To raise cooking I simply pull up a list of recipes, find the items around my current level and start discovering with the ingredients I have already collected (gather at every node I see and can get to reasonably).

Candy-Corn Crusher

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

I saw some others complaining about this the other day and these were the guys running from the candy bombs, using a bow the whole time and being downed most of the encounter. There IS a minimum amount of damage you need to do to get credit for the kill. Here are a few things to keep in mind when asking yourself if you are doing enough damage.

  1. Viscount has an IMMENSE amount of HP if even a few players are present.
  2. The more players nearby, the more Viscount HP increases (scales up).
  3. Viscount has built in damage reduction that is nearly double normal protection mode (he takes about 1/3 damage than you would normally cause). You can negate this by becoming “candy coated” by standing in the pink candy puddles (this also makes you immune to his candy corn bombs).
  4. If you are down, you are not damaging him.
  5. If you are fighting others enemies, you are not damaging him.
  6. If you are standing there waiting for Torment to end, you are not damaging him.
  7. If you are trying to hide from his candy corn bomb tosses, you are not damaging him.
  8. If you are low level, only your HP scale up to 80. Your weapons and skills are likely doing little more than tickling him. I know it’s difficult to see in all that visual chaos, but if you are not putting up hundreds (if not thousands) of HP of damage on each strike, you damage just might not be good enough at your current equipment level.

Given all those above, you DO Have to meet a certain percentage requirement of damage (I have NO idea what that number is) in order to be considered contributing to killing him. If you are used to shooting at Claw of Jormag 10 times and hanging back to get the chest….that strategy is NOT going to work here.

I am in no way implying that is what is going on here (there could certainly be some sort of bug), but if you have even the slightest doubt you applied enough damage to count as killing him, then that’s most likely the reason you didn’t get credit.

Infinite Watchknight Tonic CD !!

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

Those all came out for 6 year birthday presents…..(so for 6 years MOST ALL tonics ONLY worked in towns).

Why would you NEED to be in tonic form in an exploitable area? I get that it is a “thing” but totally unnecessary for a game play standpoint. Big whup if it gets stripped. As I recall, these tonics could cause all kinds of confusion as they altered the player’s NAME and caused the actual HEROs and HENCHMEN to get generic names….I know Monks HATED those things when they came out.

elshazar is correct, this is NOT a bug and of all the things in this game that may NEED fixing this one would be WAY WAY WAY down the list if it needs fixing at all (I don’t think it does).

i5 vs i7

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

An i7 is only beneficial if you are running high end CAD, imaging or video rendering (any application that runs continual floating point computations for an extended period of time). GW2 does NOT fall into that category (majority of display calculations for games are done via the GPU). A Gaming rig does NOT need an i7….now if you render a lot of video or do a lot of 3D modeling or image work, an i7 would save a lot of time (tho an i5 CAN do those operations…..it would just take longer).

My i5-2500K runs the game just fine and the newer Haswell i5 series would work even better (at a much lower power consumption). Gaming rigs

Jormag Pre-event bug

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

This was happening to me this morning (Yak’s Bend) prior to ANY events in the area being active (the “all is quiet” message was up). I was just gathering in the area and myself and another player kept getting hit with them. I put in a report and posted here asking about it.

Seems that there is some issue that causes those conditions to apply to random players in the vicinity of the Claw battle despite the actual status of the Claw events. It’s been seen (and reported) on numerous servers over the past month…..it does NOT appear to be directly related to the most recent patch.

Infinite Watchknight Tonic CD !!

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

Pretty sure they are NOT going to remove the CD on this item (they already reduced it once). This item has NOT comparable to GW1 tonics as they ONLY worked in towns. They obviously do NOT want a multitude of identical looking fembots in all zones in the game (and I personally thank them for that). It’s a nice novelty item, but should not allow any player to become a permanent Watchknight.

BTW, the “infinte” in the name means it has unlimited uses….not unlimited duration.

September 3 change to Karma permanent?

Bravo!….screaming at the sky with shaking fists of rage might make you feel better, but you won’t get Laurels back like that.

Your only hope is to issue a support ticket (and I wouldn’t suggest holding your breath on a positive answer).

As mentioned above this was done in an update …. and reversed (with karma returned to MANY players) due to original outrage. Then it was announced (via posts here and several other placed) that it would be a permanent change in another update to take place in a few weeks (so players could boost and use existing containers). Anet gave everyone ample opportunity to NOT get in the situation you currently find yourself.

How to take action against bad people?

in Players Helping Players

I am griefed every time I say I am a Ranger – 99% will ask me if I ‘have another character’.

The sheer meanness of some people who want to control others is just getting awful.

You do realize they have a legit reason to have doubts about taking a Ranger into a Dungeon area, right? Dead Pets do not make for an optimum group and even the BEST Ranger player will agree it’s a disadvantage to the overall group effort.

That being the case, I also play a Ranger, so I know the grief you are speaking of but it’s much less the “controlling” attitude (I just ignore that) than the rudeness and mean spirited comments that are totally unnecessary. There are far to many players out there that equate being uncompromising in who and how you will play to having no time for ANY form of manners at all. Not having time to be nice does not mean you NEED to be rude.

Just want to point out, hopefully an anet’er reads, it’s harder to report someone when your party chat is wiped out when you leave a party (get kicked out).

I find it an annoying detail that for over a year has not been addressed.

This is a very valid point. I don’t think you can attach an existing screenshot to the report either (you have to generate the screenshot WHILE the report window is opened (or did I just dream that shortfall of the report system?)).

I agree that particular one is PitA, but it’s certainly not impossible to solo. You do realize that you CAN jump past the gate from the higher areas if you take the right angle (you don’t HAVE to go all the way to the top to open that one gate)? The jumps a bit tricky but that shaves off a LOT of fighting.

My necro is very squishy

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

BTW, a Necro SHOULD be squishy, but there are plenty of things available to mitigate that fact.

  1. Your Death Shroud is a complete new HP bar….use it intelligently and it will reduce your “squishyness” a bunch.
  2. You don’t have to run a FULL minion build…..I just use Flesh Golem Elite when roaming and he draws enough enemy fire (and deals decent damage with a knockdown skill for Vets). Of course more minions WILL give the enemies more targets and keep you alive much longer.
  3. Don’t completely ignore trait lines that give Toughness or Vitality bonuses and don’t ignore equipment that adds to those either. I’m not saying all you armor should increase survival stats, but a few pieces (or gems to add those stats to a few), are a good way to slightly increase the number of hits it takes for you to keep on your feet.
  4. KEEP MOVING and DODGE (when needed)! The best way to NOT go down is to NOT get damaged in the first place. I see far to many new players (or ones coming from other MMOs, not realize just how important it is to keep moving and NOT get hit by enemies. Active avoidance of damage is a MUST for GW2…..there are NO Tanks. Necros have a distinct issue with Endurance regen (thus Dodging), so the dodges you have should be used intelligently.

Hope these tips help you.

BTW, I find the Power/Crit build to be very single target oriented, so I have no idea how should be better with multiple targets…..the secret to taking on many targets in a Cond build is to exploit the known AI movement tendencies, use natural choke points to your advantage and switch targets to spread the conditions around to so ALL your enemies are degenerating massive damage while you avoid their attacks…..they will ALL be dead rather quickly. I guess it may be slower than spiking down one target at a time, but I find that method VERY boring on a caster class (and I get plenty of that type of game play from my Thief and Warrior). It IS all about personal preference.

Issue with Claw event since last update?

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Brother Grimm.5176

Brother Grimm.5176

I posted a thread in the Bug forum (tho I’m not SURE the event is bugged):

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Claw-of-Jormag-or-Frigid-condition-bugged/first#post3049642

Seeing some strange stuff in Frostgorge (Yak’s Bend) this morning (and everything seemed fine about 8 hours ago).

  1. The area near where 1st stage of Claw battle happens is randomly generating the FEAR and “FRIGID whatever” condition when roaming the area….and the Claw event is NOT active (that I can tell)
  2. I do not recall any Claw events since the last update. Granted, I have not been running it as regularly with 5 or so characters over the past few days, but I think I have been there enough so that I should have been able to participate in at least one Claw event in that time.
  3. Champ train (running with very few last night) was not present that I could find. Nobody responded to my map chat and when I traveled to Drakkar there was no banner, only a few AFK players standing there and I could easily spot 3 Champs in the area that were actively roaming in their normal pattern (as if they had been in map for quite a while). It was rather early (6AM CST US), but this is the first time I have been in Frostgorge since the Champ Chest change and not seen SOME sort of Champ Train running.

Obviously everyone could be farming Labyrinth (Scarlet Invasions did interrupt the regular trains for a while) or just not in Frostgorge if the Claw event IS in some way bugged there.

Has anyone else seen anything strange in Frosgorge since last update or could this just be my server (Yak’s Bend)? I did send a bug report about the Comditions being applied when Claw event did not appear to be active.

Since the traffic over in the Game Bug forum is not that high (and this IS related to a Dynamic Event), I wanted to post here for any potential feedback.

Thanks!

Leveling quickly shouldn’t ruin my experience i hope.
…….

Sorry but it will. On your first character, it is less about how FAST you level, but in what manner. Intentionally leveling via crafting (again, for your first character) is a BAD idea. I’m not saying a few levels of crafting along the way is terrible, but you should explore the zones and complete hearts, and visit the vistas, skill points and points of interest if for nothing more than seeing the vast world of Tyria. Sure you can go back to the lower level areas at 80, but the experience is certainly NOT the same.

Certainly play how you want, but remember that I cautioned you.

Yeah, I know GWnodes.com is updated by players and can be a PitA to keep 100% accurate during update periods. It also doesn’t help that the map overlay itself seems to be a tad buggy and I often have to reload the page several times to get a valid display (the site DOES say BETA all over it, so I’m not complaining…..it’s a highly useful resource in general).

I’m not exactly sure of the resupply timing, but I have noticed that T6 nodes seem to take longer to resupply than the lower tiers. I’ve seen plenty of other players indicate the same observations.

If the chest appears for you to see, you can always “open” it. It is possible that the graphic will NOT update to indicate the chest is opened (due to the massive number of players you are currently viewing), but you should see the reward items you get on the right hand of the screen above the mini-map.

The damage requirement for “tagging” a Champ is pretty low but the chest will not visually spawn for you to see if you did not contribute enough to count in the kill.

Almost all Champions will have the word “Champion” in their name (but not all of them).

How is it another discussion lol… it’s the whole reason I made this thread, two 1Hers are time-gated for much longer than just crafting one 2Her

I meant time gating in general (thus the OVERALL part of the comment). I get that was not clear…my bad.

It takes more resources in general to make 2 weapons instead of one, so the time gating is just a side effect of that fact….. I certainly consider that gearing up with 2 1H weapons is going to cost me more in just about every respect and accept it (I AM getting twice as many weapons out of the process). If you want some “better” gear while working toward Exotic, I suggest looking at RARE (YELLOW) armor on the TP. Relatively cheap and will get you decent stats so you can WvW or do Dungeons.

What you really want to pin down when pursuing LVL 80 armor is the LOOK you want. Keep in mind that transmutation stones do add some expense, but give you complete control over the stats you want on whatever armor skin you desire (same goes for weapons).

I get you are frustrated, but you are seriously going to blame this entire issue on ANet?

There are dozens of connections between you and their servers so just ASSUMING their servers are the reason you were disconnected is not fair….internet disruptions happen and data gets corrupted. Trying to place blame and figure out who’s fault it is does not fix the problem.

With that out of the way, you need to realize that if the game “suspects” there is a problem with the GW2.DAT database, it starts downloading it again. However, you can manually try repairing the DB with the -repair option. You may need to download some files again, but at least it won’t be all of them. Gotta say that how these doors work is less than clear and quite an annoyance. The porting back to LA is a MAJOR inconvenience as it is FAR too easy to accidentally enter the door rather than loot nearby items.

Putting LOOT on a different key is a possible solution to this, but should NOT be necessary….kind of a sloppy design (just like the location of the loot chests and balloon travel being too close together on the QJ towers).

Was I playing the game where the Dev’s changed the 8-bit jumping zone content when people complained or did I dream that….?

These forums are full of such massive exaggeration and flat out lies it’s not even entertaining any longer….

IMO, they DO need to adjust the crafting requirements down for the weapons, but other than that all these complaints boil down to, “it’s not the same as last year….whhaaaaa!!!!”

Myself i’ve only started 2-3 weeks ago. I levelled up a ranger so far but struggling in dungeons finding a supportive group to take noobs. Im finding ranger hard in dungeons because of the close proximity and relatively low dps (but constant).

You are going to find it a long haul to get accepted into a Dungeon group as a Ranger. The pet mechanic is NOT good in most Dungeons (Dead pets = not 100% effective) and groups will avoid you just on that fact alone. Not saying it’s fair, but it is an issue you need to be aware of.

There’s a little bit of catch-22 once you reach 80. Need better gears which seems to be from dungeons, but cant do dungeons because I lack experience / tactics.

There are dozens of other sources to get Exotic equipment from…..Crafting, WvW vendors, Laurel vendors, Trading Post, etc. Here’s a tip, gear up with Rare’s (Yellow) items first. You can get them cheaply off TP or other sources and they are a good alternative increase in gear until you can obtain Exotics.

I’ve never done any Dungeon instance (over 50% of the players haven’t either). If you want the Dungeon set skins, your MUST do the them however.

Another tip: DO THE DAILY ACHIEVEMENTS. If possible. In doing them regularly, you are nearly guaranteed to get the MONTHLY as well. Laurels (main achievement reward) are good sources of income and equipment later in the game….start hording them now. Also, the Achievement chests (one of the BEST updates to the game content, IMO) contain all sorts of useful items and are a great long term goal.

Coming from a WoW player, and an MMO player since 1997, this game is one of the most difficult I have had to play.

The classes are unbalanced in that some you can dominate from the beginning, while others you have to really be on top of things.

I like a lot that the game has to offer, but there is so much that is difficult to overcome, or is poorly designed (ie: dying and choosing a way point to rez that says it is clear, only to find it surrounded by mobs and dying again.)

I have only been playing for a week, and I am on the fence as to whether or not I like the game.

This game is nothing like WoW, and makes the challenge of WoW look like the Sims.

My opinion.

You may need to read some of these posts and linked threads as I have NEVER heard this game described as, “one of the most difficult I have had to play.”. I can only think you are playing the game based on a incorrect assumption of how to play it (standing still attacking, not dodging, fighting in areas you are not leveled or equipped for, etc.) The contents of this thread (or links contained here) may help with that.

One players “unbalanced” is another players “different” and what you consider a “poor design” I might consider “challenging and realistic”. BTW, no waypoint in an open world zone should ever be considered 100% SAFE. There are those that I have never seen an enemy near, but you have to learn the zones to find them.

How to take action against bad people?

Not sure what you expect from a PuG in a Dungeon.

I’m not justifying the other players actions, but getting upset and attempting to seek some sort of “revenge” because you got called a name in an on-line video game is rather childish itself. Report the guy and move on.

You are justifying other players actions.
You seem to think it’s okay for things like this to happen.
When you start up a game, it is meant to be fun. I don’t think calling names is fun, whether it’s in a game or not. The fun factor in RPGs is progress, which takes time.
When you spend time on something and someone takes away your rewards, you would not be happy! Thus it would be time to do something about that.

You obviously don’t know what the word “justify” means, if you truly believe what I posted indicated it was ok for anyone to cursing at you. I just said it’s going to happen in any online environment (GW2 is much less than most) and all you CAN do is report them. The reporting is built in and easy to use (instructions in one of the other posts). Having a major personal crisis over it is just stressing yourself out over something you have no control over. I do it all the time and at some point in your life you will realize it’s not worth it.

Here are my 2 cents:

While leveling:

  • SAVE your Karma. Recent patches have made it harder to obtain and it is valuable once you start gearing up Max level character(s). It’s ok to spend a little on jewelry and possibly a chunk on a few rare weapons along the way, but GREEN gear drops a lot and is more than good enough to use until you reach LVL 80. I wouldn’t start searching to replace equipment until it’s 7-10 levels below your current level.
  • If you plan on crafting (or just want to make some extra money on the Trading Post), get some gathering tools and harvest EVERY resource node that pops up on your radar. Nodes respawn for each character every day (but move when updates happen).
  • Ask for help in chat….most players will readily assist. On that note, revive everything you can….free XP!

did this on a guardian over the weekend with no problems. Hammer auto attack, stand your ground, save yourselves, and retreat were all enough to keep the npcs alive too. I dont even remember the small spiders being an issue. They died in a single auto attack chain.

Wiki didn’t indicate they were an issue other than delaying you getting to the BOSS. It implied there was some sort of Buffing Glitch if you took too long getting to him (triggering the cut-scene).

@ Falunel – That’s more like it….(your first suggestions were not very specific).

1H vs 2H time-gating

One handers should be easier to get, then. I thought that point was pretty kitten obvious…

They do require less overall materials, but not much (so that could be changed, to make them a bit easier to obtain).

BTW, I was being slightly sarcastic with my previous remark and I see that was not clear….

They actually require more overall materials. It takes 9 Deldrimor Steel Ingots for both an ascended GS and an ascended Sword. It takes 3 Spiritwood Planks for both as well (the inscription is the same).

So making two 1H swords is twice the materials as a single 2H greatsword.

EDIT: And as described by the OP, twice as long due to the time gating (assuming you don’t buy the ingots/planks off the TP).

Materials required should be examined for a change (I have already stated that), but your other points is a generic weapon mechanic “issue” (1-2H vs 2-1H) that has existed since the game came out. It is NOT an Ascended weapon crafting issue at all.

The overall time-gating issue is another discussion also.

They do require less overall materials, but not much so while that could be changed, to make them a bit easier to obtain, but I doubt that is going to happen due to those already crafted.

BTW, I was being slightly sarcastic with my previous remark and I see that was not clear….sorry.

Mystic Forge Dagger Skins. Only 2-3 ?

in Crafting

Brother Grimm.5176

According to dulfy.net gallery there are 74 dagger skins and 79 Greatsword skins. Overall the balance is not that out of wack (tho I get that you are talking about Exotic uniques).

According to the Wiki here is a count of the named weapons (all Exotics and Legendary’s):

  • Axes = 16
  • Dagger = 12
  • Focus = 28
  • Greatsword = 14
  • Hammer = 13
  • Harpoon Gun = 9
  • Longbow = 13
  • Mace = 6
  • Pistol = 11
  • Rifle = 10
  • Scepter = 16
  • Shield = 16
  • Short Bow = 13
  • Spear = 11
  • Staff = 14
  • Sword = 19
  • Torch = 11
  • Trident = 11
  • Warhorn = 10

Average is 13.3 so Daggers are low by one and there are many other weapons that have been slighted more (tho, some of them are understandable….like MACE which only 2 classes can use).

What’s up with Focus having over twice as many as the average? There are also nearly 90 Focus skins total (compared with an average of about 76 for other weapons).

Artifacting for a Noob

Are you trying to craft with the materials you gather during regular play? That’s really hard to do if you’re on your first character.

Unless you have some gold to buy materials with, doing this with one character is nearly impossible. I ran 5 characters up at about the same pace and was able to craft some useful equipment along the way, but until you get some resources (gold, gathered mats or both), you are going to run into roadblocks with crafting.

Those guides are a good way to plan some crafting and you will find that cooking is the anomaly of the crafting professions and artificer is the oddball weapon craft.
