Mordremoth showed up and dropped 4 guild catapults. I called for help and the only response I got was “Fort Marriner is paper, let it fall”. I went to grab some supply to build an arrow cart to defend the place…but someone had taken it all to build a trebuchet atop Troll’s End. So there you have it. Fort Marriner fell. I hope everyone is happy!

I think virtually everyone would very much appreciate a trait/build saving feature. It’s amazing that they still have not implemented this feature into the game yet. And to those that point to how long it took to save builds in GW1, I respond by saying they should have learned how useful it was and added it into GW2 right from the start.

I have one invisible bag for personal items and then everything else clutters the rest. When I get full, I hop into WvW, sell/salvage/bank everything, and then hop out and continue where I left off. I will also restock gathering tools/salvage kits in WvW if needed.

What is player character's "power level"?

Boysenberry.1869

I feel like we are a tier above Destiny’s Edge given our clout and the many foes we’ve defeated now. We were already on the rise during the racial part of the personal story. We beat up the baddies and saved the day in each of the dungeons. We’re a commander of the pact against Zhaitan (although, the actual slaying part is iffy since we just stand there shooting a cannon at an immobile target). We killed Scarlet Briar. We have fought many powerful dragon minions and champions including the latest dragon champion whom we have to finally defeat, almost single-handedly. We have free reign to tackle whatever is the most pressing concern for Tyria as we see fit. Everyone else, including Trahearne waits for us to help them make decisions.

I don’t feel we are on the level of the GW1 heroes yet though. They saved Tyria by beating the Lich and his titans. They saved Cantha by beating Shiro and his monsters. They saved the entire world by defeating the Lich and Shiro together…and then slaying an actual God (sure it was chained but still…a God). Then to ice the cake they too defeated an Elder Dragon champion. And right under the nose of Primordus himself. Literally. Plus the billion other side quests and missions that saved lots of people.

ANET: Plz put an end to Skill Spamming

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Boysenberry.1869

Boysenberry.1869

It seems as though something else is going on here. Mobs of players don’t just appear out of nowhere, target a random person, and spam all of their skills to clutter their screen. And then repeat this process often enough to disrupt gameplay time periods spanning days, weeks or more. At least, I’ve never seen this happen since GW2 launch. Sure a player here and there will be running around with silly toys and what not but they don’t last long and move on to something else. The vast majority of people in towns are using the merchant, talking, or are AFK. A skill spammer would get bored very quickly with these kinds of people.

Somewhere along the way there must have been an argument or confrontation with these skill spammers that are causing them to target the OP. This sounds like a problem that needs to be resolved with the parties in question or behavior changed to prevent future parties from wanting to participate in some kind of silly skill spamming.

I’m sure having a screen full of special effects constantly is very irritating, but I also think this situation could have been avoided to begin with. I do however agree that an option to remove special effects should be added anyways, for those people with lower performance computers who want to participate in a zerg.

Unpopular Opinions

Boysenberry.1869

I’ll play!

Let’s play a game of unpopular opinions.
-Season 1 was much better than Season 2

I really do think Season 1 was better because:
1. It was significantly longer.
2. The added length led to many more skins (too many backpacks though), items, and achievement points.
3. The Achievements were more varied, more extensive, and more interactive.
4. With much of the content on the open world, many of the updates had a more epic feel to them like the Marionette, the finale weeks in Lion’s Arch, the Toxic Tower, and even Scarlet’s hourly invasions.

Season 2 just seems like a continuation of the personal story in that everything is designed to be quietly and easily solo’d. I feel the story of season 2 has been fine, it’s just been kind of bland with most of it being instanced.

We’re going to solve population imbalance by allowing servers stuffed with fair-weather players who transfer for easy wins to beat up on and close down lesser populated servers that are only less populated because of the bloated blob servers like…er…Blackgate. Not surprising which server came up with the idea.

[Balance in WvW] Who likes 1 vs Zerg?

in WvW

Posted by: Boysenberry.1869

Boysenberry.1869

I see some problems with this. One, what decides which players get the boot to the Karma-Train map? Is it the duration of time spent on the map? If so, I see lots of people who afk by crafting stations seemingly indefinitely. Oops, our commander was just booted out to EotM, good luck now.

Also, why penalize players for wanting to play WvW but being unable to because the other server(s) just don’t feel like it at the moment. If one side keeps losing, it would be to their advantage to just empty the map forcing the opposing sides down to 10 and then refilling it to stop all big attacks.

There are also lots of map hoppers. The amount of players may be even globally but they are just spread out amongst other maps. If an opposing zerg shows up they can hop back to a map to defend the place and then hop away again. It may still be balanced but in a way Anet wouldn’t be able to calculate.

One last thing, balancing the maps would take away the thrill of being able to defeat a group twice your size. I had the luxury of doing this a few nights ago and it was the most fun I’ve had in a long time.

I’ll never need anymore of it and it just keeps coming. It seems like everything I salvage turns into Silk. Who is so short on silk that they are spending 2 silver apiece and how are they short when it is so abundant?

I think the bigger problem is the fact players need to be rewarded to show kindness. If I can rez someone without getting myself killed, I will. I do it because it’s the decent thing to do and I will continue to do it on that reason alone. I understand the idea behind the OP and I sympathize, but it’s the people behind the computer screens that need fixing, and that is something Anet can’t fix.

Thieves!

in WvW

Posted by: Boysenberry.1869

Boysenberry.1869

There is a ritual that I undergo almost daily now. My little innocent Asura Necromancer enters WvW with the intent of lending a hand to the good people of my server. Upon entering a map I begin to make my way over to the blue dorito. Then it happens. A dark cloud suddenly builds overhead. Lightning flashes. A hideous fiend suddenly appears out of nowhere. His eyes are red, blood drips from his fangs and daggers. I want to run, but it’s too late for me. My little Asura is torn to shreds, struck down by an evil Thief yet again.

I’m bad at the game. I’ll always be bad at the game, but I can still have fun. I have slow reflexes. Even if I know I should be taking action, I just…can’t…do…it…fast…enough. This will always be the case. I used to always avoid WvW but lately I’ve been running around in it quite a bit (mostly on a Necromancer) and I’ve managed to figure out how to survive fairly well amongst the comfort of a large zerg. But when I find myself alone…there’s always a Thief ready to step out of the shadows and strike me down.

1. Is there a way for a bad player like me (on my Necro) to at least be really annoying for them to kill? I know I’m going to lose regardless, but if I can at least take some of their sanity with me, then small victories!

2. When I find myself in small fights such as 3 v 3 or something, I don’t know what to do against Thieves. If they take any kind of moderate damage, they immediately vanish only to reappear with full health and renewed bloodlust. I’ve seen whole swarms of players chase after a single Thief for long distances. They move fast, they are nearly perma-invisible, and they strike soooo quickly and then poof, gone.

I’m from JQ and just last week on the last couple of days we “gave up” and pretty much phoned it in. I saw JQ drop to +55 at one point and maybe even lower. When you know you’ve been beat, rest up, enjoy some real life, and come back the next week ready to go again. There’s no need to rub it in, or insult other servers because they recognize the obvious. It happens to everyone.

WvW for map completion is just pure griefing.

If you are being killed on your way to a vista, bring some friends/guildies. They probably have a character that could do some mapping as well. And if you’re on a low tier, running around with a group will make you a fairly powerful force to avoid. Also, WvW mapping is best done in a 3 steps, mapping each color’s main areas at a time.

WvW Map Completion. (Jade Quarry)

in WvW

Posted by: Boysenberry.1869

Boysenberry.1869

Map completion in WvW often ends up being a 3 step process. Map all of the territories commonly held by Red, Blue, and Green when your server is that color. Patience makes the process very easy and much less frustrating. But if you can’t be patient, learn the best times to get on. For Jade Quarry, I believe their late night/early morning (NA time) is very dominant. They will often hold lots of territory that you otherwise would have trouble mapping. Even still, it is very difficult to grab the high value areas like a Garrison. Sometimes the only way is to just wait until the colors change.

My biggest problem was that even next day, most of the events were either bugged and didn’t work or were already completed. For example, the ghost machine builder still didn’t work (which actually has been broken since before this update) and the quest did not advance, thus meaning the story could not advance. I had to just give up and log off. Later I logged back on and found all of the crown events complete so I could just grab everything I needed.

They blow up and I take no damage.

Pre-reset Garrison flips

in WvW

Posted by: Boysenberry.1869

Boysenberry.1869

Jade Quarry took Blackgate’s Garrison Saturday night I believe (although it was short lived). I know because I used that narrow window to run in there to grab it on a character that still needed it. It happens, but the Garrison’s are stubborn little places that just don’t like falling. Right before and after reset might be good times. While the colors do follow a pattern, there is a small random element to them. JQ could get another color even if it wins, it’s just more likely if they go on vacation for a week. Overall, waiting for a color change is a lot easier but a lot longer.

When you get killed...

Boysenberry.1869

I hate WvW, but apparently it’s a necessary evil if one is to finish world map completion. I kinda knew that, but having never been to WvW prior to this, I didn’t realize what a PITA it would be.

The easy way to map WvW is to do it in 3 stages.

Say you’re Green this week. Run around and grab all of the territories normally occupied by Green (and any other nearby lands that Green might currently control). You can get most if not all of Green’s borderlands. Grab territory near your starting point in the other two borderlands. Then grab your corner of the Eternal Battlegrounds (keep an eye out for when your server controls Stonemist and hop into WvW to grab it). Then leave WvW.

It may takes a week or many weeks, but eventually you’ll be another color. Repeat the process with that color’s lands. Then finally repeat it again once you’re the third color.

Ways to speed up mapping include waiting until your server has a large WvW advantage and following a zerg that is running around capturing anything it can get its hands on.

Ten Things I'd Like to See

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Boysenberry.1869

Boysenberry.1869

Ten things I’d like to see added to the game (who knows, maybe some of them will wind up in the features patch). Most have probably been suggested a billion times, maybe a couple haven’t.

1. A Skin NPC. This NPC would allow players to make a copy of any skin they currently possess for a fee (either a flat fee or a fee based on the rarity of the skin). All duplicated skins would be account bound to allow players to enjoy the skin they worked for across all their characters but it would not be a means of making a profit. Legendary items would not be allowed for duplication.

2. All store bought skins would appear in the achievement rewards section allowing players to reuse them as much as they want. Perhaps increase the gem price on skins to make up for the increased usage.

3. Player Housing and/or Guild Halls. This explains itself.

4. New Daily. Daily Vanquish. Kill 100 foes on one specific map (preferably one hardly visited, maps vary each day).

5. Labeled Overflows. Add a drop-down box on the map or somewhere that allows players to select between existing instances of the map they are currently. This box would contain that map’s Home Server map as well as every overflow that exists across the entire game. Players can then hop between “Queensdale: Jade Quarry” and “Queelsdale: Overflow 2” at will. As always though, if a map is full, it’s full.

6. Living Fractals. This would be a series of Fractal-Like instances that replay parts of past Living Stories for players who missed them. When possible, it would also allow players to pick up missed achievements (but no special loot).

7. Saving and Loading builds at the press of a button!

8. Music Editor. Decide which of the game’s music plays in which areas/circumstances. Also allow players to import their own (player-side only, not actually uploading it) and play their own music within the game as they see fit.

9. Create a new Gem Store item that gives players a token so that whenever they use an Asura Gate from a major city they can automatically select the destination gate of their choosing, not the preset gate.

10. Allow players to be able to change skills on cool-down outside of combat (or at least in a city).

As a Jade Quarry resident, I just wanted to take a moment to say Thank You to Blackgate! If it wasn’t for all of your boasting and nicknames like Beastgate, more people might be cluttering my server instead. While I get sent to overflows all the time, for most events I can usually make my way back onto the Main server after awhile.

So attention all potential guesters…Blackgate is 100% successful at all events, always, forever and ever. Jade Quarry fails all events, even in Queensdale. I wholly recommend guesting to Blackgate for all of your living story needs!

(On a more serious note…this really is an annoying issue. Native server residents should get priority over guesters.)

Well…let’s see…Lion’s Arch was attacked by crazy lettuce.

As far as I know (I rarely bother with it) the Mystic Toilet still involves flushing all your hard-earned gold down the drain.

No new (permanent) zones have been added. The only new activities have been the two week living story features that come and then poof, gone.

Ascended gear expanded from jewelry to weapons and armor too. Crafting levels went up to 500 on most disciplines to allow Ascended crafting.

WvW had some work done on it. A new Edge of the Mists map was added for players to beat each other up on while they wait for a spot on a borderland. Borderland maps were also modified a bit.

The same dungeons pretty much (one new path in Twilight Arbor). Maybe a couple more Fractals tossed in. Most new fancy skins introduced have been Gem Store only.

Jade Quarry has pretty much stopped bothering with the 6 minute achievement the past couple of days. And you can map right into JQ even on prime-time hours now. Maybe it will pick up a bit over the weekend (probably not). Your best bet is to try to get into a TTS group.

You can AFK without a bot by just wiggling your character every 20 minutes or so.
On the other hand, you can use a bot to wiggle the character for you.

It would be difficult if not impossible for a player to tell the difference and properly report it.
