This is one of those bugs that make me think anet is intetionally trolling ranger players for the lols.
Brave to do a four omega golem rush combined a zerg to downtier our whole border, gj AG.
Well, Ag is the fotm server of this month with the new guilds and all so it has always a morale boosting effect to the population. That is until people get matched up with the top tier german servers they go back to complaining about offpeak golem rushes instead of doing them themselves.

All the lingering ranger bugs were converted to features by the devs. Saves valuable developement time.

He said making the pets less dumb and better was like giving the possibility to warriors to dual wielding greatswords. He prolly just wasn’t expecting a pet ai question so he went into panic mode since he very well knows what a poopfest the pet ai is and started rambling about dual greatsword warriors but still it was so funny

I would have liked to keep the pet mechanic but seeing the devs have no ability or professional pride i’m stuck still with the poorest pet class implementation i’ve seen in a game in the last decade. The beta has lasted a year already.
+1 Remove the pet.Or better yet,hire some competent developers and fix the pets.
Unwarranted complaining or not people have the right to complain about the product if they are not happy about it. There’s nothing wrong with that. Anet would be dumb not to listen to their customer concerns. Whining about whining is totally pointless and useless.
Also, there are no ‘dps’ professions in the game.
I’m sure the devs can handle the feedback without you defending them. Atleast most professionals do. They even may learn something about it. Unlike from this thread.
TKT had their more or less first guild run @ Elona today with 15ish people.. Some fun fights, though we wiped instantly against the first organized group we tried to fight ^^ We’ll practice on it

Yeah, keep up the good work And a very respectable choice of borderlands , it’s not easy to go against fully upgraded german borderland stacked with angry arrowcart people.
Did they all move to AG in the hopes they can hold hands with TUP or did they move back to their old servers?
Expect more pvdooring and server stacking once they start rewarding winning servers.
In part we, the players are to blame for the differences in servers. Tier does not equal skill, period. Only mindset and coverage/population.
Agreed , the players ruined the game themselves when all the happy bandwagon zerglings transferred their way to the few top servers thinking they just instantly got better in playing the game once they logged in to their bandvagon target server.
Think how awesome would it be if all the servers would be more or less equally matched in numbers with the random matchups. There wouldn’t be a boring moment in the game.
The best reward they could introduce to wvw would be fixed the bad matchup system.
Giving out champion chests and wxp chests isn’t going to fix lopsided matchups.
Aside of PPT, are other servers getting good fights or is it as one sided as the PPT is in some cases?
I’m not saying this system is awesome, but if you’re getting good fights who cares? Fighting 1 to 2 have generally been the most fun fights for me.
PPT isn’t just some abstract number.
It means you have only T1 towers at your disposal and the opponent perpetually fully upgraded T3 towers.Isn’t it though? Towers only really matter if you’re going for PPT. Last week for us it was JQ/FA/Mag, Mag came in last by far and JQ ahead by over double. Mag were much fiercer opponents than JQ. PPT =/= Skill
Tower’s/Keeps matter the other ways too. Once the coverage server has upgraded everything the capped overnight , they refuse to come out from their tier 3 keeps/towers if they don’t outnumber you atleast 3 to 1. Fighting agains’t tier3 walls and arrowcarts is boring.
But that’s something the devs want the wvw to be so i guess there’s no point complaining about it.

By nerfing the drop rate in the Crown Pavilion I suspect they have also done the same to WvW.
Funniest part is that no one in their QA team notice things like these. I’m assuming they have one
Expect more shortbow nerfs whenever longbow needs buffs. Babause that’s how you buff a weapon, by nerfing other weapons

The agility training actually increases some pets time to kill targets. I guess that is intented also…
Sugercoating valid issues isn’t helping anyone. I get that there’s lot of misinformation and rangers get more bad rep than they deserve , not here though.

Certain pets don’t hit a moving target by design. Let’s take cats/birds for example. Without more run speed than their targets — without the ranger applying chills / cripples / crowd control — they struggle landing hits. Again, this is by design and meant to push you into a more active playstyle rather than letting the pet do all the work for you.
If you don’t like that playstyle, use dogs/spiders. Their attacks don’t depend on run speed. In fact, after the latest round of balance patches, spiders are very attractive.
Sigh, i appreciate that you try to be positive but coming up with a pet ai that can’t hit and move at the same time is just plain bad , several npcs share the same problem.
Ever run in a circle waiting for a camp supervisor to lose his buff? One can just run in a small circle without ever been hit by him.
Calling it a ‘design choice’ is the ultimate excuse , they needed to make cats/birds hit relatively hard since they couldn’t come up with a decent ai. If they ever manage to upgrade the ai they need to tone down the damage of the pets surely.

The Champions for that achievement are the ones you find in open world from the Balloon Pilots scattered around the maps.
If they can’t fix the dungeon content at least they can add this workaround fix: add a trait or merge into an existing one: “Avenging Ranger” Deal +xx% more damage. You lost your pet.
The White Lion class in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning (rip) had that.
It sucks for ppl that still want to duo with their pets but at least it would compensate a bit.
Not going to happen because
1. If they did that they’d be admitting they have made a mistake with the profession, no self respecting developer ever does that
2. Robert most likely has already come up with new dungeon mechanics to nuke down the pet with various ways
3. It’s too simple and easy solution
4. Dungeon runs last longer when the dungeon mechanics keep targeting the pet without any means to counter it , content lasting longer saves valuable developement hours
New matchup system did nothing apart from repelling some players away from the game. Ratings stay pretty much the same in the long run apart from some guild movement interfering.

That’s all fine and dandy but sitting beside a kitty while it does it’s 3 second animation to get it’s mouth open and roar isn’t exactly practical on many situations.

Process is, take your Ranger press the delete button, don’t worry you will never miss your Ranger, create Guardian character…you will never look back, never after worry about nerfs, everyone in your group will love you, you can even buy the commander tag and people will follow you with confidence in WvW…
I wouldn’t delete my ranger though, just buy extra char slot for the guardian.
Maybe they will fix the ranger pet issues one day? Oh wait, now i’m kidding :P
Well thats also a 1 shot against any zerker character save for wars and necros. Its just easier to do against a ranger because the other classes all have a defensive gimmick:
Guard – how much hp could a guardian guard if a guardian could guard hp??
Mesmer – pick a clone, any clone
Ele – LOOK AT ALL MY BUFFS, JUST LOOK AT THEM!

Please make it comparable to the other two heals , and not by nerfing the other ones xD
I have a compromise that even the devs will prolly agree with. Nerf the shortbow range to compensate if you buff heal as one :P
I always wanted to play melee archer.
Gandar’s first reaction to JS rushing their BL is to bring everyone to AG to cap as much as possible. though worth saying, gandara have been getting the more pressure from JS so far on their BL. Really disappointed in how low the organisation in gandara has become, you guys used to be top notch, now it seems you prefer to third wheel every fight AG takes part of with JS, i really cannot remember a fight with JS that gandara was not poking our sides. JS bl will fall if gandara start pushing it more seriously there at primetime, maybe then they can get rid of that WP in their bl’s hills and have some breathing room.
That always happens when there is one good numbers/coverage server agains’t two with lesser numbers , thats not this matchup or server specific. Guilds aren’t so picky but most randoms will continue to do so and who can blame them. Not many want to fight against arrowcarts on a map where everything is tier3 sieging towers/keeps full of people that don’t come out for hours on end. It’s not fun.

Ranger was put together with bit and pieces from the marksman and warden professions before beta so they were just in a hurry to slap the ranger together since they needed to release the game before Pandaria. Hence the lack of direction, vision , useless mess of a traitlines/traits , overall bugfest and a pet ai from the morning cereal box.
But that doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun with it. Just try not to think about what the profession could have been with some competent development or you will continue to be a sad panda :P
Eagle eye is not a grandmaster trait. So they can take both. But they have to choose between beastmasters signet, which is one way to kitten long range shot, and remorseless, which is another one. Some already say it will account for nothing, as most people run beastmaster’s signet for the damage increase on the signets to affect the ranger as well.
Ah, yes my bad. Eagle eye is a master trait.
Longbow is 1200 range base. Grandmaster trait eagle eye gives 300 extra range. Remorseless trait is also a grandmaster trait so if anything you will be seeing more longbow rangers with 1200 range since most will take remorseless now.
This thread confuses me.
Lot of people wants to see a complete overhaul of pets and their mechanics. It ain’t gonna happen though. Rangers will see a few token fixes here and there and a dev post every 4 months or so to play some time with the frustrated players.
There’s only 2 people working on the class balancing and fixes so they don’t simply have the resources to do much. Better just to play with the hand you are dealt with and try to have fun despite all the shortcoming of the profession or move on to greener pastures(where ever that may be)
Birds are never too sure whether the most critically important course of action is to DPS the bad guy or cast swiftness…
The most important part is the 3 second rooted animation leading to swiftness. Awesome!
Trust me , pretty much everything has been suggested and discussed about pets over and over again and everything has been succesfully ignored for the last 10 months by Anet.
Why can wars and thieves do crazy fire/poison/bomb arrows, but we can’t? Being a ranger, we should have access to that.
Because ranger profession was just an afterthought that was put together from the scraps of marksman and warden professions that were worked on and never made it to the game.
All the fun and useful mechanics were already handed out to other professions so they slapped a buggy pet to the leftover profession and named it ranger by accident instead of beastmaster.

Yeh, after transferring servers there a period when you don’t get the wvw bonuses. Can’t remember if it was from the next wvw reset or do you have to be a full reset in the new server to get the bonuses again.
There was lots of posts about this when transfers were free back in the days. Can’t be bothered to dig the forums for a dev post about it though
I expected nothing. Learned from the past, finally.
Stop asking for buffs for the greatsword. They will just take the Anet way of doing it and break the sword some clever way to make gs more viable.
I managed to get few pictures from behind the scenes.

After watching the Sotg i think i saw a pair of bunny ears in Jonathans aura. He might be Bugs Bunny. All the evidence points to it , although he uses some kind of device to mask his true identity and uses human form during interviews.

Ah, so the culprit might be Major Payne and not Bugs Bunny? I’m still gonna have to go with Bugs Bunny since everyone has watched Looney Tunes one time or another so it’s still the more likely choice between the two.

Shortbow animation fixes , fixing longbow by nerfing the shortbow range, pets that can’t hit targets while moving, instakilled spirits. Pure development awesomeness since 2012.
As it was said in the state of the game shortbow range nerf was due to longbow not being ‘attractive’ got me thinking i had seen similar approach in problem solving somewhere but didn’t quite remember where it was until it hit me.
In the Looney Tunes cartoon Bugs Bunny puts some thumbtacks into Yosemite Sam’s shoes so Sam would forget about his aching tooth since his feets would be hurting much more than his tooth. Only a cartoon would think that breaking something that is working will make the already broken thing seem less so, right?
So my question is : Does Bugs Bunny work with the ranger currently and could he be persuaded to consider tuning eagle eye trait so it affects shortbow also for a range increase if i send him some carrots to his office?

Anet balances the game spvp in mind with little to no consideration to wvw/pve.
Better just to accept it and play with the hand you are dealt with or roll a better profession like the rest of us.
Evasive purity is bugged doesn’t remove blind/poison that it’s supposed to.
