in anticipation of things nobody knows about until they’re released?” Could it be that most people have actual things to do in their lives, and the exchange rate between 2 fake currencies is one of the last things on their minds?
Are you saying that
> see nothing popular in the gem store
> buy when price is low
requires a significant amount of forethought?
And to answer your question directly, no I am not saying that (if that was even directed at me).
But in all seriousness, I am not a gold conversion nut or whatever you’d call that; but common sense says that it would be best to keep a couple of gems on hand if you are playing the game, due to the fact that things like this happen.
Or at the very least, it would be common sense to expect that prices will go amg high if there’s a one day sale.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
People in general tend to do things at the last minute.
This. A common worldview is there’s always more time until there’s no time left.
Its why people get extensions on taxes, crowd grocery stores the hour before a snowstorm, and the like.
Wait did you really just say last minute, on an impromptu 1 day sale?
Wow.
A little note here: The span of the sale, while relevant, is not the sole factor that causes the spike in prices you see here to be due to “last minute buys” or not.
There was a very long period in which the gem store did not introduce anything particularly popular or interesting, where players that buy gems with gold could stockpile on the off chance that something like this did happen, not including those that were tipped off to the eventual surfacing of the wings in the gem store due to the data-mined splash screen of them. See Here: and take note of the relative stability of the market up until that point.
In that sense, “buying when something popular is already in the gem store”, which is actually every tuesday or every other tuesday since updates hapen then, counts as “last minute”.
Edit: And yes, as said above, if they are so off-put by the price spike that they would come to the forums to complain about it, a casual glancing at reddit re: whatever has been uncovered would save a lot of heartache.

I had a thief tell me how to play yesterday. He tried to prove his build by dueling people and lost several times, most times by wipe. He had some good suggestions, but I didnt take the ones that shoehorned me in to playing what he did.
Take all suggestions with a grain of salt. If something works for you, run it. The only reason the meta exists is because a better one hasnt been discovered.
Don’t be afraid to run a weird build if it helps you perform.
Why should Developers dictate the population? I don’t see Elementalists and Thiefs being de populated? Their still Top Guns!
Warriors offer the most bang for the least buck, and players dont like meticulously designing their glassy classes only to see them erased from existence by a player pressing 1 1 1 1 and then gloating when they down.
The problem is that Anet doesn’t make them more difficult to play, they just bubble wrap them until they hit softly enough to placate the aforementioned part of the community, which happens to leave them miserably low on the DPS table.
But hey, they have a high armor rating! That’s something, right?
And Healing Signet! never have to press 6 ever.
I don’t see any good players having issues with Warrior Pre nerf or post, Easiest animations to doge, and predictable, easily kited….
Exactly.
People in general tend to do things at the last minute.
This. A common worldview is there’s always more time until there’s no time left.
Its why people get extensions on taxes, crowd grocery stores the hour before a snowstorm, and the like.
As was already mentioned, The events for vinewrath are scaled up if people participate, and down if people are afking. Perhaps some further tweaking could be made to (and I can’t believe I’m saying this) make the meta easier, but the afking people in silverwastes are not to blame for the vinewrath failings.
The people actively doing the event on the map just are not performing to the scaling given by the game.
If that’s the case, then the people the OP needs to blame, or needs to report for causing the event to fail, are actually the people trying to do the event to begin with.
(Which, again as mentioned above, could consist of people who are down and wont WP, but that’s not reportable either.)
doable changes:
- remove auto healing when out of combat – this simple change should add much more strategy to game
- add at top UI, players profession miniatures, that shows down state and shows respawn time
- drop idea that pvp must be equaly the same as pve (skills, mechnics, skills etc.)
No to the first, yes to the second. Ehhhh on the third. I dont know how hard it would be for the devs to alter skills in the mists that wouldnt result in kitten you Muscle Memory
and cause more problems than it solved.
Roger that. How to counter silly cow character who thinks he can fly: Make Asura so he can’t tell what you are doing directly in front of him.
Character models.
If you aren’t having fun at a game, you need to leave.
are you kidding me do you need someone to tell you this
I’d understand if there was no incentive to entice you to dabble in the mists to begin with, but it seems like a stretch to ask for a reason to play when you aren’t even entertained to begin with.
Unless I misread.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
adjusts camera slightly
Also, “I don’t need to see, I look fabulous”
I’d like to remind you that you are proposing to report people from a game they bought for not doing anything in the game they bought.
But on the other hand, this is a game, and everyone plays to win. So with the regards towards the masses, Majority rules. If your not here to win, your not here at all.
Also, no. Your whole premise for this AFK report feature hinges on something that isn’t true. Some people play a game to entertain themselves, which may happen to include afking in Silverwastes.
You cannot criminalize the playstyle of one individual to benefit the playstyle of another. Find another way.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
There is nothing polluting or ridiculous about them aside from being too popular.
And, you know, heinously large and showy, at least for something that took zero imagination
You’re free to close your eyes, because we have worse options for back skins.
You cant report someone for not playing.
The most you can do is let them take the stack of [Dishonor] for being a jerk.
If they do it three times, the game bans them from pvp.
That’s the best way to address it. being AFK isnt worth a full ban.
it is not hard to lose 4v5 when entire team is chasing 1 guy on the beach in the forest half of the match……
Kinda like I jsut had a 4v5 with two thieves none of which were plus oneing fights, and all 4 of the members of my team bumrushed home, just to handle one guy. I swear if half the population knew what a proper flipping rotation was, this games pvp would be 100000x better.
Its not even a matter of knowing rotation, its common sense.
If you outnumber a team and want to win, stay on any points that are not yours. Eventually someone from opposite team will come to you.
losing 4v5 is a travesty. It means more people on your team were off point than the remainder of the 4 team were.
Which is a stupid possibility to think about.
I’m going to be blunt with you; everyone in the mists is salty to some degree.
Either they are lightly salted like a decent pretzel or downright Dead Sea toxic.
The bar for me is general team structure and personal state of mind.
If I have a good team, I’ll do ranked.
If I’m going with a pickup group, I’ll do ranked unless there are premades saturating the matches, at which point ill do unranked.
If I feel the toxicity of people screaming and not being heeded, people giving up and dancing at spawn or just otherwise dont feel up to the competitive air saturating ranked, I’ll do unranked and not give a kitten or duel.
It all depends on what you have, and what you can deal with, as a player.
Dont worry about player ranking/Titles. The people with high rank finishers are often bad players that have just been bad for a long time.
The people you should fear are players with Toymaker titles running deer or rabbit finishers.

most of the time when this happens to me, im guessing its because thr was a delay between u pressing the skill and the server receiving it and acknowledging it and u got downed during that delay. happens to me alot and when i get ressed, i realise EP cd wasn’t even activated. #asianpingproblems
Yep. If you dont have a CD on EP and you are rezzed within 60 seconds, you were downed before you popped it.
Not a bad core class.
The trouble is in the fact that only a couple of weapon combinations are well suited for commonly occurring situations, and the others are so specialized that they’d be borderline useless in most normal combat scenarios.
Isn’t it entirely possible there is a valid reason you FEEL stupid?
(I"m in no way implying the OP IS stupid, just that the act of spending gold to obtain this collection might not be the brightest move they ever made).
Blaming Anet for that feeling might fall into that category as well…..
Friend, I clarified the problem with assistance from others throughout this thread. Did you actually read and sort through the replies?
That’s another thing I dont get. If your opinion has changed or been refined in some way, you should take it upon yourself as the OP to note that in your original post.
You can’t blame someone for not sifting through responses to your thread on the off chance that you’ve changed your mind/clarified it.
Mawdrey was rather disappointing after I made it and realized it had a random daily limit of like 3-4 uses. I been often gathering Bloodstone Dust faster than it can eat. It will take months for it to eat everything. I also rarely get anything of real value from it so I don’t see why the limit is necessary: I want Mawdrey to be a gluttonous pig. We’ve yet to get a Dragonite devourer as well so that will be incredibly backed up the time it happens and take forever to feed upon. These mats are still out of control.
Throw some of it out…?
If all the avenues that generate this for you remain open, there’s no reason to hold onto so much of that stuff.
But it hasn’t been 24 hours yet. I thought the sale was supposed to end in 24 hours?
This is an interesting question.
I didn’t see any time limit on the Martial finisher, Just “Sale ending soon”!. If someone can confirm that it started 24 hours before the black wings went up, that would be great.
As long as I dont catch risen sharks.
No, it was only there for a day.
Same thing with the black wings.
500 gems for both.
Looks like there’s some sort of under-the-table flash sale going on.
They just release and we’re already getting people complaining about them? I’m honestly kind of surprised. But, anyway, Azure said it best up there. Those are your best options as of now, but if you have a suggestion, lay it out constructively and tell us how it would work! That way, we can all pitch in and make the suggestion better
a constructive suggestion ?
an option like this:
open menu -> options -> “show other players black wings” with a checkboxthat would be really neat
This sounds amazing.
tenouttaten.
My jaw dropped when I saw how many replies this post got. Most of them are pretty useless, which caters with an obsession toward wondering what type of person is so compelled to reply to every post like mine with the stock “your choice!” material.
I agree about the bandit collection. And, that one you can’t just buy on the TP.
I also appreciate the argument that the grawl reward is simply not high enough when compared to krait, hylek, and ogre.
As for those grinding the mats…I’m not convinced. I’m not unlucky. I would say it’s average. In two years, I’ve had some very cool drops such as an ascended staff with the stats I wanted. So, why only three large skulls in all of this time? Oh wait…I’m not killing enough grawl? Lol…it’s kinda’ hard to play every aspect of the game like I do and not kill your fair share of grawls. Ok, I don’t play the grawl fractal. So, are you saying that the vast majority of large skulls drop there? I’m just saying that if it takes three large skulls to craft one, and I’ve only obtained enough for one in two years…then either something is broken or the TP is flooded with duped god skull weapons, or the TP cost of both skulls and weapons should be much higher. Any other possibilities…constructive ones?
…Don’t do it?
I’m trying to understand why “Collect for collecting’s sake”, with Anet giving you a little congratulatory reward satchel of things for doing so is hard to grasp, or not the right angle to view these collection side-tasks.
Not everything is a carrot.
They just release and we’re already getting people complaining about them? I’m honestly kind of surprised. But, anyway, Azure said it best up there. I thought Azure was just being sarcastic. Either that or he just made really bad points :P
No idea what you’re talking about; I’m sure all of these people supporting the game and its developers for fluffy feather wings are a travesty.
Oh. You could also ask players to hide their wings because their sense of fashion is offensive to you.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
Sure you can.
If you’re in PVP, use basic character models.
If youre in PVE, jump to another map.
If you’re in WVW, server transfer.
I wish I could hide all the asura too, now that you mention it.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
I like that they don’t move. We have other wings in the game that move.
And there goes the last logic train in “I cant”, final destination “Even”
Actually I agree. I think it would be irritating for them to move, being that size.
On topic though: It’s fine. Movement would be nice, but still good.
Makes sense for something so overwhelmingly popular to be on sale for 24 hours.
I am impressed with the store trolling. small supply period so the game wont be saturated, and people that normally pay attention to the forums or the TP get a chance to grab them.
Hopefully they resurface; if not, that’s fine.
The collection tabs are for people that like collecting items, not for people looking to make a profit.
The collecting activity is the reward.
So it’s pseudo-defiance.
Neat.
I’d pay up to 100 gold for a skin I like. Anything above that isnt worth the money to me.
Ehhh.. Feline grace is useful, Quick pockets marginally so, but the other options are so much better across the board that there’s no real reason to actually run full acrobatics.
Could just take feline grace/fleet shadow, be good, and not need the rest.
And if he tries using SR when he has revealed on him instead of dodging, evading, porting, blinding, interrupting, etc. he made a stupid mistake.
I understand OPs frustration, but gonna have to agree with this. One of the first routines a thief should learn is checking status bar to see if he is currently revealed, which goes doubly so vs either Ranger or Engie.
If you try to SR when revealed that’s a mistake, not overwhelming unfairness, especially in the case of ranger and engie where you can just Dagger storm until not revealed or, in the event that said class is in your face, Black powder/infil arrow/shadow shot or any other port/blind/interrupt until you can stealth.
