yeee great idea .. like engi kits … so instead of “standart” 20 skills ( while every class have 10 and engies only 5 ) u can get up to 60

sounds balanced ….

I never understood this line of thinking

are you suggesting that a player can juggle 60 skills and not have their brain melt? (and it’s 40, we get 20 from our weapon, 5 from each conjure, 4 usable utilities makes 20)

if a player kills you using 40 or 60 skills, you DESERVE to die, because someone who can juggle that many things AND still beat you is quite simply a good player, it wouldn’t be OverPowered, you would just be OutPlayed

and someone taking 4 conjures is giving up all their cantrips for more skills, so a player who did that would have absolutely no stunbreaks, no escapes and no attunements since theyre using the conjure

pshhh you obviously never played magicka.
Bazillion spells

And numbers isn’t the problem, anyone can start shuffling numbers(skills in this case) with practice.

The argument of “oh you have to manage 40+ skills at once” is silly, its not like you are going to make them all go on cooldown persistently.

I have played magicka, and there is exactly one spell, the arcane steam lightning beam ;P

if “oh you have to manage 40+ skills at once” is silly, and we’re not going to be using them all on cooldown, then the argument that “you will have 40+ skills” is just as silly, since we won’t be using them all

one suggestion could be this: a trait in the arcane tree that doubles the time and charges of the weapons, at the cost of not creating an environmental weapon

They say the Sylvari are immune to Zhaitan’s corruption, as they can not be turned to risen, but what other plentiful races are absent from Zhaitan’s army?

Skritt, Jotun, Centaurs, Grawl, and Dredge. Surely if Zhaitan is willing to use Quaggans, he’d be willing to use any of those, so where are they?

how many centaurs grawl jotun and dredge do you see south of lions arch?
jotun are in the shiverpeaks
dredge live underground
grawl are in the shiverpeaks and ascalon
and centaurs are north krytan

he doesn’t use them because they aren’t in his territory, simple as that

skritt are the only thing I don’t have an explanation for, but by the time any skritt are in danger of being turned into risen, the pact takes a stance on burning corpses or rendering them unusable to zhaitan.

the reason that people point at sylvari as uncorruptible is that they actively fight and die in orr… and because tegwen TOLD us that sylvari don’t get corruptted

Yeah! Nobody complains about killing wolves and spiders and they are at least 20% cooler than bunnies.

-twitch-

Wolves and spiders have been vilified them in video games for decades. I blame Tolkien.

You don’t need to blame Tolkien for wolves, you need to blame whichever culture needed them to be evil for being predators. Be aware, the oldest of stories about wolves generally run a fine line . . . fear the wolf if you wish but respect the wolf, don’t hate it. They are/were an apex predator, incredibly good at what they do. I can probably run out and find two dozen tales where wolves are good. (We can start with Wheel of Time or Game of Thrones if you like.)

Also, a nitpick, but Tolkien had “wargs” which were not wolves

Spiders, I have to seriously try to find something where they are good or at least not an enemy. That said I don’t have a problem with spiders so long as they don’t come crawling up my leg. They keep the insect pest infestation down to a manageable level

charlotte’s web :P
(and possibly arachne from the greek myth, she was an arrogant prick, but in the end she’s a tragic figure who gets cursed because it turns out her arrogance is justified and the greek gods are total divas who hate to lose)

actually, spiders are the reason behind a reaction known as “The arachnid response”

it’s a bit like the uncanny valley, but the logical opposite, where the UV is “things are so like us they are scary” the arachnid response is “they are so different to us they are scary”

and it’s completely true, different size, different number of appendages, too many eyes, unusually intelligent way of hunting (unlike any other creature), skeleton on the outside, move too fast for their size and number of legs, can be hairy AND have a shell at te same time… they’re the closest thing we have to aliens on earth :P

The best thing about playing a Flamethrower Engi is the efficiency of turning bunnies into twitching tufts of ash.

as a necro, I find life transfer more effective, 5 rabbits per pulse, each only takes one pulse to kill, and there are about 8 pulses, that’s 40 rabbits in one attack

Where is this area with a large population of rabbits? We have to put warning signs up.

or worse, in the pre-lost shores info, it was implied that the karka are a sapient race that are fiercely territorial, much like the red hylek.

One of the reasons I quit. They may as well have added a daily for clubbing baby seals.
You have to wonder what the devs where thinking. In GW1, the brown rabbit in pre was always a favorite. The rabbit potions and the rabbit minis where also always very popular. So what do they do in GW2? turn them in to something to kill for points.
If they think that way, why can’t the charr toons hunt the human children for thier dailies?

because human children, while delicious, are sapient and therefore off limits

(amusingly, it’s implied that SYLVARI are the most likely to try and eat the other races, there is a conversation between some NPCs in caledon that tells us that sylvari start getting hungry for meat when theyre around other races)

as for your edit: rabbits are also eaten in many countries, and in places like australia, are killed en masse by using a modified disease called myxamatosis, pet rabbits and wild rabbits are not the same thing, I’m sure nobody would intentionally kill somebody’s beloved pet, which is what you’re implying

Calcifire.1864

I seriously doubt the Pale Tree has much to do with the Dragons. Also, since we’ve met sylvari who aren’t from this particular tree, it makes it less likely that the trees are associated with the Dragons.

either that or the tablet corrupted the first champion and it’s minions (the tree and sylvari) the ED experienced this through the dream and slowly became swayed to ventari’s teachings itself and the “be nice” message was further reinforced by positive interactions with the other races, that then affected the other sylvari with a more direct connection to the dragon making them also good (but without a dream since they don’t have a ventari tablet)

basically: what if the other sylvari were turned good by the ventari tablet using the dream and the ED as a proxy? (it would explain why they hate zhaitan so much, since the ED’s fight over territory and zhaitan is actively encroaching on caledon by the start of the game)

this is all speculation ofc, but imagine if it turned out to be true, we’d have an elder dragon on our side and a dark secret for the sylvari (and it puts the nightmare court in a different light, since they’d be RIGHT in saying that sylvari are meant to be evil)

(or perhaps ED6 is just nice anyway, they don’t HAVE to be destructive, after all, from a certain viewpoint, kralkatorrik made the branded perfect, zhaitan gave the risen a second chance at life, jormag gave the icebrood immortality, and bubbles is creating more habitat for sealife when he leaves… primordus is a bit of a dick still though)

as for the incest thing:

sylvari are plants, plants can breed asexually, and often are technically incestuous since they can’t really control how insects pollinate them

I understood his point perfectly, the implication was that you can just use the agony resist infusions, if you’re trying to get to the very peak of your stat growth however you do need them.

“Not that bad” isn’t good enough. Rangers dont have that problem, if you can’t design an AI that functions properly all the time then let players tell the kitten things when to attack and retreat, problem solved. GW2 is supposed to be so advanced and the next evolution of mmos and all that, when games 10 years older have far better AI in place for pets. Its inexcusable.

Ranger Spirit Pets are awful. Comparing utility skills to ranger pets is not a viable comparison. The Ranger pet is it’s class mechanic.

Counterparts to Minions are as follows: Guardian Spirit Weapons, Ranger Spirit Pets, Mesmer Illusions, Engineer Turrets, and Elementalist Elementals.

Guess what all of those have in common – pathing issues, ai issues, and random bugs. When you compare minions to their comparable counterparts we come out ahead.

um, as someone who plays a mesmer, and a necro, I can say that mesmer’s illusions are a breath of fresh air in comparison to necro minions.

their behavior is utterly different, an illusion only targets one thing, but minions need actual AI that is deeper than “target whatever player used spell on, cast x every y seconds” they never stop attacking for no good reason, and they won’t run around and pull aggro unless their attack winds up puting them in another mobs aggro range (berserker mainly)

turrets attack randomly based on whatever is in range, so they aren’t a good comparison either

Remembering the fact that Anet said they wanted less cleave and less aoe abilities in game, that change will never happen.

and yet mind stab (according to ANet logic, a STAB hits enemies nearby to the enemy being hit, yet making huge swings to rake enemies with huge ghostly claws DOESN’T, it gets even sillier when you see the #2 skill for axe, you send the axe towards the enemy and MAKE IT INTO A FLOATING BLENDER BLADE and yet that only hits one enemy…)

we’re literally the only class that has no spammable autoattack that hits multiple targets.

guardians, mesmers and warriors get cleaves, eles get splash on their staff with fire and all but earth on dagger, engis have pistol’s explosions, grenades, and flamethrower, rangers get a cleave on every melee weapon they have, thieves get a bounce on shortbow and cleaves on sword.

what do necros get as a spammable AoE?
scepter? single target
dagger? single target
axe? single target
staff? piercing, but has a tiny hitbox, is linear only, and is the slowest thing EVER

How do Whispers Agents recognise each other?

in Lore

Posted by: Calcifire.1864

Calcifire.1864

Non-Whispers seem to be aware of the symbol’s meaning, though – my Priory character called out the guy in the Order of Whispers-marked tents outside the Chantry. (Not directly, mind you, but I got a distinct feeling of “i know what you are” from the discussion.)

That said, the ‘verb the unverbable’ code would only go so far too – there’s at least one Whispers agent (in Fireheart Rise) that simply blurts it out, and any information gathering organisation worth their salt – Priory, Ash, Shining Blade, Arcane Eye – would likely have figured it out by now unless it was a new code introduced just before the PC joined, and even then I doubt it’d remain secret until Zhaitan’s death. Thus, I’d suspect there’s more to it – the paradoxical statement may be combined with a coded gesture, or the Order may have some kind of magic – possibly triggered by paradoxical statements – that identifies them to each other.

yeah, I think that if you take levels as a rough estimation of time related to personal story, by level 40 the paradoxes have become well known enough as an identifier of the order, and by 60 it’s become “I am a member of the pact, is there anything I can do to help the order of whispers?”

the order does trust certain things to outsiders after all, like the ship that was to act as a distraction whilst smuggling demmi out of LA or lots of their operations around bloodtide that are helped by players. hell the pact itself is a pretty good sign that they trust outsiders.

if the PC is a member of the pact (which by 60, canonically, they ARE. if you don’t do the storyline it’s considered non canon that you’ve progressed to wherever you are), then order members and player characters are officially allies, and so being able to identify whispers members would be considered useful enough. don’t forget that the general populace wouldn’t know the paradox, only pact and order members and allies know it. (and our character is known for not being particularly tactful, they ask tybalt in the middle of a crowded street about the order after all, now imagine that you never got the telling off from tybalt or the spy training, and it’s pretty clear that vigil/priory PCs are pretty loudmouthed)

I’m not exactly sure why he implied that people with asperger’s couldn’t understand the concept of a metaphor to begin with. Not sure he understands the disorder :|

it differs, only the more extreme cases take everything literally, for most it’s just a “why would a t-rex be in jewelery anyway?” and then proceed to try and rationalize the saying in case it comes up later

Uhm… no? How often do you see people in pvp with 25 stacks of bleed? Granted, the attackers know that it would be pointless to stack them higher, but it wouldn’t actually change that much in pvp, while greatly improving the pve part of the game.

Yeah this made me laugh a little too. If the meta shifts to people stacking condition builds, then people will just start to carry around more condition clears, pushing the meta back the other way. You have ways of dealing with condition spam builds in sPVP, just like you have ways of dealing with zerker builds.

The issue is PVE, not PVP.

Ahhh PvE’rs. I forgot who i was dealing with, forgive me. It’s apparent that neither of you spend much time in Tournament matches in sPvP (if any). The point isn’t to stack 25 bleeds on someone. Setting a single condition on them isn’t going to do anything because unlike PvE the enemy can actually think and react. Thus, you put one condition on them and they’ll use a skill to remove it or send it back to you. It’s very easy to deal with one condition. The point of a condition build and what is currently being run by Trap Rangers and Condition Necro’s is to literally dump as many conditions as you can on the enemy can keep them coming on. It’s a high pressure build in which you apply as many as you can on the enemy and keep applying them until the enemy is overwhelmed. Since there is no official Healer class the only person in charge of removing conditions from you is you. Nobody cares that you’re blind, chilled, poisoned, bleeding, vulnerable, weakened, crippled, and/or confused. It’s up to you to remove all of those conditions.

I understand that from your PvE experience you think it may be as simple as just using a skill to get rid of a condition when it’s placed on you but it’s not. However, in your defense most of the people playing tournament sPvP are already running at least 1 condition removal utility and bunkers are usually running 2. However, we have only 3 utility slots and these skills have longer cool downs then skills that the enemy is using to apply the conditions. On top of that the game is based on the Capture Point method. Thus, you have to be on the point in order to capture it or keep it from getting captured. So Anet is forcing people to fight over 3 tiny pieces of geography. So if you want to win it’s not as if you can just back up away from the red circles all the time. Often times you have to fight through it all and the only Capture Point big enough to kite around on is the Graveyard.

I am okay with a separate PvE vs PvP split for Conditions and how they’re applied but I think it would confuse newer players and frustrate PvE’rs as they attempt to tackle more challenging enemies than can found in the PvE world.

I feel so type-casted as a PVE’er… but I actually mainly play WvW, which I guess you could consider PVEish…

Not sure what you are arguing? The post and subsequent discussion was about the problem that arises with condition based heros when there are MULTIPLE sources of longer lasting poison/burn skills, and over 25 stacks of bleeding.

Fixing the max stack bleeding problem has nothing to do with sPVP and arguably nothing to with WvW (extreme cases of Epidemic aside). How many times do you find yourself with 25 stacks of bleed in spvp? This discussion was about the DPS loss at at that point.

What does changing the 25 stack limit to 50 have anything to do with Spvp? Or changing the priority system of the stack?

Okay I’m board with you. Do anything you want in PvE and make it so everyone contributes their fair no matter whether they are direct damage or condy damage. Just please don’t make it too powerful in sPvP. It will completely take over (it’s already starting to actually).

if you have 25 stacks of bleed with no condition removal, you’re probably already dead anyway, no class could keep up more than 25 on their own anyway, so it’s not like a necro will unload all the bleeds in tyria on you (hell, bursting I have trouble keeping up 15…)

think of it this way, if it was a warrior doing the same damage, you’d be instadead, at least the conditions give you a stay of execution to cleanse or enact your revenge :P

Yes, you cannot apply more conditions during a block, the existing ones keep ticking. Dodging works the same as blocking. Yes and yes, you can remove them, far better than any temporary stun or knock down, they’re gone and your opponents damaging abilities are on there full CD rather than the partial interrupt CD. Yes, you can outrun any projectile or exceed the range of any spell which applies conditions. Yes actually, any projectile or spell which causes a condition will miss when blinded. To tell the truth, I’m not surprised in the slightest that you didn’t know any of that.

You know full well we’re talking about conditions that have already been applied, and yet you feign obtuseness by pointing out the obvious that blocking blocks, dodging dodges, and attacks can be outrun. And then you follow it up with this…

Rhetorical question Ace, I already know the answer is yes, you are acting childish.

And with that, I’m going to wash my hands clean of you. Adieu.

if you don’t avoid the attack that applies the condition you have no right to complain about the condition, just as you have no right to complain when you die after standing in a warrior’s 100 blades. there is no condition applying attack that is unavoidable and unlike with DD, you can remove the condition damage with cond removals and heals (unlike DD which can only be removed by heals). the condition isn’t an effect of the attack, it IS the attack, think of it as a very slow sword swing

ah, ahah, AHAHAHAHAH

do you know how much direct damage my scepter hits do?

Name one, just ONE, open world Dynamic Event in which participation credit is impossible with a condition-spec’d, scepter-wielding character.

very few, but it’s easy to get on the participation credit table, I can get gold on plinx’s champ abom without doing enough dmg to even apply for xp credit

and I’m not saying we’re completely useless at the bleed cap, but our dps will suffer massively, any more than 2 bleed users and any more bleeders will not contribute to DPS other than their pitiful DD

ooh, I have an idea, in the south of brisban wildlands in a lake near the sylvari area there is an event called “The Unseen Hunter” where you fight a largos that is literally immune to all conditions, fight it as a DD warrior, then fight it as a condition necro (hell, fight it as a DD necro if you want)

it is soloable as a DD user (I’ve done it on my mesmer), but nearly impossible as a scepter wielding necro, I’d reccomend anyone who has doubts as to how important this is for a condition class to try it, and you’ll see just how bad it can be for a class that relies on bleeds but can’t apply any

er, no…

where did you get that from?

The fact that if warriors can add bleeds cheaply it makes condition builds less useful.

I DESPISE that trait because it overwrites my beautiful 30 second bleeds. if there was no cap I’d love it because hey, more bleeds on the enemy.

that trait not only does hardly anything for the warrior, but it actually LOWERS my dps, remember how lupi used to attack minions summoned via our reanimator trait and cause wipes? that’s how necros feel about “bleed on crit” things used by classes that don’t stack CD

They shouldn’t, it should only add to it. If it’s true that’s a bug I can agree with you on but again, infinite stacks isn’t the answer. I lean much more heavily towards per-person stacks or some kind of dd, cd seesaw.

and that’s where the problem with bleeds come in, they work by reaching the cap, and any new bleeds will overwrite the oldest ones regardless of duration and power of either the old and the new one.

you’re thinking of things like burning, poison, and regen, where the oldest one and its owners CDmg is used until it’s duration runs out, then the next oldest starts ticking with ITS owners CDmg and so on, with newer ones just added to the end with a label saying “use this person’s CDmg for this amount of time”

at the moment, a tiny bleed will knock off a huge one, and that’s why this has become such a big issue

infinite stacks, personal stacks, I don’t think any condition user would care as long as they stop conflicting with each other (honestly, it’s rare that a single cond user would hit 25 bleeds and sustain it for long on their own, so personal stacks would work fine).

And the problem is, while there is a stigma with certain classes (like necro/ranger/engineer),.

Err no this is a common misconception for engineers. Power Grenadier/Rifle (even Pistol) Engis are viable sustained damage since a lot of hard hitting skills have relatively short CD and you have access to like 6-8 of time and can be rotated at will. You even get a lot of healing support and access to loads of great CC, blinds and chill when built properly.

there is still a stigma on engis in that they can do just about anything as well as any other class, but unless you play EXTREMELY well, you’ll be just scraping average. their skill cap is massively high and the sheer number of players that are competent at playing one is much greater than the amount that excel

here’s a post I wrote on reddit to explain why the bleed cap is AWFUL

here’s some simple maths, say you hit for 1000, and there is a DoT that ticks for 100 damage per second for 10 seconds

these are applied to two identical bosses with 25k hp instantaneously by 25 warriors and 25 necros

after a single tick the total damage on the warrior boss is 25000, the total damage on the necromancer boss is 2500.

the warrior boss is instantly killed in one tick, the necromancer’s will die in another 9 seconds.

both are doing the exact same damage, but the DD boss will die instantly, but the condition boss will die later

think guillotine vs immolation, you end up dead, one just takes longer

HOWEVER, let’s scale this up a bit, now the bosses are 10 times stronger, so we add 10 times the number of players to the fight, we now have 2 bosses with 250k hp, 250 warriors doing 1k dps, and 250 necros doing 1k dps

you’d expect the result to be the same right? WRONG!

the warriors would do their 250k damage in a second like before, but the necros are limited by the cap, so they still only do 25k damage warrior boss dies instantly, necro boss takes 100 seconds (10 seconds for each stack of bleeds, 10 applications of 25 stacks would be required)

in that example, only 10% of the necros are doing ANY damage at all but all of the warriors are.

that is the reason bleed stacks are a fundamentally flawed idea

the problem is then compounded when we add other classes to the mix, if they are applying bleeds that hit for less than 100 dps, and they are the most recent bleed to hit the boss, that takes up a slot where a necro’s bleed could potentially go, actively LOWERING the dps of the condition boss

now think how many bleeds are applied unintentionally by classes that don’t stack cond damage, and you can see why it’s such a problem, that warrior hits for 900 and leaves a DoT for 100, giving 1k total, the necro hits for 100 but the DoT hits for 900 also giving 1k total, if the warrior hits first, the total damage is 1900 (900 necro DoT, 100 necro direct, 900 warrior direct, warrior DoT is overwritten by newer necro DoT) , if the necro hits first the total damage is 1100 (100 warrior DoT, 900 warrior direct, 100 necro direct, necro DoT is overwritten by warrior DoT)

THAT is where the problem comes in, stronger DoTs are being overwritten by weaker DoTs and pushing the whole groups total DPS down by a significant amount, and that’s on top of the limit that the cap itself applies

it can be rendered useless with two crits from a warrior with that hideous minor trait that grants you bleeds on crit

So the answer is to make that trait more powerful? nice..
