RIP City of Heroes
There are two purposes for the 1 shared slot all HoT players get.
1) It uses an existing mechanism, that of shared inventory slots, to hold the 80 boost so there is no way a player could delete it by deleting a character before it is used.
2) It’s the first hit for free. Now you may complain that one slot is useless, but it’s not if you have one the unlimited passes to either the airship or terrace or a coin-fed salvage kit. Quickest way to multiply the usefulness of a convenience item like this.. And if you think one is useful, then maybe you will buy more and gem shop purchases makes the wheel go round at ANet.
RIP City of Heroes
There’s always been certain maps that tend to be low population. All I can be certain of is the areas in DR around the TP and Bank are loaded with players since the patch. Not sure where they are playing when their not there but they are playing somewhere.

Yay! Thank you Thank you Thank you

Technically it’s not a armor set, just gloves.

Oh boy, dumped as low as 70g. Inexhaustible supply it would seem, lol.
https://www.gw2bltc.com/en/item/36339-Ghastly-Grinning-Shield-Skin
1285 shield skins were sold today via instant sell option
guess it is time to reskin my shield, not going to use a weapon skin worth merely 100g.
Realize that the bought number is the cumulative delta between consecutive samples. So if I was to put in a bid for 100 of an item and pull them 10 minutes later, 100 is added to bought. It’s tough to tell actual instant sales on gw2bltc. Knock a 1000 or so off of that looking at the chart.
RIP City of Heroes
Yes, believe it or not I can read. Why wouldn’t I read a thread started by a Dev repeating a thread on reddit? Or any thread with a dev response. I was merely suggesting alternatives to the assertion that there was a deliberate case of insider information or trading.
The question is whether it was an accidental slip, intentionally telling a few close friends or just somebody clever put 2+2 together and got ahead of the curve. It’s not up to debate that since the end of March and this patch rolling out that the supply on the TP has increased as new ones undercut older ones. The question is what started it.
Now it was mentioned, I can think of twice, that when asked about old discontinued skins that they said they would look into bringing them back. Didn’t say when, didn’t say how. Rewarding those who are using the MF Item Sink is an interesting way to do it, bringing back those skins.
RIP City of Heroes
That’s selling power for money aka P2W. It’ll never happen.
RIP City of Heroes
How old are the shackles? Weren’t they available last Halloween? I think these are skins that haven’t been traditionally available for years/post wardrobe.
RIP City of Heroes
Didn’t need to be inside information, just data mined from the previous SAB patch. That was when the last sell off started with supply growing from around 100.
RIP City of Heroes
For the winterday drinks they did add a consume stack function, I’m not against that just the idea of an all drinks in your inventory function.

Actually if we had a slider for duration of space bar down before glider deployment would be nice.
I was doing the daily jumping puzzle in Fireheart Rise today and sometimes it almost seems like two quick hops would deploy the glider on the second one. I would get into a rhythm and hop .. hop .., hop . hop GLIDER DEPLOY!! … start again. The random conditions were bad enough with the flashing but add this into it and blood pressure spikes.

Once a “market” imbalance is known, it vanishes relatively quickly. This imbalance was due to scribing being cheaper so there was an influx of new scribes leveling so real demand for pigments shot up. Add to that the two dye packs from the 80 booster if you own HoT and that’s an immediate influx of raw materials. If you know which dyes make which colors and the amount of pigments each quality type produces on average, it’s then just math to find the dyes with the largest returns.
This is why TP mavens rarely talk about a new hot market until it’s been picked clean of the easy money.

I seem to remember that exotics do produce a higher average number of ectos over rares. I think it was roughly 1.25 from exotics Vs 0.90 for rares. But the cost difference between buying rares and exotics is too great to bother.
I suspect you’re thinking about the difference between mystic salvage kits and black lion kits.
Kit quality: A controlled test reports that Master’s and Mystic Salvage Kits yield about 0.875 ecto/rare, and Black Lion Salvage Kits are anecdotally reported to give about 1.25 ecto/rare:
Ah, that’s right, my bad.

The design choice the devs implemented is convenience of taking only one inventory slot with a lot of charges but with a potential real world cost (3 Mystic Forge Stones needed for a 250 charge Mystic Salvage Kit) or fewer charges, occupying more inventory slots if you want to more charges but for purely in-game currency.
Doing what you suggest OP works out great for the player but not ANet who wants the 135-150 gems for the convenience. They decided that cosmetics and convenience are where they are going to make their income. Better that than a +5 sword of Pwned.
RIP City of Heroes
It was needed considering infusion prices.
RIP City of Heroes
There is an argument however that why does it need another purpose other that it’s designed for just because “you” don’t use that area? If you don’t want to promote, craft mystic weapons or make precursors, oh well.
Although I do like the 2 shards to make a tome idea a lot.

Yea … where to start. I would recommend reading the following two patch notes …

which is the HoT patch notes, ignore the Halloween event info.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/info/updates/Game-Update-Notes-April-19-2016
which is this weeks which “fixed” issues with HoT.
The major wiki topics are

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mastery
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Revenant
I’m about playing what you feel like, forget whatever is “meta”. Since you like hitting things you may like Revenant. Not sure if it’s a class you should instantly level to 80 in but … it’s the ele of heavy armor melee.

(edited by Behellagh.1468)
I’ve never used tomes to get shards. Anyways the thread is about other ways to spend them and for those players who still key farm once a week, 2 shard to 1 tome makes sense.
RIP City of Heroes
I will argue that. While the most money from salvaging a single item is from brown dyes from a % profit perspective it’s far from being the most profitable. For example lets say you can get Charcoal Dye for 1g20s, your profit is roughly 1g. However if you get 33 Scarlet Dyes (red pigment) for the same 1g20s your profit is 3.8g.
And since fine dyes drop more frequently than rare, there is a greater likelihood that you can get lots of inexpensive fine dyes for your coin.
RIP City of Heroes
Mine’s named after a plant. Surprise! And yes it’s a single word name.
RIP City of Heroes
Minor cost to reactivate, 10 copper per level in that craft, so if you are reactivating a level 400 Jeweler, it’s 40 silver.
RIP City of Heroes
ANet declared dungeon development was over nearly two years ago, waiting for a new dungeon still is just silly. They aren’t making anymore, they are working on fractals instead. They did however restore some of the dungeon rewards they took away when HoT launched and added a repeatable achievement that pays 5 gold for every 8 unique paths completed.
OP, go read the patch notes from this week if you are looking for what changed for a particular play mode including sPvP.
RIP City of Heroes
Seems like there was a “Heart of Maguuma” (I think it was called) miner gathering daily in there, but no home instance there.
I do like having new dailies to do, but not necessarily at the expense of the old ones.
But if you belong to a guild and they have a GH with the mat nodes, those do count. Did that last night.
RIP City of Heroes
Then I would stop promoting mats and save those shards for a rainy day as well. Shards are used for MF mats from the attendant for MF “crafting”. If you don’t want to have anything to do with the MF then the shards are pretty much useless.
RIP City of Heroes
I honestly can’t say I’ve ever seen a daily for gathering in a main city. The region a main city is found in sure but never a main city. Now gathering in your home instance of a city in the region specified for the daily did count toward it.
RIP City of Heroes
I use the three from dailies every day to promote mats. But I have no reason to get rid of the 1000+ I have on top of these. Saving them for a rainy day.
RIP City of Heroes
I own HoT. I have a level 80 (actually 3). One has been to VB long enough to get gliders unlocked and have never returned.
I don’t want to be directed to play on HoT maps since I don’t really have a character that’s been playing in HoT zones.
Yes, I am very likely a minority in this but that’s why I’m less than thrilled with HoT activity
RIP City of Heroes
That market was way too unbalanced. If you can buy dye by sell price, salvage it, sell pigment for buy price and still make a lot of gold it is definitely wrong.
No more so than buying white/blue/green gear, salvage it and sell the mats for twice as much as the piece of gear. But not enough people can be bothered to do that or simply don’t know that’s the better choice than just selling it on the TP to the high bidder or Gods forbid an NPC vendor.
RIP City of Heroes
Just because I have HoT, doesn’t mean I want a daily on a HoT map.
RIP City of Heroes
It really depends on how loose your definition of P2W is. I would say any MMO with gem($$)->gold system with an trade post is somewhat P2W. Luckily with GW2 everyone ends ups roughly in the same spot stat-wise after playing the game normally so any advantage in throwing money to shortcut to ascended gear isn’t huge.
It also depends on what your definition of “win” is too. If “winning” to you is slapping on the rarest and most expensive skins possible then GW2 is very much P2W. There is also the thing with HoT specializations being better in most cases than vanilla.
Except that can be said about any game with a 3rd party selling gold to players. Just because a company is trying to get a share of that money doesn’t make it P2W, otherwise every MMO that a gold selling site sells game currency for is P2W.
RIP City of Heroes
I can see it now…so many threads lamenting the ‘missing’ Alpine BLs that were ‘promised’ in this patch. /smh
They were never “promised” for this patch, and anyone who thinks they were hasn’t been paying attention. But yeah I know we’ll get those complaints anyways.
It’s only been confirmed that they are coming back, and will have the HoT upgrades, but they never stated when exactly they will be back. The desert borderlands are getting some fixes this coming patch.
But when has fact ever supersede often repeated and possibly intentional misinformation? I think within a couple of pages in MO’s thread the blurring of when Alpine was returning started. Doesn’t take too many rounds of “telephone” to distort fact and that distortion becomes “fact”.
RIP City of Heroes
Shortbow was likely the one furthest along for whatever reason.
Last year they over hyped and, open to debate, under delivered. Now it’s on the down low with the hope the changes we’ll see, outside of what we expected, will surprise us.
Of course the naysayers are already prepping to complain about the lack of things that weren’t even suggested as coming for this release.

Yep, expecting that. Also expecting the usual “why did you fix that while this is still broken” along with a rousing chorus of “y u nerf <profession> while <other profession> is still OP”?
Lets not forget another set of BL ticket skins and an outfit or two with the complaints about how everything is all about the Gem Shop.
Break out the post patch Bingo card.

I use WinAut, it’s pretty straight forward.
Just record the secret code somewhere physical (notepad, post-it note) so when you accidentally delete winauth or drive crashes or some other mishap it’s easy to restore.

Of the three characters I’ve leveled in PvE, Mesmer, Thief and Elementalist, I found the Ele to be the easiest. Maybe because my first was a Mesmer or I simply know how to play now but I felt powerful in my Ele.
RIP City of Heroes
That’s pretty much it. You could burn your leveling tomes with a level 80, that gives you one SS for each.

RIP City of Heroes
As a player who paid the full $60 for both the original game and the expansion, I personally feel I have gotten more than my money’s worth for the game. With all the permanent content, Living Story, and festivals, I feel my money was well spent. I am not the least bit bitter about the core game becoming available as an endless F2P trial. In fact, I actually think it’s a really good idea and will encourage people to try it out (after which, I think they will decide they want to try the paid content and buy the expansion).
That doesn’t actually seem to be happening. I don’t have the link, but I read an article recently in which GW2’s people had indicated that they weren’t receiving sales in the numbers that they’d hoped for from having gone F2P.
If you could find where that came from I’d love to read it. I didn’t hear anything about it (which is surprising given the tendency for any news, and especially bad news, to make it’s way to this forum) and I’m always interested in what Anet think about how GW2 is doing.
I did try googling it but all I could find was an article on Ten Ton Hammer where one guy is surprised he hadn’t come across a press release about HoT sales, assumes it’s because it didn’t sell well and makes guesses about why that might be.
It was part of the quarterly investor’s conference call for the 4Q/annual results. Sadly the service NCSOFT to host the CC doesn’t keep these around indefinitely so it’s no longer available to listen to, fortunately I downloaded it. I’ll try to transcribe. Excuse the punctuation, the translator is talking really fast and it’s not obvious where sentences end.
Q: I would like to ask you a question about GW2. It seems that the performance of the expansion pack is a bit weaker than what you have expected. So in terms of the business model, do you have any strategies for them to beef up in game item sales?
A: So to talk about the GW2 performance, it is weaker than what we had expected however I think that where the issue currently lies is that before the actual expansion pack was launched there was a free play area that we had opened and make available however if you look at the conversion of those players who are playing for free, to actual convert over to the paid expansion pack, that conversion rate has actually not been as high as we had hoped or expected. However in terms of the gems sales and also the item sales versus the amount of active players we think that area is okay but it’s more the issue of people converting over to the paid expansion pack that we had not seen come up to the level we had hoped.
So therefore to address that issue there are two strategies we are trying to look at. The first is to actually induced more conversion, to look at what is actually hindering people from converting over and trying to address that with events or maybe in game systems to try to promote more conversion that would be the first. And the second area of our strategy is that if you look at the actual expansion pack versus you know what our expectations were at the launching time versus what the response has been from our users, I think that there is a gap that we need to address so with regards to the direction of the content updates going forward and also the frequency in updates, this is something that we are currently reviewing and reconsidering at this time.
If you are interested, I’ll look into trying to convert it into an MP3 (South Korea loves proprietary formats from Microsoft that are DRMed) and find some nice site where I can post it anonymously.

P2W generally refers to buying a stat/skill advantage that others can’t get without also buying. And it’s buying from the company, not paying another player to assist you to complete some task for reward as some have listed here.
There really isn’t any Pay to Win with the exception of Elite Specializations generally dominating PvP and seeming P2W to F2P/P4F PvPers.
RIP City of Heroes
It’s the one thing most people arguing against GW2 being p2w bring up (myself included). Even with the relatively minor hassle of elite specialisations being locked behind 1 expansion update (which is unfortunate, agreed), the game is far from pay2win.
Everyone arguing the opposite is doing it out of:
1.) interest in getting a reaction from other players or using exageration to get a point accross
2.) have never actually played any pay2win games, especially MMO based ones
3.) both of the above
As of right now the three editions of GW2 could be ranked as follows:
F2P – very extensive trial. For people who enjoy the story aspects and lore it’s even enough to never buy the game. Just run through the story free of charge.
GW2vanilla – pure vanilla game with all the free content which was added over 3 years of the life cycle. Available multiple times for as low as 10$ which basically payed for itsself after 1-2 months of only login bonuses (compared to buying gems with those 10$)
GW2HoT – the new B2P base. Any new players will get this as the core game. Still does not require any real $ purchses besides the game to fully enjoy GW2.
But one of the intended points of the P4F/F2P version, along with the e-sports, was to grow the exposure of the Game to cheap PvP players, who are having to struggle against the elite professions, making seem to them P2W.
Yes the intention is to convert these players into B2P but … because the enjoy the game and not because they feel they need to simply to get to the higher PvP ranks. So I can see where some of this P2W notion comes from. P2W certainly isn’t in PvE outside of what is normally comes with of any MMO expansion.
RIP City of Heroes
Read the patch notes on Tuesday. Mr. O’Brien sees no reason to talk and promise before something actually ships. Maybe if we’re lucky the patch notes will be up in time to read them before the patch finishes loading.
I don’t blame him. This community screams bloody murder no matter what he tries to do.
Someone will always scream bloody murder on a balance patch, there is no win there ever for the devs.
RIP City of Heroes
They changed ascended insignia’s to be cloth and leather instead of just cloth. That significantly increases the amount of leather needed for all ascended armors.
And not all leather boots salvage into just cloth, most actually salvage into just leather. However items that are crafted my salvage into cloth due to the cloth used to craft the insignia.
Want leather? Buy bags that drop it or leather armor in the level range that yields the tier of leather you want and salvage it. Want it cheap, place bids on medium armor pieces whose high bid is about the same as the leather’s sell price since on average you salvage more than one leather per item. It’s not rocket surgery.
