I had a beta invite from another big name game and I’ve been trying it out. It’s not bad….it’s pedestrian. They have a whole lot of work to do before it’s half the game that Guild Wars 2 is.

Agreed! If we’re talking about the same game, spent around six hours in it and still no more invested or interested than I was before!

Mmm. Also in agreement. I shall say no more.

Map Completion - Metrics on Player Anger?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ceridwen.6703

Ugh, there are four of the same and you have to explore them all? That does sound a bit excessive.

Is it possible to guest another server? Or maybe to politely ask the other team to let you just pop over for you PoIs and SPs? I haven’t been there, so I wouldn’t know. I’ve found that asking nicely goes a long way. . . I guess I’m just throwing things out there.

There’s three the "same" (although the locations have different names). Eternal Battlegrounds has a different map. Believe me, you want those homeworld maps to be the same, particularly if you’re a PvE solo type like me. It’s a help, not a hindrance. It’s not as bad as it seems.

You can’t guest to another server for WvW completion anymore. I managed my first completion this way, and it worked well. However, I just completed my second 100% yesterday entirely on my own server, so it is possible. I am a complete care bear, but it took me a little over a month with some luck, being a handy combination of stubborn and patient, and adapting. I’m not particularly epic at WvW, but I kind of feel I’m a little bit better as a player having completed the maps.

I did it part zerg, part solo. No parties (I’m shy). I’m a terribly easy target, even as a mesmer, because I’m fairly clueless, but I suck up my losses and carry on. Maybe I actually learned something about my profession every time. Or about myself: any time I got a bit fed up - and I did, there’s no lying about it - I went and did something else instead (including changing my traits and skills!). It’s not like I had to do WvW all the time. I did bits of it here and there instead, intermingled with things I’ve found more fun traditionally. If your server has teamspeak running, by the way, try to use it. You don’t have to zerg, but it can be helpful or just kitten funny to listen in.

Whether it should be included in 100% map completion? I believe so.

It’s hard if you’ve only done PvE, but then so are dungeons. So are fractals (never done them, and don’t want to!). So’s PvP. So’s some parts of the Personal Story. Even PvE itself can be hard if you’re caught wrong-footed. Personally I think the Tribulation Rift scaffolding, or the Diessa Wall Breach Blitz of Doom are much more intimidating and horrible than anything in WvW, but YMMV. I’ve done them vistas/puzzles enough now to know what I’m doing (maybe there’s something in that?), but they will always have my stomach in my mouth. There’s jumping puzzles I can’t even do and will never be able to. That’s okay. Those aren’t for me. I’ll never have titles for them. I’ll never have all the Dive Master locations because of that (34/38! bah humbug).
Similarly, 100% map completion may not be for everyone. So if you don’t want it, don’t do it. If you do, then... do. And don’t fret about it either way.

Just wanted to stop by and say, well, I’m loving Guild Wars 2!

This weekend I’m supposed to be in a beta stress test for another game which shall remain nameless, but playing that for a few hours last night made me realise just how much this game has compared to all other mmos!

Oddly enough, I’m doing the same thing this weekend... but after a few hours last night, I think I’ll be back in Tyria today.

Is This Game Actually Fun?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

Inb4 someone says “Subjective”

Meh, that’s where I was going to go with this: “Define fun”.

But it is just that: subjective. It depends on how you determine your own fun. I watched
this on YouTube the other day, and maybe it’ll help you work out, in a fun way, what it is you like regarding gaming. From there on in, you can apply that to GW2 – and in a fair appraisal of all its parts, from your own PoV (no one else can really do this for you). Then you can decide if it’s actually fun by your own personal definition.

My answer, for me, is yes. Yes it’s fun.
For you, OP, it sounds like it’s not fun. Conduct your fair appraisal as above, and see if you continue to believe that, and you have your answer.

Belzibu is right, they don’t care about disabled people because they think it’s a small community. But if more games had full keybinding, for example, more disabled people would be able to play.

I completely agree. I have no idea why it’s hard to think outside the box a little further in terms of player base.

A million +1s for you, and hopefully a more suitable game experience here in the not-to-distant future. Please take note, Anet.

I tend to get over to the tent opposite the heart giver, bunker down and make a brew. Every now and then, you should take a break from the computer; this heart allows you to do that. I think of it as "care in the community".

As for the other heart mentioned: "Bunny! Bunny! Bunny!"
Pick up the food, press one for a little speed boost, dodge roll, press one again. Also if you have a swiftness skill, use it. Scare rabbits, and then murder minotaurs. Don’t recall if finding fur patches help or not, but I imagine they do, so that as well.

What happened to the manifesto?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

the thing is, though, it certainly wasn’t the entire community. in fact, there was a lot of people who repeatedly argued against those calling for a gear treadmill to be put in. in fact, if you take a look at the NCsoft’s financial report, when they announced ascended gear in november, their stock value plummeted. it took months for it to even stabilize and never gained back how much they lost. it was clearly a bad decision that being pushed by a minority. instead of caving, anet should have just said “no. that goes against our intention for the game and the expectations given to our customers. we’re not going to flush our game down the toilet because a very vocal minorty can’t accept that this isn’t WoW.” and the entire debacle would have been avoided. they would have lost those who would were calling for a treadmill, but would have kept a lot more players in the long run.

True, it wasn’t the entire community that wanted this. Rarely does it ever occur that an entire gaming community can agree on something. However, it was enough of the community crying out for it that Anet thought it was a good idea. That’s the big difference. Such business decisions are based (generally) on what the majority desires, how easily it could be implemented, and weights the potential gain vs loss to determine if the plan should be pushed forward. Based on the information they had at the time, it obviously looked like it should have been a good thing. Whether it has actually turned out to work in their favor, we really don’t know. We do not have that data to review and make determinations on.

Had Anet simply said ‘no’ as you suggest, the stock price may have fell just as drastically. Maybe not. Then again, maybe the stock price falling didn’t actually have anything to do with ascended. Again, we can make assumptions based on what we’ve seen, but we really don’t know. We don’t have the data. Honestly, we can go around and around arguing such, but the fact of the matter is that Anet obviously had something that made them think this was the correct path, and that’s what they went with. The decision is theirs as the developers, not ours. We can voice our opinions, and then support that opinion with our pocketbooks, but ultimately the final decision is never ours. (Kind of like voting…the person with the bigger bribe wins, doesn’t matter who you voted for…)

At this point ascended is in the game. We’re stuck with it. It is not going away. (Can you imagine the uproar if they did remove it now? Oh dear gods….) At this point, the best we can do is mitigate the damage by loudly telling them how we’d like to see it fixed… like more acquisition, less grind, obtainable by level 80 rather than only after, etc etc. Additionally, we can band together than tell them, again very loudly, that we do not desire any more tiers, and that we want the gear tiers to stop here. Just remember to be polite and rational about it. They are more likely to listen to (and accept) a well thought out argument, than some wild rant.

Now look here! – you’re being rather too sensible in this thread… stop it at once! Think of the popcorn!

I came in from Age of Conan, which is also a good-looking game in terms of highly atmospheric and haunting landscapes, but GW2 is a much nicer all-round experience. The artwork is definitely one reason why I’m always levelling my alts on the maps these days. There’s moments where I’ll get up a height, take it all in and enjoy; it provides a sweet counterpoint to those half-hours when I’ve been on the train, or had a mad time of it in WvW. I even revisit places with my 80s because I enjoy the landscapes so much.

What Gifts?

Have we become so complacent in our communication that words have lost their very meaning? What about the word ‘gift’ denotes that I must first complete an escort mission, kill mobs or do a jumping puzzle before receiving it?

‘gift’

noun
noun: gift; plural noun: gifts
1. a thing given willingly to someone without payment; a present.

2. a natural ability or talent.

verb: gift; 3rd person present: gifts; past tense: gifted; past participle: gifted; gerund or present participle: gifting
1. give (something) as a gift, esp. formally or as a donation or bequest.

It runs in conjunction with the “rare” drops we are guaranteed when doing certain meta events. Or the bloodstone dust that my mesmer is convinced is exceedingly hard to come by.

So how many characters do you have?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

I have five. The fifth slot has been a revolving door for some time.

The four mainstays are 80s:
Asuran Engineer, Cheeze Toastie (first character ever created, rubbish at playing it but can never delete it. She even has her own song :/)
Sylvari Ranger, Penrhyndeudraeth (known as Penhydrant by my husband)
Sylvari Warrior, Talysarn
Sylvari Mesmer, Geirionydd (this one may be my main, certainly is this month).

The fifth slot is currently occupied by a Sylvari Elementalist, Elidir Fawr. He is not lvl 80.

Sylvari names are chosen by looking at a map of North Wales and hoping for the best. It usually means no one else has them.

I’ve previously had a lvl 80 Sylvari Thief and lvl 80 Human Elementalist, and myriad other lower level mistakes, but I deleted them to make new chars.
I have chucked odd bits of cash for gems for transmutes and hair changes, but have never wanted another character slot. If I end up enjoying the elementalist this time around, I may have to look into that!

Ectoplasm salvaging... on the decline?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Happy to be corrected on this, and certainly haven’t read anything about it, but does account-based MF have any bearing on salvage as well (and not just the quality of loot which would possibly give an explanation for less shiny stuff being dropped)?

No effect whatsoever. MF only affects a narrow part of the overall loot system, giving better chances for rarer drops from enemies. It doesn’t affect items that contain other items, such as opening chests or salvage results.

Except for extremely rare bugs (as in “it happened once but people refer to it every time they get two ectos out of five rares”) these kinds of complaints are just trolling, or people overreacting to a bit of bad luck.

Anet devs themselves can perform millions of salvages, and/or examine the data from millions of salvages by players if there is any concern about a bug. But first someone needs to offer real evidence that there is a problem, not feelings.

Thanks for replying! I’m removing the tin foil hat and shall now exit, pursued by a bear!

The Super Teq should be made into a 70 player instance. If the players can gather 70 players to do it then they can all join that instance.

The regular Teq should return to the world map for the not-so-organized players to kill.

Somewhat agreed. I think this snafu is the result of putting raid content in the middle of something that isn’t raid content. Various players expecting everyone to be on the same page and then shouting about it when they’re not, even after a few months, is not what brings people together and will not make for a good community. It’s the equivalent of banging heads on brick walls, and no player should be held to account for what is a basic error in judgement on ANet’s behalf.

It might have been mindless, but prior to being re-imagined, people at least did it, had fun and were unlikely to be cast adrift into overflows. They should have stuck the new design in a raid instance, calling it the best of both, and everyone would (hopefully) be happy. I would call debate on the number required for the instance, however.

EDIT: I should say, I’ve managed to do this once, purely by luck and/or by accident. There was a good level-headed chap in charge, got us all sorted (even when he was convinced it was not to be), and pulled us all through. It was actually quite a simple task once he took effective control of the situation. For a proper raid instance , the encounter could even be souped-up a little more, and with suitable rewards.

I have no numbers (I’m marginally dyscalculic anyway, so I’d never trust numbers from me), just personal bias, but it really feels like the rates have dropped. I’ve been using the mystic salvage kits, so same as master kits. Or it could be this: rewards aren’t quite as dapper as they used to be – for example, I’m more used to seeing lvl 77-78-79 rares in drops for lvl 80 char in a lvl 80 zone on a lvl 80 event. I salvage pretty much everything for its base parts, and have for a long time now, and lower level stuff seems less likely to give shiny things like ectos, but it can still happen.

I do concur there is an element of RNG involved (spits), but it seems a lot more random these days. Which leads me to this next bit:

Happy to be corrected on this, and certainly haven’t read anything about it, but does account-based MF have any bearing on salvage as well (and not just the quality of loot which would possibly give an explanation for less shiny stuff being dropped)?

So Wrong with World Completion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

Again no one is getting the point…point is the moment I go for a poi or something in wvw I will just get stomped so whats the use…there is no reason to do it if all it is is a free for all cause it will be like having a hundred risen in a small area where a skill point is and your trying to get the skill point and keep dying…If you have to rely on others to get it for you then you won’t get it at all cause they won’t stop and let you get it or help cause thats just how gamers are. They do what they want and use others for bait and such. I have been in PvPs before I stepped in wvw before it was nothing more then a nightmare. 5 minutes and I was finished I could not stay on my feet for 5 minutes every few minutes someones big zerg group took me out so why even try like others say…find my own zerg? Why so they can treat me like the outcast cause I am not in there lil cliq.
I have said what I came to say some agree that they WvW should not be apart of map completion some do not so be it. Not one of you can force me to go in there and do it if I did it would be to prove that 99.9% of the time in there would be me dead.

Oi, oi. Throughout this thread, I have a feeling you’re being deliberately obtuse.

If, on the other hand, you’re really not getting what is being said, here’s my own experience of world completion:

Despite being a genuinely nice person who on occasion tries to get on with others for the greater good, I’m still one of the most anti-social people I know (and being anti-social, I don’t know that many). My first character was (and still is) an engineer. A poorly-built, poorly-played engineer, who didn’t do combos except by accident and spent gold on all the “wrong” gear. I have medical conditions, which if someone wished to delve into my post history, are elaborated on when it comes to discussing some “difficult” content. Add in a resulting fear of failure and the traditional problem of other people being perpetual kitten s with a splash of knowledge that the stupid comes in groups, big groups that are often zerg-flavoured, and huge amounts of anxiety of killing other players, where my heart is literally thumping out of my chest…

…I still have 100% world completion on that kitten -poor engineer.

It took time and patience. Talking to a few of my then guild-mates for advice (I’m now a 100% solo player in a guild of one). It also took swapping server, back when it was allowed for free. It took swallowing my pride (yes, pride. The anti-social ’fraidy cat has far too much of it) and misgivings and getting stuck in. It also took acknowledging how that part of the game is constructed, changing my ways and going with it. If a point is contested, or overrun with enemy players, then you should learn some patience, and back off for another day.

If you are not prepared to adapt, then no, you’ll never get completion. If, however, you’re prepared to suck it up, accept that you will fail and ensure you learn from that failure, then you will achieve. There’s really no kind way to say this, but don’t blame others for what is essentially your problem.

I’m now slowly doing my own world completion again, on two different characters. For my mesmer, it was taking longer because of the toxic alliance living world bobbins sitting on the skill points more than players (I think that’s probably gone now, so I’ll resume going about my business in WvW). For my ranger, I play with a longbow and a bear so the zerg hated me (even when I did produce the sword and warhorn! Still hated), but getting around the world solo was kinda okay. I’m still not a particularly effective player, but having played all classes to an extent (except guardian. Don’t know why, but me and guardian do not mix, and I have so tried), I’ve made an effort to learn enough to get by.

It is possible. You just have to want it enough. Question: Do you want it enough?

Am i the only one that hasn't finished PS?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ceridwen.6703

My first character did it to the end (I wanted it to get rid of the annoying nagtext up in the corner*). I’ve had a few alts who also made it into Orr in the PS before their untimely demise at my hand. I have two other level 80s right now, one of whom is “Arah-ready”, and another who stopped before Claw Island because I couldn’t do it to Tybalt again.

I’m currently levelling a character and doing the PS, simply because I still haven’t seen every option yet. As a solo player, it provides me with a change of pace every now and again. I save up a few installments, then run them until the level-appropriate stuff hits and I go and do something else for a bit. I don’t even hate Trahearne anymore (suspect this is because I chiefly play sylvari), so that’s nice. I’ll go with it as far as I can be bothered, but I probably won’t do Arah story mode again. I can only envisage it happening if I do happen to fall in with the right people. This is quite unlikely, however, as I am shy and should really be playing Skyrim.

*Tip to devs: would love the option to disable all nag text and enable when required. That’d be nice.

Out of all the things that were not explained, one of them is the one that bothers me more than any other: Where is Trahearne?
I’m not asking “where he npc is”. I am asking “where in the Living Story is him”. Many things happened, things that he should be worried about, if not as the Pact’s leader then as a Sylvari Firstborn or as the guy that knows more about Orr than everyone else (Teq shows up stronger? Not his problem, it seems). However, he said nothing to his best friend and commander. Not even a letter!
Come on! He contact me to talk about every single step on the PS. Now, he simply vanished.

Well, we’d have a collection of posts discussing hate for that character just at the mention of his inclusion. You know the sort I’m referring to. This would be a revisit to threads of old, but he as a character should have input, I agree. Plus, given the amount of feedback Anet has received regarding Trahearne, one would suppose they could actually take that on board and write good, strong stuff for him (and ask for a somewhat more passionate delivery in his lines. Or a new VA). Anything but this Scarlet kitten.

Observing players in the tower

in The Nightmare Within

The problem is the game doesn’t teach the players these things. Unless you go to PvP or WvW or (later on in your levels) do dungeons, there is absolutely NOTHING that shows you how to use the game mechanics or how to do anything in the game. The personal story doesn’t even tell you anything, and its the first "quests" players take.

I wouldn’t call the majority of players dumb, it’s more an issue of being ignorant.

I’m sorry but if you get to lvl 80 and haven’t figured out 90% of the kitten OP is talking about, "cognitively limited" is the best I can say about you.

How big a tutorial do you need for "dodge red circle that kills you!" ? If you need to hit a mine more than once to figure out "go in range, circle pops up, 2-3 seconds and you go boom" you’re not exactly bright.

In 80 levels you never had an hint that, maybe, dodging high damage moves is a good idea? You’ve _never_ learned how rallying works? You’ve _never_ had or witnessed a rally in PvE? I’m, therefore, assuming you’ve never done PvP or WvW at all, nor have you ever even gone through Heart of the Mists, since the first time you go there you’re treated to a mini-tutorial.

I never expect the average player to be as "good" at gaming stuff as I am. I realize that even though I’m hardly the best I do spend more time doing this than many other people... But good heavens, I’m not asking you to do a rocket jump railgun headshot or anything like that. I’m not asking for a sako-combo, or a godkitten perfect score.... Just be barely competent. It’s not that most players aren’t amazing, it’s that they’re kittening horrible.... They can’t figure kitten like "RED CIRCLES ARE BAD MHHKAY?!" out for months. How?

It baffles me that this has been out for days, and even on levels 2 and 3 (i.e.: not people that just walked into the tower for the first time) I see people continuously running into the mushroom-mines like lemmings. I saw people continuously dying to the first 3 bosses of the Queen’s Gauntlet! I see people dying to kittening *VETERANS* their level, one on one!

Good heavens, how do some people manage to not kill themselves on a daily basis?

Ah, you’re not sorry at all. :P

Maybe a fair whack of people running the tower aren’t technically level 80 with a year or more experience behind them. They might not have those cognitive abilities at your level. Indeed, they might be without other skills you take for granted and not just in the game, either - I, for example, have photo-sensitive epilepsy, depth perception issues, plus a touch of arthritis in the hands, and believe me when I say as much as I rock, I can lose the epicness in the next moment with little warning.

There are a stack of other reasons, some mentioned in the thread, some not. If you can think of something (however much it baffles you), then it’s a reason why another player isn’t doing so well (it’s sort of like rule 34*). Your next choice, of course, is if you actually want to be proactive in finding out from the horse’s mouth - not that that’s entirely practical, of course, but it’s a new tower challenge for those who excel. You don’t get any achievements, however, but perhaps a warm glowy feeling you didn’t realise you were missing until saving the horse from being glue.

Of course, there could always be this:

They may also have inadvertently turned their red circles off. Which would be problematic when being told to dodge out of the red stuff.

* Which reminds me of the lemmings you spoke of. Perhaps someone is taking video of the proceedings and having fun in a masochistic way. Yes, it could be intentional stupid death ftw that day.

I vote yes to a statue!

I’m on my third OoW runthrough, and I’m now digging my heels in – no more personal story until there’s something to remember the old grizzlepuss by! I’ve never wanted to give pixels a hug before, but Tybalt is where I make an exception.

Feedback regarding the music [merged]

The music from the trailer just horrible. It reminds me a music from Dendy then strange metal theme. Not fits to the trailer at all.
Completely dissapointment.

Music is a soul of the game. Music directly operates with people emotions.
Please be careful!
Bad music = bad game.
Anet please hire back musicans who made main GW2 theme.
Also Last good theme was in “Bazaar of four winds”.
Personnaly I suggest to hire Matt Uelmen. Don’t think that this is a joke. His music was a soul of Diablo1-2/Wow Classic/BC.
Alternatively (more cheap solution) ask your players about music contest, they will love to create a lot of nice melodies for free to you.

The chap wot does GW2 is Jeremy Soule. He is a god amongst game composers, second only to Nobuo Uematsu (of Final Fantasy fame).

Incidentally, Soule also composed music for the original Guild Wars, TESIII-V (that’s Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim), Neverwinter Nights, Icewind Dale, Dungeon Siege, and many, many others. He’s considered akin to John Williams (Star Wars, Jaws, ET, Jurassic Park… and countless others), and is currently ranked highly by modern classical music fans (thanks to the UK’s Classic FM Hall of Fame votes, he reached No. 5 with the TES series, competing with the likes of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart – only Rachmaninov, Vaughn Williams and Uetmatsu are ahead of him).

They really don’t come a whole lot more recommended.

Uelman’s alright, though. His work with Diablo was great indeed.

I don’t hate metal, however the trailer music could’ve been better if arranged to suit the existing game music style (yes! even with guitars). The current result is as jarring as if we suddenly came upon the works of Jackson Pollock informing the design of Divinity’s Reach.

Unless, of course, that is entirely the point.

This is an amazing guide for people who need help getting started with mesmer. Should have gotten more attention, but I guess good threads are all hidden away.

I totally agree! I completely recommend this guide for people new to either the game or the profession. I don’t think I would have stuck with it if I hadn’t found this – I’ve even passed the link on to a friend considering playing a mesmer!

Thanks for the guide. It’s been a wonderful bit of assistance.

Guild Wars 2 Geared for Older Audience?

This reminds me of the time I decided I wanted a new guild, and shopped around, found one, and joined. Then I realised I could have given birth to the kid “showing” me the ropes (I was being polite and letting him). This wouldn’t be a problem, but when I realised the other members were all around similar ages, I decided to move on. It’s not an issue to have some kids knocking about, but I don’t want to be the only old (ha!) git on the scene. It’s lonely!

This puts me in mind of an idea I was toying with: The Old Gits’ Guild. The only requirement is being over 30. The ability to reminisce over the stuff you watched on TV as a child any time pre-90s is a bonus. We can all chat about being put out to pasture after 30, and how if it was Logan’s Run, we’d all be dead. Hurrah!

Disappointed that F&F ends w/ a dungeon

in Flame and Frost

Ceridwen.6703

As for medical conditions, it’s unfortunate. If everything was catered to a super-forgiving state, the “hardcore” crowd would throw a hissy, and a lot of the player base would whine and complain about how easy everything is (which a good portion of the vocal side of the forums do already). The best thing for that is to have an understandable team to play with (again, any MMO is only worth playing if you have friends that play IMO), and a bit of patience when it comes to your capabilities (ie. Don’t get frustrated about deaths). As far as something like epilepsy issues, I honestly can’t even imagine what its like, so

As to the difficulty of this dungeon, took about an hour with a PUG for me, with one of our members being a level 44 and two having it be their first dungeon ever (and they actually probably did better than living than me till I finally got my groove on during the second half). Graphic/internet lag will probably be the end of a lot of people as far as jumping over the shockwaves I imagine, but I felt the overall “coolness” of the dungeon was top notch, and the final boss fight made me relive my Dark Souls days beatin up on Orns and Smough.

As someone with photosensitive epilepsy and a major shyness of PuGs and dungeons as a result, I have actually managed to do this dungeon, and found the boss twins an absolute nightmare.

One guy in the PuG had already made at least one run, the rest, I have no idea. So this chap tells us it’s important to evade, which in hindsight, was a bit of an understatement. Stuff is happening everywhere on the screen and my brain literally almost short circuits (this is pretty much how I’d describe a seizure if anyone’s interested. I was in no danger of this happening, but the condition does make light shows confusing to say the least). Said chap was a bit cross when the group wiped several times, which isn’t overly helpful (but he was seemingly the sort intent on running ahead for even the smaller encounters, and not gathering party before venturing forth, so perhaps not really a people person).
Each time, however, I think we did better at those bosses, despite wiping and the attitude from the one player.

Still, us people with conditions have those extra considerations to take into account before jumping into a PuG – simply put, dungeons are a lot to contend with, and you have much more responsibility to your team mates. I’m not always sure I can bring that – particularly with people I don’t know (and don’t what to have to spend so much time explaining how my brain’s broken and what it means in terms of dungeon play). Some people aren’t particularly understanding or caring even so. And that’s their prerogative, but if I have to PuG with them so I can see the end of something that has been personal to that point, then that’s landing on this side of crap. I mean, I’ve never run a fractal for that reason, but seeing as there’s nothing I’ve done leading directly to it, it’s not the end of the world.

But don’t get me entirely wrong. I’ve had some PuGs with some decent players, who appeared to have a sense of fun, team playing, and generally keeping their kitten together. It’s because I know there’s people out there like that I’ll continue, off and on, to try dungeons.

For now, I have my flamey gauntlets of goodness, and I never have to do another molten facility again (I hope, and this could lead us on to another issue, really). What would I like to see in future similar events instead? Two conclusions: one hardcore kitten dungeon, and one fluffy kitten dungeon, the former needs a (PuG) party, the latter does not (but can accommodate, much in the way the personal story did, until Arah). Yes, two dungeons for the price of one, not mutually-exclusive, but with the same end result of achievement and resolution in living story. Now, that would be something of a step in the right direction.

Bad, bad idea. Then the Orr temples will all go back to being continually contested. You need to make events rewarding or people just won’t go unfortunately.

Perhaps a little from column A and a little from Column B.

I’d agree the Orr temples are in need of looking at (not least the chains need to be bolstered and less likely to break). They are hard, they can be very long, and they can be easy to screw up. It stands to reason they should be, and that the reward for success should be great.

However, Orr is a completely different cookie to the rest of the world. It needs to be handled as such.

Actually I managed my playtime around dragon events BEFORE the change. After the change it’s a bit less fun because I find myself with times when I’m getting bored of exploring and have no good reason to run events I’ve already run that day.

So, yay better loot but boo less fun I guess?

This sums it up for me, too.

The dumb thing is, I actually was beginning to suspect the loot gods were against me (despite the fact I enjoyed the will-they-or-won’t-they gamble). It was a bizarre fun for me, to be on dragon rotation (plus the Maw, because I always found that fun), just for the odd chance of getting a rare – and I certainly did alright out of it, because I’m not sniffing at the greens and blues I mostly ended up with, simply because they pay the bills, so to speak. Waiting around for the events was fun, as there seemed to be a happy campers mentality. It wasn’t in the least bit stressful, which is nice when one does actually have real life stress. I suppose you could look upon it with a glass half full, and enjoy the experience rather the reward. Well, I did, anyway.

Then the Patch occurred (and yes, I feel it should be a proper noun). Now every time I do the event, I’m almost virtually guaranteed a rare. Sounds promising, I thought, but if this is the case, perhaps the word “rare” is taking on a new meaning, which is actually the opposite of its original meaning. Maybe the loot should be seen as green items, and I ponder this only because I suspect the economy may crash due to the reduced worth of the “rare” – that in itself will eventually solve all problems. And then we will certainly know the price of everything, but the value of nothing, whilst having a little gamer rage stress on the side in the event of lag (many, many puns quite intended). I’m happy to be wrong, of course.

I think anyone who wanted to make cash had myriad other ways of doing it before The Patch. I’m not sure why anyone would do dragons (or other large events) to make money – if not for loot, the events can then retain their purpose (lorewise) – because even if events are on timers, there are still chances for missing events as the spawn inside is more or less random, and if the Pact is camping out, we could arguably be doing the same in readiness based on their opinion that something bad could go down soon. Look upon it as a compromise between real life and the game.

I certainly don’t think guesting is the issue. I suggest such an accusation is lowest common denominator thinking, and not in the mathematical sense.

In the meantime, we just have to lag it out, and honestly, sometimes I don’t even know where or what I’m shooting at (but that actually amuses me. Doesn’t make it right, though!).

I’m sorry for my ramble, but I sort of get the impression that posting this in any of the associate threads works. To sum up, though: chests will get nerfed was the title of the thread. I wonder if that hasn’t already happened (albeit in a sick, somewhat masochistical manner).

I’m already a member of a small and friendly guild, however it’s a little casual, and rare to be able to pull together for a dungeon or any WvW. Therefore I’m looking to join a guild on Seafarer’s Rest in order to further my game experience (and make new friends!).

I have one level 80 Engineer (Cheeze Toastie), kitted in exotics and playing around with a rifle and grenades, and it would love to run some dungeons (it’s only ever done one, and it was convinced it was lost at the time), preferably with some experienced and nice people with a Pythonesque sense of humour, who can be patient with the Toastie when it goes into grenade berserker mode. The Toastie is also happy to receive advice on how to make it more efficient, particularly when it comes to tickling dragons under the chin.

I also have some lower-level characters I occasionally bring out if in any way necessary (guardian, elementalist and thief), but the engineer is typically where it’s at for me.

Lastly, I ‘m happy to do Teamspeak and so on (have been using Dolby Axon, but YMMV), and I’d rather not swap server if at all possible.
