The ‘on swap’ still has an internal cooldown, so even if an Elementalist flipped through all their attunements as fast as possible it would still restrict the triggering. Those with two weapon sets can have two different ‘on swap’ effects; those with one weapon set only get one effect. I’d say it evens out well enough.

I’m wondering why the OP feels he can’t play HOT zones the way he plays normal tyria zones, because that’s how I play them. Well all of them except Dragon Stand.
I have found it to be physically impossible to play HOT zones, in their entirety, the same way as I played core Tyria zones pre expansion.
Not really sure I understand that. How is it physically impossible.
This is how I play maps in core. I go onto a map, I run around, I harvest, I do events as I come upon them, or skip the ones I don’t like.
In Gendarran Fields, they upped the difficulty of one of the main events, and I often skip it because I’m not interested, but there are plenty of other events around.
So how is it impossible to play the zone the same way?
Keep in mind that I said how I play, not how you play.
I played core zones without gliding, mushroom jumping, having to hunt for mastery points in order to progress through a map, multi-tiered maps that rendered the minimap nearly useless, and so on.
You haven’t really said what you DO like- is it flat maps? I know the verticality bothers some people, but as mentioned earlier Ember Bay and Bitterfrost Frontier are pretty flat. You don’t need the masteries to progress there.
HoT Story and LW3 vs HoT Map Compl

I was confused as well cuz I seemed to have somehow jumped from killing Mordremoth to Bloodstone Fen, and there’s these NPCs talking to me about stuff I don’t recall ever seeing. As far as I can tell, I supposed to go to the raid, Forsaken Thicket, before Bloodstone Fen?
Anyway, now I’m in BF and can’t do much cuz I never leveled up my gliding. Ah well!
You don’t have to do the raid, the story there was mainly just giving build up to the White Mantle coming back. There were some ‘current events’, small updates in between HoT and the Living Story that were about how ley lines were more active and dragon minions were appearing (minions of Primordus, Jormag, and Kralkatorrik). We jumped to Bloodstone Fen because of all the loose magic flying around (Mordy died and released all his dragon magic into the world) and on our way there the Bloodstone exploded.
Hope that helps with clarity!
The spvp season ends February 6th, I’d expect it won’t be until then that a new episode behinds, else they conflict attention between two big areas they are promoting.
Unless it’s a work load issue I doubt that would be a problem, most people are either mostly PvP or mostly PvE players and aren’t bothered about the others events
I play both. I do PvE while I wait for PvP Q. So no. I’m mot mostly one or the other.
Hence why I said most people
She is using the W key to move forward and space bar for jumping, and she is using the mouse to control the direction and camera angle. Holding down the right mouse button while slightly moving the mouse will (with default settings) change the angle the camera is facing, and (if used while running) will also change the direction in which you are running.
That’s how I do jumping puzzles (especially this one), as well. Basically, my right mouse button is just being held down the entire time, with me moving the mouse to the direction I need to go. And I’m either holding down or carefully tapping the W key to move forward as needed. It works well for me (a lot better than slowly turning using the other direction keys), even with my own small hands.
I do this using the same method. I have been able to complete this JP in years past. I have although ran into something odd happening this year I have not had happen in years past.
On the path where you are avoiding the giant snowballs…on the last stretch before you make the final jumps to the end…I have been running right in the middle…and all of a sudden I am sliding down the side…i haven’t dodged, or stopped or changed direction…its the last segment where you run and jump to the “spilled” presents…I am running up the path and its like I run off the side. Its happened every time I have tried this year. Definitely odd.
I can understand and sympathize with the frustration, but give the method Rose and Black Iris have suggested a try. Frustration is a hard thing to handle, but keep trying…work each segment and you will get a pattern down. I always run the path on the far right. It may not be the best choice, but its the one I learned best(and was easiest for me) and I can complete the snowflake section pretty easily now to get to the midway point and be safe.
Good luck!
I’ve had that happen a few times, I find that bunny hopping up the slope helps prevent sliding
Jormag is supposedly nearby, if he’s drawing magic into himself like Taimi suggests then there would be a lot of magic floating around
Why is home instance farm such a good thing? I thought they were just a few nodes once a day? Someone please explain!
It’s getting loot you wouldn’t normally get otherwise. I have:
Basic Ore Nodes
Basic Lumber Nodes
Basic Plant Nodes
Basic Cloth Rack
Basic Leather Rack
Quartz Crystal Node
King Sized Candy Corn Node
Airship Cargo
Exalted Chest
Crystallized Supply Cache
Found Bandit Chest
Wintersday Gift Tree
When there’s times I’m not playing a lot, I wouldn’t normally get cargo, chests, etc every day. Crafting supplies gradually build up when you’re not actively crafting anything, the lower tiers I usually wouldn’t get from salvaging and would have to go farm anyway. Off season festival items like the candy corn and wintersday tree let you build up stores year round to sell off at high time.
It’s not a huge instant profit but rather convenient when you’re not actively playing in the areas you’d get the loot from.
I’m with Nightshade on the impossibility of the JP. It has to do with how I control movement in the game. I’ve tried now and then to WASD and my left hand is just too clumsy to control multiple keys at once. Yes I can touch type at a good speed but that is one key at a time. So I mouse move and without time to lift my mouse and put it back in the middle of the pad, I run out of room.
I did one time get past all the melting flakes. I don’t remember what happened next, only that I didn’t get much further. It’s not a matter of not knowing the path, I’ve seen enough videos, it’s a fast-speed-control issue.
Speaking of videos, here is one. I link it not because it is a 4 year old doing the JP (before people go lol, so easy kids can do it, I remind those people that Mozart first composed music when five years old and that doesn’t mean music composition is super easy), but because it gives a very clear shot of her use of keyboard and mouse.
Now I know that my hands, while small, are larger than hers. Could someone perhaps give me a break down of what keys she is pressing to do what, and what role the mouse has? I might be able to replicate it if I know exactly what I am supposed to press when.
And then if I got the JP done enough times, I could consider the 10K drinks and perhaps have the shoulders by next year.
How I do it is have my left index finger on W for forward movement, hold and release as necessary; left thumb on the space bar to jump; right hand uses the mouse to change the camera orientation (holding the right click). Rather than change directions with ASD I hold W and adjust the camera angle to run the direction I want.
Daily Fractals- the 2 recommended scales and the kitten specific fractals
It would depend on if everyone is fighting the humans at once. Sylvari are generally peaceful, but if they were to attack a race it would likely be the Asura, as they were the ones to imprison and analyze Sylvari at the beginning of their race. Charr might have the biggest beef with humans given their history, but Hoelbrak is in the way. Norn are born and raised warriors; I’d say their culture and magical connection to the Spirits could rival Charr technology. Charr would logically attack the Norn first. Assuming the Norn win, the Charr taken out means they will only have an enemy on one side (to the west) while their other side (to the east) is enemy free.
Humans are fairly out of the way with Divinity’s Reach being so far north. With their political unrest I could see them trying to make alliances with either the Sylvari or the Norn. The Sylvari because we’ve always been peaceable; Asura would be unlikely to ally themselves given their superior attitude. Norn because we haven’t had major political problems with them and we could have a common enemy with the Charr.
My guess is humans would try to make allies as well as capture Claw Island and Lion’s Arch. As Kryta surrounds most of Lion’s Arch, humans would have the best chance of taking it. Of course there’s the Asura gates to worry about but if I were a commander of one of the races, I’d remove the gate from my home city. Prioritize safety of the home over the route to the enemy.
I haven’t noticed any effect from anything resembling what you speak of. I’ve already spent 60+ hours in here easily with 30 hours in one sitting. Just recently I had one Charr doing it to everybody screaming “SNIPED!” when people would fall. If you see people consistently doing it to others and you want to make an attempt at some kind of retribution screenshot the chat and file a complaint. Webster define harass as to annoy or bother (someone) in a constant or repeated way so this falls under the guise of a legitimate reason to report them.
Is that why I’ve seen people getting randomly targeted? Because I have not noticed any effect from it
No, players are being targeted if someone thinks they’re hopping.
If you see someone at the start, and then suddenly at the end in a few seconds, target them. Then you can keep an eye on them to see if they’re really hopping, and then you can report them for cheating/botting/etcNo. Them targeting is their attempt to troll. They’re trying to make you fall by providing a distraction.
why would a red crosshair distract you, though? If you fail because of that, maybe jumping puzzles weren’t your thing in the first place.
Just look at the course and your own character, ignore everyone else, crosshair or not
For many people Winter Wonderland is a sharp learning curve. Learning the path well enough to be efficient can take some time; I know I spent hours on it last year before I could run with any sort of efficiency. If someone targets you unexpectedly it could be startling, you could pause or mis-jump
I don’t know why everyone always wants a new race as well as more armor sets, it will be one or the other. ANet already has enough trouble making armors that almost fit the current races. It would take them even longer to make new armor sets if they also had to fit on a 6th race, which means we would be getting even fewer armors in the game.
I would love a new race but I’m fairly certain we’ll only get one if Gw3 becomes a thing. With that said, I hope they open up the Tengu area as an explorable area/city (the large walled in space with Tengu guards all around it in the maguuma/kryta area)
And I don’t THINK I can’t do this puzzle. I KNOW I can’t.
You’ve completely psyched yourself out mentally now. Have you watched tutorial videos? Asked tips from other players? What makes the snowflake part hard, can you not run fast enough?
I was in Tangled Depths yesterday, and a couple times when I was downed a project of Aurene appeared next to me before disappearing a second later. Is this a bug? Or a part of the story?
The spvp season ends February 6th, I’d expect it won’t be until then that a new episode behinds, else they conflict attention between two big areas they are promoting.
Unless it’s a work load issue I doubt that would be a problem, most people are either mostly PvP or mostly PvE players and aren’t bothered about the others events
The theory I came up with is Quaggans didn’t want their young to swim too deep and get lost (even if there’s no real reason I’m sticking with that)
Yesterday an engineer managed to drop a net turret at the start before his skills locked. It burned and immobilized everyone- those who didn’t die from the immobile had too little health to make it to the midway heal point. So annoying
market flippers should be punished for this for trying to make profit
People know how to play the economy. They aren’t cheating or using IRL money, they are using the laws of supply and demand to their advantage. They shouldn’t be punished. If anything there should be more ways to get fragments- like being able to salvage down higher tiers, for example.
It adds a sort of ‘luxury tax’ to the items on the TP. You can wait and craft it yourself, or buy the items for higher than they cost of the TP to save you time.
Then there’s the added bonus of wasting loading a map because you joined with 2 minutes left in bell choir, or the jumping puzzle, or insert festival game here. Because it happens everywhere.
AFAIK, all instances of a map are on the same timer, so you wouldn’t have found an alternative map with more time anyway. The map doesn’t kick you out when it refreshes, so your best option is to sit tight until reset. You then at least avoid getting the “map is full” issue again.
I discovered they are not actually! I was in the Winter Wonderland instance yesterday when the timer ran out. Instead of resetting I got the message saying ‘the instance you are trying to join is full.’ I waited about 30 seconds and it stayed on the time out pause. I exited WW and reentered, thinking I’d join one with 29 minutes or so left, but where I was put had 18 minutes left.
Side note (not directed at you) with that, why is it telling me it’s full when the instance is supposed to reset? Half the people who were in there with me disappeared, so either they were reset or they left at that moment. Is this some sort of bug or unfortunate timing with new people joining? This has happened twice so far
My initial comment stated how I’d never seen TT completed before- after reading all the comments I’d like to say thank you to those who named communities who run it! I’d love to get the mastery points for it (I’ve been three Tyrian mastery points short for a year now) and I feel inspired to find a time to do it with a community
I hope that this can be implemented. Bell Choir is one of my favorite activities but all the waiting around is tedious.
Wintersday is 4 weeks long, and we’re only 5 days in. They have plenty of time to put some up
I have NEVER in 4 years of playing seen a successful Triple Trouble. One time I participated in killing a single wurm, but that was it. It feels like Octovine in Auric Basin was meant to be a sort of replacement (different groups fighting simultaneously, different mechanics at each one, having to coordinate with the timer)
My wishes are(brace yourself is a quite long list ) :
-
-Going to Kourna and elona other then the Crystal desert
-Ride the Junundu like in Gw1
-Have the Dervish coming back as an elite spec with the scythe as a new weapon
-Have the Ritualist as the supporter elite spec for the Necromancer.
-Proper single mission introducion to the elite specs.
-A branching, interesting and long storyline, with meaningful choices like the main story(the orders storylines), so that it makes sense to replay the full story. I’m missing this so much in Hot…I just played it once and that was it.Humm and that’s it for now.. well it wasn’t that long of a list in the end
THANK YOU for someone else wanting to see Elona besides the Crystal Desert. Everyone goes crazy wanting to see Cantha again (which I still fully support) but Elona was always my favorite. I went back to play GW1 again and was loving my Dervish.
Totally agree with you on the story parts as well, I only cleared the HoT story once- besides repeat instances for achievements- and have no desire to do the same story again. More options would be a godsend
I can’t begin to count the amount of times devs have explained how much effort it is each year because the system is constantly changing and all events and contents need to be changed along.
Sorry, I didn’t think of the skill changes etc. that might indeed affect festive events. My bad.
The SYSTEM changes too, the very base code that the entire game runs on. It’s not just skill changes. Part of the long content droughts we had were due to them making changes/updating the system
Except there is literally a Skritt dressed as a Christian saint in the game. ¯\(?)/¯
Where exactly is it? My point was that they aren’t going to put a crucifix or baby jesus in the game, anything obviously religious.
The reward for making a legendary is the legendary.
Exactly what I was going to comment. I understand the mentality OP, I’m an achiever and I like getting points and titles just for the sake of having them. But you seem to be getting very worked up over it, just be proud of the weapon you have and find another title to work towards. All legendaries have some sort of affect that people will notice- you’ll still be recognized as having made one.
Winter Wonderland is considered to be a PvP instance by the game system. I doubt they could disable it there without disabling it in all of PvP
It’s not a menorah.. because it’s a candelabra. As a general rule games like GW stay away from religious symbols
further the game is nice. graphics and sound but sometimes i want more for my work and not only the looks. its that i have a very nice guild with friendly and helpfull ppl. so i stay. sometimes guildmissions with discord. the new zone is nice i farmed 1 day with 6 chars for berrys (also with bad elementalist, what a fail weak class. yes i have good dps but its useless when killed by 5+ mobs and cant heal that much. and water is too weak)
A class is only as weak as the person playing it my friend. Eles can heal more than just about anyone
Ikr. I find Ele one of the easiest berry farming characters I have, sceptre/warhorn fresh air and everything dies with ease.
Scepter/warhorn is my main as well! I’ve yet to have trouble staying alive in the new areas

1) They’re more powerful now
2) Most of the Pact got wrecked by Mordy so we’re trying to avoid several more legions of death
3) If we killed them now Anet would have nothing to sell with the next expansion
Your Charr is amazing! I hope I see you running around in game, happy Wintersday!
Koda’s Warmth gives you an aura. Compared to some of the other auras prices on the TP (phospholuminescent between 1,500 and 5,000g, preserved queen bee 2,000g) you’re getting a good deal
Video on Dulfy on what the aura looks like: https://youtu.be/qa2oPoU-VhU
You can use it on a level 80 character to get all the items that go with it
It does start leveling up automatically, if you have finished leveling other Masteries, or even if you just have not enough Mastery Points to spend on other Mastery levels.
It does not, however, switch the ‘active’ tick mark over.
That’s what happened for me, I have all my other masteries done and when I checked the tab I’d already filled the XP bar for Koda’s Flame without realizing it. Just had to click and confirm spending the mastery points.

When you agro him, every about 10s or so, a red arrow will show up under him. The red arrow indicates where he will run, kinda like the charge the Bloomhunger does, just with a red arrow showing where. You want the little adds between him and you, so he runs them over. There are 4 little adds to each ice core. When each of the 4 adds are killed by the ice beat running them down, the core will break and Braham will run over and pick up the scroll and say its the wrong one. Rinse repeat till the last ice core is down, then Braham picks up the last scroll, shoots the fire arrow and removes the 99% reduced damage buff, and then just dps and CC as normal. Watch for the freeze tell, raises his chest a bit and his charge, the red arrow.
Click spoiler for it. Hope that helps.
Thank you so much! Going to restart and try that now

The final fight in Frozen Out is very unclear as to what you’re supposed to do- or maybe it’s just me. I’ve only seen bits of what people have said, are you supposed to have the champion run over the minions? At what point? I ran around with him for five minutes, moving him all over the place and he never seemed to take any damage.
Any advice would be appreciated!
Judging by the trend of Bloodstone Fen and Ember Bay, there most likely will be
Living Story is building up to the next expansion, aka your end game content.
Brawler runes give you the same power, toughness rather than ferocity, and every heal skill grants you might. Warrior runes give vitality, power, and -20% weapon swap (for eles this would be attunement swap). If you want a more defensive stat combo I love Trooper runes with tempest (toughness, vitality, shouts remove a condition).
The rest of the legendary set got delayed so long because making the story took too much time. I wouldn’t hold your breath
For Raids, PvP, and WvW: Join Guilds that do group content and are willing to teach. Many will advertise in game, on the forums, on reddit, or on other sites. Just search on google.
I too, missed Living Story 1 and the Battle of Lion’s Arch. However part of LS1’s hook was ‘you have to be here to experience’. They do seem to have plans to bring them back in Fractals, however- you may still get to do a version of it (Tower of Nightmares drops on Monday).
Precursors and Black Lion Chests: It’s random. Each time you try for a special item it’s an independently generated number. Say you were to roll a dice- Statistically speaking if you rolled the dice enough you would get every number eventually right? But it’s very possible to never roll a six. And it’s also possible for one person to roll a 6 five times. I’ve played since launch and I’ve never gotten a pre or anything particularly special from BLCs. If you want your money to be worth it get a guaranteed item, like skins.
Speaking of money- You support the game by buying things, your reward is the items you buy. Nothing more. Any sort of reward for the amount of money you spend on a game would make it pay to win and therefore be unfair. Even a title seems unfair to me- I don’t have thousands of IRL money to spend on a game and would hate being blocked from the achievement.
Under the description of the totems, you say up to 2 can be out at the same time. Under the trait Elemental Power it says ’having all 4 totems out grants a …"
Is the max 2 or 4? Regardless, I would say the max would be one out at a time. Even for a 6 second duration that is a LOT of stat buffs without any skill sacrifice (ie how Warriors equip banners- each one takes a utility slot). I can just imagine someone quickly flipping through the attunements and stacking totems (normally attunements take 1.5 seconds to recharge, 10 seconds if it was the attunement you just switched from)
However I do really love the concept and enjoy the suggest of an earth field; it seems odd there’s not one in game already.
New to the game, wondering who to boost
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Black Iris Flowers.3418
As everyone else said, definitely level one character to 80 normally and then I’d say level each character after that to at least 20 before you boost so you can get a feel for the class mechanics. Core classes Guardian is probably your best bet for group support. If you count elite specs I’d say Tempest (elementalist) or Druid (ranger)
Not every Commander takes themselves quite so seriously
You weren’t made Commander because of how seriously you took yourself, but to save the world…
“Excuse me, I know there are dragons to kill but I’m going to spend a lot of time and money to get a Quaggen in a Bowl toy for myself.”
As I said, I don’t have a problem with this type of item just that it is a Legendary Weapon.
You could argue then, that almost any activity not Pact related is a ‘waste of commander time’
“How dare you go play Tixx’s Infinirarium during Winterday, there are dragons to fight Commander!”
I have never been a fan of shields in any game, so when I feel like I have to equip them, I tend to favor the less traditional ones (SAB and Lovestruck are my faves). For me, Quaggan Shield is absolutely perfect.
Now I have to decide if making a legendary for a weapon that I only use on two alts is worth the time and effort.
@Felahr: You are being ridiculously overdramatic. Just because you find the shield’s theme to be silly doesn’t mean that it’s “ruining” the idea of legendaries. If you think a collection of weapons that includes a glorified pop gun, a rainbow unicorn spewing toy bow, and an actual disco ball hasn’t already shown its hand as being for a wide range of players, then you haven’t been paying very much attention.
While I am not going to be over-dramatic about it, I do wonder sometimes about Anet’s perspective on Legendaries. On one hand, they are probably the most difficult things to get in-game and that is why they are called “Legendary”, but on the other hand the goofy ones are not very “Legendary” in a Fantasy way.
I don’t mind the introduction of really silly things in the game (vs the story), but I think what Felahr might be objecting to is Anet taking a group of incredibly rare and hard to get items and trivializing some of them in this way. Some of us really like the story and want our characters to be Heroic. Now a percentage of these already super-rare weapons are not a choice for us.
I think that goofy things should be exclusively Festival, Gemstore, or BL ticket items, not something a character actively pursues in the game world. I can’t see “The Commander” taking time away from saving the world in order to obtain a toy “quaggan in a bowl”.
Not every Commander takes themselves quite so seriously
Warhorn has some slow skills and take positioning, mobile targets tend to move out of the fields. However you have a fire and water field for aoe might or healing, you get boons from 4/8 skills (might, regen, swiftness, protection, plus magnetic aura from earth 4), and Cyclone (air 4) is one of the best CCs Ele’s have for breaking stun bar. I personally main warhorn for the might stacks (fire 4 directly and fire 5 is a field), strong water heals, and Cyclone’s swiftness boost and CC.
The best thing about focus is invulnerability from Obsidian Flesh. Air 4 and Earth 4 protect from projectiles. Air 5 is also a strong CC but not as strong as Cyclone. I don’t like Fire 4 as the target area is quite small, but Fire 5 grants an aura to synergize with Invigorating Torrents (tempest trait: auras give regen and vigor). Water skills are why I don’t use focus. A simple chill (water 4) is very weak given the 25 sec cooldown and Comet (water 5) takes a long time to drop.
Conclusion: Warhorn has strong heals, more might stacking potential, and a strong CC but poor positioning can be punishing. Focus has a valuable invulnerability skill, condi clear, projectile protection, and a decent CC, but no healing and a smaller burn area.
