Well it just hit me.
They’ve been forcing you to play new content by making old content seem lame. IE gold nerf to dungeons.
Maybe this is their way to push you to play Stronghold for a couple of weeks.
Confirmed. DH excels at killing random mobs on a map.
Only weaknesses are PvP, Fractals and Raids.
Do you guys think that not having ranked right now will prevent people from abusing it by queuing when they weren’t aware of combat skills and map rotations?
At least you have to be rank 20 to play ranked and no crap maps.

It received zero reductions…. it’s just an underwhelming skill that adds insult to injury by rooting you as well….

Eh, I feel like WoR is underwhelming in PvP. I prefer for our team to just pressure the Rangers as oppose to having a long CD WoR.

How does anyone know what mmr is what if it’s invisible to us. It’s not like dota2 where you can clearly see if you are above or under 4k mmr
I’m going to try mace shield bow. The number 5 skill could add some cc in a team fight and force people off a point to avoid the cage, and the auto attack can cause big cripple uptime if it’s bouncing off opponents.
Then I’ll see if I cam add dragons maw as a game changer during fights. I too will ditch AH and try to see if the aegis spam heals plus our 5k virtue heal will make up for it.
Dragonhunter. Ironically, I can’t stand the elite spec, but guardian is my main and she gets to play through HoT first.
Once that is done, there are daredevil and scrapper I would really love to look into, but those are (former) dungeon characters which don’t have much world-completion. So that’ll be a matter of simply grinding out the hero points.
Same boat here except I don’t think DH will be of any use in PVE so I’ll probably just go for Rev stuff first and use vanilla guard as usual in the new content.
I’ll be trying out some DH in pvp. I had great success last bwe but that was with the 9k spike trap that was reduced to a wet noodle now.
The ability to be interrupted is annoying. Usually I have my VoR as a safety net versus conditions. But when I get knockdown mid flight, I just have to watch myself burn to death. Rangers interrupt my flight alllll the time.
I would love some evade frames while flying.
It is annoying that running virtues traitline is mandatory on every single guardian build whether it be PvE, PvP, WvW or whatever because it makes our bad virtues usable.
Staff requires you to stand in the symbol a while if you don’t want it to run out in a couple of seconds.
Burn guard on the other hand can blink and judges on a combined 1800 units. Makes a fair difference, plus out rotating a bunker isn’t hard if your teammates are losing the 1v1s
I agree that burn is easier. You just have to worry about yourself and keeping eyes on what’s going to mess you up with the occasional team res. When playing bunker, you are focusing on your teammates hp, conditions, if they are getting focused, need stability, etc.. all while making sure you don’t get bursted down which can happen in a blink of an eye vs certain comps if you aren’t actively mitigating damage.
Also rotating as a bunker requires more thinking, because you generally have to commit since you move so slow point to point.
I think you are confused about where the majority of revenue comes from. The championship streams for this game get like 500 viewers. Very different than the thousands of viewers a single dota streamer gets just pubbing.
I use the rabbit because it seems to rustle jimmies having the rabbit stomp you.

I’ve made some adjustments. Dropping virtues for valor allows you to maintain AH.

You don’t want to drop Virtues. You’ll realize this when you start playing the spec.
Also agree. The extra stab and condi clense is sooo good. I’d try out out that Sentinel build I spoke of earlier first and see how the survival is. Maybe try that trap heal with that.

Line of Warding is pretty dank. I like putting it in the middle of a point if find myself in a bad situation where we must hold a point or lose and I’m 1v2.
And I’m doing my circle dance of dodges and blocks it often interrupts unsuspecting foes trying to keep on me.
It’s possible. But I may even say go Sentinel and since no AH then go mace/shield sword/focus… Morph ran some DH bunker build last beta I think. Maybe he can chime in.
we gonna do the raids in our guild for fun and the challenge itself until we make it work with whatever classes people want to bring. It will take time until the strategy guides are out but after that with a little practice I do not see it matter much.
An even if it is something not everyone is to complete with his favorite classe then so be it.

This thread is not really about that. You can do most content with a few members being dead weight.
This thread is about whether or not Guards still bring something worth while to the group, or do we become a burden if other classes are vastly superior to us in regards to what we usually bring to a group.
Run a full necro team for all we care, but the thread is about if Guard is still a staple or bench warmer.
Ehhhh, sounding like you guys are having the same problems as us necromancers….so from what I’m getting at revenant and Druid are pretty much pushing you guys out?
They are either giving part of what makes us good to them or making what we offer seem less important.
So many nonreflectable crap being added to raids and new content it’s annoying. As well as unblockable attacks. But the biggest problem is with so much little damage constantly being thrown around in raids, it is becoming much harder to get reliable blocks on the hard hitting attacks.
Oh and while they were at it, they nerfed our 4 second quickness ELITE!!!!

The reason? Grenades. Why? Because Grenade skills can miss without your opponent pressing the dodge button. And because slick shoes isn’t viable anymore, you can’t say Engi is an easy mode class because that would be ignorant.
Yeah sure Flamethrower isn’t hard to play but at least it has 10 million counterplays compared to Ele, Mesmer, Guard, Ranger, in which those four classes just spam defensive mechanics and reliable damage.
Ele just spams evades while dealing damage, it takes no skill. Thief D/P is just as hard. Non-GS Zerker Warrior is hard as well.
TL;DR Pick Engi.

Changes to their new paid content is not comparable to a problem we’ve had for years. Of course they are going to try and make the new stuff awesome so you feel obligated to buy it. But the only thing that confuses me is why Dragonhunter is in the state it currently finds itself…
Spirit weapons I feel will always be like traps even if they fix them. “Could be cool but we need to bring our actually vital skills”. (Except SoA in some PVE content)

However you may feel about the change itself, this is actually pretty solid community interaction.But it’s not a solid answer. The question is WHY do this? If Dungeons were infact, very popular, why try to force players to other parts of the game? Whn not actually put resources into new dungeons. So much for “play your way”.

Its obvious why. You can run dungeons on a F2P account but the new Fractal and Raids will require HOT. So you limit what good stuff people can do for free, by forcing them to buy the expansion to play the good stuff. They realized dungeons can keep people happy for a long time, and they can’t have that if they want people buying this expansion.
Its also why rev is receiving so much love in PVE and PVP.
I suggest you hop aboard the Rev train while you still can. We have cried our lungs out on spirit weapons virtues and shield for years now. I honestly don’t expect anything else major to change now until a balance patch

I’m absolutely estatic with the changes we’ve gotten. It’s only a matter of whether or not Guard will survive the Power creep.
Its about selling the expansion content. Same reason why they are now reducing Gold rewards from dungeons.
They want you to feel the NEED to get the expansion. There is no reason to make base guardian abilities better, when you can focus on expansion classes/elites in terms of making money.
Hence why im contemplating quitting a class with over 4k hours under my belt.
You are absolutely right, base guardian abilities will NEVER see an improvement for a year or so. A best Anet will try to improve the dragonhunter, which is bound to remain the worst elite spec in the game.
Guardians already are behind the power creep, and even more so now that our elite is complete crap. The stronger other elite specs get, the farther behind we fall.
But we are in a good spot remember
i main necro, burn gaurds are my favorite snack.
I love finding a necro with not much life force, then putting 12 stacks of burn followed by my 3 second invuln and watch them squirm as they burn.

Here is how I’d change spirit weapons.
Hammer: causes a pulsing tremor(radius 300) . Used to control a point or assist in rezzing teammates
Long bow: periodically fires a cleansing arrow causing all conditions to be turned to boons on a radius(600)
Shield: samething really
Sword: periodically attacks in a circle causing 10 stacks of vuln on hit (600 radius)
I hate passive things like ranger pets, minions, spirit weapons, gadgets etc..
It’s best for everyone in PvP if we don’t encourage them to start buffing crap like that unless it’s pure support and no damage.
If they want traps to be viable, they need to reduce cooldowns and add traits that allow them to do things like remove conditions or do some healing like monks focus but for traps.
So is the idea to remove Purging flames from this? As far as I’m concerned, CoP isn’t going anywhere and JI is too handy plus it’s another stun break and burning applicator and heal!
I feel like forcing a trap is the weirdest way to make burn work on DH. I wished there was a way to get burn from our bow outside of VOJ.

To learn a class, unranked. To play for real, ranked. If they remove Skyhammer and Courtyard then I could recommend unranked, but really I only suffer unranked if I am learning a brand new class.

They said they wanted the new Elite specs to require more skill. Dragonhunter is a perfect example of that. Can’t handle the Dragon? Don’t join the hunt.
Laying down traps and waiting on your enemy to trigger them is not a display of skill. It’s a dependence on a lack thereof from your enemy.
This is what you call looking at things in a vacuum. The DH is much more than just traps but you’re too busy trying to claim that it’s bad to admit that.
Good point. It’s not just traps. It also takes away from our vital traitlines in PvP as well as gives us virtues that can be interrupted by skilled opponents, and these virtues don’t remove condi or give their boons until after the cast…
Guys, let’s be fair: Yes, traps are awful, and DH is lacking sorely, and this sucks, but it was a bug. It needed to be fixed.
Let’s be honest, yes traps suck, yes the trait new line doesn’t synergize well with other lines, yes the virtues can be interrupted causing none of the boons or condi removal to happen, yes the bow feels underwhelming, yes they didn’t give us a 25% move, yes they nerfed the only usable trap but…. i forgot where I was going with this.
Well, you really don’t have anything giving you vitality besides the 560 from your marauder amulet, I’ll post you my build, which is pretty sustain-y. If you are up against skilled players swap “save yourselves” with “Hold the line” It does pretty well in 1v1’s, and its decent for picking off people in teamfights

What kind of build is that. Elite signet is awful, renewed focus is so much better it hurts. Idk how you ate leaving virtues out of any pvp build. That is ludicrous. This build is just so confusing I stress to any new player to stay away from this thing.

This literally was THE only useful trap. And the one thing besides the VoC change I liked. Without that trap, the damage potential of dragon hunter is awful. I knew this was going to happen, but fooled myself into false hope…
Dragonhunter will be really good at shooting teq at 1600 units away. Dat max range chanp farm meta is strong. Then have staff for trash mop marking. You are now the open world champ farm king. Outside of that….. base guard trait lines synergize together in a way Dragonhunter cannot compete with.
