So even if the precursor collections would cost twice as much as currently, it would be awesome and still be the best change we get with HoT!

it may be somewhat possible to tank, though it would not be anywhere like a trinity game.
for a start: what is tanking but a form of control? you are preventing people from being hit by making them hit the toughest group member instead of the squishies.
in that vein, look at Retribution Revenant.
they are the only class besides ranger with an on demand taunt, and a low CD one at that (8s I believe). they have the highest base armor, second highest base vit, and fight at close range, so 2/3 of the things that make the class “innately threatening” to enemies, only warrior or someone building for toughness or vitality would be superior.
they have a trait line that almost entirely revolves around dodging and being hit (including the minor adept trait, that lets you dodge more when you get hit), with traits that either improve taunt (taunt when the get CCed, double duration taunt and taunted enemies do less damage to them), or somehow boost their defenses
everything about them just screams “tank”, or, for those who hate the trinity because it does things to your mother and you have a burning hatred for it because of that: “control via misdirection and mitigation”
they can’t just stand there and facetank, their traits won’t let them, and they aren’t 100% efficient at tanking, there WILL be some downtime unless you get multiple revenants, but it IS an option, which is what GW2 is about, OPTIONS, not killing the trinity at the expense of all else, but making it so you don’t NEED a trinity, people need to remember that.
edit:
for an example of “nonrequired tanks” look at Monster Hunter, you can build your armor to have Taunt or Sneak, each of which makes you 20% more or less likely to be targeted, in effct, making a single person “the tank” (they get targeted 40% more), it makes some monsters MUCH easier by having an experienced person tank rather than letting the monster run wild (it will still flatten the tank in a second if they don’t dodge though, hence the “experienced” requirement), conversely, it’s possible to play support, though they are still expected to bring damage, they can build their armor to make their healing items work in an AoE, letting them heal someone who is in the middle of a “you will die without intervention” combo, who could not otherwise heal themself, they can also bring buffs to the table like the MH versions of stablity, might, and protection.
nobody will yell at you because you are ultimately assisting in the survivability of the group, despite not building for pure glass cannon as is the norm
(edited by Calcifire.1864)
I’d love a headstart too, but only if Herald can be unlocked with it too.
why?
Why not?
because then other classes would (quite rightly) complain that we are getting things before them. stop being greedy.
the point would be a level playing field, not an advantage. we don’t even know HOW the elite specs are unlocked yet, they may require HoT story progress (eg, the first chapter of the HoT intro missions complete), which would make unlocking the elite impossible anyway
(edited by Calcifire.1864)
I’d love a headstart too, but only if Herald can be unlocked with it too.
why?
the point of a headstart would be to get everyone on a level playing field, as if they were any other class, not to let revenants get ahead.
I hope we do get a headstart, this month is going to be torture, I’ve already got all my stuff prepared, so doing things on my necro feels like a waste, every soulbound thing I get is like a twist of a knife that says “you could have got this on your revenant”, I can’t even start making ascended gear for my rev because I need armor and weaponsmithing, so making ascended mats feels like “what a waste, you could have used those mats to level your Rev’s 400-500 crafting” T_T
in every single mention of GW2’s trinity, they always mention “damage/support/control”
guess what? those are just abstractions on top of DPS/Heal/Tank
Damage is obvious, so I won’t go into it
Support is boons, debilitating conditions, and HEALING
Control is more subtle, the whole point of control is “make sure the enemy isn’t killing people” how to do that? well, either by DPSing them down ASAP (as has been done the past three years), kiting, locking them down with CC, or TANKING (after all, what is tanking but a form of control? the enemy is attacking the person least likely to die)
they are not adding the Holy Trinity, they are adding more options to their Soft Trinity, want to tank? now you can, want to heal? now you can. want to go in and kite instead of dodging? nobody is stopping you. want to forgo heals and tanking for more DPS? don’t let me stop you.
they have added options, they are NOT enforcing those options.
“hey Gixx, do we still have that Searing Cauldron?”
“for the last time, I’m not letting you celebrate the peace treaty with that thing! it’s a waste of magic and would be stupidly offensive to the humans, use a mortar or something if you want a firework launcher”
“no, this is for something actually important, I need to set a jungle on fire and kill everything inside.”
“I…but…why is that your first choice?…NO!”
Suggestion and Request for the Developers

2. Bring the race of Orcs. This race has always been interesting and apart from a new profession, if there could be a new race, then this brings an altogether new dimension to everything. Lastly having race bonuses effectively affecting professions can make the selection way above cosmetic value.
there are no orcs in the lore. the closest are ogres.
and the the last part about racial bonuses are exactly what the devs DON’T want, they WANT the race choice to be purely cosmetic
WP’s theory hinges on the notion that the Cleansing Ritual that Trahearne used empowers Mordremoth. But there’s no reason for this to be – just like how Glint’s Lair, and her egg, remained separate from Kralkatorrik’s power it only makes sense for the same to be said of the Pale Tree’s power from Mordremoth. This would also explain why Mordremoth sought to kill/damage the Pale Tree, implying he cannot simply re-corrupt it.
I recall a twitchtv talk with Jeff and Ree shortly before release (now long removed, and a real shame too as during that livestream talk they compared Glint to Kuunavang despite it being well known then that Glint was a dragon champion), where they intentionally left it open for what the fate of Glint’s children/eggs were, and whether or not Kralkatorrik took control of them, while simultaneously mentioning that Glint remained fully free of Kralkatorrik. If the Pale Tree was freed from Mordremoth by the same or similar methods as Glint was from Kralkatorrik, then the Pale Tree would thus be immune to re-corruption. In turn, so would her direct magic – just as Glint’s Lair remained untouched despite the fact that the battle with Kralkatorrik happened in the skies above it, and he breathed his corruptive breath over the land several times over.
Caladbolg was used to cleanse Orr, not Trahearne, so it would stand to reason that Orr has become like Glint’s Lair. And just as Glint’s Lair remains untouched by Kralkatorrik… so would Orr from Mordremoth by extension.
That said
As to Zhaitan’s body, instutionalized, you’re correct about dragon corpses retaining the magic they consumed. This was brought up during Bazaar of the Four Winds in S1 during the short story Trek of the Zephyrites (parts of which can be found scattered in Dry Top), which described them recovering Glint’s body, and doing so for the very reasons you mentioned about Zhaitan’s body – they feared that Glint’s body, retaining its magic, could be used for harmful reasons in the wrong hands.
Evidently, the magic of the Zephyrite crystals actually comes from Glint’s corpse, though the crystals we see aren’t directly from her body but grown separate.
As for the magic in Zhaitan’s corpse – some speculate this is where Tequatl’s power boost came from.
is it possible that glint’s seeming “immunity” to recorruption was from the Forgotten ritual?
we know that the dream is what protects sylvari from mordremoth, is it possible that the pale tree is protected from recorruption by the dream rather than an innate property of freed champions?
(for example, what about malyck’s tree? it is a free champion as well, but it lacks the dream, if it turns out that it has got corrupted, then it may imply that the pale tree’s equivalent of Glint’s Lair is not the Grove or Orr, but the Dream itself)
we know from the sylvari that the offspring of a free dragon champion can be recorrupted, so what about caladbolg? it is a creation of the pale tree much like the sylvari, can it be corrupted too? what would happen if Trahearne got corrupted and used a corrupt caladbolg in Orr?

Thanks for the info but I am still fairly sure the playstyle looks more like a heavy armored ninja in your face style of play with more defensive options.
the playstyles are INCREDIBLY different to each other, there really is no “revenant” playstyle, it all comes down to legend choice and weapon choice, it’s like comparing a shatter mesmer to a phantasm mesmer to a chronomancer, or a condi necro to a minion master to a reaper

Wait they actually talk to you out of combat??
So a Sylvari Rev is going to have quite a few voices in their head then
Interesting naming possibilities there
it would be a nice little easter egg if glint or ventari argued with mordremoth :P
it would be a nice surprise if Rev got released a few days early so people could level and be at the same point as friends and guildies when HoT released so they could experience it together, but of course I wouldn’t expect it, other than FFXIV, I don’t think any MMO has released a class “early”.
Look here. Two insane monarchs (One of which was, again, murdered by humans with swords thus ending his threat for eternity while the Charr still can’t seem to clear the fallout from the other from Ascalon after 250 years. Also, Ebonhawke.) do not represent the entirety of humanity. Especially not current humanity, which is basically what’s left after we killed all the insane despots and cultists and kept the god-killers and people smart enough to flee over the mountains after fire worshipping demon cats turned their country in to a smoking crater.
Canon is, in the end, humans kill gods with swords. Charr can’t kill ghosts with tanks and helicopters. But hey, it’s okay. Bring the tanks, we’ll bring the swords, put the past behind us and lets go kill a dragon together.
But hey, treaties. Dragons and everything.
And those _sylvari_ man, we gotta do something about _them_
to be fair, we CAN kill ghosts with helicopters, they just don’t stay dead on account of being dead already.
ironically, we’ve now started to kill ghosts with swords... maybe you have a point there... (so do the swords! ha! (although not the sword that we’re using to kill the ghosts, that has fire instead))
as for the crazy monarchs, I was actually referring to vizier Khilbron blowing up Orr, not Thorn blowing up what remains of Palawa Joko’s patience (whatever happened to that guy anyway? *meanwhile in elona: PJ is fighting branded using zombies* eh, probably not important).
and yeah, between the asura and sylvari hogging all the glory, we really need some norn, charr, and human action, I’m fed up of taking orders from mice and talking cabbages.

(in much the same way that ritualists in GW1 became mesmers in GW2)
I disaggre on that part – gw1 rits became gw2 engies :P
[turrets are new spirits :P]
don’t be silly
spirits were useful
Asura. I can’t believe the other races haven’t united to exterminate them.
Why? Wouldn’t they unite against the humans instead? The other races view human empathy and compassion as a weakness. However, what they don’t know is that despite human overall inferiority to the others (weaker or dumber depending on the race) the humans have heart and fighting spirit to make up for it. Humans are the Rocky of Tyria while Norns are that Russian guy, Charr Mr.T, and Asura Apollo Creed.
fighting spirit?
yeah I guess “their gods did everything for them” counts as “fighting spirits”,I mean balthazar is literally a “spirit of fighting” considering he’s a war god who caused all of the problems with the charr with his lust for conquest
Total retcon. Also, the gods did basically nothing for humans for what amounts to the entire GW1 storyline. In fact, in Nightfall our characters literally walked through hell just to ask them for help and they were like “uh, no, why don’t you take care of it?”
And do you know what we did, with no help from the gods, while keeping track of a blind lady with a sharp stick?
We literally killed a God
And then the blind lady was like “k guys, thx for all the godlike power… worship me! Sorry I almost killed the world!”
Also, the whole bit where Charr have no gods? They stopped worshipping gods because humans killed the only gods they ever had. Like 8 people. With hand weapons and no special relics or machinery. Then they freed Charr-Jesus from prison so he could spread his message of atheism to his people.
Charr were literally designed as “demonic fire-worshipping cat people” and later were retconned as “well, only this one group of charr” so they could shoehorn in some more completely unnecessary playable races. You know. because it’s an MMO, and we HAVE to have extra playable races, even though it quadruples animation costs and art time for every single piece of armor, resulting in all players ending up with less cosmetic and gear options.
It was only at that point (when they cancelled utopia and decided to do EOTN and GW2) that they decided that charr had:
- Females and children
- Legions that weren’t evil
- Enough sense to topple Orr (originally orr was simply lost, and the why was lost knowledge
- Any other redeeming qualities
So, you’re welcome charr. Even though you blew up ascalon and have been occupying it ever since, we’re glad we could help you find atheism, and it’s cool that you’ve repayed the favor by providing the pact with sweet tanks and junk.
Even though we don’t need them.
Because humans can kill a god with swords.
It is a lot more convenient.
you know the fun thing about retcons?
no matter how much you sceam that it’s a retcon, IT’S STILL CANON, AND IN-UNIVERSE, ALWAYS HAS BEEN.
as for saying how humans can kill gods with swords, it’s always funny to see people bring up that point when they had to literally nuke two countries (and in one case, bind their souls to endless burning agony) to beat the charr. and STILL lost.
let’s hope mordremoth doesn’t get too tough to handle, jennah may decide to bleed on the bloodstone behind her and reduce tyria to a smouldering crater, humans seem to excel at that.
As long as your ui changes don’t give an unfair combat advantage and your chat macros don’t preform more than one button press at a time you should be ok
specifically, “one button per key press”, not “one button at a time”
although the devs had said that the “one button-one press” restriction doesn’t apply to instruments.

lore concept is essentially “dervish from GW1 but with spirits from the mists instead of human gods” (in much the same way that ritualists in GW1 became mesmers in GW2)
they channel spirits to gain that spirit’s abilities and wisdom, the spirit is essentially bound to them as long as they channel.
for example, channeling Shiro Tagachi results in him teaching you how to use the Jade Wind and Impossible odds, channeling Jalis lets you do things like the Rite Of The Great Dwarf. (this extends to out of combat as well, Mallyx resents being channeled, Jalis is thrilled to be fighting again, and they actually talk to you out of combat)
as far as mechanics goes, you are similar to an engineer or elementalist, you get less customization in exchange for more in-battle options, your legend dictates what your utilities, heal, and elite are, your weapon dictates your weaponskills
in general, Jalis is Defensive (including easy access to taunt, making you a pseudo-tank), Shiro is Offensive and Evasive (spammable shadowsteps, a backwards dodge rollthat recharges your dodge, and delicious DELICIOUS impossible odds, dat quickness and superspeed), Mallyx is about Conditions (both nullifying conditions on you and applying conditions to enemies),Ventari is Heal Support (essentially a dedicated healer and cleanser), and Glint is Boon Support (if you are willing to become an auto attack bot, you can give permanent swiftness, fury, boon extension, and 5-8 stacks of might to anyone near you)
Weapons-wise, VERY generally: Hammer is ranged and fairly balanced but tends towards defensive, MH Sword is offensive, OH sword is defensive and control, MHmace is for conditions, OH axe is offensive and control, Staff is support, and Shield is Defensive and support
BW2 is possibly the most fun I’ve had for a LONG time, if you’re tempted by it, I suggest you try it,I’ve already prepared to make it my main next month :P

I get a kick out of the few post trying to turn the topic in an elitism thread. No, there wasn’t any of that in the OP’s post. For the OP, I would say when a person has to invest in anything, they’d appreciate and care for it more. So if something is for free and easily replaceable, one should expect it to not be cared for as much.
a now-deleted post by a notoriously toxic and elitist individual on this board (guess who, no really, guess) said some toxic and elitist things about F2P players
the board’s software is STUPID and deletes any post that quoted a deleted post, robbing this thread of much context, those posts were in response to an actual toxic elitist, not trying to change the post.
Ok so 3 years is not to long? I am sorry but that is insane, I have played many mmorpgs never heard of things that take more then 6 months to get.
Nah, you can craft one in like 3 months if you really wanted it. It all comes down to how much time/effort/gold you want to put into it.
Can you get it while working towards other stuff or is it extremely grindy? I suspected that that was off, arena net is not like that from what I have seen, is it just a grind or
a little of column A, quite a bit of column B
theoretically, a legendary is supposed to prove your mastery of all aspects of the game:
the gift of mastery, requires you to have done a good amount of WvW, 100% world completion, 200 skill points (though now it is spirit shards, making it a reward for dailies),and a LOT of karma (events) (thoughnow you can use fractal relics and laurels)
sadly, it all goes downhill from there, the gift of <legendary> only tests your ability to make gold, spam dungeons, and hoard materials.
the gift of fortune is MEANT to be acquired over time, but is practically unfeasible, it requires 250 of ALL t6 drops. I killed over 300 skelk last night for powerful blood for my future revenant’s exotic zerker gear. I got THREE, doing nothing but grinding, and this is for1/8th of the mats needed.
and the final, most utterly STUPID part, the part that should have resulted in the person being fired on the spot for even suggesting it: the precursor, requiring no skill to get, just sheer luck. the single most expensive part of the legendary, not because of skill, not because of effort, but because of luck and market manipulation.
honestly, the ONLY part of the legendary that feels legendary is the gift of mastery, they should have just made it that and a simple white weapon as a precursor, making it not legendary for the cost, but because the person using it is YOU
they will tell you they dont… but they do… not even gonna argue with anyone over it so dont bother…
They don’t punish individuals. Anet doesn’t hate you.
Despite your sarcasm, two noobs have gotten precursor drops in the same party ahead of me. One on his first dungeon run with me guiding. At the same time I’m getting pure junk with 192%+ magic find.
The odds are against that. So, I want to know why. Does magic find actually work? Did I offend some dev?
Yes, it could be pure chance… but seeing a smart kittened noob with an attitude walk away with the precursor I have been looking for for years has me a bit kittened.
RNG is RNG. That’s how it goes.
ever heard of the Wi Flag?
in Asheron’s Call there was a sort of “curse” that became known as the Wi Flag, people affected by this for some reason ALWAYS drew aggro when enemies weren’t actively being tanked.
for years nobody, not even the devs, had any idea why and for a while it was simply blamed on bad luck until people did tests and it was reliably confirmed that these cursed people really WERE drawing unusual amounts of aggro.
it was eventually discovered that due to the algorithm used to determine aggro, players at the start of a list were more likely to draw aggro, whilst it was impossible for some players to draw aggro.
this list wasn’t alphabetical, or based on age, party join order, wealth, kills, deaths, armor, or even any game mechanic. it was based on a random number generated at character creation, the lower the number the “worse” your aggro-causing “curse” was.
if someone is getting statistically terrible luck consistently, it may not be RNG, it may be something wrong with the loot assignment algorithm (I mean, hell, ANet still haven’t fixed that audio memory leak, they may have something stupid like a buffer overflow that affects accounts that were created before december 2012 but after october 2012)
RNG is NOT always RNG
I don’t think that’s the scrapper icon, why would it be in the stat section? I’d say that’s for toolbelt recharge times and has nothing to do with the elite spec.
So atm we don’t know if they are still going for the new icons because we haven’t heard anything about them in a long while.
that spot there is the “profession icon” used to represent your profession mechanic cooldown.
on engi currently it’s the bottle/bomb/grenade/thing and represents the cooldown reduction on your toolbelt skills (on necro it’s a skull and is your shroud cooldown reduction, on mesmer it’s a mask and is your shatter cooldown reduction)
that symbol has never been used before, and is in the spot where the bombbottlegrenade is usually placed
whoo, so I finally got my exotic back (spinal blades), weapons(bought), rings (crafted), and armor (crafted the insignias, bought the parts, will construct when I have an armorsmith)
I think that besides the revenant itself I have everything I need prepared
I’d love to get the tempered spinal blades, but it’s going to take at least 1250 watchwork sprockets :/
I disagree completely with Reflexive Summon’s removal.
I actually take the retribution line for all of the on-dodge abilities because they synergize nicely with Shiro’s endurance+back-dodge skill (atm I’m planning on Devastation, Retribution, Herald) (specifically, I take the close quarters skill to get defense from ranged enemies,as they tend to be more “spammy” in their attacks (eg hylek, harpies), retaliatory evasion because of how much dodging I do, and reflexive summon to cause damage and weakness in case I do get hit between evade spam, between shiro skills and the sword, it results in a very dodge-y playstyle that gives the feel of a guy popping in and out of the mists constantly to “death of a thousand cuts” the enemy to death)
for me, the grandmaster traits are otherwise garbage, steadfast rejeuvenation is a pathetic heal, and one extra might if I get hit two seconds after dodging is nigh useless considering I’m going to be dodging to avoid damage.
of all the grandmaster traits, the hammer was the one trait that WASN’T crap, bonus damage is great, and the weakness it caused was nice in the cases I do get hit.
if you MUST mess this up, how about rolling Retaliatory Evasion into Unwavering Avoidance and putting Reflexive Summon in its place as a master trait?
please don’t neglect us who prefer to be defensive via avoidance like GW2 was designed around as opposed to face-tanking :<
and please PLEASE don’t try to change things because of underwater combat, nobody cares about underwater combat, there’s no water in PvP and the new zones are looking to have very little water either, we already have to suffer when underwater, don’t make us suffer on land because of it too.
TLDR: I hate Hate HATE the proposed change and it would mess up my avoidance based playstyle, there’s nothing wrong with letting people have a more offensive defense option via weakness instead of protection
edit: why not make reflexive summon into a sort of “reflexive retreat”, a PBAoE that pulses damage and weakness? that would fix the projectile problem but still allow for a more offensive defense option
Reflexive Retreat:
On hit, partially phase into the Mists, creating a small field around you that causes damage and weakness
Duration 10s
Radius 100
Damage 250
Weakness 1s

My favorite holiday moment was completing the clocktower, such a difficult puzzle, but so fun to complete it.
I remember how to an onlooker, we must have looked like we were going mad ourselves as all norn and charr got naked to reduce the problems for other players due our size and the inability to see the floor because of robes.
it was very much the point that solidified GW2 in my mind as “the game I’d play instead of WoW”, considering that ANet had only had about a month to prepare whilst fixing all the teething issues from launch

ATM I play a charr mesmer called Pentacus Calcifire, I’m going to be taking the logical route and name my char “Pentacus Calx”, after all, what better to come after a fire than a calx?
I’m going to be finding how to get mistward and using that ASAP, I’m just praying that they don’t lock it behind something stupid like AP rewards, legendary armor, top fractals, WvW tournament points, or exclusively through PvP.
up to that point I’m going to be using the mist scrim because that’s an important part of the class’s identity, and the spikiest armor I can find
I doubt it. The main healing capabilities of the Rev come from Ventari and its tablet. Depending on how large and involved your fights get you may find yourself being spread thin trying to keep up with everyone’s health.
dat projectile destruction field tho’
Aside from the issue of whether specific classes would fill specific roles, there is also the issue of tanking. Even if your character were super tough, there is no way to hold aggro reliably in this game. Also, it makes no sense to have an active combat system with dodging, and then allow a tank to sit there and get hit while everyone else stands around.
technically there is some sense.
in MH you can select your armor in such a way that you gain or lose points in a skill called Sneak.
+10 sneak makes you 20% less likely to be targeted
-10 sneak makes you you 20% MORE likely to be targeted.
if everyone has +10 sneak, except from the tank who has -10 sneak, there is a 40% higher chance of the tank being targeted.
does it make things easier for the group (especially gunners)? yes.
does the monster just sit there and the “tank” takes the hits? hell no.
there is still a 60% chance the monster is NOT aiming at the tank. the tank is just as fragile as any other player. and the monster’s attacks will still hit anyone stupid enough to be in the way of 3 tons of angry lizard.
the devs could do something similar, a rune set that makes the enemies more likely to target you, but you CANNOT hold aggro, who to attack is up to the mob, not a threat table, so the other players WILL have to be aware that they can stillbe attacked.
every class COULD tank, the tank can't just sit there any more than any other PVT player, the other players can't get complacent, and it sacrifices DPS for a smoother run without being mandatory. Also, MH is a stat based game because if you don’t have the proper gear on you’ll get creamed or run out of time
wat.
MH is absolutely NOT a stat based game. try going into even high rank thinking that armor or even DPS is king and you will be flattened faster than you can say “did anyone get the lisence number of that giant pickle?”
it’s ALL about reading the monster’s tells and knowing when it’s safe to attack, and when to run like a cowardly felyne
and to prove my point, here’s three people killing a monster in their undies:
MH is one of the few games that I’d say are COMPLETELY skill based, with little to no stat-based gameplay at all.
the ONE place where stats matter is your weapon, and even then it doesn’t matter past your sharpness and raw damage.

I’ve written ‘kitten’ before. I’ve also been puzzled when it kitten’s things like the word ‘etc.’ followed by the word ‘until’ (etkittenil). always stop and figure out why.
yeah, the filter is WAY overzealous.
for example, it censors “a colloquial name for cleavage that is also shared with a bird”
fair enough.
it also censors any word ending in t if the next word is “it’s”.
in other words, we can’t use the contractions of the terms “could it not?” “should it not?” “would it not?” “can it not?” or “must it not?”, instead coming out as “couldn’kitten” “shouldn’kitten”, “wouldn’kitten”, “can’kitten” and “mustn’kitten”
The inconsistency of the filter across different sub-forums is very odd.
In this recent post in the HoT sub-forum, “wouldn’t it” is used, but it is not filtered, whereas your writing of it here in this sub-forum is.
Also wouldn’t it be logical for an elder dragon to create instead of corrupt? Elder dragons are not dumb, so learning from the mistakes of zhaitan is not illogical. One of the things the pact did was negating the ability to corrupt (with the krait orb and destroying the ship full of corpses).
Very odd. Even my writing of it up there is no longer being censored. Perhaps this thread finally brought enough attention to this problem that they have finally added an exception for this!
If they are in a row like this, they are not censored:
Wouldn’t it Couldn’t it Shouldn’t it Can’t it Mustn’t itBut set apart they are:
Wouldn’kitten
Couldn’kitten
Shouldn’kitten
Can’kitten
Mustn’t itMost of them are, anyway.
wierd :/
and just to mention, I did not manually type the word “kitten” in my examples, they were filtered by the forum

Even if the Mists allows communing with many at once, it’s still the power level that plays a huge role. as a serious roleplayer you never ever touch anything powerful or even well known Characters. Like saying you are Buddy with Destinies Edge, or you was the one who shoot down Zhaitan, being a descendant of Durmand and so on.
The Shiro, Malyx, Glint, Summons feels more for an Important Character like Rytlock or the pact commander. non important Revenants would maybe summon not so strongt/important person, like Reyna or Talon Silverwing
well TOUGH.
we have got it straight from the devs that they channel Jalis, Shiro, Mallyx, Ventari, and Glint.
EVERY revenant channels them, they are standard issue legends for revenants.
a revenant COULD talk to jesus if they wanted, I’m sure his views on politics and current day religion would be enlightening.
it’s not like the usual god-modding rubbish bad RPers do, EVERY SINGLE REVENANT GETS THEM. THAT IS THE BASELINE POWER LEVEL.
you are actively trying to reject lore straight from the devs for your own vision of what your character should do! you are EXACTLY like those who try to god-mod.
You clearly have no idea about how to RP a Revenant if you think very few will be channeling Shiro.
ALL REVENANTS channel the same legends.
The legend you are channeling communes with you constantly, including full conversations, a Sylvari may discuss interpretations of the tablet with ventari, a human may ask Shiro what it was like to fight the Weh No Su, or the finer points of swordplay, Mallyx… Well he’s not much fun to talk to, he sort of resents being channeled.
Read the Hidden Arcana article on it, because you seem to not have grasped how legends are channeled at all
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/hidden-arcana-role-playing-the-revenant/
You have the permanent glow because you are ALWAYS channeling, your legend has a semipermanent place in your mind, so they can chip in with advice or snark

So we have Medic, Purge, Sneak, Shreader and Bulwark Gyro. Wonder what the Elite will be. Enter a Gyrocopter and lay waste to enemies?
the elite is the stealth one
give it 36 days.
as someone who doesn’t PvP or WvW, I’m underwhelmed as hell.
the big profession mechanic is utterly useless in PvE unless there is someone dying nearby, and the elite is purely a PvP ability considering how insanely situational stealth is in PvE for non-thieves.
consider that for the elite mechanic revenants get a new legend, necros get a new death shroud, mesmers get to save-scum, and thieves get a third dodge, the ability to rez/finish someone at range is so situational outside of PvP that unless HoT adds a LOT of finishable enemies like the toxic alliance, it may as well not exist.
Pure Curiosity: What do you do in this game if you don’t sPvP or WvW. There isn’t a ton of PvE content past dungeons, world events, and world exploration.
exploration, dungeons, events, jumping puzzles, general aimless wandering while gathering, achievement hunting, story and lorehunting, alts, and if I get REALLY bored, the farming in drytop and silverwastes.

We have no idea on the hammer cd’s & power-scaling so you may want to wait before calling it useless.
Also, do you remember the toxic alliance? I wouldn’t be surprised if you meet a lot of mordrem in the future that need to be stomped
true, the hammer and remaining utilities could definitely steal the show :P
it would be nice if the function gyro did a few extra things for those who don’t PvP though, like gathering at range or activating things that normally need to be F’ed. or maybe it autodeploys when you go down? that would be sweet.
from the sound of it, the nightmare court may actually wind up being an ALLY, the last PoI mentioned that the NC are NOT mordrem and that HoT wouldexplore the difference in greater detail.

yep, I have a full set of bag slots and bags, permanent tools (including a watchwork pick and copper salvager), a set of Exotic Zerker gear, and Ascended Zerker trinkets and amulet (Althea’s Ashes is hilariously appropriate considering the thematic throwbacks to ritualist, shame we can’t use them to cast Infused Was Althea for a bundle that grants temp agony resist ;P).
I have a 30 scroll, 8 tomes of knowledge, and iirc I can get another 19 from daily login and 7 from dailies for a total of 34 on launch day (and another 3 the day after), so I can instantly hit lv64.
I get 7 levels for reaching 400 in a crafting discipline, so I only need to get to 400 on two disciplines to hit 77, and then I can craft for the last three or simply wait a day for the final tomes, or just wander a few cities to get the last few levels.
now, why am I trying to do as little as possible to get 80? because that way I have ALL OF THE WORLD to get map completion bonuses for, that way I will have a MUCH easier mastery grind, especially thanks to dungeons and the personal story.
as for skins, I’m going to be rocking Heritage until I can figure out how to get Mistward.
other than that, I’ll be trying to get my Hall Of Monuments to 10 points for a skin for my sword that looks good and is free to transmute (6/10 so far, I need to do the campaigns and probably get Norn armor and Destroyer Staff, they seem to be the easiest points).
we can’t have capes because ANet, being the young and inexperienced company they are, couldn’t figure out a way to handle charr tails.
evidently they couldn’t just put a gap in for a tail like they do for leggings, or could they just give charr smaller capes.
Reaper and Druid are also lore terms as well:
those trees with faces around wychmire swamp? Druids.
Reapers are specifically stated to be grenth’s seven assistants, you even MEET one of them.
if you complain that the Scrapper is already a lore term, you also have to accept that those need changing too
necromancer are historically accepted because the gods were actually active at one time.
hell, back when orr was still not ruined, the gods chilled with regular people until people started going blind
back in GW1, Necros were essentially priests of Grenth, the human’s god of death, and were a well respected position.
nowdays, human necros are in the same position: they worship grenth.
Charr don’t care about the gods, but hey, the ability to… recycle corpses is useful in a fight.
Sylvari have no taboos about death, no sylvari has yet died of old age, and so death fascinates them (hence why trahearne is a necro, he’s really more of a death-scholar to the sylvari).
Asura, it’s another school of magic to prove their mastery of (and asura really don’t care about respect for the dead, if there’s anything to be learned from a corpse, they’ll learn it, what else would you do? bury it?)
Norn are similar to humans, necros are highly spiritual, I believe they serve raven, but I’m not sure.
as for the monstrosities, understand just HOW MANY corpses there are in tyria, we managed to actually cause extinctions back in GW1. it’s these animal bones and flesh we animate, and they are essentially “flesh puppets”, not self willed undead, if there is any human material in there it’s maybe a bone or skull or two, and we don’t touch the soul, that belongs to grenth.
Don’t then. Lots of other professions. I’m sure one of them will fit your tastes.
It’s beta still. It’s not like they released the class and suddenly changed it around when people bought items for it already or something.
Thematically Master of Torment fits more than Master of Corruption if you read lore about Mallyx.
mechanics as well.
he did punish conditions on him by healing, but he even moreso punished enchantments on players.
plus, he applied torment CONSTANTLY via his spirits
speaking of UA, considering what it does/did, shouldn’t it be Shadow Smash instead of UA?
UA revived a spirit that caused torment to all people nearby, SS teleported the target in a random direction
so shouldn’t EtD technically be Unyielding Anguish, and UA be Shadow Smash?
HoT's plot 'selling points' make no sense

“Zhaitan will reunite you with your lost loved ones!”
Technically, that isn’t a lie. Zhaitan DID reunite them with lost loved ones, in a fashion.
it’s twisted, and obviously not a good thing for anyone who isn’t a risen, but it’s not an outright lie.
who knows, maybe the risen don’t see themselves as risen? maybe they see themselves and other risen as regular people still? maybe to them, orr is still in it’s heyday rather than the barnacle encrusted mess it is?
picking up metal and other junk around Ascalon and the Black Citadel.
yeah, who’d want to go around finding random objects to salvage for raw materi-wait a minute…
in any case, this is no worse than “Druid” (ancient guys who turned themselves into trees) or “Reaper” (grenth’s seven assistants) as far as the lore goes
