Bread.7516

Why is there an insane amount of defiant stacks on mobs?

I can get why defiant exists….but another reason this game is all about dps os that when you meet bosses with

25

Stacks of defiant

It just says “no CC here ty”.

And most bosses have that much.

What about using a reasonable number like 5?
Its not that having boss stun for 2-3 seconds wasting 5 skills is so game breaking.

I would agree here, interrupting a boss is completely useless with so much defiant stacks. So much effort and cooldowns on skills just to avoid 1 devastating attack or have a 2-3 second disable.

We would all rather have vigor or eat some endurance food to dodge more and save our utility skills for something else that contributes more to the group. Right now CC is only good for regular mobs.

unrelated: if i see an object flying towards me it should be classified as a projectile, more intuitive gameplay please.

Reasons for canach/null confusion

Bread.7516

I think the confusion people are having on this fight is because it isn’t very intuitive.

Mines as we generally know it – it doesn’t pick targets as it is neutral, which means meaning anyone who steps on it should go boom.

disarming a mine in our heads means it disarms for everyone; friend or foe.

So everyone doing the dungeon the first time would be confused for a bit.

Bread.7516

So i got the game about a week ago, got to level 80 fairly quick, 5-6 days. Ran about 10 + dungeons so far. The first dungeon i ran, i was a bit confused….everyone was skipping trash mobs and had no idea, no sense of direction etc…i was being left behind basically. So i figured “hey i’ll just learn and try to keep up next time”, so i did(why even include trash mobs then?).

I’m a Warrior btw

I was also confused about the whole dodging thingy, i didn’t know when to dodge or understood the timing of it. Yea “see the red circle, GTFO”, pretty much 80% of the time i was dodging mechanics and using my rifle…but i wanted to play a melee class….

I’m kind of discourage to do anymore dungeons now. This probably one of the worst dungeons i ran and i’ve been playing MMORPG’s for 10 year plus. It’s not even the difficulty factor more of the mechanics/combat function and design.

I do love the game/world/questing etc…but the dungeons are horrific

I don’t think you like action games.

Axe/Mace Axe/Warhorn with 1 warriors running Axe/Mace Longbow is the best.

Before the first two turrets, slave driver, and on the effigy, the longbow warrior puts down F1 which makes a fire aura, blast finishers inside this fire aura grant everyone 3 might for 20 seconds, warhorn 5 is a blast finisher, and banners are a blast finisher.

3x Warhorn blast finishers = 9 might
4x Battlestandard blast finishers = 12 might
1x banner of disc = 3 might
1x banner of str = 3 might

total = 27 (25) might for 20 seconds, more then enough time for a full fight.

No sig of inspiration required.

Also, greatswords suck.

Also also, if you have a thief he just uses cluster bomb.

umm what?
100b burst including final hit > axe autoattack
in corner WW does great damage for little amt of time
out of a corner blade trail is also good considering activation time (2x hit)
axe auto attack > GS auto attack

fasthands trait swap

4 warbanners just for just a blast finish? what about the 3-4 might stacks it grants for the whole duration? it’s a waste of might stacks to go over 25. 3 might from each FGJ which should be 100% up time.

slavedriver should die <10secs / 1 TW in a speedrun. 4 warbanners or even 3 is inefficient if you don’t get to use it on effigy

If you’re relying on blast finishers, why not just pick up a banner and use 5>cancel (saves time) for another stack

people who plan to swap:
- tell party you’re swapping AFTER boss fight
- someone watches cutscene at end to have ample time (usually dungeon starter)
- everyone is happy, no big deal, no drama

he swaps a little before boss dies, not a big deal. should be fine

Guys I know its not much, but lets be realistic. We get so much content for this game. We’ve had 2 living story updates in the period of a month. Lets just be content with this for now lol. F&F was obviously more exciting but that also was the end of a 4 month living story arc.

Absolutely not. I will not “be realistic”. With Flame and Frost showing us they CAN make good dungeons, this entire thing is downright atroscious. There is NO defense for their kittenty content update. I will not just sit down and say “oh okay well they tried their best”. They didn’t. This was terrible and anybody defending it is outright wrong.

Thief dagger storm also never reflected the elemental projectiles. Some MIGHT get reflected but they usually tend to bash through your spin and damage/root you. Probably wouldn’t happen if you were able to sit still but you need to be moving on that map. Same thing happens with Lupi but if you stand still while spinning, you will reflect.

I’m not familiar with thief as i rarely play mine, please explain further.

do you mean reflect only activates if you dont move? and when you move there will be no reflect?

i bet if we play together you can t evade 50% of his Attacks

Its visible as long as you don t have all those particle effects covering the shaman.

i.e. visible 1VS1….invisible 5VS1

not to mention the bug of the istant 1shot after shield :/ that can easily wipe a group

You bet wrong.

Very visible, with all those particle effects.

I agree with less particle effects and damage numbers especially all the crits cover up the enemy, there should be an option with VERY low profile effects, it’s annoying.

But my main problem in this fight is the obnoxiously huge enemy HP bar and portrait. Maybe because of the angle i normally play with. Either introduce back the custom UI in gw1 or give us the option to disable the HP bar. For now what i do is tilt the camera sideways just so i see what the shaman is doing.

It’s a fight that overly relies on certain class mechanics not available to everyone. If you are in a PUG group that doesn’t have a member of X profession (or doesn’t know what they are doing), it can be impossible to carry depending on your class more than your ability. And like I said earlier, the majority of the problem is with the poor choice of adds, otherwise it’s just another fractal encounter that zones melee.

Anyways it can’t be solely written off as ‘l2p’.

The challenge only starts when adds appear. The champ shaman alone is not a problem.

This is not a representation of what each class is fully capable of
These are merely a few reflects/projectile blocks that i can think off the top of my head

mesmer
temporal curtain + warden’s feedback trait
phantasmal warden + warden’s feedback trit
feedback

guardian
wall of reflect
shield of avenger
sanctuary
shield of absorb

elementalist
magnetic aura + trait powerful auras (party reflect)
swirling winds (it might be broken for this fight, shall confirm)
magnetic wave

thief
daggerstorm
smoke screen

ranger
whirling defense

==========
Other skills that help manage adds

race: sylvari
Root racial elite

engineer
Lots of AoE immobilize and cripple

ranger
barrage
other aoe immobilize and conditions

Warrior
longbow F1 > 3 > 2 > optional: banner down > pickup and 5 (for might )
warbanner : so many butts saved by warbanner

Necro
tons of bleeds
epidemic

too lazy to think of more

warrior shield 5 is only for burst protection/dodge alternative, better use warhorn 5 (also a blast) for damage mitigation

Aside from “reflects” team has to AoE bomb the grubs FAST

so unless you plan on rolling with a team composition of 5 warriors then I dont think there’s a problem here

Bread.7516

I do not think you all are getting my point. I understand that rage quitting happens but when it happens like every single day like 3 or 4 times a day, its a little bit more than just a problem. Especially when your whole team quits. Did you even hear what I said about the people leaving the guilds because they hated the new AC. They all went to other games, and that is why I went with some of them to other games. I like challenges but when you have to depend on 4 random people or even people you invite it has nothing to do with just a single person defeating a dungeon, its the whole group that has to be good enough to succeed. If you play AC dungeon and the team gives up before you can finish for 7 days straight than there is something seriously wrong with this dungeon. That is why I think they should lock you in the dungeon so you have no alternative but to finikitten. If this was a dungeon that can be done with just one person, I would have mastered it. I know the dungeon like the back of hand, if there was 4 of me playing the game I would easily succeed because I am really good at mmo’s. Its the fact that my team members can not play good and rage quit 7 days straight that makes AC suck and is why I left. PVE is so boring in Guild wars 2 , the only thing that kept me playing this game was the old AC, now its just plain boring. My blood does boil when playing this game but that is because its so much of waste of time.

I think the issue here is that this is just not your type of game.

If we were to speak opinions then mine would be that AC is fine and id rather not let it (or any gw2 content) be turned into your type of game.

It’s not only CoF 1 but FotM 30+ too. Here you have the “2 Guard minimum rule” if you want to get past it as fast as possible, and of course you take as few glass cannons with you as possible.
But you are right, you can do every dungeon that is not about either max dps or max survivability with every combination of professions.

Parties that require 2 guards at frac 38 are probably terrible; expect around 2 terrible players in the party.

Yeah we are so terrible to want a faster run where we can melee everything (much higher dps than range) and get it done faster than your average group of “anything goes” carebears who think class does not matter.

With 2 guardians you can safely melee bloomhunger, mossman, all 4 mobs in the sad harpy fractal champ room […] things that take like 3 times as long in the average pug. I’ve never seen a pug go full melee in the ettin room until after the first three died. We start and end with full melee with a decent group that has two guard.
Of course 2 guard doesn’t mean 2 tanks, you want at least one of the two to go full berserker. You mostly want the guard for the hammer, reflection and aegis. Blind in some frac like cliffside.

It’s parties that do not require 2 guard that are terrible because they don’t really get this game.

I dont PUG

We each have alt guards, mes, wars (and more). we rotate classes whenever we feel like it.

1 guard, 1 mes, 3 war. we melee all of what you mentioned, tell your mesmer to trait properly.

“It’s parties that do not require 2 guard that are terrible because they don’t really get this game.”

So yeah, i guess i know the game more than you since we pump more DPS while maintaining melee range.

Every pug group I played after the new update to AC was full of rage quitters. I like how a lot people say this person is crying about this and that. Seriously when someone states something they do not like , it does not mean they are crying or whatever smart remark, they are just stating what they do not like. I do not like AC dungeon, and a lot of people in my guild that I used to play it with do not like the dungeon. In fact since the new update to the AC dungeon, 20 to 30 people in my guilds have quit cause now all there teams are filled with rage quitters. It was 7 days straight of people rage quitting on my team that made me quit the game. I really hope they fix the AC dungeon so that pug groups do not have so many rage quitters. I think they should lock you in the dungeon so that you can not leave the dungeon so have to do the dungeon and they do not waste my time. People that say this dungeon is easy probably has a group of people that are very skilled in this dungeon because its far from easy with a team of random people that are either lower than 80 or never been in a dungeon before, or just are not good at dungeons. When your whole team rage quits like 3 times in a row in day that is like the biggest let down and makes it totally just a waste of time.

Well, i find that most people who have problems with AC are people who exclusively or most of the time play traditional mmorpgs.

GW2 put action game elements into it, and imo it is more enjoyable and active this way.

If you’re a gamer that plays a variety of games over the years (even casual) adapting shouldn’t be a problem, otherwise you need to adjust and break the mold.

Think Dark Souls or Monster hunter (or any action game of your choice) then it should not be too much trouble.

See the challenge > fail > find a solution.

reason i ask is because this game has action elements to it and on high level fractals, dodging is VERY important.

he did the hammer leap slam, i was mid dodge, i got hit.

I’m not arguing against speed runs. Efficiency, knowing exactly how to complete the run as fast as possible, are legitimate ways to enjoy a dungeon experience be it for loot or whatever.

The problem is as XelNigma is saying, there isn’t really an alternative to doing that. The way the trash is designed encourages every pull to be either LoS’d or skipped. Not to mention the rewards you get for doing so, as you say, people don’t do completion runs out of the virtue in their hearts.

In most games the trash is less an ordeal, not everyone has to be a speed runner regardless of preference. So if the current design was intentional, wouldn’t it actually be better just to give access to the boss WPs by default? Because as a speed runner, I don’t think anyone actually enjoys running past mobs they’ll never fight. There is also the matter of where you draw the line in an MMO, like the CM mountain climbing skip. I’d say that goes a little too far beyond speed running into a loot bandwagon.

Indeed I know Mario has speed runs, I’ve watched siglemic break the world record! But Mario isn’t an MMO, and you’ve got a choice.

To set the context, basically it’s not being “right” or “wrong” it’s an issue of variety/alternate ways. Though i think the OP labeled using LoS tactics as “wrong” in original post.

In regards to alternatives, you believe that there should be ways on tackling mobs that can be just as efficient as current strategies. I completely agree to this but of course it will involve a lot of dev costs.

In regards to skipping mobs, I remember a post where dev said it’s easy to force players to fight mobs though chooses not to do so with every trash mob because that’s just not right. (forgot his justification and don’t quote me on this).

Overall youre looking at creative content and solutions to current existing problems of game mechanics which are difficult to do because creative ideas don’t just simply manifest at will, I believe anet has been trying to improve the game a lot and is already preparing to redo the existing dungeons.

Is it okay if we skip bosses too? Actually, could we just get a direct WP to the loot?
But seriously, if you don’t like playing the game by interacting with mobs, what are you even doing dungeons for?

The thing is it doesn’t need to take forever, it doesn’t need to be without incentive, and it doesn’t need to require a bunch of reflect utility skills. There are two very separate parts of the conflict:
1) Whether or not skipping mobs should be allowable in most circumstances
However, a lot of people are only championing this as a necessary choice because-
2) Silver trash having an extremely low effort / reward ratio

Sure, there should be optional side-stuff, but having mobs standing around just to have players equip a stability skill and run past them is silly. Look at an Arah run, how much of that is extraneous skipping? It isn’t some great choice bestowed on you by ArenaNet to be able to skip because there is no reason to clear the (frequently irritating) trash.

So, your issue is the end does not justify the means. in regards of gameplay and “fun” factor of the game.

Well, these LoS using speedrunners (me included), to us a part of the “fun” is from the loot/shiny. Another part of the “fun” factor is doing things as efficient and fast as possible.

You can enjoy your game as you like, and we enjoy it as we like. It does not classify our way of doing it “Wrong”

I’m saying your concept of it as a strategy is less correct than it being poor game design. By that token, every exploit is also a strategy, which is what this topic was actually about. Taking the path of least resistance is a pretty loose definition of strategy, but whatever, I’m not going to argue over a technicality. The fact of the matter is that you’re giving LoS too much credit if you think it’s a measure of skill and/or strategic gameplay, at least insofar as GW2.

I never put skill and strategy in the same boat.

You define LoS as being “Wrong” or “Incorrect/Less Correct” by whose or what standard? not looking at something too specific, more like enlighten me

this isnt LoS but similar: so using guardian GS 5 to pull > hammer 5 to lock > party AoE bombs. this is not strategic gameplay? (as to what definition you refer it to)

Bread.7516

You do realize that LoSing every pull actually minimizes the strategy you can use in an encounter, and trivializes what would otherwise be difficult, right? And that designing things intentionally to require LoS makes the gameplay exceedingly tedious and gimpy.

Consider that we’re talking about a game here, not an IRL war. As anyone can see there are many realistic things that don’t translate well to gameplay.

Now tell me how having one person pull a mob, with the other 4 stacked behind a wall, waiting to button mash is substantially better than the gasp ‘tank and spank’ stigma that every wannabe pro throws around. I’d even say you’re getting less out of the game by resorting to such a ‘strategy’ every time rather than attempting to engage them normally, trying to manage them with aggro, or use control skills (like the guardian greatsword, mesmer curtain etc). In that case you are at least semi vulnerable, and have to react accordingly.

But then look at CM. Everyone effectively has to go range and stand still in order to not get 2 shot sniped. No, you cannot dodge every shot either. No, having a guardian in your group to reflect stuff isn’t skill either. Of course, you LoS them, but how fast does that get old?

“getting most of the game, how fast it get’s old” that’s not the point of the said strategy, dont deviate from the topic

“strategy is about shaping the future” and is the human attempt to get to “desirable ends with available means”.

So, LoS (line of sight) is doing things the “wrong” way? LoS having the effect of mobs being balled up and closing the gap of projectile users; manipulating positions. Very similar to hiding behind a wall so you don’t get shot.

Again, how is taking a stealth person completely out of stealth by a CC not a nerf? ok I got a 4sec stealth, I use it to run away, and within 1/2 of a sec I get hit with a AoE chili and now my 4 sec stealth is gone and not even used… that is a huge nerf.

chill isnt a CC effect.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Control_effect
Daze, Stun, Launch, Knockdown, Pull, Float, Sink, fear, etc..
maybe not include all control effects?(balance issue).

and about your aoe problem, how about using dodge? most aoe CCs are easily dodged.

yes it “nerfs” it, but i’m pushing ideas that introduce mechanics and depth of play.

i suggested stealth since i know it the most, when i play other classes as vigorously then i my be able to suggest other more “real” mechanics.

as i said im not looking at balance at all, im only looking at gameplay mechanics.

(if youre too focused on nerf buff then buff stealth by making more skills give stealth, or make cloak and dagger land easier.)

your head is too focused on mmos rather than games in general

WHY!!!! Stealth isnt that OP to give it more and more nerfs. Just go play a thief learn, really learn how to play it and then come back and say “Nerf stealth”.

lol, i agree it isnt OP

- i play thief
- i;m not whining about stealth
- brings more depth and realism
- as i said at the start of the post “i didnt think about balance”
- the suggestion is about having interesting mechanics

More Interesting Bosses

I was thinking along the lines on “how would an army take out a titan?” and thought up a few mechanics.

just to be familiar let’s just say the boss is the giant humanoid DE

- he’s mobile (not like DE bosses that are stationary)
- he flails around and swings arms and does aoes

- give it multiple targets with separate hit points for example: each limb has its own hp (r.leg, l.leg, r.hand, l.hand, body, head)

- each limb is connected to certain abilities, like the boss stomp and right/left foot

- each limb has different armor rating and hp

- melee/ranged is taken into account. meaning melee can only hit certain parts at certin states
i) standing – melee: feet
ii) kneeling – melee: arms and feet
iii) down – melee: all

- killing the HP of the limbs gives it an effect like he kneels and gets stunned for a bit, he cant throw rocks, he gets blinded and groggy. If 1 foot is down he limps, but if both are down he falls flat and head is reachable for melee.

- killed limbs recover hp but is capped after each down (something like stamina and weakening).

As with my other post, not very well thought out (more like 5 minutes?) but i think these would provide more interesting bosses than stationary ones where u can just mindlessly hit anywhere.

PS: it peeves me that when tequatl flies u can hit an invisible hitbox and he still takes damage

These are just a few ideas floating around, didn’t really think it too well in terms of balance.

and for everyone’s info i do play thief, i love it i just think stealth just needs to be a bit more realistic(?).

1) stealth is “revealed” if hit by a Control Effect.
- the idea is similar to getting knocked out of balance and fumbling.

2) bleed leaves a very faint blood trail.
- maybe intensify according to amt of stacks of bleed? (but still a conservative visualizaition imo)

EDIT: to people looking at this as a “nerf” post, that’s not really what im looking at. if you only play mmos then dont even bother looking at this post since all u know is “buff and nerf”.

I am a gamer, i play a diverse amount of games from indie to AAA, i just think these are interesting mechanics to introduce, most aoe CC skills can be easily dodged anyway

You guys do not see the problem here, just blame me for my mistake…
Was this mistake not there, i would not have bought it right?

Come on guys, none of you find this a little bit disturbing ?

no, not really. imo you’re too used to the absurd “consumer protection” culture.

The prices were clearly displayed with no cover-up intended.
You did fail to look at the price tag before purchase; it was your mistake and it is irresponsible to blame it on another.

your party is probably full of bad players who only know traditional (lame) mmo facetank and spank.

spider queen is simple > avoid aoe pools > avoid being in front of her

movement and positioning is important.

I am not poor, I just dun like how ppl took advantages of limited items by up marking it.

oh look, it looks like the bank every player that has been playing since release.

So in short you want a communist type society? where people who are smarter and foresee (obvious) market trends should not be rewarded?

pure hard work doesn’t pay off, it’s when you use your head AND work hard that pays off big

Graveling Knockdown in AC

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

There are a number of side issues with the gravelings that make them more difficult than just finding a dodge button. The leaps seem to have an aoe so if you go to revive someone you can easily get knocked down by a graveling leaping at the downed player. The leaps are far enough to come from off screen, again a problem if you have turned to look at a downed player perhaps. The walls of the caverns can force changes in the camera angles as you move. After the gravelings stop still and prepare for a leap they can they jump in any direction onto a moving target. Whilst this seems sensible to stop players running rings round the gravelings it does mean that players have to dodge every leap that might happen. Rangers pets are a good example of creatures that stop to perform an animation for their aoe attacks with a specific facing, meaning that they always miss a moving target. As previously mentioned you cannot break stun while mid air and the gravelings can kick you about so much that you don’t land before you are downed or dead.

I don’t see these “problems” as a failing on the mechanic, i see it as the player’s own failing to be aware of his surroundings.

Everyone i know agrees, it’s easy to get knocked down, and even with all 3 utilities made for breaking stun/having stability/aegis, you can still get knocked down and killed before the kd is over.

This seems ridiculous to everyone I know, and despite everyone building around it, we all die similar deaths involving large salamaders.

Should this be fixed or nerfed or?

I actually do not agree, it’s easy to deal with the knock downs; dodge or when youre already down hit stun breaker / stun breaker+Stability.
those knockdowns have a pretty obvious tell.
Only time it kills you is when the player himself screws up.

If seasoned enough you do not even need stun breaker and stability in AC, stun breakers are there for when you find yourself in trouble.

Remain the same. Use stability and dodge.

Stability/invulernability is bugged. Sometimes they work, sometimes they do not (atleast for the guardian).

It’s not bugged

Invulnerability (renewed focus) for guardian is NOT a stun breaker.

you cannot break stun mid-air of a launch/blowout; activate break stun when youre flat on the ground and not bouncing.
