Female Humans need more 'viable' hair options

BobbyT.7192

Just wanted to throw that out there.

Lots of the hairstyles are…. I guess you could call them elegant but I find that good looking hair styles are really limited. I’d love to see more hair styles released in the future. This is also good for ANet’s business, as more people would be purchasing hair style coupons.

Please and thank you!

Isn’t “viable” a subjective opinion to begin with? Plus they already have more hair styles than most other characters with 23 option, other characters are around the 12-20 mark, male human get 24.
Don’t get me wrong, more is better, but it isn’t fair to say that there is no options because of personal opinions.

what should be a daily\monthly?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BobbyT.7192

BobbyT.7192

It’s a problem because these daily/monthly does not coincide with what casual players usually do. I don’t know if you have noticed but dungeons (ie. monthly) are not what casual players do on a daily basis. Most casual players just log on, do some WvW and then logs off. This creates a problem because non-casuals will farm the ascended gear and you will have exotics vs ascended in WvW at some point. I say just make a WvW daily/monthly and have it linked to the PvE daily/monthly. For an example, if you finish a WvW daily, you cannot finish PvE daily for that day. This makes it fair since WvW uses PvE gear so we should be able to farm it as well doing WvW.

What is actually casual? For some, they believe 2 hours a day is casual while another person would thinks that’s hardcore.

There’s casuals out there that don’t do WvW, and just does one dungeon a night, hell there’s even casuals that don’t do anything but chat in LA\guild chat\friends for a bit than logs off. One person’s casuals is another’s hardcore and vise versa.

IMO this is not about casual vs hardcore, this is about filling everyone’s needs, and some times that’s not possible no matter how close you get it, because everyone has a different opinion on what they consider fun.

Playing for the inflationary compensation

BobbyT.7192

Dear John,

while I appreciate that you jumped in our discussion, I am a bit disappointed that your only comment was about the definition of inflation. If you had a look at the completed transactions for t5/t6 materials, ectos, bufffood and ingredients in the most common/most used bufffoods, you’d noticed that those prices went up by a lot in the last 4-8 weeks. I think ‘inflation’ kind of is the right word to describe such a situation.

Even if not, I don’t want to discuss the definition of a word. I want to discuss the main point of my first post in this thread: (casual) players don’t really earn money as prices go up and up. They will NEVER get a legendary as the precursor is the blocking factor.
Those two points are what i wanted to discuss.

Ah and by the way: I think that orders are a good indicator for inflation and that there actually is no need to view the completed transactions as orders are always “close around” completed transaction prices. gw2spidy’s data is the best available and it’s not bad.

why would they need a legendary if they are casual, whats the point? even if the prices were what they were a few months past, they would never get them anyways. Casuals playthe game for fun, legendaries are design for the hardcore group of players. A causal that decides to work for a legendary can not be consider a causal anymore.

I don’t know if anyone has notice, but there seems to be a lot of complaints about the dailies & monthlies, people are saying they are a grind and can’t find the time, or can’t be bother to do them because it doesn’t fit their play style.

Now there is talk about getting to picking from a list of dailies, but since that isn’t in yet, we have to make do with what we got.

So I got to ask, what do people want for dailies and monthlies.

Kill count/vet kill; people don’t seem to be complaining about that too much, there might be a champ kill daily, remains to be seen. Only problem is if that’s all we have then it just becomes boring.

Events; again not a lot of complaints here, but I’ve seen some with reason of they don’t like events (which is dumb because it’s the main part of the game).

Gathering, salvaging and crafting; this mostly come down to play style and people feeling it’s a waste of money (again not valid argument when you can get a set of gear boxes and sell them on the tp, making more than what you paid for the mats if you didn’t have them already)

Jumping puzzles, Dungeon, WvW; play style and time, understandable but at the same time, if you do those things already or don’t mind them, it’s real easy.

So what else should there be, vista viewing? Find certain npcs? Breathing?
We don’t have choice yet so what should be a daily where everyone can agree on.

As for people not having time, serious question, if you don’t have the time to play the game, why would you need BiS gear if your not going to be on long enough to enjoy it to begin with. That I don’t understand.

I need exotic. Why? It is called STATS. If you didn’t know exotic has better stats no comment.
I’d refer you to the wiki but I’m a bit lazy.

Aaaaaaaand you’ve (unsurprisingly) once again failed to respond to the most important issue at hand. In what aspect of the game can I not participate unless I’m wearing exotic armor? I’m BEGGING you to answer that question. You won’t, because you can’t. To do so destroys the entire premise of your argument.

Also Dark your have committed so many logical fallacies anything you say comes into question.

I tell you what. Since you’re “at university”, why don’t you show this entire thread to your university’s debate team and ask them who presented the stronger argument?

Except people will notice a difference in groups and group based challanges. That person will be a liability to the group if he does not have full exotic. To try to say that players do not bother with this minor detail is wrong. If we go doing dungeons, we will notice one guy wearing greens. It’s doable, but you will have to carry his load.

Helping guildies along like this is always an option, but dont think that everyone will be that overbearing, esp after the 15th time that person gets ressed in a pug with the new waypoint change.

Yes you can do it, but you will be worse off for it.

Been in TA ex(recommended lvl 55) where a level 49 did better than two level 80 in full exotics, done arah story in full 80 green before, and a guildy gone to fotm 18 with 0 AR, I am a firm believer that skill is better than stats, and that there is very little between rares and exotic.
Sure newbies will not have the best of gears but they don’t have the skills to rely on yet.
Those that are good will have exotic anyways, while those that say they need exotics are using it as a crutch for their low skill level.

you want to know grind? play aika online, where max level is 75-80+(haven’t played in a while so i don’t know where the lvl cap is now) and leveling pass 50 is a mindless slog of killing the same elite mob over and over, for hours on end just to gain one level,

The very fact that you can get to max level with this game in one or 2 weeks without repeating the same crap over an over, make this game 100 times better then most gmaes out there.
Same with Aion before i quit, anything pass 30-40 if you weren’t doing pvpve, you weren’t gaining anything for lvls.
There farming yes, but that what you want to do, not have to do. farming =/= grinding. imo

It’s a waste of materials. I have 9 level 80 characters, and all my skills are 400. I have no need for low level components, and no need to craft.

This is my main concern with the crafting being added, too. It just seems like a waste for some players. When crafting was talked about early on, it seemed as though the system was meant to minimize unnecessary, wasteful crafting. I liked this. For those of us with maxed out crafts, that plan kind of gets thrown out the window. Sure, I can easily craft something in “10 seconds” as all the proponents of the new dailies keep saying, as though time spent is actually a measure of usefulness, but it would be just to complete the daily and feels like a waste of materials. And when the TP is flooded with everyone else’s crafting detritus, we’ll eventually be lucky to get vendor price from anything we make.

If crafting for dailies is such a waste, then why am I gettting 2 lvl 78+ exotics armour after 5 days that would have costed me hundreds times more then the mats I used to “waste” on a daily. This whole crafting is a waste arguement is completely invalid.

I’m sorry, but I have no idea how your comment relates to the concerns I’ve voiced. How did you previously “waste” mats on the former dailies? The former dailies didn’t involve crafting at all.

And? So what? Now they do, and with that the money that you can make\save with the items you can get with the laurels, those craftables you used for the dailies don’t seem like a waste at all.

Personal story/cinematics: HORRIBLE
Ambient scenes and events: AWESOME

I still can’t believe the difference. Possibly two different teams?

Yes. Separate teams handled writing the different content types leading up to ship. That is no longer the case. My team is now responsible for the final output of all text and VO in the game, and I am now fully responsible for the quality. As a result of this change, I am now empowered to take the writing and VO in a direction that’s more consistent with the ambient scenes and events.

Personally, my biggest concern with the voice acting in this game is the lack of variety of accents. EVERYONE in the game sounds american, and they all speak in AMERCIAN english rather than British english, or just pronounce words how people would pronounce them if they had come from the same part of america. Prime examples are “CenTAR instead of CenTOUR” (thats the main one I can think of off the top of my head because it is said so much) but I have noticed many, many others that could have more diversity to them in order to add to the immersion. (Imagine if every english speaking person in the world said things exactly the same)

That’s not entirely true. We have a number of non-American accents in the game that are delivered by natural speakers. Here’s a small list as an example (but there are more).

  • Robin Atkin Downes
  • Gideon Emery
  • Jane Windsor
  • Roberto Medina
  • Lin Gallagher
  • Jenny Veal
  • Etc.

Also, the game is made in America, we write it in American English, and most of our actors live in Los Angeles. That stated, I agree that we could use some more vocal diversity in the game, but I don’t want Guild Wars 2 to sound like every other fantasy title out there with the standard British accents on every character. So aside from more British accents, what other types of voices would you like to hear?

And yes, some of the pronunciations are a little janky. That sometimes happens. We fix what we can, when we can. I’ve also named a clear owner of our pronunciation guide, which should minimize these kinds of gaffes going forward.

It’s always a little bit awkward when you’re about to write a post criticizing the writing and voice acting of the game only to see that the game’s lead writer is watching the thread. Even so, I’m going to agree with everyone else- ambient dialogue is great (if a bit repetitious in LA) and story writing and voice acting is generally quite terrible…Conclusions: ambient dialogue is great, the cutaway conversation scenes highlight the worst parts of the game’s voice acting and writing. Norns are bad, Asuras are great, and Nolan North is playing Nathan Drake with a codpiece.

I hope you’re all comfortable voicing your opinions here. We value your honesty, and read as much of your feedback as we’re able. I can’t be too specific right now, but rest assured that we’re making some changes to how we write, edit, cast, voice, and present story in the game. The past few live releases should hopefully give you a small idea of where we’re headed.

For the record, Nolan doesn’t show up to VO sessions in a codpiece.

I doubt they’ll have the time and/or will to re-record all of the story dialogue. However, I would LOVE them to add in the ability to (at least outside of the story dialogues) change your characters voice.

Rewriting and re-recording the entire game would be too time consuming and cost prohibitive, though we have analyzed certain parts of the game to see where we could make some improvements, if given the resources. It’s safest to assume that the current voiced content will remain, and that new additions to the game will reflect a new direction. If that changes, we’ll be sure to let everyone know.

Erasculio is right that adding additional player voices is hugely expensive due to how many lines are assigned to the PC (player character). Whenever the player speaks in shared content, that line must be recorded a total of 10 times (5 playable races x 2 genders). Also, due to how variant lines are used in the game, the contents of the line have to be written exactly the same, which makes it hard to do any meaningful voice or roleplaying differences between characters.

That stated, all ideas are valid. We had discussed finding ways of giving players new voices, or building a pitch slider for those who wanted such a feature. We settled with what we have now due to time and resource constraints, however.

i always thought sylvari should have had a cletic accent, but that’s just me and i prefer that over British.
also another personal opinion, i really think Trahearne should have been played by this guy >_>

What to buy with 800 gems

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: BobbyT.7192

BobbyT.7192

Oh math, awesome, while we are at it, let’s put together all that we know:

Anet has sold 3million copies, but, let’s just assume that they are sold at 60 bucks, which is an optimistic estimate, since a lot of then are probably bought when the game in on discount and relative numbers for collector/deluxe editions are quite low. That bring us to 180 million dollars.

Now according to credible source there are just over 300 employees at Anet currently, that. Someone assumed a salary of about $3000/month this is simply can’t be true. Because if that is the case, there wouldn’t be a GW2 for us because no one will be working for Anet since that is less than half of the average salary of IT industry, unless they are constantly bribed with free cookies everyday. So based on a $6000 monthly salary and 300 employees, a total of 21.6 million of salary expense needed per year. 5 year development will total 108million dollars (just as a comparison, SWOTOR is said to have spent 200million, which is considered a lot), that only left us with only 72 million. Divide it by that by 21 million, we are looking 3.428571429 years of sustainable business! SHOCKING!!! and that’s as conservative a guestimate as it gets, not including facility fees, NcSoft cut, marketing, free pizza/coffee/cookies and pingpong ball replacements!! So in reality, we’re looking at much less than 3 years before money runs out, and of course, we don’t want that to hapkitteno, now, we love our game, what can be done? This is where you come in! Buy gems, coax your friends to buy the game, and then make them buy more gems! Sale your jewelry, sale your car/house/ and pet to support our game!

What are you still waiting for?

Go!

Nao!!!!

I don’t think anet had 300 employees 5 years ago, so the cost of salaries wouldn’t be that high, and i would hope within the next 3 years a full 60$ expansion or 2 would have came out.

I don’t want to diverge the thread from its original discussion, so I will keep this short. Maybe if you’re creating thousands of snowflakes to salvage, it’s clear that you’re in it to profit. However, I created a stack of ecto, and I didn’t think it was an exploit while doing it. The change to the value of ectos seemed totally intentional to me; people were converting mithril and snowflakes into ecto. It didn’t seem any more radical to me than dropping precursors out of the Ancient Karka chest, dropping Arach/Crossing/Mad Moon out of the MK chest, dropping permanent bank access items out of the MK chest, or allowing people to convert exotic trinkets into BL keys. If I had 1 more BL kit to waste, I would’ve used it, and I’d be banned right now because of it.

It might be easy on the outside looking in to say that it was obviously an exploit, but hindsight is 20/20. If ANet had told me somehow “This is an exploit” I would’ve never done it. As far as I was aware, however, I was converting BL kits, which cost a boatload of gold, and mithril into ecto. That didn’t seem too far-fetched to me, and seemed in-line with Regina’s post about lowering the cost of ascended items (what spurred the increase in ecto value in the first place).

I guess my only point here is thus: Don’t lump everyone into the same boat and give anyone who made hundreds of these snowflakes the black mark of ‘exploiter’. ANet is free to ban whoever they want to whenever they want to, and I won’t argue that, but the difference between me and someone who was banned for the snowflakes is negligible. If ANet had said something, anything, I wouldn’t have salvaged a single one.

Just consider your self lucky, and be done with it, and remember if something is too good to be true, it probable is.

The problem is, the thief is the only class you really don’t have to play intelligently right now and still have a good chance of winning. Even if you don’t win, you have the best chance to escape alive in the game. If you’re a very skilled player, you just never die as a thief…you never have to.

TILL this part i though i could have a good discussion about thief. nevermind.

There’s only two things you can have a discussion about with thief-only players: how much nerfing needs to be undone, and how much other people need to “L2P”

Since I’m talking about niether, I wasn’t expecting a good discussion from you.

It’s never going to be a good discussion, one side will QQ and say nerf, other will defend saying l2p, there is no middle ground and it’s impossible to be objective, been this way since day one, only real tie breaker here is anet and already know what side they are on.
There are people out there who can stop a thief, so it’s not impossible, those that can’t either don’t know how or had there stuff on CD and unprepared, (in with case it doesn’t matter which class jumps ya, your still going to die, thievs just make it quick and plainless)
So about we end is discussion, because it been going in circles for ever now.

Ayeup. Electro, Danikat and Tauril have it correct. There were a lot of considerations with technical and aesthetic requirements that needed to be met. And it wasn’t easy to figure out a middle ground between the ethereal/elf-crowd and the treant/ent followers. I’m impressed you noted those asymmetrical faces, Tauril. ;} They were nearly as far as I could push things while still trying to stay attractive on some definition. Heck, even now you’ll see camps of people saying they’re straight up ugly while others say they aren’t ugly enough. They are supposed to be a beautiful race… I did my best to stretch that line as far as I could to include more than just standard beauty features.

There is nothing cheap or easy way out about the sylvari design. They didn’t design them just once, they did it twice because the first design was not satisfactory.
Sylvari imo is amaizing with their looks and many options.

Shadow Refuge is imo a must for most group activites, aoe stealth for stomping, res’ing, escaping, and ambushing.
Shadowstep is 2 stun breaks is one, teleport and condition removal
Caltrops is good for condition builds, and combos with signet of malice.
Devourer & ice drake venom are not bad for some CC.
and i don’t use traps enough to give a good opinion on them.

Doing fractals? Use healing spring!

As a hammer guardian, I prefer that rangers use healing spring, healing strengh goes off of the guy going the finisher, so a ful cleric guardian guardian puts out a huge heal with 2 hammer, that’s not even close to what a thief can do when they get a hand on healing spring.

I’ve never actually had a group with a ranger that didn’t bring it, seen a couple of thieves not bring shadow refuge but they were new players,
Good rangers, will actually use healing spring on the front line so the melee get it and thieves can lay down some healing, even if they themself don’t need the heal.

I don’t need a ranger to have a good group, but I do think they should bring it when they group up, even the glassy cannon thief will bring shadow refuge and spam clusterbomb on water fields,

To think that there are people out there that would not bring it for selfish reason wrecks my faith in humanity.

i can still do this ?

The cast time for CnD is pretty long, can you blame people for finding ways around that,
On my guardian I pre-cast bansh + judge’s intervention, I’ve seen groups of ele pre cast churning + lightning flash,

If steal got change to cancel CnD, all it’ll do is make people work around it. Like maybe take inflitrator signet,

With full cleric gear and 0\0\20\30\20, my guardian rolls from +2k healing, even with 4% crit rate, I get enough crits to have a decent uptime on vigor (thanks to aoe weapons and the change to vigor on crit trait),

For being aoe it cute, for a pubstomper build anything really work.

You can't balance this game around 5 v 5

some comps even actively avoid a 5v5 battle ^.^ and tries to spread the other team thin and win 2v2 battles and 3v3 battles. right now the balance is pretty good but the skill cap is very high. If you play some one like hman on his war suddenly warriors look op but in reality he is just really good at using his warrior. same with many of the top players. fiveguage is actually a brilliant example of this. engis are pretty much unheard of in paids except for him. he bunkers a point better than most guardian bunkers can, and its amazing to watch (annoying to play against though :P <3 you five guage)

Qt Hman, on Anvil Rock, has never beaten me in a 1 vs 1(my necromancer aka Presidents Bushes). Warriors are not OP when you have the correct build to counter them.

That’s the main reason imo why it shouldn’t be balance towards 1v1, build wars. All the balance in the world doesn’t mean kitten if you build in a certain way to completely destroy a class or build type, it isn’t entertaining to watch

At least in a 5v5 setting if one person hard counters you or your team mate, you got other to back you up,
