RIP City of Heroes
I feel your pain @Julischka Bean. I’m a similar player with equally poor skills/coordination, as well as a former CoH/V player. I don’t enjoy it as much as CoH/V but it is heads and tails above other MMOs I have installed.
All I can suggest is to find a helpful guild or use the LFG tool to find players who are interested in doing the HoT PvE content.
RIP City of Heroes
I like the metallic chrome effect as well as the TRON lines.
RIP City of Heroes
People are telling you the reason for the spike but you don’t believe it, that’s on you MrTree but it’s a pattern seen time and time again on the exchange chart. Those who spend cash for the gems appear to convert the excess into gold which then brings the price back down.
Personally I like the metallic chrome sheen to the new outfit than the sparky glider but either way it is driving people to cash in their gold to buy gems, not to mention the return of Belinda’s Greatsword skin which some have been asking for.
RIP City of Heroes
Critical crafting mats will never be BLTC because that would clearly be B2W or very least a direct cash grab and in bad form. If a supply shortage becomes an issue, they’ll drop in another way to get them.
RIP City of Heroes
HoT’s story was a disappointment considering how good the story was in LW2. It seemed unfinished and heavily edited down from a more comprehensive version. They virtually cut Jory and Kas out of the story in it’s entirely and the constant splitting of the group seemed like a cheep way to reduce the amount of new dialog that needed recording.
RIP City of Heroes
The original post asked for the reinstatement of the post 80 leveling reward once all mastery lines were unlocked. That would be spirit shards in today’s currency and that was even listed. The OP also listed Karma but considering all the karma reward nerfs in the history of the game that’ll never happen, they aren’t going to reward karma for something as trivial as leveling after 80.
Basically I never saw this as a thread to discuss options of what to offer but simply a request to restore the previous reward and it’s mechanism. My original reply’s point was that after the bifurcation of skill points into hero point and spirit shards, we no longer needed a steady supply of now hero points to unlock all of your character’s core skills and traits; and they added a means to obtain spirit shards from doing content and dailies. Therefore rendering this specific reward and it’s mechanism as obsolete.
That’s been entirely my point of posting in this thread. Not to discuss what they could offer instead or the need to offer anything at all. MMOs will always have times when those with the time and inclination can rush to completion of all content they are interested in from the core game or an expansion and then ask “What is there to do now? What good is there to keep playing?”
Because you like the game?
RIP City of Heroes
At the moment I think there may be a problem with the DE notification system in some zones. SB doesn’t even show up when it spawns and I had a tough time finding events in CF yesterday as the content guild wasn’t pointing me to any.

1) There is debate whether WvW is currently a pale shadow of it’s former self since the launch of HoT. I would wait until ANet rolls out their “fix” for what was done to WvW which may be six months or more away.
2) Everyone’s T1 server is the best server. I’m JQ but I’m sure the other two will disagree.
3) The joke, due to the number of human females in game, is they get a 10% XP bonus so that’s why everyone rolls one.
RIP City of Heroes
The assumption you have Ayrilana is that someone now controls the bulk amount of Mystic Coins not currently on the TP. And that’s where people who do those things get into trouble. Because it quickly becomes a question for every player sitting on a pile of Mystic Coins whether to sell off some of their hoard, knowing prices after shenanigans like this return to normal quickly. If I can make a quick 100 gold now and buy back the number I sold later at half that, the person or group that tried to corner the market is going to take a bath.
Look already it’s down significantly from the spike yesterday. Supply has recovered. Sure prices are up roughly 14% but this is almost the only way to raise a price to the level the market is willing to bear at the current supply/demand equilibrium.
RIP City of Heroes
..people are complaining that leveling after 80 doesn’t give you stuff anymore. That stuff in a post Trait 3.0 world would be spirit shards.
Why is that?
Because when you eliminate the need for Skill Points with the revamp into Hero Points, all you are left with is what’s now Spirit Shards. Certainly you can’t think they would reward you Hero points? That would eliminate a major reason to go into the HoT maps to unlock your elite fully.
..masteries is ANet’s solution to not bumping the level cap like other MMOs do for expansions. So now we wait until there are new ones, certainly next expansion and just maybe LW3, who knows.
The thing is, they didn’t need to add masteries. They could have just said, “No cap increase.” and left it at that. They added masteries to provide some horizontal, rather than vertical, progression. And I like that they did. I’ve had some beef with the generic way masteries are earned but I do like many of the masteries. And I’m looking forward to more. They are a good way to get some feeling of progression without increasing the level cap.
But the problem is, when you’ve maxed them, there’s still that dead zone until more masteries come out. It’s a dead zone that didn’t exist before [edit: ty to Inculpatus cedo below for correction], and as Paulytnz said above, “Anet have always stated that they like to reward players for the things that they do in the game.”
One of the major purposes of an expansion in an MMO is to provide progression to maxed out characters. Most games simply bump the level cap while a few add a secondary leveling track. Either method still use XP as the currency for that progression. Masteries are simply an account wide version of the later rather than Incarnate Levels in City of Heroes or Hongmoon Levels in BnS which are per character.
But any system still taps out at some point or risks flooding the game between major updates with particular rewards whether item or currency.

11 months and still no DX11 or even 10!!
Try 41 months, they mentioned they were investigating Dx11 just after launch.
Thing is though the renderer according to ANet Game Engine devs isn’t the bottleneck when performance drops so it wouldn’t matter.

I’m seeing video ads running on the timer pages. It’s possible that whatever ad server service she’s using now have TV commercials in rotation. That was chewing up 150KB/s of bandwidth and nearly a core (thank you Flash) of CPU performance.

You… seem fixated on the shards. What if we got a haiku each time we finished the xp bar? Would that be okay?
I’m fixated on shards because people are complaining that leveling after 80 doesn’t give you stuff anymore. That stuff in a post Trait 3.0 world would be spirit shards.
Removing a form of loot that isn’t needed in the same quantities anymore is suggesting the game is adopting WoW design. Wow (no pun intended) that’s a creative read of what I said.
Or maybe that’s a creative read of my creative read of your creative writing. Anyway, the point is it doesn’t matter what other mmos are doing. I personally think this was just overlooked because they were so busy and one day it’ll be addressed.
Why should there be progression once you’ve tapped out all available masteries?
Ask yourself, why did we get masteries in the first place? Why do we need progression once you’ve tapped level 80?
[Edited for my spelling typos][/quote]
Because masteries is ANet’s solution to not bumping the level cap like other MMOs do for expansions. So now we wait until there are new ones, certainly next expansion and just maybe LW3, who knows.

Sabetha? The OP did ask who.
RIP City of Heroes
For orbs, someone posted a suggestion using all of those HoT components that are sitting near vendor value as part of a recipe to craft a new orb that could be used as a substitute. It’ll raise the value of those items, maintain the existing cost to craft ingots, and provide a path to farm the materials by playing in HoT.
As far as mystic coins, I can’t think of a good solution. With how so many recipes use them, there does need to be an additional way to earn them to compensate. Perhaps letting players buy them with laurels and/or commendations.
You buy them from players who sell the ones they don’t use. And there are likely players sitting on stacks of them waiting for the price to go up on them.
Perhaps there are people holding onto to them. However, we can use that same reasoning for every item in the game. Just because other players who are not using them can sell them, or some may be stockpiling, doesn’t mean that there could not be an issue with supply.
Edit: Just look at the price trend. Clearly there are hints that there may be a supply issue.
The first surge in prices and drop in standing supply happen with the announcement of the login rewards and changes to the daily rewards. People who were unsure about the ability to get them bought up the market from 356K to 190K in a day. The 2nd big run on standing supply that spiked the price came with the Wintersday 2015 patch. Not sure why but supply went from 176K to 20K in a day.
Interestingly there seems to be a price spike just before Wanze posting. Curious.

In something like WoW or any other MMO what happens when you play beyond level cap? Does all that XP you get goes somewhere, is there some minor reward drop? Pretty sure in those other games you get nada.
And I’m pretty sure you just lost all credibility there. Time and again, it’s been hammered home on these forums that GW2 isn’t trying to be like WoW. It’s going it’s own way. Hey, you know what else happens in WoW? Mounts. (Jaws theme music suddenly plays)
The game simply outgrew the need for the post 80 leveling skill point reward.
What does that even mean? Are we playing the game or is the game playing us? Again, this game is about progression. There was progression. They broke it. Why are you against this? Why is this so hard to understand? This is the equivalent of the visual nerf thread and you’re basically arguing that anet was right in nerfing auras and fireballs because we were too “entitled” to have the original graphics.
Removing a form of loot that isn’t needed in the same quantities anymore is suggesting the game is adopting WoW design. Wow (no pun intended) that’s a creative read of what I said. My point was you made it sound like ANet was bucking convention again by not giving you stuff past level cap.
Why should there be progression once you’ve tapped out all available masteries? Skill points wasn’t progression but simply another character bound currency. Once skill points were split between character bound hero points and account bound spirit shards, we didn’t need a farmable source of hero points anymore since we got all we needed leveling to 80 and if we want more, that’s the purpose of hero challenges. As for skill shards, they are farmable via events, you want more, do more events that can drop them.
The issue I’m seeing is the OP and others have caught up with available progression. Here it’s all the masteries instead of another 10 levels like other MMOs. So you now tread water or level another character. Or complete all the collections, unlock every mastery point, craft every precursor, prep for 2nd season PvP leagues, bother learning all the secret ways on the desert borderland maps for the day WvW becomes fun again.
And if none of that sounds fun to you then how does earning a free skill shard change that?
RIP City of Heroes
Anet aren’t going to fix this because they’re the biggest culprit. How many times have you gone up to a crafting station or bank and found some static or randomly wandering npc getting in the way? How long have we been listening to the insane violets lady? Or the SW guy talking about mordremoth attacking the pale tree? They want to drive us mad around the free service centres so we’ll be forced to buy personal banking golems and merchants. It’s a conspiracy I tell you.
RIP City of Heroes
Skill Points were dual currency. They were used to unlock skills and buy traits as well as acquiring various Mystic Forge supplies. Their functionality was split into two currencies pre-HoT. Hero Points which is used to unlock skills and traits and Spirit Shards for Mystic Forge supplies.
During the era of Traits 2.0 where traits were only acquired from doing specific content or by spending Skill Points and gold, there was a need to acquire SPs relatively easy and that was “leveling” past 80. Since Specializations/Traits 3.0, that isn’t needed anymore since every level 80 character has enough skill points to unlock all traits and skills by simply being level 80. The need for a SP faucet is gone.
The other use of old Skill Points, now Spirit Shards is for Mystic Forge supplies. Earning them shifted from a near endless supply created from playing and leveling 80s to a plethora of loot chests as well as completing 3 daily achievements.
So at the end of the day they simply moved or eliminated the reason we got so many of them. And it’s a lot less likely to be gamed (remember the XP mastery farms). It’s a currency, it’s rate of injection into the game’s economy is more under ANet’s control now than players. And “filthy” casuals earn more MF currency now than before the Specialization drop if they do their dailies. Of course more hard core players who don’t bother with the dailies are probably earning less.
The game simply outgrew the need for the post 80 leveling skill point reward.
TL;DR There was a need to earn SP quickly before Traits 3.0 while after the need partially evaporated and the remaining injection of supply is more centrally controlled.
RIP City of Heroes
They’ve already indicated that there is a separate WvW team working on the WvW fixes and for once they are actually consulting with WvW guilds from the top tier servers. Just as there’s a fractal team and a raid team. If anything they are still in the earliest stages of designing the next expansion.
And if you bothered to read either the blogpost about what’s coming down the road this year you wouldn’t be asking this question.
They had a “WvW Team” working on it since 2013… https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/devon-carver-on-the-future-of-world-vs-world/
Nothing has been done… Also, those top tier servers are just zerg fests that gave us Edge of the Mist… Not a WvW map at all. P.S. Devon Carver is now gone from ANet.
You don’t call the … mishap … of what happen to WvW in HoT nothing? What we got was a half baked idea that they shipped before they were finished. It’s like the reset of your Fractal level because leaderboards were coming … oops.
And no, they aren’t zerg fests before HoT, I’m guessing you were never ran it with a proper command structure calling the shots. The new squad UI will help this a lot.

For players that have maxed out the Central Tyria mastery line (which is very easy for players that have been playing the core game for a while + the ability to gain XP in so many areas, including Fractals and Dungeons etc.), there has come a point where XP gain is “wasted”, as it does not progress any “advancement bar”.
Is there any fix in the works, that will at least give us karma and / or spirit shards (or something else) for gaining XP in the core game again? Seeing all the XP wasted is not encouraging at all.
So? Grats you’ve maxed out your character’s progression based on XP and your Account’s mastery tracks. You won!
Why do we need currency that’s tied to completing dailies to have a 2nd source that could be exploited to create a massive amount of it?
Why do we have to keep having this argument? And why the strawman? All we want is for the extra xp to mean something, as it used to, as it should in a game about progression. It doesn’t have to be currency. It could be a BL ticket scrap. It could be a writ of xp for levelling another toon. It could be a bottle of Nana Zoija’s Patent Toe Jam. And here’s the best part: it doesn’t hurt you at all! You’re accumulating xp like the rest of us, but when your xp bar is full and you get your reward, you’re welcome to delete it so that, you know, you don’t exploit it to create a massive amount of it or whatever.
In something like WoW or any other MMO what happens when you play beyond level cap? Does all that XP you get goes somewhere, is there some minor reward drop? Pretty sure in those other games you get nada.
My issue is with the stink of entitlement. It’s not good enough to get level 80 gear and rewards or be able to play level 80 content because if you don’t get some token tchotchke with every “extra” level it’s just not worth it anymore.
Maybe the mistake was ANet giving players skill points for “leveling” post 80 for all those years in the first place because now the player base thinks they are owed something beyond leveling their masteries.

Very, very few things in the Gem Shop that have been removed have ever NOT come back at some point.
When they return is entirely random so check Tuesdays and Fridays to see if their back because it’s normally for a limited time, as little as one day but that’s during major sale events so you know when to check daily.

Any method where you buy items from the TP with bids, manipulate them or not, and then post them for sale at a price you would make a profit. By manipulate I mean salvaging, unbundling and crafting.
RIP City of Heroes
I would add to the MF suggestion that it doesn’t reset on every forge so you can repeat until you don’t have enough of one of the components, similar to normal crafting. Would help promoting mats and upgrade items that normally come in stacks.
RIP City of Heroes
Then you have portals on the chest at the Steam Ogre in Metrica that’ll port you off the platform.
It’s amazing how many ways players have figured out to troll others in PvE when PvE was designed around the notion of co-op and wanting to see other players.
RIP City of Heroes
Honestly these are modifiers for types of play, not types of play itself. You can be a casual in terms of time but hardcore for playing certain types of content. Conversely you could play 3000 hours and never done a fractal or craft ascended gear.
RIP City of Heroes
Honestly ANet needed to space this last set of wings out over several months, not consecutive two week patches.
And for Gods sake who thought it was a good idea for them to be virtually fully extended as you walk about. It’s like carrying a ladder across your shoulders. I’m expecting players to dodge out of the way when you turn. You do know birds fold them up right?

It is not a bag slot but an item slot in your inventory that all characters have access to. They are always before the backpack slots.

Because not everyone enjoys PvP.
I don’t think that the OPs point is that there should be one or the other.
It is that fulfilling any of the PvP daily achievements also meets the requirements for a noticable portion of PvP rewards and/or reward progress. While the majority of the PvE daily achievements, do not contribute to a noticeable amount of PvE rewards or reward progress.
Except the 3 tabs for dailies are PvE, PvP and WvW (aka PvP with PvE equipment). If you say PvE is worthless that only leaves PvP.
But PvE does, depending give you mats, karma and those 5% experience writs which you can turn 20 into a leveling tome. Now if you think that’s enough great. But I don’t like PvP. It’s not a fun activity for me to be schooled by 12 year olds hopped up on energy drinks. WvW is fun but it’s a tad dead there now and all you get is a 20 minute XP/WP booster and 10 WvW whatever … tokens … badges.

RIP City of Heroes
Here’s the thing, I’ve never heard of them changing a character name without contacting the player first. Usually you login and you won’t be able to select the character without changing the name first. Now Display Names, they don’t have a problem anagramming them into something else but character names, no, never heard that happening before.
So either someone on staff when well beyond SOP and changed it on their own or someone who have access to your system and account, which is easy if you have remember account name and password checked, saw the name change request and did it without your knowledge. You have a prankish roommate, little sibling or disgruntled SO?
Because there is two issues here. First your original name being in violation somehow and second how it got changed without you even hearing about needing to change it. And again you need to submit a ticket because it’s very rare that the powers that be will pop in on a thread like this without a ticket even being made.
RIP City of Heroes
It was also reported that the next raid wing is dropping in March.
RIP City of Heroes
This entire thread is silly. Warduke needs to contact support as suggested and see where that goes. It’s pointless to debate the issue because ANet makes the rules and chooses how they get applied, and some of that may be subjective with different results depending on who handles it. So work the system. Then maybe get back to us with the hows and whys.
You mean “ANet makes up the rules and chooses to whom they get applied” and “So the system doesn’t work.”
This thread proves that somebody at Anet is abusing their powers – changing my name but not banning the previous name – and you really can’t deny that, whether you consider the name to be offensive or not.
Without posting this thread I wouldn’t have known that the name hadn’t been banned, so I’m glad I did.
But it doesn’t get to the bottom of the issue as to why? If you don’t call it to their attention through official channels, the forum isn’t the place for these discussions, then if someone did overstep they will know someone on their staff overstepped. It’s also possible that whoever changed your name forgot to put it on the lockout list. You won’t know until you ask.
Trying to drum up ire on the forums is really a waste of time. 9 times out of 10 when someone protests this much they aren’t telling the full story and ANet will trot out the dirty laundry as they did with Suck at Love’s ban or the good old days of renames when the game launched on reddit. Your seeming hesitation to put in a ticket first before going to the masses to cry foul is making you not look like an innocent victim here.
RIP City of Heroes
Which is fine, it’s your choice. If you don’t think any feature or subset of features that the expansion offers, including the fact that new content will mainly be connected to the expansion is worth the money currently, don’t buy it.
But the expansion is now the “game”. With the exception of dusty copies floating about on Amazon, which still sells boxes for MMOs that are no longer active, the only version of GW2 is the HoT version. It costs $50. No discount for previously owning the original game. Sorry.

No, the plan is to rotate borderland maps between desert and arctic. Not sure if the arctic maps are getting modified for all the systems now in the borderland ones (such as tactivators).

Actually it’s the payment processor ANet uses that as part of their service makes sure that they collect taxes where it’s appropriate. As states and even major cities pass laws to tax these type of internet commerce, people will keep finding taxes on items that were once tax free online.
RIP City of Heroes
I’m guessing database burped.

When the game launched the minimum price was one copper over the vendor price. Problem with that is after deducting the posting fee and sales tax would you would earn less selling at the minimum sale price on the TP then you would selling to a vendor.
So they finally got around to changing that so the minimum price guarantees you will earn as much as if you sold the item to a vendor if you posted it on the TP. But that left sale orders in below the current minimum.

EU gem prices has the tax baked into the price.

Poor Wildstar.
…….
Best part of that graph is how bad Wildstar is doing, it makes my day.
CirranWildstar is the poster child for how the market has shifted away from WOW style business and game play.
Meh, personally I think it has a TON more to do with how Wildstar presented it’s self. It is a “hardcore” and “elitist” players paradise. Just shows when you basically call everyone who is not one of those a cupcake and needs to grow a pair, you fail badly. I do feel the game had potential but the focus needed to change when it went free to play, it didn’t it is now reaping what it has sown.
CirranEvE online has been going for longer than almost any other MMO at this point and has done so well they literally built a monument for the player base in Reykjavik.
Going hardcore isn’t a problem. Going hardcore and doing a poor job of it is.
Eve is ancient in MMO terms, it also enjoys something WoW has. A very involved and dedicated core player base. 66k different users logged at the same time, is the record for this game. Eve does not have a mammoth population but it is loud, and vocal. As for a monument made in the country that the Dev studio is based in, not really sure how that is supposed to say the game is hardcore.
Cirran
EVE is a subscription based game with a paying population of over 1/2 a million. The big difference is EVE is a sandbox MMO with the majority of content derived by player run corps and not a “story” mode. It’s hard because of it’s massive PvP bent, not anything the devs really designed.
