Hello everyone,
I would just like to report a possible bug that I experienced with the personal. Lack lion trader. I attempted to use one in lions arch, and as soon as the trader appeared next to me it caused my game to crash. I logged back in immediately and the trader was gone
I was wondering if anyone else experienced this issue.
Thank you.
Good idea on the thread.
I would like for stealth to be made so that as soon as a thief goes stealth auto-attack stops until you reactivate it. It’s a great challenge to set up a backstab on moving, dodging, players and mobs, but it is not fun when you stealth and auto attack automatically pops you out of stealth before you have a chance to get set up.
go to settings and tick on stop auto attacking on target change
Thanks I’ll check this out, but does it work if I’m keeping the same target? Does stealth act as a target reassignment? That’s the issue I’m having in 1v1 situations of when I’m already fighting a mob or player and hop into stealth. It doesn’t happen all the time but of course it happens at the worst time haha.
Excellent thank you, like someone said above even knowing this and it was still a good read.

Ahaha Rukia Put it Perfectly. “You are going to die anyway”
A thief going stealth to stomp a player is not an exploit. It costs a thief a utility skill, or his heal, or his initiative to go stealth.
Thiefs aren’t the only ones that can/are doing it. Mesmers are doing it, anyone with a stealth ability. This is a tactic.
Yeah logged on today when I got home from work and I am noticing this big time now. My heartseekers even while next to a stationary object are missing like crazy.
Actually for caltrops I trained in that they drop when I dodge which completely saves me from even having to use that as a utility option t is great to have.
I completely agree with you on sig of shadows the movement speed boost is great, but I’m actually thinking of dropping it for SPVP as the combat is usually close encountered. WvW would never drop it, going to do some testing on dropping it for SPVP
I think personally blinding powder is amazing. It’s great to have and stealths you immediately. But the poison for dps and maybe needle trap if you are looking for more conditions but traps seem pretty hard to reliably trigger in SPVP where everyone is moving around, unless you dump it right in the middle of the clock tower or something.
Hmm this is weird when I posted this I noticed something the IA that made me start experimenting with it. I was able to cross gaps, use it to go up steep mountains, down mountains… It was amazing. I left that zone and haven’t been able to replicate it since… Idk it was weird. The gap crossing was from 1 hill to another though… It was great, I assumed they fixed it when they changed Heartseeker, by after trying to replicate the effects again today I wasn’t able to.
D/D is actually really effective for fighting hard mobs for area reasons, you get cloak and dagger, an instant stealth to break aggro, land backstabs which do great damage in mobs btw. Not only that but you get a ranged cripple with D/D to kite if needed, also an extra evade (blossoming death) that makes you have multiple dodges on top of your vigor dodges. Plus blossoming death also does damage and is great for stacking bleeds. Not only all those benefits but with the great damage capability of D/D fights don’t last long and you are blowing through mobs quickly. P/P damage is away under D/D damage.
Wat blueprint said (Semper Fi). Dual daggers, ftw.
Semper Fi brother thanks.
The level 80 content isn’t going anywhere. Reroll another toon if you want and enjoy it, don’t stress. People are going to be running dungeons and doing engame things for a long time you are not going to be missing anything. You already have an 80 it will take you no time to get your thief there. One suggestion though, thief is my main and it is a kitten ton of fun playing, don’t rush through t but learn the class and enjoy it
just a suggestion though.
I read through most of your text then saw where you said you don’t have haste. IMO for a pistol wil spike build you really need haste. The combo takes a while to execute and haste helps you get every hit in. I’m not a fan of pistol whip myself, but I equate it to hundred blades in that the majority of the battle is trying to lock someone in place for the duration of the combo. I haven’t personally used it with scorpion wire so that might help, but then again it just pulls them in, it doesn’t immobilize or lock them in. Also while you have basilisk venom on cool down you are not going to have any way to lock them in for that combo.
I’m pretty sure the way they work is that you have all the parts of the runs unlocked when each piece of your gear has a rune on it, of you only have 6 pieces with tunes on it you only get 6/8 buffs. So every piece with a fine added unlocks when level of those buffs.
Op movement and circle strafing will allow you to land cloak and dagger on players with your eyes closed. As a thief You Have Control Over the Battlefield, everyone else is fighting on your terms. You circle strafe the enemy and attack them while they can’t hit you, you CANNOT let it be the other way around. Playing extremely aggressively on the thief works wonders. Control the fight with your stealth options. Pick up blinding powder, that is an amazing utility skill it blinds them and immediately stealths you. You have the power to keep the enemy REACTING to you at all times this is key. You do not want to be forced to react to someone else.
If you are getting stomped an amazing trick to get away is blinding powder, then immediately switch to shortbow and get off 2 infiltrators arrows in a direction while stealthed, you will be LONG gone before they even know what happened.

Alright Op I posted trying to help you earlier but you ignored it.
It someone is kiting you, SWITCH weapons to shortbow, or D/D whichever and use a CRIPPLE. Cripple is one of the best tools we thieves have to stop kiters and runners. D/D has a ranged cripple (number 4) and shortbow has one as well (number 3). Pick up signet of shadows gives you a 25% movement increase. Don’t worry about the signet that returns 1 initiative every 10 seconds because when you look at build options there are a lot more efficient ways to return initiative, you can spec for steal to give 3 init. You can Spec for when stealthed initiative recharges faster, you can spec to be an additional 3 initiative added to your max, you can even spec to have a chance to return initiative on crits. If you are having a problem getting kited, cripple and signet of shadows and even if necessary switch to shortbow and pop an infiltrators arrow behind them. Once you utilize your tools and conditions kiters are extremely easy to take care of for thieves. Not to mention you want them to kite as that leaves their back open to you 90% of the time.
When they say set up cloak and dagger what they mean is if you can’t land it pop devourers venom then hit them and land it, or basilisk venom, or a trap, or line it up for after you use steal. If you don’t have steal trained to stealth you (20pts in shadow tree) then hit steal and immediately hit C and D. Pop a Heartseeker to close gaps, that thing is a homing missile so 90% of the time if they are circle strafing you can still catch up to/hit them.
My next point. You HAVE HAVE HAVE To be able to move in this game. Circle strafing is the most important aspect of fighting. You cannot just move in a straight line or stand still people will wreck you.
I rock shortbow and D/D for leveling, out out a ton of damage with DD and lots of stealth features with blinding powder, I have never had a problem leveling. If mobs get to think switch to shortbow and spam cluster bomb, detonating the bomb right before it hits them so all the little bombers hit everyone plus they cause lots of bleeding.
You are going to want a bit of vitality/precision and power gear and accessories.
D/D is great for leveling in my opinion because you get and extra evade that does damage and causes bleeds, as well as a ranged cripple that hits multiple foes and cloak and dagger to get you in stealth more.
Same issues here as well with the infiltrators arrow and the shadow stepping as posted above.
Completely agree with this post and well said. Thank you.
D/D is great, the whole thief class is a blast.
For general leveling I would choose mainly precision power and vitality, once you get to around 40-50% Crit rating IMO anything above is a waste of stat points. I chose mostly power and vitality accessories with precision and power weapons and armor. Works well for me so far, although my jewel crafting has kept me stacked on accessories so I am a little over on vitality right now haha.
Condition damage can be viable as well and even though I don’t have many points put into condition damage I always try to keep a poison and at least if not more a 3 stack of bleeds on the target with blossoming death.
Well what are you doing? SPVP, WvW, PVE,dungeons?
Need some info before I can help.
Honestly after playing most of the other classes, I can hands down say that the thief has way more useful utility skills than any of the other classes that I have played.
Shadow refuge skill is more for PVE/WVW skill than anything else. Think about it, you are completely containing yourself to a circle that you cannot move out of… Against players that’s going to be useless.
D/D thiefs you are right though they do rely on auto-attack because Heartseeker is nerfed now, and blossoming death is a good skill just extremely expensive. After you use 2 blossoming deaths you are going to be auto attacking. I do not whole heatedly agree with us being so reliant on auto-attacking because it takes a lot of fun out of the thief… BUTI understand why they did it, for balance, it just takes some managing of your initiative. I did AC today for the first time and I found that 60-70% of my damage came from auto-attacking while strafing my target as I had either used up initiative fighting multiple adds, or blossoming death to evade getting hit.
There is a Utility skill to make you go instantly stealth, and as a bonus it blinds enemies around you, it’s called blinding powder, personally that utility never leaves my utility bar.
Poison does seem a little weak in this game compared to the other conditions, where bleeds stack, and burning does a lot of damage.

I love steal as it is. With your idea, we choose an F1 skill that we stole and can use it all the time, then how would we shadow step/steal again? They would have to let us use a skill and then also make an F2 for us to let us be able to steal again while fighting for the poison/mug. So we would always get a skill and then also get steal when it’s off CD? That sounds like a serious balancing issue.
An example- I would keep the tuft of hair, for my chosen stolen skill for the stealth, then I would also get steal to shadow step/stealth again plus poison and damage, plus all my other stealth skills on top of that See where I’m going with this?

could you always go up and down cliffs and across gaps? Im pretty sure I want able to. … I Can now though if it was changed.

Ok for all those saying on I got beat by a warrior and they can be squishy as everyone else, you guys honestly need to step back and put some input in.
Warrior can go dps build yes, but that DPS build still has heavy armor.
Saying I for beat by a warrior is hilarious, of that’s all you got to say then I really am at a loss of words for your thought process. He fact that a heavy armor class can 2 shot people is not good balance. There has to be a trade off.
I didt say anything about defending Heartseeker or thieves I understand it needed to be changed, but for A Net to go straight for thieves while warriors have been even more complained about is weird.
I’m not the only one that feels this way, so for you to say somebody got beat by a warrior is the most laughable thing.
I agree melee is harder and should therefore reward more, but I do not think a class that gets to wear the heaviest armor and get the most protection should be putting out the most damage in the game… Something has to give.
So thieves already got nerfed, but warriors in heavy armor doing more damage than most thieves are fine!? Wat
This is frustrating.
Warriors are showing up everywhere and doing insane damage while wearing heavy armor.. But a thief who is squishy as hell, relies on stealth and high damage to do anything needs nerfed, Im ok with the heart seeker nerf, just frustrated that warriors are running around op as hell and are considered fine.
Lol thieves get nerfed… but warriors in HEAVY armor doing more damage than us didn’t. That’s legit. Heavy armor wearing thieves with cc’s shouldn’t be touched. /S
I have caps lock as my heal, e for cloak and dagger,1,2,3 and f as where you throw the dagger can’t remember off the top of my head.
Caps lock is great for heal IMO its easy to reach and a nice sized key.
Edit: And I have Z for steal.
(edited by BlueprintLFE.2358)
Yeah we did, warriors in heavy armor doing more damage then is didn’t though… That’s legit.
I’m at work so I can’t tell you the exact trait location but it is on a 90 sec cool down, but with the amount of cc’s out there from players and mobs it’s with it. I think it was in the shadow arts free. Hmm executioner is that the one that gives you might when below 50%? Or is it a flat 20% damage increase? Im tryingto think about whether the 100% Crit rate is worth it if I have 40-50% Crit rate. So I’m still not sure. I’m going With a backstabbing build as I have found that is where most of my damage is comig from in a D/D build.
I am also planning out my D/D build as well. I really enjoy backstabbing. After playing most of the other classes I’ll have to say thieves got thekittengood end of the stick on traits and utilities. I am going with a few traits to buff up steal, the poison, mug and stealth on steal. Then I’m going to head for the ability that once you get CC’d automatically shadow steps you away. Not sure what else to grab from their. I’m looking to be hovering around 40-50% Crit rating. I would like to get some points into toughness and vitality so I might toss some points into those trees on necessity.
Also that 100% Crit chance while stealthes looks good.
i do want to know how good the hounds are
From what I have seen I prefer the thieves over the hounds. There are a few reasons the Thieves cc’s seem much better than the hounds, (in my opinion) and thats one of the + of using them. The hounds like you said are on a longer cool down. Now I have he thieves but don’t have the hounds, have just seen them in action a few times, plus the thieves get ranged skills, not sure about the hounds on ranged skills though.
Name: Azmon Muraas
Race: Sylvari
Server: Crystal Desert
Same as above, those daggers are sick, what lvl and what Re they called?
Hi, I’m a Darkwing.
That armor is sick, what is it called and what lvl?
How is D/P in pvp? Any trying it? I haven’t heard much about it.
Meet Swiftstepp Only level 29 now but love cutting kitten up.
So I’m running D/D and shortbow mainly doing WvW right now, because of that I’m running blinding powder, speed boost signet, and shadow refuge, I’m having an Issue when I get in smaller skirmishes without really having any cc’s I only have the cripples and the blind, no interrupts stuns, KB’s or kd. Should I swap devourers venom in? What are you D/D thiefs out there running for utilities and are you just going without CC’s?
I like being able to take the pressure off of buddies, and I’m a huge fan of timing CC’s to interrupt big moves/stop them after they buff up to waste boons. (been like that since playing UO timing interrupts haha)
I should mention I’m only lvl 29 so if this is fixed with traits I do not know.
Because of this I was going to pick up basilisk venom at 30, but I keep hearing it’s terrible.
Any info appreciated.
As of now it is difficult while fighting a large amount of players/mobs to see when you get a critical hit, this is important in testing builds and the precision stat. Adding the word critical above below or to the side maybe in a different color would help observe crits in the action. Thanks!
Which one do you use? I’m enjoying D/D but I’m finding with that and the shortbow to switch this set up is SEVERELY lacking in any CC’s, use devourers venom other than that it’s all cripples, how are you D/D people working around this?
Or are most using S/P for pvp?
Gratz!! This game is phenomenal. Enjoy the game and don’t blast through to 80 missing all the kitten scenery. What class are you going to play?
What does the player base think on whether conditions should be able to critically tick or hit players? This is usually a common thing that I am used to seeing, but I don’t believe it is in GW2. I know this is not your avg/common game. Love this game, just looking for some insight into how others feel.

Just Looking for info on the necro.
Just wondering as I haven’t touched the necro yet, is there an option for a burst damage playstyle? Or are the only options pets and condition damage? I despise pet classes but the necro playstyle sounds cool.
I agree with this, love the game so far, but honestly I despise pet Playing classes. I cannot stand sitting back while pets do the work, and or a ranger to have a pet be mandatory kind of sucks for me. I love rangers style of play of woods and survivability and long range bows and arrows, but the fact that a LARGE amount of utility skills are based around pets is kind of frustrating for someone that does not want to play a pet. Some of the traits involve pets that aren’t even in the beast master section..
I agree with some points but there is one part I disagree with. That is changing the beast master trait line to have +vitality instead of +healing. Not everyone may want to go with a pet spec, so I disagree with linking it with one of the most important stats. + healing is more of a secondary stat that is picked up by those that have extra points, or the very few that want a lot of healing over everything else (I have never met anyone in GW2 so far with this idea.) vitality is a skill that is High in the ranking of being chosen, and when you lock that to a distinct style of play it tends to take away the options for playstyles. Beast master tree is for a district group that likes to spec for pets. Me I personally don’t, and If vitality was attached to beast master, I would be Extremely unhappy about having to waste my points in a pet build with things that I despise just so I could pick up some health.

If this is what the playerbase is complaining about then I’m happy, that means there are no game breaking bugs going on, no crazy lag issues, fairly balanced professions (minus the obvious 2) I’m ok with that.
Has any ranger out there tried a longbow/shortbow set up for pvp or pve? If so any luck with it? Looking for some input from any experiences with this style of play on a ranger.

Those of you saying there won’t be any end game content idk what to tell you.
This is a business. Arena Net is going to want to keep people using/playing their product. Of course they are going to develop end game content to continue to keep their product going and to continue to make revenue.
This game is a blast so far I’ve been playing 2 weeks now,!work full time school full time and married and I am just enjoying myself trying different toons and professions. If you spend 10+ hours a day playing a game of course you are going to get burnt out. Take a break or roll an alt. Arena Net will come out with new content. Right now they are making sure the game is stable with the large amount of people playing, and working on protecting customers.
They have said this multiple times. They are going to release new categories and expand the forums they are just Doing a load test right now. I would much rather have them working on the game anyways
Wow..: I don’t understand this… You paid for a game and then blew through it.. Why?
Arena Net just launched this game give them some time to develops some end game content. Honestly I feel this game has had one of the smoothest launches I have ever seen. I am happy that the Devs put their time into that because I have seen a rocky launch destroy a game before it even gets going.
You blew through all the content to get to 80 as fast as possible, well guess what? A net hasn’t even had any time to develop a lage amount of end game content yet as they had to put time into fixing bugs and releasing the game. It’s not their fault, it’s akittenbusiness. They are going to want to keep people playing their product so what do you think they are going to do? Release more content.
Just because you blew through everything doesn’t mean it’s their fault you have nothing to do yet.
So you have limited choices roll an alt, grind dungeons, pvp, or work on world completion until they can make some content.
Don’t blame anyone but yourself. Why the hell would you pay $60 for a game and blow through the wholekittenthing?
I’m at school at the moment, so I cannot show you all the exact proof of profit but, if you are doing the dungeon properly, you should be making 50+ silver per run. Depending on how your group is set up, you can complete each run ~40 minutes with no deaths.
I would have more, but I keep giving my money out to guildies so they can craft/buy trait books. Just the end boss and chest alone provide 30 silver alone, not including the extra money you can make from NPCing the rest of the junk equipment/items.
Jw what’s up with the 1k health in that pic? That an alt or something? 7 gold on a toon with 1k health!
