I wonder if they were worried it would make the ele op, or maybe to difficult to play? 2 weapon swaps and 4 attunements each?
Throwing this idea out there and let me know what you guys think in case weapon switching will make ele op…
How about locking 2 attunements with each weapon switch? That way you have to use some tactical planning in advance? Like fire and air with your first weapon and then when you swap you have earth and water?
Idk it could be a terrible idea just trying to brainstorm at 9am (probably a bad idea to brainstorm this early)
lol oh god. they are golems and don’t move or evade. pistol wip has a .25 second stun and the snare from the step is for like 1 second. the rouge CAN NOT! move during that channel leaving them open for retaliation……
I don’t know if you saw the part about using devourers venom to cc lock them in place….. With that build you half maybe half a second or 2 to react with a stun break before you have been dropped.
Oh and medium armor… Haha why did they give the highest DPSing classes the most armor? Warriors and thiefs in heavy armor and medium… When mes, eles necros are in light with kitten dps Ahaha
^^^^^^^^ what nemiros said.
A arcing you have the exact playstyle as I do.
Little confused on the question do you mean a self ape that still shatters clones/phant or just a self pulse Aoe?
Vertix I’m right with you on the sword/pistol and staff chaos field is great for Boone and conditions, and I love magic bullet and blurred frenzy. Mesmer is great because you can have multiple playstyles you prefer to keep phantasms up and I have tons of clones and shatter every time it is off cool down. Good stuff.
I do agree anyone arguing about our dueling. Mesmers damage on combos maybe a lower than other professions, but there is a trade off we have great burst potential and stealth/clones to make up for it.
I feel mesmers are great where they are at and a solid profession.
This is pretty much the same build I am running except with different traits. A few things I prefer differently (not saying its better as your build is good) I prefer the clones on dodge in the dueling the tree. Also the trait that killing illusions places conditions on your foes, as mobs and players always attack illusions at one time or another. I am rocking the mind wrack trait 20%cdamage just like you are, and I have the extra Crit on mind wrack, which I think I am actually going to switch because I am at about the same Crit level as you 45% so it’s now going to not make much of a difference for extra Crit on mind wrack. How is the extra damage on phantasms working out for you? I hesitate to spec into that because how easily they die and how often I end up Shattering (shattering for me does wonders and I get some great results in pvp and pve) usually keep phantasms up for a volley or 2 then shatter as they usually get wrecked by Aoe pretty quickly. I love mirror image an instant 2 clones is great for shatter/get away without using your abilities. And I use decoy which works well for me, and phantasmal defender, I tried signet of domination like you have and the stun is great, but the cool down kind of sucks, how’s it working for you?
Overall seems like a very good and solid build
Lmao That’s good some are prettykittenright on
Mesmers are really hard to fight right now because everything is new, give it some time and I guarantee you people will figure out the mesmers tricks and how to distinguish clones. I am actually worried for this as this is the whole class and the only thing we have, but we shall see.
Edit: lol autocorrect keeps changing mesmers into leakers wtf

Also If you happen to be on Emry bay server shoot me a pm and I wi craft you some multiple sets of accessories that you can swap out.
haha, ever since i noticed that the Mesmer class was going to be in GW2 i’ve been dying to play it and actually understand it. I didn’t even make this post and i’m about to say thanks so much to you! You sir, are a gentleman and a scholar. I’ll shoot you any PM’s if i have any questions aswell if you don’t mind! (:
And just a quick question, when i was watching gameplay, i realllllly liked the look and feel of using two swords, what is your opinion on that set up?
Haha of course anyone is welcome to pm me and ask away I will help however I can.
Excellent choice on the Mesmer it is a blast.
Dual swords I think is not too bad of a playstyle I feel it is a little too reactionary for my type of play, the second sword I believe comes with a block and a phantasm which deals decent damage. The way that I have found to at the Mesmer, which I feel is the keeners strength (I’m in no way saying this is the only way or best way, just my experience) is that I am constantly moving and on the offensive., swapping weapons to staff for more clones and chaise field and shield, I personally do not like the idea of standing still to put up a block, now I’m not saying it isn’t a good thing because blocks can be great, bt with blurred frenzy pretty much giving you a block while attacking I find I usually don’t need a 2nd block. Dual swords actually strikes me as more of a physical defensive style. Where as torches and scepters are more magically defensive such as stealths and swaps.
The reason I prefer the offhand pistol is I feel it’s a really good way to continue to pressure the enemy. Magic bullet is a great stun which can be used after you shatter your clones to give you times to get clones and phantasms up again. That’s usually the way I use it, while the enemy is stunned bring up more clones and phantasms, and the illusionary duelist puts of great passive! Ranged damage, so while you are cloning, shattering, stealthing the duelist is damaging your foe.
Also If you happen to be on Emry bay server shoot me a pm and I wi craft you some multiple sets of accessories that you can swap out.
Staff + sword/pistol is my preference. Great damage. Utilities I run are mirror image (immediately makes 2 clones) decoy (stealths you and makes a clone of you) and blink for pve stun break/teleport, I usually swap blink for phantasmal defender in pvp and champion pve boss fights. Phantasmal defender absorbs half the damage you would be taking. Pistols offers a great stun and an illusionary duelist to unload on the enemy for good damage.
If you’re new 2 things… Don’t expect clones to do damage on their own, clones are just copies of yourself to confuse the enemy and to shatter them. Phantasms are you illusions that deal damage. Make sure you look at your weapons skills to see which are which. Someone else said this in another thread and this is great advice, don’t treat your clones and phanstasms like pets, don’t get attached to them shatter the clones often (they have very low hp anyways, and disappear when the enemy you targeted while summoning them dies anyways) for phantasms unless it’s a prolonged fight let them get a volley off and then shatter them. You can see some amazing numbers from shatter. Mind wrack is your damaging shatter bind that to a key that’s easy to reach.
As a Mesmer you control the battlefield the enemy is always reacting to you and will never be comfortable fighting you.
With the one handed sword you get an ability called blurred frenzy which is and 8 hit combo that makes you invincible while you are doing the combo. Great skill.
Last thing I will tell you for pve and pvp learn movement. Move a lot. Mesmers can be squishy so always be kiting teleporting, dropping illusions, shattering illusions, summoning phantasms.
You will destroy things like this, it’s Unbelievably rewarding.
Also I like to stack precision for Crit rating if you get a Crit on a shatter it is REAALLY going to get the enemy. I have seen some 3 clone shatters easily eat through half a mobs life. Once I get to 40-50% Crit rate I then stack vitality and toughness.
Hey man,
Thanks for taking the time to help me out. I’m going to try sword/pistol. So, for leveling.. you would recommend crit, vit and toughness in terms of precedence when distributing stats; and looking for upgrades on gear? Any reason why power wouldn’t be of importance?
Of course no problem if you need any other help shoot me a pm.
Here’s the reasoning why I chose Crit, vitality and toughness, and how it’s Interchangeable. Most of the mesmers attacks are shorter quick attacks or conditions. So when you shatter 3 clones it’s one burst, having a higher chance to Crit on that shatter is going to do way more damage then having power. Blurred frenzy is 8 hits that’s 8 chances to Crit from what I understand and I haven’t seen anything to oppose that. Honestly I feel my damage is great as it is with a 50% Crit rate so I chose vitality and toughness to help with group events and pvp, but that is my preference. I have also had this thought but haven’t tried it yet, you could probably switch power for vitality or toughness because if you think about it with all your illusions phantasms, stealths and dodges you don’t end up getting hit too much in pve, so they are interchangeable.
In pvp though I wouldn’t trade toughness for anything because you are getting hit from Aoes and other sources. Now I’m not saying load up on toughness just some toughness accessories with vitality or power. You also will be getting power and Crit rating in your build as well.
Which Brings me to my next point. What I have found to help a lot is that I carry a few different sets of accessories on me, power might and vitality (not too many Crit rating as I get enough from my build.) I just swap out accessories for different situations, champion boss I toss on some toughness and vitality, every day grinding I do power and vitality. This makes it so they you can easily adapt to any situation.
Honestly this is my preference but has worked well for me… I don’t go over 50% Crit rate, there is no point to me and it is a waste when you could be adding vitality toughness and power. So once I hit 45% Crit chance with my build I swapped out my precision gear and accesories for vitality and toughness.
I personally haven’t seen a huge change in adding power (not saying its not important) but I definitely notice a huge difference in a critical hit.
Blink is great for traveling distances and is on a relatively short cool down. While running with a staff I always drop a chaos field in front of me there is a good chance you will get a speed boost buff from it when you run through it.
Alright I always get credit for aleve kills and pull in great loot like this:
Run into a situation with your staff. Immediately drop chose field on a group of enemies. It immediately starts stacking bleeds and poisons and does great damage. It also stacks a cripple so they get stuck in the field longer. Then I immediately hit mirror image immediately get 2 clones and then pop the instant clones summon from the staff he one that teleports you back. That gives me 3 clones right away which I send in to immediately shatter. The chaos field and clone shatter all happen in seconds shatter destroys large groups of mobs I get great pleasure out of seeing 6 or more mobs die at once from my shatter. Using this strategy will always give you credit on Aoe situations. I have never had problems with receiving credit on Aoe situations since I have discovered this method
From my previous experience with mmo’s higher base damage is a bigger improvement than stats, but honestly I don’t know if this applies to GW2. In every other game I have played it has been true though.
Mesmer is a blast to play and this guide is great.
For those thinking of playing a Mesmer and those mesmer players I’ll remind why the class is so great.
Mesmers CONTROL the battlefield. Everyone fights on your terms and your conditions (double meaning if you like condition builds hah) if you don’t like a situation amazing abilities to get out. Want to take on 2-3 people keep illusions and shatter. Keeping the enemy guessing always means they will forever be reacting to you and not the other way around. You decide whas going to happen. A Mesmer will never let the enemy he comfortable fighting. This is a huge advantage.
One thing, I’m pretty sure they nerfed the greats word damage a few patches ago. I dumped it completely when they did for staff and have never been happier. I run sword and pistol (originally I hated the thought of guns in an MMO) but the stun and illusion duellists are great. A ranged attacking illusion is great passive damage while you actively control the enemy.
My preference in PVE (different in pvp) is to drop choas field on the enemy first, ideally multiple enemies, then mirror image immediately to get 2 clones, then summon a 3rd from the instant teleporting back staff move immediately shatter them for the aoe damae and to get it on cooldown, then summon phantasms and use blurred frenzy to clean up whats left. I have seem some amazing numbers on shatter in pve and ESPECIALLY pvp.
For pvp I run the same set up utilities I use mirror image decoy and usually phantasmal defender (absorbs half the incoming damage) this gives me 2 additional ways to make clones and a phantasm as well as a stun break. Shattering clones provides amazing spike damage that either gets the enemy to use their heal immediately, or surprises them and immediately puts them on the defensive (reactig to you) Honestly with a Mesmer I am moving around so much, teleporting, creating clones, stealthing, it becomes extremely rewarding to see the skill for playing the class pay off when you see 2-3 enemies swinging at midair.
A trait I feel any pvp build should utilize is “Illusions cause a condition on being killed” so many players and mobs attack your illusions it can stack conditions quickly. For me personally Crit is king. I run a heavy precision build, but stop once I get around 40-50% Crit rate. Then use the rest in vitality and toughness. I have seen phenomenal results in pvp with this set up, easily getting 10+ kills in SPVP mostly getting 15+ kills with 1-2 deaths, when you put the effort into learning the class and become able to utilize the options of the Mesmer without thinking twice it becomes extremely rewarding and a lot of fun. It is a class that takes some micromanagement but hat is another thing that makes the Mesmer great.

Ahahahaha with Heavy armor. Ele can’t do that with light armor. Hahaha
People defending this are trying to stay op and not wanting real balance.
Sure you may say its a glass cannon build, but even that glass cannon build with heavy armor has more defense AND damage then a light armor glass cannon build. Heavy armor glass cannon lmao at people who think that.
Not to mention in the chaos of battle this is very easy to pull off on someone engaged in another fight, not only that but even 1v1 this can destroy most people. Sure get out of the stun, but then you can cc them and kite till its off cool down.
This is a game, we play this for fun, to get away from the real world for a bit and relax.
There should absolute be no reason anyone should say how someone should pla their toon. If the OP likes healing and support he should get credit for playing that way.
You cannot just say “Oh A net is trying to discourage healer roles and let everyone do anything” that’s fine if they want everyone to do everything, but some people just enjoy healing/support or taking a few hits (tank style play) to save others. Those peoria should be able to get credit for their actions as their playstyle is just as good and helpful as the ele spamming fireballs.
Just wondering as I have started gathering a few rare dyes now, I would love to have a black dye, not ebony or anything a pure black or pitch Black dye. Anyone know If it’s in the game? Or anyone have it?
Can’t see your link mate, what stats are you planning on going with? I’m my opinion if you want damage Crit is king, but once your Crit level gets to around 30-50% depending on what you personally like I wouldn’t add any more.
Toughness and vitality for taking more damage.
Give you a free bump so maybe someone that knows the guard can help.
As for utilities and traits I can’t see your link so Im not sure what you chose. The reduce incoming damage utility is always good, don’t know a ton of I for about the guard but trying to toss you some info.
For traits I used arcane blast/wave whichever the Aoe one is, and I personally really enjoyed signet of earth I think it’s called, passive is increased toughness and you can activate it for a stun, this is great in pvp as toughness and suns are always helpful.
…not narcissitics I want to make sure my guild tag is showing to others, and see if titles I have gained are showing… Real narcassism there champ.

Also interested in this.
I have both of these classes and love them both.
I decided on making my Mesmer my main becuase it is such a unique class. I can tear through most mobs on both classes, ele is way more squishier but more cc’s. The Mesmer is amazing. I run staff, sword and pistol. Pistol gives you a good cc, magic bullet that hits multiple enemies stunning, dazing, and blinding the others. One handed sword damage is great. Soloing pve is never a problem mobs go after clones and phantasms if you drop them at good times, Mesmer can without a question be a busy class with some micromanagement, but don’t let it scare you. It is very rewarding to wreck things on a Mesmer. I pull 3 enemies launch 3 clones, drop a chaos field (buffs me and damages them) shatter the clones for burst damage summon phantasms and 1 more clone and clean up what’s left. I use decoy (stealths you and puts a clone in your place, invaluable for getting away, mirror image (immediately gives you 2 clones) and blink (breaks stun and teleports) mesmer has a ton of great utilities, and having the option to keep enemies swinging at clones or shatter them in their face for damage or cc is a great mechanic, and it’s a blast to control the battlefield.
As a mesmer you decide how, when and where the battles will be fought. Don’t like how a fight in pve/pvp is going? Drop 3 clones go invisible and teleport away, come back and fight on your terms. No one can control the pace of battle like a Mesmer which is the reason I was immediately drawn to this class. With sword and pistol and 3 clones you can achieve some amazing spike damage with shattering. One of the one handed sword attacks blurred frenzy, is I believe an 8 hit combo that you dodge all incomig attacks while it’s going off.
Enemies will always be fighting on your terms whether they want to or not.
Love both classes but Mesmer is so unique.
(edited by BlueprintLFE.2358)
Any of the light/cloth casters would be great for you/her. Mesmer and elementalist are a blast to play, the Mesmer is great and don’t let what people say about the ele bother her, they are a blast to play, and I’m sure all the classes will be re evaluated and it might change. Idk about the necro haven’t played one yet. Mesmer is my favorite of the 2 though, it’s cool to trick people and use intel to kill.
I get what you are saying, and that would be nice.
For me I switch to a staff to pull and I drop a chaos field right on the enemy it stacks conditions like crazy. Most of the time it cripples right away so they can’t run out of it while it poisons them and others. Then I run in and get the buffs. Great tool to pull. I use sword and pistol though. Not sure what you meant by DW maybe dual wield? If so which weapons?
This is the thing with the elementalist I have noticed. The damage is mediocre and you are in light armor… AOE capability is good with staff but damage suffers, and duel daggers has good mobility but being a frontline fighter with light armor is rough.
Ele in light armor doing decent damage … While warriors in HEAVY armor putting out insane dps. Idk just things I have noticed. Eles need a lil work I feel.
But for questing I use the staff Offers range to help, but like you said when you have 4+ mobs and 2 of them are ranged good luck. All it takes is a few hits and eles are dead, couple that with multiple ranged opponents equals a frustrating time. I threw points into toughness and vitality to help with that but lost a lot of damage so enemies weren’t dying as quick.
Try and carry 2 sets of accessories (rings, amulet, earrings) one for DPS and then a toughness/vitality set for harder hitting mobs.
I mainly use mind wrack and keep the rest up for defense until miner wrack is off cool down, but If someone else is getting pounded on I’ll use Diversion for the daze.
Also I’m pretty sure the damage is instant, as in as soon as they reach the target, before he clones have started their shatter animations. I have noticed this as I keep going, if I watch the enemies health bar while he clones start the shatter animation and after they shatter it doesnt move but if I watch it as soon as they get next to the target I see the damage apply.
Ahaha
Everytime I’m in an event or near a warrior they always drop that kitten right in the middle of me trying to loot a mob I just killed. Then I end up getting stuck askitten honor guard with this flag thing. Most of the time I’m hitting my combos before I realized I pick it up and end up pressing 3 so I charge the hell away to the middle of nowhere. Lol
Edit: Hmm the filter turns profanity into The word kitten
(edited by BlueprintLFE.2358)
I love my Mesmer. I used the great sword for a bit, but I’m about 95% sure they ninja nerfed the damage last patch, so I dumped it. Run with a staff and sword/pistol. For those of you worried about Aoe I am able to do large amounts of AOE damage on mobs by dropping chaos field with staff, it stacks conditions like poison unbelievably fast and destroys multi mobs that stand in it. Also I run up to a group Immediately pop mirror image gives 2 clones and the instant clone phase back from scepter (which gives me 3 clones before anyone has even hit a mob,) then I immediately shatter them LOTS of Aoe. Switch to sword and pistol drop you last pistol combo which is a stun and summon a clone and phantasm from sword skills and you are good to go, after just puttin off a large amount of Aoe.
It’s not a condition build and it’s not an phantasm build either.
I run mirror image, Decoy and the phantasmal shield in pvp which absorbs half of incoming damage.
Pve decoy, mirror image and blink.
I went 19-1 today in an SPVP match I joined halfway through with staff sword and pistol. Have to re look at my spec as I’m not at my comp now but I’ll post it later if anyone is interested.

This game is awesome.
Now, I do see a few bugs and/or annoying little things here and there – but those are really very minor and I am sure will eventually be fixed.
I played Ultima Online (awesome game for it’s time), I played EQ, WoW, Rift, Mortal Online, Age of Conan (BEAR SHAMAN!!), DAoC, and a few other MMORPGs either for multiple years or on release. I was completely over the entire genre, just spending my game time with TF2, Skyrim, LoL, or maybe a little SC2 – until this game.
I am now 100% into this game. I’ve seen so many promise to be revolutionary and flop, I was actually expecting this one to pretty much fail. I have been proven wrong (oh THANK GOD), and I am very happy with my purchase.
Thank you for making such an awesome game, and for continuing to quickly patch it up and improve it.
+++1 for UO and 10 chars for Bear shammy.
This game is phenomenal thanks A net
Elementists definitely need some love, especially when warriors and thiefs are doing way more damage in heavy and medium armor… Eles damage needs buffed they hit like a wet noodle. I don’t even worry about eles when I’m playing my other toons in pvp.
Oh yeah and there is no holy trinity, so it would t be heal heal heal kill kill. It would just be people playing their toons how they want and getting to track how their toon performs. I would love to know how much damage my toon is putting out compared to other classes or the same class.
The idea of the table, would be to be shown only in the end of the event, so you can get a idea what happen there. You should not have access to it during the same.
Yes, then every event will go like this:
“OMG $*!&#^ kill kill kill!!!”
“OMG #(*&!^# heal heal heal!!!!”
:OMG (@*&$ faster faster faster!!"
It will become about getting a better number rather than having fun helping the citizens of Tyria and becoming a legend.
Sorry, I don’t want my game to be like that. You should try structured PvP :-) press N and it will tell you how well you’re doing. How’s that?
I disagree I would love to see stats at the end of events. Keep track of how well my toon is progressing and which areas I need to focus on.
I’ve never played wow so stop with that.
If someone lets stats at the end of an ever kill their fun then they probably aren’t having fun to begin with, or just don’t look at them. +1 for OP’s idea.
They all seem pretty decent, they are all great designs. One class that I think needs a little boost is the elementalist, warrior can out dps one, same with a thief, and they wear heavy and medium armies
This has been stated by the Devs. Overflow issues will be less as everyone progresses out of the start zone. To join your buddies join a group right click their name and you should see an option to join it should teleport you to them if I understood correctly.
Yeah I believe this is true.
