Uh-huh.
Indeed.
We should all now have /fifteen Uh-huhs.
Humour as a defense mechanism is how I saw it. Or at least an attempt at it. I’m not particularly offended, and I even grinned at Braham and Taimi’s interactions.
Having dealt with tragedy and death for years in one of my lines of work, some words from my other line of work seems always appropriate in these situations:
"And if I laugh at any mortal thing, ’Tis that I may not weep” - Don Juan
Canto IV - ByronJust my two coppers worth,
I think this makes the most sense. Just because they laugh does not make someone without morality. It does not make a person insensitive. The use of humour, in such situations, is as an invisible armour, so it’s possible to keep fighting, helping, defending, whatever is needed to be done. The characters may even be a touch demob happy. If they didn’t let off steam in this manner, that would be a whole heap worse. If you’re not sure what I mean, a watch of either M*A*S*H the film or a few episodes of the TV series would help clear it up.
That said, although the awkward silences between the conversations were probably due to the code firing in whatever way it fires plus something technical about servers, those silences were the space between the notes to me. That’s where all the conflicting emotions, thoughts, and real feelings lie - the horror at what unfurled, the reflection upon the numerous dead, missing, torn apart lives. For those that may have had a smoother service, however, those silences may not have occurred, and if you had quick-fire lines coming then yeah. It probably does seem a tad much.
I didn’t particularly like how my character answered the question of how it felt to top the crazed cabbage, but until the day we get to type in our own responses (or even speak them! ), then we have to make do with lines being supplied for us, even if they don’t suit the characters as we hold them in our imaginations. I think I would’ve preferred they’d gone along the old Charisma/Dignity/ThumpyFist route, plus a definitive nod to the fallen, but I’m not going to worry about it. If anything, my character would bow his head in silence and resolve to try and prevent something like this ever happening again (not that I RP beyond what goes on in my head, but if I did, that’s where he’d go with it). Then he’d demand counselling. Come on, where’s the NPC shrink? And the cake?!
... Yay! Dinky Casio FTW! That takes me back to childhood (admittedly I did prefer Yamaha at the time). Thanks!
To be fair, the Titanic was pretty awesome for temporary content.
"Icebrood! Dead ahead!"
(apologies; I’ve always wanted to get this one in somewhere.)
You know it’s bad when even a charr is crying non-stop. I felt so sorry for this one.
I wish there was a hug emote.
Yay, she made omnomberry cookies! I’d love t o see the recipe!
It’s not particularly innovative, but this is the (longish) recipe:
- 3/4 cup (1.5 sticks to 170g) unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 3/4 cup (150g) dark brown sugar
- 1/4 cup (50g) granulated sugar
- 1 large egg, at room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch (aka cornflour)
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste, I tend to think 1/2 is a bit much)
- 3/4 cup (135g) white chocolate chips
- 1/4 cup (50g) dried cranberries
- 1/4 cup (50g) dried cherries
- 1/4 cup (50g) dried blueberries (I tend to eyeball my fruits)
Beat the butter for 1 minute on medium speed until completely smooth and creamy. Add the brown sugar and granulated sugar and mix on medium speed until fluffy and light in color. Mix in egg and vanilla. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl as needed.
In a separate bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, baking soda and salt. On low speed, slowly mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until combined. The cookie dough will be thick (pry it off the mixer thick). Add the white chocolate chips and dried fruits and mix until evenly distributed.
Heat your oven to 350F and roll dough into 1 tablespoon balls (ish). Bake for 8-9 or until barely golden brown around the edges. The cookies will look very soft when you remove them and probably puffy. You can flatten them with a spoon, but they’ll deflate as they cool, too. Leave them on the cookie tray for ~5 minutes, then put them on a rack to cool the rest of the way.
Oh, that is me so sorted for this weekend. Cheers for sharing the recipe!
It’s a trap! A trick to lure me away from these forums to stare at toon man parts for hours! I see what you did there! I do! (and I heartily thank you for it )
If anything, it will be more accurate to the Spartans from 300, and everyone loves that movie! Actually... if we had the exact same armor as the 300 Spartans from the movie (but the broom-helm would be a must, and that awesome crimson cape) I would totally wear that.
I used to play Age of Conan. I made a chap who looked like that, and not completely out of place in that setting (the armours there were, for the most part, about equal in what they reveal, plus we had the actual armour tab and then a vanity tab so we could look different, which was a great touch).
I’ve tried to make a chap in GW2 that suits what I want to stare at when I’m playing, but it’s not really achievable (although it’s fun from behind). It would be nice if it were possible. I should say, I don’t need the full 300, I just want a lower rise trouser style- the belt should just be optional. Also the sleeves and lowered feathered section on the feathered light armour to be optional.
My mesemer, Tik Tak Tot
…oh, oh my… It’s just too adorable!!
Okay, you guys can have my twig mesmer to look at. Again!
Second is a bonus of the human necro I made. It’s not necessarily the finished article, but it’s going to be a few weeks before he can go for cosmetic surgery.
But that is the thing- I call myself casual because I do not research builds for hours, have Ascended gear or do Dungeons much at all- to me that is a casual player.
I do however have a mind- and I use it to the best of my ability.
I do my best and I learn from my mistakes.
I am by no means a good playerWhat I see though is players not even bothering on reading the description on their skill bar- that is lazy.
There is no other word for it.In big fights you at least have to have some situational awareness, read map chat and pay attention to what is happening around you.
Thing is people don’t and they don’t care and I don’t think Anet can really force them because they will say- play how I want or leave
Agreed on all points except that I have awful situational awareness if particles are involved. It’s been super hard for me to get through some of the fights, but I’m happy to do it, and I know I’m improving, and learning. Which is good, because I can’t do more than a few of them in a session and then I really should be done for a while. Hubby says I’d probably enjoy raid content if I got the nerve to ever do it, and I concur. Except for the particles, natch.
That “play how you want” keep coming back to haunt us! Technically, however, we all can still play how we want. It’s just we have to realise that in doing so, not all available content is for us (this is a meme now, isn’t it!).
I don’t really care about all the exact stats. If I can do the content I am fine, it’s just not something I care much about. *And food, I almost never used ’foods’ in any game. I have always seen it as a form of cheating*.
*scratches head*
That there is a new one.
.. No, I don’t get it either. Unless there’s a diet involved and you can only have food on cheat day. Let’s face it, GW2 is a dieting nightmare: we have chocolate cake, white chocolate cake, chocolate covered fruit, strawberry shortcake, cookies, ice cream, pies... oh, gods. I love this game if only for the chef crafting recipes alone.
EDIT: Have read Devata’s post with explanation, and... each to their own, I suppose.
Ceri, you’re awesome.
Me and Sara just lub you. See? She’s just sending you lots of lub!
I try to give credit where credit is due. The citizen rescues, loved it. LOVED meeting new people and running off to help others, but hated the afk leechers.
I think recent issues with the ignoring of bugs has just pinged on my last patience nerve, and baaaaad ticket responses. One or two, I can might deal with, go beyond that and I’m not in a good place.
Much, much credit to people like you Ceri, and you, Vyko for the smiles in the gloom. I can’t always join you, but I can stand back and appreciate it.
.. I’m not really that awesome! I’ve had rage with games before, pointless though it is, so I understand where a lot of people are coming from. If I was awesome I’d get back on those maps and do all the events over and over just helping everyone else achieve their goals. I just wish I actually could do that. I cheer on anyone who does - they’re the real awesome people. I ran with a couple of commanders last week who did just that. I’m thankful for those who give up their time in this manner just to help out their server and others.
That aside, this being a forum where we can air our grievances to an extent, it’s just natural there’s going to be a lot of negativity. It possibly colours how the game appears to a lot of people, because there’s so many posts stemming from unhappiness. And it’s very, very easy to sink into being negative when just a few posts are already expressing themselves in that manner. And we have all ages and nationalities popping in; some things may appear one way without that actually being the intention. Imagine being one of the people that actually has to sit and read all of it. .. Oof!
Just remember it’s possible to enjoy something as a whole, whilst being critical of some of its parts. And that we can choose how affected we are by something. That is the thing you have control over (unlike getting things working in a game!).
I had a rage post about the broken content a few days back, although I got over it by swiftly taking a short break for the game (eh, I went to bed and got some sleep ).
When you take part in events, get jack for it, then it gets fixed, and something else doesn’t work... it’s like a comedy of errors, and it must really suck to be a dev trying to fix this, and players still encountering difficulties are not finding it amusing in any measure.
I’m frankly amazed I achieved the meta, and never set foot into a hologram fight (thank you again, dailies). I don’t like missing content like the hologram, but I’ll live with it. Literally. :P
I still run this build. It works well for standard PvE and events. I still have a ball with it! Have never taken it to a dungeon or fractal, however, as I don’t play those.
<snip!> Mesmers to me are about trickery, elegance, and showmanship. <snip!>… but I just always looked at them in the same way I would look at a jester/harlequin type character. They cover the battlefield with dancing illusions, then when the time is right, shatter them all at once at once to create a marvelous crescendo.
Which, when I play this on my male mesmer, is so, so very schmexy.
... It’s referencing the butterfly effect (chaos theory), as we deal out chaos magic. Nothing gendered about it. It’s awesome whoever does it and whatever colour it is.
I always see them as purple, not pink, as well, but I suppose it depends where your monitor is adjusted to.
Also, laser beams. The greatsword is shooting out laserbeams of death. It’s a Tyrian lightsabre, and it’s epic! Embrace it!

Battle for Lion's Arch Open Issues and Tips

Just took part on an overflow via Desolation (I guested!), and the green and red knights went down, but the blue reset its health. Players were split up amongst the knights. Red and green received shinies, blue (and only blue) received nothing, not even for taking part (did get the daily update, though, so that’s something).

I just took part in a sterling attempt on a Blacktide overflow (I guested over), where all three knights were taken down, and I know I did damage in all three (but probably most in blue). Not a bean for any of it. I really would like to try and get that ascended back piece, and have lots of things in place for it already. But I can’t sit for hours and hours and hours to do these events, crammed in to such a short time frame, even if I’d like to -it’s too flashy light-wise, and after just a couple of hours, I physically can’t do anymore. So I suppose I’m just going to have to farm gold instead! Lots of it! Forever!

I’m glad I could see a comment from someone who copes with the condition that didn’t have any triggering issues with the boss fight. Thanks Ceridwen!
Agh! No! Sorry! I have not done the fight at all, as OP made another thread of the same nature in the other LW forum. I read that and decided not to do it, given some of the other aspects of the game have bugged me a bit! Sorry for any misunderstanding!

Epilepsy Warning For Scarlet Hologram Fight
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Ceridwen.6703
A couple of the Orr cathedral fights are bad that way too. To be honest, I can’t imagine an epileptic being able to play this game.
Yet it’s possible! And for the most part, I quite enjoy it.
An eye patch achieves the same level of darkness and is actually pretty darn cheap.
If the one eye things works for someone, that’s something they can consider!
I suggested playing with eyes (or one eye) closed: it was a real suggestion. One I hate to suggest, but one that has served me well.
I wish Anet would do something about flashing lights, I’ve been mentioning some issues since beta but they don’t change them. Things such as an enemy flashing each time you hit them, or skill effects that take the whole screen.
It was also an issue in Gw1 (for me). In Gw1 I really wanted to play PvP, but since I had to play with my eyes (or one eye) closed, I didn’t want my team to lose because of me. So it was 3 or 4 years before I started playing PvP!Well, when I say eyes closed, what I really do is turn my head to the left until I don’t see the screen anymore. Yeah, my neck hurts sometimes!
I really do wish Anet would be more careful with flashing lights, but until they do, all we can do is offer suggestions on how to deal.
Edited by Moderator
For me, the one eye thing requires a full cover of one eye (if caught short, usually my hand, which isn’t so great for gaming). An uncovered closed eye does nothing, because the eye lid does not create total blackness. Turning away doesn’t really do it either – I tend to need full pitch darkness to counter it.
But it has been known to work for others and it’s certainly advice I’ve received from doctors before, even if for me it’s not necessarily enough. We know what works for us as individuals, though, right? No harm in mentioning it at all.
(edited by Moderator)
And keep big cats off desks and laps so ya don’t have to bob and weave to see your screen like I constantly have to do!
/hugs for Ceri and her darling kitty
Awww, cheers m’dears.
Oh, and point to note? Any one can have seizures playing a game, not just those who are diagnosed. Keep your workstations healthy, people, and ensure you take regular breaks!
Hello! Friendly neighbourhood photosensitive epileptic here (although there could be more of us). *waves*
Cheers for the heads up, OP. I was considering giving this part of the update a run through today (did the story last night), but will give it a miss. I’ll get my achievements elsewhere.
And believe it or not, yes! Us PSE types can play games. And as Aedelric says, modern flat screen monitors have helped with this (the old school type was death on a desk, same for TVs). But it is why I have bother sometimes noticing when things are occuring in fights, such as at the notorious Temple of Dwayna, and why bouncing camera angles aren’t always so fun (think jumping puzzles). The marionette was also a bucketful of laughs.
You know what’s worse? Sunlight. I kid you not. Now that’s had me in bother more than a computer (admittedly the computer related incident was more infamous).
EDIT! I don’t expect explicit consideration in game design, btw! I quite accept there’s some things I’ll never do or see, and I’ll read about it instead (when they banned me from computer use years ago in school, I learned about spreadsheets from the manual. Never actually made one, though). I’m okay with that. What I do appreciate more is something like this thread appearing, just to say there may be an issue. I can take it from there.

Bless, Braham’s kitten ed if he does and kitten ed if doesn’t!
If he’d let the cabbage have the traditional villain’s exposition speech, there’d be a bucketload of grr! argh!* poured on his head.
In the event of not allowing for the traditional villain’s exposition speech, there’s a bucketload of grr! argh! poured on his head.
* this is the technical term, you realise.
What I don’t understand is, why the dragons go through the cycle of absorbing and releasing magic in the first place? It seems like a pointless endeavor destroying the world only to let it breathe again eventually. What force hates Tyria so much that they planted the dragons to create this artificial torture chamber?
My guess is it’s just part of the circle of life… or the circle of death, destruction, and renewal, whatever is preferred.
+1 for Krakenstein, btw. I vote for that being the DSD’s new name.

I honestly don’t undersatnd some of you lot.
You complained months before something int he lines of “if this doesn’t end up in Elder Dragon we’ll gather torches and pitch forks and kill Anet staff” – type of hate.
Now that you finally got your wish, you still complain? What did you expect? If this didn?t end up in a dragon awakening would you also kitten about it?
Somebody explain this to me please.
I know.
Thing is, this has to be all things to everyone, and I just don’t think that’s possible. And because we can, we’re going to talk about it. There will be complaints and unhappiness from unimpressed, disinterested and uninterested people – even when and if they do get what they’ve asked for. It’s just par for the course. It’s useful for Anet to get their feedback for the most part, as well.
On the flipside, there will be people who are quite happy, and maybe they don’t talk about it as much, but there again, that’s how this whole thread started.
We’re all made up of different experiences and expectations which influence our likes and dislikes. Add in it’s always possible to enjoy something whilst taking issue with some of its parts (I usually fall into this category regarding the game), and I hope I’ve helped answer a little. Unless you were being rhetorical, in which case, I am fail.

There’s one more in this arc – an epilogue in two weeks. Given what we’re going to be up against whenever a new arc kicks off, I don’t think we’ll have all the answers yet, but hopefully enough for some loose ends to be tied.

So excited with the Kas & Jory story. I’ve had that last scene of them as my desktop background for a while now, ever since I screencapped it on my first play through on Dev servers. swoon
And that battle is awesome!
What got me was the look on Kasmeer’s face when she thought Marjory was dead. Those eyes! If I’d been alone in the house I might actually have howled! Great job on the face animations, really great job.

Just in an attempt to help, you can actually skip some of the events if just doing the story finale is your thing. There is a teleporter thingy that allows it, though… I am unsure if it has a prerequisite or if you just have to find it. (As I’d done some stuff first)
You have to have at least the exotic version of the spinal blades backpiece equipped.
EDIT! Apparently this may not be correct as indicated further down the page. Apologies for any confusion!

kitten, Anet! I sniffled a bit, grinned in a stupid happy manner at Kasmeer & Marjory (yes, it was another SQUEEE! moment for me), and was quite generally quite happy with the demise of the annoying cabbage. Yay! and ding dong the witch is dead, and all that. Unfortunately, in the process, it looks like we broke the world*. Sorry, Tyria! I’m sure we can all make it up to you.
I’ll note now that I have mostly enjoyed this experience. I’m rather looking forward to the next patch for the wrap party.
*Possibly something of an exaggeration. Still, look on the bright side. It looks like dragons again!
To those who think they are cool and they add to the action… these are way more annoying when you’re trying to fight for your life (to escape) and they keep targeting while you’re fighting off the mobs.
And just as annoying at the southern end with the hell gates active spewing out fire while the orbital strikes spam the area WITH molten effigies rampaging.I am not exaggerating.
Hee, that’s happened to me a fair few times.
To my engineer’s lasting annoyance, they also target healing turrets.
That… could actually be useful to one of my engineers. Toss out a turret, and while it’s getting blasted I can revive someone.
Yeah, I’ve been using my mesmer clones in and around this.
I think the lasers are cool. It’s the actual noise they make, and knowing doom (or at least, a mildly irritating hindrance when one repeatedly targets the one citizen I’m trying to save) is upon me. It’s like the noise the War of the Worlds tripods make (Spielberg version - this contains four minutes or so of the "intersection scene" from that film, so don’t watch if that bugs you!).
The whole feel of Escape from LA has had this WotW vibe for me, although I’m a nut for it since childhood anyway. I’ve even been listening to the original 1978 musical version whilst running the "dungeon". I’d wibble on all day about it if I could, but I’d take us dangerously off-topic!
Sadly, there has been no more Homes for Quaggans! walks since my last update.
Geirionydd is sulking because I deleted a fellow twig to make way for a human necromancer, of all things. Despite my assurance he is still number one, the miserable mesmer is now refusing to co-operate.
He still wants Homes for Quaggans!, and depending on what occurs next with Lion’s Arch, he may yet do more walks, which would be announced in a suitable fashion. For now, however, the cake was indeed a lie, and the mesmer is narrowing eyes at the necro. Oh, the drama!
Homes for Quaggans!
I’ve never experienced this. The RNG in the game hates me.
My husband uses a Naga to great effect (whenever he’s played in the past, he’s used an elementalist). He’s had the mouse for a few years now. I think if I seriously played my engineer again, I’d definitely be thinking of acquiring one.
It’s not necessary with any other professions bar those two, IMO.

Is this one working for you?
I’ll admit, she did make me laugh at a few of her lines. Other than that...
I’m going to up the cuteness ante.
Behold! A dormouse!
A smidge? Bah! I need there to be an invisible chest armor. Yes, please. That pit fighter armor is ok, but it just needs to be gone completely. Guys need to learn to show a bit more skin too.
Hee! The more the merrier!
Oh, the boundless joy you have! Brilliant.
Loved the video and will be watching more (subscribed!). Cheers for the entertainment and make many more!
The OP is asking for female asura to show more skin.
Does no one else find that mental image a bit… horrifying?
.
I thought that at first, too. But then I wondered if that wasn’t the default page the link goes to – I had asura males, see. There was a bit at the top to change it to females (not that it matters with asura). Then you change it to the different races (which were alphabetical). I take issue with it displaying male first, of course ( ), and immediately asura, but YMMV.
Only applies if you view big things like “Why did these alliances happen?” and “How is it even possible for these alliances to happen?” and “Why don’t the Krait just kill Scarlet?” and “Why is the Aetherblade willing to die for Scarlet?” as minor details and unimportant to the main plot.
Quote directly from your link:
Say they set a level in a supermarket; a real supermarket stocks thousands of individual products in hundreds of different brands, each and every one with different label designs, and the time it would take to design (or license) all that packaging and trademarks could easily add up to several games’ worth of development cycles. So they use a handful of designs over and over. And it works to their favor: We accept less detail because it is not central to the game.
Absolutely! I’m not saying what I think about the matter (I already have, earlier in the thread), just chucking some tropes out there to lighten it up a little.
Although somewhere in the links of the links, there’s probably a little light, because that’s how the TV Tropes site works its insidious little magic.
I predict the closing of this thread in a day or so!
Still, I’ll reiterate my earlier request from a different thread that went south eventually:
Whatever with the lady armour! I want equality! So, I’d like to see some chap armour where the Apollo’s Belt can be seen. No, really. Please! I want a smidge of eye candy too!
