I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
I find it amusing that people are so shortsighted that they’re hoping this is working as intended, even though this essentially invalidates the effort required for any class that is not engineer.
Think about what will happen if this is left in. Think about how this will affect the leaderboards, ranked, unranked, teams.
Easy wins at the cost of the game’s enjoyment isnt good for anyone.
Superman is cheesy. Batman is pro.
This mostly.
I’m not a mesmer player, but I will say I’ve had some decent fights with them so far. I don’t know how broken they are, but they’re fightable.
why are people defending a 1/2 second cast skill that can be used every 25 seconds that is AOE and depletes all of the opponents health instantly?
Why are people defending it?
1shot short range skill that can be used from Elixir S.
And Engies are screaming balanced.
lmao. Anet just willingly broke things just to see how the forum would react so they know how heavily to weigh our opinions.
I’ve actually picked up a decent D/P – P/P build because of the recent buffs.
There’s no cookie cutter builds atm, so itll be much harder for people that dont want to just try things until they find something that works.
Unless you’ve bought Arenanet stock, you have not invested in GW2.
Functional is better than diverse.
That being said, I’d take 27 possible trait lines per category where all of them provide reasonable benefits instead of the option to spec partially into one trait line in order to get one thing I like.
I personally believe the nerf to vigor combined with explosive mesmers was a step backward.
I am willing to play cheap until it’s fixed.
Personally I’d wait about a month to see where the meta settles before I start pointing fingers, just in case my class is broken too.
R.I.Pepperoni Feline Grace, you were nerfed because people thought we dodged too much.
I will avenge you with Shadow Arts.
p/p is still somewhat viable in pve and also pvp, due to no quarter, the inherent range increase and S/A line revamp. find a way to keep up swiftness and you can make it work with reasonable effort.
Havent been seeing any lag issues on my end. East coast USA here.
You either get the drop on them or die.
Yea I think you got burned you saw it selling for high and hoped to sell it for higher, its human nature
Honestly, rather than hoping to sell for higher I was just hoping it would keep its value. I never had any use for such a big pile gold at anytime and I enjoyed having the item.
If only I was good at economics, I could have made thousands of gold over the years like many others.
I am failing to understand how you feel this change affected you when you never intended to make any kind of financial gain off of the item in the first place.
Enlighten please?
I like it compared to the old wing stiffness. could use more work, but happy with them as is.
We went from a lot of choices with only a handful being actually useful to slightly less choices with more of them being useful.
We have less global breathing room but more relative breathing room.
plus we get to grab an extra trait line. Wouldnt say that’s getting dumbed down. It’s more like streamlining so people actually consider half the stuff they wouldnt give a second glance originally.

The silence is taking a long time. I think there’s only one way to go. I would expect to see a message like this very soon:
“Greetings fellow inhabitants of Tyria,
Earlier this week we opened pre-orders for our exciting new expansion, Heart of Thorns. We are really excited about this expansion – not only does it have the new Elite classes, only a few of which have been fully revealed so far, but it also introduces a whole new world for you to explore. We have many more teasers and spoilers planned over the next few weeks that will let you share our excitement about the expansion.
That said, we here at Anet have been aware of the voice of the community on the pricing or content of the expansion packs we’ve offered. We feel that the prices we listed are appropriate for the content we are releasing, and certainly comparable to the other releases we and other gaming companies are producing these days. We have a fantastic user base, and many of you have been as hyped as us for the expansion. Some of you have been with us from the original Guild Wars, including even some of our beta testers of that game. You veterans form the core of our userbase, and are are often the most vocal supporters for us. Or, in this case, vocal in your discontent. We do want to have you continue your journey with us through Tyria, after all, we have dragons and lore you haven’t even seen yet (are you there, “Bubbles”?).
After a great deal of internal conversation, we’re making the following change to all expansion packs: All packs will now include 800 gems, which is the current cost of a character slot in the game. Are you one of our players who has a maxed character in every slot? You can use these gems to buy yourself a new spot to roll that exciting new Revenant. Are you a newer player and still have open slots? Use these in our Gem Store to buy many quality of life and appearance items – we’re sure you’ll find something you’ll like! For our user base who want to buy the Ultimate Edition, you’ll now get these gems in addition to the ones you already are receiving as part of the package. We expect you to be the snappiest dressed Revenants in Maguuma!
Once again, thank you for your passion around our world. We are on a shared journey and look forward to you joining us in the newest chapter, Heart of Thorns!"
…Can ANet hire you? Seriously, that is the most balanced, mature response I think I’ll ever see to this incident.
+100.
corps are not people.
People comprise a corporation.
Just like some- (if not most) Canadians would get kitten if I said “Canada sucks”, employees of a corporation will often feel the sting of anything said about their corporation.

It’s a prepurchase bonus. When the game is released it will just be the expansion. Pre-purchase isn’t about being fair. It’s about giving bonuses. If you don’t like it then wait until the game is released and everything will be “fair” again.
a prepurchase bonus which only applies to new player? much market such wow
ISPS do it all the time with their service bundles.
I was significantly moved by the following.
I understand if people think they’re being slighted or if something is too expensive, but I’ll be kitten ed if I’m not ashamed that the portion of the community of which I am a part spitting poison all over what amounts to months, if not years of hard work are depended on in part to pay the people that made the expansion pretty and possible.
Arguments of fairness aside, that kitten aint cool bruh.
To any devs that have the bravery to peruse this amidst the backlash, you guys did excellently.

I’m still having trouble understanding why offering the core game for free, when the LS and other future events are going to depend on people having HOT, Is a big issue.
I mean.. so? Newbies get the old content so they can prep for the new content. and the core game standalone isn’t available anymore. Feeling slighted is difficult for me to comprehend.
Might be some difficulty in adding perks to a package after it’s already available for purchase.
That and them trying to be nice to people who otherwise had not even set foot into GW2 apparently backfired. Them favoring players that had not made it very far into, or at all into the game is not a new behavior. The NPE and 10 dollar sales attest to this.
They’re either quiet (Deliberating) or quiet (Cant believe the rage).

I don’t understand why having access to a game years earlier than new players as well as rewards and experiences that will never happen again puts us at a disadvantage when the same game (which has been discounted to 10 dollars several times, mind you) is given to new players in an effort to encourage them to play.
When people buy game consoles and play them until they’re obsolete, then see them being offered for a third, a fifth, even an eighth of their price commercially by the same vendors that sold it to them full price, that’s perfectly acceptable.
But when Arenanet does it it’s an outrage?
I don’t agree.
Given that a certain other game is requiring you to pay about this price for an expansion and is not automatically including a month of play time with that purchase, I am actually pretty content with the standard price of the expansion, personally.
I’ve gotten my moneys worth of content out of the core game, so it doesn’t bother me to pay the standard asking price for an expansion one time, regardless of whether newbies are benefiting or not.
Just my two cents.
I don’t take this seriously.
TL;DR no
+ Character slot for a standard expansion would be a reasonable fix.
Guitar
Violin
fix the lag affecting frame drum
and good.
worth it, best mini.
I think they’re just breaking everyone until people give up with complaining and leave or adapt.
If thats the case they need to break necro more, but reaper might do that…
rangers and necros still bottomfeeders
Necros maybe, Rangers nah. Maybe Reaper will bring them up to par, and still have to see how the condi changes affect them.
-snip-
My suggestion is to just remove super speed’s effect on skills, while keeping cripple/chill/swiftness the same.
-snip-
Maybe they couldnt have one without having the other as well, based on how those respective modules are coded.
If that’s the case, people being able to get away easier is better than having them exploit their way out of arenas with super speed.
This is a little off topic but:
As a community we need to stop calling things “Brain dead.” It’s a term used so much that it’s beginning to cheapen the posts it’s used in.
I almost went “knee jerk response” and ignored the whole post, even though I also play a thief and could benefit from supporting this.
EDIT: Went back and read the topic.
>Dont stand in fields
>Dont SR when an engie is near
and prob solved.
Theyll get it right eventually.
For now, though:
Blood Magic Traits that “siphon” health now heal through shroud. Additionally siphon damage and healing from traits is now called out in the combat log.
The effects of siphoning skills and traits has been increased by 20%
Life force maximum increased by 15%.
Soul Comprehension: Increases life force gain from nearby deaths by 20%. Fixed a bug that caused this trait to affect all lifeforce gain instead of only lifeforce gain from deaths.
Last Rites: Gain increasing healing power based on how low your health is. Other allies near you do not bleed out while downed (combat only
^ is a good start.
I love how when balances dont favor every class, its “Anet doesnt want to nerf their beloved op [x]” but when they do, its “power creep wow”.
Entertaining.
PvP was boring before. Maybe we’ll see some fresh new specs now.
good thing my playstyle doesn’t rely much on immobilize…otherwise this really cannot be allowed to stand
Engies would be kittening crying if they didnt have orbital lasers and fountains of heals right now.
Are you suggesting that this trait is bad or OP? (or neither?:P) I think this is a good trait and I don’t think it’s OP. I mean thieves can only remove cripple/immob and chill with Withdrawal, so being crippled instead of immobilized is still hampering movement a lot.:P
Don’t pretend like this isnt a big deal; being literally immune to immob is huge. It’s welcome with the sweeping changes across the board though, and I hope it isnt placed on the chopping block when the dust settles after release.
ITT : Zerkers not dodging enough.
Really wish I could do better than that. these threads have tired me.
They generally do not make themselves publicly known because it makes it harder for people who may be inclined to disrupt them to do so consistently. generally though, RP groups know each other, and eventually people with that interest do find their way into the groups.
Impressive. If its accurate I’m on board.
The devs in charge of core balance said themselves on Ready Up that “if you believe thief is OP, you do not play one.”
what happens when a thief calls thief op, mind blown
Mother of God…
The typical I got facerolled so nerf the class post.
Dont read my post? I say i beat his sry kitten but he can just teleport away regen come back and kill me. Balance? Where is balance with thief profession??
Saying you beat him when you didn’t doesn’t mean you beat him.
Preventing the port is part of the match. Because you failed to prevent the port, you lost.
Or “Almost won”.
And to people expressing interest in showing damage numbers when you hit a stealthed thief: What are ye, nutz?
Reveal on block or on miss is fine. bad thieves attack shield stance/aegis, and any proc of those forces reconsideration of strategy.
Allowing people to track you in stealth with cleave is ridiculous. We already have autoattack chain watching to give hints as to whether you hit something or not.
visible damage on stealthed targets*
.you would not be able to land a single backstab-
Wow really? Come duel me on my thief. I’ll give you 500 gold if I can’t land a BS. But if I can, perma delete your account.
What are you talking about?
He said quite plainly that if damage numbers were shown over a stealthed thief when they were hit, he would be able to track you easily.
And he’s not wrong.
What does dueling him now have to do with any of tha-
Oh, I get it. Lol.

The devs in charge of core balance said themselves on Ready Up that “if you believe thief is OP, you do not play one.”
I dont know about everyone else who wants the class nerfed without so much as giving it a try to see how difficult staying alive is for thief, but I’m pretty sure the conviction with which the above quote was expressed has validity, judging from where it comes from.
(no derailing intended), but +1 to this. Attunement swapping is a mechanic and shouldnt have cd increased by chill.
All class mechanics are affected by chill, even steal.
This is true, but doesn’t attunement count as ele’s weapon swap?
unless I’m nuts and WS is affected by chill-
When I said mechanic, I meant that Ele’s attunement change is a mechanic with skill traits.
Doesnt matter though. stop drop and roll fixes everything.
Stop, drop and roll is bad. It’s 10 sec cd and most of the time it will just remove burning. Unless you don’t dodge till you have chill on you, but gl with that.
Well, I dont use Ele. just trying to understand how it deals with things that more affect its whole playstyle rather than just available skills.
If stop drop and roll is situationally useless because of the CD, then some tweaking needs to be done.

Head shot cost’s 4 iniative, so if they spam that they will have none left in no time for them do anything else (black powder/heartseeker combo) so they either did use their brain and shut the enemy down at the right time or they were dumb and used up all iniative for 1/4 daze.
Anyway I thought we are discussing counters to stealth?
I’m on board with “Reveal on miss/block”.
I have yet to see anything else that isnt downright spiteful in its suggestion.
RE: Headshot cast time
The interrupt is 1/4 second and it uses a third of our init bar. That’s enough. We don’t spam it and if we do, we’re sitting ducks. Asking that the cast time be increased is just like saying “thieves should eat eviscerates and rapid fires”.
It’s a utility tool to stop moves that would eat all of our HP, and putting a cast time on it serves no purpose except removing counterplay from thieves, in the name of adding counterplay to players who didn’t really need to counter headshot.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
Chill needs not to affect attunement swap cooldown.
It’s a bug and it should be fixed.
Wait hold on this is actually a good kitten point tho.
(no derailing intended), but +1 to this. Attunement swapping is a mechanic and shouldnt have cd increased by chill.
As for chill and thieves, nah. Think of something else. Maybe add a damage bonus when thieves are chilled. like a perma 5% or something. completely offsetting their rotation is too much for a condition that can be applied regularly every ~5 seconds.
(edited by Azure The Heartless.3261)
Had my rear handed to me. Well DUH, condi ranger with longbow.
Longbow that got carried over from my pve session. And here’s where i blame a-net. Why do my pvp amulet, traits, skills etc ARE kept separate from PvE, while my weapon selection carries over from PvE instead of remembering my pvp weapon selection like with every other piece of gear?
The game wont automatically equip weapons for you, that much is true.
If it can be addressed, this would be a reasonable QoL fix.
420 posts and counting. That is all the evidence you need that OP was right and that stealth needs more counter play to it. If it wasn’t an issue thieves wouldn’t care if it got nerfed and other classes wouldn’t care. The fact this thread has so much interest is conclusive proof that nerfs are needed.
Job done, well done all.
“People are mad at OP for spouting nonsense and not just blindly accepting it. Jeepers, he must be right!!”
>Instead of actually reading the posts
Lmfao do you even logic
Just straight HAMMERING the bait button roflThieves are only ones spouting exaggeration and nonsense here. Like you always do.
#flopsomemore
Careful with that!
I agree with two of the three points he’s making.
I am only against chill decreasing cooldown, since it affects all thief skills and combat choices instead of just the skills on cooldown. That is stark nonsense; thief skills are not designed like normal CD skills and should not be submitted to chill across the board.
I made that apparent on the first page. As I said then, reveals on whiffs are fine, chill regen is not. I understand that Reaper and such will be depending on this, but cramming it into our skill bars isnt going to work.
If you want to specially design chill to work a certain way on thieves that’s less silly, then I’m all ears.
