Holy kitten man, got something to prove? The guy is stating is stating own opinion, why such kitten all over that? Yeah you stating your own opinion, but get over your self and stop with this venomous attitude.

I’ve lurked more than I’ve posted and I’ve seen him meander in and out of threads. He is mis-representing his position and has posted conflictory statements. But the title and theme of this thread is intended to give him credence and credibility he no longer has.

It’s really quite simple, he’s protecting his new pet class the way he protected his old. Though in honesty warrior actually needs the support, thief does not. His exact reason for rolling thieves, by his own words, is that thieves and mesmers outclass everything else in WvW and sPVP.

Quite frankly he was right in his assertion. He is also right in his new assertion that it takes skill to reach those levels of power. Skill he self-admittedly does not have playing a thief or countering them. Currently he is at the level of “decent” and he can counter “decent”

Rather than seek to correct some of the few things that imbalance those two classes so the other 6 can be competitive however, he “joined the bandwagon” and is no campaigning to keep them from being nerfed for his own benefit.

I don’t have any problem against him personally, but that whole line of thought and situation quite frankly stinks. When you “join the bandwagon” on the OP classes you just become part of the problem.

Perhaps the saddest thing about it is that a few select things are keeping thieves from having more viable lines and keeping some of the mesmer lines from being smoothed out as easily. But then, some of this may happen with the “major trait overhaul patch” happening at the end of this month. We shall see. I know I for one will laugh if thief or mesmer get nerfed in specific ways.

I think your taking things way too seriously, chill out, it be good for your health :P

It’s even buried in the mountain of words here lol.

5: Playing a thief really changes your outlook on how they operate. When everyone says Play one to Learn one, They really mean it. When I got to 80 on my thief and spent a hundred or so hours in WvW with it, I was able to get back to my warrior and I could SEE WITH MY OWN EYES exactly what the thief was going to do before they could.

You too can counter thieves and all you need to do is spend 100 hours playing thief first!!!

It was so predictable “Okay he is using D/D and just used Cloak and dagger, probably going for a backstab in 3,2,1… EVADE” What do you know, He missed and i stun locked him with a hammer.

Oh wait, no, you can counter the BAD thieves who are predictable. Because good thieves are not predictable folks. Predictability is the sign of someone relying on a gimmick, gimmick users are not good players. Example 100b warrior vs a good warrior who happens to use the great sword.

I honestly feel silly for ever complaining about thieves. They are an annoyance at best for experiences players and really only kill people learning to get around WvW. So if you keep getting killed by thieves play one at level 80 for a few hours in WvW and see how hard it really is.

Ironically he can only counter predictable thieves after playing thief for over 100 hours, but calls anyone that cannot counter them “people learning to get around in WvW.”

So after months of complaining I rolled a thief and now after getting decent at it I can say the following…

Oh and he says all of this after spending over 100 hours playing thief and only considering himself “getting decent at it”. So is basing his judgements of how easy it is to counter thief off of him self-admittedly not even being good at it himself after over 100 hours of play on it.

Holy kitten man, got something to prove? The guy is stating is stating own opinion, why such kitten all over that? Yeah you stating your own opinion, but get over your self and stop with this venomous attitude.

No, it does not. Any Thief worth his salt will avoid any AoE fields. Unless you have a team of 7 Power Necromancers all using Deathshroud 4 simultaneously nearby the Thief, you won’t kill him.

You right, with a brainless zerg that thief will have field day, too bad with a group that know what they are doing will not let that happen,

He could have done anything really, and yes aoe does happen to work,

Not sure if serious. If a thief runs into aoe, is because he wants, it’s quite easier to dodge red circles in general. Is even easier vs necros, since you can dodge and ’’trigger’’ wells whitout being dmged. Problematics aoes are stuns/fears/cc (shadow return says hi), and conditions (shadow arts tree).
Yeah a thief can troll you forever.

Troll? yes, kill? only the stupid.

BobbyT.7192

I quote myself from another thread I was in

Well you know, Range is in the ranger’s name, so why use anything other than a bow? like that’s what real rangers are all about right? :P.

This class really gets a bad rep based mainly on the type of players that plays it, people come into this class expect a master of range in a game where melee is boss.
They sit in the back and fire away while their pet or an ally tanks the mob for them, and open world doesn’t forces them to think other wise.

My friend who has been playing the game just as long as I have is this type of person for the ranger. All he wants is to take a bow. And sit in the back, he runs up to drop a healing spring, he does res, know how to dodge and all that stuff, but that’s all he does for the ranger.

He made almost every other class, and he plays them really good, but with the ranger it just seems he chooses to play with one eye closed. And I know he is not the only one, which is really sad, because ranger can be really good, but people don’t play it to the fullest and gets viewed in a negative light because of it.

Even now that’s how he think, regearing his ranger for magic find to farm southsun(to get some use out of it), but brings all bows, complains with the lack of aoe. I keep telling him, "pick up a great sword/sword anything and tank face. -_-

It a real shame.

gw2 is not balanced for 1 vs 1

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

BobbyT.7192

The game isn’t designed around 1v1, but it still happens and can be a pretty solid indicator that something is terribly wrong with a class when 3 of the 4 posts you put here had to do with thieves being imbalanced in 1v1 :-P

but … what if …
thieves are supposed to be “imbalanced” in 1 vs 1 ? O_O

I don’t think most people really want to accept that, yeah if your really skilled, you can 1v1 anything with anything. But if a class by design is suppose to handle 1v1 situations and escape better than anything else, then why can’t it?

There was a live stream with one of the Dev’s doing WvW, his group came across stealth thief was running circles around them, Dev said pretty much “don’t bother, you’re not going to kill it”.
A lot of people got really angry, people don’t want to accept it. that will never change i don’t believe.

BobbyT.7192

Every group I did Null with was incredibly disappointed by the content. “Is that it?” was one of the most common responses. Speed clearing essentially attempts to turn every dungeon into something akin to Null + old school Orr CC nightmares between the fights (which was almost universally hated) – just tkittenential boss fight that spawns the loots. Your “fun” is simply the loot, when you are sacrificing everything else to complete the run as quickly as possible, it’s not the experience you are prioritising, it’s the loot at the end of it.

How can you possibly expect us to be excited about the journey when you have to do 20 runs of one dungeon to get a full set of armor. More if you want weapons and more if you have alts. Then because it’s the only half interesting PvE activity at endgame, we’ll be running it even more. I only completed Dungeon Master a couple weeks ago and already my Hobby Dungeon Explorer has filled up 20 times. If I had gotten DM last year I’d probably have upwards of 1000 points on that title. This game’s rewards aren’t designed such that you do the content once or twice and that’s it. You have to do it over, and over, and over….

That’s why people want to minimize time in dungeons. So, you go play in your stop and smell the roses groups, and leave us to play in ours. Stop telling us how to play in our groups.

So if the dungeon rewarded a full set of armour in 2-3 runs, a weapon or 2 on the 4th or 6th run, and gave at least a gold and a ecto drop, you would take your time on that dungeon? And still run it numerous time just for the hell of it.

I’ll be disappointed if this is the case. There is no time whatsoever that a sickle should be swung like that. A hoe, maybe, but even then you don’t generally swing a hoe over your head.

Champion Imbued Shaman Battle

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: BobbyT.7192

BobbyT.7192

It’s a fight that overly relies on certain class mechanics not available to everyone. If you are in a PUG group that doesn’t have a member of X profession (or doesn’t know what they are doing), it can be impossible to carry depending on your class more than your ability. And like I said earlier, the majority of the problem is with the poor choice of adds, otherwise it’s just another fractal encounter that zones melee.

Anyways it can’t be solely written off as ‘l2p’.

The challenge only starts when adds appear. The champ shaman alone is not a problem.

This is not a representation of what each class is fully capable of
These are merely a few reflects/projectile blocks that i can think off the top of my head

mesmer
temporal curtain + warden’s feedback trait
phantasmal warden + warden’s feedback trit
feedback

guardian
wall of reflect
shield of avenger
sanctuary
shield of absorb

elementalist
magnetic aura + trait powerful auras (party reflect)
swirling winds (it might be broken for this fight, shall confirm)
magnetic wave

thief
daggerstorm
smoke screen

ranger
whirling defense

==========
Other skills that help manage adds

race: sylvari
Root racial elite

engineer
Lots of AoE immobilize and cripple

ranger
barrage
other aoe immobilize and conditions

Warrior
longbow F1 > 3 > 2 > optional: banner down > pickup and 5 (for might )
warbanner : so many butts saved by warbanner

Necro
tons of bleeds
epidemic

too lazy to think of more

warrior shield 5 is only for burst protection/dodge alternative, better use warhorn 5 (also a blast) for damage mitigation

Aside from “reflects” team has to AoE bomb the grubs FAST

so unless you plan on rolling with a team composition of 5 warriors then I dont think there’s a problem here

Warriors can also trait to reflect (not common but hey it’s something) and engineers have their shield and a trait or 2.

But yeah, as painful as this boss can be, he is doable with a semi competent group.

Do people still hate/avoid RANGER and THIEF?

Rangers are the worst class for most dungeons and definitely the worst for fractals. Your group should be grouping up mobs and cleaving them. Rangers have single target dps which adds little value in that scenario which consists of half or more of a dungeon. Their utility value is out shined by other classes as well. They are a burden at high level fractals and lead to longer runs and more wipes because of these 2 things.

Thieves are middle ground as far as classes go but if your group has no problem skipping or doing the content then mesmers and guardians have better utilities and warriors have better dps so it’s better to bring them instead. I don’t mind having a good thief in the group though.

The problem also is the players’ mentality. Rangers are a very laid back class to go wander around with. When it comes to dungeons it seems like most don’t know the content, don’t know their class, don’t know how to dodge, don’t know how to manage pets, and don’t want to have any responsibilities like picking up the hammer. I’ve seen so many thieves just run in and die over and over again or just range the whole time and very few that really know how to play their class. That is another reason why people avoid/hate these classes.

That’s odd, my drakes, greatsword, and axes cleave on every attack. But last time we played together we were beating Simin on our first try (back during Simin hard mode) and I was full on single target DPS so maybe you don’t remember that ranger cleaves. I regularly reflect 50k on lupicus phase 2 aoe as well akitten every target for 5000 with path of scars using clerics armor. But, yeah, surprised you didn’t know rangers cleave like that.

It’s rare that I see a ranger with anything but a bow. Out of all the rangers I’ve partied with in dungeons I’ve seen maybe 2 use something else. You are in the one percent. Which brings up the topic point.

Well you know, Range is in the ranger’s name, so why use anything other than a bow? like that’s what real rangers are all about right :P.

You can’t even counter what I say because you know I am right, and that’s the best type of comedy there is to me. Go on dazzle me with your wit.

I already let you know exactly what the point of my vid was, not my fault you can’t accept that you’re getting super mad about nothing. If you want to pick it apart so much and try say how good you are then go ahead and make your own videos. Sad thing is you’d probably fail even if you tried to cheese your way through a fight like that with the whole 30 points into SA to perma invis through that fight, using only caltrops, chocking gas, and maybe whatever asura abilities you want. Thing is you haven’t done that to prove how effective slowly bleeding out your targets. Bet you’d mess up one of the invis’ before killing anything, revealing yourself just long enough to get jumped by the mobs and dropped. Want to complain about my play? Go ahead. Before you keep making yourself sound like a fool try to do something that proves you’re actually good instead of just sounding like an internet troll whose only skill is complaining.

Now please try coming up with some original comeback instead of just repeating what I said. About everything you’ve said so far, I am not impressed, just amused.

Let me simplify this for you since you think you argument is strong(you kids and your “You got mad so I win” logic failure).

You put up a crappy video of crappy game play. You brag about it. I tell you sed crappy video is full of crappy game play. You accuse me of being mad and make a list of why you played like kitten. I respond you still played like kitten. Wall of text telling me I couldn’t do better and to prove.

Here the part where I remind you that you put up this video of your own free will. And that no one asked for it. You opened yourself for critique. It has been given.

Honestly haven’t you realized your the one trying to impress me? Look at what you have said so far backing up your play. Your trying to convince me what you did was good. You sad little thing haven’t you realized that yet? I have nothing to defend but you do. Not my video son its yours. If you didn’t want criticism why upload your video hmm?

Well with farming those certain areas where all you got to do is tag mob, group’s dps will be tooo high to make anyone person’s dps matter. What matters is to tag as many mobs as possible, and thief do not fall short on that.

With respects to heal, it true the healing doesn’t scale well with most abilities, Tho imo, passives on SoM is one of those rare gem that does scale nicely with it,

Well, that’s about as relevant as a stripper at your great-grandma’s 100th birthday party, but I’ll answer.

What I meant was: even if it can be done in 20-30 minutes, it would mean I now have less time to play the game and have fun, as I had to spend that time doing chores instead of playing.
So if you have 40 minutes to play, now you only have 10 or 20 minutes left to play.

Thief and Dungeon balancing?

Why do people assume anger when writing in caps denotes that emotion? Learn to read, and I quote,“you’re only fueling their simpleminded approach to things.” meaning he applied the ideas I presented as the consensus of some players as my own. I simply corrected him as I am correcting you now.

If you read my first post I stated what support skills thief have (seriously people have to learn to read). The rest of this portion of your post is a long winded rehash of this so this is as far as I comment on it.

Also I have 5 80s and it doesn’t change the facts. Conversely to you I have the simplest time on ele and warrior. The fastest runs usually come with mesmer. Ranger and thief are the least likely classes I will do most strenuous content with. It would also inefficient to run dungeons with them all unless I needed max token.

No matter what way I look at it there are advantages to running some classes over the other. You have many toons so this should be apparent by now but blind is the least effective form of support in a boss fight. It’s not like I am lying or exaggerating. Its the truth so I would suggest you all get over it and ask for the buffs that are needed instead of trying to justify mediocrity. Thieves are somewhat ostracized in PvE for a reason. Most players are not stupid. they realize how limited a thieves roles are in PvE and their inherent survivability issues and the need to disengage from combat in many cases simply to survive.

Like I said before stop the selective reading and looking for something to argue over. It is kind of disgusting don’t you think?

If you actually read that properly, you can easily tell he meant a general “you” not you personally, but this is not a grammar lesson. You’re also not doing caps, but bolding everything. Either way, people only really do that to display emotion, (generally speaking), so i’m sorry but I just find you an angry angry person because of it. If you really don’t people to think angry, then stop doing that, it’s not helping your argument any to begin with.

Blinds for bosses are the only kink in support for the thief, 10% is too low for something that a block can do 100%. That said, Thieves can spam more blinds then most can block. It really doesn’t take much to perma blind everything, and certainly not hard to do. Case in point, a thief with an off-hand pistol at maw makes the tentacles a joke.
Even with multi-hit attacks, a thief could negate a good chunk of that with one attack.
I do think blinds and most CCs need to be looked at for the defiant buff that bosses get. But i don’t thieves suffer that great because of it.

Thief and Dungeon balancing?

However none of this in some players minds will justify carrying a thief as that is exactly what the party does in most cases carry you.

totally disagree, i alternate between a boon/support/healing mesmer and zerker thief in pve, and find both useful. I never get complaints from a party about carrying me…i do sometimes get kicked by zerker groups looking for a mesmer, before we even enter the dungeon…but you’re only fueling their simpleminded approach to things. Thieves can be as good in many situations as other classes, and just better in quite a few…but skill does enter into it.

As for a thief who cant dodge or kite or manage aggro….well take that trait to make you do more damage in your downed state, maybe you can contribute that way.

Don’t misquote me. I have never ever kicked a thief or any other class for being that class. However, I have carried teams. Fact is thief simply is not as useful as most other classes. Its not so much a debate as it is simply one of the facts of this games mechanics. The more classes you play and level the more you see it. So no I would never do the elitist bullkitten and kick thief, but I truly disgust lying about and over exaggerating the class whether it be good or bad. In most situation a thief is really being carried by the team as the thieves contribution simply is not the same. Even when they are contributing as much s they possibly can.

Lets cut the bs thief has a low ceiling on group support in dungeons almost every other class is higher.

BTW f your talking about CoF zerker parties some actively seek out a thief or 2. For that dungeon thief burst isn’t really an issue and group support is barely needed.

Also how do you totally disagree when you selectively quote? Did I say thieves are useless all the time or did I say “in some players minds”? You need to read what a wrote before you respond and stop looking for this to argue over. I never said “I” learn to read I am going to start emphasizing this as many of you have problems reading full paragraphs stating 2 sides of an argument. One of the reason players have a misconception of the thief and its roles is due to players such as yourself over emphasizing a thief’s usefulness and trying to compare it to builds more oriented for party support. I do not diverge from the facts and I would appreciate if you did the same. I do not appreciate players like you actively arguing against a buff for thieves in PvE when it is clearly needed.

So angry, it really shows with the double post, :p. He never said that you kick thieves from groups, he just stated that it has happen to him, nor is he stating that you think thieves are useless, i have no idea where you get that.

Now it is fact that thief support is very limited in the way the a class like a guardian or a ele can supports. and there is no one actually saying a thief can support in the same manner like them.

  • Buffs
  • Condition removal
  • Heals

These a what most people think of they they think of support, Thieves are able to do these things but clearly do not excel in them. But is that the end all be all of support? Should people expect a thief to have the same support capacity as a guardian or be buff to that point? Does the support a thief can bring not shine enough on it’s own merits?
Aoe Stealth; projectle block; blinds; blast finishers; these are how thieves can support. People can belittle these all they want, doesn’t mean they aren’t useful when they are needed. Do not take this as me saying you belittle them, just others will underestatimate it.
Same with tanking or holding aggro, thieves can do just fine going toe to toe with most mobs(bosses) out there, and the only time they can’t would not be a good idea for anyone anyways.
I have lvl 80 guardian, ranger, engineer, mesmer, with a thief as a main. they all play very differently, but i can be effective with all of them to the best of my ability. At the end of day, isn’t that what most people want? I don’t have an easier time just because i’m on my guardian, i have an easier time because people know the what the hell they are doing and know their class, no matter what class I happen to be on.

Don’t know why they would, I never complain about carrying the team on my thief :p.

sigil of blood heals for 453 at level 80, and an additional 1 health for every 10 Healing Power.

i run almost similar traits, 0/30/0/20/20, taking taking uncatchable or bountiful theft, with signet of malice, D/D, and caltrops. you get really nice sustain with that. especially with some healing and condition gear.

It’s not the size of the hammer that matters, it’s how you use it.
