Im not saying bug-free. Even when the internet wasn’t very popular, games were not bug-free. Polish is not the same as being bug-free. As you say, it’s impossible and should not even be talked about because only an idiot would assume any software is completely rid of bugs.

The reason for releasing before it is polished is because at some point they have to start making money. Development costs are high and initial funds don’t last forever. A company, for MMOs specifically, would collapse long before releasing a polished game.

Yet somehow companies are still crunching out well-polished games.

Also i don’t see it as “mmo” that’s not a real genre (it’s like saying co-op is a genre), i see games as games; being an mmo is no excuse.

Even if the functional requirements are met, that doesn’t mean it is ready for the consumers. It needed more time to incubate, and ill say it again someone somewhere pushed the game before it was ready.

It is a matter of perspective in a sense since creating games is an art-form, and in my perspective the level of polish for games these days are declining and only a handful of companies do it right. Anet is not one of them anymore.

You’re very correct Nage, people have no patience. Many don’t even seem to know what it is anymore. They forget that Rome was not built in a day. The same goes for any form of entertainment, video games especially.

Well, being patient towards a game might hold true with games which are advertised as an early access title, but for complete titles some companies just push it too far.

Games aren’t made like they are used to, only a few companies test and polish their game properly. Basically someone somewhere pushed the game before it was ready.

Building games takes years so they should have taken the time needed to polish it properly than release it half baked.

4.2k hours played since headstart, +1k gold down the forge, 0 precursor drops yet 4 legendaries and 1 precursor waiting to be crafted all thanks to the wonders of the TP.

If you want a legendary then just buy the kitten thing from the TP.

Nothing legendary about that.

Then win it in the upcoming PvP tournament.

Is OP complaining about not being able to afford LUXURY items with minimal effort?

This game is casual friendly in terms of equipment acquisition – best in slot gear is easily attainable.

Complaining about not being able to afford an expensive car when your only source of income is mowing lawns part time is just absurd.

Can we talk about the trinity?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Bread.7516

I don’t fully understand why they got rid of the tank/dps/healer trinity.

But as a dps’er, you can’t gauge your contribution unless you have a dps meter, and even if you did you really didn’t make the “plays” that saved the day.

Sorry about the rant, but am I right about this and is high end pve just not for people like me? Or am I wrong and there are non glass cannon builds that are not only viable but preferred?

Basically the problem revolves around your experiences as a gamer, I assume you’re not very versatile in terms of multiple genres if you don’t understand their general direction for combat.

As for the “saves the day” argument. You feel the extreme need for someone to be dependent on you? That’s just not right…If you want to stand out do it with your individual skills rather than having a system in the game do it for you.

Liking and disliking the “no trinity” system is another story and is simply left to personal preference.

Ahh, I get you.

Eh, for some aspects of PvE, that’s true (the open world mostly), but for others, you still require a skill called teamwork and co-ordination, as well as understanding your class. If you haven’t got the knowledge on how to play your class, then all of the gear in the world won’t help your group.

Yep pretty much, but i think i would lump in knowledge of class and encounters under “depth”, where execution and coordination would be under “skill”.

Pretty much the argument of trinity or no trinity depends on the designers perspective of combat. The developers explicitly mentioned in videos before release that this will not be the typical mmo. People with a wider experience with multiple genre of games can see where they are heading, but others who almost only exclusively play typical mmos are confused.

I guess what I’m trying to say is that the problem (PVE & Dungeons getting dull) is not solved by putting in traditional mmorpg trinity concepts but rather delving deeper into the genre the developers picked (Action-like games).

One of the things they need more interesting encounters and not gimmicks. Lupi is regarded as one of the more interesting bosses because it employs some elements present in action games, but it still pales in comparison in terms of basic or fundamental aspects; there are so many basic and fundamental design in action games that they ignore which leads to a shallow encounter.

With Anet’s resources, existing skills, and animations it isn’t hard to make boss encounters that are good.

tl;dr – Anet needs to think about giving mobs/bosses a “personality” first. Less stat counting and gimmicks, more focus on mob/boss movements and skills that make sense in execution (rather than giving mobs a playlist of skills to spam).

I disagree with his statement, however. It’s just a case of different games requiring different types of skills. You wouldn’t use the same skills in GW2 as you would, say, EvE.

As I have no experience of EvE and just only heard stories from my friends i cannot comment on this, but generally I agree with what you say – some games require other skills as i hear EvE is a very economics and social based game.

On the other hand there are games such as diablo or even WoW (I know diablo isnt an mmo but a good example of an extreme) where as long as you have the gear and build a monkey can do PVE, this is what i was pointing to – the typical mmos floating around

Ok I know I am going to get a lot of hate respond from this topic but some 1 has to call it out and so I will.
So how is this ruined the game?

A thread like this pops up too frequently.

As every player know that now on days doing pve dungeon every one demands for a zerker class.

You liar, many/most parties don’t even care about your equipment or build. Stop lying and misinforming people.

MMO RPG are all about learning mobs weakness and strength , always been about what is the best weapon or skill to use on a boss and learn what attack a boss does.
This game has all that but can be completely ignore since zerker build can dps the boss so fast that it doesn’t aloud the boss to do much.

Not all mmorpgs need to be the same as the garbage mmorpg in your head, gw2 is supposed to be an action-like game. Have you even played any third-person action games?

there has to be more ppl out there like me who would rather play with strategy then just hack and slash a boss , I mean there is D3 for that

Go play WoW or other crap mmo that requires people to be punched in the face.

FYI: D3 inferno PRE-PATCH (jay wilsoned edition) is what you want – i finished it, it’s dumb. 0 player skills needed, if you have the right build and gear a monkey can play it.

What is classed as Zerker?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Bread.7516

Bread.7516

I wonder if people who say “zerk only” in LFG without a gear check REALLY know what they are getting.

Many don’t without gear checking.

3 people who refused to show gear at all and typed why should they, (not sure why they joined a “gear check group”)

These people are the worst, they shove their ideals down people’s throats and cannot accept that there are just different people who likes different things. People like hanging out with similar people. In this case people who can read like hanging out with other literate people. If they don’t want to link their gear they should just leave.

So my questions are, what is actually classed as zerker and acceptable, what is an acceptable LFG to try and find a like minded group?

Basically full zerk top to bottom, atleast exotic with meta setups. Also, the right builds but can’t really check that.

I read here to avoid asking about APs and class and that “gear check” was the most acceptable way to filter to attract a like minded group

AP isn’t a very good metric since if person has full zerk exo with meta weapons and builds, he PROBABLY knows what’s up. usually just type in caps “P(n) ZERK ONLY” – the shorter the message the better.

Is gear check a waste of time because of the amount of time it takes you probably could have completed the dungeon already with a full settlers or PTV group?

Keep at it and definitely gear check, don’t be guilty on kicking people who are stubborn, just immediately do so. Add people to your friends list that you find enjoyable to run with and eventually you won’t have to PUG as much. It’s basically just like making friends through an activity. That’s where we all start, and then you find the gems where you enjoy running with and know that they got your back.

Once we needed 1 guy to fill a slot, we got a full PTV ele with 6 Soldier runes and signets. It was a good laugh. Signet Shout ele – new meta!

Tell me which encounter makes the boss less effective when we are stacked?
And DO NOT say spider queen.

Why not?

Spider queen’s primary mechanic is to immobilize players in a poison AoE. Without the AoE when the party stacks there’s not a whole lot left. I’d say that makes the boss far less effective when stacked. It’s a loophole in her AI.

But yes, other fights that are typically stacked (e.g. the abominations just before Lupi) still require some level of situational awareness…

Spider queen as an example typically insinuates that one doesn’t know much about dungeons.

Spider queen poison pools don’t affect FULL MELEE parties even when not in that corner.

Sensible reasons to why people stack at spider queen:
- baby spiders
- fire turrets
- burning taint sword

Dumb reasons to why people stack (thunkin izz hurdd..durr hurr)
- because they saw it in a video

Dumb Stack spot bonus mention: The graveling stalker spot on top of the rocks just after queen.

Spider queen alone without babies and turrets is easier without corner LoS, why? because you can surround her and her cleave doesnt hit all of you with spider web and weakness debuff.

if you are telling me stacking in corner is explot, consider full cleric party, facetanking everything without any scratch, an exploit too. ;p

Gearing up specifically to survive and sacrificing damage is different from gearing for full damage and surviving because the boss can’t fight effectively.

So how is this exploiting? Do you even know what exploiting means in the context of gaming, because you sure are showing people that you don’t.

For reference: Hrouda (original dungeon designer) has mentioned before that running full berserker is fine and intended for parties that can work well with each other. It was from an old post around release regarding all dungeons in general.

Seems to me you just want a typical mmo, well guess what – they’re not in shortage and you can go play those.

Regarding the AI talk: although far from perfect, dredges are probably the best we have in terms of AI…

Good variety of ranged and melee damage
Group buffing, including protection
Good CC
Ranged mobs have defenses if engaged in melee (bombers run, oscillators and resonators use CC)
Add spawning mechanism through the mining suit
Immunity to one of, if not the most powerful condition for PvE

…and yet, they’re still considered by many as the worst and most hated type of enemy in the game. I understand things like fractal’s clown car gives them a bad reputation, but I also saw people complaining about them back in the molten facility dungeon, simply because they don’t like the blind immunities or the dazes.

Sometimes I wonder if people truly want challenging AI/design when they are already bothered by dredges.

Dredge do not have good AI just a spam of skills available to them, same AI as regular mobs.

I was thinking this as well. Take 100 gold and order a HUGE number of items for way too low a price. Pretty sure there’s no limit to how much you can spend on the TP. Order 1000 Giant Eyes at 10 silver each. If they ever get that low you’ll be rich but more likely, you’ll have found a safe haven for your money.

Most effective? Maybe, but not nearly as easy. Zerk for having very high dps by forcing the player to be more skilled on timing their skills, positioning, and dodges.

Well yeah, that’s what i’m saying. If it stays as the ideal most effective then it will still be the meta, just less players who can handle it or stay effective wearing it.

But there poses a problem, within the whole time gw2 has been released – i doubt Anet knows how to make action-like bosses. They’ll probably just mess with stats of bosses employ the same formula and jay wilson it (lol), or worse…more gimmicks.

Insert unblockables, non-projectile classified actual projectiles, moves you can even use invul. feel free to add to the wall of shame. Note to devs: if you wan;t to make something unblockable, make sure it’s intuitive that you cant block it.

Basically, given anet’s track record I THINK most dungeon vets are skeptical if there is a current change to dungeons. If you can’t do it right, leave it alone.

…they have no dungeon team, and they have HR issues. (spread too thin)

Bread.7516

Correct me if i;m wrong but the term “Meta” in the context of gaming means the most optimal/best right? it is not about how many people adapt the build or strategy, it’s about the ideal best.

So if less people do not use the meta, yet it is still the best in the hands of good gamers, then the meta stays the same.

Btw if you create a dark souls type feel and difficulty to the bosses (which im all for it), the meta will still be full zerk and nothing will change except more casuals complaining about difficulty.

—april 25 ds2 PC here i come lol

It wouldn’t. Zerk is optimal now because its the fastest way to get through dungeons, but mainly because of the bad design, poor mechanics, and certain holes in the game design(like corner stacking). If that was gone then zerk wouldn’t be optimal because it would be too difficult. The thing is there is nothing difficult baout running zerk now hen you can skip mobs or corner stack them in dungeons.

It’s not that difficult to run zerk even if you don;t corner LoS or skip.

Stacking is just full melee, people still need to dodge block reflect etc.

Being able to run 5 zerks – there is nothing wrong with that. From the point of view of a dark souls player (or any legit action game player) there REALLY isn’t anything wrong with that unless one is a crappy DS player.

Only thing i agree on is AI overhaul for more interesting bosses, 5-man zerk should still be as effective.

He calls trinity system and mmos “hardcore” lol

..Because stacking on top of one another, zerging down a boss and ignoring nearly every mechanic involved therein, and then running past the trash to the next boss some how constitutes as skill and reflex-based combat?

- you don’t “zerg” a dungeon genius.

- skipping as a team also requires coordination and one of the main reasons speed runs are fast. (pugs and even most teams cant do this because of long tails)

- stacking is just positioning you still have to dodge, block, reflect, and (minor) reposition

- Increase the skill requirement (actual skill, not stat counting and excel mashing) more casuals will cry and game goes bye bye.

- full melee is now “ignoring mechanics” wow…

Why do you care if other people tailor their dungeon running group to adhere certain standards? You wouldn’t want to play with them anyway so why force the issue? Stop forcing players to play with you if they don’t want to.

It’s so easy to just post an LFG and the party will fill fast. What’s stopping you from creating your own group?

About puzzles – they’re fine first or second time you do a dungeon, but after that the replay value comes from the encounters in the dungeon. People will tolerate a certain amount of puzzles if there is a good enough encounter to look forward to. In the case of TA aether, it’s not that interesting. But he’s quite dumb, that’s just ranger s/d skills being spammed. He didn’t backstep due to being mobbed and as soon as he uses hornet sting he immediately uses monarch’s leap.

That’s quite the problem with bosses, their AI is mainly – see enemy>chase enemy>spam skills on cooldown.

Anet's obsession with unblockables

What’s up with all the unblockable attacks? seriously i would like an answer to that obsession which negates the use of aegis, shelter, blocks, etc… ignoring active blocking mechanics you boasted in this game.

Lupi's kick

How do people deal with this? This is his only move that kittens me up every time. No noticeable (imo) telegraphed wind-up or anything. I stay right on top of him in melee, help please.

There is a little telegraph, he sort of does a little wind-up before the kick itself but sometimes latency is an issue so you have to feel it.

There is a certain behaviour with his target and how he locks on to a person before kicking, so you could move a little left or right.

This might help, he usually does kick>locust/grub>kick>locust/grub. Sometimes he does kick>locust AND grub.

He rarely double kicks, like “i think it may have bugged/reset his rotations” rare; almost never happens but it can happen.

Other people may have better ways with pointing out the tells.

If you’re not willing to admit that you’re just as much at fault as the other party, then you are only contributing to the problem.

Check the past threads, see which side is the most common instigator/thread starter.

I’ve been here for a while now; I’ve seen more than enough to make my case.

referring to created topics (thus instigators), and anyone who has been here a while knows the answer to that

There have been plenty of instances where the ‘instigators’ in question were those coming up with snarky, often insulting responses to people that may just have simple questions that they’d like answered.

Casual runners who post in a peaceful manner get a good treatment (eg, PASSS thread and that one other thread looking for likeminded runners).

Casual runners who post threads about complaining, whining, forcing play styles, false information or claims get crap flooded on them with no pulled punches. Of course responses to these threads become snarky and insulting. They may have been simple questions but more often than not they’re people forcing an idea rather than just leaving it on the table for people to take.

Responses matter little since they’re to be expected, it’s about who fires the first shot more often.

Why people find it boring is not really due to the gear/build sets, it’s more of the boss encounters and AI lacking variety in their movesets and behaviour.

I appreciate your comment and this comment definitely stands out. My question for you would be; would you appreciate/enjoy a randomization of the Champions/Bosses forms of attacks instead of a continuous cycle of repetitive movements?

To answer that yes, action games have a certain RNG to their attacks but also have some sort of AI to detect player position and which set of attacks to execute. If you notice sometimes in action games, bosses just walk, wait, and see what you do before executing an attack/defense.

That is not all that is lacking, bosses in gw2 are not only dumb, they have no movement. Example they don’t back step / side step, they don’t step-in (leap/rush attacks to close gaps or to get out of danger zones), there are not many aoe “screw off” attacks or defensive abilities. Distancing and zoning should be something a player needs to be aware of (besides max cleave range).

Also to compensate for the slow attacks on bosses, most of their hits need to be Launch/Stagger attacks – a common trait seen in action games. This could be the answer to player’s complaints about 1-shots; skilled players can stay within proper zone, less skilled have trouble staying in it and have more difficulty. Zoning may also potentially be an actual solution to their ranged problem in pve encounters depending on how they balance out skills – don’t count on this.

The reason people like lupi so much is because he is probably one of the few bosses that his move sets emulate an action game boss but without the AI (he’s like action game boss ‘light-version’). Games like these need to be intuitive, if a boss gets a buff – an icon below their HP bar is not an acceptable indicator (make your animation team work).

Also try CoF p3 boss full melee, he’s sort of fun-ish if not bugged to cancel out is invul stages(imo instead of invul he should just immediately stomp from point A to B – no one likes waiting). You will see a change on people’s fighting patterns in gw2 – it’s more reactive.
