I’ve leveled a human male and a sylvari male. Although the human may look more pleasing his battlecries just annoy me and his deathcry is just funny. Listen to a male sylvari and you’ll fall in love. Even after months of playing my sylvari I’m still not tired of listening to him. And I actually think he’s cute in an exotic kind of way.

By the way, I’m a girl so don’t give me those weird looks.

what most thieves do is pre cast C&D, then steal. Steal has no cast time therefore won’t interrupt C&D, allowing you to hit when you step to him, and prefect range for the BS

So was in WvW, and I was chasing an ele. Used shadowshot to close the gab, but the ele put her magnetic aura up before it hit, and reflecting back to me. that teleported her right to me. o.O. Not the most graceful gab closer ever seeing as i was blinded after…but it got the job done,

Poison is used to limit their healing which in turn helps out your damage… And condition builds are the nemesis to mesmers and warriors and other thieves… Just a simple trait can make poison last up to a minute and the only time I have every really gotten my tail handed to me be a thief is a venom/bleed thief… These are scarier than the BS burst thieves because they can keep reapplying the conditions easily… To the point where two of them is enough to take out an anti condition guard…. (One would do it under other conditions) But you have to accept the fact that currently people run condition cleanses because they feel that other wise the conditions are too strong to ignore one venom caltrops and stealing is enough to keep a full up time of poison on your target… And you also have the inflict weakness when you inflict poison trait… This is pretty much the antithesis of might… Dodging sucks and so does damage… Change your build around some get some sigils of venom/debility and condition damage runes and you will be fine… No need to introduce another weapon that is more than likely gonna suck worse than other weapon options.

While I would never disagree with the usefulness of poison I agree with your stance that it is ultimately not a damaging condition in itself, it is used to prevent healing. However healing is only one of the many ways to prevent damage in guild wars (see: aegis, protection, dodging, ect.). Also condition builds with thieves tend to benefit from stealth to improve survivability (stack conditions, stealth to recover, rinse, repeat). As such it would certainly help the thief to be able to apply another damaging condition so that condition damage can be spread over more conditions rather than being concentrated so that it is less effected by cleanse if built that way. Confusion would see less benefit to thieves because of stealth, stealth often presents a break in battle where skill use is lessened, meaning few procs to confusion. This leaves burning as the superior option, it just needs an implementation.

The reason I suggest the thief get the torch is because I would like to see the thief gain burning without tweaking the pre-existing skills (thief has seen some unkind changes, and reworking a utility skill to provide burning would likely mean it losing its current use). By adding the torch as an option current builds wouldn’t suffer (don’t like the torch? just don’t use it and see no change). The torch wouldn’t need a corresponding trait to improve it as it really is on the fringe of how a thief would behave.

Well confusion would work with stealth, because what does most people do when a thief stealth? auto attack and aoe everywhere. Would be useful is pvp, and in a group setting in pve.

Note, there’s a point where you get ported back to outside the spawn, so you have to die right before that spot.

There’s a heart karma vendor in either wayfarer foothill or snowden drifts that gives you a jotun greatsword, which is what my ranger is currently rocking. If your looking for a nature looking weapon, tribal greatsword would fit that bill.

i’ve used it a few times in fractals, in the beginning of grawl it was fun, and was really useful with the harpies. Kinda works with maw to take down the tentacles, but it gets targeted by maw.

hello,

T1 player here looking to transfer to a lower tier, how is the WvW scene in T2, is it anything like T1 with mega zerg balls in all WvW maps? Hows the skill lag for you guys?

I have to said your going to get mega zergs in any server you go in, the only difference is the level of organization in those tiers. One guild split up and headed to tier 8 because these higher tiers were too zergy. They found out that tier 8 is just as zergy but worst overall, needless to say they are coming back.

You see this is a huge mistake.

Its not normal, you should practice before queing up for tournies. This is usually done in hotjoin and refined for tournies. What pve people do(for laurels now) is just get into the mist and go straight to the tournie que.

Seriously, I’ve seen so many people who didn’t even bother to change runes or utilities just waltz right in like its just a matter of time before he was carried.

Are you seriously saying that hotjoin is training you to be a better tournament player? One is a clusterkitten zerg game were the biggest DPS and skill spaming wins and the other requires skill, team coordination and defensive specs to hold the points as much as possible.

-I’m not saying hotjoin>tpvp. I"m saying rank caps need to be in tpvp so pve players don’t just waltz in there without even speccing and go “huh, this sucks, why waste my time on spvp”.

At least it gives them a sense of what pvp is like. The objectives and team play for example.

I’d much rather have a simple rank 10 requirement than pve people going “this is my first time” and get crushed by a bunker 10 times in a row.

Having tpvp gated isn’t healthy for the game, that would create more problems than solve. It isn’t hard to get to a certain rank in hotjoin by running around zerging everywhere, then you get into Tpvp after a certain rank and all you know is how to zerg.
Which doesn’t cut it, it would be no better then to throwing a rank 1 in their.

So what if some pve’er get there butts handed to them, if they learn from it and try to better, then they will continued playing, if they don’t they will leave. It’s no big deal because at the end of the day, you still are gaining players. Even if it’s just for the laurels, their will be those that like it and keep doing it without the laurels.

I find it works pretty well as a guardian, as long as you use your skills and dodges effectively, should be any problem, Then again, if you were able to avoid it 100% alll the time, then you would need HP, but that goes the same a vitality or toughness. Most people in my guild swear by it with there build.

Effectiveness of Healing power depends on what class you are, and what you are are doing. Trying to heal your party? That will only going get you so far as this game doesn’t allow for dedicated healing classes, even eles and guardian will have a tough time healing if their allies are not up to par.
Trying to heal yourself? That’s fine if you have other sources of heals other than your #6,
Like alittle bit of healing on a thief and a trait that makes the thief heal in stealth is pretty strong combining with their hide in the shadow skill. I have a guardian that is spec’s pretty high in to healing and toughness, and i tank mostly anything.

But then again, i still need to avoid what i can i not be stupid on how i play.

(Ever seen a stoned tentacle at jade maw? it funny and disturbing at the same time)

Well, may be you are right regarding pve, I don’t really know. I spend 90% of gaming time in WvW, so my judgement was based on that. In WvW I don’t want to waste my elite on BV because in many situations Thieves Guild and Dagger Storm are superior, and DV is better for CC, imo.

I slot BV over DV in WvW if i run venom share, If not then i don’t bring either. Usually it spider, skale or ice drake, shadow refuge, and basilisks. Not a solo ganker, so I run with my guild most of the time and it works out just fine.

I’ve tried this build in spvp , works pretty decently with a berserker amulet and a knight jewel, You get decent amount of health if you get practiced tolerance.
Good spike, able to solo most classes, really nice control, and you can survive if you really needed too for a little bit.
Though there were times where i really missed my shortbow T_T lol.

Basilisks Venom Vs Moa Morph

Basilisk venom is inferior to the Devourer venom right now.
Detailed comparison:
CD – 45s(BV), 45s(DV). The same cd time.
Cast time – 1s(BV), instant(DV). DV is better than BV.
CC duration – 1.5s(BV), 2s(DV). DV is better than BV.
Number of applications – 1 hit(BV), 2 hits(DV). DV is better than BV.
Type of CC – Stun(BV), Immobilize(DV). BV is better than DV.
Conclusion: 3:1 in Devourer venom favor. The only thing Basilisk is better than Devourer is that it stuns the target instead of immobilizing it. I don’t know how can someone compare Basilisk venom to a Moa Morph if it is inferior even to the utility skill (Devourer venom).

I don’t think bugged, just a feature of the weapon. i don’t personally like having auto attack on for any character unless i’m attacking a boss, and i have sheath weapon key-bind to stop attacking, i don’t find it a big enough to deal imo.

Dps on a warrior’s axe is roughly the same on thieves daggers, if they are built similarly. They hit harder, but slow. taking 3.9s to complete a combo compared to a thieves which is about 2s. Misconception people make about it.

The comparison is that axe third chain in auto attack that takes 3.6s to go through hits harder than backstab that a thief requires 4.75s to go through at best (in reality more along the 5.75-6.75 range)

Auto attack damage only axe would still be ahead, the full chain for dagger deals a base of 7kittenage every 2 seconds, axe does a base of 1648 damage over 3.6 seconds.

So daggers auto attack is 380 dps axe is 458 dps

Funny, i’m getting ~900dps for the both, In the mist i use basic weapons, no traits, runes or sigils, and a beserker amulet on both. Stats are pretty much the same(axes slightly higher to due the damage on axes itself), and it take both 10s to down the light armor golem with just AAs. With the thief taking 6-7s to kill it with AAs + 2 C&D/BS combos . Been doing that test for the last hour and thats what i keep coming up with.
Just to note, i opened up with the BS combo, 2 auto chains and another BS. Doing it with an Auto combo first, one BS, and 2 more autos, took 8s

Well I was calculating with base stats only, throwing in C+D and BS without throwing in axe cooldowns will of course somewhat close the gap simply due to the fact that spending cooldowns should always gain more than not (be it more damage or more utility)

Even with base stats, i’m getting ~500dps over 10 secs with both of them with just autos.
Of course we have cooldown coming into effect, you cannot use BS without intiative or popping CDs. BS doing more damage compared to only axes auto is to be expected.

And Axes cleave up to 3 targets with their autoattack. Seems fair.

And daggers regens endurance and inflict poison. Different weapons are meant to be defferent, doesn’t mean one is better then the other, that cleaving wouldn’t be that helpful in a boss fight or 1v1 now would it.

OK. I have something to say about today’s(26 Mar) patch. Alot was told already but we (Thives) have so many tiny topisk on this huge problem.
Hope that at least one of them(maybe this one) will reach dev’s ears.
Playtested for a few hours, to make sure its THAT BAD. And it is.
There is no way i can discribe in words, how dissapointed i am about revealed chage.
It does not solve a CnD spam problem. But it take a huge part of what thief is: surv and attack thru stealth. Survivabuility decreaced dramaticaly.
4 secs of debuf hurts basicly all specs of this class. It ruins dmg rotations too.
Change is not balanced in any means. Hope Anet will undo it, or balance us with more surv/dmg/both to spvp competitive lvl.
At this point i feel no fun playing my thief and i think i ll give it a try to another class (any will do).

The dyes you get in the gem store are not guaranteed to drop a rare either you know, out of the last 5 i bought, i’ve gotten 0 rares.

Yeah I prefer to have my pet on passive, but I actively make it attack any target I choose, and swap pets for the quickness but also to refresh their health and take agro off. My pets last longer because of that.

Longbow's problem

While i agree that the tool tip activation time is incorrect (8 attacks within 10 seconds), that doesn’t really affect the dps of the range’r longbow compared to the warrior’s rifle.
I ran some tests with both a naked warrior and ranger with no traits, basic max weapons and a beserker amulet(speed things up). The first 2 pictures show those stats, you can see most of them are the same, with the warrior having a slightly higher attack power due the rifle’s damage.(LB 920-1080, rifle 986 – 1205)

After doing the test several times, the average time for both the ranger and the warrior to kill the target was roughly 15 sec. You can see the damage done to kill them with the second set of pictures. This was done with the ranger at max range, doing the test with her at point blank took about ~25 sec to kill.

In that test, the ranger had a dps of ~729.8 max range, ~429 point blank. while the warrior had about ~470 dps before the bleeds, ~685 after.

While i understand that it isn’t 100% perfect(stop watch, eye balling, and quick math), looking at this i can tell the ranger’s #1 long bow in terms of dps is on par with the warriors rifle……as long as the ranger is a max distance.

Remove stealth on miss/evade/block

If I’m in stealth and my opponent throws up a block, what am I supposed to do, wait it out? Those blocks(aegis) last more then 3-4 seconbds, If blocked attacks revealed, there nothing I can do, this suggestion would actually break stealth, I don’t this this suggestion was well thought out imo.

For the classes that can move while down, (elementalist, mesmers, thieves,) when you see a a thief stealth in-front of you, wait 2-3 seconds then over away.

Oh and ranger has an aoe daze i believe, and a guardian as an aoe knockback, so wait a few seconds and pop those off.

Then why are you arguing about my change? Your hit-volume is low, the change would increase your healing a lot due to being able to heal every second and not relying on gimmicks or high hit volume attacks, not decrease it.

While it may theoretically increase passive healing, it would directly kill 100% of my ability to tactically burst heal with dancing dagger through my own and the necro’s shadow fields, use daggerstorm+mad king birds to total tank, sustain things like graveling mounds with a shortbow, use enemy groups ressing as a health fulcrum, and a number of other situational tools that my gear is actually set up to do so that I spend less time in stealth and more time actively bleeding, snaring, blinding, burning, and otherwise softening/finishing targets.

I don’t use SoM as a passive part of my play, but as a very deliberate and active one. That’s what makes it worthwhile.

The “gimmicks” as you call them are integral to the entire setup of the build and how it interacts with the rest of the group. The use of SoM, as I use it, is literally the centerpiece of the build, not an afterthought. They’re what let me tank in PvE, they’re what let me personally move zergs in WvW, and they’re what let me create highly effective zones of denial and being the generally debilitating toolbox that I am in these situations to the betterment of my group.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not against SoM being made a little more desirable to other build types, but the cooldown and flat +heal removes all of the above. I really do think the active itself is where to put the adjustment, and I don’t know if you picked it up but I think changing that active to a short duration “super life leech” would keep the current use of the skill intact while making it more viable for use in more single target/evasive situations.

Honestly, the healing of it needs improved. How could you improve the heal without adding a cool-down?

Healing on the passive or active? because imo healing is just fine on the passive. For the active, it could as simple as lowering the cast time, or add some condition removal one it. I would love to see it remove weakness, vulnerability and confusion personally.

Equip Signet of Malice, caltrop, D/D and shortbow, and dagger storm. Plant aoe around you, dodge/avoid big hits, and spin to win, you will tank large number of mobs. Works on lot of bosses too, i’ve solo tanked alpha doing that, wasn’t graceful but it works.
I find the best role thieves have in dungeons is to combo your group’s fields. Spammable blasts, leaps, and whirls is a big help fromt he dungeons i’ve been in, thieves can do finishers better then any other profession imo. AoE stealth is also helpful. We have no hard heals, but if a ranger place a healing spring, i can bring a whole group from low to full health in a few seconds.

Not regularly no and tbh im getting bored of this arguement your entire reason for the change is because you want a new skill for YOUR build and don’t beleive anyone else could find value in using it in any other build.

So no, this is a bad change just like every other change you’ve suggested so far.

Actually doing this to SoM would open up a lot more builds for the class, not just one or mine, it would create more P/x builds.

I would like to say portals are still used often, and you can still portal 40-60 allies if you allow other mesmers to go through the portal first.

I haven’t had time to sit down and watch the entire video yet. Are they essentially going to nerf AoE in general without any consideration for the effects it might have on PvE?

From what i remembered from the video about it, they are still looking into changing aoes, but they understand they need to be careful, and it won’t be a easy, so it’s going to take some time. (watched it a few days ago)

It’s already probably the best S/D tank heal in the game. Traited, it’s cooldown is only 12 seconds and it gives you a 5 stack of might. Combined with sword’s cleave proccing it up to 3x per attack makes it just perfect. We already have 2 good large castable heals, these changes would only pigeon-hole our class further.

Any smart player would realize that it has a hilariously long cast-time, making it prone to almost all CC, which is why nobody in tournament play would ever use it as such. Withdraw is almost 100x better then it is atm for that.

Not to mention, you rarely NEED to cast it if you’re playing right, you aren’t getting hit much.

True, if I have to pop the heal, something wrong and i ain’t going to last too long unless i have gtfo.

It’s already probably the best S/D tank heal in the game. Traited, it’s cooldown is only 12 seconds and it gives you a 5 stack of might. Combined with sword’s cleave proccing it up to 3x per attack makes it just perfect. We already have 2 good large castable heals, these changes would only pigeon-hole our class further.

Blinding Powder should be a stun break

The only thing about it is blinding powder is an aoe stealth vs decoy’s self stealth,
but it would be a reason to bring it over shadow refuge.
