It’s cute that he thinks +150 prec to 5 people is enough for a ranger to catch up with his garbage dps.

also, he seems to be suggesting “optimal” is a well rounded and versatile team.

but isn’t optimal and min/maxing supposed to be very focused in accomplishing the fastest and most efficient speed runs?

So i’ve been waiting to get my hands on this armor for my mesmer.

It has been there since release and it’s even one of the original concept art.
Any reason why no one is working on these classy armor pieces that doesn’t ooze out obnoxious particle effects?

One of the appeals guildwars 1 had was classy and sleek looking designs I’d like to see those in gw2 and I think many others would like to see these as well.

well, back then i had a very rough test (non-conclusive). but it implied that if you don’t land the last hit of 100b, you’re better off using axe auto atk. but due to the recent changes of axe it would be very different.

So back then, in a CoE setting, i usually wait for the aoe, then swap GS > WW> 100b to make sure my 100b landed

Oh I forgot to add something about calculating damage. the tool tip base damage is said to be very inaccurate and you might want to take a look at this page regarding skill coefficients.

http://pvx.gw2buildcraft.com/Damage_Calculations#Skill_Coefficient

imo anet should be providing us with accurate data and not let us go through hoops just to get simple data. We even have to figure out how long it takes to use each skill manually.

Well, I have offered various reasonable methods to test out his claims. From capturing a video dungeon speedrun, raw data calculations to see where those numbers popped up, to something as simple as getting that guardian build and ill do everything while giving credit to him.

I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt because I’m sure there are some things in the game that could be pushed further.

Probing for more information is always fun for me but at the end of the day claims without data that leads to it is all smoke and mirrors. Sort of like a ponzi scheme (correct my analogy if it’s wrong, im not very good at it)

I can pretty much figure out his intentions for posting, also it seems as if he has something to hide (related), so I think I’ll just sit back and enjoy the show now. Good day.

> Warrior also gives a 2 vuln for cyclone axe, and 1 vuln per autoatk on GS (which you do about 1 slash in a cycle)

Actually, since the patch that buffed the guardian’s vuln duration a pure, 100% dps built guard could probably maintain more vuln now cycling between blinds and symbols.

Hmm, that’s good to know. I really like guardian and i’m personally testing things out on my free time. I’ll give it a look-see.

In terms of raw dps guardian vs warrior, if you claim guardian to be the better we can easily test this out and i can record it

For the record, lets not include reflected damage in this dps comparison since we all know there are certain bosses that can have 250k+ damage reflected back into their faces.

Reflect is situational, so i agree on this. I’m suggesting a dps test on a sandbag boss that cant really hit back and has a set duration on how much damage you can do to him. coe p3 evolved destroyer. imo it’s a pretty accurate meter given the tools we have to work with.

If anyone else has dps tests they are interested in doing with this method feel free to contact me, i’m always interested in it.

  • Guardian Whirling wrath is about <3 secs and >2secs and the damage is maximized IF you can get the full 15 hits (which is possible) but standard is 9 hits. The downside is the cooldown 10s. While he can burst, the problem comes after the burst. While guardian is auto attacking it’s losing the dps race against warriors using axe auto attack.
  • Warriors should never complete and autoatk cycle on GS, save for the 1 or 2 slashes before swapping. Blade trail is also good for dps when there is no walls, if there is WW deals huge damage. Axe auto attack steals the cake for consistent DPS. Warrior also gives a 2 vuln for cyclone axe, and 1 vuln per autoatk on GS (which you do about 1 slash in a cycle)
  • Traits – guardian traits aren’t laid out as well as warriors in terms of damage boosting and stat boosting synergy. Warriors give a huge damage boost on the % damage area whereas guardians have less. 20% on aegis uptime is huge but reality is you will not always have that consistently when stacking most of the time (maybe just some fights).

Please show real data and findings, I will give you the benefit of the doubt and assume you might have found something but just like everything without proof and data, assumptions and claims do not matter.

In terms of raw dps guardian vs warrior, if you claim guardian to be the better we can easily test this out and i can record it. I can tailor whatever character you need to prove your point and test it.

I like how you guys still haven’t figured out the basic concept behind “warrior support does not stack”. You want warriors for Empower Allies, FGJ, Banner of Discipline, Banner of Strength, and Battle Standard. A single warrior can take all of those so you don’t need more than one. The only thing a second warrior will bring to the party is 3 extra might stacks from FGJ and 150 extra power from Empower Allies (which, last I checked, actually does stack). The problem is, warrior DPS is actually pretty bad, so two warriors with Empower Allies (+300 power on each) actually deals less than, say, a warrior and a guardian.

You CAN get to 25 might and fury with 5 warriors but you are basically jumping through hoops to coordinate it. It will WORK, it just isn’t optimal. There’s a difference. The problem is that most people aren’t able to perceive it, because they base their impression on “this feels like it does a lot of damage because it made a big number” rather than actually objectively measuring their contribution.

The fact that 5-warrior runs in CoF tend, on average, to be the slowest runs is pretty much all the proof you need of this. I don’t even join the “$$$$$ FAST FARM DPS ZERK WARRIOR OMG SO GOOD” runs anymore, most take forever because warriors are honestly rather crap for DPS. They are more of a support class than anything, which is why they do such good solo damage. Self-support. Which is different from having a high base DPS.

In terms of weapon damage coefficients what other class can have a sustained dps like a warrior?
keep in mind trait bonuses gives warriors really high damage, and the axe to GS spam cycle’s dmg coefficient is really high.

you seem to not want to do a video, maybe it’s a hassle for you.

how about just showing us your spreadsheet or calculations, real data instead of just a few snippets of your claims?

im in the US server, ill offer to record your lupi tests or kills if you want.

else i know another way where u can test your dps purely without disturbances if you prefer. only requires a few people, ill record for you.

Don’t like to play advocate but (probably) his spreadsheets assume team support so solo tests are invalid, just like every dps test made strictly for dungeons.

makes things a lot more simple then. he can get his friends to do the usual dungeon run, ill just fill in a slot and record. i have every class on 80 and geared anyway so i can tailor it to his request.

So with this setup we can see how fast the dungeon runs go.

Bomb Kit + Elixir Gun + Shield + Heal Turret, while throwing grenades the rest of the time.

I’m also interested in seeing this alleged 9 minute Arah duo speedrun video.

I don’t really see the fire field here. If someone else gives you a combo field fire you could also take LH eles, who additionally grant fury and maintain much higher dps.
You might check gwscr.com if you are interested in screens or videos of records im talking about.

Anyway, are you EU servers? If so we can just duo some arah paths and we will all see how much better your ranger/engineer is than my warrior because i’ll fraps and upload it.

Fire Bomb is a fire field. Could you at least make an effort to wiki this stuff beforehand?

And no, I am US server. I don’t know what the current exploit is for skipping Lupicus anyway, if there even still is one.

Warriors are nice for support (banners are really really good) but none of that support stacks (except Empower Allies) so stacking multiple warriors is like buying 20 cans of wax to buff up your beat-up old minivan; you can polish it all you want but you’re not going to get any better results after the first can and the guy with the brand new sports car will still look better.

only 1 warrior needs to bring empower allies and it doesn’t stack

Warrior utilities ive seen on speedruns
Banner of Disc
Banner of Str
Frenzy
FGJ (stacks)
On My Mark (10 vuln each) stacks till 25

I don’t see where warrior utilities overlap

Molch had a point in saying why does 1 single character need to maintain 25 vuln and 15 might for the whole team by himself? there are 5 people in the team so whenever other people overlap on certain aspects, it’s a dps loss

you seem to be very sure about your claims, how about some data such as dps tests, kill times etc.

1) Ranger sword is one of the fastest attacks in the game. It hits a full chain approximately every 1.8 seconds, which means it hits at the same speed as the warrior’s axe chain. By comparison, a warrior’s greatsword chain takes 2.5s, which means the ranger attacks almost as fast as a greatsword warrior does with quickness on.

no one (war) autoatks with greatsword save for the momentary 1st GS#1 swing.

according to wiki the assumed times for ranger 1h totals 1.9s (.6 +.6 +.7) so pretty close to what you claimed

axe auto attack is 3.6 seconds for the whole sequence (again according to wiki) but the damage modifiers of ranger 1hsword is FAR from the damage modifier of warrior axe.

2) Rangers have immensely high crit rate by default. Spotter is now +150 precision to the entire party, which is worth 7% crit chance, and they maintain fury more easily than any other class. A ranger with Spotter, 30 in Skirmishing, and full zerker armor with Ruby Orbs will have a crit chance of 84.7%. Add in the Warrior’s Banner of Discipline and a consumable that gives +100 precision, and Sigil of Accuracy, and you have a crit chance over 100%. The guardian is the only other class that can achieve those numbers.

Fury uptime shouldn’t be a problem to any party carrying a few warriors

spotter is nice.

food consumption for speed farm runs is usually omnom bars + 10% [enemy type] Potion.

Usually in dungeons sigils are 10% [enemy type] + 10% [sigil of night] OR 5% force maybe sigil of accuracy? (given you already have your bloodlust stacks)

I think sigil of accuracy is a waste if your crit rate is already high enough (have not personally tested dps differences). With high enough crit chance i would prioritize power because of crit dmg multiplier

conclusion

The only edge u claim would be from crit chance (spotter), but it is not as important as power when everyone’s crit chance is high enough. Not to mention the loss of dps when replacing 1 ranger for 1 war.

With tests i think that your claim would come out false, but ofcourse i haven’t tested myself.

tl;dr: you claim ranger to be better warrior than dps, but just a quick look at the numbers it doesn’t seem to be true.

Cathedral and Citadel aren’t located in the same place. And during the Searing, most of the Catacombs collapsed, thus the excavation teams.

But the dungeons in GW2 do feel smaller than in GW1 visually and they are actually incredibly smaller (except maybe Arah). Then again, in EotN, most dungeons were reskins of each other, you really could get lost in them and there were hundreds of monsters in those multi level dungeons.

ah nice to know, but as nuka said im referring to the scale and size of old dungeons and the epic feel to it.

I think according to lore these are comparable, correct me if I’m wrong) – gw2 sorrow’s embrace and gw1 sorrow’s furnace. Sorrow’s furnace is a lot larger.

Since when is swapping characters exploiting?…

This thread was created around the time this thread was getting a lot of attention:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/skypirates/Easy-way-to-get-Personal-Space/first#post2324549

Because of that, many of the early posters assumed that he was writing this because someone messed up his attempt to exploit the “Personal Space” achievement. However, the actual act of character switching isn’t an exploit, it’s simply that people assumed he was using it for an exploit (whether it is an exploit or not isn’t what I’m arguing I’m simply answering why people in this thread might consider switching exploitative).

I understand the confusion but just to clarify things, i don’t do “achievements”

As any “fake god” will do to please their children cavemen’s mentality, instead moving them up, Anet will bring everyone down to the cavemen’s level.

^ I can just imagine it now…

*A-Net headquarters *

A man rushes into a busy room with a paper clutched tightly in a closed fist. His face is distraught, there are beads of sweat building on his forehead. Everyone in the room drops what they are doing and turn in their fancy swivel chairs to face him.

‘News just in!! Rangers… Rangers are under powered in dungeons’ He pants.

The room falls silent.
He unfurls the paper and exposes it to the crowd. On it appears screenshots of rangers using warrior banners to dps. It’s become the new meta. The new trend. Desperate rangers throwing down their bows and abandoning their dead bear pets for the sturdy reassurance of a warrior’s banner of discipline.

’That’s…. That’s not possible’ , Gasps someone from the masses. It’s Isaiah Cartwright.
‘It.. it could be..’ whispers Robert Hrouda.

‘I have the solution!!’ Boomed a powerful voice. Jon Peters rose to his feet and stared the other developers down with a cold eye.

‘You should all be ashamed. This is Guild wars 2. This is a balanced game. Rangers are not underpowered in dungeons. NO! Clearly the issue lies in every other class. Starting from today, we will lower all damage skills from every class except ranger until they are all EQUAL!!!’ He roars.

The room erupts in applause, Isaiah Cartwright collapses to his knees, shaking uncontrollably, tears streaming down his face. Robert Hrouda cheers emphatically, ’I’m going to make a new dungeon in honor of this day! A dungeon where rangers are needed! A dungeon where pets are required to progress!’

Not telling that you opened the run can be a troll safety net, because now every time someone will think of kicking they’ll be essentially playing a Russian roulette.

i’ve been playing this game a while and haven’t found a guild i’d like to stay with.

I’m looking for a guild that is not necessarily big but of good size,
- Friendly and decent
- Focused on PvE and Dungeon running (I mainly do dungeons)
- Concerned but not obsessed on speed running (not cof p1 but most dungeons),
- Concerned about min/maxing and dps testing builds.

I’m Generally not looking to join casual guilds, rather im looking to join semi-hardcore or hardcore guilds (farming repeatedly and long hours of play is not hardcore; hardcore meaning we try to learn all aspects of the game, have good skills, and most importantly keep trying to improve ourselves)

My characters (all lv 80)
Necro, Warrior, Mesmer, Guardian, Elementalist, Thief

Can anyone refer me to such a guild?

ill be checking this thread until i find a good guild to stay or you can contact me if you need more details. pm: Rainbow Muffin

You can roam and do well with zerker gear in WvW if you can react fast enough. Of course you don’t get a lot of room for error. And against other glass builds the fights normally go pretty quick. The only thing you have to watch for really is the troll thieves. They’re still bunker with a lot of movement. I don’t suspect that will last too long though.

In tournaments you probably won’t see warriors at all in the high-end b/c this game’s best strat is to bunker ftw if you can’t spike. Warrior is lacking on the healing side too much to play with the ‘big boys’ as far as bunkers and his only spike is highly predictable and was nerfed.

I don’t play a lot of sPvP though and when I do my zerk build works fine (mostly because you can’t build the same kind of zerk in sPvP). With the upcoming added mobility I’d suspect he’d be even more viable, though still out of the high-end.

But can we stop with all the comparisons to real life in video games? This is a game. If they gave you a skill to one-shot players with ease but you only got it by min-maxing 100% into one stat somehow, people would be doing that. It’s got nothing to do with professional fighting in real life.

“omg this is a game not real life”. well, it’s what they seem to be trying to achieve or go closer to if the high-level play is like that.

are you in T1 for wvw? because in T1 you don’t see a lot of berserker for a good reason

no finishers
only offhand focus is good
torch is garbage in PvE
shield is totally garbage in PvE; seriously guardian shield is really really crap in pve

it’s very sad that scepter(ranged) and 1h sword (melee) do comparable dps.

oh i wish 1h sword was any good. ive wanted infinite light for so long but nothing justifies my purchase if im not going to use it anyway

Lose – Heightened Focus
Gain – Warrior’s Sprint @ 25%

My build will change to 30/20/0/0/20 with
Strength
Restorative Strength
Slashing Power
Berserker’s Power
Arms
Furious Speed (definite 10s of swiftness on 15s cooldown)
Forceful Greatsword
Discipline
Warrior’s Sprint (25% speed w/ melee weapon)
Mobile Strikes

The extra mobility will definitely make up for loss of +9% crit at full adrenaline (not even permanent +9%). I may even go to sword main hand with all the extra cripples and damage it gets.

According to these “leaked” notes.

is this for pve/wvw/pvp?

i assume pve since it’s silly to go glass in wvw and pvp.

what’s the use of mobile strikes in pve in terms of dps?
should trait 25 in arms since it gives you 10% more damage instead and ditch mobile strikes

Can’t ditch Mobile Strikes for PvP. Its not ‘silly’ to build zerk in PvP and WvW, its hard. I enjoy the challenge personally. Can’t stand the bunker-and-win playstyle, it puts me to sleep.

mobile strike in pvp is senisble, but in any high level tpvp glass warrior is…garbage.
bunker is only for holding points. most people find a balance, there’s no fighter in any pro ring that has no speed technique or power; they have all, some just excel in few other aspects.

This game has the biggest concentration of whiners I’ve ever seen.

Holy crapola, this x10, x100, x a gazillion!
I wish I could +1 this post that many times.

And please for the love of everything good and decent stop all the whining!

What really irks me is that people will gripe about things like this that basically just boil down to “WAH! I want the reward but I want it now and without having to actually do it because I don’t like it!” while there are actual, legitimate reasons to be irritated like, say, the messed up communication on the Dragonball achievements that led to tons of AFKers messing up DB arena for people who actually wanted to play it.

It’s like these people never played an MMO before. OMG! You have to tap F next to a couple of pinatas that respawn quickly and reliably in one place! So terrible! I mean… you LITERALLY have to break, what, 6 Pinatas a day each day to get the achievement? That entails breaking all the Pinatas in the area of the Mystic Forge once a day! I can’t be bothered with such a horrible burden! It would take almost a full minute to do that! And if I wanted to do all the Pinatas in Lion’s Arch it would take me a whole FIVE minutes! THE HORROR!

Meanwhile, I remember doing the Fire Festival achievements in WoW that required you to not only run around to your own towns and light bonfires, but forced you into PvP by making you go into enemy towns to extinguish there’s. Can you imagine the crying if people in GW2 had to do something like that? And god help them if they ever saw the ones that required you to actually go into the populated enemy cities.

I mean, I get that some people want ANET to focus on longer development of more in-depth content and that’s fine, but the whining because they actually have to do something to get the little achievement popup is so freaking annoying….

Based off the OPs initial comment, I would think he/she would find the situation described (putting out bonfires in own town/extinguishing those in an enemy’s town) to be very preferable to whacking pinatas 150 times. I don’t believe anyone was suggesting that the time involved was inconsequential, whether done in an hour or stretched out over the next three weeks. I believe the observation was that the task itself, on top of 300 candies on top of 100 fireworks, on top of 300 holo creatures (which is different, albeit, then simply pressing F) is rather trivial and inconsequential and something a little “meatier” is desired.

Again, I mentioned accumulating pages/memories during the Halloween event which was still a collection quest, and broken down to its basics, was still gathering x amount of x, but in the end, the pages/memories were combined to provide the player with the backpiece. Somehow, I think more people preferred that than even doing what you were suggesting, which is, while I’m in Hoelbrak, I might as well whack these pinatas. It’s not the time involved, but the point, I believe is being brought into question.

And if there is no real point to it — if it’s merely content for content’s sake — why have it be 300, 150, or 50 even? Why not 5 or 10? Those who will burn through new content will do so regardless of the number, and those who won’t will attest to there being the sufficient amount of time to tag one here or there as they happen upon said task in their wanderings. And I think that was the point to the OPs post — the desire for content with a point/purpose/deeper meaning. Yes, this is a “Bash” rather than a living story update, but aspects of this were very similar to the early stages of F & F as well.

On a sidenote, I personally agree with your method of doing it as my play-style is very similar … I don’t have map completion, no legendary, never been in a dungeon, in no rush to do anything … hell, i have 17 chars total at levels all across the board. No rush to get them decked out in dungeon gear with ascended this and that, wielding Twilight or Bifrost, etc. … so if i happen upon a holo or a pinata, i’ll do it, but i’m not going out of my way to do so …

You nailed it.

Glad to see someone here has a brain; someone capable of analysis unlike the “wah whiner” response types..

Efficiency VS the so fabled elitism

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Bread.7516

Holding some classes and builds in higher regard than others is still elitist, no matter the reason. The problem with this game in particular though is that it’s not really the fault of the players that such elitism exists; the game’s PvE meta is completely DPS-centric and creates large gaps in efficiency between certain classes and builds. Warriors simply fill the role of DPS better than other classes, and since that’s 90% of what you need in this game there’s no reason to take classes that sacrifice DPS to excel in other categories other than maybe a guardian for boons and reflects and a mesmer for time warp. I’m not a fan of elitism myself, but until Anet balances PvE to make it require more strategy and skill than just straight DPS speed runs, there’s really no way to say that it’s not justified.

So just because we dont want to contribte to charity means we’re elitists?

Because giving our time purely for other people’s gain is charity.
Oh we are such scumbags just because we dont want to waste our own very limited time.

Action-like games almost always revolve around taking mobs down as fast as possible if you want to be efficient. (Dark souls, monster hunter). Card games might be right up your alley; it seems to be the case

Make it stop. Make the endless flood of threads about killing trash mobs stop please. These threads were dumb in November, and haven’t gotten any less pointless in June.

If you are planning to make a thread like this in the future…

1. stop and think about it.

2. think about it a second time carefully

3. and then don’t post it.

Agree with this. ^

If you want to kill make your own group then you can call the shots.
In a group, party leader or majority vote is usually the one to be followed.

We run multiple dungeons multiple times a day, time and efficiency is important to many players. Don’t tell us how to play the game.

If you can’t find people that want to play the way you do then that’s not our problem.

Why is it everyone else’s problem when people make a group but don’t specify speed run yet force the group to skip content despite never mentioning it when forming the group? The people who make these posts aren’t joining speed run groups, they are joining normal groups and are being forced to skip content despite having no desire to participate in a speed run.

If you want a speed run, label your group as such. Leave everyone else alone.

I could ask the same question back to you and suggest the same.

you ask why? i answer “it’s the norm”.
the norm is skipping certain mobs speedrun or not.

whatever the case, party leader usually calls the shots. You don’t agree? leave and find another party. what’s the big deal, and why all the drama? i’d guess someone has a hard time finding a party to his liking. Then i repeat, not our problem.

also save yourselves + signet of inspiration coupled with warrior trait empowered. that’s 2% additional damage PER unique boon.

If only save yourselves applied all those boons to the mesmer and not just yourself.

my bad, corrected

Catering to Casuals is Ruining GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Bread.7516

GW2 is not the CoD or LoL of MMO’s it was trying to be. Of being super accessible and casual, yet reward players for skill and hardcore play as well. And even LoL is ruined quite a bit from the catering to casuals as the game as a whole is watered down and there is a whole load of depth removed from the game its derived from, DotA, just to cut down on the frustration of new players.

But GW2 just doesn’t care about the hardcore gamer at all, another thread stated the game was elitist in the opposite sense in which this word is usually used, in that if you aren’t the ideal player for Anet, if you don’t play between X and Y hours and are a tryhard in general, the game wants you to bugger off, you’re going to ruin it for the casuals.

Anet finally added endgame vertical progression in the form of ascended gear, and all the casuals SCREAMED that this was adding a gear treadmill. So now Anet vows that there will be no further treadmill. So what is the hardcore endgame now? Back to twiddling your thumbs, and trying to get that legendary while you rot in diminishing returns. Anet realizes this is a problem and thus they are working on revamping their PvP offerings, which in reality, is the only way you will keep hardcore players playing without adding a PvE gear treadmill.

Atm GW2 is not rewarding in terms of time put into the game or the amount skill/effort you put into it, just so the casual player can have his day in the sun and achieve just as much as people more dedicated to the game. Whereas more healthy game design would allow players to play the game both casually and as a hardcore gamer, giving both methods of playing unique perks. Take LoL for instance, casual players are generally as competitive as everyone else and can get champions faster than hardcore gamers in terms amount of hours played thanks to the First Win of the Day bonus, while hardcore gamers will generally have more options to choose from, along with getting to hone their skills more.

Hardcore is skill. not farm.

If you think hardcore gaming means repeatedly farming, then..lol

3 war 1 guard 1 mes. p3 destroyer dies even before shield flickers

Do you even need the guardian for CoE? I feel like that could be speedrun just like CoF with 4W/1M..

sanctuary knocks down destroyer for 5 seconds-ish. else just use aegis. less time dodging means you can do your DPS combo setup seamlessly and consistently. So you don’t have to cancel that final hit of 100b ever. 2 Aegis should be enough to down him.

also unique guardian boons (SYG/HTL/symbols/etc…) + signet of inspiration coupled with warrior trait empowered. that’s 2% additional damage PER unique boon.
If we run 4war 1mes (which we also do) I take off empowered trait and redirect it to 30/25/0/0/15.

you can also do 4war 1mes or whatever combination you feel like. we run this mainly due to it being consistent and comfortable, we run CoE for long hours so comfort is actually needed here.

the bare minimum we have tried for 1shot destroyer is 3war 1 mes. the other guy went away for a while lol.

Reasons for canach/null confusion

in Last Stand at Southsun

More than this, it’s a Trap. Everyone knows how traps work in GW2. If it’s an enemy trap it hurts you and not your enemies, if it’s a friendly trap it hurts your enemies and not you nor your allies. Then game mechanics. Things that are red hurt you but not their allies. Things that are green are safe to you and your allies, but hurt anyone else.

It’s intuitive as long as you follow it with knowledge of how to play the game and not unrelated real world information.

This knowledge of “armed” and “disarmed” traps is not unrelated real world info; it is common sense.

A quick google definition of intuitive “Using or based on what one feels to be true even without conscious reasoning; instinctive.”

I’ve been actively playing since release, i do dungeons a lot (90% of my online time). I’m pretty knowledgeable of the game mechanics, though I dare not claim to know everything.

Friendly traps are usually white aoe, if not all. so in this argument of being intuitive or aoe circles leablo is correct.

Things that are green are safe to you and your allies, but hurt anyone else.

Friendly effects are white circles. I can’t really think of much else in the game where green is symbolic of not just friendliness, but exclusive friendliness to you while being dangerous to enemies. Can you name what you’re thinking of? Green is also the color of hostile mobs that are lower level than you. So at any rate it’s not consistent.

The only reason this wouldn’t be confusing is if you happen to share the same school of thought as the designer, or you read other sources before actually trying to figure things out for yourself. I gave it a couple tries and then looked it up on the wiki because kitten it. Of course the mechanic is actually simple enough (and the whole instance is easy IMO) once you understand what has to be done, but the instructions given by the game did not help with getting there. This felt a lot like playing a console game that was badly translated from Japanese, but this isn’t SAB so I don’t get the joke.

I wasn’t talking about traps in that line. Which is why I had a separate line specifically for traps. The line about red and green was in reference to NPCs, but it’s still a universal truth of the mechanic. Red means enemy, green means allie. It’s not difficult, and anyone running around in Southsun should be well aware of it.

All you had to do was use your eyes and your brain, and actually listen to provided NPCs. I talked to Keil, she said specifically that Canach was too strong to actually hurt, but that I might be able to use his traps against him. I then used the device on the first trap I saw because I didn’t want to blow up and wouldn’t you know it, it didn’t disappear, it turned green. I then kept using the device until I got to Canach. I tried to hurt him, and wouldn’t you know she was right I couldn’t hurt him, so I dragged him toward a mine I’d flipped and again wouldn’t you know she was right, it hurt him.

We did use our eyes and brain, i personally finished it first try <2 minutes. So no, you’re not talking to idiots as you assumed.

As you stated, it was more a process of trial and error than knowing, or having sufficient knowledge of how to tackle the problem.

Reading Kiel’s dialogue is not needed as anything she mentions is already intuitive and immediately known via multiple channels; How to disarm mines to safely pass, Canach not taking damage, or the endure pain icon. There were also detectors and mines at the start, so good planning for this part. I don’t read optional NPC dialogues, NPC’s are rarely (if not never) helpful and i don’t role play.

My issue is mainly the part where there is confusion upon the definition of “armed” and “disarmed” mines.

If skills were named differently like “Convert” or something else rather than “Disarm” maybe that would have made a world of difference. Similar to CoE p2’s “Subvert” command during the boss fight. Maybe they could have insert 1 more line somewhere to clearly show that we are “coverting” the mines instead of disarming.

If people actually read descriptions instead of just running by everything that may possibly contain any information, there would be less confusion.

what specific description would tell players that a disarmed mine would still explode only when an enemy steps on it?

Disarm [Type] Mine
description: Tamper with a [Type] Mine

If things are not intuitive I think that a specific instruction is needed
