If anything I expect them to be more surprised to see Krytans and charr on such good terms.

their relationship with the Charr may be somewhat better that we’d assume, don’t forget that the Sentinels patrol and contain the Dragonbrand and Branded, so it’s possible that they’ve had some contact with Amnoon for supplies or preventing Branded incursions.

No change in the energy costs at least in today’s 2-hour PvE stress test…

If you think that a build from a month before release is anything but release candidate, you are hopelessly naive.

They don’t make changes to release builds one month before release.

that’s strange, because I’m pretty sure there was a dev post saying that there were going to be number tweaks and bugfixes, but unfortunately they weren’t going to be in the stress test

now where could I have got that idea?

And changing those numbers won’t fix anything. Even making them 0 energy cost, those skills are useless.

the 12k bleed ticks I was getting from Razorclaw and Icerazor beg to differ.

As another consideration:

It’s possible that Turai just didn’t have enough of an impact to become a revenant legend.

Consider: Turai’s achievements were basically limited to dealing Palawa Joko a setback (which turned out to be temporary) and failing to achieve Ascension. He didn’t even reach the Hall of Heroes on his own bat – he needed the help of the Prophecies heroes for that.

He’s had enough of an impact to be present as a Mist Champion, but let’s face it, the other Mist Champions are all second-fiddles who became famous because they were part of someone else’s legend. Tybalt rides on the coatstrings of the Whispers Pact Commander. Nika helped the Factions heroes defeat Shiro, but both her and Vizu are part of Shiro’s legend. Grymm Svaard was Cobiah Marriner’s henchman.

In Turai’s case, the legend is probably Palawa Joko. Turai is part of Joko’s legend, and maybe Glint’s, rather than being a legend in his own right.

I dunno, by that logic wouldn’t Kalla be tied to Pyre’s legend? And while technically temporary, two hundred odd years free of Joko’s grip and greatly impacting the culture of an entire continent should be more than ‘second fiddle’ in my opinion. I mean, what else does a guy gotta do?

because Pyre really didn’t do much, he got drunk, trashed a temple, nearly got his warband sacrificed to destroyers, had to beg humans to help, and then decided to chicken out of actually participating in the rebellion he started.

Kalla on the other hand doubled the size of the charr armies, actually led the rebellion, beat the flame legion, united the other legions, and was pretty much the foundation for present-day charr culture.

sure, he was important to the player character because “by balthazar’s burning ballsack! a friendly charr!”, to history he’s actually pretty insignificant

Regarding the lack of links to Elona, that is actually pointed out in the game: the NPC that gives a brief overview of the elite specs mentions that he doesn’t actually know much about Renegades besides they channel “Hannah Torchblazer or something”, or even anything about normal Revenants since they are a purely Tyrian thing. (Which makes sense, the profession was pioneered by Rytlock during HoT, and there hasn’t been much contact with Elona since Joko took over, so the player, Rytlock, and the Renegade lore NPC are likely the first three Revenants to ever set foot in Elona)

yet he cripples and causes vulnerability, the two most useless conditions due to their ineffectiveness and the fact that vuln is one of the most common conditions to just passively apply.

spellbreaker disappointment on pve part

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

It might be ok in PVP, but it’ll be useless garbage in PVE.

I’m ok with that.

I’m not. I don’t do any PVP at all, and I want my new expansion thing to be useful in the area of the game that I play.

It’s total stupidity to make any specs be catered only to a specific area of the game.

you realise that that is the whole POINT of the elite specs, right?

the whole reason they exist is so the devs can make each spec good at something without the issue of needing to make them good at everything, which is an absolute NIGHTMARE to balance.

think of it this way: would you like base Warrior or Berserker to get nerfed in PvE because it’s doing really good in PvP?

of course you wouldn’t, why should you be punished for the class doing well in a mode you don’t play?

well, by making Spellbreakers a PvP focused spec, they can focus on making it good in PvP whilst keeping the nerfs done to the base class or Berserker at a minimum.

sure, you don’t get a shiny new spec this round if you are absolutely adamant that you NEVER want to do PvP, but that could easily flip around next expansion if it introduces a PvE focused spec, heck, look at Renegades: they are shaping up to be great in PvE but absolute GARBAGE in PvP

(I’ll also point out as well that from last week’s demo, Forged seem to give themselves a LOT of boons, making boon stripping a valuable ability even in PvE)

Pve just doesn’t provide the right sort of information for them since pretty much everything is effective.

you realize when people talk about PvE they actually mean “Raids and challenge mode fractals”, not open world, right?

if only we had some sort of solo instance where we could beat on a golem with more HP, without randoms “helping”, preferably one where we could simulate party buffs and conditions, heck, perhaps even with a DPS meter in the chat.

sadly, that sort of thing clearly doesn’t exist, otherwise I’m sure the devs would have given us access to it so we could actually reliably test during this beta weekend….

why would she even be considered to be among the ranks of Jalis Iron hammer, Glint, Shiro Tagachi etc?

let’s see:

she dealt the final blow against the flame legion

she united the Iron, Ash, and Blood legions

she laid the foundation for charr to integrate with the other tyrian races by getting rid of the flame legion

she liberated all female charr, who until then were seen as “get me a sandwich and squeeze out babies”

and is pretty much the founder of modern charr culture.

but no, of course she’s not as worthy as King Doomed-his-race, Shiro “mass murdering emo” Tagachi, or Realm Of Torment Sidequest Boss #5

(that said, add another +1 to Pyre, she was after all just finishing what he started, plus, he actually used a bow, Kalla was a GS wielder iirc)

It would have made so much more sense to use someone like Varesh Ossa or Turai Ossa as the rev’s new legend.

ah yes, Varesh “Hail Satan” Ossa and Turai “whoops I made all my followers die in a desert” Ossa

truly great heroes we want to learn from.

If you actually read my post you’d know that I stated that Mordremoth does not have control over them – not corruption-based control which is brainwashing. His control over the mordrem guard is a different flavor, in that he’s continuously implanting thoughts that they think are their own.

I’m beginning to see why we were able to beat mordremoth in his own mind:

he mentions "you and I are the same, we twist others to serve us. become one with me and we will be unstoppable!"

for a start, that’s why he didn’t turn trahearne into a fine paste on the walls when he suggested getting into the dream via his connection to mordremoth: he wanted us in there so we could be corrupted.

our character pointsout that we aren’t the same since he makes slaves and we make allies, but the thing is though, he’s actually RIGHT, if he just makes people think his whispers are their own thoughts, then we really are no different other than the fact that he uses telepathy to implant the thoughts (*foghorn noise*).

in fact, we may even be better at it than him: we don’t use telepathy, we use words, we don’t make them think our thoughts are their own, we actually make them change their own minds themselves, we required no magical trickery yet we have bent leaders of nations to our will without anyone realizing we’re doing it, even ourselves.

knowing that, is it a surprise that we had a stronger will in mordremoth’s mind? he manipulates by implanting thoughts, that’s why he only controls mordrem, whilst we can convince ANYONE if we try hard enough with only words.

the playing field of mordremoth’s mind was nowhere near level, it was MASSIVELY biased in our favor: his method of corruption is ineffective against us (unless you are a sylvari), whilst our "corruption" worked against him

imagine what would have happened if we’d failed though, someone as good at manipulating people as us, allied with mordremoth, we’d essentially be Scarlet 2.0

Remove Charged Quartz Crystal gating

Nice catch you two. I can see why it’s a bit gated now, though it still makes me wish they could ease up on it a bit. Finished Day 11/40 on my quest to get a full set of Celestial Gear for my Tempest due to this gating.

Another side effect of the gating is that daily quartz crystal consumption is limited, otherwise you would use up 4 stacks of quartz on day one to get your charged ones.
Quartz already went up 2s again since HoT launched.

If you want tocircumnavigate the timegate, you can buy trick or treat bags by the thousands, they occiasionally give the charged quartz, and sell the other items you get from them. If you get the bags on buy order and sell the mats as lowest listing, you shouldnt make too much loss.

the problem is, the quartz doesn’t NEED gating, you can only get 22 crystals a day (37 if you are the literal embodiment of fortune itself and manage to get the bonus 15 in your home instance),it’s an incredibly limited resource in comparison to everything else.

Elite spec weapon skins and map completion are luxuries. It may be that you really really want them, but you can enjoy the expansion without it. Difference between “need” and “want”.

It’s like saying you can’t play GW2 unless you have a legendary weapon.

No point in continuing this conversation, we’ve both said our minds.

very well, since we’reboth making final statements on the matter, here’s mine:

for me, map completion is EVERYTHING, it is my primary reason for playing.

screw the PvP, screw the raids, screw the fashion, map and story is the reason I bought the expansion.

I wonder, why did you buy the expansion if not for those reasons?

because the way you say that you “only” need gliding and mushrooms implies that you just want to wander with no goal and do events, because that is all that can be done without additional masteries.

Calcifire.1864

What’s your rush. The game is 3 weeks old. Raids are coming soon and apparently they are supposed to give decent XP too.

The thing is, you’re trying to do it fast. What else would you be doing and why aren’t you doing it?

I can’t speak for the OP, but I feel pressured into doing the masteries.

I can’t do old world completion because of the “world completion removes your HoT completion rewards” bug, meaning I HAVE to get the exploration masteries to complete the new maps before doing the old stuff.

because I have to do masteries in the relatively small HoT zones, I have two choices: do events over and over again until I am sick of them and never want to see that zone again, or grind spiders.

my main problem is Ley-Line gliding, it’s an exploration mastery, it should NOT be that far down the gliding line, it should be the third mastery at most.

I’d like to do events for their own sake, not because I have to grind masteries, the mastery grind is actually making me resent the events from repetition.

the other masteries, sure, the rush isn’t needed I’m fine with slowly getting progress towards things like vendors or hidden mushrooms or bonus materials, but things like ley-line gliding, poison mastery, updrafts, and nuhoch wallows are things that I feel like I NEED to rush because they block important content like map completion

and Ley Line Gliding

barring exploiting a glitch, it is impossible to complete Auric Basin without Ley Line Gliding

Huh? I’ve done it and I don’t have LL Gliding. Anet always has secondary routes.

And map competition is my definition of a luxury. I’m not sure if it’s bugged or not, but I didn’t even get any rewards when I completed the maps.

All you need to enjoy the expansion is gliding and mushrooms. The rest are luxuries. I guess we can add updraft in there so you can play the final map, but updraft is level 2. So a total of 4 mastery points.

You definitely don’t need the poison mastery for anything useful.

map completion is not my definition of a luxury, in fact, the map completion, elite specs, and story are my primary reasons for buying the expansion, your “luxury” is my “requirement”. funny isn’kitten how people have different reasons for doing things?

and yes, you ran into the bug, lets hope you have a map left to complete, otherwise you can’t get your elite spec weapon skin, and you are screwed out of a legendary on that character.

now, explain to me how you got the western hero point in lastgear standing, without using the words “experimental rifle”, because that “jump out of bounds and relog” trick is the glitch I was referring to.

and poison mastery is required for the chak stonghold PoI and HP in tangled Depths, needed for certain events in dragon’s stand, and until recently, was required for AB (along with adrenal mushrooms), (and was actually required for the story until a week after launch)

and Ley Line Gliding

same with Dragon’s Stand, except you can’t even glitch it

you cannot complete Tangled Depths without Itzel Poison Mastery

the least gated map is Verdant Brink, which only requires Updrafts

“then why not do old world completion if it’s so boring to do HoT masteries?”

BEAUSE TYRIA IS BUGGED! I’d gladly do Tyria completion, except if you get Tyria Completion, you will not recieve completion rewards from HoT zones, Southsun, Dry Top, or Silverwastes.

I’ll make this clear: have no problem with masteries or gating as a concept, my beef is with requiring boatloads of xp to get them.

if I had to gather ley-infused stone and chak goop to treat my glider’s wings so they could catch ley-currents, I’d be fine.

I’m NOT fine with needing to run DS 50 times to grind XP, getting three masteries I don’t care about (seriously, stealth gliding? that is not useful AT ALL, there is nowhere in the open world where I have thought “gee I wish I had stealth gliding” ) , just so I can finish getting map completion and start doing events because I want to do them, rather than because I HAVE to do them.

Levelling masteries is a chore if you make it.
I’ve leveled basically all of my jungle masteries by PLAYING, without caring, and it was FUN to unlock new abilities and go back where I previously couldn’t.

Of course sometimes I’ve wanted a mastery fast, and I’ve worked on it to unlock it (some occasional Spider farm or COF farm) but it was my choice to speed it up and thus I shouldn’t complain it was a chore, I wasn’t asked/supposed to.

EDIT the biggest mastery to unlock is a lvl 6 one and asks for 4kk+ exp. Pact6 (autoloot) for example. I wanted that one fast, and I went for a farm in COF, loaded up boosters (old exp booster, new exp booster, food/nour with exp, fireworks, killstreak): 2kexp per kill, pack of 12 every 10 secs max = 24k/10s = 2.4k/s.
Every minute is 144k
Every hours is 8.6kk
It’s not always possible to keep up this rate but AT LEAST you should expect 5kk/h.
So use boosters if you farm, 5h for a single mastery is nuts.

My 2 copperz.

can you share more info on this spider farming location?

I broke down today and tried the fabled spider farm.

OH MY GOD IT IS BEAUTIFUL

I got half of my poison mastery done in an hour.

it’s near one of the jaka itzel pact encampments, you need bounceshrooms to reach it.

I mean, sure, people will say “but metroidvaniaaaaaaa >:(”,but the thing is: I don’t care about metroidvania when it’s behind grind, when I have to find the ice beams or space jump, sure, but “grind 8M exp for ley line gliding” isn’t fun

Anybody remembers those??

speaking of sylvari-charr, am I the only one who gets the impression that Mordrem Vinetenders are Mordrem Charr?

they have digitigrade legs, horns, hunched backs, poiny teeth (in what appears to be an approximation of a muzzle), “hair” on the back of their necks like charr have, and maintain the mordrem equivalent of siege weaponry, the only thing they lack is a tail.

they are clearly not Mordrem Quetzal, but other than charr, there aren’t any other races in the jungle for mordremoth to copy that would result in that shape.

That model is also called Mordrem Grunt, Mordrem Mender, and, get this, Mordrem Troll.

I take it those are the “copy-catting” mordrem version of trolls while the “hive trolls” are like the mordrem wolves – mordrem plants that are using corpses as puppets.

I just checked ingame, they are not the same model (very noticable if you compare their target portraits), it’s similar, but the grunt is grey, has very different horns, and a different face (just compared against a grunt in jaka itzel when getting flax).

I’m speaking about the vinetenders in Dragon’s Stand, the light green ones that look like mordremoth can’t do lips well and protect the spitfires.

there’s no implication about it, in Rata Novus you observe that Canach has been uncharacteristically un-sarcastic, and he points out that as you get closer to Dragon’s Stand, Mordremoth’s voice gets louder and louder, but inside RN it’s completely quiet and he was savoring the mental silence.

from Dragon’s Stand’s final boss, it seems that with Faolain gone, the NC has become much more moderate in their beliefs.

platform 1 of the DS Boss fight has the new grand duchess of the nightmare court as an ally, she points out that this time they are working together instead of against each other, and after the fight mentions that she enjoyed being on our side and that we should be allies more often.

I wouldn’t be surprised if the NC turned out to be somewhat dying out, their original purpose was threefold: make people aware of the Pale Tree’s favoritism (which they succeeded at, their formation made the PT stop neglecting the non-firstborn and create the Avatar of the Pale Tree), free the sylvari from servitude to anyone (be that mordremoth or the pale tree’s expectations, again they succeeded there too, the pale tree and firstborn have become much less overbearing when it comes to ventari’s teachings when compared to what they were like in the past, and they helped kill mordremoth as part of the Pact), and to show the sylvari that the world is not always as nice as the dream would lead you to believe (again, succeeded, whilst the Nightmare was previously the only major source of “jadedness” in the dream, the events of the past few years will have given the unborn sylvari a much better view of the world)

now that so many sylvari have seen how cruel life really can be, it’s possible that the NC will tone it down a bit, they have achieved all of their goals: the tree now pays attention to them without suffocating them with ventari’s teachings, and the sylvari (and the dream by extension) have begun to become less naive.

at this point, there is probably no difference between a more moderate courtier and a regular sylvari, it’s just the extreme psychopaths that are the concern now

the pact was already preparing for fighting kralks, of all dragons he is the one most likely to take a personal (rather than strategic) interest in glint’s egg, rytlock now can cleanse the foefire and let the charr focus on the branded (and they are the ones most likely to attack their minion problem), and with the focus on Glint, it would make sense to go to the crystal desert

as for the others, it would be INSANELY bad writing to have another “hey look another unknown dragon!” plot so soon, so that’s Sbubbles out (and from an ingame perspective, sailing from tyria to cantha is a stupid idea when you are fighting a water dragon, going to elona first would make more sense)

Jormag’s tooth is still invulnerable, so unless geting the tooth to be scratched is the focus of the next living story, Jormag is out.

Primordus is possible, though we don’t know where he is and he’s really not been making a nuisance of himself. we may know his weakness now though since taimi is in rata novus.

Thought Rytlock was the first Revenant?

Honestly based on the concept art for the Revenant I was under the assumption that Razah was the first revenant.

Razah is a Ritualist ( unless you change his profession ). And that isn’t Razah’s concept art. Unless I’ve missed something somewhere.

I believe they meant that they look similar.

as for the OP, the way legends work isn’t as concrete as we see ingame, we don’t “equip” legends and gain access to skills, we invoke them and they show us how to do their skills by giving us their knowledge and muscle memory.

I’d guess that they would either show us how to do a unique technique that they knew (eg, invoking rytlock would possibly have him show us how to quell ghosts), or just give nothing besides another voice in your head to speak to, since you already know everything they could teach you (that said, a less experienced revenant channeling a more experienced revenant would likely learn generic revenant abilities like walking through the mists much faster than if they didn’t get advice from the revenant legend).

it’s also important to realize that you are invoking a person, not a class, invoking Khilbron would be very different to invoking Livia or the Master of Whispers, despite all three being human necromancers.

Because maps need to be designed for the mechanics within the game, and adding that might have altered the map in a way outside of its intended design— with the potential pitfall that whatever you added is so good, after all it wasn’t part of the design— that it breaks the content so badly it becomes almost mandatory. The new maps, for example, are designed with gliding as a main focus.

You can’t just put stuff in, just because.

thinking about it, if they ever do a crystal desert expansion, mounts could be a neat mechanic there (and only there, much like how gliders are magus falls only)

I’ve got 100% completion on verdant brink, and only need poison mastery and ley line gliding to get a few hero points and complete the other three maps.

I have participated in literally every event in the expansion.

it’s not new anymore for me, and the only thing stopping me from getting it complete is the few million exp that blocks me from the masteries.

it’s not a fun endgoal, it’s a shadow looming over me, I can’t move on and do what I want like getting achievements because of this stupid xp grind.

I would rather do a boring farm for a few hours to get it over with, than some fun events that I will grow to hate from endless repetition.

strangely, not a single newbie has complained, every single complaint has been from veteran players, usually with commander tags moaning how there are too many tags on the map now.

strangely, despite how many people complain about the entire map wearing mentor tags, nobody in my guild has ever seen more than three up at a time.

it’s almost like people are lying to make the problem bigger than it is. I wonder why?

Well, newbies don’t know the game / forum. =P

I mean, they think it was always this messed up. MAybe the newbie see this mess and don’t want to play anymore? I don’t know.

Probably, with time, the Mentor tag will be used only for the intended purpose, to mentor newbies, but now, it is just a mess =/

it’s actually rather funny. yesterday I was doing Tarir, three mentors and one commander were leading.

there were two other commander tags on the map, both whining for help for hero pointsat the mushroom king and vinetooth, and amusingly demanding the mentors detag because they were distracting people from the commander tags.

I have no idea how many legit newbies get trolled by these apples each day but i will leave it for them to speak up

strangely, not a single newbie has complained, every single complaint has been from veteran players, usually with commander tags moaning how there are too many tags on the map now.

strangely, despite how many people complain about the entire map wearing mentor tags, nobody in my guild has ever seen more than three up at a time.

it’s almost like people are lying to make the problem bigger than it is. I wonder why?

Not so much related but I noticed Shiro Impossible Odds stance deactivates when you enter a new territory of a map. Not switching maps – but when you are exploring and a new area ia discovered it deactivates.

I’d consider it as the cause overall, except it’s happened in areas that were not transitions like that, so I don’t think that is the direct cause every time. It’s about as random as the ‘May Lyssa Confound You’ that I hear randomly when on my human Revenant.

although I will agree this does in fact seem to cancel it as well.

edited due to trying to do too much at the same time and clarity >.>

iirc the “may lyssa confound you” is related to applying a condition if you have lyssa as your patron god.

there is also “grenth take you” when you kill an enemy, “by the fires of balthazar” when you give or gain a boon, “dwayna bless you” when you heal yourself or someone else, or “may kormir enlighten you” when removing a condition.

I doubt that the raid will touch Malyk’s tree. His tree was said to follow the river, which would put it in Tangled Depths/Auric Basin.

I fear there’s a chance that the blighting trees in either Dragon’s Stand or southern Auric Basin is actually Malyk’s tree. But with no show of Malyk, how are we to even know?

maybe it’s just east of Tangled Root, not at the end of the river (which should end with The Falls, but doesn’t) but before hand.

Speaking of The Falls, I was not prepared for the feels revisitng Zinn’s lair.

a golem with the letters OX carved on its casing…

Rest in Golem Heaven buddy :<

I do wonder which golem that is. Mind you, it is not M.O.X. – M.O.X. didn’t look like that. That’s a unique little overgrown golem there, so if they intended it to be M.O.X. they would have made it look like him. It. Yeah.

I would first guess G.O.X., our mentally challenged golem of laughs and the Dhuum Song, but G.O.X. left with Zinn on his exile, so unless Zinn returned to the lab before going to Rata Novus, then it’s not G.O.X.

In Novus, we see a L.O.X., so it’s probably just a random O.X. golem. Though for some reason the pitch of that recording wants me to say G.O.X. I think because the pitch matches Gir from Invader Zimm, which G.O.X. and Zinn are based off of.

the reason I think it may be MOX is because of all of the leadup to it, the itzel are all talking about how much history the place has, one of the asura points out that the OX classification would mean more to him if he’d listened better in history class (note it’s a history class, not golemancy class, implying they were talking about a specific historically significant golem rather than OX golems as a whole), and the fact that the asura even make reference to MOX’s “WOULD YOU LIKE TO PLAY A GAME OF PO-LY-MOCK?” line by saying “would you like to play a game of golem chess?”

there’s too much focus for it to just be a random OX golem.

(I’m wondering if the model differences are either to do with graphical limitations of GW1, or time constraints of HoT? as in either “this is what MOX was always meant to look like” or “making a unique model for a reference only GW1 players will look for or understand is not a good use of time”)

it’s nice to have a henchman with me leeching my rewards again

honestly, this time she can have them, I have enough of the stuff

I wouldn’t have guessed she’d be one of the exalted though, “dedicated” isn’t exactly a word I’d use to describe her… maybe she just got really fed up of needing to eat and wanted to have the ultimate nap?

Haha, indeed it does seem strange that Herta would end up an Exalted, but then it was rather strange that she of all the Nightfall henchmen was the one to go to Eye of the North.

considering how her running theme seems to be that she tries to do the right thing, volunteers without thinking, and then ends up being in a situation where she wishes she was either eating or sleeping, I’m guessing she probably got dragged along to the trials by her friend, ended up taking the trial because she was already there, and then it turned out that her adventures with our past selves wound up making her suitable for becoming an exalted :P

Except for the commentary about the detour to Tarir, TelvaniKsir.9180’s view more or less matches mine but is a bit more… hostile sounding.

Trahearne’s death was very obviously a catering to the playerbase and their hate of Trahearne. Eir’s death and Scruffy’s over-dramaticized “death” was very obviously done solely for character development of Braham and Taimi respectively.

And is “a powerful Wyld Hunt” really the best Anet can do for Caithe’s actions? With that reasoning, it’s painfully clear that the only purpose behind Caithe’s actions was to show Wynne’s death and have the reveal of sylvari being dragon minions in such a manner. Honestly, Season 2 could have been 2 episodes shorter (imagine if it was the Shadow of the Dragon we killed, not some oversized mordrem troll, at the end of episode 6 and this marked the launch of the Pact fleet) without the disgrace that was Faolain in the flashbacks. Congratulations, ArenaNet, you made the entire story ending of Season 2 utterly stupid in retrospection. Would have been better if her reason was that the Pact Commander is “powerful but far from subtle and subtly is what’s needed to traverse enemy territory while carrying what they want” – even if that is still a poor excuse.

And can we PLEASE have character development that does not require the death of another? Let’s review Seasons 1, 2, and HoT:

  • Kasmeer’s development? Caused by near-death of Marjory. Originally was going to be death of Marjory, but ArenaNet – thankfully – fixed this.
  • Marjory’s development? Caused by death of Belinda.
  • Caithe’s development? Caused by death of Wynne.
  • Braham’s development? Caused by death of Eir.
  • Taimi’s development? Caused by “death” of Scruffy.
  • Canach’s development? Caused by death/struggle of Trahearne.

That’s poor writing, ArenaNet. I don’t think we have a single case of character development since Nightfall that isn’t caused by the death of another. While a loved or hated one’s death does bring out changes in someone, it’s not the only thing that does.

Sometime next week I think I’ll write up a full review of HoT both goods and bads, but in short: the majority of things in Act 3 and Act 4 (including open world) are rather on the poor side. And this saddens me.

don’t forget that our character development is driven by the deaths of Tybalt/Sieran/Forgal

so of the main characters, LITERALLY EVERYONE BUT RYTLOCK has had dead-person related character development

DEATH FOR EVERYONE!

it’s designed to be a “second autoattack”.

notice that our other spear skills are dual-natured: a poison bubble that explodes for direct damage, a DoT application over time that can be consumed for a shadowstep.

our #1 ability would be useless for power builds, but having a power based AA would be bad for condi builds, so we get two AA’s, one power, one condi

zhaitan was eating random magical objects, discrete packets of energy (and was starving when we killed him due to how we were fighting him). mordremoth was plugged into the ley lines directly and eating MUCH more energy.

Zhaitan was eating the magic of Orr from the Artesian Waters that was strong enough to pull the gods’ attention while in the Mists.

He was also eating the magic in living beings and artifacts over 150 years.

Mordremoth was eating from the ley lines for about one year.

Which would feel fuller of energy?

it depends on what the artesian waters actually IS.

we don’t actually know how much more powerful ley energy is compared to the artesian waters. for example, if the artesian waters is just a spring on top of a ley line, then it’s like comparing a rechargable battery to a power outlet, and mordremoth was consuming power from multiple ley lines (at least 3 major ones if the final cutscene is anything to go by)

want an example of it being useful in PvE at higher level?

“I’m going to be doing the vampire HP, does anyone want to come?”

half of the map then responds with a variety of “yes”, “sure”, “FINALLY”, and “sweet! where?”

“I’ll take you from the nearest WP”

I tag up,wait for about 30 people to show up, then lead them to the HP.then I tell them how to do the fight and 4 minutes later 30 more people have another HP done.

now tell me: I was leading, teaching, and guiding on a lv 80 map for players who didn’t know where or how to do that point.

was I not mentoring? was that not an appropriate use of the tag? because I sure as hell felt like a teacher leading a field trip to murder a vampire

still waiting for the story to unfold…

what is the elder dragon role in this world? just to destroy or they are there to balance the flow of magic?

why do glint want to replace the elder dragon?

we know from the Priory’s transaltions of old tomes that killing off all the EDs is a Very Bad Idea, since losing them would cause tyria to fall off reality.

at the same time, letting the ED’s live is also a bad idea because they are jerks who would drink tyria dry of magic.

most likely, glint’s egg is there to absorb magic like the EDs, but also to be raised by the exalted in such a way that it winds up wanting to protect life on tyria rather than ignore it as the current EDs do, it would still consume and regulate magic, but it wouldn’t do it to the point that it would subject tyria to “the dessication of its magic”

Exalted history - A Study in Gold

in Lore

Calcifire.1864

For those who do not know, there is an achievement called A Study in Gold in Auric Basin that is basically a scavenger hunt for lore. Specifically, it talks about the history of the Exalted and forgotten as well as Glint’s legacy and a hint to what it is.

The full text, unformatted, was put up on the wiki I noticed so I figured I’d let those here know.

  • Exalted were “transformed” 200 years ago, not 300 like the blog said. Or even 250, around the time of GW1 itself.
  • Exalted come from the Zephyrite’s earlier generation(s), before they were called Zephyrites.
  • The Forgotten are extinct on Tyria.
  • There’s a small lore discrepnacy here about when the text was recorded. “The Last Forgotten” talk about Glint’s death, but the city was hibernating and completed at that point.
  • Apparently before establishing Tarir, the Forgotten established the two guild halls beginning with Lost Precipice then Guilded Hollows. Each for the role of Glint’s legacy.
  • Glint’s legacy will not be fully realized until its completed, supposedly. It’s a very long term goal and plan that will eventually lead to a rebirth of civilization. Glint’s egg is only a fraction of the legacy.
  • Not part of this achievement but the story around it and its follow up (they create a quest chain kind of thing), but one of the Exalted seem to be Herta from Elona though I may be wrong.

Trahearn’s dead felt kinda forced/Fan service to me.

yeah, everything about trahearne in HoT seems to have been fanservice

“I SHOULD HAVE GOT SALADBOWL” – player gets broken caladbolg

“OMG TRAHEARNE SHOULDN’T LEAD THE PACT” – NPCs are CONSTANTLY saying how awesome you are and how you are the only one holding things together

“I WISH I COULD MURDER THAT STUPID SALAD” – wish granted

“LOLOLOL THIS WON’T END WELL” – they actually reference this in the last fight, if you haven’t chosen an order, instead of your mentor you get trahearne as your final illusion, he says “This won’t end well… FOR YOU!”

I’m fully expecting that if we go to elona, kormir will come back from the mists to help us, get corrupted by kralks, and we have to kill her too
