Guys and gals, just look at the patch notes for WoW 5.2.

http://us.battle.net/wow/en/blog/8226552/Patch_52_PTR_and_Patch_Notes_-_February_25-2_25_2013

Take a look at how much they are changing for every class there. How old is WoW now? This is not what I want happening in GW2. It’s very annoying when classes keep changing drastically. Be patient and understand that it’s an iterative process.

Is it frustrating? Yes.
Is it hopeless? Only if you give up easily.

Actually that’s just a difference of opinion, because those notes look extremely fun to me and I’ve never played WoW in my life. So honestly I have no idea how they translate into affecting balance, but it looks to me like there is a fresh and ever changing metagame because of updates that keeps things from getting too stagnant or repetitive.
That to me seems extremely fun, and changes that drastic in GW2 would actually incite me to play the game more.
Guild Wars 1 actually had something to a similar effect on top of balance changes called the monthly “flux” http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Flux which had the potential to make the game fun by changing the metagame a bit every month.

This is just a difference of opinion though, I’m not saying you’re wrong in wanting less changes to be made.
I just personally feel like a game loses all replay value when it becomes a constant grind with predictable stat distributions (that’s a build versatility issue coupled with metagame stagnation), and in pvp a small map rotation. Then on top of that progression rewards in PvP are purely aesthetic and PvP rewards are currently separated from progress in other game modes, adding very little to the experience itself.

Regardless of what game genre I bring up, look at more successful games with larger and more sustained audiences. Call of Duty for example, why do so many people buy and play it? The feeling of meaningful and rewarding progression with multiple gametypes to choose from creates a high replay value. I would assume its similar in WoW.

There’s only so many times you can do the same thing over and over again without any aspect of it changing before either there is no more progression to be made, or the progression was never really intuitive or meaningful. Then boredom sets in and the audience starts to move on to the next best thing.

The people that continue to play are the people who never experience that feeling of boredom with that game. No issues, no complaints, its just a difference of perspective and is to be expected with any game.

I think the point that he was to make was that even tho WoW has been out for a long time, it still has balance issues. Indeed, if you head over to their forums, the QQing that goes on there with classes is far beyond what we see here.
and i can tell you that while gw1 flux was meant to give a fresh look on the pvp meta game, each balance update they did was not, while i haven’t been on there for a while, they still had problems with classes being over/under powered, and complaints about that was just as harsh as we see here. All he was saying was that things aren’t all gloom and doom and people need to chill out.

Guys better concentrate on something realy important rather than discussing paw colors. I think that is not the main thing devs must do in order to revive our abandoned class.

On the contrary, this may not seem like a big change, but it would be a small improvement functionality of the pets. Any improvment to the pet would improve the class.

Interesting factoid … 10% of males suffer from colorblindness of one sort or another.

Those of us who are colorblind (I’m the classic Red-Green), do not like Green/Yellow/Red icon systems. This is why Blizzard eventually put in a colorblind mode and several Rogue mods were created for combo point representation.

Green paw for out of combat, green paw with yellow cross swords in combat, big red cross swords only for when a big hit is coming, and skull with dead. Also adding audio Qs like they do when your pet dies.

Thief stealth -- different from other games?

Stealths ment to re position your self, set up for an attack, and escape. You not going to have long durations of stealth, but will have access to many ways to get into stealth.
So you won’t be traveling long distances in stealth like in other games, but getting hit (aoe or lucky hits) in stealth won’t reveal you.

3 seconds for most skills in the norm, shadow refuge allows you 10 seconds of stealth if you stay in the aoe for a few seconds. And stealth duration can be increase by one seconds via a trait.

With the raven and spider stat problems being brought up, and by the sounds of it, going to be address. I would like to ask if it was intentional to be able to use the HoM pets with there non HoM counterparts.
Like I’m able to have the black and pink moa ( same skills) on at the same time, but am not able to use 2 pink moas for the same purpose. Wouldn’t this create a level of unfairness for those who have it unlocked vs those who don’t. Not really sure if this would give an advantage or not, but something to consider.

I’m fine with there being extra rewards I can’t get, but I wish I could hide the empty slots in my pet window.

You can get those hidden when Mini Rytlock and the Mistfire Wolf disappear from my bank collection and skill tabs.

Since we’re on the topic of things I won’t get, I want a pony, or a bow that shoots ponies.

Extreme example, but how would you feel if your “5” skill was grayed out for one of your weapon sets and when you hovered over it had a link to the gem store? It kind of feels like that to me.

That example is border-lining towards pay 2 win, which is not what these pets are, but if i was able to use that same #5 skill on another weapon set without using the gem store, i would kinda alright, tho i’m sure other would complain.

Any one know why there is only one class that has access to lightning fields?

I understand its a pretty strong field with area swiftness and daze, but wouldn’t it help with class diversity a bit if more of these were available to other classes.
Like you could give it the ranger for their storm spirit, and engineer for their bombs or turrets.
Making this suggestion for these classes because you can fit the theme in pretty easily than other classes.

A 90sec utility vs a spammable ability…come on now….

The tooltip says 1200 range. I don’t think 3600 range is intended.

it’s 90sec because you can teleport your whole party, 3 more parties, and their relatives in one go.
Plus you can’t really spam 3600 range if you got to walk that first.

You cant spam it but there’s really no CD on it.

Don’t use 1 OP ability to justify a broken mechanic. Just make it 1200 as the tool tip states. Is that too much to ask for?

I will use 1 OP ability to justify a broken (as ensoriki stated) mechanic thank you very much. ;D

Missing Ascended Stats: Bug or Intentional?

Could we please get an official response if this is an intended nerf or an overlooked mistake?

It is neither. It just takes time to build these items and there is a huge amount of stuff on our list of things to do. We aren’t done adding stat combos. We will continue to add them as we have time to do so. With this batch, we wanted to even out the spread of primary stats and we already had a lot of stats with Power or Condition Damage as primary (more than any other, in fact), but I’ll be sure to get Valkyrie and Carrion into the next batch.

Thank you Linsey! Can you please give a rough estimate as to when we will see actual NEW stat combination i.e. +HP-prec/tough, +Pow-CD/tough, etc.?

you know they really can’t?

Engineer Gadgets: Chime in!

in Engineer

Posted by: BobbyT.7192

BobbyT.7192

I think no one talks much about gadgets because there are a few of them that are just outclassed by other skills. Take utility goggles vs elixir b for instance. Both on same cooldown, and both give fury, but elixir b also gives three extra boons. What utility goggles offers is a very situational immunity to blindness for ten seconds and a stun break. Which is too bad since stuns last between a second and two and I’m most likely to be dazed or knocked down in pvp situations.
As for battering ram, I’m sure I wrote about it yesterday, but if you want knockback there are better utilities to take instead of it with longer range, shorter cooldown, etc.
Rocket boots: It might have is used if chilled, but no one likes to watch their character cc themselves.
Throw Mine and slick shoes are pretty good, too bad slick shoes suffers from a one minute cooldown.

Knockdown/back launch and daze all count as stuns for the purpose of stun breaks,
I use rocket boots, just because any situation i get cc’d is a situation i want to gtfo of. and this does that job.
Ram does need a change imo, mines not too bad, neither are the goggles and slick shoe a not that bad, just doesn’t fit into my build.

Had an idea for them awhile back, what if they had a 2 part activation, use it once, get one effect, use it again for the other and it goes on CD, similar to turrets.
Take slick shoes, part one leave trail of oil that knocksdown people going thro it, part two set the oil on fire to create a fire field.
Ram, p1, gain protection, p2 the launch.
goggles…….some kind of lazer beam :\.
stuff like that

<facepalm> so no thought about the small 2-5 man guild? It seems that the better game content is now exclusively for huge Zerg Guilds. My guild currently has 3 active members and we will not have a chance to play this premium part of the game until after the servers are turned off. And no, we are not buying gems to pay for influence to get the good stuff. <facepalm, laugh, shakes head>

That’s not a guild. That’s a party. You’ve got plenty of content designed for you.

You complain about lack of choice. There are 9 different dailies to choose from.

Yes, about 3 I actually care about. The others I don’t even get involved in for day to day play.

And you’re completely missing a central goal of dailies which is to give you an incentive to visit content that you don’t usually visit.

There’s a reason I don’t visit them. If I wanted to visit content for the lols, I’d do it. If the central goal of dailies is to choke content down my throat, I’d load up another game and play what I want to.

The idea of dailies to me, as a veteran MMO gamer, is to enforce consistency. NOT persistency.

To cordinate 4 eles to time SW (min needed to defend properly aganist one incoming siege) is not that simple, to say it take no skill mean a person understand very little of it and how to counter it, if a tower is well defend as one claims, then it should have access to to more than one cat/treb, which 2 or 3 people can easily use to get passed SW if properly time.

Battle of attrition is not any more skilliful anyways and boring as hell, all your doing is turtling in a tower and waiting on your own zerg to wipe out the enemy, you should be happy that you only need a group of 20 people could take a heavly defended tower,
Either that or 50 plus people bushing their faces in to the door.

I get it, they don’t want us to hit/stealth/hit/stealth/hit/stealth. Revealed acts as an artificial cooldown on dagger/pistol/shortbow/sword 1 skills while stealthed. I find it pretty lazy but hey, what do I know.

Lazy….balance, same thing right?
btw you get revealed if you attack with anything from stealth, not just the #1 skills. it more for a thief to not enter stealth over and over again.

I can stealth 4 times, consecutively for almost 30 seconds. Revealed is just there to avoid, CD/Backstab/CD/Backstab ect ect…

See, instead of putting a cooldown on Backstab or other #1 abilities while in stealth, they put Revealed. It’s like patching a broken pipe with a piece of cardboard and electric tape. It’s lazy.

They put revealed in during the beta after people were just spamming C&D one after the other, #1 abilities had nothing to do with it. C&D used to do a lot more damage, it took a few nerfs to damage since then.

backstab:

- done by someone who is invisible
- no build up time or pre-combat requirement
- 100% crit chance
- no cooldown
- no initiative cost

While I agree with your brief analysis of killshot, I completely disagree with you about backstab, and here’s why…

  • Thieves can’t stealth for more than 4 seconds (traited) unless using Shadow Refuge, so a Thief is almost always visible before using stealth to prepare for a backstab.
  • Backstab itself does not have 100% crit chance at all unless traited, and 99% of the time a Thief will take Executioner over Hidden Killer since their crit chance is already over 50-60%.
  • The cooldown on Backstab is actually 3 seconds thanks to the revealed debuff and as long as it takes to get into stealth again via Cloak and Dagger or a utility. Cloak and Dagger uses 6 initiative (4 if traited) which regenerates at a rate of 1 per second (unless traited/using the correct utility) so each CnD uses 6 seconds (untraited) of initiative. Furthermore, if the Thief uses a utility to stealth then they have a minimum of a 40 second cooldown (Blinding Powder) before they can stealth again, slightly less if traited.
  • The skill itself doesn’t have an initiative cost, but see above for the cost of Cloak and Dagger.

Try not to spread misinformation on the forums, there’s enough of that going around already.

Thanks.

As some else point out, initiative gain is not 1 per second, plus with c&d, even with the trait you still need 6 to activate it, you just get two back,

I would also like to point out that the cast time on kill shot doesn’t really factor in all that much if the warrior is sitting in the back of their zerg

Maybe I had better luck with it, but I always felt the duration of stealth to be just right. Aggro drops often when I use it, usually the mob just pauses a moment or start to return to its spot before I attack again.

Only time when aggro doesn’t seem like it drops is when the mob is in mid attack during it, mob in the game for the most part have long casting animation, long enough for you to come out of stealth, causing the mob to re aggro you when it’s done its attack . That just coming down to timing and knowing when to stealth.

But really I use stealth to reposition my self, which is what the design of stealth really is
about, you shouldn’t be trying to use it to drop aggro too much at the risk of reseting the mob if you are soloing. Not much of an issue of there others around.

Thing about the down state is the stealth is only 2 seconds, again as I said mobs have long enough cast animation that it will re aggro you when you come out. What I try to do is save my 2 until 3 is up to pop that between attacks, and teleport away, that usually drops aggro enough for me to res my self.

Anyways when used properly, stealth is still a pretty strong tool in pve imo.

If one or the other were any less skilled, than the fight wouldn’t have last that long.

Would there be much to say if you fought another profession that long? I remember fighting a guardian with my own guardian (two completely different builds), and that lasted 15 mins before people came to help. What does that say about guardians?

Now people have given good advice on how to deal with thieves, but that only works so far. Until you meet a thief that knows how to work around that himself.

If you want to run a bunch of alts (I do), then don’t expect to be able to gear them ALL up at the same rate that a player who dedicates themselves to a single character, can. If you have six characters, it should take you roughly six times as long to completely gear them all up.

That used to be acceptable to altaholics. That used to go with the territory. I see no reason that needs to change now.

You obviously didn’t play GW1…*sigh*…good old times…
And yes, the whole deal with Ascended gear (especially once they roll out full Ascended gear) is anti-alts. At the moment, I am still ignoring Ascended because I just don’t want to jump onto that treadmill…but when we get nice looking Ascended armor? Man will I be frustrated >_>

Well seeing as this isn’t GW1, that not really a valid statement.

I don’t know about you but i had 15 characters in GW1, one of each profession, one extra assassin(favorite class), 3 pvp characters and a mule.
One fully kitted-out toon and the other toons had varying amount of “gear” (armour and weapon mods), never had more than 5-15 platinum in the bank, and never farm high-end areas.
It took me 4 years and was between causal and hardcore with it, did dungeons/missions/general exploring and causal pvp.
One of the differences between gw 1 and 2 is lvl cap and the way gear works, sure you can get max gear pretty quickly in gw1, but the gear mods took forever to get. With the lack of auction system, you were relying on drops, trading from player to player or farming up the cash to by them from vendors (cost depended on supply and demand).
You were never really maxed as a causal with all your alts, and had to deal using that gear in pvp vs the more hardcore crowd with actually maxed gear, unless your character was pure pvp which had it’s own progression system for gear and skills in pvp (unless you bought the pvp pack).
So I got to say GW 1 was not as easy for alts as some might think.
