my necro is a bright orange tiger striped charr with bright and dark green as my main colour theme and use the grenth armour to look fancy (I wish I could use a top hat outside of town clothes :<) (I also don’t wear a hood or cowl, I wear a white mask instead)

so no, not everyone has the grim brooding black+red necromancer look

think of it this way, when we use a staff, we get a black scythe blade popping out of the end of the staff, if we were to use the bifrost, it would clash WAY too much, since the majority of the rainbow effects are concentrated at the head, imagine a ball of colour with s dirty great black spike jabbed into it, that is how it would look

imagine one of the orrian acolytes using the bifrost, they’d look ridiculous

This is starting to just get silly, the price of vanilla is the same as ORICHALCUM.

ANet, when a base material for all levels is the same price as the top tier crafting material that is on a 24 hour respawn to prevent farming and keep the price high, YOU’RE DOING SOMETHING WRONG.

one of these things is not like the others.

necromancers choose the dark skull emo look because that’s what fits te theme of the class, I’m not going to go around screaming “I AM DEATH INARNATE!” whilst dressed like an explosion in a dye factory, the emo look for us is the difference between looking professional, and being a crazy person.
you aren’t complaining that mesmers all have the fabulous stage magician look, you don’t complain that warriors always go for the “giant spiky metal armour” look, or guardians all being knights in shining armour.

as for your attacks on the OP about having “a very narrow view about how a necromancer has to look like (I’m sure he has a “very unique” look on his character), and he expects the game developers to actually follow his limited opinion when designing the game;”
what the hell are we supposed to think? our staff attacks make a dirty great scythe blade made of solidified darkness appaer at the head of the staff, there is no way you can talk about us not doing what the developers intended when we’re forced to have a black scythe by the devs and all of our spell effects are black and green

completely agree, we have a choice between:
fabulous rainbow staff
“and today the weather is:” scepter
dagger/blowtorch
wolf horn that looks like the most impractical thing ever
ice dragon axe

the only ones that even remotely fit a necro are the ones that nobody uses.

incinerator would look AMAZING if the fire effects were changed to our classes effects (purple fire and butterflies for mesmers, attunement themed effects for elementalists, black, green and locusty for necros, that sort of thing)

in fact, why don’t all classes have a class specific legendary?
why not make the legendary, and then throw it in the mystc forge with some other things to make it look better for a certain class? hell maybe just add somemore Gifts of X themed to classes
(eg, incinerator + “gift of the shadow” + “gift of the plague” + “gift of blood” = “necromaner’s incinerator”)

@ArmageddonAsh.6430 I don’t think you are supposed to go down a traitline for the points, you spec for in with armor and jewels. The traitslines are more for the traits :p

then you’ve still got the same problem, I run condition with staff and S/D, so I spend 20 in death magic for the 20% CD reduction and greater marks skills.
I still get forced to hear “MY MINION!” every few seconds after killing an enemy because of the kitten horror dying, I still have enemies in PvP ralling off it, but then again, the second minor makes up for it all, because having extra toughness for 5 seconds AFTER THE ENEMY DIES is so very helpful, right? (especially considering when I’m going to be in a fight with more than one enemy, I’m going to be trying to stay away from them, not facetanking the zerg)

Well i notice they did fix Chillblains, but now all the rest of the marks are not affected by the Greater Marks trait now. Good job 1 step forward two steps back. It seems every time they fix stuff more things break. It’s really awesome playing a broken class with a broken runeset in a game that is plagued with bugs.

and with that, I just realized how devastating the 20 second fear bug can be with two necros and an enemy necro :P
necro 1 fears enemy necro, enemy necro fears necro automatically from the trait, fear bounces back and forth until enemy and necro 1 have 20 seconds of fear, necro 1 plague signets their 20 seconds to give enemy necro 40 seconds of fear, necro 1 casts epidemic.
necro 1 laughs

alternatively, if the plague signet doesn’t work, necro 2 can cast the epidemic for a shorter fear on the group

necro 1 and 2 laugh

then a mesmer uses null field and ruins everything… nerf mesmers anet plskthx

A public portal to the Chantry of Secrets right in Lion’s Arch?

there’s a really nice little bed and breakfast in lion’s arch, it’s a bit out of the way, but pretty good service, they have great food there too, especially the apple pie

vigil and priory I can imagine would be fine with making HQ/LionsArch portals
alternatively, seeing as we can get into the chantry via the gates from fort trinity, why not just let everyone use the gates in the chantry? you do command their forces after all, so they obviously trust you enough for that

another idea would be to make a portal in LA directly to fort trinity, lorewise, it could be for use by all pact members (much like the mist gates for public use), not just high ranking ones

you realise that by skill he meant “skill as a player” not slot skills?

if you did realize thatg, then by your same argument, nothing is skill based if you aren’t allowed to use weapon/kit/attunement swaps, elites, or utilities

more buttons != more skill intensive, think of it this way, which takes more skill using only the 1-5 skills? a P/P engi, or a D/D thief?

I personally think this

think about it:
necros go to blood because the front lines are where the most corpses/soon-to-be-corpses are, not to mention their inherent tankiness from their high health and self healing
mesmers go to ash, for obvious reasons (they’re pretty much magical thieves)

eles go iron because they’re a living toolkit: they can arc weld with lightning, forge, melt and heat things with fire, quench, chill and clean things with water, and create stone tools with earth, not to mention the levitation thing they do with earth as well, plus, they have their magnetism abilities for use on metal.

we see them calling down a metor storm, but who’s to say they can’t light a candle?

of course, all of them could theoretically go to any legion, necros have the shadow/darkness/spectral abilities for ash, and knowledge of the undead to aid iron in making anti-ghost weaponry
mesmers can easily fight in the frontlines with blood and assist iron with their spatial magic (bit of a stretch thee though)
eles can fight with blood obviously, but let’s not forget how useful using the environment can be for spying and assasinations, we can rob a room of air, cause an unfortunate stair related accident with a well placed rock suddenly causing someone to trip, infiltration over water by freezing the water below you, making a vacuum around your feet to walk silently, make smoke bombs from dust and sand… the list is endless

The Pact is focusing on Zhaitan because he’s the most active and outright dangerous dragon around at the moment.

sure, the pact is, they were formed SPECIFICALLY for fighting zhaitan, but id just seems odd that even with the branded, icebrood, and destroyers, there are very few sylvari bothering with the other dragons.

one intersting thing is this:
how many sylvari have we seen/heard of that have orr/risen/zhaitan as a wyld hunt?

all of the valiants, you, and trahearne.
how many are bothered with the other dragons?

not only that, we fight ONE dragon at the start, not 5, and everyone immediately says “yeah it’s zhaitan, go kill him”. does that mean that our characters are only going to kill zhaitan? or did it mean the ED’s in general? and if so, why did they focus so much on it being zhaitan?

Except that the Durmand Priory knows about it. They were our first indications of a sixth Elder Dragon – with jotun stalae (spelling may be off) mentioning that there were five surviving sentient races (jotun, mursaat, seer, dwarves, and forgotten) during the last rise of the Elder Dragons which mentioned six ED (or rather a “sextant of swallowers” or some such).

I would seriously be put down if the Nightmare Court are tied to this Sixth. They’re meant to be, like Dream sylvari, fighting the Elder Dragons as well. They just have a different means of doing such and view the Dream sylvari to be too weak due to their unwillingness to leave Ventari’s tenants.

I’m hoping this Sixth Elder Dragon is tied more to poison – or perhaps not to plantlife or earth at all – rather than earth. Why? Primordus twists fire and stone; Kralkatorrik’s minions utilizing lightning, crystal, and earth. We already have two Elder Dragons connected in some form to earth/dirt. A third would get relatively bland imo.

about the nightmare court supposed to be fighting the dragon as well:

1. do the dragons not attack each other if they encroach on another dragon’s territory?
2. how many dragons do sylvari currently care about as a whole?
3. which army has just tried to invade the maguuma jungle?

1. yes
2. one, zhaitan
3. The Risen

if the pale tree IS a dragon’s champion or a dragon, who’s to say that the sylvari don’t only care because they are feeling territorial?

I don’t think that through playing the entire personal story up to the creation of the pact, I’ve once heard a non order sylvari say the words Kralkatorrik, Jormag, or Primordus (except caithe, but she’s an exception being in destiny’s edge)

in the personal story, trahearne mentions that because necro minions were never alive in the first place, they aren’t able to be controlled by zhaitan, things that were once alive CAN be controlled

here’s a butterfly fact you probably don’t know:
there are some species of butterfly that feed on TEARS, their proboscis is shaped like a needle like a mosquito’s mouth, and covered in thorns, it waits until its victim is asleep, and then stabs them in the eye, the thorns cause irritation and make the eye produce more tears.

so yeah, butterflies: THEY FEED ON YOUR PAIN!

for male mesmers, I think the butterflies fit pretty well, we’re pretty much weaponized stage magicians, and so it would be either doves or butterflies, and doves are hard to make.

there are also the chaos theory and butterfly effect references as well for the more… lovecraftian mesmers (kittening with space time, mentally tormenting people until their minds become mush, teleporting into a world made of glitched level geometry from which there is no escape, the usual stuff :P)

It’s tough in a newbie zone because people complain about getting 1-shot… because they only took the +Power gears and totally neglected +Vitality or +Toughness.

unfortunately not true, I was starting an alt with a friend who was in orr, the event started, I told him it was up, we ran in, and got 1 shot on the bridge, he was lv 78 with toughness and vit gear

because flame is trying to destroy the other legions and take over, the other three work together as different parts of the charr military, if flame wasn’t evil they’d just be a legion that specializes in magic, like blood specializes in combat, ash in information, and iron in machines

also, your comparison is incorrect, the charr OWNED the lands, not just lived on it, and if you really want to compare charr to animals, here’s one:
try taking a bear’s den and see where that lands you.

if charr weren’t sapient, sure you’d have a point, but the fact that they have records of living in ascalon means they had the ability to record knowledge and pass it down, therefore, they were sapient

Eitherway, Its broken. The game is centered around PVP, fix it please.

I wish people wouldn’t say that, there is NO REASON EVER to nerf PvE functionality because of PvP, at least in Gw2 anyway, in WoW it had the reason of world PvP meaning that PvE and PvP was the same, but in GW2, the PvP is in WvW (which is designed so that it’s strategy, not class which wins, and has been stated to never be balanced around) and sPvP.

the PvP and PvE content never mix, so what’s to stop ANet from giving people two sets of spells, one only accessible in PvE, and one only accessible in PvP.

as necros, we should understand this better than anyone, we’re not getting buffed in PvE because our DS is too OP in PvP, if the skills were split into PvP and PvE versions, the devs could balance each side without affecting the other, more powerful DS in PvE, same DS in PvP

I think it looks pretty good and in general all of the animations match the races pretty well:
humans norn and sylvari wouldn’t be able to hold the sword straight, so they float it instead
charr have the upper body strength to hold it one handed (at least enough to point)
asura need to hold on with both hands because they aren’t strong enough to hold the sword one handed, but at the same time, the floaty sword wouldn’t be visible to the player because of the asura’s size

also the fact that it’s called spatial surge implies that there may be some recoil, so the human-shaped races use the floating to absorbthe recoil, charr are strong enough to keep the sword steady even WITH the recoil, and asura use their own bodies to brace themselves against it

yeah, agreed, as someone who has four charr characters, three of which are scholars, it can be really irritating to get decent looking hoods, thankfully, I’ve managed to use the “transmutation unbinds starter items” trick to give my necro the mesmer’s Fanged Dread mask, it looks more like a skull than our own facepaint :P

I think the way falling works is actually a scripted death when your character falls a certain amount, and a % of max health if the fall isn’t fatal (hence why everyone has equal falling tolerance)

elementalists have the same problem in vapor form (worse even, it’s supposed to be an immunity to damage), either that or vapor in tyria is heavier than air and has bones to break…

I wish they’d just remove our conjured weapons charge limit and CD, make the environmental weapon a major arcane trait, and then merge them into one skill that changes form with our attunements, that way people who say “you can’t have weapon swith because you have attunements for that” would actually have a point.

they could also make the firey GS into an arcane one, fire gets two weapons, arcane gets none, poor arcane :<

I personally think that it would be good thematically if when downed we became to “weak” to use elements, so we’d have to resort to arcane (elementless)
My suggestions would be:

1: arcane shot: a weaker version of arcane blast, stacks vulnerability like lightning does now
2: Arcane push: weaker version of arcane wave, knocks back to avoid the stomp of death
3: arcane bubble: weaker/shorter version of arcane shield, requires more hits to cause the explosion (will act as a shield against a few enemies, and a final “screw you” in zergs)

My opinion is they should just do like GW1 and let us wear Town Clothing in combat.

There’s some REALLY awesome clothes like the pirate outfit and the top hat, but unlike GW1, we can’t wear them in combat!

If I’m a mesmer, I should be able to wear a top hat in combat! :/

I agree, don’t say “lolol turn /m off” I don’t WANT to, the majority of people in /m are sensible, funny, and helpful.

and believe me, I’d have my immersion broken less by a “The Vigil are planning another assault against the Shatterer, they plan to begin in xx:xx:xx” than 50 people spamming chat every 5 seconds.

and don’t say “but then people will just jump on for the event” they do ANYWAY.

Shatterer’s pre-events start exactly 3 hours after he was last killed, tequatl lands exactly 2.5 hours after it was killed, and I’m not sure about CoJ

there is no surprise, there is no fun, there is no immersion, the morons on /m spoil it the second they ask for the dragon time, at least if it had a timer, people who hadn’t done it before wouldn’t be spoiled until they reached the part of the zone that it was in, instead of it being ruined as soon as they enter the zone

Characters should stay distinguishable by armor class.

I’m not sure… do you really distinguish between them all that well?
most of the time I find that their behavior, colour scheme and abilities are more of a hint.

especially considering how maany armour sets look like other armour classes, look at the charr cultural light armour, T1 is a ton of metal plates strapped to you, and T3 is chain/platemail

what if it only changed the visuals for allies? (enemies only see the default PvP gear)
that way, in PvP, you could still see an enemies profession at a glance, but allies, ie. the people who you want to look awesome for, will see the transmuted armour

I suggest you deal with WOWGL and PvPBank!

don’t pick a race for abilities, go for what you want aesthetically and thematically

I personally chose charr because I’ve always assumed that mesmers are actually pretty sinister, we mess around with peoples very SANITY for gods sake, that’s even scarier than necromaners, they make you sick and make flesh puppets, we can drive people INSANE.
as to how that fits in with the charr, that’s exactly the sort of reason they tolerate mesmers, they’re ok with necros because having undead is useful, elementalist because they’re the traditional combat mage, mesmers because being able to turn an enemy into a gibbering wreck is not only tactical, but hilarious

also, because nobody expects the charr to be a magic user, and really, isn’t that what mesmers are about?

Ether Clone (Scepter #1)
The Clone that spawns from Ether Clone (or clones that spawn with the Scepter in the Main-Hand, in general) has no secondary effect tied to its attack and it is pretty much useless in that regard. All other Clones have at least some effect tied to their #1 (and GS-Clones can at least be viably traited for Bleed stacking, due to the 3-hit nature of the #1)
Solution: Give the Scepter #1 an additional effect.

I’m not suggesting that they should be GOOD clones, make them look like phantasms or even just a slight visual effect on the clone making them look like they have distortion, then, when they shatter, make them do damage based on how many clones they’ve summoned

so at the moment it’s: 3 clones that do nothing
with the cloneception: 3 clones that summon other clones which do nothing except add to scepter’s shatter damage, OR, just make the clones appear as distortion effects, when they shatter, they do more damage/add more confusion/longer stun/more distortion on you

or possibly make it so that when the sceptre overwrites, it counts as a mind wrack/applies confusion?

at the moment, you create a clone, it charges forward and hits the enemy, you then need to switch places to get to the enemy.

there are a few problems with this, as a gap closer, it’s USELESS. if the enemy is out of range, the clone won’t be created, but puts the ability on cooldown, in addition, it only has a range of 600.
since the enemy will likely be moving away from you, you either need to immediately cast it, or have swiftness, since if the enemy gets more than 600 away, there is no way of catching them, the clone won’t form, so you can’t jump.

my solution is this:
instead of the clone dasing forward whilst we stay still, make us dash, and leave a clone where we were, think Ride the Lightning with clones and no explosions, this makes us capable of chasing enemies, and is a much more intuitive way of using a gap closer. The “cripple on first cast, immobilize on second” would remain the same, with the player applying the cripple and the clone making the immobilize, this would help in PvE since the whole point of an immobilize is when you want to get away from the enemy, not rush to them, wheras the cripple makes more sense for when you want to chase.

in addition, I’d also like to suggest that if this change does get implemented, you allow it to be used out of combat and when the enemy ISN’T in range, to at least allow us to close the gap slightly if they get just out of range and when charging at the enemy. A range increase would be nice as well, 600 is hardly anything for a gap closer.

quick summary:
how the skill works now:
cast spell
clone appears at enemy, inflicts cripple
cast spell again
switch places with clone and immobilize enemy
if you’re out of range, the clone doesn’t appear and the spell goes on cooldown

How I propose to change it:
cast spell
you charge at enemy and inflict cripple (for chasing in PvP and charging in PvE)
cast spell again
switch places with clone and immobilizes enemy (as an escape/kiting tactic in both PvE and PvP)
if you’re out of range, you move forward “Ride the Lightning” style (because WHEEEEEEEEEEE!)
slight range increase (maybe to 900) (at the moment it’s a gap closer that only works in almost melee range)

in addition, this spell is the swords ONLY way of making clones, with this suggestion, it would make a clone guarenteed, instead of only making a clone when in the short range it allows

So they could just summon those hounds or whatever and go “See, proof!” and the Charr would go “So? You’re still sissies if you need your gods.”

and I’ll just say “nice elementals, check mine out” and then summon my elementals :P
don’t forget, there isn’t anything that the humans can do that other magic can’t replicate, for example, flame effigies are statues powered by fire elementals, what’s to stop you from making a dog shaped one, and summoning it flame legion style?

it’s a mesmer skill that works like the signet of undeath mixed with the warrior’s #3 downed skill.
it brings you back to life for 15 seconds, if you kill an enemy you rally, if not, you get downed again
what will have happened is you were brought back for those 15 seconds, but didn’t notice the buff, then when it ran out, you were hit for 100% of your health

Yeah lets turn the squishey range class into a melee dps that does low damage and dies to everything.

Basically the 4 -5 weapons are totally wasted utility slots, none of them are viable in competitive pvp and i would be perfectly happy if they were removed and replaced with anything.

you mean like daggers? the melee option for elementalists we have right now, the one which I think has the highest burst potential of all our weapons, that people have been using since day 1 and doing perfectly well with.

I personally LOVE the skills, frost bow is good in the world and WvW for giving to melee classes that don’t have a ranged weapon with them. shield is good as a support ability, hammer is great for control with it’s jumps, stuns, knowkbacks and blinds, GS is great fun to use as well, we become what is pretty much a warrior on fire.

don’t forget, PvP isn’ the be all and end all, you also need to consider PvE and WvW as well, balancing around PvP instead of PvE was what WoW did, and it was poorer for it, classes that were underperforming in PvE but awesome in PvP were nerfed, and ones that were great in PvE but not so much in PvP were buffed, resulting in PvEers and PvPers HATING each other because of the encroachment on “their” side of the game

sadly, it’s happening to necros now, even with all of the bugs, ANet has pretty much said " we won’t give necros a buff for PvE, you just need to learn how to use death shroud better, it’s OP in PvP"
