I was out taking a lovely stroll around the borderlands today when I suddenly came upon a lone player from an opposing server. We both stopped fairly close to each other and stared at each other wide eyed, wondering who would be the first to make a move. Then suddenly…it happened…
At least five other players allied with the other popped up out of the blue and stomped me. The Mesmer was simply mesmerizing me until backup arrived.
People are funny. One moment there is some JQ+TC alliance against YB. Then people claim it’s JQ+YB against TC. Or JQ+BG against TC/YB. Many times I’ve seen BG+TC double teaming JQ keeps.
Whatever server currently has the fewest players online is the server that gets “double-teamed”. Although it’s not really double-teaming so much as taking advantage of a weak server. A few hours later when that server is strong they do the exact same thing to whatever server is currently the weakest for that hour.
People need to wake up and realize that these situations are not unique to you and that your server (everyone) does the exact same thing to other servers. All the time. Every single day. Whether its double-teaming, spying, sabotaging siege, or even hacking. Everyone is doing it. Your server isn’t on some mythical pedestal. Everyone (not just the OP, there’s a lot of people) needs to get over it.
People seem to have this notion that T1 still means long queues and giant super-blobs but that just isn’t the case anymore. T1 queues are small or non-existent. The blobs from each server just take turns karma training (I’ve never seen Garrisons flip so easily and often as they do now). There are times when a server has virtually nobody on on almost any map. I don’t think there would be any noticeable different for FA and SoS to face a current T1 server for a week.
Why would anyone waste time hacking tier 9 WvW? That’s like breaking into a bank vault, stealing a penny, then snickering and running away.
Playing this out…
Jade Quarry wins Coverage Wars 2015. Hurray for JQ! They collect their gems and then get the boot to whatever non-full server they can squeeze onto. Since nobody wants to be on empty servers they will pile onto T3-T4 servers as much as possible. Jade Quarry itself will be left completely empty save for a few new players unfortunate enough to click on it. Nobody in their right mind would ever transfer down to JQ because it will be hopelessly empty. Even if the transfer was free JQ would never be able to compete again, meanwhile all other servers settle into slightly different stale matchups for an entire year.
The year passes and Blackgate wins Coverage Wars 2016! BG is then completely destroyed and falls just below JQ. Population adjusts and the next highest pop server just rotates into the guaranteed win slot. Either TC or YB. Not that it matters.
A few years pass of servers rotating into the win slot until GW3 comes out and GW2 dies off completely. Even if the population on the top few servers evens out, there will still ever only be 2-3 servers that are actually able to complete for this grand prize while the other servers just twiddle their thumbs until their number is called for the win slot.
1. With the megaserver you can still play with anyone you want from any server you want in PvE.
2. http://mos.millenium.org/eu/matchups should give you an idea of server strength. They seem to be in a good spot.
3. There’s probably at least a small number of cheaters on every server.
4. None of that stuff should be impacted.
Since the recent changes to how they judge server population, the best guess is that Jade Quarry and all top tier servers are going to remain at full for a long time coming. It will not be possible to transfer to them even if people leave because they are all way past the full metric.
This is all well and good until you get that inevitable dreaded in-game mail.
“Dear [Character],
We regret to inform you that your Progeny’s latest experiment has blown up half of Rata Sum. By the authority of the Arcane Council, we will be deducting 100 gold per day from your accounts until the damages are fully repaid. Failure to supply the 100 gold will result in very…VERY unpleasant consequences."
My dailies are listed for me at the top-right of the screen every day. When I am in PvE, the PvE dailies are listed there. When I hop into WvW, the list displays only WvW dailies. So it already exists. There’s probably just some option that needs to be turned on. It’s automatic for me.
I’m in tier 1 NA and I rarely see a queue on the maps anymore. Even at reset the queues are brief and quite small. I’m hoping some population returns when HoT is finally released (March 2053). Stale match-ups and virtually no new content added to the game for months has probably caused a lot of people to leave and take a break.
I much preferred the old dailies better but I still do these ones. I grab the quickest 3 of the PvE and WvW dailies.
My favorites (fastest) are Daily Miner (I have lots of nodes in my Home instance and I go there anyways), Daily Big Spender (takes seconds), and Daily Vista. Honorable mentions to Daily Mystic Forger, Daily Land Claimer, and Daily Master of Ruins.
You could both level up together in the Edge of the Mists karma train. On occasion there are even other players to kill.
I don’t understand the need for more character storage space. Most of my characters don’t even have 20 slot bags across all slots. What kind of junk is being carried around that is taking up so much space?
All of the loot I find ends up salvaged. Salvaged material can immediately go to the bank. That almost always keeps my bags mostly empty. In the off chance that after salvaging everything that I am still over-burdened, I just pop into WvW for a second to unload on the banks/merchants there and I’m right back to where I left off.
More bank storage space needed, definitely. But character storage space? I can’t imagine needing more.
Even if YB can break the barrier, what’s to stop say JQ and BG from double-teaming YB into the ground to kick them back out.
The golem event might have failed, but the upcoming Asurapult (catapulting Asura over walls) event is going to be great!
3rd Birthday Gifts:
- A level 20 Experience scroll that doesn’t stack with 1st and 2nd year scrolls
- A Birthday Booster
- 5 Black Lion Chests (but no keys)
- A pile of 250 Bloodstone Dust
People have been begging for anet to add GvG to the game for years now. They are only listening to their players. GvG stands for Golem versus Golem right….right?!
All of the Skritt art is created by stuff they stole from other races, especially those noble Asura! Knock it over and steal it back!
WvW for a long time now has been extremely stale and the players very jaded. The matchups are always the same. The time zones in which certain servers take turns dominating PvDing are always the same. It’s already a giant karma train with a few sprinkles of fights mixed in every blue moon.
The golem event is just a silly vacation from the monotony. It’s a week where players can just sit back and relax and not have to pretend that their efforts on the map actually matter. Golems or no golems, everything just flips contantly nowadays anyways. I welcome anything different, even if it’s silly.
The vast vast majority of people I’ve seen in map chat who are discussing the Mystic Forge are discussing it because they are complaining about wasting their money. I can go months between posts of people exclaiming how they got a precursor from it or anything remotely good from it.
You’re not alone in the luck department though. I’ve played since launch and I’ve never gotten a hold of a single item of significant value. I’ve already accepted that I’ll never have a Legendary because I’ll never be able to afford to buy every needed ingredient outright. There are still some nice skins out there to have fun with that aren’t Legendary.
Some people like to counter with the argument that many of the skills in GW1 were either duplicates or useless and never used. But even taking the bad and duplicated skills into account, I still think there was a far greater variety in GW1 that allowed a lot of unique and fun build options that GW2 lacks.
It is obvious that the evil salads have infiltrated the captain’s council. Who knows how many have been corrupted by their influence. The only logical thing to do is to burn away all traces of them. Oh…and build an Asura statue to replace that silly Lion one.
This is just a whine post about how irritating Perma-Stealth thieves are and how they seem designed for the sole purpose of being annoying and nothing else.
They never fight you (maybe they can’t effectively in order to maintain the build, I don’t know) beyond a couple weak shots from afar. They can scout, but then anyone can relay info about where the enemy zerg is located. The one thing they seem to enjoy doing the most is just sneezing in the direction of keeps to keep them contested (which is a dumb mechanic but that’s another topic). They add virtually nothing to the game beyond annoying people. You could say to just ignore them…but a not-really-but-sorta-really-contested waypoint is also annoying.
One example among many billions I’m sure people can tell. A thief is contested a keep just because they are bored I guess. Several players including myself try to run him down but he’s constantly stealthed. You can’t catch him long enough to do any real damage or put any meaningful conditions on him. He just dances around the map effortlessly with infinitely fast recharging initiative. That any class can maintain invisibility indefinitely and leap enormous distances out of range indefinitely just seems a bit too much to me.
I thought I was smart this time though. I placed a stealth trap and sat down on it. Sure enough the thief couldn’t help but run over to annoy me when poof…no stealth for you! Time to di…nevermind, he’s already leaped halfway across the map (the other chasers did not seem to want to coordinate with my trap at all). By the time we caught up with him the stealth trap wore off and he vanished again. You could say we were slow at catching up, but not every class has ridiculous mobility to be able to do so.
My solutions:
1. Increase the stealth trap duration to at least 1 minute. Make it really worthwhile.
2. Stealth skills need longer cooldowns or a higher cost. Anything so that you can’t spend the entire “fight” stealthed.
3. Re-tool the contest mechanic to take away all joy from a perma-stealth. Pew pewing a door causes all nearby npcs to point and laugh instead.
Reported this thread. The OP just admited he wants to “siege trolls” a guild.
Many karma trainers think of anyone who defends (and uses defensive siege) to be a troll who is there to ruin their karma train. The OP may simply be stating their intent on defending and killing opposing zergs…which is the true intent of a competitive environment in the first place.
I feel a 1v1 matchup every week would be incredibly boring. It would take away what suspense and strategy still remain in WvW. All you’d have to do is build a larger blob and run over the opposing blob knowing that there is no third blob that can run amok elsewhere. There would still be an imbalance. One server will have more players and more coverage and that server would still crush the lesser server.
I discovered WvW 2 months ago, and have been in WvW every day since, offtimes and primetimes. I have never experienced any of this lag. Maybe it’s location based?
If you are on Sorrow’s Furnace (going by your signature) then that would explain why you haven’t run into lag. The lag is caused by lots of players (frequently combat), something a tier 8 server doesn’t have to worry about.
Of the three servers in the OP, Fort Aspenwood. It will be dominant in both WvW and EotM.
But as has been stated, EotM is just a karma train. Most people actively avoid fights (and are up-levels who can’t fight anyways) to the point of entire blobs of enemy players running within inches of you and completely ignoring you. While Blue and Red will overall have fewer players, most of the time they are still able to karma train just fine.
Most “true” WvW players do not even consider EotM to be WvW. If you are looking for actual competetive gameplay then you will want to ignore EotM and focus on regular WvW.
And a thank you to those commanders who will bring their zerg when called upon to help defend.
Hi, I’m Rob Lowe, and I joined Jade Quarry.
And I’m Living-In-My-Parents-Basement Rob Lowe, and I joined some other server.
On Jade Quarry, community comes first.
On my server, I built 50 Flame Rams to defend North Camp!
With Jade Quarry you can expect superb leadership.
With my server, I tagged up and jumped off the side of the Citadel!
On Jade Quarry, you can expect epic fights against opposing servers.
On my server, I almost took down that Veteran Guard all by myself!
Don’t be like this me. Get rid of that other server and upgrade to Jade Quarry.
The PvE dailies aren’t worth bothering with usually. I just get my dailies in WvW now as those are easily gained from normal gameplay. PvE dailies are too specific.
Asurapult. Catapults Asura over walls to bypass defenses. Requires a Norn or Charr to activate.
I’ve ran into this a lot on my Mesmer. I’m running along and using Blink for quicker travel and I keep getting hit with the No Valid Path message due to slightly bumpy terrain.
An idea I’ve seen on the forums that I found interesting was awarding greater points per tick for each upgrade a location has.
Turrets only last 5 minutes, therefore you need to check in on them every 5 minutes to respawn them. And at the same time you can loot everything. There is a trait that allows turrets to self-heal which you’ll need if you want to farm while away.
I do some semi-afk turret farming every now and then. I don’t think it’s against any rules anymore since you have to be interacting with the game every 5 minutes and therefore you are still playing (just don’t use a bot to interact for you). I personally use this when I want to do some cleaning or other chores around the house and I can easily peek in at my turrets as needed to respawn them. I can do something very boring (farm) and get something useful done (cleaning) at the same time.
Everything said, this isn’t going to earn you a lot of money no matter where you set up. Even self-repairing turrets are pretty fragile so you’ll have to set them up in either a slow respawn area or a low level zone where the turrets can easily handle whatever comes their way. I’ve used it more to farm for specific materials I needed and not for actual money making. Where you set up depends on what you need.
Sylvari. You can either join Mordremoth or die from Mordremoth!
Anet needs to bring back the Fire Elemental we had at launch where it spawned and then you saw a large blob of 50 dead players and a couple of live ones running for their lives. Good times!
I couldn’t do it. Playing only one class pretty much ignores large chunks of game content and playing styles that I would miss experiencing.
Living World Season 1 was done on such a scale that it will be very difficult for them to bring it back to play again. Many of the events involved 50-100 players at a time.
Purely anecdotal, but earlier today JQ had a queue on their borderlands and yet couldn’t field anyone to defend anything. We had maybe 25-30 active players on the map against hordes of BG and TC. There were no noticeable havoc groups roaming around because nothing was being capped in our favor. So this can only mean there’s a massive influx of afk crafters. Time to move the crafting stations to the ruins so people have to fight to craft their stuff!
The thing with minions is…they used to kinda sorta work. Long ago you used to be able to use them and they’d actually do stuff. Then one day their AI was completely shattered, and it was never fixed. All they have to do is revert back to the kinda-working AI.
I’d love a dropdown selection of every instance of a map like say:
Silverwastes – 1 [FULL]
Silverwastes – 2 [FULL]
Silverwastes – 3
Silverwastes – 4
Silverwastes – 5
…or something like that. That way when we zone into a garbage map (100% guarantee for me when I go to Silverwastes) I can immediately pick a better (but not full) map.
I was always interested in the idea of some bosses casting the Guild Wars 1 version of Spiteful Spirit on players. That would at least force players to spread out a bit and not all stack.
I’ve been matched up against the same opponents for probably a year or more (except for brief tournaments). The problem is if the matchups change, the boredom will not.
You have 3 boredom options:
1. Stale boring matchups as they are now.
2. Impossible boring matchups against overwhelming numbers from higher tier servers.
3. Extremely easy boring matchups against empty lower tier servers.
Final boss is Carpal Tunnel. From mashing the 2 key against Zhaitan.
The color of your server has a random element to it. If your server has the highest rating in your matchup (not current week’s score but overall WvW rating) then there is a good chance you’ll be Green. If you’re the second best, there’s a good chance you’ll be Blue. Finally if you’re the 3rd best, you’ll probably be Red. However, there is some randomness thrown in so that you’re not always the same color. The highest rated server in that matchup will usually be Green, but sometimes not.
Yeah, this has been brought up a million times. Which is fine by me. I wish there were 500 threads a day on this subject until they finally implemented it already. It would be a huge boon to players. Virtually everyone wants and/or would use it. And yet they still haven’t bothered to do it. They should have learned from GW1 how useful it is.
Reducing population limits wouldn’t help. I just had a smallish fight of 25v25 or so. Skills were taking several seconds to respond. Rubberbanding was constant. It looked like everyone was teleporting all over the place. Map chat was flooded with lag complaints. Reduce population caps to what? 10 people? 5 people? 1v1?
I’m guessing there are as many instances of EotM as needed depending on how many players are playing it at the time. When an instance gets full, another one is made. You can leave EotM and then re-enter and hope you end up on a different map. The longer you are out of EotM the better odds you’d probably end up on a different instance.
I personally barely consider EotM to be WvW at all. I refer to the Borderlands and Eternal Battlegrounds as true WvW. EotM is just karma training. Very very few there take it seriously or put any effort into it.
You are always the same color that your server is that week. If you are green, you will always end up on the green side in EotM.
I don’t think it fits the story at the moment. In season one there was a lot of down time between major events and the characters needed a place to relax and process all of the events that had happened.
Season 2 was much more compact with critical world events happening one after another. The characters can’t stop to contemplate their next move when Mordremoth is trying to destroy the world. They have to get out there and get things done as soon as possible.
