Fate is just the weight of circumstances
That’s the way that lady luck dances
Buried Chests in Dry Top give these (as do the story missions). I got 20 Dragonite in a chest this morning…..
Wow…I had no idea you could actually buy these in game….Thanks!
It’s not a reward if I don’t want it.
……
I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a more self-centered and twisted bit of logic on display here…..BRAVO!
(This is definitely a “Quote of the Month” candidate….)
Hell, I’M so old that I remember a time where you had to program your OWN games from a book because floppy discs and cassettes weren’t reliable enough to store data on yet.
Gotcha beat. Programmed my first computer course with Punchcards….luckily only for one semester. On a side note, it definitely encouraged tight code.
How would you do hard mode on an open world? How would one actually prevent ALL the players in that open area from being swept in your hard mode run? It is impossible to do in open world PvE game.
Nonsense. You instance EVERY map with a NORMAL and HARD mode instance that you choose (if you are level 80) when you enter the zone. It doubles the number of maps that must be maintained, but guess what….MegaServer just did the exact opposite (if not more than half the number being maintained) …..that’s a very interesting coincidence, don’t you think?
I’ve always thought one of the main reasons MegaServer has been put in place is for this eventuality in Anet’s long term plan (some form of HARD mode that requires a drastic increase in zone quantity).
On the downside, it will further fragment the community and possibly make Normal zones much less active, but that’s not much worse than how it was before MegaServer anyway.
Note that all of the above is pure speculation on my part.

I’m pretty sure I have opened Frostgorge early in the morning (6AM) and then late that same night (10PM, well after my reset of 7PM) closer to 12 hours than 24. It could have changed and I may be mistaken. Will test this weekend.
I still contend it is some combination of a timer AND the daily reset (but that just may be my perception and some incorrect information I heard in the past).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
I was running Buried Chests this morning and hit one that gave me 20 Dragonite. Now I realize many players have a glut of Dragonite and would say think it was a crap reward, but my first thought was, “Yowza! Zero Reward my foot!”, as I need Dragonite for my Ascended weaponry plans.
I think the complaint that you are currently dissatisfied with the rewards you get for exploration is valid, but the claim that it is a “zero reward” is pure exaggerated propaganda and another undeserved spit in the Dev’s face.
Everyone that posts here should understand that when you exaggerate claims and complaints beyond reasonable truth, everything you state becomes questionable to the reasonable people that read it. I get that some just want to garner support from other like minded Anet-haters (these forums have there share of these), but if you truly want anyone to give your ideas any kind of reasonable consideration, being blatantly inaccurate and untruthful (for whatever reason) is not the way to do it.
It’s not about whether the rewards are good or bad. It’s about knowing in advance that there is not going to be any reward for your discoveries, or for beating that hidden veteran in a cave.
If you don’t feel that you will be rewarded, this takes away from the desire to explore the world.
If your desire for rewards overshadows your desire to just play and explore, you should re-examine why you are playing. The NOT KNOWING is part of the enjoyment for some. I’m not saying any of these ideas are bad or that there is not room to improve the current system (there certainly is), but if rewards are your sole motivation to perform a given task, it sounds more like work than a game to me.

If this is something they are planning to introduce (and I would personally LOVE this stat combo now that I looked it up……VITALITY, Power, Precision for those unfamiliar), I doubt they will make any sort of comment about it here. It will likely just show up in a content release (but I doubt it would be very soon as the Nomad stats were only recently introduced).
Anet just does not “leak” info like that. You might see it mentioned on an MMO website a few days before the release, at best.
Sorry to say, but it’s pretty obvious ANet does not consider the RP community large enough to focus specific content for (and I’m not saying they are right or wrong in that choice). If Anet wanted to support RP, they would make some RP specific city servers to support them (not saying they never will do this either).
The idea that actual development resources would be used to provide content that ONLY RPers would find useful is kind of cute…..and goes right along with the general idea of Role Playing. Self-delusional fantasy (and I’m not trying to be mean and imply RPing does not have it’s place in this game).
Build-able Guild Halls I would get behind, but personal housing just serves no purpose beyond some Role Play aspects. Sorry to say, the Role Play audience is not large enough to justify the level of resources this request would require.
There are plenty of other games that let you build stuff (Minecraft, Sims, Simcity, even Skyrim).
I know this sound a bit bizaar, but reseat your video card. You could have bumped it in the rearrangement process and it is not seated well.
You should reinstall the game and then cancel the download when it starts (not the client update, but when the bar appears at the bottom and starts to fill up).
You can then Copy the GW2.DAT file from your moved copy to the new installation folder (just overwrite the existing GW2.DAT in that folder). I’m not sure of the details but there should be a Guild Wars 2 folder in your Program Files (x86) folder but I’m not sure where Win 8.1 puts a new GW2 installation. Keep in mind that there could be some permission issues with that folder and your current logged in user.
Then when you restart the client it should automatically check the new file and only download anything it finds corrupt or any new updates.
Good luck!

The only program that is running at the time is GW2, which is why this entry is labeled memory leak issues.
You do understand that if GW2 had an actual memory leak EVERYONE running it would see some sort of memory related issues, right? Thus your implication that this is a memory leak issue is simply not possible. Get over that idea and move on to actually fixing what is causing this issue on YOUR system configuration.
abomally.2694, is 100% right when stating your system report is showing a HUGE amount of RAM being used for some unknown reason and that needs to be isolated and corrected. Make no mistake, you will run into this problem with other games as at some point in the future, so your best bet is to put in the effort now to correct it.

How are you checking your “ping” when none of the Anet servers will respond to the “ping” command? Your claim of a 30ms ping to an internet server is pretty unbelievable as well.
If it was Server Lag EVERYONE connected to that map would be experiencing it as well. I’m not saying that kind of thing does not happen occasionally, but it is NOT a constant situation or even remotely often enough to be considered “unplayable” (at least not by any significant number of players).
Level 3 does not route ALL Anet traffic thru Europe intentionally. I have seen instances where this happens for specific connections and that is likely due to some configuration issues with your particular ISPs traffic (and yes, you should report it to your ISP so it gets fixed).
…..
Engineer is lackluster, and needs to be revamped.
I find it difficult to believe you have played any amount of time (or build variation) on an Engineer if you have that opinion. Basing you opinons on other’s “experiences” or your limited ones makes it an uniformed one. Can Engineer be improved? Of course, all professions could use some “fine tuning”, but the class being “lackluster” is likely more you ‘feelings" about their play-style (that you don’t enjoy) than their actual current state in the game (and you opinion is certainly valid….for you).
If Arenanet hadn’t abandoned it years ago I would still be playing it. Now I play neither.
Moving on to publish a new game after 7 years is hardly abandoning it. If they had shut down the servers, then your “complaint” would be valid, but it simply appears that your are not playing a game you love, because of some illogical vendetta against Anet (or some other reason you don’t want to relate because it would lessen your one liner attack at Anet).
As stated above, if you love(d) GW1 so much, go play it. If this entire 8 page thread is designed to change someone at Anet’s idea of how GW2 should be “changed” to become a true GW1 “successor”, I’d say it was started about 3 or 4 years too late. Move on.

I bought 1500 Obsidian Shards for my r500 crafting.
That seems to be WAY too many for just Ascended crafting…..
There are champs the DO NOT EVER drop anything.
Bad design!!!!!
Example?
I would not be surprised if it has some RNG or rotating components that change. Since it is strictly Server side it can be changed without a client update (tho it would likely require the entire zone to respawn to become active). Note that with MegaServer, it is now likely much easier to “retire” zones so Server side code can update.
The last thing Anet wants is bot farms figuring out how it works thru long term data collection, so if they are smart they constantly change it.
Most of the chests reset at daily reset but some of them are on 24 hours.
Not to call you out, but what proof do you have for this statement? If you have a specific chest you KNOW does this, I’ll be happy to test it. Also, note that there is a minimum timer on ALL resource nodes and chests. You cannot open a chest 5 min before daily reset and then open it again right after. I believe that timer is either 8 hours or 12 hours for JP chests (never tested directly) and you COULD be correct that different chests have different min timers (like T6 nodes have much longer min timers than other resource nodes).
I’ll…reverse (double secret?)…not…call you out?
Note that my comment was meant to challenge your claim that some of them were 24 hour resets not Daily. Sorry for the confusion. Again, if you KNOW of a specific chest that is 24 hour reset ONLY, please post it here and I’ll test (as long as it’s not some obsure hard as hell JP I never do because a missed jump means starting all over (like say the Aetherblade one)).
It’s sad to see how a few people always try to destroy these sort of threads. That because of a lack of constructive arguments.
Mounts add things to the game.
Collecting them is a game-play by itself (when it’s not just cash-shop stuff or gold-grind).
Maybe you can even feed. train and tame them.
Then it makes the world more immersion and fun then loading screens do and makes the world feel bigger. There are many pro’s to mounts.
Sorry, but the Monty Python references are far more interesting and is much more likely to show up in the game than an actual Mount.
…..To purchase a Legendary, someone had to craft it with the precursor, which he looted or bought from someone who looted it, therefore RNG is involved in the making of EVERY Legendary.
You’re just being obtuse rather than admit there is an option that does not depend on YOUR RNG…..it’s impossible to have an intelligent conversation in this place.
(BTW, I was not questioning your statement about games needing RNG in general).
The suggestion that the game should be designed to give out rewards based entirely on what players want would pretty much make the “game” a free giveaway website….kind of an idiotic suggestion.
…..waste time waiting for the sandstorms, which can’t be controlled or known when they appear. And then after all that, you have to rely luck by opening chests.
If you spent a bit of time researching you might KNOW that the Sandstorms ALWAYS have started every :40 on the hour and last til the top of the hour. You complaining about how this process has no guarantee of reward is just bunk…you get plenty of rewards….maybe just not the one you WANT. BIG difference.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
….Guild Wars 2 is barely open world. Every zone is instanced.
Not sure I am aware of a game that doesn’t have SOME sort of limitation on how many players can be present in an area at one time. I’m not an MMO expert, but if there is, they are using either Alien Computer technology or are just good at fooling everyone.
It’s not technically possible to have hundreds of thousands of players connected to the same “world” at once. I think EVE does a fairly good job (from what I understand, never played it), but from my understanding it’s just a good illusion, not impossible network technology.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
……
and the GW1 population gets smaller…..As a percentage of total? I don’t see this getting “smaller” in terms of actual numbers. GW1 players are likely the ones to continue playing for years to come. Even if they are not active now, an expansion or full on revamp to some critical aspect of the game could easily get them back. The great thing about this game is you can not play it for years and still return.
This won’t happen though. Anet already stated that there will be no more updates to GW1. It’s already in maintenance mode. I wouldn’t be surprised if GW1 support is only 1 person keeping it running.
I guess I was not clear….I was talking about GW1 players currently playing GW2 (and a potential GW2 expansion).
Okay obviously you’re not understanding so I’ll try one more time. Guild Wars 1 players were told there would be an upgrade. It was going to be called Utopia. That was what we were told we would get. Anet scrapped Utopia, the upgrade we actually wanted, to make Guild Wars 2. HAD we gotten Utopia, we’d have new content and everything we worked for. Anet STOPPED upgrading the game we were playing to make this game. No expansions for five years. Five years. And none ever again.
Are you intentionally misrepresenting what happened to bad mouth Anet or do you seriously believe this fantasy actually happened? Utopia was a project name they used for a small time while they considered doing a GW 1.5 type upgrade before the decided on doing the EotN expasion. There was NEVER any press releases, announcements or promises made to anyone about it. All the few mentions of it happened between Nightfall and EotN. EotN was PLANNED to transition into GW2 from the start.
There is enough FUD on these forums already, I’m surprised you would add to it.
On one side we have an exaggerated claim of GW1 requiring a pHD to play and on the other we have exaggeration that GW2 is nothing but DPS. Somewhere between those 2 outrageous claims is the truth. Gw1 became far too complex to be appealing to a more casual player and GW2 is a bit too simplistic to engage a hardcore build tinkerer. IMO, I think Anet has done a pretty good job making GW2 available to a wider audience (their obvious goal).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Credentials are the same. Keep in mind when you log in to the game, it lists the log in as your “account name” when that is actually your associated email address (Anet calls that your account name). This is 98% of the time the issue with logging in if you are able to get into the website.
Most likely cause is your email account is hacked. If an email from YOUR email account connected to GW2 comes into support requesting a password change, they assume it is legit and change the password. The hacker can easily cover their tracks in your email account so you never realize they are talking to GW Support. The hacker will likely do everything possible to make sure you don’t realize they have hacked your email.
Change your email password and consider abandoning that email account entirely. Most email providers allow some sort of indication if who has connected to your email account recently (so you can look for a hack), but I’m not 100% sure I would trust this information (my Yahoo run account was hacked (I have proof of it from Anet support) and their tools did not indicate any hacking).
BTW, if you have ever gotten a “How was your Anet Support experience?” email, (and you haven’t recently opened a ticket yourself) that is a sure sign something is up and it’s likely your email hacked.

As mentioned slightly, maybe Pale Tree is really Morde’s (unwilling) Champion….like Glint was Kalyx’s?
At least this thread is asking for a solution and not just moaning about how unfair RNG is. I agree some other alternative needs to be introduced (eventually).
If you were the Pale Tree would you let just any Silvari Trot up to your Chamber after hearing about Scarlet (and now Aren)? I think Security just might be a bit tighter since you visited her last…..
Granted, you are Trahern’s right hand, but the situation has certainly changed since you both went after Zhiatan.
You can also get the recipes from dry top chests (I’m guessing that’s where they are coming from as I have a few and have certainly never bought any). Not sure if the Insription, Insignia, Jewel ones drop from chests, but the armor pieces and weapon ones do.
I feel for those that are trying (too hard, IMO) to obtain these. If you seriously have kept a count of the # of chests, you might want to re-evaluate WHY you are playing the game to begin with…..not trying to be mean, just saying.
I have no idea how many I have opened and I have one bug in my bank (and I think I may have another on an Alt somewhere). The skins don’t interest me, so like others here, I wish I could get them (in some way) to another player.
If this only happens during certain hours, it may be your ISP is throttling your connection on a timed basis. Throttling can appear to be very short spurts of lag that are difficult to identify as other applications may not require near real time data to work properly. The only way to correct this is contact your ISP and request to NOT be throttled (not saying they will do it, but usually an ISP will throttle by default and hope the consumer is just blissfully unaware they are sneakily limiting bandwidth.
It could also be some sort of connection issue within your own network (typically possible if your system is connected with WiFi but not limited to that). It’s also possible that your small little bits of lag are the WiFi or network on your end getting saturated by other potential traffic. Is someone else on the WiFi streaming video or downloading large content?

You need to repair your GW2.DAT file. Look for the -repair option on this page:
The poor optimization is mostly due to heavy dependence on older Direct X 9 on the Client end. Short of updating EVERYTHING to use a newer version of Direct X (a HUGE under taking that would alienating those players that do not have Direct X 10 or higher capable hardware), there is not much that can be done and maintain neutrality between GPU hardware. There is plenty that could be done to optimize for NVidea or ATI hardware, but that would alienate players in the other camp.
The choice to use older Direct X is due to the desire to support older hardware and maintain a wider player base. It’s actually a smart economic decision that puts players with more advanced hardware available to them asking these questions. The answer is less about anyone being lazy or lacking resources to do the work, but not changing the basic hardware requirements 2 years after release.
You guys are arguing performance issues and that is NOT the main reason it won’t happen…..let it go.
Mounts won’t happen because they don’t have the resources to do what they are currently doing AND put in Mounts….it’s pretty simple.
Introducing mounts will bring all the whiny WoW kiddies over to GW2….
Didn’t consider this but beyond the joke, this is actually a reason that might may Anet actually consider the request, so icksnay on the WoWsay Kidsayes.
Any graphics optimization would require them to go to specific hardware optimization (Nvidea or ATI) or upgrade DirectX versions….neither is gong to happen either.

If you are too lazy to dodge, please DON’T play anywhere around me.
This speculation is pointless. You MIGHT be able to come close to figuring out how many active accounts exist, but that’s it. A FULL server could theoretically have NO players actually logging in and playing.
Anet will likely never provide any hard numbers beyond sales figures for Marketing purposes. No other MMO company does this either (and would you actually TRUST any numbers they put out?).
EotM is based on color in their tier. For example, if Dragonbrand and Blackgate were both red they would be on the same team. But this is very random.
I looked this up and realized my mistake. Did not realize how the EotM matchups worked.
There are condi warriors and burst warriors. And tanks. But forget them. Why can’t there be a hybrid that functions just as well?
Because of simple addition and the fact that you have limited pool of stats for a set of gear.
Specializing is NOT always better than spreading your stats around (a bit), but it is the only way to get MAX anything (and that is what the OP was asking for). The only mode in the game that requires MAX DPS is Dungeon speed runs.
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Note that if they are in fact getting hit with a DDoS, taking the log in servers off line for bit may be required to remedy the situation.
AMD cpus are bash often in the forums.
Might have a lot to do with them not performing very well with this particular game….maybe?
Right after the Wardrobe release, I opened 10 BL chests and got 8 scraps….it’s just RNG luck…..
…..
3. Wait for Anet to implement precursor crafting? Whenever that will be?
I doubt you will EVER be able to craft the current precursors….they will be new ones.
Opening more chests, however, does not guarantee getting a fossilize insect.
No, but I think we are all well aware that NOT opening ONE more chest is absolutely a guaranteed way to NOT get another one…..THAT’s my point.
You can’t have a game without RNG, but it should not be a factor in acquiring significant end-game goals (In this case, legendaries).
Why not? I would seriously like to hear your reasoning behind the logic that led you to this belief. (BTW, you can actually obtain a Legendary within minutes of completing the the tutorial if you have the gold to purchase one, so RNG is NOT the only factor).

“IT!”
/youknowwhy
This is why I hope that they add region achievements to older zones in the future, among other stuff to make them more lively.
GW2 Hardmode incoming! I suspect the MegaServer changes is the first step toward this eventually being introduced.
It doesn’t have to be that way. I mean look at Star Citizen. Robertson’s initial goal was what, 500k in crowdfunding? It’s now at about 50 million. And space sims aren’t exactly mainstream.
All I’m saying is there are ways around the “meta” for bankrolling these games. I have no idea if SC will be any good, but the amount of people willing to throw money at a game that doesn’t(seem to) cater to greedy investors should tell you something.
There’s always a choice, even if that choice is don’t play any of them.
So you think if Chris Roberts (not Reobertson…) name wasn’t on this thing it would have been successful at all? There are a LOT of well off video gamers that cut their teeth on Wing Commander and kind of worship the guy (even after that horrid Movie he got talked into). I loved the series, but I’m not giving the guy $100 up front….
I hate to break it to you but if it comes down to keeping PvP in balance and making your CD Necro awesome in the World Boss Train, PvP balance is gonna take priority……PERIOD. It has NOTHING to do with what “people here” are “concerned” about.
I hate to break it to you this way but: You ARE being overly concerned with PvP balance. You’re straight up not comprehending my suggestion to that issue.
I comprehend just fine and in fact I think I STARTED the suggestion that they differentiate the mechanic for specific targets in PvE and WvW (did you even read my previous posts?).
My comment was that you CAN NOT disregard PvP concerns just because you say you want to not talk about them. I get that you are proposing a change that would not include PvP, but my comment was a general statement about how ANET would prioritize balance in PvP vs making Condition Damage viable against single targets in PvE. I was NOT saying the proposed changes were not worth considering, just how Anet would approach any conflicts they found between PvP and PvE in general. PvP balance would win any possible conflict of interest is all I was stating.
While all the above proposals have some interesting aspects, Anet is NOT going to totally revamp the weapon system to fix a single aspect of the game for Condition Damage builds. You guys vastly overestimate the severity of this issue to the general payer base if you think those proposals are viable (in terms of resources to implement,, not from a technical game-play perspective).
(edited by Brother Grimm.5176)
Can you… edit your post so you use grammatically correct writing? I’d say I stopped reading at the first sentence, but your entire post is a single sentence.
Please. Not everyone has English as a first language. I completely understood what the OP was saying.
While I agree with the fist statement and sentiment, the OPs post is painful and difficult to comprehend.
….
Getting a bug is pure luck. There is nothing I can do to improve my odds of getting one. That is somewhat unique in GW2.
While there might be nothing you can do to improve your odds on any SINGLE buried chest opening, there is plenty you can do to increase your chances to actually obtain one…..like opening more chests.
While the debate on RNG vs player “feelings” rages on, the fact that RNG keeps players IN the game is kind of the point from Anet’s perspective. Looking at this from ONLY the position of what makes a good game for the players is kind of pointless as NO company is ever going to make a game with that singular goal in mind.

Season 2 Living story brought me back to Guild Wars 2, because how they are conducting the season 2 this time around. Other than expansion pack, all the other stuff listed in the original post would not have brought me back.
In the words of Vayne,
You are one person. You do not represent the many, and there are many others that are not like you…therefor whatever you say is not fact.
I would say everything he posted was FACT. His post was simply a synopsis of his personal experience in regard to the new content. I don’t see where he made the claim “since I feel this way, everyone else must too!”, you seem to imply his post states.
Along those lines, I would say ALL evidence I have seen DOES point to many old players returning despite what Living Story Haters want everyone to believe. The OP stating it will not does not make it FACT either.
