With the broken logic that running around with your hands in the airplane shape is offensive because of the plane crashes that happened these couple weeks, I just have one thing to say. Using your own logic, you should not be allowed to use any melee weapon, especially rifles and pistols, because people around the world are killed daily because of them.

The only 2 weapons that wouldn’t be offensive are magical staffs and focuses because there are been no reported deaths due to these 2 weapons. Enjoy the game, the Anet teams are professionals at making April Fools fun and silly.

They should just release this every year on 9/11, I would laugh my butt off at all the kitten people.

So would I, considering this has absolutely nothing to do with 9/11. Nor is it related even remotely in anyway. I mean if just the plane reference is that much of an issue, then all flights should be grounded to make sure no one is potentially offended by seeing one.

LOL dude you are really a White Knight. Keep it up!

Yes, I’m a white knight because I have some god kitten common sense and I don’t let everything and anything offend me. Because I realize kitten happens, that’s life. The world doesn’t just stop because of it.

If that makes me a kitten, well then see my signature. At least I’m an honest kitten.

you talk a lot about “common sense”. I am not entirely sure you can define what that is but I am pretty sure you will try to convince every poster in this forum that you fight for it. Go White Knights!

If being aware that life is full of unpredictable events and that running around with arms outstretched making plane noises does not automatically mean you are mocking the lives of individuals who died in a plane crash, then sign me up for White Knight-hood.

My third aunt on my grand-cousin’s side was small in stature, had large ears and died horribly when an electric pole fell, the severed cable whipped through the air and hit her, electrocuting the poor thing on the spot.

Therefore, I demand that all asura characters and NPCs are henceforth unaffected by the spell Lightning Whip, as I find it triggering. Additionally, ANET needs to issue a public apology in the form of email, website announcement and a two-page spread in New York Times, as well as a personal apology to me.

Because a plane crashed in France, the April fools joke that Anet has been preparing well in advance cannot be about planes.

Also, because a plane crashed in france, it’s a good idea to log onto the internet and be offended that the world didn’t stop for the tragedy instead of doing something more productive for the victims, like donating to relieve the broken families the tragedy caused.

The forum reactions are the real joke today, fellas.

Really? Why don’t you log off instead if you do not want to hear other people’s opinions and impressions.

Not everyone have time to play all the time, every day. I have to work every day. Now, I found some time to play and this is what anet gives? Not to mention recent disasters….

What does an aviator cap and running around with arms outstretched have to do with a plane crash that was just gruesome enough to be mentioned in the news?

This whole thread is an april fools joke. I’m saddened that they tried to make something interesting, and people get so agitated that they can’t even appreciate it.

“Oh hey look a plane crashed, better not make plane noises”

The story was tragic. This has nothing to do with that except the subject matter.

Play whatever you want.

If it’s too hard for players to suck up, Anet will nerf it.

There’s something on every class that is too strong, too unpredictable or too convenient to be fair in the eyes of many players. Some players just haven’t learned that their class, inherently, is just a -bad matchup- versus specific builds. If you take every complaint to heart, you’ll end up complained out of doing anything at all in the game.

Play what works for you. Just be respectful to your opponents. If they dont like your x/x/x/x/x mainhand x offhand x build they can come here to be laughed at or request Anet nerf it.

Putting a computer together..

I’ve been plaing Gw on and off since 07, never being able to experience it fully because of low grade computer. I want to finally put my own PC together specifically for GW2/Gaming. What parts do you guys recommend? i wouldn’t want to waste more then $1,000 total. Is it possible?

I congratulate you on building your own computer. It’s an experience you wont forget anytime soon.

Only thing I recommend is pay decent attention to the graphics card and use benchmark test sites to balance cost and effectiveness. Don’t skimp on the card, but you don’t need to get the latest and greatest either. Card costs drop by half once they are a generation behind, and usually the performance gap is miniscule, so take advantage of that.

Build your computer around both the card and the processor with a compatible motherboard, and be sure your power source has enough overhead to not be maxed out when running your box. Do research on the wattage your components require, then buy a power supply that provides a modestly larger number than the component totals, so it won’t run hot.

Note: If i7 is too expensive for you, an unlocked i5 (has a K at the end of the model number) works well too, for less.

Sword – single target damage. target dodges, goes invisible. POINTLESS
Entangle – Thief and Mesmers completely immune to my control. POINTLESS

Everything quoted above is wrong.

your cleave still works on sword and greatsword.

Entangle does not require a target.

Instead of lamenting that players go invisible, wait for them to become visible (since they cannot attack you while invisible), then lay into them with root / [insert damaging skill here].

Lay traps. Use AOE skills. You have lots of things at your disposal. Learn to use them.

Is Dual Pistols Ever Viable PvE?

in Thief

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

P/P is extremely viable in pve, I dont know why people are saying it isnt.

Yes, you do have to tab target at early levels if you want to hit something in particular (and for those areas it might be better to use something with cleave like dagger or sword)

But eventually this becomes an option: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ricochet_%28trait%29

And with a high crit build it works very well at clearing groups of mobs with unload.

You -will- need to kite though. using p/p will take some judgement and you will need to slot a melee weapon for emergencies.

D/D. Is D/D decent for leveling? As in I won’t constantly be dying to anything more than 1-2 regular mobs?

I’d recommend S/D since D/D lacks mobility, or P/D for the on-demand retreat skill.

Azure The Heartless.3261

I run D/P, P/P On my thief.

Kiting isnt a must for pvp, but it’s nice to learn (and by nature of the game, sooner or later you will learn it).

Squishtastic, yes, but not very difficult to level up. Lots of the weapon skills either deal blind or grant evasion frames/ dazes as said above, which means the enemies apart from defiant bosses (which are normally slow) will not get many chances to hit you.

Build semi tanky on top of that and it might be a very enjoyable experience from 1-80.

Guardian is a nice choice too, though. Flip a coin.

So if you look at the both proffession and what they can achieve while how much skill or action they require to work, you should be accepting the fact that thieves stay far behind the warrior.

You’re close to, but missing the point of what many people are trying to explain to you.

On the surface, yes: Thieves stay far behind the warrior. What the posters against you are trying to mention, though, is that that is not always the case, and in the sense of high tier play, never the case.

While the fact that dps guard is a no-contest against thief and -that- needs to be addressed, it should not be done in a damage buff against the thief. Versus Warrior, Thieves have both a lower skill floor and an exponentially high skill ceiling, which means that worse thief players will suffer against the warrior, and better players will carve them up like swiss cheese.

Average thieves can and will lose to Average (and in some cases, poor) warriors, but even exceptional warriors are heavily limited by their core class concepts and will be easily read and subsequently ruined by exceptional thieves.

Adding damage to thieves will only widen the gap on the already monumental skill ceiling thieves enjoy.

On another note, it’s difficult to argue against one shots, due to the fact toughness and vitality are stats widely available, but often foregone by many classes, and running without toughness should carry the risk of being insta-melted with it.

Please end this macro instruments.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Azure The Heartless.3261

I play by hand, and composed a rendition of “Fear not This Night” by ear.

I really don’t care who uses macros or not. There are people that enjoy music no matter how it’s composed, people who prefer the hard work of a hand-played piece, and people that prefer perfection made possible by a macro over human error/personality handplaying can infuse into a song. There are still others that use macros to play songs that are virtually impossible to play with the current octave switches.

It’s impossible to draw a line that reasonably defines where any of this becomes wrong or detrimental to the perceived value of normal players.

Just keep playing by hand. Focus on your quality, your flavor and your style. That will draw people to you. If you think macro players are a travesty, and yet you want the attention of the people they attract, then your desperation for recognition is overshadowing your desire to create in the way you feel is right.

Personally I think auto-playing is like having artwork drawn on your behalf. It isnt really yours, but that doesn’t make it less pretty. Unless, you know, you built the macro. But I don’t assume anyone dedicated enough to build a flawless macro wouldn’t value hand playing.

Note: Ask a macro player to hand play a melody for you if you doubt their musical prowess. You’d be surprised how many of them actually are quite skilled.

If a proffesion is harder to play than some other proffesion yet they are equally powerful, then they are not so equal at all.

Thief requires > Lightning reflexes, (try dodging with 400 latency.) ability to see what everyone is doing in 1500 range of you at the same time and/or lucky dodges. Pray that you don’t die to some lucky yet deadly instant cast AoE attack while you are in stealth.

?

4 pages of this because you lag?

If you have latency issues and that makes playing a thief abysmally hard for you, why not just roll a warrior instead of trying to imply that something is fundamentally wrong with the class?

That aside, with latency or not. Dodging is still harder than facerolling your opponent.

Going to address this for now.

Objectively, no it isnt. And when you speak about facerolling and dodging, take into account that these have relevancy related to your class.

Knowing when to dodge is more of a core mechanic for thieves than it is a core mechanic for warriors. Granted, dodging is a core mechanic for all classes, but it has more impact and centrality to the thief playstyle. This does not make the actual class harder or easier to play, there is just more weight centered on evasion.

staying on your opponent is also a playstyle. Warriors have little to no evades, and they usually have their builds centered around damage soaking in exchange for being slow and having their most damaging skills come with a huge windup.

but you knew that.

I don’t think thieves need a damage buff to compensate for this reliance. they already have access to several defensive measures that make it difficult to target them, and good thieves can get the drop on you and escape almost as easily. The worst thing anet could do to thief in terms of balancing is make it possible for them to down heavies from out of nowhere in a couple of seconds if they aren’t full glass. They’d go from being ‘potentially op’ to just plain broken.

Slaughtering bandits is okay but having a verbal insult uttered within earshot is a travesty.

I’m not against being panicked or squicked by anything in game. For instance, I have galeophobia and am panicky when I need to swim anywhere sharks spawn in the game (especially champion ones.)

At the same time, it’s a game. The sharks aren’t real, and I can quit any time I want. The developers spent a lot of time modeling them and they make up a nice part of the underwater scenery. I still dislike them, but I wouldn’t be so audacious and self-serving that I’d ask them to remove them for the sake of people frightened by their very existence.

Grind is still grind

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azure The Heartless.3261

Azure The Heartless.3261

I read very little of the larger debates in this thread, but it seems like several people are confusing the burned out, frustrated sensations they experience when working really hard for gold, cosmetics, or whatever else they want in the game by repeating dungeons, farming locations, or other events ad nauseam with the symptoms of grind.

They’re absolutely right, in the simplest sense. They are grinding, the frustration they possess does come from a grind. Grind -does- exist in GW2. However, it was not placed there by the developers. The grind the aforementioned players are experiencing is brought upon largely by themselves and general unwillingness to slow down and enjoy the game for what it is in order to achieve faster rewards.

Tired of farming X map? Go do something else. virtually everything in this game throws money at you, from harvesting onions to going deep-sea fishing for certain drops in Southsun. When you’re tired of it, go someplace else. Do an event. Party with someone. Mix it up.

Tired of completing the entire world for that gift? Take it easy. Listen to the npc dialogue. Go someplace you’ve been before and stop pressing for completion when it’s no longer fun. Go play on the underwater organ or something. Your legendary isnt a limited edition drop (And the limited edition things, for that matter, are -easy- to get)., you’ll get it when you get it. I don’t think its fair to the developers to place the general unhappiness of the grinding community on them. It isn’t largely grind by design, it’s grind by method and the desire for what is as close to instant gratification as possible. Yes, precursors being rng is a travesty, but it’s being worked on.

Play the game. Play the market. Go see what people are doing. If you feel like the game is work, you’re doing it wrong. After all, what are you gonna do once you get twilight? swing it around for a month then quit?

Adding more avenues for grind wont fix it. Farming faster wont fix it. Fixing the matter of grind and general reward pacing requires a little wit and willingness to explore the nooks and crannies of the map for the drops that people -want- on the tp, but are not being provided. Everyone’s at the train, everyone’s at the world bosses; getting the same loot and trying to sell it even though the saturation is making that process hardly lucrative for the time and monotony involved.

I might even dare to say that people feeling that there -is- a grind actually do need to L2P. In the greatest sense of the phrase.

Otherwise, ignore it. Events get scaled down based on who is actually participating.

Here is what matters. Has anyone actually been banned for afking in PvP?

Iunno. Seems like a stretch to get outright banned for. The game gives you a stack of dishonor for doing it anyway.

At some point it does become disruption of gameplay, though. Where the line is drawn is beyond me, but if you catch a supsension or something for it GL appealing if they have several dozen people reporting you for doing it often.

And you are allowed to report it, which is the point of the thread here.

Keeping such games on PC dictates a certain demographic of player and quality of game. Imagine….just for a second….console players having access to this game…..

Not all console-only players are bad. Only most of them.

But I don’t think there’s a console out right now that can handle the demands of GW2, and certainly don’t think theres a controller that can accommodate a full skill bar.

Don’t think it would be worth the venture to give players low quality, crippled access to a game that’s already well established on PC.

Downstate and pvp. Opinions please

I think it’s easy to say something is unbalanced at a first glance, but when you really start to see the intricacies of the downed state, you see that it allows for a lot of really cool things. I’d say the only thing I don’t like about the downed state is necro downed state skills and bleeding people out. Otherwise, builds like 100 mines wouldn’t exist (BEST BUILD EVER) because it does way too much damage and it would insta kill people, rather than insta down people.

Not only is downed state not killing PvP, I think it is what defines PvP. How well you handle your team going down changes absolutely everything. A team that was ahead and decides to go for a multi-res could completely wipe, thus turning the game around. Decided between DPSing the enemy down to get a rally, resing an ally or interrupting a stomp is a huge decision and one that takes a lot of understanding of the game and quick thinking.

+1

Glad that some people can see it as another layer of gameplay and not a block to existing gameplay.

Black Feather Wings

It’s an aesthetic money grubber in a game where you can’t actually fly. The irony is that for me personally they represent a huge “I’m a moron” sign over most players heads. I’ve seen a handful of players rocking them that look awesome, it clearly suits that character and theme but for most it’s just a “look at me…I got the new skin” sign.

Sorry to hear it’s a frustration OP but they will be old hat next month.

Yes. In a month or so only the people that require them to tie together an outfit will be wearing them. Theyll also be back.

They’re also part of the old GW1 Raiment of the Lich skin, so this isnt the first time player characters have ever had wings in Guild Wars.

Chill out, let people enjoy what they want instead of asking the devs to do more work so they can undo the work they already did so you don’t have to waste the monitor pixels rendering them for 5-10 seconds depending on how long you look before you turn away in disgust.

curb cheap stomp tactics

in PvP

Azure The Heartless.3261

I\
Stealth is , most broken of all, as characters who can’t see stomper can’t target him with their skills. And that wouldn’t be half as bad if in such situation they could at least cast those skills at spot of their choosing or around themselves if it’s aoe (yup talking ranger’s thunderclap). But no. 100% kill. Sure eles, thieves and mesmers can move out of stomping zone before it lands. But what about rest of professions? Though luck! And unlike others mentioned here, stealth is dirt cheap in terms of downtime, to a point even longbow rangers can use it without a single worry in the world.

So please a-net, take a look at this and curb this to a point where ensuring a successful stomp require some thought and successful struggle between defender and attacker, and not just one button press after “F”.

Okay, but also nerf signet of stone and bodyblocking pets.

Thanks.

Power Block and Thieves

I told you, forum thieves are incapable of constructive talks.
Appeals for talks are considered as threats to their class

Well, this subject only targets thieves by circumventing the normal operation of their class skills for the sake of one trait’s perceived inconsistency, so it is a threat to some people.

Add that to the fact that thieves get hit with the nerf stick constantly and you better be prepared to defend anything that cripples them further.

This is hardly a constructive topic, the main point of the whole thing is “I’m confused as to why a class that has its skills not centered around cooldowns don’t get a cooldown Specifically for my classes trait when I interrupt them. The trait is broken because thief (and only thief) weapon skills don’t get a cooldown introduced when I interrupt them, fix it. (even though the utility skills -and- healing skill does)”

Exactly the point. Then why dont you guys suggest another alternative? Since you guys are right, you dont have cds, then cant you suggest any other way for this trait then?

Then this thread will be constructive then.

Instead of acting all defensive and all that. Noone is asking to nerf thieves. Jeezus.

Just have power block initiate a short daze on a small internal cooldown (15-25) when interrupted (consideration given to the animation length of interrupts such as cc)

Then everyone gets the (cooldown) thing without having to rewire stuff.

Thank you azure. How long is the daze tho?

No idea. As long as it doesn’t allow stunlocking, it’s fine. I’m partial to ChaosAngel’s idea.

Interrupts can place a token on your opponents bar (like Sigil of Doom) that expires in 5-10 or so seconds, and causes a [x] daze if a skill is used while the token is applied.

I don’t need muscle memory getting in the way of my rotations because suddenly my shadow shot has a CD. If there’s a daze, I can accept that since I can react to that more reliably.

Well, Power Block could just give 5s cd to thief weapon skills. This way it would simply add +5s to the normal interrupted cd (which is 5s for every other class, 0s for thief) and would actually do something.

[Edited] Unless the calculation is not done specifically for thieves.

Concession on the exception (though the literal value of whatever the thief cooldown is was not what I was getting at).

Their skills spend from the initiative pool before they are used, so again, adding cd to that would be doubly punishing the thief.

It doesnt make sense for a thief to spend initiative to use an attack, get interrupted, and then have that skill set on CD for 10 seconds. That would be doubly punishing the thief.

If you’d like to propose a way to refund initiative on interrupted attacks since that mechanic is necessary for -all- thief left-bar skills, then perhaps it would be considerable.

Apart from that, no thanks.

Besides, cooldown for thief skills is not 0, it is null. It doesnt exist. You cant add time to null.
