If you anticipate the 100blades (see the warrior running towards you) and you have the right utility skills on your hotbar then yeah its L2P. If you do not see the warrior or you simply dont have the utility skill ready/off cooldown then its definately not L2P, then it becomes almost impossible to avoid.

hows that?

the problem is with the first part of your statement, if you see a warrior charging towards you, and you have cooldowns or dodge up, then yes, it’s also l2p.

however the difference between warrior 100b combo and thief instant mug/cnd combo is you have maybe 0.1s, if that to counter it. the fact that thiefs can blink 1200 range to do mug/cnd instantly is not a l2p issue. no other GC build for any class is able to front load their damage that quickly from that range.

1200 with what?
The utility skill Shadowstep? no thief will waste a skill like that for a burst.
Steal? it’s 900 range, 1200 for a major trait that no one takes anyways.

Plus if you didn’t notice it to begin with, it wouldn’t matter if the GC was 1200 or 1 range away, or going to eat it, what would you say if you didn’t see the warrior coming and/or your "ohkitten skills were on CD?

i would say oh well, he deserved the kill. the problem is even if you see the thief coming, you aren’t going to be able to anticipate when he steal/cnd’s you, since those 2 actions are instant. the ONLY way to anticipate it if they use a setup skill like basilisk venom or something, but generally, you dont need it to secure a kill against another GC.

if all your cooldowns are up, and you see a thief coming, you should be able to counter it if you have a reasonable reaction time. this is not the case atm with the instant mug/cnd damage each doing up to 7k on another GC.

Then how come alot of people are claiming they can avoid a mug/cnd combo? cheating i bet. Plus if it a GC vs another GC, it’s fair game

Just throw the vulnerablity on to unload, (maybe make it more bullets in the same duration for the same damage), give 2 a short(250~) evade backward with a single target cripple. Pump ricochet % up a bit for the people that want aoe, and improve the fire rate of vital shot ( reduce damage if needed)

This would cover most of the bases people are looking for in this set, imo

Combat roles, no trinity...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BobbyT.7192

BobbyT.7192

I have no idea what the OP is looking for in roles that isn’t already there. Yeah sure, no one has a set role in a group from start to finish except damage, but there’s other things to be considered for a group to be successful.

I wouldn’t call them roles for this game, more like tasks, situation that happens and the group need to decide how to respond to it. The more common situation that happens is someone went down (happen to the best of us) and needs a res. Now some one now needs to res that person, they get that person up, and maybe they used a skill to help them to that, (guardian bubbles, aoe stealth, CCing mobs). Support becomes very noticable when you prevent wipes with it.

Or the group gets to a part of the dungeon that requires a different strategy, like in CoF path 2 you need to protect a npc while he opens a door (this is used in other dungeons), best way for group to do this is have one person kite around the mobs away from the npc, and take turns once that person is down.Theres actually alot more examples than that, and it make this game really dynamic.

These tasks are not limited to one certain class and can be done with almost any class. Certain builds of these classes make each task better than others, a tankier build for example would help more in that CoF situation than beserker. Doesn’t mean a beserker can’t do it, just means they’ll have a harder time with it.

I complete disagree on what people are saying that you can’t tank or heal others, i have a guardian in full cleric gear with a staff and hammer, and i saved so many with the heals i put out, of course i can’t save everyone everytime, but if people are dodging big attacks and healing them selfs, it is completely possible. And that build is fairly tanky too, to the point that i can stand toe to toe with most bosses for a good while (kholer still kicks my kitten tho ><). support is really nice too with i do 15 stacks of aoe might in one go.

Same with my thief, i built it to take on a large amount of mobs with a unicorn build with decent amount of healing, now thieves don’t have a huge amount of support (some buff and aoe stealth) but my ranger friends know well enough that if they put a healing spring down, a lot of heals will be coming there way when i start combing them. The thief is not a healer, but i can pretend to be one and it works out just fine.

I’ve had a few groups gone sour, someone would be curses the whole time because it’s too hard and alll theya re doing is damage, or leave if they downed a bunch of time (not dead, just downed). these people were just sitting in the back range attacking or going toe to toe with beserker gear and not keeping them self alive properly. They wouldn’t even help res down players, it forced be to run back from the mob i was keeping busy just to res the person who was being stepped on by the guy who wasn’t res’ing. Those people still had the trinity mind set and did not want to change how they did things. and i’m glad they are leaving this game, if you can’t adjust yourself to this game, you shouldn’t be here.

TL:DR,
*Roles in a group are not set in stone and player need to adjust themselves for every situation that happens.

*Certain builds make these roles easier, and they do exist, but they are not end all be all for these roles

*people who don’t learn this won’t have a good time with the game.

My usually group that i do dungeons with knows this well enough and throws thems down often because of it. Shadow refuge also heals a good chuck too.

Lack of Racial identity after order quests

in Personal Story

Posted by: BobbyT.7192

BobbyT.7192

Something thats kinda bothering me with how your character acts after joining the orders. Any personality they had before seem to dissolve and a generic one put in place that is the same with the other races.

You only really start to notice when you played through the story a few times, or watch someone go through with different characters to notice.

For example, i watch a buddy with his asura as he first met his mentor for the priory, the conversion seem normal and didn’t seem off. I do the same when i did it with my Charr, and it was the same dialog, and it had the same tone and reaction as my buddy’s asura.

For realistic sake, that wouldn’t happen. When a free spirit Sylvari want to deviate from a order she was given, which take the recruit to the priory, a militaristic Charr should be like, “No, we have orders to go to do this” not “Yeah sure sounds like fun”, even if she was his superior.
The Charr before joining order was someone who wanted to do everything efficiently, didn’t matter how. These 2 personalities should be clashing together at the start. I’ve only started that so i don’t know how the story goes after that, but i’m not really impressed with it so far. Like the personality shouldn’t change that fast should it?

Another example is when you do the apatia story line, at the end of it my Norn return to hoelbrak to tell the legend of apatia. As a norn he understood what he was doing and what it meant to his people, it felt important him. My friend’s Sylvari does the same thing and it used the same dialog, and to me it just made what my norm did feel bland. I would think a norn talking about another norn would be a different then any other race in that kinda of setting.

I think the personality should stay with each race, it puts you off a bit.

Armor clipping:

This is the top tier fine/masterwork armorsmithing set. My voluptous female norn warrior has the fullest body type, and her booty clips against the back of the skirt when she stands idle. There’s also some slight clipping going on in the front of the chest piece.

This bug is particularly disappointing to me because this set is the one used at the character creation screen, and the default female norn warrior’s body type has no clipping issues. I thought the armor skin looked awesome and looked forward to using it as I created the character, only to find a bug with my favored body type

Maybe if that Norn slimmed down a bit she wouldn’t be bursting at the seams but in all seriousness……i got nothing else to add to that :p

How can an ele move faster? The highest move speed Increase I see is 33% for swiftness, everything else doesn’t stack. A shortbow thief still moves around faster than any swiftness toon. Yes heartseeker may be faster, but IA is no sloth.

I don’t agree with the whole range = mobility much. A 900 range thief can do just fine getting in and out just fine of combat when he needs to, 1200 is not needed imo

You may not agree with it, but it is actually true. In a general sense it is even mentioned in the Art of War. Just because you or any thief can do fine getting in and out of combat when needed, does not mean other classes cannot do the same. As A-net advertised before release, we were supposed to be the staple mobility class. Stealth is just a fluff mechanic, this is unarguable. Other games = Perma, GW2= sub 10 seconds, and 90% of the time sub 4 seconds.

Sure, if a class that can grant itself swiftness easily does NOT use any weapon abilities that cause movement, a Thief with the signet and spamming IA/Heartseeker will move faster, and to move faster (ie: beat the other class) they have to dump the same resource they will need if they ever want to do enter combat. If the other class has movement abilities , not counting the ones granting them the swiftness, (ex: Warrior GS) which have a low cooldown, and uses them, you will see them and the thief neck and neck, and the thief will not be able to jump right into combat with a rotation but the other class (ex: warrior) will as they only have been using 1-3/10 weapon cooldown abilities in their arsenal. Sacrificing the most for equal mobility =/= superior mobility

An ele with a few points into air and only using 1 weapon cooldown will beat a thief dumping all his initiative for movement speed.

Honestly Id personally rather the thief have it’s damage spread out, causing more conditions and effects, BUT have the highest (and noticeably highest at that) mobility in the game (or the only class not to be slowed in combat) with zero weapon abilities that are detrimental to that mobility (like self root on PW) , then it’s current state

Speed boosts do not stack, from traits or skills, it certainly doesn’t stack with swiftness, It will always take the higher value. If they could stack, thieves would be able to move >50% faster with swiftness + signet of shadow. Which I assure you they don’t.

Incorrect again. They DO stack on an ele. Whilst the traits+signet might not stack with swiftness, the traits+signet ALL stack. Make an ele and test it out yourself.

A. It’s really not that big of an issue tho, with proper managing, thieves can still get anywhere faster and the disadvantage is minor.

As I said in another topic, the advantage of initiative is not to pull off ten different skills , (more skills doen’t mean your playing better) but to use what you need and to do whatever you want. If all I want is damage, I can use my most damaging skill, I don’t give a baby cat about anything else. If I need mobility, I going to move, and not let anything stop me, yes initiative will limit me, but any half decent thief can overcome that.

B. And I have tested elementalist move speed buffs thank you very much, and I promise you they do not stack.

A. the difference is noticeable and having to do more work for equal or less mobility does not make us the staple mobility class that A-net said we were designed around.

B. They do stack, so clearly you did not test it.

It a matter of opinion then, I believe initiative feels right, the advantages I get from it out weigh the disadvantage imo, and I do not I’m doing more work, and different work.

And I have no idea how this misconception about move speed came to be, and I hate being called a liar, I have tested this since the first bw1, and it the results now. They do not stack, I’m not the only one that tested, it’s be documented and proven, believe what you want, your not right.

Initiative: The forgotten class mechanic.

in Thief

Posted by: BobbyT.7192

BobbyT.7192

Initiative is pretty much the defining part of the thief, more so than steal, it really sets them apart from any other class.

The fact other professions are able use alittle more skills than the thief is not the point. The point that makes this class is that I can use whatever I want for whatever I need. That makes the thief one of the more flexable classes in the game.

Also unless your really bad, your not going to be spamming your skills on cd, a lot of the skills in this game are situational. Your really not going to increase your dps by firing and forgetting, as a lot of skills are comparable to auto attack, with the few that do a lot of damage being easily avoided. Point being is that the advantage of other class being able to use more skills is not really an advantage. No one wants to use a cd unless it’s actually needed, and sometime damage in not needed.

Not feeling the Thief in PvP: Far too focused on cookiecutter builds.

Has anyone actually thought that the reason some thieves are having trouble beating people with non-cookie cutter build is because the people they are fighting are using cookie cutter build? There’s a reason why they exist, because they are the easiest to play. All classes have them.

In order to do well with a non-cookie cutter build, you actually have to be a half-decent player.

If you know how to shotgun cluster bomb, it becomes a very damaging close range weapon. Gain most effectivness in a zerg, but holds its own 1v1. You can spec for crit damage which is 3-4k crit for a single hit ( that’s pretty high, if your close range you can fire this cheap skill pretty fast), or spec condition damage and have the poison and 3 stacks of bleed per detonated cluster, which can stack pretty high if your up close.

Next, for other classes to get close to a thief in speed they need to trait pretty good for it, so don’t say they don’t sacrifice anything.
The only thing a thief needs in order to beat a perma swiftness toon is a shortbow. Also any half decent thief will limit putting him/herself in a possible where they are in danger after using their mobility. If you’re unable to move around in combat like you own the place, either lrn2play, reroll, or unistall.

Not only does the other team end up with the capture if you were trying to take it or defend it, but they get the points from killing you. Now points you get per kill may seem like they don’t matter, but I’ve seen matches win and lose by a few point. More often than enough to convince me that every kill counts.

And saying that “it’s just a game” is not a vaild argument. Lots of people take satification and pride whenever they do something well. Should your enjoyment trump theirs?

That and I’m needed somewhere else.
