I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
theif is faster, it can +1 fights faster and decap faster, and alot of the time you have no clue it’s coming.
Mesmer is similar but not as mobile
A class that has combat capability but is delegated to “do not fight unless you are helping X fight” is a failure of a class in a game that purports to not shoehorn classes into roles.
Thieves are tantamount to stereotypical healers, minus being able to actually heal.
It stupid. to be perfectly blunt.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
I lost to a thief, therefore they are fine.
Sorry, OP isnt enough to convince me. Somethings wrong when I have to rotate perfectly just to stay alive in a normal fight when people can press 0, then 1,2,3,4,5 and take away all of my HP.
Or do stupid amounts of damage from stealth, at range.
I’d be fine with having to play hard to be effective. That’s the whole reason I picked thief in the first place. the risk was high but the reward of being able to succeed with such a class was appealing.
Now the risk is sky high, with very little reward since things like Rampage, D/D Ele and StealthShatter mesmers just generally produce better results with less effort.
I’d be alright if I could win if I tried to, if there was a reasonable chance to beat X class if they were just as competent as me, regardless of what they were playing, but right now Thief has been delegated to "do nothing unless you have help because you can’t kill anything on your own unless it’s just as glassy as you, and heaven forbid you get +1d; since any tracking immobs or stuns wont melt with Shadows Embrace and 25% defense in stealth doesnt matter when people know where to hit.
There’s no point to playing it seriously.
I still will, but I’m not interested in competing until having > 2 thieves on your team no longer means you lose automatically.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
Thieves now have to work harder for wins vs. any class, because they have only had defense applied to them when they are in stealth.
Since traits no longer allow a thief to spec for some mitigation, they must either spec glassy with high dps or tanky with low dps.
Compared to other classes that got resistances and mitigation built in that synergise well with their current playstyles, thieves have gotten comparatively little to help them balance against the general dps increases.
To maintain current effectiveness, the thief players need to either get better regarding tactics.
fyi i have more hp, more power and more crit dmg now than before the patch (22k hp to be exact)
i die in 3 hits, before the patch that NEVER happened unless a thief or warrior got you good
but now everything is a major threat to the thief
and even tho i have 600 more power and 30% more crit dmg my backstabs do 3-4k less damage than pre patch
anything else?
we’re dying in three hits because that power buff you have was taken directly out of your mitgation with the “traits no longer give stats” change. You may be stronger but other classes got both active mitigation buffs AND the power buff, so in the end thieves are ones getting blown up if they’re not stealthed.

We got, what.. a nerf to a trait people rarely used before and 25% less die if we arent hurting anyone.

It doesnt feel fair, but pretty sure any arguments to that effect will be promptly shut down with “nope, nope, stealth, lalalala”
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
no, you build and play for the team…not for yourself. If you want to play whatever you like and however you like pve is dat way —-> cause you can’t be a cripple for your teamates just because you want to have your personal fun…or at least this how it should be
Making your team lose isnt fun though.
I never play for anything other than fun unless winning puts money in my pocket.
I’d love to give a balanced opinion but it’s frankly impossible with:
The good mesmers that are enjoying the buff
The bad mesmers that are enjoying the buff
The mesmers that think they’re too strong
The mesmers that think the stealth inversion is thief payback
The good thieves that are still doing well
The bad thieves that are lamenting not being carried by stealth
The thieves that think they’re too weak
The thieves that believe that they are being slighted because of the stealth inversion
So w/e. playing crusader ammy, let Anet handle it,
Just to know…
Why you guys play PVE?There is no point for me…
You play to farm legendaries, but you can go there and buy a legendary with real money and no effort…
It’s only “4fun”, but do the same things all the time isn’t that fun…WvW, its a competitive in theory, so, win it’s the point!
PVP, same thing!
I play instruments in PVE and go yell at people doing events.
Its pretty fun.
First iteration wings were ugly.
Second iteration: Close enough. proceed.
1/10 valid complaints, 9/10 nitpicking.
balance is okay, adjustments needed with the new stat layouts but its somewhat close.
I dislike Trahearne because he has a corruptible face.
He looks like hes just sitting around waiting to be made Mordremoth’s sock puppet.
Repetitive stealths gives you time to coordinate burst.
Think about that for a couple secs. One of our only reasonably viable weapon sets gives the opponent time to set up combos for when we finally do drop out of stealth.
You want to nerf thieves because people less competent than you are losing to them.
Okay. Have fun with that.
People hate them because any playstyle that gives a squishy class a way to escape being oneshotted is unbalanced and op.
players should have to suffer the consequences of playing a squishy class by always being downed. Except ele. Ele isnt a filthy coward class.
How dare they survive my hammer rotations. I’m running berserker.

why are you putting “Running away” in quotes like that is what I said?
I didn’t say “Run away.”
I said “Dont unload for 8 seconds.”
Evade, block, use normal attacks, and save your condi burst for when it runs out. If balanced stance isnt up a launch eats lots of Zerker stance time.Elaborate then sir. As a condition necro what do you class as “Normal attacks” The 150 autoattack crits?
Anything that isnt your condi unload, for eight seconds.
It’s not rocket science.
If you use flesh golem then that would be a good time to charge. Zerk stance is not build crippling, you just need to keep an eye on your target bar and not unload for 8 seconds.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
Counterplay to Berserker stance is “do not unload conditions for 8 seconds.”
If you cant just live for 8 seconds then something’s wrong with your
build. If “Running away” is classed as a counterplay for something, Can’t we apply that to everything? Nothing will ever be op because “Running away” is apparently a counter-play.
Lets not even mention the fact warriors have the highest mobility in the game.

High level play is merely a competitive level in which inherent class skills and behaviors become the determining factor for matchup. Its a simple way of saying “a theoretical match in which both players of a given class play perfectly.”
Any suggested nerfs to fix imbalance at high level play are saying that “even if class x plays perfectly against class y, the nature of his class by default puts him at a disadvantage.” These people want to balance that so that player of different classes but equal skill levels always draw.
That’s gonna be hard.
Just a base vitality increase would be fine.
Or nothing.
Theyll get nerfed anyway, players that arent thieves dont like the thief as a class by and large.
Female charr want to look and feel feminine too, ya know. Just because they’re not humans, doesn’t mean they don’t have feelings. Anet is place of tolerance and equality. And what’s more equal than making skirt outfits that show off some leg?
Female charr don’t have feelings. They don’t want to look and feel feminine. They are pixels. It’s the humans behind them that have feelings, not the character. So, asking for tolerarance or equality for pixels of imaginary creatures in a video game is an invalid argument. If you want it, ask it for yourself. Don’t make up nonsensical arguments concerning the feelings of pixels.
If pixels don’t have feelings or emotions, then explain why Caithe cried when she killed her sister. Or how Braham got worried about Taimi being surrounded by the Inquest. Or how about when Rox lost her Warband. Tell me your character wasn’t sad when Tybalt sacrificed himself to save your comrades.
Wat
I dont have anything against your idea, all for it
but still

Used to be that when I clicked on another characters gear in the bank I would get “belongs to another character”. So now it actually tells me who’s it belongs to now. Good job.
Almost 3 years to change
sprintf(msg, “Item belongs to another character.”);
to
sprintf(msg, “Item belongs to %s”, item.characterOwberName);
Keep up the good work!
I’m looking forward to having a 2nd improvement to the game.
I feel bad for the devs.
Even when people are happy with a change here they’re bitter as kitten.
I approve of more cringe-worthy shouts.
Meanwhile I’m having a blast slaughtering burn guardians since I got free shadow’s embrace.
Adapt or die bye
I need an asura to buy this and do a Midna
What OP meant to say is….After a balance change everyone is in a l2p phase. When things settle down, if you post on the forums that a certain class needs a nerf you really should look at the data available.
For PvP, which classes/builds are used on tournament teams.
For PvE, which classes/builds are used on speed run tournaments.
For WvW you can ask which classes/builds are used in GvG’s, but that’s only part of the WvW story.
If you complain about a class in a game mode, and it’s not used very much in that game mode, then you need to l2p.
while I am not disagreeing that observing tournament choices is a far cry from what I am about to suggest or not useful in obtaining accurate results, I think that nerfs should actually be called only after extensible observance about how a class performs in multiple game modes in standard scenarios (2v1, 1v1, 1ve, team, zerg, etc) and versus standard class builds. If they consistently overperform then players can look at what gives them the sizeable edge.
unless this is done already. I’m just getting a vibe of “ooh tourney players use it, it must be op pls nerf” from lots of the [insert example of why X is op] threads.
They should delete ranger and make it new from scratch, there is more wrong with it than right at the moment.
It grinds my gears when people make statements like this requesting that developers just “delete everything because it’s wrong” when there are people using the class successfully and the devs have demonstrated they’re currently rebalancing.
It does nothing beneficial for anybody. It’s just a waste of time to read.
Game is never going to be balanced but the community fixes that by focusing the OP players.
Call target on necro to kitten support, leave war for last.
Same old, same old. Anet is just making it a little more comfortable every ship.
they can’t remove PvP forums.
snicker
As soon as I got hit by steal I would have dodged and healed immediately. Daze only lasts for one second now. DPS thieves cant afford to be that slow.

Necro’s are no longer free kills so everyone wants us to get nerfed.
Still not on the same level as other professions. But no longer miles behind them.
The same could be said for mesmers lol
Please elaborate.
Mesmer are no longer free kills so now they want them nerfed.
They never were free kills, at least for any mesmer above average. The issue now is that they are the second strongest class behind ele.
What class should be the second strongest class?
I believe this deserves an answer.
Cause everyone wants to say “the class I main” but nobody wants to be nerfed.
I call’d it anet, buffing some classes by a ton and destroying a few did nothing but kill your game further, so good job at making bad people somehow decent (ele, mes etc)
This game is even emptier now than it used to be pre patch, no idea how you guys manage to kitten up everything
Every day I see these posts and then log in and see enough people to drop my framerate in the mists.
It makes no sense to complain the game is being killed by these changes when:
a.) it isnt
b.) people are adapting and using the new changes to great effect across the board (with the exception of necro but we’re used to that.)
If you dont mind me putting you on the spot, which classes did Anet destroy? And how were Mesmers and Eles suddenly made “decent”? They had to be decent to live before; did those people that actually knew what they were doing suddenly vanish into the ether?
The problem was, game never trully downscaled players, it was a funtionality that was announced within how would gw2 work… 2+ years later its working (suposelly).
All they need to do is mod the drop tables now, either toward improved mat drops for farmers or improved exotic drops across the board for 80s so there isnt reason to just pigeonhole up in Orr.
Just as a side note as I already posted here, this thread seems to confirm my signature.
+1.
Sad truth of the matter is whatever you are in the dark is what you actually are.
Actual jerks will be jerks on the internet. Social, face-to-face interaction presents a barrier that just isnt there when there’s a computer medium.
That being said, ignorance of that fact is no excuse for lamenting inevitable damage by it. Thick skin or dont internet.
You can’t one-shot in dungeons because mobs are “elite” status so dungeons are irrelevant in your equasion.
You still get downscaled in them and pre nerf they were still ridiculously easy. If you want to argue the meaning of “oneshot central” as it relates to my statement you can do that by yourself.
Fact of the matter is, I’m all for the difficulty spike so lower level areas arent a snoozefest.
Neural.1824 does have a point. – People who show up on the forums and say “grow thicker skin” are typically the ones that are harassing, bullying and causing trouble in chat.
“Grow thicker skin” is common sense. The internet makes people in general more insensitive about other people’s feelings because there are few if any repercussions for saying something damaging.
That’s one of the neat things about having your account name and number shown on the forums. Someone being a troll or causing some grief in game? Add them up and then search the forums for posts. Catch them being a hypocrite and then deflate them in front of everyone the next time they post.
And isn’t this also harassment? Actively seeking to damage someone’s reputation because they did or said something you didnt like elsewhere?
I prefer 90% of the game not being oneshot central, thanks
open world low lvl areas is hardly 90% of the game; I would call it a minor content
You are downscaled wherever the content is not level 80. Before this trash mobs < 80 were tissue paper for most classes.
Still not 90% of the game.
Still trash mob is exactly how you call it – trash.
Trash mob, trash loot. There will never be any challenge from trash mobs and any reason to kill them with more than 2 hits. No matter which level. You’re right, It’s more like 80% Still ok with having to actually do something when I’m not in the extremities of the world map instead of my usual “ignore it, sell inventory items” routine.
And how over the top (bugged) downscaling is expanding available content?
It’s still not 80%. Open world is merely 25-30% of the game, mostly leveling.
Perhaps I’ve said something confusing.
I’m not talking about just Open World. You’re the one talking about that. I’m talking about all content where you are downscaled, which includes four dungeons.
When I say “I prefer 90% of the game not being oneshot central” I am talking about content relevant to the topic; namely, that content where players experience downscaling nerfs.
Content where this downscaling doesnt happen is irrelevant atm, like the content that upscales you.
Further, it’s not expanding available content. It’s just making it more enjoyable to do that content when we feel inclined.

If you’re talking about -just- the low level areas, then that’s fine. But this is across the board for me and I enjoy the added difficulty even when I’m just passing through.

We-ell, its a tough one, isn’kitten What it comes down to ultimately is what you feel comfortable with, which is pretty much the best way of putting it. Some folks are not easily intimidated, and some are.
I mean, I have a neighbor whose fourteen-year-old daughter plays GW2 and she is very sheltered. About two weeks ago she was verbally abused in world by some players and it has left her withdrawn and emotionally damaged. I see things like that and ask myself what can be done to assure her that if she starts playing again the same people will not be able to abuse her since they know her (character) name and according to my neighbor at least told her they would target her the next time she came in.
What sort of slime wrapped in human skin does that to another human being? Let alone a child; not that they seemed to know or care.
Note: you need thick skin to be on the internet in general
But verbal abuse should not be tolerated besides, anyway.
Celestial dye from a plant.
I prefer 90% of the game not being oneshot central, thanks
Trying to figure out if this is an actual thing or if OP is just too willing to believe that anything done by a player that slightly inconveniences him is done specifically for that purpose.
Hanlon’s Razor?
Too much work, too many resources and too much time spent on a QoL change that only a fraction of the community at best will care about, let alone enjoy.
Voice chat would be a +, but this seems excessive.
Well what i know is that currently (and especially in pvp), every engineer i have come across runs grenade kit with trait plus elixir S and use the stealth to then instagib people with the bugged grenade barrage.
If ANet won’t count that as a (temporary) bannable exploit, they better do something about it real quick cuz it’s becoming an epidemic.
Elixer S? That is really quite shady. I am running an HGH Grenadier build, but I use Elixers H, B, U, and X. I like how it plays, but the barrages right now are way OP. They really should fix this soon then, ’cause insta-downing from stealth is pretty screwy (even though some thieves can do this too, right?).
TBH I dont think even zerker thieves can instagib from stealth. Take a large chunk of hp sure, but most times you can respond.
It’s stupid high dps, yes. But don’t get all kitten-y about it and start trying to report people for just playing their class. Itll be fixed eventually.
Stop running Zerker
Thoughts?
10/10 completely reasonable. Those pesky people who arent my class should have to try much harder than I do.
