Diminishing Returns was never about bots. It is, and always has been about punishing people for not playing the way Anet thinks they should.
Maybe they tuned and created it keeping both thoughts on their minds.
It’s certainly not tuned correctly if you run into DR after 30 minutes and long before you can work your way through the reward track they designed. If the anti-bot crowd wants DR to remain then it needs to be designed in a way that doesn’t harm legitimate players.
Fortunately there are enough easy adventures that you can max all masteries while skipping some of the irritating adventures.
Stay mad. Keep reminding ANET that you’re mad about being forced to do single player content in a game advertised as massively multiplayer.
The problem here is that when players are forced to group together for say a Meta event, you get the opposite people coming in and making posts about how they are being forced to coordinate with massive numbers of players to get personal rewards. Anet can’t win.
It’s already nerfed. I spent a whole 30 minutes there and I was slapped with DR. Sure I got the bonus items but ended up with no xp so I left after the first Giant’s Eye.
1. Doing the map Meta Events earns the most xp for me, specifically Octovine (in Auric) and Dragon’s Stand.
2. You need to run the Dragon’s Stand meta event to complete map exploration there. The event starts every 2 hours and requires a map-wide effort of players. Once the 2 hour window starts, use the LFG tool to taxi into a map that is organized for the meta.
3. The one on the left is a Guild Hall (entered via a guild) and the one on the right is a Raid which can be entered by a Raid Squad (you can enter solo if you have a commander tag).
That’s how I got it last night. I was in Metrica killings random mobs endlessly with no luck when someone suddenly announced that the lab was open and to get there ASAP. I did so and got what I needed. There are actually good people in the game!
I played on the map for a whole 30 minutes. I took a long break and then I immediately ran into DR upon returning. How is any of this a good idea? The wiki lists the map bonus rewards going all the way up to 8000 points (80 gold events). It would be physically impossible to achieve these awards if you can only play 30 minutes.
Earlier today I played Cursed Shore for about half an hour doing various events so that I could pick up the Giant’s Eye you get after 10 events. I spend the next 8 hours on other characters, on other maps, doing other events and even being offline for chunks at a time doing real life things. I come back and return to Cursed Shore (this is after 8 hours being gone!) and end up with DR (Diminishing Returns) on the very first event. 17k for gold. Next event (a different event), 16k. Then 14k. 12k. 10k. Left map.
A system is in place where you need lots of xp to level Mastery Tiers. A system is in place that you need to do multiple events on the same map to earn specific item rewards. And a system is in place to penalize players for doing exactly what the previous two systems ask of them. It’s time to completely remove DR from the game.
The RNG Gods are cruel. Whenever you don’t need something it drops constantly and clogs your inventory. The one time you want it you have to spend weeks grinding in order to see it.
Games are a personal preference. You either enjoy them or you don’t. Play each aspect of the game and figure out which one you enjoy. If you wind up not enjoying any of them then you will need to find a new game to play.
The open areas of the map are for future content. I have no problem with leaving room to grow. Otherwise they’d have to grow the axis of the map every time an expansion came out and doing that would create more open areas for someone to point out. Maps need to have some kind of purpose before they are made. We can’t just have random maps leading all over the place with nothing but random pointless mobs. We’ll visit the desert when we need to confront the crystal dragon. We’ll visit the Far Shiverpeaks when we go after Jormag.
I look at the 3 maps in HoT (the 4th doesn’t count, you can’t even get to DS without completing a meta event on a timer)
The southwestern corner of the map has a portal to Dragon’s Stand open at all times. Going to DS has nothing to do with completing meta events.
If an “Easy Mode” were ever added to a raid, the following conditions should be in place:
1. No achievements can be earned on Easy Mode.
2. Rewards (if any) would be severely reduced to 1/25th that of a normal run.
It would allow players to play out the raids story and learn the mechanics but it wouldn’t allow them to ease their way to AP and shinies.
Heart of Thrones is the next expansion when we go after Jormag. Winter is coming…
dont see why you cant open them then leave em in inventory your not playing anyway
That’s what came to mind. Just open them and leave them in your inventory and sort them when returning to the game. Most every character should have enough space to hold months of login items this way.
Maybe someone will know the chest answer…but I don’t understand something. If you have the 15 seconds or so it takes to log in, spending an extra 2 seconds to click on the login chest shouldn’t make a difference. Or are you talking about something else entirely?
I’ve heard this line several times and at least for me it seems to be random. I’ve gotten it from just standing around doing nothing. Also, the voice is excited when she says it, like something positive is happening. There may be a bug when and how it gets said.
Next people can start asking the bosses to start out enraged and then after the timer runs out you’ll actually be able to see blood boiling. Their attacks will then hit so hard that they delete characters outright.
Cannot get Chak Killer - Master Achievement
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Boysenberry.1869
When I achieved this I went in solo with my Necro. The achievement popped up when there were still about 5 chak remaining. I was fairly slow and methodical. I did notice that a few Chak spawned inside of walls and I was only able to kill them with AoE.
I’m not sure about all of them, but I know for certain Dark Harvest for the reaper for example. You MUST finish silver in Fallen Masks adventure, So i tried it last night.
Mind you…
-You have to wait for the meta to complete. (so, there is no guarantee you’ll even get in the room. Plus you have 15 mins to “try” it and get kicked out.)
- Why is a piece for collection gated behind this? No choice in the matter!
-ALL THIS JUMPING PUZZLE GARBAGE NEED TO STOP.
-I’m not going to spend my time “learning” this when I could be having fun…deciding what I want to do with my time while logged in.
-GET RID OF ADVENTURES OR MAKE THEM OPTIONAL (NOT for masteries, NOT for collections….for fun IF YOU WANT TO DO IT.
Fallen Masks is only closed during the Octovine event (and the prep event). It is open far more than closed and does not require meta completion at all. It isn’t really any kind of puzzle either as you just hop on the mushroom closest to the destination you want to reach. The big problem with Fallen Masks is that it is random. You can be lucky and have a bunch of masks appear right next to you and get a high score or the game can decide to hate you and set all of the masks so far apart that it is virtually impossible to get a decent score.
I’m pretty terrible at these things and I managed Silver after about 4-5 attempts. Even if it isn’t fun, you have to approach these kinds of things with the right attitude. If you want Dark Harvest for example, you need to just do it. Focus on the task, get it done, and then you’ll never have to worry about it again.
Certain WvW achievements have always been easy to snag and continue to be easy. Mists Guard Killer is super easy; just kill 5 NPCs. Caravan just requires killing one Dolyak which is even easier now that more of them spawn. Monuments (formerly ruins) is also easy to find and capture solo. Big Spender is of course always the easiest.
Dailies cap at 3 so anything after that only rewards an underwhelming chest of stuff. For a PvE’er, doing the Daily Gatherer, Daily Vista, and one of the easy WvW dailies is a great quick combo to run.
Servers become full because they have too many players in comparison to other servers. The intent isn’t to prevent people from playing with their friends. But if everyone just keeps piling on the same few servers then those servers would always have a huge competitive advantage over the other servers. The line has to be drawn somewhere. The best solution to play together is for everyone to meet on a lower tier server.
There’s a thread on this topic on this first page here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Dragon-Stand-exploration
They are not in the game yet. Hopefully they will be added with more raid releases (or other content).
I’ve tried using the Black Lion Salvage Kits on greens and I still don’t get anything out of them. I have since stopped since I don’t want to waste my BL kits on them anymore.

Way too many ‘mastery’ points gated behind these mini games- I’ve managed exactly one silver, having tried several and wasting a lot of time on the JP timed one.
No chance of ever getting gold on any of them, so can’t complete H0T masteries.
A few suggestions:
The Salvage Pit in VB is very easy to Gold and probably the easiest in the game. Make sure to show up towards the end of the daytime to ensure that the adventure is unlocked. Also make sure that no one else is running it at the same time (multiple players in there at once can make it difficult).
The Drone Race in TD is also easy once you get Poison Lore and run it a couple of times to learn the track layout. Beetle Feast is also pretty easy to Gold after a couple of runs learning the layout and read the skill descriptions. Flying Circus is also pretty easy but it can be buggy at parts and requires some high levels of gliding to perform well in.

From my understanding there are more mastery points in the game than mastery levels. You can skip quite a few Golds and still max your masteries. But yes, you still need to do probably all of them on Silver and maybe a few on Gold to max your masteries.
They don’t exist yet. Even if you break out of DS the northwest corner (most likely spot for additional areas) is pretty much empty and unpolished. Perhaps they will be entrances to future raid content down the line.
I’m not sure there is a list but we can try to build one here.
1. Auric Basin has a Ley Line that leads to the Golem HP (west side) but it can be bypassed with Lean Gliding or an Experimental Rifle.
2. Auric Basin also has a Ley Line that leads to the Quarry although this can be bypassed with Wallows.
3. Auric Basin has a jumping puzzle that uses Ley Lines near the Golem HP.
4. Tangled Depths has Ley Lines all over in the main chamber and is required for the Longest Glide achievement that passes there.
5. Tangled Depths Nuhoch Lane has a mastery point that requires Ley Lines.
6. Dragon’s Stand near the Southern Barbed Gate has a POI that I think requires Ley Line Gliding.
7. Ley Lines can be useful during the Mouth of Mordremoth fight.
I know there’s a couple more spots in Dragon’s Stand but I can’t rememebr the exact locations.
Is there a way to visually display the guild hall maps on the world map without being in a guild? (or via a Bank Guild without spending gold)
I have characters that have 100% world completion including HoT and just for visual purposes I would like the two guild halls to be displayed on my map for aesthetics.
Guild Wars 2 is my main game. On occasion I will play something else. But when I choose a game I want to devote real attention to it. I want to enjoy one game as much as I can as opposed to kinda have fun in ten games over the same period of time. I’m also at a point where modern games disgust me. Games nowadays are poorly made and uninspiring cash grabs.
Vanilla Guild Wars 2 as people like to call it is old and probably doesn’t attract very many new players anymore. It was probably a good move for Anet to give the base game away for free to new players wanting to buy Heart of Thorns. Players who paid for the base game in the past had a large head start, tons of characters and gear and years of fun memories that the new player will have missed out on. I was never bothered by making Vanilla free.
I find virtually all pre-meta events on even unorganized maps are done 20+ minutes before the meta starts. There’s plenty of time to taxi in players and get organized before the 5 minute countdown starts. It’s just that players hate the map/meta and leave once the pre-events are done or they finish their HPs.
I found a page loaded with tips that you might find useful: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Tips
As far as Mesmer goes, that class probably has a higher learning curve than many. It also can feel under-powered until it reaches max level. It is definitely a fun class though and if you don’t mind a little extra challenge then you should certainly play the class you find the most interesting. Mesmer is great at a lot of things and can find groups in many game modes.
Adventures? annoying mini games more like
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Boysenberry.1869
I run several of the easiest adventures (Drone Race, Salvage Pit, Flying Circus, Beetle Feast) every day for quick xp but other than that I don’t really care for the adventures. There are several that I can’t even get Bronze on. And even some of the easy ones are buggy. I could gold Flying Circus every single time…except that there’s an updraft that bugs out frequently wasting tons of time and the final circle bugs out on me all the time wasting precious seconds that usually result in Silver.
Most of the adventures need to be completely re-balanced and have their bugs fixed.
The solution is for Anet to up the rewards and modify the difficulty so that it is on par with the other 3 Meta events. It is silly that killing an Elder Dragon is extremely easy and yet killing some large Chak is very difficult. Maybe the Chak should strive for world domination. They are obviously the most powerful species in the world.
Hello,
I am a semi-casual player looking for a guild to join with a home on Jade Quarry (the bestest server ever!).
What I’m looking for in a guild: (with some degree of flexibility)
- Medium to Large size guild
- Strong and active leadership
- Friendly and knowledgeable players
- Guild activity involving: PvE, World Bosses, Dungeons/Fractals and WvW (I don’t PvP)
- A guild where players party up and help each other
- A guild without restrictions
About Me:
- I’m semi-casual. I play almost daily but I’m far from being “hardcore”.
- I’ve been playing since launch and been playing in the Guild Wars universe since shortly after the launch of GW1.
- I have level 80s of all classes although some are very dusty and under-geared.
- The Necromancer is my favorite class. Asura is my favorite race. I do have at least one of every race though.
- Skill-wise I would rate myself as average. Once I know the content I can run over most PvE stuff but something like the new raids would probably make me go splat fairly quickly.
- I participate in WvW infrequently but I enjoy it. I am really bad at it though and will lose virtually all 1v1 fights (I can’t PvP in any game).
That’s the thing, you don’t need to know anything to display a tag. The tag is only meant to show activity. Pretty much every event is just following the event icon and killing monsters or gathering items surrounded by monsters. Tag up, get the map going in a positive direction and then once there are people being active you can think about passing that tag on to a more qualified member of your group.
Meta events are a significant aspect of the new HoT maps. They are the primary source of fun, experience, and loot. However, people often get frustrated that they cannot find a map willing to do the Meta or they cannot find a map to taxi into to do the Meta.
Instead of giving up or getting upset, players need to take control of the problem. Tag Up! You don’t even have to be any good at what you want to do. Just Tag Up! Other players are significantly more likely to help out with the Meta event and taxi others into YOUR map if they see tags on the map. Tags aren’t there to represent leadership and skill. They are there to represent activity. The more people that take control and Tag Up, the more involved everyone will be.
Tonight I wanted to do the Dragon’s Stand meta. Unfortunately I just wasn’t able to click those LFG posts fast enough before they poofed (under a half second!). The map I was in had zero tags and no chatter and I was thinking about just logging off for the night. Then another player spoke up and asked if anyone wanted to run the Meta. Then pop…a Blue Tag appeared on the map. Someone took control and Tagged Up. I don’t like doing it…but I finally decided to also Tag Up. Then more tags appeared. Moments later everyone was organizing and calling for taxis. Within 5 minutes we were on our way.
You don’t have to be some grand leader to Tag Up. I was terrible. But we succeeded nonetheless (thankfully DS is super easy!). To those courageous folk that take control and Tag Up…thank you!
You should definitely look into that Dulfy timer. Arrive when the map first opens and taxi into an organized map via the LFG feature. After that it is pretty much a guaranteed success. I have never seen a map fail. I usually run Dragon’s Stand late at night and I’m always able to find a full map even at those off hours. My only issue is the silly timer after the event ends to run and explore everything before the map forces you out.
Honestly if I was you guys I would buy the heavy supply bags that you could I own 80% of that market probably more 1300+ Heavy Supply Bags being sold. And I intend on raising the prices higher next month more then likely
5 minutes after someone buys a large quantity of bags…new patch changes the requirement to something else! Bag price drops to 2s.
I think the Blighting Trees that are scattered about in HoT are the other “Pale Trees”. One such tree is in the Northwestern portion of Verdant Brink. However, I never found a single reference to Malyck in HoT.
The mega-server system just needs to stop opening so many maps. Unless a map is almost full, do not open a new one. The way it is now it seems like there is 1-2 maps that get filled (via taxi) to run a meta and then 10 empty maps. In this scenario there should only be 3 maps open tops.
There is something that players can do to help though. TAG UP! People like to say that popping a tag is meaningless and that the tag owner might not even know what they are doing. But just having tags on the map makes people think it is organized so that they will actually participate. If someone is in a map that has no tags they will just leave or AFK even if the map has a lot of players that want to run the meta.
I am not sure why ANET and their developers keep focusing on Hardcore players and their demands for more difficult content and ignore casual players.
As a casual player myself I find this quote to be way off. The vast vast majority of the game is casual and has been simplified so much that you rarely need to use more than auto-attack. The new HoT maps are some the first content that kinda falls into the intermediate category and the new raids may ultimately fall into hardcore (I say may because people might uncover easy/fast ways to complete them).
Even HoT maps become fairly easy once you get a few masteries under your belt and understand what is going on. I personally just run past the vast majority of the mobs because I find them irritating or too slow to fight and that works just fine. This game is extremely casual friendly. There’s no need to complain about one hardcore element.
Adventures - Once you're in, let you stay in
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I’d like all the adventures to just always remain open. But as they are now, it’s fairly simple to schedule around them. All of the maps run on a timer so you can plan on only going to certain adventures when the time is right. By the later half of Verdant Brink Day just about everything should be open (some are open all Day with no restrictions). Time Auric challenges to not conflict with Octovine. Show up for the restricted Tangled Depths map starting about halfway through the Outposts cycle. Dulfy has a timer that times everything for you.
There has been a million threads made on this topic…and I hope they keep coming until Anet finally desides to implement this idea. For this game specifically, I have a hard time remembering my builds. It’s just something about the weird little icon mechanics that throws me off. Give me a build saver!
One of the main reasons why we haven’t seen Season 1 reappear is that is was designed for a large number of players. People often complained that there were never new maps to play on but back in the day there was a new map (even if it was only temporary…and smaller) every 2 weeks! It was a shame that all of this content would be made, run for 2 weeks, and then poof to never be heard from again.
With the new Raid Squad setup it might make it easier to bring back Season 1. Most of Season 1 would be able to work just fine for a party of 10 (actually, many aspects of it could be solo’d). The two main issues would be the Twisted Marionette and the Lion’s Arch finale.
For the Marionette…close some lanes or have them NPC only (and not fight the boss) and adjust the time accordingly. For the Lion’s Arch finale two fights come to mind. The Assault Knight battle can be scaled for 3-4 players and the party of 10 can split up among them. And the battle aboard the Breachmaker can certainly be scaled to 10. That was a fantastic fight.
For anyone wanting a T4 map (Night) they need to be sure to arrive to Verdant Brink several minutes early and taxi into a map doing T4. Then use the end of day to organize and get ready. If most players on the map are participating in getting T4 it is pretty easy.
A big thing some players don’t realize is that losing a few Rally Points doesn’t fail your T4 attempt. You can go back and reclaim them. Also if after the 5 bosses are killed and you still aren’t T4, you can still run supply, run escorts, and kill champ events to add to the Tier bar. Never give up until the timer hits zero! I’ve seen the Security Bar read level 3 still and the map ticked to Tier 4. I’ve seen the bosses killed and still have another half a tier to grind out and we still made it. Even a semi-chaotic map can get Tier 4 with a little extra oomph from a few dedicated players.
And then the group decides to leave a child Asura all alone deep underground in a region surrounded by Chak and Mordrem. She is at most two feet tall, can barely walk, and has no golem to protect her. What can go wrong?
If the endgame of Guild Wars 2 is to ultimately destroy all Elder Dragons…I don’t see how the Pact could survive. The Pact surely lost a fair number of members during their assault on Orr. Then the Pact was devastated during their fight against Mordremoth. Add in that the surviving Sylvari members might never be trusted again…I just don’t think the Pact will ever be able to replenish its ranks enough to take on any more Elder Dragons. These dragons are killing way too many people and fighting them with armies just isn’t going to work anymore.
Mouth of Mordremoth fight should be harder

I think the player community already has this map down to auto-pilot. Every map I have attempted DS with has succeeded, and quite easily. It’s not a matter of if, but how quickly he can be burned down so that players can start their pod run. I don’t think adding more health to the mouth is the answer, but at least add in some trash mobs to keep the players engaged in more fighting.
I never really gave this much thought until I first heard of this issue yesterday. I typically bounce around between the HoT maps and I rarely ever run the same Meta twice in a row so I might have been able to avoid significant DR. But thinking back I do recall earning the usual 18k xp and then sometimes for reasons (at the time) I didn’t understand I would receive maybe 14k or less. I’ve even simply not received event credit a couple of times. At the time I thought maybe I somehow didn’t participate enough but I was fairly confident I did the usual needed for Gold but instead got nothing.
Given that you only get to choose from 4 maps and the only way to progress is with xp…DR needs to go away.
