my fault for writing a check that 5 people wouldn’t show up to cash

People act like “don’t bring team buffs that you don’t need” is something unique to GW2. In any MMO I’ve ever played, you bring as much defense/healing as you need to survive and max the rest out as damage and offensive buffs/enemy debuffs. Anything more than the bare minimum in defense and healing that could otherwise be allocated towards offense means you’re prolonging the fight for no reason.
The only thing more unique to GW2 is the fact that every class has built-in damage avoidance, avoidance being far superior to damage mitigation. That leaves huge amounts of room to bring more offense. Thus: zerk gear, offensive buffs. Nothing else needed.
Wow, I did not know that. Explains why I’ve only had 2 inscriptions salvage so far. Luckily I didn’t spend tons of tokens trying to get them like some folks.
ed: JESUS CHRIST BRAZIL
Now that I know that every class but the Necromancer is good, I have a bit higher opinion of the devs who are in charge of pve balance.
My guess is that behind the curtain there are some very smart people who have good tools for determining DPS not just of individual characters but also in team functions. My other guess is that there are a lot of QA and test team people who are completely clueless.
I remain unconvinced of that. I mean, watch the streaming when they preview events and “dungeons” and stuff. Do you see any of them running the builds you guys come up with?
LH is definitely unintended IMO, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see it get the nerf bat.
Considering their “6% of testers beat Liadri”, I’d say their testers are probably in the bottom quintile of PvE skill.
That’s not true Byron, none of the Vision Crystal ingredients are buyable aside from the reagents. Dragonite especially is the limiting factor, as Nikaido described.
Oddly enough, I’ve found Empyreal to be the real limiting factor for me. After you do all the easy paths its hard to summon the endurance to do more dungeons again without gold bonus reward just for Empryreal fragments.
I could see that. I kind of hate the new rewards, it makes me not even want to run the 1 G dungeons even after I’ve done Arah/AC.

Come on Wethospu, we know what he’s saying
What we’re saying is you can’t just assert something and have it be true. It absolutely does not necessarily imply that muli-hacking is unintended. The possibility is there that it’s unintended, of course. But we don’t have to take it at 100% certainty that it’s unintended. And asserting that doesn’t make it true, no matter how many times you do it in one thread.
The only people who know with absolute certainty whether or not it’s intended are the developers who coded it. And even then, unintended mechanics aren’t always and shouldn’t always be considered exploits.
So to gear up a class like guardian in ascended gear, if you want at least one of each : hammer, gs, sword, focus, scepter, it’ll be 85 temple events. For one character. 85 sequences of following a timer, wasted time waiting and spamming 1111 for what sometimes feel like an eternity (we all love bosses like Lyssa that turn invuln and teleport all the time. Right? Right?)
not disagreeing with any of that, it’s terrible, terrible design
it’s horrible to be sure, but there’s a bit of “woe is me, I’ll never have a pinku weapon” vibe sometimes
This is why I only do dungeons with friends/guildies. Bring the player, not the class.
except a player who plays bad builds is automatically a bad player
it’s not like you guys aren’t rolling in enough money to just buy the mats. I mean the whole ascended weapon update is terrible but don’t act like you couldn’t have had one the day after the patch

Nice, what trait setup would you recommend? I’d like to try mesmer or ranger next.
I roll 25/5/10/5/25 on warrior cause DON’T TELL ME WHAT TO DO, DAD
question: across all NA servers, has there ever been 3 power necros and 2 power rangers online at the same time? same question for EU
lol
are you saying I was asking for it, you victim-blamer?

I’m perfectly willing to waste my time demonstrating the L2P issues people have with TAFU, but one player doesn’t equal 4 other willing people.
And actually I didn’t imply that every party comp is as effective as any other. That would be ludicrous, as party comp is one of the pillars of organized dungeon play. But luny was insistent that engineers, rangers, and necros can have no place in a successful TAFU run, which is just false.
Tactics, Build, Party. Use all 3, and you burn the tree down in a flash and it looks like the easiest thing in the world. Plenty of videos are out there of groups dropping one of those pillars. Naked runs, 4-man runs, bad group comp runs, no reflect runs, etc etc etc.
But pugs won’t be satisfied until you demonstrate a completely fool-proof, path-of-least-resistance way to complete it, utilizing no tactics, no specific builds, and no specific party comp, because they’re too stupid, lazy, or bad at the game to even attempt to adopt those planks of successful dungeon play.
it’s too bad you don’t have any character slots to roll a guardian, mesmer, ranger, ele, or thief.
also don’t make me make a “forming an all classes group” video like I did last time this kitten was a big whiny crycry subject. I mean, I could probably form up an all necro-group in under 5 minutes.
Three rangers/two necros are a bad mix?
Uh, yes?
what the kitten is dun
but “the community” doesn’t want help on how to be better, they want their hands held and perhaps the lowest-effort-possible pathway to finishing difficult content. that’s why TAFU threads are full of people who refuse to use better tactics, run better builds, and assemble better team compositions.
Hm ok, but why?
you’re the one making the positive, unsubstantiated claim that we have to do something, burden of proof is on you buster
You don’t get a pristine for tier “0” of fractals. They start at 10.
I would like to agree, but we have to assume that maybe it is not what the developers intended and that they just cannot or do not want to fix it for the time being, because they have their own priority list. Hence the second factor.
we absolutely do not have to assume that
I agree for the spider but 1-4 in CoE is obvious glitching.
No, doing the old 3-in-1 path was obvious glitching. Multiple people can activate the panel at the same time, and multiple layers get bypassed if they do it successfully. It’s pretty obvious it’s an intended mechanic for teams who are able to defend properly.
that’s what the average reddit/champ farmer/gem store lover crowd doesn’t understand when they watch dungeon speedruns. It looks easy because those teams run on the knife’s edge for the whole thing. A successful skip of whatever trash section cuts down on time tremendously, when it’s successful. A good LoS pull/stack/knockdown/cleave on a group of Risen is an order of magnitude faster than dancing around kiting for minutes, but when it fails it fails hard. As a wise thinker once said:
Heavy risk…but the priiiiiize.
Living Story and time-gating everything is definitely killing this game for me. If I had known what state the game would be in now before I started, I would’t have wasted any money on this game. As it stands it’s still F2P for me at this point so I log in to create my own challenges, and try to ignore the LS super-casual crap as much as possible unless there’s some huge reward involved that I’d be crazy to pass up (gauntlet farming, invasion farming).
But it’s pretty pathetic that half of the game is still in beta state a year after release. How many class traits are still non-functional? How many high-value weapon and armor skins are still using the default white icons? How many tooltips are still inaccurate and/or missing crucial information?
Take a break from the Living Story crap for just a month and put two of those teams you have on actual, quality bugfix duty. Polish the parts of the game that have been pathetically broken since release. Make it feel like more than a beta test.
30/10/10/20 should be higher deeps if the rest of the party takes care of all the vuln though, right?
No, it’s hard-locked and not by lack of AR. You would need something like 900+ AR to survive Maw above level 48.
no raindrop believes it is to blame for the flood
Did you do that on purpose?
No, I was just kitten ed that I got that far and then screwed up. I did get it next shot though, first time on my guardian. And here I’ll save you the trouble
“wahhh you didn’t do it fast enough wahhh you messed up too many times wahhhh”
Does anyone have tips for how best to corral him in phase 1? Every time I try to push him to the wall he slowly gravitates towards that godkitten door to the right and then I have to pull him back away or else he’ll reset.
Also, kitten it.
<— full zerk ranger and full zerk necro, available to do it anytime
How many TAFU threads have ended with the OP taking advice and returning triumphant after adopting better party comps, builds, and tactics? One?
Burn GW2 to the ground, salt the earth so nothing else ever grows there.
Gotta love human nature. The same players that will follow a commander tag and mindlessly zerg for hours upon hours like lemmings (and think that is an example of good gameplay), shout “Don’t tread on me” in a dungeon run. Maybe the solution is to turn your commander tag on?
that is a very keen observation

ColinJohansonWe’ll be doing the same with the Gw2 explorable dungeons, our own internal testing teams and alpha test groups learned to beat them using a combination of player skill, synchronous builds, strong use of cross-profession combos, use of cooking/consumable buffs (these make a huge difference!) and well formed player tactics. By comparison, after having months to play the game and the time our alpha was complete, some of our better dungeon groups felt the explorable dungeons were too easy for launch, we decided not to make them any harder given the expected player skill on launch.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/dungeons/Do-NOT-nerf-please/first#post126835
Can anyone point out where Colin or any other dev ever said you’d be able to sleepwalk through DUNGEONS with any comp and any build you felt like.
ed: oh I forgot this from the same thread:
CJAs for the question about PuG’s for explorable dungeons, we’ve said all along that explorable dungeons are intended for highly organized/skilled groups of players. That is absolutely the case
(edited by Broadicea.8294)
Vevina is harder than the tree
We do try to run better group compositions, and do try to organize enough, but it’s harsh to tell a friend no you have to do it this way else we won’t take you along.
I’m trying not to extend that level of elitism to friends you see, so I’m looking at alternative strategies that might work first, before forcing everyone to do it one particular way.
This is clearly a trap so I forgive you if you don’t respond, but what is the normal group composition when you and your friends try to run this path?
A year after the game launched and Arah weapons still have white icons. The most prestigious dungeon rewards in the game.
Not to mention Asura T3 weapons as well…
Anet’s MO for issues like this is to ignore them until they go away. So, making it difficult to ignore is the way to go. It would be good to compile a list of the statements prior to the patch, as well as the patch notes, that stated implicitly or explicitly that SB magic find items would become account bound. Dev responses and ticket responses once the issue became apparent would be helpful too. Maybe a youtube video or two. Post threads in other forums, like the General forum, the Living Story forum, and other sites like reddit or gw2guru.
We should at a minimum get a response of “We’re sorry, it was our screwup.”
The guild wars 2 playerbase, ladies and gentlemen
Lie?
Other than the fact they forgot to mention choosing stats seems to soulbind the items, they’ve been right on about the MF changes.
And it was a lot better for me now compared to 2+ hours ago.
Nah several members of staff stated implicitly and explicitly that soulbound MF items would become account bound, and then that didn’t happen at all.
But back to the topic, anyone looking into this? It’s making the forums very hard to use. But hey I guess there’s no gem store profit in it, so we’ll have to wait til Otto the janitor gets around to it.
the trials and tribulations of asking for “zerk only” pugs in CoE
I know everyone on Youtube and here in the forums are speedrunners and are casually running Mes/Guard/3 War or FGS eles but I prefer not to ask my group specifically for that.
I just wanted to avoid frustrations by having to do a redo and run strategy 3 (range kiting). We’re not organized enough for strategy 1 (full melee w/ reflects) and not everyone is geared for it.
So you refuse to run better group compositions, you refuse to organize enough to chain reflections, you refuse to gear yourself properly. Tell me why you are entitled you 60 tokens again?
how can some people not realize how tragically kittening dorky they are
oh my god with the HMMMMM LOGIC! talk
