I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
You’re correct. The preferred term is “mouse”.
I don’t even bother with scraps.
If a skin comes out that I want, I just wait until the market is saturated with them and then buy them for less than I would have spent (Assuming I get one scrap a box which is a stretch) on keys.
I’d buy boxes if the chance for scraps (or even outright tickets) was high enough to weigh against just getting the skins once the market is full of sellers, but right now, nah. Too expensive.
Grind is mandatory, farming is not.
I’m having trouble understanding why people don’t get this.
Grinding is an action you must take in order to progress within the game.
Farming is an action you may elect to do or not to do, at the cost of personal benefit that would otherwise be nonessential.
Killing the same mob over and over again because its the highest level mob and you need the EXP to level is a grind.
Killing that same mob over and over because it has a tiny chance to drop a shiny weapon that is marginally superior to other weapons, but is not required to function is Farming.
One situation the game makes you do, the other situation you make yourself do.
Precursor -> legendary building is not a grind. It’s tedious, but at any point you can say “F*** this”, buy a moonshank/pearl broadsword/shield/[insert item here] from the market, slap sigils on it, and go jump right into wvw or pve and perform just as well as or outperform people who spent the time putting together those weapons without a need for excessive training to make up for dps differences.
If at any point, you can put a task down and not be punished by falling backward on the competency level with which you are able to perform content and enjoy the game in general, your task is elective farming and not a grind.
Once your focus becomes centered on cosmetic more than performance/completing content, chances are you will need more to keep you occupied. That’s why the nonfunctional skins/finishers/etc are all behind a gem or questwall. They are not necessary for play, they are farming rewards.
And even with that being said, you could easily just go “hey, I wanna go loaf around the world and do absolutely silly things” and still get the cash needed to get that scarf or w/e you wanted eventually.

I don’t have to be a fanboy to love this game.
+1
Two things.
The game was always b2p. 40 bucks to even get in.
Most people on the forums are here because they are unhappy about something pertaining to the game, so the majority of opinions you see will be negative.
There are many thousands more players that have just started, have been here for 2+ years, and everything in between that are happily zerging along/enjoying the game with their friends/dueling. Don’t gauge the health of the game by what we say here; we’re generally irritated. All the people with positive reviews are currently enjoying the content (with a small outlier perusing the forums at work).
Pretty sure Anet has learned how to sift through our general angst for honest critique by now, too.
If I had to start over? Yes and no. I like the game, but I’m going to be pretty miffed (and probably quit) if all of the equipment and etc. I worked for were suddenly removed. I’m not diehard, but I’m content with what they’re providing so far. It’s leagues above many other mmos that launch decades old engines with glossy graphics paint and market their games as new and innovative when they’re not.
Anet has my attention because they think outside the box and challenge what MMO perceived conventions are. And if I wanna drop off for a month and go play Warframe? No sub fee. Come back whenever. Dont even worry about getting left behind. Most youll miss is a really pretty/nice sounding trinket that you could have gotten if you were paying attention to Dulfy.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
Every class is going to be complained about until we are all pvping with sticks and rocks.
Anet has a habit of not listening to the heated cries for nerfs for class X without giving some kind of compensatory buff, though. Lots of people here think that the class they don’t play is overpowered, while their similarly viewed-as overpowered class is balanced.
Lb has no mobility for what it offers. Reflect it or get close. It’s too glassy to be giving people this much trouble.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
It’s difficult but rewarding to play now. If you come back dont get comfortable, specs are being reworked soon.
cant you just not equip the chronomancer utilities?
You can, but it would be quite weird when you wanna specialize but dont wanna use specialization based utilities right? I mean shouldn’t you make the most out of it?
People who make the most of things are banned in pvp.
Also, there may be some cases in which normal mes skills may prove to make a powerful build w/o offhand shield.
… you arrive in mid in forest and then die 3v1 while your team kills your animal (which gets stolen by the enemy thief).
You should be allowed to quit penalty free if this happens
I think a sad trumpet should play a mournful tune while it’s replayed in grainy black and white.

The real mesmer is the one that:
- Is not transparent
- Comes out of stealth
- Strafes
- Dodges
- Has signets (if the mesmer is using signets)
- Has stacks of bloodlust/perception etc. (if the mesmer is using stacking sigils)
- Has the most boons

Lmfao rewinding down state?
Here we go
As the F-Skills are locked in downstate I don`t think you can rewind from there, as it is a manual trigger.
there might be a trait, though…Otherwise it`s a good tactical device, similiar to the death shroud.
It’s not a manual trigger!
When you use Continuum Split .. When this duration is over, they’ll revert back to the location where the skill was first activated.
If that skill continues to be active on down, we’re talking about negating down state.
Edit:
“Here’s where things get fun. Shifting back to the original timeline reverts the chronomancer’s health, endurance, and all cooldowns (yes, even the elite skill)”
Free double elite? I’m in tears
All mesmers are now princes of persia
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
The new theif will be absolute cancer unless they do something with the other zerk classes. Or give the other zerk classes another option.
Chronomancer.
Just make Watchwork Mining Pick Limited edition, like the Silver salvage o matic.
This may sound weird, but could there be an option to toggle off the wiggling of the reward chests that appear above the minimap in the bottom right corner? Sometimes I just don’t want to collect the rewards on the character I’m on and the wiggling can become distracting. It’s obviously designed to draw attention and that’s not necessary sometimes.
I cant even sometimes. Yknow?
Its just so hard to even sometimes, on these forums.
Wells sound like they might be the answer to giving Mesmer a little better AoE capability in zergy situations.
I bet F5 rewind is going to feel really trolly on the receiving end. Kamikaze mesmer leaps into the fray then is suddenly back at start with full health and reset cooldowns.
Lmao
top tier evasion for WVW, jump off cliff, reset
Lmfao rewinding down state?
Here we go
Confirmed, Chronomancer will be next hated. Mark my words. :P
Bad ones might be a joke, but good ones will likely ruin lives.
We have 7 more elites on the way.
I’m not even going to try to theorycraft. The depth of PVP is going to be ridiculously abyssal by the time this is all in place.
Chronomancer revealed for mesmer, I dont think we need to be pushing for nerfs on anyone just yet.
For thief, it’s different story. They have all the good offensive traits merged into deadly art, and all the good defensive traits merged into SA and Acro, and all the utility traits merged into trickery. Basically all thieves will just pick SA + Deadly Art + one other trait that’s not critical strike. (Unless they’re doing PVE) That’s like making ONE choice only.. (pick trickery or acro and there you go)
How’s this balance?
SA, Acro, and trickery had those specific features before. Merging Executioner into deadly arts was surprising, but DA also has trap utility instead of just flat damage, and is centered around one particular condition that can be removed. Numbers can be adjusted on Executioner damage and the like, but it fits where it is atm.
I need to see how it performs compared to the other players before I am convinced that there is nerfing required. I have nothing against nerfs if we need them, because I have to fight thieves too. Gutting them right out of the gate should be held off on though.
Keep in mind everyone else got significant power buffs.
Except Necros“Those thief folks” arent rejecting how op they’d become, they’re rejecting the flagrant calls for nerfs from people who do not play the class, even in the face of heavy trait improvements for the other classes, before the patch even drops, even though the devs said they’d see how it goes and play with the numbers once play produces some data.
>Nobody talking about Merciless Hammer
>Lets remove all the defense thieves are about to get for standing in a circleI already said it before, now’s the ONLY CHANCE to get feedback. If those changes went live, it’d take another half year for Anet to “fix” these problems.
They said specifically that they’d be playing with the numbers after shipping, and that they’d be working on them up to shipping. I’m sure there are going to be several classes with glaring issues, and bubble-wrapping thief out of the gate due to presumed delay in rebalancing could just as easily put them at a disadvantage for that long.
Keep in mind everyone else got significant power buffs.
Except Necros((Necromatic corruption))

Becoming op is up for debate. Every other class is getting stark synergy traitwise, and the outcome of the sweeping buffs could easily make SA required for survival.

Wait. Not even!
It’s the melee rangers that are the strongest spec for 1v1’ing:Man, and ANet’s giving buffs to both necros and rangers. We should go and raise awareness about how OP those classes are.
No, that’s just Charrmagedon/GW Fox.
He needs a nerf.
learn to play and fight
Funny to say that when SR is such a crutch in it’s current state allready.
They’re making a pretty overpowered trait more overpowered than it is allready. Unlike the invulnerabilities etc. that Guardians and Warriors and the likes have, this trait makes one quite litterally unbeatable when played well.
The issue with SR is, is that it promotes passive playing quite a bit.
I’d like to see the health regen coming from it heavily reduced. Maybe then we’ll see it being unbanned from the 1v1 arenas and all that.Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that Thieves get something we’ll recieve more salt and QQ for again.
But to be fair, the trait is most definitly OP, making bad players seem like good players and making good players close to invincible unless they get pretty heavily outnumbered. So yeah, I do understand where all the ranting is coming from.
Besides, it’s not like you need it… I play S/D (2/0/0/6/6), D/P (2/6/0/0/6) and D/D (4/6/4/0/0) and do quite fine provided I don’t do anything stupid. The Condi cleansing (and blinds for D/D survival) is/are great, but the initiative regen and health regen are just… meh. Let alone when they are combined…Oh well… I supose the update ( in case this stays unchanged) will actually make Thief a newbie friendly class. But I really think that atleast the health regen could do with a bit of a stomp.
+1 to this post.
After the patch, a condition thief who takes SA, Acro, and Trcikery are basically invincible in WvW. The old one is already near invincible and can easily 1 v X if the opponent doesn’t has sick-em ranger.
(Before you ask, they usually pick Dire gears, so they’re NOT squishy at all)Add this new change in SA, Acro and Trickery in it and see how it becomes God.
They can even apply way more confusion than it currently does after the change. (Even shorter steal cd, free 5 stacks of confusion unconditionally, add that to perplex rune)There’s 0 chance for anyone to kill it/ beat it 1 v 1 in a WvW situation under the new change, unless the thief himself is terrible. Ppl who doubt me probably didn’t roam in WvW enough. Dire perplex thief is close to the strongest spec 1 v 1 in WvW currently.
+1 to this. As far as condi synergy works with the lines listed above, This could and should be nerfed.
Regarding the Resilience specifically though, it’s a welcome addition for less passive builds. I’m against a nerf to that especially with infusion dropped, but something can be looked at regarding the above posted build.
I’m currently running D/P 2/0/0/6/6, and buffs to survivability are foremost for me especially since feline grace now grants a removable boon on successful evade instead of plain dodge. SA line needs some polishing as far as making it 1v1 worthy, but dropping infusion was a step in the right direction, as is resilience.
Also, everyone’s broken in WVW, with foods. I’m looking at this from flat pvp perspective.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
It’s SR + RoS as a minor trait that’s making this obscene. The thief while in stealth becomes the tankiest class in the game with this change.
A thief in stealth is a thief who isn’t doing anything. A thief who stealths his teammates to utilize this -50% damage is a thief finally bringing something to the table groupwise
Also remember a thief running 20k hps and 3k armor is still squishy as kitten.
Surprise, thief can grant stealth to other people too, granting all these magic buffs to everyone inside their stealth. (rejuv heal, free regen, SR heal, cleanse, -50% damage)
Since thief doesn’t need to make choice at all, everyone is getting that magic new SA benefit!
They’re getting it as long as they aren’t doing anything.
Any outgoing damage returns defense to normal. It makes escapes and repositioning easier, but has no real significance outside of that.
It’s a good solution to thieves that SR close to a group of enemies and get the hell bombed out of them, especially with infusion of shadows being dropped and stealths being needed to recharge.

+1 to toggle.
There is no hell on GW2 that is like the hell of standing next to someone with Mini karka hatchlings.
This, in addition to work Arenanet will need to put in to ensure that their game plays nice with the overlay makes this a pointless venture.
GW 2 already works perfectly well with the steam overlay. I use it often when I want to take and share screenshots with others.
Indeed it does, but updates on either end may require tweaking or overhauls in the future. Just because it works now doesn’t mean it always will, and that will have to be addressed if Anet decides to offer it through Steam.
I beat players with ascended armor in WVW with my meager Exotics.
When I suddenly have the materials I need as a result of playing the game, I will put them into ascended armor as a material sink.
Not needed. Don’t care~
Protip: Forcing yourself to not have fun in a game so you can get the best X in the game by your perception is not a grind. It’s you sucking the fun out of your life.
Quit it. Because when you suck the fun out of your life and have your brand new shiny as a result of churning through all the content, then you suck the fun out of everyone elses life by complaining that there’s nothing to do.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
Why would they put GW2 on Steam and force themselves to give money to Valve? There is literally no benefit for anyone except Valve.
This, in addition to work Arenanet will need to put in to ensure that their game plays nice with the overlay makes this a pointless venture.

This is a flagrant double standard. At this point, we need to do one of two things:
- Immediately restore the human female idle animations
- or -
- Immediately remove mini pets from the game until they can be “fixed” to behave properly during cutscenes.
Bring back the animations! ’Nuff said.
Uh?
Minis are optional items that are often designed to be silly.
I don’t see how someone having one out that happens to mess with the mood of the setting is as weighty an issue as having the player character, which is mandatory, react poorly to the mood of the setting.
I understand the animations need to be fixed, but thats a reallllly huge leap to try to make your point.
No it’s not. It’s exactly the same thing. Whether it’s the silly minis ruining the immersion or a stretch or some tree branch being in the wrong spot. It’s the same thing. The player character did not react poorly to anything, it (just like Kasmeer and other npcs were) was playing out an idle animation while being idle. In a scripted cutscene. That you watch once, maybe twice. Then you are done. Not bothered by it anymore. But you are standing idle elsewhere more often than being in that one particular godkitten ed kittening cutscene.
But if the mini aggravates you, you can turn it off. That’s the difference I’m pointing at.
Then Anet should force minis to be disabled, since they want to be authoritarian about the whole issue of their cinematics. God forbid their “precious” cutscenes be ruined by immersion!
I just find it amateurish that they would remove them without even having a fix planned, especially since it was never game-breaking.
But… the player can do it if it breaks immersion for them.
Why would they force minis to be disabled if the player can do it themselves?
Granted, they should just put it back.

Since it’s not final, NOW IS THE ONLY CHANCE TO GIVE FEEDBACK BEFORE ANET ROLLED OUT THIS OP STUFF.
If we wait til it comes out, it’ll take another HALF YEAR for Anet to rebalance all these newly over-buffed traits.
I do not care about what you thieves trying to protect your new OP specs, I’m here to give feedback and raise awareness, that is all.
Let me repeat, the current thief is overall balanced, the new one is not. You guys know it better, but ofc you want to enjoy your OP specs, so you pretend that you don’t know it.
Have you ever played thief?
If not, what do you propose we get in response to the current pending buffs for every other class?
If so, I’d like to buy what you’re smoking.

@ Toxsa.2701
I did the same thing you just did a while back, came into the thief forum and ran my mouth like an idiot about how OP thieves were because of stealth and damage and so on.
I got challenged to roll one, they are not that OP and can be very difficult to keep alive.
The biggest difference in this class than any other class in game is the active defense it has. It has the best active defense than any other class.
It has zero passive defense except on boon steals and the boons from stolen goods(mesmer only), so all defense is a challenge.
No stab, hardly any condi clear, thieves do a lot of damage and still will, but its still an active defense profession and will stay that way.
And if you look through this forum right now, you will see a lot of people complaining about the hits to that active defense they are taking.
Trust the people that play thieves, they are complaining because they know what it will do.
This. this this this.
It’s mildly annoying when people read the patch notes and then go ranting about how stupid op the class is, and have never even played it. They are very high tension and difficult to sustain, and they need some assistance.
That being said, if you’re looking for a buff, Asking that another class be nerfed is the last thing you should be doing.
Those complaining about thieves obviously don’t play thief"
This, maybe with an addition of not knowing what to do when a thief Shadow Refuges.
Surprise surprise. after the patch thief has an auto stunbreak on a 30 sec cd if they choose Acro.
There’s 0 chance of dpsing them to death while they’re in SR now thanks to -50% damage, cleanse, ~600 hp per sec (SR healing included), auto prevent CC. You can also pop your heal skill if you know how to cancel the animation of backtrack rolling.
Dpsing to death will be harder, but not 0. Dps will still be effective on thief in SR. CC will be available if they have been cc’d within the past 30 seconds.
It’s not stupid broken. You either melt all the hp they gain from SR or you cc them before they SR so Fear me, Illusion wave, Howl, Pulls, launches work.
It’s harder, but the extra defense is a nice plus since SR is a big “Thief lies here” sign.

EX:
If someone complains that their player character is ruining the game immersion, Anet cannot do anything but fix the animation if they think that the immersion being ruined is a real and serious issue.
If someone complains that their mini is ruining immersion, Anet can just tell them to turn it off.
One situation is the player not having a choice to fix their own problem, and the other is.
I understand the animations need to be fixed, but thats a reallllly huge leap to try to make your point. I’m sorry Anet decided to listen to someone being so picky about idle animations breaking immersion and resolve it by just making the character less expressive.

dodging, evading, blocking and similar skills are very powerful and after you played enough and learned the mechanics of the mobs, you’ll automatically go for more power and ditch passive defense stats.
I started as a power, toughness, vitality ele and now I’m running all pve with a glass build. This works very well against dumb NPCs, but it’ll utterly fail in wvw or pvp.
That’s not incompatible with OP’s suggestion, which doesn’t rule out the possibility of armor that offers no Toughness or Vitality, but instead provides increased Endurance regeneration or Condition reduction.
I’d just like to note that Endurance Regen and Condition Reduction are both passive defense stats.
So a person in Toughness/Vitality armor would deal the same amount of damage as someone in Endurance/Condition Reduction armor (provided they’re both using identical Zerk weapons), but the difference would be in their play style: the former will be dodging less and picking utilities to cleanse conditions and heal because they’re taking the hits, while the latter will be dodging like a monkey and picking damage boosting utilities.
This is true, but isnt that mostly how it is now? The only difference is now utilities make up for the damage difference.
It sounds ~alright~ in theory, but even at face value allowing the armor set to help determine stats would allow greater variation in build development, instead of reducing it to a set of four skills on your skill bar.
This works very well against dumb NPCs, but it’ll utterly fail in wvw or pvp.
You’d be surprised what you can do with a glass build competitively.
And as a final note, all armor, regardless of what secondary stats they give based on name, provide a baseline defense armor rating that is universal for that armor weight. The secondary stats are just tacked onto that.

How are they going to stop people getting more than one invite dropped from mobs?
And if some one does get two, or more, I hope that they are not sellable on the market because I could see them going for insane amounts of gold.
I wish they would be bold enough to allow key sales.
I’d be much more interested in this.
$250 worth of prizes? Are you guys going broke or just really cheap
Yes, of course they should spend millions on a single contest rather then spending those money on resources for the game…
This is why we can’t have nice things. People will complain about every single thing.
Where did I say they should spend millions? Some people are content with nothing and anyone who thinks $250 is a valid prize is crazy hell they have better prizes in primary school give aways or anywhere I guess where u come from everyone is cheap so it’ must be acceptable otherwise I don’t understand your logic
Please remember that you only answered 10 questions. You did not win a tournament or something else that took more than 5 mins worth of effort.
Also, if you look again, the prizes total are not to exceed that amount. that’s up to 25 bucks per player chosen.
With all the “reasons” given for why Turret Engi was/is a bad build, how does Pew Pew Rangers not teach a similar bad behavior? This past match the enemy teams top personal scorer was a Ranger that camped LB the entire match. That’s all he did was sit behind his teammates at max ranger and pew pew away. He probably looks at that score and believes he’s contributing the most.
Pew Pew rangers can only sting with RF if they are made of glass.
Seeing as how staying alive while made of glass means staying out of combat range as best as possible and immediately addressing anyone within 300m of you, Rangers cannot contest points and thus are useless when it comes to contributing to anything beyond single player kills.
Add that to the fact that they get focused after the third or so player they kill and can have their damage reflected by almost every other class, and their benefits are short lived.
Turret engies reward you for staying in one place. That one place can easily be a point, which means you’re actively contributing for doing relatively nothing but plonking your turrets on a site and sitting there.
It should be buffed to cause stomps to miss.
It’s hilarious because they buffed the hell out of Thief Initiative regen a few months back, I guess in an attempt to improve general Thief usability. Just shows the balance people really have no clue what they’re doing.
Because adjusting something after probably tweaking it too far means they have no clue what they’re doing.
If it’s broken, complain. I got by fine on kleptomaniac and preparedness alone. I’m fine with them trying to choke out permastealth.
Looks like Silverwastes and Dry Top will be humming with players!
ArenaNet: “We don’t want players to grind!”
ArenaNet: “Oh, and if you want early access to the expansion, just grind the grindiest map in the game over and over! If RNG favors you, you will get an invite!”
I guess we know what kind of content the expansion will have, if even the beta invites are hidden behind a grind wall.
Or you can just get some friends and go hang out in Silverwastes instead of turning the game into a job for a drop you might not even get no matter how hard you try and then calling it a grind.
A grind produces a result after a specific time; this will not.
