Anet please sell me an expansion. Don’t make money with stuff like this.
We know she’s fascinated with power. And you know what power does.
They totally foreshadowed a tragic story with Livia and the scepter in the final credits of EoTN.
I was kind of hoping for a dungeon with her as the boss. I bet something like that was planned too, but never followed up on.
That is what is really sad about this. It is clear that they had a lot of cool stuff planned, but it seems that the restructuring of the company, and the loss of many vets, has thrown everything in the air.
Now they seem to be floundering in trying to find their way.
Actually, I think Livia is being set up as a mega powerful ally. We already have like 100+ mega powerful enemies. Let’s get someone powerful on our side for a change.
I think the LS should focus on tying up loose lore ends in GW1, before starting anything new like Scarlet. There are so many things they can talk about. Joko, 6 gods, Mursaats, etc.
They don’t even need to finish everything at once. But please get it started. And then maybe mix it with new villains like Scarlet in between.
e.g.
Joko 1
6 gods 1
Scarlet (new villain) 1
Mursaats 1
6 gods 2
Scarlet (new villain) 2
Joko 2
6 gods 3
Mursaats 2
Eye of the North 1

Who do you think is our most useful ally and deadly enemy? Try to use these 4 categories:
Observed ally: (already in the game or book)
Guessed ally: (your guess based on lore)
Observed Enemy: (already in the game or book)
Guessed Enemy: (your guess based on lore)
Here are mine.
Observed ally: Anise. She might not be the most powerful, but she is surely very intelligent. She is much more useful than Logan, who is an emo-queen-lover that rush into things.
Guessed ally: Livia. She is a few hundred years old and wields the Scepter of Orr. Nuff said.
Observed Enemy: Primordus. He can summon minions without the need of undead or corrupting other races. That means he is so powerful that he doesn’t need to sweet talk anyone. He just overpower you and then suck out your magic. His minions alone fought the whole Dwarven race (read again, whole race, in their ultimate stone form) to a stand still. He himself hasn’t even awake yet (no world damage).
Guessed Enemy: Isgarren’s boss. A lore built up since GW1, hidden in Wizard’s Tower for over 300 years (could be thousands). Whoever that guy is he must be pretty much a god by now. When he shows himself, he will make the Elder Dragons look like child’s play.

Slender Man?
Dead Space?

Necromorphs for halloween?
Scarlet: Caithe got a boyfriend! Caithe got a boyfriend!
Faolain: LOLWUT???
Sell your gossamer while you can. Once everyone hits level 400 in armor crafting, gossamers becomes worthless again.
It’s probably related to this:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Caithe
(She is unusual in that while most sylvari are creatures of light, she has never feared “gazing into the darkness” to seek “truths that others fear.”)
The only reason Caithe would kill Snaff would be if he secreted wanted Kral ’s power for himself.
Not much. But we can speculate that Cantha will be the enemy this time around. 300 years changed everything.
Why would you speculate that Cantha would be an enemy? Just because they had a xenophobic emperor before they closed their borders? That isn’t much to go by, and like you said; 250 years could have changed everything.
We could speculate that elements within the Empire could be possibly future enemies, especially the MoP, but the entire Empire itself? Probably not. It would be too much of a hassle, because can you imagine an army trying to invade or conquer Kaineng City? It’s what nightmares are made of combat wise for armies: close quarters, poorly structured buildings (if that hasn’t changed), maze like design, dense civilian populations, resistant civilian populations, and it is large, huge, is every sense of the word.
Any invading armies would get eaten alive in Kaineng.
All signs points to MoP (with the emperor being a member/close friend) pretty much running the show 200 years ago. They for sure hates all non human races. They might even hate all non Canthan. At best, they hate 4 of the 5 races of the Pact, that makes being friends with them impossible.
Sure things could have changed in the last 200 years. But that would be counter intuitive. What’s the point of spending all the time setting up the MoP and a xenophobic emperor when, by the time the players goes to Cantha in GW2, Cantha is back to where it was in GW1?
The leadership of Cantha will almost certainly be the enemy. I do agree that certain groups (e.g. civilians, Obsidian Flame, and other rebel groups) might be allies.
How to make the environment alive? Well its atmosphere. That means, other than the player’s fight against the mobs, what else is going on?
One example I would point out is the Return of the Kings game. They did it really well. On top of player vs mobs, they have civilians, ally soldiers and siege weapons. It really make you feel you are a part of a bigger battle.
Using the new TA dungeon as an example, they could have wild animals running away from the chaos throughout the game. They could add ally soldiers that you meet throughout the game, but they won’t follow you.
This is just one example. Atmosphere will change from place to place, depending on situation. And they need to be adjusted. For example a stealth mission will use different mechanics to make that environment feel alive. For example we might hear more chatta between the enemies (they can’t see us). We might see more enemies making out (haha).
Notice that atmosphere is totally separated from the player vs mob action. Its what’s going on around and outside the main action.
Forget Bloodlust. Everyone that I talked to in game hates Bloodlust. Remove all of it from WvW.
Instead, change the benefits of holding the ruins to actual score. For example holding 3/5 control points (or more) within the ruins worth the score of a single keep.
What does this mean? Let’s say your score is currently 200. If you hold 3/5 control points within the ruin, you server’s score jumps up to +225, since a keep worth +25 points. If by chance your server holds 3/5 on all 3 ruins across the 3 borderlands, your score becomes +275. [For the record, max possible score is now 69575=+770.] Of course, you only get those points at the end of the timer.
So now players will fight over the ruins, since it now worth actual points to the server. Havoc teams fighting over the ruins are now encouraged, meaning more havoc vs havoc action. GvG is returned to the game since no one gets an unfair advantage. Killing 3 birds with 1 stone.
P.S. Slightly off topic, but they should change the ruins to model after the burning city of Ascalon from FoTM. Looks a lot more epic, and nothing beats street battles.

Did we get new lore on Cantha?
Not much. But we can speculate that Cantha will be the enemy this time around. 300 years changed everything.
I 100% agree this is the best designed dungeon to date. For example I love how the player encounters a hologram projector in the middle of the mission. This is a forshadow/training for a later encounter, where the players have to kill 8 hologram projectors at once. This is the right way to teach a player how to play.
Another thing I love about this dungeon: Zerker gears have a disadvantage. Finally, tanks have a place.
And the Spur part, which you have to pull mobs, were a flashback to the GW1 days.
Also having optional missions is a great idea. Another flash back to GW1 days. (e.g. remember Glint?)

Just stand next to Spark and dodge the ooze here and there. This dungeon is easy.
Alright tried it with guildmates and we got it done in first try. There were a few wipes but for the most part it was a walk in the park. That twins weren’t that hard after a few trials.
This isn’t a hard dungeon tbh. Once you tried Arah and FoTM nothing is that hard. But I just don’t respect people rage quitting and kick players out for “failing”.
I have seen everything today. Rage quitting. People kicking each other out.
The TA community is poison.

How about a Rifle-Staff? Those are cool.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
Orr – Sunken and all killed. Now risen as undead.
Ascalon – Mostly killed during Foefire. Now only Ebonhawk remains.
Kryta – Last human nation on Tyria.
Istan, Kourna, Vabbi (Elona)- Now Palawa Joko’s slaves. Maybe all undead by now.
Empire of the Dragon (Cantha) – Kurzicks and Luxons both conquered by the Cantha Empire. Probably the most powerful human faction remaining.
It is possible that the Pale Tree is a dragon champion. She just don’t know it since she never meet her jungle elder dragon mother.
From what I gathered, Seers and Mursaats were allies at one point against the elder dragons. Mursaats decided to betray the group and left the world entirely (so they have ways to reach outer space, or the Mist). Glint hid the other races (including the seers) in her lair until the elder dragons sleeps again.
After the elder dragons were gone, both Mursaats and Seers returned to the world. They then fought against each other until Seers went extinct. It’s unclear what the Forgotten, Dwarves and Jotun were doing at the time.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Seer
“The seers were an enigmatic, magical race. During the last rise of the Elder Dragons, they forged the original Bloodstone to contain all untainted magic, including the jotun’s. They allied with the forgotten, dwarves, jotun, and mursaat to resist the Elder Dragons and survived. During this time, the five races worked together until the mursaat betrayed the other races and fled from the world. In the subsequent war between the mursaat and the seers, the seers were able to develop a defense against the mursaat’s Spectral Agony magic, but it was created too late in the war and the seers lost. Seer ruins exist still, but those who find them do not know their origins.1”
Will we, the people of lions arch ever be able to have an alliance with a dragon, Mabey as a supreme gatekeeper or something, or are they instinctively definetly set to kill everything?
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Glint
It could happen again. I’m not sure about elder dragons though: it’s highly unlikely. They could possibly be played against eachother when more than one comes into play at the same time but I am pretty certain that they wouldn’t agree to an alliance (or be coaxed into one).
Speaking of which, Glint’s memories are now inside Kralkatorrik. It is unknown if this will affect the behavior of Kralkatorrik. Will Kralkatorrik now see other races as more than insects, the same way Glint did? Time will tell.
Zhaitan was made of up multiple dragon champions. It is possible that Kralkatorrik is also a combined mind of dragon champions.
Glint’s gifts were " enter the minds of others as well as foreseeing the future.". Kralkatorrik can probably do the same in a more powerful way.
The fate of Glint’s children is unknown. Maybe they will play a part in the story later on. (Asexual reproduction? Or another dragon champion laying around?)
Anyways I will be very disappointed if Kralkatorrik turns out to be just another elder dragon we have to mindlessly kill. There is so much room and lore for an awesome story here with Kralkatorrik.
e.g.
“Kralkatorrik! You killed Glint!”
“No children. I am Glint. And she is me.”

When TA Assault was announced, I had hoped for a 3 way war. We have:
1) Caithe, the Pact and the players
2) Scarlet + minions
3) Faolain + Nightmare Court
I had hope for Scarlet and Faolain fighting against each other over the Nightmare Tree, while the players comes in to take advantage of the situation.
Anyone else disappointed that this didn’t turn 3 way?
Rewards can only get you so far. Ask any WvW guild and most will tell you its the fight that matters. Not many will transfer down even if those leagues rewards higher.
Warrior is the best overall class. But boring as **** tbh.
Anyone else see this picture when they mention an airship factory?
Why do they need to remove a path? Just add a new path and everyone would be happy.
What if the Elder Dragons pull a Dead Space?
“Make us whole! Let us all unite within the dragons!”
“Inside the dragons, you will see your love ones again. You will live forever.”
When one dragon dies, another takes its place. We have 4 other dragon to deal with, and Teq the next Zhaitan. Kralkatorrik’s knowledge on these ancient dragons will be very valuable. Perhaps now we can put an end to elder dragons once and for all.
That is speculation, since we still have no idea how Teq is “evolving”. All we know is that its evolution is going to tie into the living story at some later date. So. we really can’t say Teq is or isn’t the next Zhaitan, until it’s confirmed or denied.
Plus, Kralk would never give us information on how to truly kill an Elder Dragon, because he’s an Elder Dragon. He would basically be giving us the weapon to kill him with. Truce or no truce, with all the other Elder Dragons supposedly dead, Kralk still needs to devour magic. That hunger is sooner or later going to make us enemies again. So there is no point in him giving us info on how to deal with the other Elder Dragons, since it would only be used against him later.
I am sure by killing other elder dragons, there are more than enough magic for Kralkatorrik to consume.
Helping the Pact kill other elder dragons and Joko is part of the deal. So Kralkatorrik will have to give up the secrets in killing elder dragons. That’s what lure the Pact into the deal.
Why would Kralkatorrik do it? It was weakened by the fight against Destiny’s Edge, making it the weakest of the 5 surviving dragons. It saw Zhaitan got killed by the Pact’s new weapons. It is trapped between the Pact and Joko’s forces, and Joko is a military genius on top of being mega powerful. Teaming up with the Pact gives its the highest chance of survival.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
1) money – Elder dragons don’t need money
2) power – Elder dragons are already powerful.
3) survival – Elder dragons need magic to survive (assuming).
So they are not evil. Its simply that their existence conflicts with our existence. As a result one side have to be annihilated so the other side can survive.
When one dragon dies, another takes its place. We have 4 other dragon to deal with, and Teq the next Zhaitan. Kralkatorrik’s knowledge on these ancient dragons will be very valuable. Perhaps now we can put an end to elder dragons once and for all.
an elder dragon would never side with puny insects, would you join offer a peace treaty to a nest of ants? no
These “insects” just took down Zhaitan. That is bound to get Kralkatorrik attention. Kralkatorrik is also weakened from the fight with Destiny’s Edge.
Best: Molten Weapons Facility Dungeon.
Worst: Scarlet the character.
Build design was a HUGE part of the game for me back in GW1. I would spent hours wondering about what skills and traits I should use.
Not the case in GW2. I do miss it. But I think once they increase the number of utility skills available, things will be better.
The drop rates are way too low from what I heard. Just buy them from someone else.
Why not just make a two handed sword that looks like a scythe?
I think they will add a new path for Scarlet. They won’t change the old stuff.
Won’t be fair at all to the people that recently paid for transfers with gems. Can you imagine the outcry?
Unless Anet offers a gem/cash refund for all transfers within the last 4 weeks, of course. And with that in mind, you know why this will never happen.
I do agree that balancing the servers is great in the long run. But at this point, Anet might as well start merging servers in lower tiers to save overhead costs. It will be the same result.
Take Final Fantasy into account. It’s fantasy with all these airships, guns, superweapons and the main characters still use swords, magic, and other really nonsensical weapons to combat people with guns and giant mechs.
To be fair, the very final bosses in Final Fantasys are usually mages. Technology can only bring you so far. Ancient magics are more powerful at the end.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
1) Humans are the best race with magic, as per lore.
2) Humans must be useless in GW2, so other races can take over.
1+2=magic must be useless.
Ok that’s a bit much. But you get the idea.
It is time the likes of Livia, Verata and Isgarren teaches the world to fear magic once again. All 3 are “human”, mind you.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
Without the Pale Tree, the Sylvari will literally go extinct. Unless Scarlet somehow turn into a new Pale Tree herself, there is no solution.
Wait a minute. Twilight Arbor has a Nightmare Tree. Oh I get it now…
(just because it’s not human-centric doesn’t mean the humans have to be wrong about everything, ya know…).
This. It’s rather becoming anti-human centric and asura-centric.
I totally ahte the asura race now. Even at the time i was amazed during the bazaar content, in the second minute i heard a dialog about a Zephyrite telling about their culture to an asura, and the asura, with the tone you use twhen you talk to someone mentally kittened, said" Aaaaah, so it1s the eternal alchemy, just in much more primitive approach" – i loath them. They destroy the atmoshpere as always.
Anyone who is not an asura is trash. It’s not just what all the asuras think, but what the game wants us to feel like.
Off topic, but come on. No race make others feel as trashy as Sylvari. Scarlet for example has 100 times smarter than any Asura alive.
No.
Joko might be a dictator ruling with an iron fist, but at least he can be reasonable on certain regards He also seems to be content just ruling Elona for right now. Kralk, on the other hand, still wants to corrupt and rule the entire world.
And the little girl transformation? It sounds like that idea got ripped off from an anime or manga.
We don’t know how powerful Joko has become. And the most dangerous part about Joko is his mind. This guy is actually high intelligent, unlike the other enemies we seen so far who rely on raw might and power.
We know very little of the elder dragons’ actual goals, tbh.
Kralkatorrik didn’t actually transformed into a girl. It just appears like a girl for the negotiation. She could be its avatar or something. Kralkatorrik is still a dragon.
There is risk involved of course. But the prospect of turning one elder dragon on our side cannot be ignored. The Pact killed Zhaitan, only to have its lieutenant take over its power. Kralkatorrik might know the secret of killing an elder dragon for good. It depends on the paying price.
If the heroes always think of betrayal first, the story of GW Prophecies and Nightfall would be very different. Heroes got betrayed many times there.
Not saying Kralkatorrik would even betray in the first place. Would it? No one knows yet. We cannot just assume that it will.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
Let’s say the Pact and Kralkatorrik had a treaty. What happens after they defeated Palawa Joko? Kralkatorrik will just stab the Pact in the back or worse: kill Trahearne in the process. Trahearne’s death could cause the Pact’s disbandment (unless our characters stepped in and become the Marshal).
After all the other elder dragons are dead, the Pact can deal with Kralkatorrik if it betrays them.
Great news for a apothecary set user like me.
The Giganticus Lupicus are mega giants of Elder Dragon size. It is unclear if the giants we see alive today are related to them.
Giganticus Lupicus could be as old as the Elder Dragons, or even older. Just as old theory means the GL were fighting against ED for generations, until ED comes out victorious. The older theory means the GL were on Tyria first, and the ED arrives later (from outer space???) and wiped out GL.
Some of the giant bones we see might belong to ED instead of GL. It would make sense that a titanic battle between GL and ED would lead to causality from both sides.
The ED today doesn’t like each other, so it is not certain if the ED 10,000 years old fought as an united force.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
Let’s say Kralkatorrik offers the Pact a peace treaty, would you take it?
After the battle against Destiny’s Edge, Kralkatorrik is in a very weakened state. Hence it went into hiding. Trapped in the Crystal Desert, it battled with the forces of Joko, which are much stronger than they were 300 years ago. They also cannot be corrupted because they are already undead. The Branded, while powerful, were no match against Joko’s superior military tactics, and suffered defeat after defeat.
The only way for it to survive was to offer the Pact a peace treaty. Kralkatorrik appeared as a harmless looking little girl, and offered to help the Pact battle against other Elder Dragons. In return, it asks for help against Joko’s forces.
The members of Destiny’s Edge would obviously be against this. However Queen Jennah and others might not feel the same.
“Kralkatorrik, why are you pretending to be human?”
“Because experience with your kind shows that looks matters to you, a great deal. It must be easier to talk with me when I look like this. I and other dragons only see creatures by the magic within them.”
“No way! It killed Glint!”
“Killing is the wrong way to put it. Her existence came from me. I merely re-absorbed the power that I gave her long time ago.”
“No way! It killed Snaff!”
“And he tried to mind control and kill me. I must put down such a serious threat, .”
“No way! It turned so many into the branded!”
“I can transform them back any time. If you want to save the branded, ally yourselves with me. Look.” (transformed a Branded Human back into human)
“Noooooooo my master! Give me back your gifts! I can’t live without you!”
“No. You will never become branded again. I am a dragon of my words.”
“Enough talk! We can kill it right here right now!”
“Don’t be so eager to fight me. Young one. If I wasn’t certain that I can defeat all of you today, I won’t be here. And trust me, I can. But it is moot point. As you know, our magic can never be destroyed. If you by chance kill me, my lieutenant will take over, and this endless cycle continues.”
“Why ally with the Pact? Why not with Joko?”
“Joko is a brilliant trickster, and has always been. The Pact at least have a bit of honour left in them.”
Will this alliance be made?
