This thread is a role playing thread. As a member of the inner circle of The Pact, you have been invited to study the current situation of the war against enemies of Kryta (and beyond) and give recommendations to Marshal Trahearne, the current leader of The Pact. All players are invited to join in.

This thread will involve a series of discussion and feedbacks on recommendations from the players. You are in the War Room with Marshal Trahearne and other commanders, so speak your mind.

Before we begin, I recommend that you watch this 1h30m video on the Art of War, to get a better understanding of military tactics.

I will begin with the first recommendation. It is against Scarlet.

1) Convince Mai Trin to become a double agent.

Objective: Get more intelligence on Scarlet and her forces.

Detail: Before we can do anything, we need more information on Scarlet. Else we will be fighting in darkness. And the fastest way to get that right now is from Mai Trin. She is refusing to talk right now probably because she thinks Scarlet is going to win.

Actions required:
-Research on the background of Mai Trin. Understand where she came from. Find out what will break her and make her snap. Everyone have a weakness and soft spot. She might be related to First Mate Horrik somehow, seeing how her defeat frenzies Horrik. A female of Cantha background linked with a Norn. This is an interesting hint.
-Convince Mai Trin that The Pact is going to win. Mai Trin is in prison and knows very little about the outside world. A few well placed lies and deception should do the trick.
-Give Mai Trin a royal pardon if she cooperates.
-Once she does cooperate, find out what she knows about Scarlet. Then plan a “fake” prison break for her to allow her to escape.
-We will plan our next move after more intelligence.

This thread is exactly what I’ve been saying is missing with the game. The storyline is too PG, the armor is for the most part very tame. I mean there is maybe one creepy looking armor available and it’s stuffed in a dungeon. Don’t even get me started on the whole fluffy legendary weapon concept, rainbows flowers and ponies. Where’s the dark drama that comes with a land full of turmoil and war, where’s the scary villains, the creepy content. Far too much fluff for me to be honest and way over the top PG! Girly Wars 2 nailed it! What’s next pandas?

Next probably a Kodan backback cover but I am often wrong. :P

To scare the players, they need to give the players an illusion that “monsters are everywhere, and can attack at any time.” On the front, few games do it as well as the Dead Space series. Watch this short clip to get an idea. Notice that they did this in both open field combat and narrow passage ways.

Of course, the lighting, atmosphere and music have a lot to do with it.

Maybe something like this for a Halloween special. :P

OP hits many issues on the head. I hate 1 hit kills. Make the boss cast spells more often for they have higher dps, but remove one hit kills.

On another thread, I talked about Strong Mobs vs Numerous Mobs. This topic is slightly related to that.

Right now, as the number of players involved in the world events increase, the chances of veterans and champions spawning increases.

I will be frank and say that veterans and champions are boring. Why are they boring? Because they are exactly the same as the normal mobs, only with increases health and damage.

Instead, as the number of players increase, they should start introducing are bosses to the event.

Take the Teq event for example. Let’s say it was designed for 40 players. That means 40 players can kill Teq in 15 minutes (let’s just assume this for a second).

So what happens when there are 45 players? The game should summon a Lupi at Teq’s location.

Remember Lupi, that giant mob in Arah? Yup him.

When there are 50 players, 2 Lupi will be spawned next to Teq. When there are 100 players, 12 Lupi will be spawned. etc. Every 5 new players gets involved, a Lupi is spawned. This works because 1 Lupi has been balanced to fight against 5 players, from the Arah Dungeon. The players have the advantage of being able to respawn after they died (unlike dungeons, where if the party gets wiped Lupi will reset), so it is easier.

What that means is, dungeons bosses are training to world events. You can expect to see them involved with world events in the future. Players that had been doing dungeons will have an advantage, since they know what to expect from the likes of Lupi.

What's the plan on 9hr queues on TC and BG?

Ever since the update, its been impossible to get to Teq on TC and BG without an overflow. I heard by 3 am PST you can get into it. But come on everyone is asleep by then.

The reason why there is a 8-9 hour queue time is because of guests. Most low population servers have no chance of getting Teq done, so they flooded to TC and BG.

I had read suggestions to kick guests when native TC or BG players wants to get in, or ban guests altogether. I think that’s the WORST idea ever. If players on low population servers cannot get it done, guests is the ONLY way for them to do it. People on low population servers PAID for this game just as everyone on TC and BG.

I also read suggestions on nerfing Teq. Another very bad idea. Teq is exactly how he needs to be. Difficult but do-able by an organized group. This is how all future world events should be. Players should fail for the first 3 days, and eventually succeed in it after getting some experience from their failures.

On another thread, I suggest to increase Teq’s spawn rate to 48 times a day (twice an hour). This will hopefully get people moving along so everyone can get a chance at Teq in their home server of TC and BG.

Well magic cannot be destroyed. When something this powerful dies, its power have to pass on elsewhere.

Remember that the elder dragons are supposedly more powerful than the 6 gods, including Abaddon. When Abaddon died, his magic passsed on to Komir.

He is one of the three dragon encounters in a dragon-themed game. He should be a rare and difficult fight. I am also eager to fight him more often because the new mechanics are great but I understand that he will quickly lose his appeal if he spawns too much.

Good point. But just for Boss Week, I think he should spawn faster than normal, just to move the players along if nothing else.

TC and BG both have 9 hour long queues.

Firstly, I am against any kind of nerf to the Teq event. I think the difficulty is perfect for a server event. Players are supposed to fail initially. They need to improve before they can win.

However I find Teq’s spawn rate way too slow. When it is so slow, players will often log off or change servers. The experiences that the players got from the the last trial didn’t get carry toward the next trial, because most players are gone.

Can we please speed it up? IMO Teq should spawn 48 times a day. That’s twice per hour. Limit the Teq rewards to once per day, so it cannot be abused. (This will also help remove the overcrowding problem in servers like TC and BG. As soon as the original players get the reward, hopefully they will leave and other new players can get to try it. This is better than waiting in overflow where failure is almost 100%.)

For example:

00:00 Teq spawns.
00:15 Event ends.
00:30 Teq spawns.

Waiting for Teq to respawn is not fun and is not difficult. Let players try it more often until they get it right. Do not nerf the event.

I think his idea is more so that glyphs show up when we cast, since we basically do nothing but make wavy hand movements for our other stuff.

Yes that’s all I wanted. Maybe give them a dark green grow to show how evil we are. :P

I honestly don’t know how people manage to RP in this game. It is one of the only games where the single player experience goes from essentially meaningless, menial tasks, and then basically turns you into a companion of the actual protagonist.

You basically play as Samwise Gamgee, with all the actually important characters everyone cares about being NPCs. It is ridiculous. Not only that though, there just doesn’t feel like anything special. I shouldn’t get the same reception from people as a Necro that I do as a Warrior; especially not when Zhaitan and I have such similar magic.

Honestly I just don’t get it. Besides the gameplay, I just really see no reason I’d want to RP as my characters.

Because it is fun to imagine where our characters came from.

For example if your character is a cheer go lucky girl, you have to figure out what made her so happy all the time.

We do not reanimate the creatures themselves. They blurred the hell out of it in GW1 due to the corpse system, but we’ve always formed entirely new creatures, just using dead crap we find as the basis for it.

I would assume our shade is, more accurately, like the stuff we cloak ourselves in when we use Death Shroud. It was originally tied to it (it would even die if we left DS, if I remember correctly), so while this is a complete assumption I think it is of the same essence.

Also, Verata definitely stretched rules, but Khilbron outright broke them. I’m not trying to say Necromancers can’t do it, the issue is more is it acceptable enough to be considered an ability that every single necromancer has access to use? I don’t think so, it is highly controversial, and would be even less acceptable than our current practices are.

And frankenstein totally wasnt body parts of at least 2 once living beings but still counts as a zombie/undead, or the jiangshi, or vampires, or golems, or abominations (wow ones) if you wanna talk about different creatures being mixed.
Also Bone minions and jhorrors are the only summons that are some sort of ugly fusion since Blood fiend is a Wind Rider/a variant of the species, Bone Fiend being a Lashtail Devourer/variant of devourer Wurm being a Frost Wurm/non jungle wurm kin and Golem being a Minotaur.

Shades and Aatxes are spirits of the underworld/fusions of lost souls trough unnatural magic, in most cases gods or demon ones. Priory corrupt sword storyline in GW2 even explains it for those that didnt bother playing UW in GW.

And for Khilbron, the one time he maybe broke the rules was with Rurik (even if he didnt need to but i guess using a rez signet on him would have been too precious or maybe he did and the frostbite caused that face). Not to mention that pretty much every necro upon hitting level 30 offers his soul to the underworld in exchange for almost unlimited power and possible eternal life by turning into a lich…

So despite very little attention being put on it because of other stuff going on in GW2, it was kinda a “big” initial issue in GW to that everyone just said kitten it we got tattoos, fedoras, spikes, fishnets, top hats and fancy BDSM outfits; necros are still technically in the evil side of the moral spectrum, just moved from lawful to neutral/tame or chaotic, kinda same with mesmers and their always chaotic alignment. For the controversy id rather ask what the hell is in the engie elixirs and how exactly are we fine with letting rangers mind control the spirits of the environment now or even letting mesmers distort the particles of a person and turn them into a moa than oh someone gave a pile of decaying flesh basic motoric functions and a “mind” that is dumber than my pocket watch…

Necromancers are not actually evil. It is just that we understand the meaning of “sacrifice” a lot better than other people.

For example the GW1’s Blood is Power. The necro is killing 1/3 of himself to give his allies energy. Most people will see that as madness. Necro see that as a worthy sacrifice. We are willing to sacrifice everything for that extra inch of power.

It is the same thing when we look at the world and politics. If sacrificing 10 innocent people will save 10,000 people, a necro would do it in a heart beat. A warrior might refuse to sacrifice anyone, trying to save everyone, and ends up getting 10,000 people killed.

Necromancers also see death on a whole different level. That explains why they are so different from everyone else.

It is common knowledge that necro spells have underwhelming animations. We don’t summon giant fireballs. We don’t summon a spell book. etc.

So what necro needs is animation of “Magic Symbols” when we cast a spell. It just make everything look more powerful. (see below)

It fits the necro theme, because the magic symbols are usually linked with the dark arts.

For one, we really have no idea how the Foefire spell actually worked. I doubt Adelbern did either, if he even knew that Magdaer could do that in the first place, since he was in no way an master spellcaster when he was alive. By the end of his life, he was a 79 year old half mad warrior king that struck his magic sword against the ground in a fit of rage.

Even if the Ascalonians did some how pull off the Foefire in the Charr homeland, it wouldn’t have done much. Unless of course, the Foefire could cover a landmass much larger than it did with Ascalon. The Charr empire was huge in gw1, and is even larger in gw2, since they gained Ascalon. If the Foefire wiped out the Blood Legion homelands, it wouldn’t have saved Ascalon. The Charr still have a large unknown portions of controlled land east of the Blazeridge Mountains.

It might postpone Ascalon’s destruction for a couple of years, at most a decade, but the Charr would have still destroyed Ascalon in the end.

Foefire was only 1 single spell. That’s the power of just 1 forbidden magic spell. Imagine a full out research on all forbidden magic by all the mages in Ascalon.

Forbidden magic are much more powerful than the so-called legal magic. We have seen this time and time again. Searing >>>> Firestorm. Zhaitan’s undead >>>> Necro’s minions. etc. Obviously this kind of power have significant military value.

Ascalon with forbidden magic would be stronger than Ascalon without. This is a 100% fact. Whatever they would win at the end or not cannot be debated, because it never happened that way. All we can look for is the future. Let’s not let history repeat itself. Against overwhelming threats, we need forbidden magic. That’s all this humble necromancer is saying. ^^

Why in the world are they buffing the server that’s already winning? They should buff the losing server, if anything else.

Please fix before the start of the league. Anet themselves said that “during league season, no changes to WvW will happen until the end of the league season.” So please fix this before its too late.

I think you are giving The Order too much credit in that regard. The were a group, maybe a secretive guild(?), of spellcasters, seemingly mostly necromancers, that studied magic and policed the actions of their members. Even if they did allow its members to study the forbidden magics, and kill portions of the remaining meager population of Ascalon to perform/hone the spells, I very much doubt that would have saved them from the full might of the Charr forces. Not to mention, people don’t really buy the “for the greater good” argument when their friends and family can taken away to be killed and studied for horrific magical experimentation.

On a side note, when did Adelbern have anything to do with the Order? Even more so, that he followed their rules when it came to magic? Adelbern was very much a warrior in GW1. The only magic trick he seemed to know, was strengthening Magdaer with a conjure flame spell.

It will make a huge difference. For example if Magdaer was sneaked into Charr homeland and Foefire was used there instead, Ascalon would be saved.

Saying Verata was right in doing what he did is like saying the Inquest are the good guys.

Think about it. Ascalon could have survived. Thousands of lives would have been saved.

In the face of threats like Elder Dragons and other foes like Scarlet, isn’t it foolish to keep banning those so-called forbidden magic? Must the story of Ascalon repeat itself, on a much larger scale this time?

Obviously I am not saying the main character should agree to this. But it actually makes a lot of sense for some NPCs to feel this way.

“The few must be sacrificed for the survival of many.”

That’s the type of anti-villain I want to see.

Lore: I am pretty sure the souls of the missing villagers are indeed in those golems. But at the end of the day, those golems are stronger fighters than when they were human, yes?

Villain: Use those golems for his personal power.
Anti-Villain: One golem can save 10 humans. His sacrifice was worth it.

Kaineng has had this coming for months.

We lost our bandwagon back in like, April-May. This is a second exodus completely unrelated to it. Not that it has anything to do with the leagues (it might, might not), just thought I’d point that out. But hey, I’ll continue to abide people telling us we deserve an emptying server for no reason other than some kind of weird, months-old revenge plot against people that haven’t been here for nearly half a year.

Third exodus for Kaineng actually. >_>

Remember that Kaineng used to be the bottom of tier 8. Now it has less population than that. Skills that the players obtained might help a bit, but all signs indicate tier 8 once again.

Get out guys. Get your friends and guild all out of there.

Rising undead is actually not that hard in the lore. The reason why none of the “good” necromancers do it is because its illegal. For undead to work, the necromancer must force the spirit of the dead back into a body, usually against that spirit’s free will.

For example, let’s say you want to bring an ancient mage back from the dead. Well you can reanimate that body, but it is useless unless that body knows the spells it used to know. For that to happen, you must bring the spirit of that mage back into his body. His knowledge and experience is required for that undead mage to be just as effective as when he was alive.

But why would that mage want to help you fight? He has been happy in the underworld for ages.

Ritualists in GW1 did bypass this by asking help from their ancestors. Their ancestors were “glad” to help them, for a short amount of time.

Minions are soulless. They are just golems, made of fresh of the dead. They are not undead in any way.

Well it should be obvious now that The Order was wrong in banning forbidden magic. If they lifted those bans after The Searing, Ascalon could still be saved. Adelbern followed those rules till the very end, when he broke them in a spectacular fashion in the Foefire.

Verata was right for breaking away from The Order. Being the strongest magical race has always been human’s birth right. It was a mistake to set up any sort of limit.

As for the test subjects, “The few must be sacrificed for the survival of many.”

I think everyone needs to keep in mind…. that Anet’s current most skill-indexed compromise between “Strong mobs” and “Numerous” mobs right now, is the Balthazar Escort where ironically, the “Numerous” are required for the event to succeed by NOT NUKING them too quickly, otherwise the squishy NPC’s that make up the “fail condition”, will rush forward into the Wells generated by a single “Strong Mob”.

IE: Be very careful what you ask for. … Tequatl soon be may be another example of this if there is a real and palpable Fail-STATE to it hinging on management of the “Numerous” mobs. And yes, people asked for this. Lots and lots of people.

We will judge that after they release more Numerous Mob encounters.

So… much… Electric Guitar…!

You DO people realize that this game takes place between a Medieval and Renaissance period of time...

If you noticed my choices in the first post I avoided obviously electronic music, with the exception of Asura high teck areas, and even then, I avoided cliche songs like metal.

Also, please try to picture the scene with your music in background, and how much tension can each area have in any given moment.
There is a reason I only suggested music for Dungeons because the tension in dungeon-runs is almost always high, so fast music fits well there.
The outside world needs calmer music that at any moment can become fast and loud in case you are engaged in combat or an event!
Especially in Cities! Thankfully none suggested anything extreme here… yet!

The fact that another game used this music in a similar environment doesn’t mean that it’ll also fit here.

Final Fantasy has been using guitar for ages. I like that music style. But of course each to their own.

And for that very reason part of me hopes they never develop it. I want to know more about the tower, but I know that mystery can be so much more powerful than details.

Already some of the suggestions in this thread have made my heart sink. It’d be very sad if the potential of the wizard’s tower were thrown away on a base for Scarlet, for example. Is there anything in there that wouldn’t be a little bit of a let-down compared to our imaginations running wild with possibilities?

How about using my fan fiction story. Just make Thirteenth that wizard/witch. Done.

Again this is fine as long as rewards get moved away from mobs drops, right now that’s where 90%+ of the loot comes from, and you get situations were the fodder gets farmed for it’s loot.

And I never said the fodder mobs kill anyone, hell no one actually dies in a zerg, zergs trivialize content that way.

And no lol, people don’t run out of aoe’s. Axe warriors spam massive aoe dmg non stop, Staff Guardians do too, lots of aoe’s have small cooldowns.

Again I don’t have a problem with this as long as they remove loot from mobs and put all of it in victory of said event.

Player reward is always a hard subject to tackle. The solution that I thought up is a “Drop Rate Timer” (DRT). Its actually similar to the current kill experience system that GW2 have. Basically you get a bonus for killing mobs that you hasn’t killed for a while, and that bonus decreases as you kill more.

Let’s say you haven’t killed any mob for a while. The first mob you kill have a 200% drop rate (double the normal). Now you are in DRT level 1, which reduces the drop rate by 20%. Then a 5 second timer starts.

If you kill another mob within this 5 seconds, that mob would have 180% drop rate, and you reach DRT level 2. The next mob you kill in the next 5 seconds would have a 160% drop rate, and you reach DRT level 3, etc.

Let’s say after DRT level 3, you did not kill any mobs in the next 5 seconds. At the end of that 5 seconds, you go back to DRT level 2. etc.

The highest level of DRT is level 10, which means the drop rate on mobs will be only 10% normal (The final DRT level 10 only decrease the drop rate by 10%, instead of the 20%. This ensure that the player still have 10% drop rate at least.) At DRT level 10, it will take 10X5=50 seconds to fully recover back to DRT level 0 (200% drop rate on the next mob).

Boss drop rates is not affected by DRT at all. It is totally separated to ensure that the player get 100% chance at the loot.

This should fix the “mob AoE tagging” problem in terms of rewards. A possible side benefit would be that this counters bot farming.

Going of topic, sorry.

So what is the motivation to keep fighting after the first couple of seconds? There is also not much reason to do anything besides autoattack since that will ensure a steady rate of killing for the best reward.

The reward is completing the world event and get those boss rewards. In my example we have 8 mini bosses and 1 ultimate boss. That would yield 8 regular chests and 1 omega chest. Those should be more that enough reward. Trash mobs doesn’t need to reward much, and they shouldn’t.

Since the players might not be able to tag all 9 bosses in the fight, they should have those 9 chests spawn at the very end at the same time. So everyone involved gets the same reward.

Those Scarlet invasion suffers from the problem, where killing mobs rewards higher than completing the event itself.

I did an invasion event in Gendarren Fields last night. I’m not sure how many players a zone will allow before the game starts sending people into an overflow. Whatever that number is, it seems like all of them were at one portal event. If you were not in range of a Champion Twisted Nightmare when it spawned, you had maybe 5-6 seconds to get in range and get hits in before it died. The lag was … well, I haven’t really had lag in GW2 since the Karka attack inside Lions Arch.

If I had to guess, I’d say that there were well over 100 there. It’s my hope that the number was not 80, for obvious, incoming reasons.

That’s because those Champion Twisted Nightmare is never much of a threat. It is almost impossible to get killed by it. Bosses like Molten Berserker is very different. The players would have to dodge that Fiery Shockwave or be killed.

Same thing with the likes of Gaheron Baelfire. Dodge out of those rolling rocks or be killed. Those walls that he builds would be very interesting in a open world event, specially when mixed with the Molten Berserker’s Fiery Shockwave.

100s of mobs, Molten Berserker, Gaheron Baelfire, and other bosses. I can see it now. Epic! Its gonna be a party.

“He got resurrected by Scarlet. That’s the whole reason why the Flame Legion allied themselves with her. "
