Is this patch supposed to be a joke?

People who play games need to start growing up.
And while you are at it get a job and start wearing suits!
Seriously, games are for fun and you have to be a child at heart to enjoy them. This is a game not a job, people play it to mess around, relax and have fun.
Now to the rest, not everyone’s definition of fun is the same. Hard does not equal enjoyable or good content. You want it hard then do things like Tribulation and Liadri, if you found them too easy then perhaps Guild Wars II is not the game for you.
Remeber Guild Wars II was sold on the idea of being -casual friendly-, not ultra hard super elite MLG gameplay. If you bought the game to be tested to your utmost limits, then perhaps you got the wrong game?
Yes, the problem is when they go and nerf the Tribulation Mode like they just did.
Yeah, because adding three check points across two zones is such a major nerf. I even deleted all my TM rewards because now they are worthless. /sarcasm
I also want to thank Josh and the other devs from the bottom of my heart. Honestly, I don’t care about the difficulty but the fact that they managed to get so much kitten out of people by only adding 3 checkpoints to TM is incredible. I’m seriously laughing my kitten off right now at all the whining I’m seeing. 3 freaking check points and everyone pitches a fit. Unreal.

If you hated the dart trap puzzle you’re going to REALLY hate the dart trap ninja bs pagoda where you have to reach the gong…
But I agree with the general idea OP, World 2 isn’t fun like Word 1 was, just frustrating and annoying. Even after beating all zones I don’t EVER want to do that crap again.
Happened to me once too, right before the part where you go through the waterfall.

Too easy with over 1000 deaths and a PTW gem store item? Right…

I pretty much agree 100%. I’m really glad they finally got the message and made the “hardcore” content completely separate from the casual content. Having another Liadri debacle would have sucked. That being said, the poor design choices, especially requiring you to buy expensive items to progress while nerfing the ability to farm baubles has made this edition of SAB not nearly as fun as the previous.
Also, I personally don’t care for any of the skins, which honestly is a good thing. I’d be even more upset if I wanted some of them considering the crap you have to go through for them this time around.
They made it hard to make people buy the infi-coin end off. Disgraceful P2W mechanics which just pushes people like myself, a long time player away from the game.
Tin foil hats are in style once again!
If you came home one day and found your family stabbed to death and some crazy looking guy covered in blood and holding a bloody knife would you need a tinfoil hat to figure out what was going on?

This game is grindy. Things need to be repeated over and over and over in order for any reward to be given. That is grinding.
Yeah, I agree. Street Fighter was also a really grindy game, having to keep punching and kicking people over and over and over again. Couldn’t stand the grind!

[quote=2771619;skullmount.1758:]
For some kitten backwards reason, ANet thinks that only “tanks” pile on armor. And so they apparently made having a high defense a mob magnet.
But not everyone put on armor for that reason. Some do so because we do not have the connection and reflexes to save ourselves from slip second, out of camera view, dodge or die attacks.
But because more armor means we get more mob attention, putting on more armor is basically futile in this game…
Thanks, I never knew that increasing toughness can make you an aggro magnet. Might as well switch to zerkers then… <_<
I’ve never questioned how aggro worked in this game before but something’s bugging me now that I have both an 80 Warrior and 80 Engineer. My Warrior is full zerker axes and hardly ever aggros. My Engineer is in Knight’s so I know she isn’t doing as much damage but she aggro’s constantly, even pulling bosses sometimes when there are plenty of people meleeing them. Why is that? She’s running a Static Discharge/Rifle build btw.
I didn’t read the short story. I can’t, in good conscience, read a game-related short story on the official website when the in-game storytelling is so poor as to be virtually nonexistent. It’s a matter of principle.
So you’re criticizing a villain and saying she’s shallow because you refuse to take the time to learn more about her? LMAO!
I am sure a lot of the feedback on the forums right now is hard to read as a developer, we are merciless critics.
I can however understand the villain Scarlet in your minds when you created her with all the story was a good villain, however when you just came into it and saw this lady who is suppost to be a genius, doing all these dumb things… It just does not seem believable.
I actually like Scarlet and wanted her to be a successful character, but even after reading everything about her (which hould of been in the game 3-4 months prior.) she feels rushed. She could of been so much more, and the story could of as well.
This is why you don’t rush content. I know your trying to keep a good schedule of new things to do every 2 weeks, but why do them for the story when its … well.. I don’t want to say anything that would make a developer cry, because I know how much effort people put into story making.
I like Scarlet a lot better after reading the short story about her, but like you say, this info should have been incorporated in the game somehow.
Yep, she’s definitely crazy.
“Crazy” is a term used by people who don’t understand the intricacies of psychological disorders.
Just send entire teams of Strikers after the elder dragons. Dragon problem solved!
Lore joke answer: Clones, clearly.
Or just send Taskmasters and have the dragons kill themselves from 5 million stacks of confusion.
Kids are not allowed to die in games, otherwise it would’ve been banned in many countries.
Play the original Fallout.
Its obvious that Scarlet is Abaddon in disguise. Or at least a minion of his.
Same thing happened to a guy in our battle on Northern Shiverpeaks lol.
Some of them are pretty cool like the horn and shield. Others not so much like the mace. BTW, why isn’t there a phoenix, kirin, or turtle weapon? They were constellations in Factions.
Cut scene was cool other than the fact that Scarlet didn’t animate at all.
Scarlet is cool, but it’s pretty obvious that someone else is pulling the strings.
With the release of harder content recently such as AR, the Candidate Trials, and Liadri I’ve noticed more elitism than usual on the forums. Essentially people saying stuff like:
“You don’t deserve to beat this content”
“You’re just not good enough, go do something else”
“This content is for hardcore players, not for casuals like you”
“You’re not entitled to beat all content in the game, stop whining”
You get the idea.
Instead of coming across like a jerk, why not share tips and strategies on how to beat harder content like this? Why not be supportive of your fellow players? And why not understand the frustration they’re experiencing?
There are players who strive to help others and provide videos, guides, tips, etc. to others and they’re awesome. I personally wouldn’t have beaten the Liandri fight without their help. But if I had listened to the elitists I would probably have just given up.
As for “hardcore” content, I have no problem with it. But I don’t think it should be mixed in with casual content or story content. The Queens Gauntlet was essentially a bunch of moderately easy fights then Liadri comes out and is nearly impossible. She should have been an optional boss, or maybe even a secret boss for those who are worthy, like Akuma in the old Street Fighter games. Making her the final boss has really frustrated and alienated a lot of people who simply can’t beat her and therefore can’t complete the Queens Gauntlet. GW2 should make players feel like kitten heroes, not failures.
Also for dungeons like AR, why not have a normal mode then when that’s beaten a hard mode is unlocked for greater rewards? It wouldn’t be that hard to remove/slow some of the lasers, have shorter barrage phases, and shrink Mai’s health pool for the normal mode.
The point is that it really sucks that some players are feeling left out and excluded by this “hardcore” content, especially since it is apart of the Living Story which is essentially what sets this game apart from other MMOs. GW2’s primary target audience is the casuals after all, they shouldn’t have to feel excluded from this content.
I think all content should be completable by the majority of the player base with a reasonable amount of effort/skill. Then you can always add unlockable hard mode type content on top of that for those who want a real challenge.
I hate to say it, but this is one of the things WoW got right with normal dungeons and hard mode “heroic” versions of those dungeons. (even though heroics are easy now…) This way no one is excluded from the content and the “hardcore” gamers still get a challenge.
Your job. Seriously, you can make more money in real life to buy gems to buy gold in faster than you can farm gold in game. Once I figured out how much time this saves me I never farmed gold again (probably Anets plan all along but still…)
If you really want to make gold in game I’d suggest learning how to play the TP. I did it for a few days and always managed to turn a profit.
I mostly just do the Living Story these days. I don’t even really have enough time to level characters anymore but thankfully I already have two 80s.
Liadri. At least with the clock tower I could actually see what I was doing. With Liadri I was having to shoot at her off screen while not being able to see where I was going while circle strafing thanks to the poor camera. And there was NO way to see where the orbs were spawning while doing this so I had to just hope I didn’t get any unlucky spawns.
New Race: Skritt
New Class: Abbadon Cultist (Specializes in Chaos Magic and melee)
Honestly only seems worth it if you’re trying to farm achievement points through salvaging.
Full Zerker Warrior
Superior Sigil of Endurance on weapons
Axe/Shield – Rifle
0
25 (III/VII)
20 (II/IX)
10 (I)
15 (III)
Utilities: Healing Signet, For Great Justice, Shake it Off, Feel No Pain, Signet of Rage
Make sure you pop Signet of Rage as soon as she becomes active in Phase 2, hopefully you can down her by circle strafing with your rifle before the speed buff wears off. If she gets on you and Shake it Off is on CD and you can’t dodge, pop For Great Justice and Feel No Pain. Then just melee and hope she dies before you do.
Of course this strategy is completely dependent on not getting any unlucky orb spawns…
I find it very depressing in an MMO when most of the detail and actual depth was relegated to an instanced solo event.
Difficulty, bugs, etc. aside, where does the MMO part come in here? Is it the uninspired zerg events in the pavillion? The soloable Queen champions/aetherblade events in the open world?
I’m glad people who want challenging solo content in an MMO were satisfied, but then it begs the question: why would you play an MMO to participate in a solo event?
I can think of many current titles with comparable difficulty, but better performance and game play than this for single player.
I would like to think that the purpose of an MMO since the days of EQ hasn’t changed: it’s about coordinating many people to do something at the same time, fail at different times, but enjoy themselves en masse.
Granted the 5 player limitation hampers this, but a complete lack of encouragement to group at all, or interact with the community doesn’t really help.
What if the gauntlet was made playable by groups, but with scaling difficulty to compensate? What if you were somehow offered better rewards by grouping with people outside of your guild (only marginally better to make exploitation less desirable)?
Did you fail to notice the massive zergs going on in the Queens Pavilion below the Guantlet?
But seriously, a team Gauntlet would be fun. Maybe next year they can add that in addition to the solo Gauntlet.
Then ask ANet to remove the dodge system or do something else with it. In a game where, “Avoid ALL the damage!” is actually a pretty reasonable goal, about the only way to make encounters threatening is to make the damage completely overwhelming when it does manage to land.
Dodge is negated when an orb spawns across the arena and you can’t get to it and it pulls you into the shadow bast or clones and you die instantly.
Frustrating gauntlet mechanics seem to bring the worse out in people.
Not to mention all the elitists who think they’re “hardcore” now because they beat Liadri once out of 70+ tries, then come on the forum talking about how it isn’t that hard, and praise Anet for creating content that alienates most of their player base and want more of it.
I’m okay with punishing hardcore content, but mixing it in with casual content is stupid. Creaitng a gauntlet in which 90% of people will probably never complete is poor game design. They could easily have removed the orbs from Liadri to make the fight fair, then had a “hard mode” battle with the orbs for the few people who like dieing repeatedly.
YOU don’t think it’s fun because YOU don’t like hardcore content. It’s extremely clear from your post. I, along with other hardcore players, enjoy being beaten by a boss.
First off, Guild Wars 2 isn’t a hardcore game and was never intended for hardcore gamers. If you want hardcore you’re in the wrong place. Here you are in the minority.
Second of all, there is being beaten by a boss and then there is being beaten by a boss 100+ times even after you memorize her pattern and have the perfect build/gear because she has cheap mechanics like those orbs and bad camera making it hard to see the red circles on the ground.
If I beat something on the first try, it’s pretty boring. I like failing, because it means there’s something I can improve on. Of course, this arena has some issues (retryability issues), but when you’re in the fight, there’s isn’t much I’d improve. The only failing of this arena is Quality of Life improvements, not boss improvements. For those who enjoy being beaten, Liadri is a god send in a game with otherwise almost no challenge at all.
Most people aren’t masochists like you are and can recognize the difference between challenging and frustrating. But you are right, if someone enjoys hours and hours of failure (due to cheap mechanics) and having to spend mondo dosh on more clockwork sprockets/tickets then Liadri is the best boss in the game.
So for the first part where you said clones are unblockable, that’s just false. I use that as a major strategy in defeating her with multiple gambits. You’re being punished for not proactively getting the orbs down as soon as they go up. If you can’t get them, rethink your strategy.
There are several problems with this. First off, even if most people had the presence of mind to keep track of Liadri, her clones, shadow blast insta-kill AND the orbs it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to see where the orbs spawn due to camera issues.
The way the camera was positioned when I was strafe kiting Liadri I could only see one thing, the opposite side of the arena. I couldn’t see Liadri or her clones as I fired at them off screen, I couldn’t see where the heck I was going and only managed to avoid the shadow blasts by memory.
And I sure as hell couldn’t see where the orbs were spawning unless they spawned on the other side of the arena and in that case there was no way I would be able to get to them in time.
There is no feasible way to go after those orbs proactively. Even if by some miracle you can see all of them spawn the fact that you have to continuously move in a set pattern to avoid the shadow blasts makes it practically impossible to get to them in time without dying.
Add to that the fact that my Rifle Butt attack failed to shatter the obs about 75% of the time when I did happen to path across one; it’s simply poor game design and luck.
As for the second part, I’ve never had a better moment in this game than when I beat her for the first time. That was until I got the 8 orbs achievement. It’s fine to be casual, but don’t call content kitten because YOU don’t like hardcore content. I don’t complain that the bosses down below are not hardcore enough because I get that it’s casual content.
When I beat Liadri I didn’t feel excited or like a kitten, I was just glad it was FINALLY over. I didn’t feel like some 1337 hardcore gamer who needs to brag on the forums about it, I felt like drinking myself into unconsciousness. And that’s exactly what I did that night.
Those of us who have a problem with the Liadri battle aren’t calling it crap because it’s too hard, we’re concerned with the cheap mechanics and the fact that it simply isn’t fun.
Also, Liadri was not designated as “hardcore” content as you like to call it, she’s just another part of the Guantlet. If there was some sort of hardmode specifically designed for masochists who like to die over and over again, I’m sure most people would be fine with that. But as it stands, Liadri is a massive difficulty increase out of nowhere and you can’t truly complete the Guantlet unless you beat her, which is frustrating to many.
If Anet wants to include “hardcore” content, that’s fine, just don’t have it creep up on us out of nowhere because it is mixed in with a bunch of casual content.
I mean, how would people feel if they were playing an easy Mario game then Bowser at the end is practically unbeatable by the majority of the player base? That would suck, and that’s why Liadri, or at least the way she’s been presented, sucks.
Keep trying until you get lucky. That’s about it.
After 100+ attempts all the stars aligned and:
*I got no bad orb spawns in phase 2
*Went down after getting a lucky hit on a clone and as I was getting up exploded all the clones around us leaving just me and Liadri, both low on health, to duke it out in the center of the arena
*By a miracle of almighty Zeus she died before me (I had literally 102 health left) and before my “Feel No Pain” wore off.
My thoughts on this:
Phase 1 is FUN. You learn the mechanics until you can do it flawlessly. It was a challenge and it felt rewarding to beat.
Phase 2 SUCKED! It was frustrating and ultimately came down to luck.
I’m sure there are some people out there who beat this through skill. But if you’re one of the people saying “It only took me about 50 tries, it’s not that bad” it ain’t you. Being able to beat this 1 out of 40, 50, or 100+ tries isn’t skill, it’s luck, pure and simple.
Honestly, if it weren’t for those kitten orbs and godawful camera I feel as if this would have been a MUCH fairer fight. As it is, most people who beat this are going to just have to keep trying until they get lucky, and that ISN’T FUN.
This thread is still going? :P
I would have never even noticed these details if I hadn’t read this thread. Bit OT, but I’m still waiting for my speedo so I can match my mini Faren.
Apparently are a some immature people here who are uncomfortable by feminine looking robots.
That’s not bad OP, but I beat her using my feet to control the mouse and keyboard while using a lvl 2 engineer. When you can say that then you can join the big leagues kid.
Balthazzar approves of having a statue of him replaced with a combat arena. BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!
It’s unfortunate that there’s so many complaints here. It comes down to “entitlement”, since hard content means effort, and there are players who just want to finish achievements as easily and quickly as possible.
No, it comes down to poor game design. This is a failure of a horde mode. People are beating it by exploiting game mechanics, not fighting wave after wave as you should in a horde mode. Wanting content that is conquered by strategy and teamwork not soloing/exploiting game mechanics isn’t entitlement.
Guild Wars 2 was based off the idea that you can’t just zerg ever single event to win. T4 Trials are an example of this. You have to use skills like pulls, blinds, blocks, etc. Mashing the 1 button won’t get you anywhere here, esp. with uncoordinated groups who don’t prioritize targets.
The vast majority of the few people who have beat T4 have done so by soloing and camping spawn points. That is NOT how a horde mode is supposed to function.
This is hard as heck, and I’ve only managed to beat it once (with Bronze). Hard content is hard. Learn from your mistakes, and experiment with build setups. You get stunned a lot? Bring a stun breaker. Plunderers moving too fast? Slow them down with mines or control skills. Unable to try different approaches to hard content? Queensdale is that way —>
Candidate Trials is broke and has been since the beginning. This is not how a horde mode is supposed to function. Also, you’re just another elitist and no one thinks you’re special for beating this since it can be beaten if you exploit game mechanics. So don’t break your arm patting yourself on the back and don’t strain your neck looking down on others who want a horde mode that works like it is supposed to.
You make a good point about human-centrism, and specifically white-human-centrism — on which I recall there having been several debates, since apparently GW1 did a better job with diversity, but I never played that one so I can only go by what other have said.
I don’t see Evon as a stereotypical charr, and would actually like him more if I did. :p Sylvari, charr and norn are vastly more interesting to me than humans. If future writing choices were up to me, we’d see more of the non-humans in their own cultural environment instead of the strongly human-themed Lion’s Arch and all its living story plots. I’m not a fan of the asura, but maybe that’d be all the more reason to support there being more of them, specifically competent and likeable ones beyond the weird mix of “arrogant supremacist” and “disaster-prone comic relief”. Kiel as an asura is an interesting thought.
GW1 was pretty white human centric up until the expansions came out. That being said, I agree with you. We need more living story stuff that focuses on the other races. Especially the Asura master race.
I like Kiel because one time in the aetherblade dungeon she rescued me from the down state.
^This. She saved our party from a wipe at one point in AR by getting up our Guardian.
For future reference ArenaNet, this is how wave defense is supposed to work:
1. The timer counts UP, not DOWN. Finishing waves faster grants better rewards.
2. There is a CD from the time the last enemy dies and the next wave starts (waves CANNOT overlap).
3. Dead foes drop resources that can be used to bolster your defense for the next wave.Candidate Trials would benefit from a significant redesign to make them fun instead of boring/aggravating.
^This. Difficulty aside, Candidate Trials was still a failed horde mode from the beginning.
Don`t QQ guys, its possible to do it solo, i did it two times – one for Evon and one for Kiel. It`s difficult, but not impossible.
Everyone is complaining about the game because its too easy, and every time ArenaNet comes up with something challenging, the people start to complain again.
I take it you didn’t jump into the fray and do it the way a horde mode is supposed to be done. The fact is that regardless of difficulty people were having to exploit game mechanics and/or solo to beat Candidate Trials. That is NOT how a horde mode is supposed to be played. If it can’t be done by a full group of 5 standing their ground and protecting the loot from the plunderers then it is a failed horde mode.
This was obviously supposed to be a horde mode. Even before the patch people were having to exploit the game mechanics to beat it. Obviously broken from the start.
A dev said its coming in the next patch.
Sauce?
Here’s one from reddit:
For those that don’t want or can’t go there right now, basically a character named Kazuru Baneberry with the anet tag was asked about the rapier and here are his (her?) answers:
Maximus Ironhide: hey Kazuru, any news about the rapier? so dissapointed
Kazuru Baneberry: it is coming
Kazuru Baneberry: if I am correct, in the next patch
Maximus Ironhide: new weapon I guess cos npc have different animation huh?
Kazuru Baneberry: rapier?
Kazuru Baneberry: Not gonna be a new weapon
Kazuru Baneberry: it might get animations
Kazuru Baneberry: But not a new weapon type
Hope it gets new animations. It would be weird to see characters hacking and slashing with it like a broadsword…
There is some funny fan made stuff like this propaganda video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zlFdLxMh4Zo
And this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DNxgh8uXArw
There were some mudslinging official videos too but I can’t find the link.
lol, hilarious. The Gnashblade one is funny too.
Soo many threads because soo many casuals.
T4 not required for meta achieve
It’s optional
So in other words you think content should only be fun and/or completable for the hardcore players who have an infinite amount of time on their hands.
I like your username btw.
Seems pretty hard to me.

The one that is timid, has a strong sense of justice and chooses the obvious choices that would be considered ‘good’.
I wouldn’t call Ellen timid. A timid person wouldn’t have become captain of the Lionguard and wouldn’t regularly go into gutwrencthing combat.
As for Evon; he’s a business man and he’s using all the resources at his disposal to accomplish his goal. I fail to see how that’s evil.
Then again, concepts like “good” and “evil” are only opinions anyway.
… a guitar!
I like the in game instruments, they’re a lot of fun. How about make it so that we can use them at the end of Sanctum Sprint, or any future races so we have something to do while we wait for the next race?
Hate to be -that guy- and break the chain but I feel that it’s stupid to let someone just have something given to them, maybe I’m old fashioned but I feel if you yourself do not earn the achievement without having someone basically spoon feed it to you, you don’t deserve it. If they wanted everyone to have it then they’d award the achievement after finishing the race.
Maybe I’m old fashioned but it seems to me that when the giant that holds up the earth dies, we are SCREWED. walks off whistling
But seriously, it isn’t a handout. By having everyone with the title wait for those who don’t have it, the lesser skilled competitors are able to compete amongst themselves on a level more appropriate for them. You wouldn’t make a kid on a high school track team compete against Usain Bolt. Sanctum Sprint has no way of grouping players according to skill so this method works to help mitigate that.
