But this thread isn’t about efficiency. It’s about viability.

Viability in the sense of “can you finish content like this” is irrelevant. Everything is viable. People do naked runs kitten . PvE, in the “being able to cross the finish line” sense, is kitten easy.

And why would you need to be better than anyone else to run full zerker? You hit dodge and negate all damage. Then you hit so hard you finish an enemy before it can level another attack. Hmm. Yes, efficient, certainly. Good? You haven’t shown me anything that marks out any skill there. If anything, the you’ve specced yourself out so that the build is a crutch in itself. It’s a good build – you don’t necessarily have to be good to play it.

I think you’re having some sort of comprehension difficulty here…

Again, we’re talking about efficiency. To be the best possible in PvE, to be as efficient as possible, you run full berserker. This has been demonstrated and explained several times now. The only reason to not run full berserker, if you are trying to attain the best possible performance, is if you’re not good enough to run it. If running full berserker is, as you said, “easier”, then there’s absolutely no reason not to if you are trying to improve your performance.

Whether that makes you a more or less skilled player is irrelevant to the question at hand. I guess you could claim that if you run a marathon with lead shoes it shows you’re more skilled than someone running with normal sneakers… Or a masochist. Whichever. Denominations such as those can be awfully fickle.

No, they aren’t running with crutches. They are running for fun, for enjoyment.

You are running with blinders. Assuming that anyone running non-cookie cutter is doing it because they must obviously suck, when in many instances its simply not the case. Not everyone plays to simply powerhouse through.

See above, discussing fun is irrelevant. Fun is subjective. They might be running for fun, but they are running – crippled -for fun . Whether they find it fun or not is irrelevant to the fact that they are gimping themselves.

Which is the point so many of you seem remarkably thick to absorb. “Fun” is a subjective concept. We can’t discuss what’s “fun” because there are no objective parameters. Some people think it’s fun to clear challenges as efficiently as possible, some like to try to clear challenges by gimping themselves as much as possible (e.g.: naked runs). Whatever you prefer is your problem, and completely subjective. What is more efficient however, is factual. Full berserker. If you wanna be efficient you go full berserker. If you don’t care about that go whatever, doesn’t matter, the game is easy enough as is.

I like biking. I like walking and hiking. I hate riding in cars, especially if I’m not driving. I hate buses. But a car is a more efficient method of traveling long distances than a bike, regardless of which I find more fun.

So why get so bent of shape with a gear set, lots of people don’t care, yeah a car is better at travelling long distances, but if I don’t want or need to go long distances, why would I need a car? It’s not like people in cars would care.

I’m running support Ranger, in case anyone is wondering, with the Spotter trait for precision and support Spirit build. Also I have 10% faster revives. Surely all this support is needed in dungeons? Syn Sity this was for you

So not only are you running a bad class, you’re running a bad build.

I believe stupidity is contagious and thus this culture is spreading. I do make it a point to run CoF p1 at least 2wice a week and therefore I belive this sort of discrimination should not be made, farming or otherwise.

It is not stupid to want to use the strongest classes to maximise the chance of a smooth, fast run, or runs.

And this discrimination is easily remedied if you just roll a warrior or mesmer.

GW1 has that system built in where you can load up a saved build onto your characters, and it worked pretty well, Devs have stated that they wanted that in this game was well, but it’s not really #1 on the list of things they are doing atm.

As for a 3rd party macro, hard to say.

Nope, I’m stating I don’t mind people running ruby orbs.

Just run what ever your feel is right with who ever you want, and don’t bother with what others do if they don’t fit that style, no point arguing. Let people believe what they want. I’m fine with most gear set with MF gear being the exception (just screams selfish to me) , imo skill > stats 9 times out of 10 in my experience

Dodging and avoiding damage is a lot more important to a thief then most other classes, combination of knight with ~400 healing power and SoM will allow you to have a lot sustain in dungeons being able to take some condition damage and mobs normal attacks with out much problems, but you can’t be lazy with it, I can drop health pretty fast if i’m not careful , when that happens i fall back to shortbow for a bit.

In case you misunderstood what I’m talking about, I support a playstyle where “doing your best” means doing your best with whatever you have equipped and whatever skills you chose to use. Not choosing skills someone else thinks are better “for the team” or whatever.

Anyone that runs magic find in dungeons are actually leeching tho, even if they intended to or not, those stats are taking up space for actually combat stats. Meaning those people are less effective then other. Causing the need to carry them, and most really don’t want to do that.
Your not doing your “BEST” if you in MF gear, i’m more understanding if the person is in none full exotics/ascended gear because maybe that is the best a person has atm. Or not running food buff (i’m fine with mf food, as i don’t run with any food 100% of the time in dungeons and it doesn’t mean as much imo). But people in MF gear choose to not play at their best.

MF gear belongs in the open world.

As talked about in the SotG today, they said they will be bringing this skill back abit it.
No real big surprise here, for the most part we all know this will happen, and very few will think this is not needed.

So what do you guys think will happen to it?

Some of the suggestions mentioned was a timer on the trap like shadow return, I thing if it had same time as the mesmer’s portal would be good(60 sec)

Another idea talked about was a cast time on the return, not really liking that though.

What you guys think?

I usually don’t do this sort of thing, but I’ve had these ideas to improve some unused skills for awhile now, just i’m just throwing them out to see what you all think.

Don’t expect to see numbers with these suggestion, this is just the general idea with them.

Pistol
The concept of p/p is very clunky, and i feel most skills need a change or added effect to improve the set. Needs to be more to it then sec then spam unload, Headshot at the odd time, and auto when you got 0 initiative.

  • Make Vital shot into a 3 chain combo, first 2 shots are bleeds, then the 3rd shot deals decent direct damage, and/or extra damage based on;
    a) if target has a condition (either flat rate or per condition), or
    b) based on target’s health.
  • Body shot is pretty much accepted as a horrible skill, opportunity cost just doesn’t work with that effect it gives by itself.

    a) Give Body shot second condition, like weakness, or torment would be nice, or

    b) Make it a fire aoe around you( gun powder explodes out of you gun like black powder, but then ignites falling to the ground), last for a few seconds and stacks vulnerability to those while in it (falling burning powder weakening the armour when it lands on it, sort of makes sense right :/ ?), in addition to the stacks of vulnerability that fires out.
    Can be used put burn on targets at range. and give pistol a unique niche with having 2 combo field and the projectile finishers. Cast time of this could have a bit lengthy as not to be too strong.
  • For Unload, some one on these forum once suggested being able to dodge while doing it, for the cost of extra endurance, be kinda op, but cool at the same time, and would help with the survivability of p/p a bit.

Scorpion Wire
Give it some added functionality, a single pull isn’t going to be worth a slot much out side of for specific situation.

  • pulled targets are immobilize when they reach you, or
  • pulled targets knockdown anyone in the path of the pull. or
  • Pull the target up like a fish out of water, and landing them at your feet either creating a blast finisher, and/or dazing nearby foes. would be useful for pulling people from towers, and would fun to see people face plant.

Venoms
Venom sharing i feel really limits how strong these skills can be, so why not just add functionality that can’t be shared;

  • Give them a passive signet like effect that goes away when you pop it, and triggers traits like venomous strength and leeching venom when you proc the passives effects, but passive procs can’t be shared.
    Example;
    Spider venom: passive deal poison for 2 sec on you next attack every 10-15 secs
    Basilisk venom, deal x% on you 5th attack,
  • Have it interact with the dual skills a bit, giving it added effect depend on the venom and skill it self, like death blossom and spider venom would increase the area in which this skill can hit, Scale Venom and Shadow shot could cause burning. Dual attack would use up a proc. and can not be share with other, not even other thieves, thought the normal function would stay for other attacks and to be shared.
  • Just make the venom sharing a base function for venoms with a slightly lowly aoe range and having venomous aura increase that range, making it bigger than what it is now. Making it an actually support mechanic for the thief.

Venom Sharing Question

Most common venom share build i believe is 30/0/30/0/10, that allows you to get all the venom traits that can also be share also with allies, I sometimes go 20/0/30/0/20 for bountiful thief and having 15 initiative.
From my experience, some of the condition from the venoms themselves will stack with the exception of the immobilize and stone one as those don’t stack to begin with. but the trait leeching venom won’t stack, so if you want to maximize that, you need to spread out you venoms evenly.
Before a group of 3-4 venom share thieves could take out a buffed guild claimer in WvW through coordinating their venoms together, though that has been fixed for some time now sadly

There’s got a be more to the build then just spam unload, only other skill you would use is headshot at situational times, black powder is too costly for the set, body shot is a horrible skill that neither p/p or p/d should ever touch, and the auto is slow and the bleed doesn’t work with the set.
yes unload does a lot of damage(i think people are underestimating how hard this can hit) , but is that’s not enough to carry the set imo.

With 0 condition duration, Vital Shot can stack 4-5 bleeds while Cross-fire can do 5-6. even though CF base bleed duration is 3 sec while VS is 4 sec, the attack rate makes it so much better then the pistol if your landing the bleeds, if your not landing a single bleed, then the two skills seem to be pretty much on par with each other, and that not even factoring the pets dps either.

there is no 1 sec warning with other control skills like knockback or pull. so thats not a valid reason.

there should be an option to use the feature or not, cant just force is up my kitten.

There is usually a 1 second warning on most aoe cc skills though, like binding blades, and warrior hammer’s burst.

I wish we had the option to toggle balance changes too, I would love to have 1200 range back oin ny clusterbomb

Yeah i am getting 132 with 0 healing power, and 170ish with ~500.

I was seeing 100 with 0 healing power, and 145 with 744 healing power (shaman ammy/jewel with 10 in SA)

Ring/Line of warding and other such skill either knockdown or knockback, which gets protected by stability. They also count as stuns, which can recovered from with stun breakers, which any class as access to. The thief more likely shadowstep out it, It is working as intended.

I wonder if your still able to teleport while stun, it’s still in instant cast skill and there is nothing in the patch notes suggesting otherwise.
And like other non-stun breaking instant cast teleports (steal, phase retreat) your still able get out of harms way, it just your still stun. All this will really do is slow down the thief from coming back.

I love the fact that everyone is kitten about thieves getting torment, then find out it’s only on one skill, that has a long cooldown.
Necro and mesmer are only getting one each as well ( thought most would argue that those sound better on paper then what thieves get), my guess is this is just testing the waters a bit. And hopefully more get added in the future.

There`s a lot of good here, some necessary balance changes, and some terrible. Sounds like a normal balance patch and I like it. Assuming that’s true, I really really wish they didn’t do a few of these things:

Last Refuge: The cooldown of this trait has been reduced from 90 seconds to 60. (The cooldown was never the problem with this skill. This skill was the problem with this skill.)
Lotus Poison: Increased weakness duration to 4 seconds, but it can only apply once every 20 seconds per target.
Hard to Catch: The cooldown of this effect has been reduced from 60 seconds to 30. (should have just removed the skill)
Throw Scale: Reduced weakness duration to 6 seconds. (The worst steal got nerfed?)
Nine tail strike: 3 initiative to 5, Shadow assault: 5 initiative to 7 Thief underwater just got neutered. Luckily nobody cares about underwater.

The rest look good or I can see why they were nerfed. Quick question though… Skale Venom: Replaced Weakness with Torment. What’s torment?

Trying to brainstorm where Torment will fit in to skills.

I have a sneaky feeling that both Body Shot and Dancing Dagger will get it. A few traps might – the trait changes may include applications of Torment for a prerequisite, like % of HP or something along those lines.

Don’t think both body shot and dancing dagger will get it, because there is P/D, making you choose one or the other depending which one does torment better.

I’m placing bets on dancing daggers. If it was on body shot, it wouldn’t make p/p a better set imo, making it only really useful on p/d and nothing else, while on Dancing Dagger, p/d and a condition base d/d would greatly benefit with this. Also it would improve S/D indirectly with this (In theory, easier to land you 3rd auto or LS on a target that does not want to move,),
Body shot needs some lovin, but this not it.

What? You don’t find it a bit absurd that the limiting factor in being able to run other GC builds are two profession’s gc builds?

Not as such. The very nature of GC builds in GW2 is something that kills very fast and dies very fast (when you don’t avoid the damage). So two glass canons that fight each other are bound to be something very brutal.

If thief and mesmer didn’t have any effective GC build, you’d get 1-2 other classes to be declared “the kings of GC” and preventing all the other GC builds to be effective.

…..No

A GC engineer, or necro, or ranger, or guardian, are all on even footing.

Thief and mesmer GC are all cannon and hardly glass because of all the teleports/offensive shutdowns they have. They can deliver their burst while invulnerable or untargetable, and they can reset a fight at will whereas the other GC’s do not get that luxury.

Sounds like a problem with those classes more than thieves and mesmers, why punish the haves instead of improving the have nots.

The hotfix will correctly set the meta achievement requirement for The Dragon Bash Experience to 8. And players who complete 8 of the required achievements will be rewarded the Holographic Shattered Dragon Wings skin.

Edit: I’m also seeing suspiciously bot-like behaviour from a lot of players. They’re appearing right next to projectors just before they reset, killing the holograms then disappearing again.
Has the API for timing these things been released? That’s the only way I can see these people are able to do this so accurately.

Me and a buddy had a rotation of 4-5 spots with in a good run distant away or a wp near them. After awhile you get a good idea when one is going to pop. isn’t hard to get to the nearest wp, run up, kill it and wp out.

Critical Strikes is FAR too good. Either the traits need nerfs or the base stat gain needs to be halved.

All classes increase their Critical Damage with 1% per trait point, or their Precision with 10 points per trait point. Mesmer, Elementalist, Ranger and Thief have Precision on one trait line combined, making Dueling, Air Magic, Skirmishing and Critical Strikes equal in stat gain.

Now convince me that the remainder of your ramblings is worth my time.

Don’t think he is another anti thief QQer seeing he is one of the highest ranking thief players on the NA leaderboard.
It’s no lie that CS is one of the best trait line for the thief, not so much the stats but the traits themselves. It’s also no lie that other trait line needs to be on bar with CS for them to be taken over it, how it’s done is up for debate.

Try the moonshank, it pretty big for a dagger, looks really nice and fairly cheap. On my norn it looks like it could be an asura’s greatsword.

Stealth =\= invul, but yes many skills do have a second or 2 of invul or evades ( most have 1/4 to 3/4 second of it)
It did have evade I think (same thing as invul) and it was pretty op at the time, same with whirling axe stolen skil.

I think it was changed because the previous version (similar to the op’s suggestion) was a bit lacklaster. and wasn’t really that good back in the beta. So they made it 8 secs slowed the attack rate down, and gave it reflect. which is now alot better then it was imo.
