As a warrior main, I cannot deny that this is hilarious on both avenues.

@Zeft, I 100% understand what your saying. There are facets of the Thief abilities that don’t make sense. I think you should be revealed by using an interface like stomping. I don’t think you should be able to stealth stomp.
However, In my interest of learning how thieves work I, who normally plays necro/mediguard , started running a thief for a while in WvW and PvP to get a feel for what thier abilities are and how to counter them. I had always lived under the belief that Stealth was like this be all end all that would save me.
It doesn’t and, more to the point I was shocked by how low their health pool is, how hard it is sometimes to land hits ect. Now, I am no master thief, and thief is not a profession I am currently interested in. I mainly wanted to understand it so I could combat it. But, I think I can say safely that there are areas of thief that need help, that need change to improve thier QOL, meanwhile there are other areas that are not counterable, and could use rework.
However, this is the case for almost every class except a few. The thing that people don’t realize is that high damage classes may seem easy with no skill to play and do damage but, they actually take ALOT of skill to survive on.

We constantly dance a razor edge to do anything at all. Our health pool is erased with relatively minimal effort, so the seemingly numerous escapes and uncounterable stealths are necessary for us to be even marginally useful as a class. I am willing to take added risk in reveals on whiffs or blocks, because that seems like a reasonable situation in which you’d get revealed.
But to all the people saying we should have cooldowns and stuff jammed into our skill bar because of reasons, nah. Calm that kitten down now, cause it’s not happening.

Since there are very few thieves looking objectively at this thread, I’ll speak up.
Right now, maintaining stealth on blocked attacks is okay.
Once Resilience of shadows and the other thief buffs drop, whiffing or getting a backstab blocked should count as an attack and cause reveal, to counter the damage reduction in stealth.
Don’t be silly. We’re squishy as hell, but once we’re not squishy we need to put some risk somewhere.
There’s no such thing as tons of get out of jail free cards. we have two on demand ports max per weapon set, iirc, and only one of them is a stun break. Initiative is in a comfortable range for me, if that needs to be nerfed or buffed remains to be seen.
But as far as adding reveal to whiffed attacks? We can take that hit with the new changes.

What do you do when they place that portal on a chest or piece of siege?
Click on the chest or the siege and hit F. It will choose what you have selected over the portal.
I should have explained a little more. Of course if you see a portal you target the chest or siege first but if there is no portal most people just walk up to it and press F. I’ve seen many people get caught because the portal got put down just as they were pressing F.
It takes two skills to activate a portal. The image of the portal entrance will be visible under the chest until the place it leads to is created. That portal entrance has a 60sec life.
The only way to get chest-snatched is to not realize there’s a portal sitting on the chest when you’re opening (which is difficult) or somehow not have the chest opened while a mesmer has time to set up the whole portal trap (which is also difficult.)
We’re tired of outfit updates and Anet is likely tired of us complaining about how [expletive] clips when we mix and match sets.
No excuse for not having both, though.

Crafting items becomes less profitable the less generally useful the item crafted is.
Food? Expensive.
Dyes? Lol.
Ingots/Quality of life refinements that save people from doing an extra click? hooboy.
Boxes? Not really.
Armor? Less so.
Specific runes and etc? Rofl dont bother unless its for you.
Economics 101
WvW needs more players on a lot of servers. I get that some people just don’t enjoy this game mode but it is never the same thing and you never know what to expect.. Might run into zergs beating down on doors or find small roaming groups. Might even have epic battles to overtake the castle in EBG.
Since no new living world content has been released this is the perfect time for you to try other game modes. I’ll admit when I first tried WvW I had no clue what I was doing. Probably died a million times and actually went back to PVE for months before stepping into WvW again.
I found the love for it though and that is where 99% of my play time is spent now. So all I’d suggest, even if you tried it and hated it, try WvW again LOL you may find it different this time around and like I said lots of servers would love to have more players in WVW.

If we could have more WVW players and Commanders that don’t equate wipes to failing an audit or something substantial like that, then we might have something to keep lots of people occupied.
Some people are newer and overwhelmed with things to do, some people are completely done.
If you are of the latter, realize that the game is not solely tailored around entertaining you, and take a break until the content you want is released.
There’s no sub fee. you can take a vacation and jump right in later.
Content is not an easy thing to make, especially when the process is obfuscated by the red tape of a business. Let them do their thing. The game as it stands right now is worth well over the 40~ bucks they ask for it, let alone the sale prices.
Or go make your own content. Learn an instrument and start a band guild. Aim to be the silliest commander in the world, we need more of those. build a QOL app so you can be ready when overwolf opens another app challenge. Farm gold and upset the market by buying up all the cheap onions. There’s a whole lot of non-linear stuff you can do while waiting for more space to do the same-old.

You should not let the possibility of praise from others drive you to do anything you would not otherwise do.
Anyone with enough money or time on their hands can craft a shiny. What makes a player unique is how well they put together their entire character. Stapling valuable items to a character doesnt make it any more interesting. It just shows that at one point you had X amount of gold or X amount of time.
Dont try to elicit praise from people. if you do things properly, it will come (but you shouldnt be starving for it anyway.)
Or am I wrong at this? Of course they are still tweaking the numbers, but I hope they would buff the vigor rate to around 150? Or do you guys think that is too much?
This has been mentioned before when the changes were first announced. If they changed the vigor trait to a 50% increase it would still be a nerf but closer to what we are used to with the current FG trait.

Baseline Endurance: 50(endurance)/5(endurance per second)=10 seconds per dodge
Baseline FG Endurance: 35(endurance)/(5 endurance per second)=7 seconds per dodge
Vigor Endurance: 50 (endurance)/ (5*2)(endurance per second)=5 seconds per dodge
New trait: 50 (endurance)/ (5*2.2) (endurance per second)=4.5454 seconds per dodge
Suggested trait (50% increase): 50 (endurance)/(5*2.5)(endurance per second)=4 seconds per dodge.
Current Vigor+FG: 35(endurance)/(5*2)(endurance per second=3.5 seconds per dodgeJust wanted to add the math for the change to 5 endurance on crit proposal.
(Assuming a crit exactly when it comes off CD)EoC: 5*5(EoC)=25 endurance+5seconds endurance regen= 5 seconds per dodge
EoC + Vigor: 3*5(EoC)+3.5 seconds*(5*2 endurance per second)=50 endurance= 3.5 seconds per dodge.Assuming you crit exactly when the EoC comes off CD, this change would equal the current FG, but require much more aggressive play. In practice, it would probably be something more like 4-4.5 seconds per dodge while playing aggressively (with vigor), and no benefit while spamming dodges.
And it can also be stolen, nullifed, removed, corrupted, or mimic’d, All of which are effects that cannot be easily avoided.

This one is not. Initiative is a shared cooldown for all thief weapon skills. Chill should not cripple them more than it already does.
I dont know how you consider blocking an invisible attacker when they have unblockable attacks, or dodging an invisible attack “counterplay”, but w/e. You’d think that counterplay would be more active than just punishing the class in question for not playing perfectly. We can play perfect if we have enough experience, and once the above changes are settled in if they are accepted, we’ll be right back to “Thief bawww” again.
Not saying you’re crying, but; doesnt seem like a reasonable fix so much as a knee-jerk one that just addresses the superficial mechanic problem, rather than giving other classes means to expose thieves.
And, a note: Thieves do not counter most zerkers. Thieves counter all bad zerkers.
If you die to a player that you hard counter you need to realize you deserve everything said afterwards.
Unless they’re new to or not serious about the class, in which case you become a jerk.
Unless you’re also implying that all hard counters are faceroll easy.
Requesting that the class that seemingly wiped you become weaker to compensate for your unwillingness to learn will not make you lose less.

I believe its been said that they will be adding a dueling system into the game, its just not a high priority right now. My guess is we’ll see dueling implemented post HoT
They said they would think about. I just hope they do it the right way and make it so if you dont want to do it you never have to deal with griefers, that is all, no matter what kind of griefing it is. Yes ive had bad experiences with dueling, its why im so negative about it.
Id rather them implement arenas around the world that those who want to duel can go to and stay out of everyone elses way. Dont want to duel or want to see dueling? dont go to the arenas. They could also allow bets to be placed at the arenas too! That would be a massive gold sink i could see, 5-10% betting fee anyone?
Edit: Astralporing has said it pretty much correct. In each and every single dueling thread that comes up, those who dont want it outnumber those who do, almost every single time.
This is correct.
Many people dont want dueling because pve is cooperative, and the personality traits generally associated with competitive online gaming do not make an overwhelming appearance there because most progress is to everyone’s benefit. Adding a competitive aspect to this zone, especially when the game is 2/3s competitive to begin with, would bring ego and toxicity into a relatively peaceful game mode.
I have nothing against instanced arenas, but seeing as how PVP provides instanced arenas and is a gold sink besides, adding a free option seems like it would take a back seat to current tasks if it took a seat at all.

You’re thinking of it the wrong way, with other skills a “Miss” puts the skill on CD meaning it CANNOT hit for the next Xsecs, this is not how proc sigils work.
True. Hmm. so should fire and air work like that? Show a little token on the hotbar saying (I have fire proc lol) and if it misses, put it on CD?
Could be nice. If those tokens come up at the same time as their normal sigil CD’s though, you’d just be guaranteeing damage again.

The fact that I cant add shadow abyss or white to the feather backpack drives me nuts. It’s stuck on that limbo-gray that never matches anything.
So, when they don’t get rewarded for their efforts (hours of grind) in a game that they love, they feel betrayed. I get the sensation that a lot of players felt entitled to the beta.
This makes more sense than i should, but players that cant understand rolling dice a billion times never guarantees a ‘1’ need to stay mad.

I frankly don’t care how hard people try to make doing solid dps.
I said this on another thread, if you want to remove the randomness from sigils in order to guarantee me flat damage if I do something, the result for my case is you will be seeing your HP dropping faster.
All suggestions posted prior allow players to guarantee damage based on prior condi application, flanking, or planning. This will not make bursts weaker. It will help players that know what they are doing (who do not happen to be few and far between) prepare and accurately define how much damage they can do in a specific amount of time.
That 50% chance on top of a % for crit is being seen as a burden when it is actually a safeguard. People have no idea in hell how, when, or even if those things will proc on any given attack, so people that take it are basing a large amount of their dps on good luck; which could easily not deliver.
I welcome assertions that a stealthed thief (or insert class here that gets dps drop) that knows how much damage he can do, guaranteed, in one rotation if the rotation succeeds, will be any less potent against any class he knows cannot withstand the rotation.
Prepare for insta-melt.

Yesterday, the longest I waited was 2 minutes, give or take however long it took me to mess with instruments. (20~seconds)
I was almost annoyed because I thought I’d have time to draw while I wait. Nope.

People play unranked because ranked is stacked and Matchmaker-bot-o-tron-3000 is temperamental about keeping everyone at 50% win rate.
