I did ask this a long time ago, and most people at the time complained that it was too human centric. Why would a chart want to go to a human gods domain etc.
Now I would argue why would a Charr go to FoTM, or in to the mists in general. They don’t believe in gods etc. I just want to go back there because I’d love to see the place in all its GW2 glory.
Not only are they perhaps the funnest collection item in a lot of MMOs, but they also enrich the setting and make it feel more immersive. There’s no reason not to have both waypoints and collectible mounts.
The only possible drawback they could have would be being resource-intensive, but all they really need to do to make that a non-issue make them not usable in combat or in certain areas.
Are there reasons why Anet and GW2 players are opposed to them that I’m missing? Wanting to be different isn’t really a good enough one.
ANet have given many reasons on why, I’ll drop some highlights, but if you want to know them all, have a look for the mounts mega thread.
The game can not “mount” a player. It has to create a whole new model mount included.
There are “mounts” in game, have a look at the toy section of the gem store, there is a magic carpet and a riding broom. Seeing as in 3 years we have only had theses so my guess is they didn’t sell well enough to warrant making more.
ANet want you to enjoy the world, not blaze through it on a mount.

YOU JUST TOOK THE VERY LAST BIT OF PROGRESS OUT OF THE GAME THAT WAS LEFT…. and i dont know if you realize that anet. You are promoting your game as a “big living world full of dynamic events” and you are basically taking it away from the new players…
Its okay giving it to the players who alredy have an lvl 80 character, but giving it to the new players ???
So because you bought the expansion you get to automatically skip everything and become max level instead of having to work for it and put the time into doing it yourself…What is this WoW now ?? What a better way to throw the entire world you created in the garbage. Why would I leave LA now except for guild missions??
It removes the entirety of what GW2 is.. exploration and discovery.

Lol. I’ve not levelled a character in 2 years. ToK all the way. I have 8 character’s and only one was levelled from 1-80 with no ToK used. My Rev was instant 80, still went to every map though to do the HC and map completion. So not really.
I have a rev with the the surname Greywind, after Captain Greywind from GW1, who’s grave can be found in the Ascalon settlement. Never been asked to change it. But then I don’t think you can name your character the same an an NPC.
I’m swimming in charges. I’ve got around 120, and I’ll only end up with more, seeing as I hardly use them.
Just do map completion and you’ll soon have more than enough, if you play PvP you’ll also get alot from there.

Well, that’s sort of the thing isn’t ‘it. If you hardly use them of course you’re going to be swimming in them. However I do use them and while I’m not running out, I am using them faster than I get them. I’ve done full map completion on 8 characters and I do the PvP dailies each day. If I get much lower I’m thinking of making chars to do the cities, then delete and repeat… but boring.
We’ll I don’t use them till my characters are 80. That way you don’t waste them on levelling gear. But unless your changing your look every few days I really can’t see why you are running out of then.
It takes 2-3 seconds to go to the reddit subforum.
If that channel already exists – and it has the tools needed to make a back and forth discussion more easily than the forums do, why in the world would ANet not use reddit – or spend money/time/resources to change these forums?
Is it really such a hardship on people to hop over to reddit – especially when they give you a notice and a link on this site to make it easier?
Some people just don’t like reddit’s format. I for one hate it. I just can’t follow it. We have a dev tracker on this forum. Why ANet just have not changed there forum I’ll never know.
By putting it on Reddit:
1)They allow people to post who have been banned from posting on official forums (there are many)
2) can reach players who don’t currently have GW2 and reply
3) independent moderation (no ANET dictatorship in some people’s eyes – not mine !)
4) allows f2p players to also take part in the discussion and reply
5) ANET uses reddit as the GW2 unofficial forums -
Devs seem to have a more relaxed policy what they can say on Reddit vs official forums (which requires pre approvals etc).

I’d love to ask questions, but reddit is a sprawling mess. Everything someone links a dev post on reddit, I find the format a complete mess. But I’m not going to change anyone’s mind on this.
On topic: I’m glad there will be some Q&A time, though even if I had a Reddit account I’d be too busy doing things in the new patch in my short time window before Tuesday errands take me away to spend out of game time talking about the new things. I’m just hoping the new things are in fact delightful enough and would have been spoiled by a few days’ notice to warrant the silence in advance.
Like the last Q & A? Where they didn’t really say anything other than they where looking at this and that. The last time it was a more of what we are not working on, and damage control. I’m getting fed up of having to look at Facebook, Twitter and every thing else just to get information on this game when they have a forum, but I guess they know best……
Sounds like Guild wars 2 is not the game for you OP. Everything you hate, most people really like. gear is really easy to to get now. at launch, it cost a crazy about of Gold to make exotic armor with the stats you needed. not it’s really cheap in comparison, not to mention do a PvP dungeon track and after 2-3 full runs you should have enough tokens to buy the missing armor bits if you used the boxes for chest and legs, and seeing as you get an exotic helm from finishing the PS, you’ll be fully kitted out. This is how I have geared most of my characters. Also you don’t really need to think about stats unless your a min maxer. 99% of PvE is easy enough to do in full zurker.
thanks for your replies. i think you may be overestimating my ability and my apetite for challenge.
there are enough posts about difficulty and grouping on this forum and on reddit to make me know that hot would not be enjoyable for me as it is now. i tend not to play the harder parts of these types of games. i bought all of the first gw games and really enjoyed them but i never did any of the hard dungeons or bosses and never did hard mode.
in this game i have spent a bit of time in silverwastes and drytop but not really enjoyed them and i really struggled to complete the story line. in other words, i am nowhere near an expert player. i just enjoy wandering around collecting stuff and doing simple quests. i think i’d like gliding and i’d like to make a revenent and i’d like to continue the story.
i don’t know why they did not include some easy areas in hot. guildwars has always been about lots of easy content and some optional hard content.
If you know how to dodge, and not to stand in the things that will kill you, you’ll be fine. I found playing through HoT with a ranged class really easy, my full zurker ranger was easy mode. The only thing i found hard when I first played through was the HC, and some areas where mobs are quite dense.
Yeah. Always from a person who dose not have a tag. I always say, “you tag up then if your so pro” they never do. When they continue I just tell them to go buy a tag and block/report.
Did Anet give a predicted timeline to the lifespan of GW1?

In all seriousness as long as it keeps making money, gw2 will keep going. Developing an MMO from the ground up is very expensive.
Although the sales of HOT obviously aren’t good and they even made the base game F2P so its not hard to tell they aren’t doing to well ATM.
GW2 makes most of it’s money from the gem store, so as long as they keep putting items in there that people will buy, they’ll keep making money. If they stop adding things to the gem store, I’d start to worry then.
This is my point of its 6 hrs of gameplay of there abouts ….and you want to swap between pact runes (for WvW) and scholar (for PVE)- why should you be spending all your gold for rune swapping ?
Don’t players have other things they want to spend gold on like:
WvW Siege, Food, Putting towards there first legendary?
It seems to me that you want to punish players who want to do multiple modes of gameplay.
What are you so scared of?
The prices of high end runes/sigils won’t suddenly go down. This is why I have stated it is ‘per armor piece’ and ‘per weapon’.
So if I have two great swords:
Ascended Greatsword – from Necro Specilisation
Ascended Sunless Greatsword – from Tequatl
If I put a superior sigil of force on the Teq Greatsword it is not unlocked on my Necro Specilisation Greatsword. If I choose to ‘unlock’ every sigil on my Teq weapon – I can change game modes in PVE, WvW, test stuff out without incurring extra costs, react to a future meta shift quickly.
The only sigil unlocked on my Necro ascended weapon is the starter one- if I want access to more I have to unlock them.
Most players will then either (a) swap weapons via bank of (b) start to unlock runes on 2nd Greatsword for ease of use. I know many will prefer to also unlock on there 2nd weapon.
You would be surprised what the majority of players have – those with HoT have accessibility to ascended weapons via HoT.
ANET have also given out several pieces of ascended armor via collections.
From years of dungeon running – I can confirm that there is a large player base who run expensive sigils / runes regularly. The advantage it gives is not a placebo and was worth it. With raids players are even more insistent on being geared correctly before even allowing you to step inside.
But if you stat swap the ascended weapon you lose everything. that includes runes and infusions. Now I think if this could be stopped ANet would have done it, it clearly is not something that is easy to do. what we need to know is, if this is something that could be easy to do. Which the ability to tie it to weapons might be doable, but then if you change the stats on said weapons because of a meta change, you will have to start over. Having them tied to a weapon is a good way to balance things out, but having them to character, that might be harder to do again, as it would involve changing how sigils worth with weapons.

Indeed. I’m willing to bet most people don’t even change the stats on there legendary weapons.
Because people don’t do it largely due to:
1) cost
2)inconvenience ( build templates are on the to-do list so that is largely moot)
3) I do swap stats on legendaries, but not being able to swap sigils vastly limits the use of that. I know plenty who have the exact same complaint about stat swapping.
I did say most. Sigils don’t cost that much. And lets face it, this game is zurker for the vast majority of it, outside of a few instances..
As long as they make them near impossible to get, I have no problem with them coming back.
It’s great that the armors are prestiged in some way- Yes the tribal armor was a Wolf rank, but earning XP is so much easier now & you are actually guaranteed a decent reward, where as before all the PvP changes, you were not.
You hardly got XP from losses and in order to get a decent amount of XP for pvp rank you needed pvp boosters, and to actually win.
Once you got the “wolf” tokens from finally reaching wolf rank, you turned in the tokens and could throw them in the mystic forge and maybe, just maybe you’d get the tribal armor.
So, hopefully there will be no handouts as most people in gw2 want.
Lol, no one is asking for a hand out, just the ability to get them back. Personally I don’t like any of them. But making them “near impossible to get” is a sad thing to say. I’m all for items being hard to get when it comes to special events or yearly festivals. There are loads I don’t have and don’t care if I never get them, but I do not wish other people the inability to get them.
Might just be me, but DS is very easy to play through, as for popping cool downs every time, we must be playing different games, or you like to stand in things that get you killed.
month ago there were 10-15 of each legendary on TP now there are 1 or 2 of each type. It means ppl went to play something else cause there are no more legendary builders and sellers.
Or legendary weapons are not as great as some make out. Most are ugly imho. Ascended are cheaper to make, and just as good.

This suggestion has been put out there for about a year now, with the sane arguments for, and against. Not to mention the work ANet will have to do. When it comes to code, nothing is simple.
The extractors are 250G/Use – there are very few runes that are worth that.
Right now the extractors may as well not exist – I’m sure the sales of extractors are very low – removing them from the gem-store would not be the end of the world.
Well, the choice is there, if you want to keep your runes and not buy new ones. But then I really don’t think people play with builds as much as some people make out. When people go on about stat swapping on legendary weapons, mine where set to zurker and have never been changed. I know many people who have legendary weapons and didn’t know there stats could be changed after they first set them, and after they knew, they still have never changed them.

You don’t need ascended to do anything but high level fractals, but then that’s not strictly true as infused ascended rings ect can be used to a point.

Its a “cheap” legendary or it was, last time I looked it was around 600is gold. I made mine shortly before HoT launched. Even the precursor was cheap, about 140g.

Considering that in HoT practically whole map is part of the meta, that’s a really, really huge exception.
Yeah, some parts of the map can only be accessed with meta events being completed, as are all the challenges. So yeah, HoT is not solo friendly. I really don’t think challenges should be tied to the meta at all.

So going through old story, and just finished the part of Dragon’s Reach 2 called “Taimi and the Asura.”
So here’s my question: Why can’t we just kill Phlunt? At the very least, we should be able to try and talk him down. But the assumes, wrongly, that not only am I willing to work with him for the “greater good”, but that I’m willing to convince Taimi to do so.
He’s evil, greedy, selfish, and willing to sacrifice his people and the world for a bit of profit. I say let all of Rata Sum know that fact, and either they can kick him out and do things properly, or they can die to the dragon’s wrath and we’ll be better off without them.
Hopefully he gets his own sometime… I haven’t finished the other four episodes from season 2.
This is, I think, the first time a “choice” has been forced on me that not only did I not like, but I flat out disagreed with.
I know I’m bit late in complaining about this, but I honestly had to vent. I’ve always enjoyed the story of GW2, and being forced to side with the evil manipulative prick, against my comrade, is wrong on every conceivable level. If he controls Rata Sum, that proves they’re unreliable. You give in to a tyrant’s demands, they don’t magically become reasonable or cooperative, they remain a tyrant and try to screw you over further.
By comparison, the Imperator of the Black Citadel is a bastion of logic and reason…
While I agree, it would have been nice to throw him off a cliff, we need the asura. And seeing as he was the only one to show up, we have to deal with him and get him onboard. Maybe later on we get choice of saving him, or someone else. That way he can let him die and not be the bad guy for it.

Are you using the 64-bit client? If not try it, it fixed problems for many people. Or as others have said, try turning things down.on your setting to avoid crashes. Or get a new system if yours is getting on a bit, PC’s are not meant to last forever.
Think this dude doesn’t have that problem, what he/she is talking about empty maps trigging the change map pop-up even if map fills up. But that is another problem and not the same.

Yeah, as much as I enjoyed dungeons, I can’t ever see them coming back. Fractals are fun at first but get old fast. I think I’ve played 5 since HoT. And I’d not touched them in about a year before that. I just don’t find them fun, I like a story. That was something that GW1 had in every part of it. GW2 started out the same. There is no meaningful story in fractals. That is the main reason I don’t play them. For me they are just not worth doing.
We can’t mix armor weights because of lining up issues with the different weights. There are enough outfits so you can look like what ever you want. But armor skins are all there own part. Making it so we could make custom outfits would probably be more work than any potential cash gain for ANet.
