I tried Whirling Axe last time I went it and I still got clobbered by AoE. Could have been due to people not stacking perfectly on me though. I thought maybe WA is a ring-type area and you need dome-types (or wall-types that are tall enough) to truly protect you.
Does a traited Temporal Curtain reflect as well?
@Broadicea: I know. Thats actually the only reason why taking rangers into dungeons isn’t like “the worst” choice. Still, in AC you’re better adding an ele or a warrior (or a guardian for path 2), for arah you’re better adding a warrior (p1, 2, 4) and for TA, you probably want a thief, guardian or mesmer. Ranger sounds good in theory, practically you better first get perma 25 vuln and might without too much effort before thinking about a ranger buffs. Not to mention utility and overall effectivity.
Well they’d be filling a DPS slot, they wouldn’t be bumping something like guardian for TA or mesmer for Arah or even the ele for AC. But I agree with results more than anything else, and that would be a group-by-group basis. Personally I can’t stand taking mine into Arah because I feel useless on Lupi. But maybe that’s an L2P issue, who knows.
All this talk about dodging his shake move to avoid spawning spiders, did they fix the bug that happened to trigger all these TAFU threads where the spiders were already spawned before you even got into the room? Cause I remember dodging his shake to avoid spawning spiders back when I would go with pugs who would go just range him, but then some bug changed it so that tons of spiders were already spawned in the room and they would all aggro when you start attacking, rather than the old way where they only aggroed if you hit them.
If you learn where to keep your camera at the start? What does that sentence even mean?
The game automatically sets your camera to a preset angle at you enter the dome. You don’t have any control over where it starts. And there’s at least one dome that consistently sets your camera in a position where you can’t see the boss.
No it doesn’t, when you port in your camera is in the same position as it was when you were outside on the catwalk. You’re looking down in your screenshot because you were looking down at the dome before you went in. But a simple solution is to MOVE YOUR CAMERA when you get in. Even with the fix to the aggro radius, you still have roughly 2 seconds to target him and initiate your opening attacks (which in this case should be Dark Path) before he begins attacking. That’s more than enough time to move your camera and target him.
And you did say it was harder to farm on a necro, which I showed you was not true. You also said “our DPS is poor” and stated that necros can’t just stand in one spot and DPS him to death before he teleports, which I clearly do in my farm video.
All of your complaints about this boss on a necro, whether just killing him once, or farming him, come down to L2P issues.
See attachment for an illustration of the camera mechanics.

That’s my video. And it demonstrates that all of the problems you cited for necro are L2P issues, not deficiencies in the class. The class has deficiencies, but none of them impact the Deadeye farm.
Deadeye topic is a massive derail, so why don’t you have a seat over here…
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/livingworld/jubilee/Nerf-Deadeye-It-s-Boring-now/2658645
I see people easily farm this boss all day, but meanwhile I had the hardest time beating him on my necromancer (because we don’t have invincibility skills)…. ughhh…..
Yes, there clearly is a balance issue here. For some classes this boss is just way too easy to farm, while for others he is way too difficult in comparison.
Which does what exactly? I first have to either place a mark, or go into Death Shroud. Either way I’m dead before I can land a fear on him.
You have to get close to land a blind (or place a well), unless you rely on the Shadow Fiend. And we all know how reliable that guy is. Either way, he’ll hit you before you’re done placing that well…. if it doesn’t fail to cast of course, due to the thing canceling if you click out of reach. And you have to adjust the camera first too.
Our DPS is poor
I have tried the alternative builds. I managed to beat Deadeye, and it was a pain on a necromancer.
I eventually beat him using Flesh Wurm to teleport to the spot where I knew he would be, and then hitting him with Lich Form. But it still involves crossing the arena a few times. Not like any of the other classes that just stay in one place, and DPS him to death before he can teleport again. And that was my point, it’s a lot harder for a necro. It really is.
Target Closest doesn’t work.
This is the view I get at the start of every battle (see attachment below). If the enemies are off screen, target closest cannot target them. Especially if they also teleport behind you. I have to manually adjust the camera first, in order to be able to target the enemy to begin with. And when I do, he’s already lining up his first shot.
You can [adjust your camera], and then you’re dead. That was my first encounter with Liadri. You start with a camera angle where you can’t see the boss (see previous post). Then you have to manually adjust the camera to see the boss (fingers crossed that the boss has actually rendered yet, sometimes he starts invisible for a few seconds). While you’re doing that, you already get hit by an insta kill attack.
Nah I did the 5G with my guardian. I was just working on getting farmable methods down for every class, and Mad Queen over there was arguing that it was just straight up impossible on necro so I did this http://youtu.be/VNPRcYZAZVY
But yeah that was your build, which I’ve taken out for a spin to a few dungeons now. Not bad at all.
Edit: I just noticed I did 4 gambits there, not 3. Even better!
(edited by Broadicea.8294)
I don’t accept his ranger claims. Ranger is still a trash profession to take into many dungeons. Even though i enjoy playing ranger from time to time, bringing an other profession is almost always a better choice.
Ranger can bring just above HALF the DPS of any individual party member and Frost Spirit + Spotter end up being a party DPS boost over taking a different class.
As an aside, why didn’t you respond in the Deadeye Dunwell thread where you insisted the fight was impossible on necro post-patch? I posted a video of doing a simple, one-minute-repeatable farm with three four gambits.
(edited by Broadicea.8294)
Mad Queen doesn’t believe that you should ever fail a boss battle, it’s pretty much the underlying premise behind their arguments about GW2 boss design.
No it’s not. But I think “strawman” pretty much sums up your counter arguments. You are consistently and deliberately misrepresenting my arguments, because I suspect you are afraid to actually critically analyze the design of these bosses.
It’s all pretty clear.
To you. Did you find this out yourself, or did you look it up online? And did you understand what Lupicus was doing the first time you encountered him? If not, that is exactly my point.
This is an MMO with encounters designed to be played by different groups over and over and over again, for years. Knowledge of the encounters and tactics for trivializing it spread like a virus, from person to person as different people group up together and share their ideas in the game, and yes, on the internet as well. It’s a social game, with a few complex boss encounters that you could figure out on your own through repeated attempts, though the encounters become crystal clear much much quicker if someone in your group on or online explains them to you. There is nothing inherently wrong with that. You don’t have to completely understand, to the point of predictability, a complex boss the first time you fight him. That rule only seems to exist in Mad Queen’s playbook.
Looking at the Jade Maw, which you have called a good boss as opposed to Bad Boss Lupi, everything about the Maw is completely understandable and predictable the very first time you see it, which is why the chance of failure during that fight is virtually nil for the average players and why the entire encounter is boring as crap.
ah hell, now I know what tafu means
he’s got to come up with something now that people have accepted his ranger claims
Well done. You deserve it after taking the effort to adapt your strategy and keep trying, instead of giving up and being a poobutt baby on the forums. Congratulations^^
You realize that most of the complainers actually did attempt to adapt their strategy (and probably several times at that), right?
Hell, when I attempted it, my group was in there for about 2 hours and attempted about 10 different strategies, including the ones on the wiki. Nothing worked – why? Because the wiki page on the dungeon is crap and doesn’t even bother to discuss the specifics on the spider mechanic. How can one expect pug groups to reasonably complete this content (which as a low level dungeon was designed to be regular content) without all of the information available to them in either game animations or on the wiki?
The wiki is hosted by Anet but written by players. It is not an official instruction manual. It’s utter and complete kitten compared to the first game’s wiki, but if you want to fix that, edit something.
Mad Queen doesn’t believe that you should ever fail a boss battle, it’s pretty much the underlying premise behind their arguments about GW2 boss design.
This whole grub discussion, I mean… He has a very particular animation. A big green cloud surrounds the player. A few seconds later a grub spawns. His title says Consumes Grubs. The grub rushes towards him. He bends down and snatches the grub up. He then gains a stack of Empowered or whatever the buff is called.
It’s all pretty clear.
I guess you mean P1? Yea, there should be a closer WP, idk why there isn’t.
Because Anet programmers. Isn’t it something like the waypoint that should be in P1 is actually in P2 or P3?
Aww come on let’s do it again, I had a truly sick burn last time
Appreciate your posting Muffin and congratulations. I’ve been wondering if the 30/0 might be slowing me down when I do P2 solo and it looks like that might be correct. Maybe I’ll do better with a 30/25.
I really love the lodestone drops. I mean, it’s cool that they’re making them more accessible on the TP, but when I get them personally I just use them. When the patch hit I had only 2 of my characters in Scholar’s runes. By the end of the week I’ll have all 8 in runes.
feelsgoodman.
This event pretty much proves everything Anet said when they made the game has been a lie.
Nothing but grinding, gross imbalance allowing some classes to get a free pass while for others it’s extremely difficult- and even then, needing a very specific comp/gear/playstyle in order to even have a slight chance.
This event has gone away from ‘play as you want to’ as far as it can. That several classes in their testing group didn’t even manage to finish several of these bosses told them nothing should be enough to know where this game’s headed.
play how you want to play doesn’t mean you’ll be able to do everything in the game with no difficulty
I just went on my necro for the first time with a pug group of 3 GS-camping warriors and an ele. Of course they ranged so I didn’t get the chance for the full experience (chasing him around trying to melee is always a blast), but I’d say necros have it the roughest here with the lack of evasion moves and no access to vigor. Of course energy sigils would help that. As far as phase 3, I was able to save myself with a couple lucky spectral walks and flesh wurms. Aside from that, I don’t see much they can do for melee range if someone is dancing around causing bubbles. Death Shroud won’t save you at all.
Every other class has tons of outs.
I tried looking into the recipes for profiting from the sprockets but the margins are extremely slim.
If you’re solo on phase 3 and you dodge the aoe life drain but you know you’re not getting back in melee range in time, is it better to stand still and let him come to you, or will he walk over and bubble?
I always go to him.
Yeah of course that’s ideal, but like, if you took a second too long to start heading back in or something. I mean I usually try to swap to GS and whirlwind+dodge away to get outside the AoE, is Rush the best bet in that case to get back to him quickly?
If you’re solo on phase 3 and you dodge the aoe life drain but you know you’re not getting back in melee range in time, is it better to stand still and let him come to you, or will he walk over and bubble?
Echigoya, where have you hidden?
Form a res paty if you’re doing Liadri or whatever and take turns. Trust me, the farmer will leave.
The boss doesn’t need fixing but it did change a few patches ago due to a spider spawning bug. That’s why there are so many posts about it now.
C, and offer them 5 gold to go find another dome.
necro, 5g DED, back to back no downtime 13-17s fights
gib video pl0x
why deadeye’s killshot become so often and why it’s still unreflectable? That’s a projectile!
Not all projectiles are blockable. Deal with it.
That’s because warriors were taking advantage of a buggy aggro mechanic by standing at the edge of the arena and waiting for his first teleport. Zero risk, zero skill, tons of reward. That deserved a fix, full stop.
Also you still should be able to do 3 gambits on a warrior just fine. But you know, skill and all.
wtf I have to have a brain now, this goes against Play How You Want to Play, Anet
I made about -3 Gold (for the tickets) trying to kill him with 3/4/5 gambits on my Guardian, Mesmer and Necromancer (after the patch, meh ~). Don’t have a thief, engi or zerker warrior… bad luck for me ^^
Necro can do 3 gambits pretty easily. Of course Guardians are lolmode.
Seeing a thief active at deadeye made me realize…I gotta get me a thief!
It sucks that Thieves can’t make use of all of their flat damage modifiers in this fight or they’d be able to down him faster than Guardians. As far as I can tell, no one can do it faster than a maxed out deeps Guardian, which is nice cause that allows other people to fit into your rotation. I think even two Thieves will stomp on each other’s cooldowns. But if I had a guaranteed arena to myself for an hour, Thief is the way to go.
I love when people from the class subforums wander into the dungeon forum
all wide eyed, all full of hope and moxie, all believing in themselves
Ranger can still do 3 gambits fine. Dead after first TP.
POSTING IN A TA F/U THREAD
My eviscerate is always the last one
the audio always makes me laugh
SCHING! SCHING!SCHING!………………………………………………….SCHING!
Yeah. Whereas a necro in full zerk still has like 19K HP. Same room for error as Warriors.
My Youtube channel will always maintain a G rating.
rated G for GANGSTA
yeah the only difference is now it takes a modicum of skill, since you can’t cheese the aggro radius anymore.
What’s the deal with the combatlog being open. I don’t get it.
if I’m not on combat log I’d have the party/guild chat window open, and then I’d have to censor out the window for privacy’s sake. saves me a couple steps rendering the video
All the best conversations are had in guild chat, I always get upset when my beautiful words of wisdom are censored out. Especially when I’m discussing important matters including tentacles and fornication T_T
Trying to keep my youtube channel PG-13
>powermancer
>knight’s

Do it on Subject 7, much easier and should be a piece of cake for zerk Ranger. Use Path of Scars to pull him away from the other oozes once he’s low, and I’d save Quickening Zephyr for the last 20% or so.
Arah P1 is one of the fastest, easiest dungeons in the game and also has one of the highest rewards. Don’t tell anyone, though, or Anet might nerf it.
How fast is it, Guang. Tell us.
330G when the patch hit, 540G now, but I’ve made 2 more sets of Scholar’s runes and bought some inventory slot expansions, some bank tab expansions, bought some more sets of armor, etc. Probably would be at 620G or so without having splurged.
Nemesis is horrible. Use Spoj’s build. I just took it through TA and CoE and it was fine. Just be careful with your wells when you have an ele. Conversely, you can treat it as a race to see who can put down fields first and then laugh at all the Area Blindness that comes up. Great class for trolling your team. The vuln stacking and aoe blind well for LoS pulls is pretty decent, but the lack of any other party boons means that the best you can really hope for is not to slow your party down over another class. You occupy the generic DPS slot.
Spoj: Is Unyielding Blast (Soul Reaping VI) really worth it? If you’re just flashing DS on cooldown, you wouldn’t be using Life Blast at all right?
(edited by Broadicea.8294)
I saw a guardian today, he killed deadeye in less than 10 seconds.
As far as I can tell Guardians have always killed him the fastest, but with average downtime. Thieves do it slower but with almost no downtime depending on what you roll with.
Does anyone know if there’s a way to not have him put that Spotted debuff on you as a thief? I notice on my guard that it gets reflected back onto him, so maybe it’s part of a projectile attack? If you can go in with Smokescreen and maybe Signet of Shadows for the on-demand blind, you could take Dagger/Dagger and probably finish him off as quick as Gaurdians.
