Another related idea. How about change Gluttony to the following:
Gluttony – Increases life force gain from skills by 10%. You gain 3/4 second of invulnerability each time you enters Death Shroud.
Description: This invulnerability is very hard to use because of its short duration. The player would have to time this properly. But it can also be reapplied every 7 seconds with the Near to Death trait.

But we are fighting the SKY PIRATES! What’s the point of calling them sky pirates if we only ever fight them on the ground? Might as well call them PORTAL PIRATES since that’s where they came from.
Can we please get Eve back at some point? Every hero needs a crazy necro around to keep them in check. If Livia is alive, Eve is more alive than her. No one beats Eve in entertainment value. She have some of the best queues in gaming history. Bring her back pretty please!

“The power released at the moment the Lich died was incredible. Such a force. It was amazing.”
“The stench of death is all over this city. I find it quite refreshing. Coming to visit here was a much better idea than I ever thought. This is my kind of place. A girl could get into all kinds of trouble around here. How delightful!”
“Surely you don’t fear children’s stories? Undead armies that hunger for mortal flesh, clawing their way out of the grave with the fanatic, blind will to serve… Withered husks of desiccated zombies, shredding flesh with unrelenting, claw-like fingers… The beauty of a stilled, yet ever-screaming heart… Such things frighten you? How sad. You really need to get out more.”
“I admire creatures who live in these cold mountains. Monsters everywhere, little food, and every night they go to sleep wondering if they’ll freeze to death. It’s not their bravery I admire… it’s the constant supply of corpses.”
“I’ve always liked Ascalon’s vibe. You may not like the Charr, but any gardener will tell you that ash makes things grow.”
“It’s not too late, Adam. Don’t talk like that. Not everyone’s going to die. Ssh. You wouldn’t want them to. Oh, hello there. What were you saying?”
“I’ve asked Grenth. He says he can get me out of this. The rest of you are pretty much shafted.”
“I don’t know what’s more enjoyable: the wedding itself or waiting to see how long it takes Cynn to light Mhenlo on fire!”
“I hear the cold can slow the heart and keep a dying man alive for a very long time.”
“I wonder how long someone could live after being submerged up to the neck in lava.”
“If I get lost out here, don’t come looking.”
“The Kurzicks are much like necromancers. Creating life where there is only death.”
“All men dream, but not equally. Some dream by night, and find only vanity. But the dreamers of the day are dangerous. They make their dreams come true.”
“Hmmm. I wonder if that body I buried a few years ago is somewhere around here. I need to check the status of its decomposition.”
“Come, let me touch you.”
“I don’t want you until your heart stops.”
“Grenth calls for us all. Some he just calls for earlier than others.”
“You’ll make a lovely corpse.”
“Don’t worry, I’m only going to kill you. It could be worse.”
“Life is a lot like music. All songs end.”
“Do you mind if I Hex you with something?”
“Don’t be scared. You’ll only be dead for a moment.”
“Don’t worry. If Mhenlo can’t resurrect you, I will.”
“Friend, foe… it makes no difference once you’re dead.”
“Today is the first day of the rest of your death!”
“Why torment yourself? Let me do that.”

Konig I think we are talking about the same thing. Without suffering, we won’t know how Scarlet would have reacted. And so we won’t know her flaws.
I agree that it just comes down to a lack of depth at the end. Her whole backstory just shows how “flawless” she was in everything.
What really doesn’t sit well with me is EVERYONE she met in the past LIKED her. They all cannot wait to be her mentor and teach her stuff. Seriously? Even Angelina Jolie (awesome mother, great actress, love to donate and volunteer) has enemies and people who don’t like her.
There’s degrees. People who like her would want to mentor her. People who don’t like her don’t get mentioned for obvious reasons. People don’t usually burn down people they don’t like as you may think. If they ignored Scarlet, as I do with people I don’t like, they wouldn’t be part of the story.
tl;dr there’s a huge difference between not liking someone and hating someone. You don’t seem to grasp that.
And for someone as “smart” and “show off” as Scarlet, how in the world is NO ONE jealous of her? When she was in Asura land, that whole class should be burning her homework behind her back and picking on her. They should be banging at her door every single night to distract her sleep. etc.
No idea what asura land looks like, but in Europe, that behaviour isn’t nearly as common as it is in Hollywood movies.
You don’t like her. Others do. Same goes for Trahearne. No amounts of text is going to change your or my opinion. We can, at best, agree to disagree.
If we see bullying in real life, why can’t Scarlet be bullied? She is a huge show off and pretty much asking to be bullied. I won’t feel sorry for her because she would have deserved it.
Abaddon is a better villain than Scarlet, without saying a word.

Human Mesmer
Norn Warrior or Guardian
Asura Engineer
Sylvari Ranger
Charr Elementalist
Over 30 years passed, and his father lies dying. He handed Abby the letter from her mother, and explained the history to her. Before he passes he said “You are human, and will always be human, no matter what other people say. Never forget that. I love you.”
Abby would travel from town to town, to hide the fact that she never ages. Although beautiful, she rejected all her suitors because she cannot deal with losing a loved one again to aging.
Abby would stay in Kourna until 1135AE, when it felt to Palawa Joko. She used her imbued animals to fight against Joko’s forces. But the animals were limited, even with magic. With her village trapped, she asks the people if they wanted to live. When they all said yes, she imbued all of them with magic. Abby has never done this, since in the back of her head she knew this is a terrible thing to do to a human.
Purple magic grows with each of them, and they all transformed. And they fought back against the undead, powerful and magical like the Margonites of old. However they were nowhere near as powerfully as Abby, and they were eventually overran by Joko’s undead.
She was forced to escape to Kryta. It became clear to her that humans are weak, and needs protection. Margonites, as powerful as they are, is not enough. And the magic would disfigure them to the point that they are no longer human. Powers that are given externally will always be limited. To defend humanity, she would need an army of humans who are born just like her; born naturally with Abaddon’s power. She needs people who are born fully human and fully magical at the same time.
She started spying on the towns and bethels. Many women got unwanted pregnancy. She would target those that wanted an abortion and kidnap them. Then she imbued her magic into these mothers. Some mothers died in the process. Other would successfully give birth to a child. These children would grow into powerful beings that are stronger than Margonites. However they don’t have the foreknowledge of magic spells that Abby enjoyed, so she had to teach them. She called them Angels, and most of them see her as their queen.
Years later, Abby’s Angels and Margonites eventually grow into a small but elite force. Some Margonites started worshipping Abby as a god, which angered Abby a great deal. “I am a human! All Angels are humans! Only a human can love humanity enough to defend it!” No Margonite dared to repeat this again, although some Angels don’t really see themselves as humans.
Some Angels decided to leave the group and live with human sociality. Abby let them go, for “having free will is part of being human.” Some Angels married each other, and some married humans. The marriage with humans usually falls apart as soon as they found out that the Angels doesn’t age past 20. Some of them have off springs, and they are just as powerful as first generation Angels. It seems after the first generation, Abby’s infusing of the mother is no longer required.
Abby meet Livia and other Shining Blade mages by seemingly accident. In truth, Abby was drawn to the group by the Scepter of Orr, which emits magic that Abby cannot resist to approach. After some conversations, the two groups find many similarities in their thinking. And so they joined with each other. Livia and others do the field work, while Abby focused on strengthening the Angel army, to be deployed to save humanity when the time comes.
However, will the Angels truly become the defender of humanity that she had hoped? Or will they become mankind’s worst nightmare?
Erinyes’ stance on this remains the same. “Humans must rely on themselves, not other races, for survival.” For now, they view Angels as part of humanity. Although some members is already preparing for the worst.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
Hidden Agenda.
1) Project Angelos – The ultimate goal of the Erinyes is the Project Angelos: forming an army of human/god hybrid large enough to defend humanity forever against any threat. To understand this, one must read the background story:
During the war with Abaddon, many Kournan solders were turned into Margonite. Among those was a female soldier who was already pregnant. Not sure what would happen, she went into hiding. The Kournan army tried to hunt her down as a deserter but couldn’t find her.
She gave birth to a child, being the first Margonite to do so. The baby girl looks fully human on the outside. The mother named her Abbania (Abby for short) in memory of her beloved god. She eventually sneaks her child back to her husband at home, who wasn’t part of the war. She wrote him a letter explaining the situation. Being too ashamed of her looks as a Margonite, the mother went away and was not seen again since.
Moments before Abaddon fell, a very small part of his consciousness went looking for a host for the last bit of his existence. He got many followers, but he was too weak to enter any adult’s mind. Finally he found Abby, an innocent child, and enters into her. The weakened Abaddon soon lost himself, and he became one mind with Abby.
Abby is clearly magically gifted. A purple magic aura will often surround her. When she is happy, the aura would be warm to the touch. When she is sad, the aura would be cold as ice. When she is angry, the aura would be fiery hot. Still, her loving father brought her up to the best he can.
Her father noticed that her power was linked to her emotions. As a result, one of the first things her father taught her was to control her emotions. They would spend hours mediating and deep thinking. Eventually Abby mastered her emotions. To others, she became cold, logical and calculating. But because of her control, she went though school without anyone noticing that she was different (other than being quiet).
The second thing her father taught her was that she is human. Kourna after the war was a very rough place to be. After experiencing many things, he told her that being good and being evil is often purely based on opinion. But one thing is certain: A human must do what’s right for the longevity of humanity. All else will be justified.
Abby had a powerful connection with magic without her understand why. She often knows spells that no one else does. All the spells they taught in school were already known to her. Among her powers is the ability to imbue magic into others. She once imbued a Moa with her powers, and the Moa started using magic. That Moa became her pet. She can’t remember where she learnt these powers, but they just seem to come naturally for her. She also found herself stopped aging once she reached 20 years old.
There were a few times when people witnessed her powers. And each time her and her father would pack up and move to a different town.
I am sure many people here have excellent ideas on new organizations and groups in the GW2 universe. They can be both good and bad guys. I am very interested to hear them.
Please include 3 parts of your description:
1) Introduction – how would this organization gets introduced to the players?
2) Objectives and Beliefs – what is this group fighting for? What do that value?
3) Hidden agenda (optional) – This is the part that was hidden from the player until later on. This is the ultimate shocker of this group.
After reading each organization, feel free to rate them. When rating, please use the following 3 categories on a 1 to 10 scale:
1) Writing, Creativity and Originality– How good do you think this group is, in terms of design.
2) Lore friendliness – How well does this group fit into the existing GW2 universe.
3) Fitting into the game – Do you want this group to actually be in the game?
I will start. ^^
Group Name: Erinyes.
Known Members: Livia, Evennia, Anise, Abbania.
Leader: Unknown.
Introduction:
Queen Jennah and the players were fighting another powerful enemy (e.g. Minister Caudecus’ forces). The good guys were on the verge of defeat when 2 powerful mages appeared and, along with Anise, saved the queen. The enemies were forced to retreat.
The group introduced themselves as Erinyes. Anise admitted to being part of this organization, and formed a three-man team with Livia and Evennia. They said they are the secret guardians of humanity, with ensuring the survival of humanity as their sole purpose.
When questioned, Livia also admitted to being 300 years old. When ask if she used blood sacrifices as rumored, she simply smiled and said “Death and sacrifice are a part of human existence. The lives of many outweigh the few.” Logan Thackeray charged forward to attack the three, but stopped when Livia finished by saying “You yourself sacrificed Snaff for Queen Jennah. You should understand this more than anyone else here.”
The group said that, currently, having Queen Jennah as the leader of the humans is the best course of action. But they warned that if Queen Jennah ever does anything foolish to risk humanity, they will come for her too. When asked, they gave three examples: 1) Relying on Charrs for human’s defense. 2) Relying on technology for human’s defense. 3) Maintaining the ban on forbidden magic in the face of Elder Dragons.
Objectives and Beliefs:
1) Survival of humanity – The group started as loyal defenders of the Krytan throne. However over the years they changed their goal, especially after seeing the likes of Prince Edair fighting over the throne. They realize then that throne changes from person to person, good or bad, and hence its not a reliable pillar for the survival of humanity. Only centuries old mages like the Erinyes can defend humanity constantly, so they set out to become that pillar for humanity themselves.
They are firm believers in sacrificing the few for the survival of many.
2) Annihilate infighting of humans as quickly as they start – The unity of humans is very important. So its Erinyes’ goal to end any sort of infighting or civil war with lightning speed. They would pick a side that they deemed better for the future of humanity, and quickly destroy the fighting power of the other side.
3) Distrust of other races – Erinyes believes that humans should rely on themselves for survival, not other races. That is especially true for the Charr, which they think will resume their war against the humans as soon as the Elder Dragons are defeated. However they also believe that fate will play itself out without influence, so they are not outright hostile to the Charrs. They would sit back and wait until the Charrs actually attack humans.
4) View on technology and magic– Erinyes believes magic to be superior over technology in every way. Furthermore they believe it is humanity’s destiny to fully embrace magic; Magic and Body into one single being. Being forbidden magic users themselves, they would of course hope to lift the ban on these spells.

More examples. The biggest the attack (and damage), the more the visual cue have to be so the players know they must dodge this or die.
The best way to is add a 1 second vigor to those traits that give a necromancer another boon.
Spiteful Spirit – Gain retaliation for 3 seconds and vigor for 1 second when entering Death Shroud.
Furious Demise - Gain fury for 5 seconds and vigor for 1 second when entering Death Shroud.
Foot in the Grave – Gain stability for 3 seconds and vigor for 1 second when you enter death shroud.
The vigor will stack. So if traited fully, a necro can gain up to 3 seconds of vigor by entering death shroud. This will give necro a way to avoid those 1 hit kill attacks in high tier dungeons.
It is hard to relate him to Scarlet
Yet I still did, using the same categories you used to find Scarlet as a bad character, because they share a lot of characteristics.
The reasons you listed why Voldemort can’t relate to Scarlet is part of his backstory and his motives. Something he didn’t get until later in the book series. Heck, in book one, he was only just a powerful evil wizard that killed Harry’s parents. We didn’t really get to know his history and motives until book four and beyond.
So, I’ll ask you this question: why can’t the same be true for Scarlet? We only just met her. She is a new character. One that we have a far, far, from complete backstory on, and we have absolutely no idea what her true motives are.
How is she any different than any other villain in the beginning? It takes time to fully flesh out a character.
She is too young, and have a childhood which we already know 100%, that’s her problem.
Voldemort, although we know nothing about him initially, is much older. That means there is “room” for his back story to grow. Scarlet is what like 5 years old? How much life experience could she have had?
To make matters worst, her “childhood” was spent in the comfort of the Pale Tree so there is zero chance of a story growing there.
I read a poster stated that Scarlet would be 100 times better by simply being Asuran. This is actually true. If Scarlet was an Asuran adult, then she would have had 20+ years of life experience. And there is room for a backstory of an “interesting” childhood. And all these technology stuff fits an Asuran MUCH better.
Sylvari actually is the worst race to develop a backstory, because their childhood have a 100% chance of being comfortable within the Pale Tree. Its only been 24 years since the beginning of the Pale Tree, that means the oldest Sylvari are only 24 years old. And those Firstborns are limited to 12 members.
TBH I don’t care about Scarlet anymore. I personally think the background she was placed in have already limited her to be a very shallow villain. I just want Anet to design their future villains’ background better. You got to give the villain’s story “room to grow”. Give them either life experiences or “interesting” childhood. Scarlet is 5 years old and grow from the comfort of the Pale Tree; No room for the story to grow there.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
Suffering at a young age has nothing to do with making a good villain. Its all about their thought processes and motives. A good villain can start out with an ok childhood, just like a good hero can start with a bad one.
Lets use your “Villain Sue” checklist against a very popular villain… Lord Voldemort.
-Suffered nothing in childhood. He grew up in a orphanage. Not an ideal upbringing, but he suffered very little. If anything, he was the one to make all the other children suffer.
-Suffered nothing in adulthood. He was a well liked member of the community. They also thought he would do well in the ministry, maybe even make Minister.
-Surrounded by nice people and mentors that showed and taught him things. Tom Riddle was charismatic. He was able to charm all the teachers, other then Dumbledore, into basically giving him whatever he wanted.
-Cared for by a loving mother. He had none, but neither did Scarlet. The Pale Tree is there, giving comfort to those who seek it, but she is always at a distance. She rarely interferes into her children’s lives. Something that Scarlet preferred, since she neither liked, loved, or cared for the Pale Tree, and she wanted nothing to do with the being.
-Betrayed his “mentor”. I put mentor in quotes for a reason. Neither Tom Riddle or Scarlet have mentors, since they never trust anyone or view anyone as their betters. They only see them as a means to an end. That end being increasing their power or wealth of knowledge. Anyway, he betrayed Slughorn’s trust after he asked for information on the horcruxes. All for the greater purpose of his path towards of immortality and power.
-Looked down on everyone. Need I say anything?
-Became smarter than everyone else, in an incredibly short amount of time. Again, true for neither of them, since they were both born naturally intelligent. Tom Riddle was naturally gifted with both his intelligence and charisma, and Scarlet was born with a deep understanding on the interconnectivity of all things and how they effect one another. Hence, her deep understanding of engineering and the College of Synergetic’s study of the Eternal Alchemy .
-Raised an army from nothing, in an incredibly short amount of time. Lord Voldemort was able to create the Knights of Walpurgis, the precursor of the Death Eaters, from his followers at Hogwarts.
-Invented weapons that defied logic. Numerous dark spells and rituals. Not to mention, the grand total of 7 horcruxes. Something that was mindboggling and never heard of before.
So, by your definition, Lord Voldemort is a horrible character, and JK should be ashamed for writing him.
The character of Voldemort comes down to four things:
1) Crazy family – He is a descendant of Salazar Slytherin and the Gaunt, both are known for being a bit crazy and obsessed with blood purity. Intermarriage probably had something to do with that.
2) Revenge for his mother – He killed his biological father and grand parents. It also indirectly led to the demise of his mother’s brother, who opposed the relationship.
3) Fear of personal death – It led him to practise the dark arts. Later he tired to kill Harry and ended up killing Harry’s parents, due to a prophecy.
4) Purity of a wizard’s blood – He believes that pure blood wizards are not only superior, but they should be the rulers over other lessor beings.
It is hard to relate him to Scarlet.
1) Scarlet is not from a crazy family.
2) Scarlet have no reason to revenge against anything.
3) Scarlet fears nothing (so far).
4) Scarlet doesn’t have any personal beliefs in the world and society, other than she is the superior Villain Sue (so far).

I think this is neat..I got the game.. seen the Necromancer pets and sighed.. doesn’t look anything like a Necro would use.. maybe something like a Fleshcrafter or butcher but where are the skellies etc?
Well the flesh golem is our Butcher. But the art of Butcher is much better. >_>
I can write a book about why Scarlet (Villain Sue) is a bad character. But in a nutshell:
“She is way too young, and her childhood too peaceful, to be a good villain.”
If you look at good villains in stories, they are usually 30-40 years old. The have had some tough life experiences. (Someone stole the villain’s wife for example, in Fire Emblem.)
The other alternative is a younger (20-25 years old) villain, who had a terrible horrible childhood to make him/her into what he is today.
1) Young
What kind of people can she meet? What kind of pain did she suffer though? What kind of pain did she saw others suffer?
None. Not much. She is too young to experience enough to be a good villain. That’s why she is so shallow.
2) Horrible childhood
Did Scarlet witness her parents getting killed by corrupt nobles? Did Scarlet suffer abuses in a Brothel as a child?
Nope. She was safe and happy in the tree! What kind of tale can he tell the main character to justify her actions? That’s the 2nd reason why she is so shallow.
Conclusion:
Think about it. Here we have a villain who suffered nothing in childhood. And then went on and suffer nothing in adulthood (because she is so young). Not only this, she meet a ton of NICE PEOPLE along the way. She had like a thousand mentors showing her different skills in the world. And the Pale Tree never gave up on her.
The only possible explanation is she is pretty much an “evil baby” possessed by Satan. That’s the only reason why she is evil.
Villain Sue check list:
-suffered nothing in childhood.
-suffered nothing in adulthood.
-surrounded by nice people and mentors show / taught her things.
-cared by a loving mother figure.
-betrayed her mentor.
-look down on everyone. Evil laugh.
-became smarter than everyone else, in an incredibly short amount of time.
-raised an army from nothing, in an incredibly short amount of time.
-invented weapons that defied logic (became legendarily powerful, in an incredibly short amount of time.
Now I will give an example of a good villain. Nagato from the Naruto series is one of my favourite villains. He seems to kill without remorse, but he actually wants world peace more than anything else. His belief is “One cannot know true peace until they know true pain.”
http://naruto.wikia.com/wiki/Nagato
Now let’s use the Villain Sue test, to show the difference between Nagato and Scarlet.
Villain Sue check list:
-suffered in childhood. (parents killed in front of his eyes.)
-suffered in adulthood. (best friend killed in front of his eyes, by his own hands in a twist of fate.)
-surrounded by a mix of nice people and horrible people, so he gets a view and mix of both.
-cared by a loving fatherly figure and his friends.
-betrayed his mentor for a greater purpose.
-respects everyone, even his enemies. He only kills when he have to, for a greater purpose.
-became “smarter” than everyone else by years of life experience and suffering.
-raised an army after spending years to get supporters to his own point of view.
-became powerful after years of training.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
They also should start introduction Tragic Villians. The world is a cruel place, for both heroes and villains.
For a dark and engaging story, I recommend watching “Walking Dead”, “Game of Thrones” and “Attack on Titan”. Walking Dead and Game of Thrones needs no introduction. Attack on Titan is an anime where the main character suffers defeat after defeat. There is no victory, only death. Nearly everyone around the main character, some were pretty close to him, dies.
Of course, victory will come eventually. But its the suffering and pain that drives the story.
Now back to GW2, and here is the problem. The Elder Dragons are, by far, stronger than the Titans in that anime. But the elder dragon killed VERY FEW PPL when compared to the Titans. If you watch the anime, you will see that many civilians and soldiers died. Whole cities were lay ruined. And there were absolutely nothing the main character can do about it, at that time. Minimize casualty was the only thing they can do.
And you see people with all personality. Some people will go out of their way to help others, only to die. Others are extremely selfish and caused death of others.
And that’s the kind of things that drives a dark story.

I have yet to see an elementalist mob uses Ride the Lightning+Updraft+Shocking Aura+Switch to Water+Frost Aura. This is a very simple and affective combo.
Stuff like this makes the mob AI relevant.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
When this whole sky pirate series started, I was very pleased. I thought finally we will get some ship to ship action, in the sky!
But so far, every single fight from the Aetherblades had been on the ground.
I think its time to get some sky to sky action in. The 100 players on the map gets 10 air ships. The Aetherblades gets 30 airships. Let’s fight it out!
Start off with ranged siege weapon attacks. 15 minutes later it becomes deck to deck fight.
The world event should be conveniently named “Air Superiority”, obviously.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
The main problem that GW2 has an open pve, not like in GW1. And because of that they can’t make mobs as smart as in GW1.
Turning corpg to mmorpg was a huge mistake, imo.
This has nothing to do with open world vs closed world. I mean yes GW2 is a very different game to GW1. But what’s the problem here? The AI should have adopted so they can fight in GW2.
I will simplify and say that:
GW1 mobs were trying to play GW1. They know the rules of the game and do their best with it. Healing is important, so they try to heal. Ressing is important, so they try to res. Interrupt is important, so they try to interrupt.
GW2 mobs have no idea what they are doing. What kite? What snare? What dodge? What combo fields? GW2 mobs weren’t playing GW2. They were playing their own “unique” game where they have 10 times the health, 10 times the damage and immune to snares when compared to their human enemies.
(edited by CHIPS.6018)
The problem is Scarlet already crossed that line of being an anti-villain. She often make fun of her enemies and view them as lesser beings. She kill because it is fun.
If she really wanted to save the world, she would have been a lot more humble. She only kill because it was necessary.
I always wonder how the feed their army. Do they loot and steal? If so, the invasions isn’t enough for them. They must have a home base somewhere.
I like it when evils fight each other.
No minion is ok.
No staff (best AoE weapon) is much harder.
I think many here have no idea what a haunted doll look like. They are actually pretty scary and a skill line of Spirit Dolls would fit the necro theme perfectly.

Nice job!
1000 char
Isgarren = scarlet
I rather that Isgarren is Mhenlo, who turned evil after Cynn died a tragic death.
Like I said a thousand times, they should increase the spawn rate of Teq to 48 times a day, twice an hour.
All in all, I just want them to improve the AI, and then reduce the mob’s stats back down to a relevant level to the human players.
Forget elder dragons. I want to get inside Wizard’s Tower.
I won’t replace minions with dolls. However they can consider creating a whole new skill line call “Spirit Dolls” or something.
The fights in GW2 is bad because the mobs stopped being relevant to player’s health and damage. That means the horrible AI in GW2 was covered up by mob’s overwhelming health and damage.
For more details read my other thread.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/GW2-AI-is-worst-than-GW1-AI
To me, the biggest problem with fights in GW2 is a lack of relevance to the player’s health and damage. And to that end, the biggest problem with GW2 is that the mob AI is a lot worst than the GW1 AI. The horrible AI in GW2 was simply covered up by mob’s overwhelming health and damage.
Back in GW1, the mobs would at least try to use skills that are available to the players. Only a few mobs have monster only skills. And the monster’s damage and health are only slightly higher than the players for the most part. Being this relevant, the monster AI had to be decent in order to provide the player a challenge. GW1 mobs would at least try to kite from you when they are hurt, for example.
In GW2, it is all about monster only skills and giving monsters unfair advantage.
The monster is too dumb to bring stability? No problem, we give them 60 stacks of Defiant.
The monster is too dumb to kite and too dumb to heal? No problem we give them 10 times the health of a regular player.
The monster is too dumb to snare, bring speed buffs and hit the player? No problem we give them massive damage, sometimes one hit kill.
I am sure most of you agree that the average mob in GW2 have zombie level of intelligence.
What makes an mob intelligent? It honestly doesn’t have to be that complicated. I will speak for the necro mob AI, since necro is my more familiar profession.
-Using Plague #2 to blind the players, while the rest of the mob group attack the players.
-Dagger necro with Spectral Grasp, Spectral Walk, Signet of Spite and Flesh Golem (charge) to keep the humans close by.
-Corrosive Poison Cloud, Epidemic and staff for AoE.
-Randomly cast Flesh Wurm, and use it to escape randomly.
-Use Death Shroud.
Necro mob should use necro skills. For example I don’t think I have seen any necro mob using Death Shroud, the biggest thing for the necromancer.
Another thing is “mob unit”. Back in GW1 the mobs would at least try to fight as a team. They would heal each other. They would buff each other. The would resurrect each other. etc. In GW2 there are mobs that are in a group. But they don’t fight as a unit at all. They just each do their own thing during the fight.
Conclusion:
-mob AI needs major improvement. They need to starting acting more human like. For example Anet should observe how a human players plays a necro, and then make the necro AI accordingly.
-mobs need to be relevant to the players, just like GW1. That means using skills that a player can use, having similar health and damage. Mob of a profession need to start using skills from that profession, not some monster only skills.
-Mob units need to fight as a team, just like GW1.

The 6 gods are dead because of Scarlet. She killed them all at the same time. She is that strong.
Yes we need more bosses like Teq. I would increase his spawn rate though just to let people try him more often. This will also help move the players along, to reduce the overflow problem.
As of right now, Champions gets 1 stack of Defiant per player in the area. That means with 50 players, they will get 50 stacks of Defiant after ONE crowd control success.

I am guessing the original idea was to have every player bring a crowd control skill in order to crowd control the boss. But it isn’t working at all. When a champion have 50+ stacks of Defiant, the players simply give up and never bother with crowd control skills. The champion is in effect immune to crowd control. (See pic)
What they should do instead is, the champion starts off with 0 Defiant. But every time the champion gets “successfully” crowd controlled, he gets a fixed amount of 2 stacks of Defiant (instead of scaling with the players, 50 for example). This means crowd control only works on the boss at a fixed rate of 33% of the time.

They should have cut scenes showing dialogues between villains to villains. The players can learn so much of the lore from them.
So once again the stupid good guys have to react to the genius Scarlet’s next move. Sun Tzu will blow up if he sees this. The victor make the enemy move to where he wants the enemy to go, not the other way around.
Just killed Teq in an overflow with the Overflow One[Teq] guild and many others, with over 2 minutes to spare.

Yes Redscope that’s exactly what I meant. Champions and veterans are unnamed mobs. I want to see more unique named bosses with unique skills in world events. Hopefully some that we saw in dungeons before, so we are better prepared for them. We will be fighting these named bosses alongside the main world boss.
Imaging a boss uses the tiniest dagger ever. He casually walks over, stabs you, and you took 30k damage and died. How would you feel?
I think the animations of the bosses right now doesn’t look epic enough. As a player, if I am going to die from one hit kill 30k damage attacks, I want whatever hitted me to look like 30k damage worthy. I want to get hit by the biggest sword in the world. I want to get hit by the biggest energy beam I have ever seen. Then the death doesn’t look as bad.
Examples:
Small bosses (Scarlet, etc)

Huge bosses (Elder dragons, etc)

ANet could of course remedy it all by having Scarlet seduce Trahearne so we could fight and kill him.
Killing both Scarlet and Trahearne at the same time? Shut up and take my money!
If an asura can weild a giant sword I think a Necro can.
We dont even need to, a giant demon or one of the reapers from the underworld can hold it for us, i mean if mesmers can trick gravity itself then why can we abuse our connection to spirits for physical tasks?
You mean something like this? It would be cool to look at for sure. Doesn’t even have to hurt that much. :P
