I see. So I should turn off map chat and not get event notifications because some people want to act like children? No, I think that’s probably not right.

And no, carebears don’t rule this forum…carebears rule this game. Proud to be a carebear. If it means that I’m a nice guy, who would rather play cooperatively with people than beat the hell out of them, sure I’ll wear it. Happy to.

The PvE in this game was designed to be cooperative. As for changing things not affecting us, well, it does affect us. Because all those other games have options to turn off PvP and whatnot and they all still suck because design decisions are made around that open world PvP that affect everyone.

And since I don’t need my PvE being affected by open world PvP (there’s already too many PvE changes that have been dictated by PvP), then I’m happy to not have it at all.

Saying something won’t affect other people doesn’t mean it won’t.

My favorite reply in this thread so far. I so agree to this and a proud carebear too.

I concur! Also happily signing up for Care Bear status. How caring, being a kind and generally a good individual wanting to help out others is a bad thing is beyond me.

Alduin vs Zhaitan

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

Alduin would try to eat Zhaitan’s world. However!

Zhaitan would attempt to acquire the souls of the dead in Sovngarde by finding their corpses and in doing so, might be able to learn Dragonrend.

Dragonrend may not work for Zhaitan as it wants, however, what with it being a dragon: would it end up faceplanting itself?

It would have to use the dead Gormlaith and cohorts and give them voice to Dragonrend Alduin. It knows what its minions know, so this might be possible. However, it would have to locate the burial site of said nords, and given that it’s in Tyria, not on holiday in Skyrim, I’m not sure if that would be possible.

Alduin, however, can be anywhere in space and time (right, right?!), so... Mordremoth will entangle Alduin so he can’t fly, Jormag will freeze his bits off, Kralkatorrik will... shoot purple stuff at him (ooh, pretty crystals!!), Steve will be holidaying on a nice desert island and ignoring everyone and finally, Zhaitan will raise Orr a bit higher and drop it on Alduin’s head. Primordus puts on a celebratory barbecue thereafter.

Zhaitan wins!

How do I murder Super Bananas...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ceridwen.6703

I hate the banana! And the other super minis are pretty annoying - the noise goes right through me!

I’d ask for a separate sound channel for the minis, and other items which do not hold a direct gameplay consequence - so things such as Job-o-Tron backpack, the raven mail carrier (just posted on this in a different thread), etc. can be muted without impairing important effects such as combat related noises. How easy this is to implement, however, I don’t know. I imagine there are some more important things to be working on. I’d just like to have this down as akin to a QoL adjustment for future implementation, given there’s been so many threads on the subject already.

So KS is not often used here? I am sorry that I used it assuming it is understandable.

Since KS simply doesn’t exist here, no one uses it, the people that know that therm are the ones that have experience with other MMOs.

I did not play GW1 so I can’t say much. 8v8 or 10v10 in instances or open world?

In GW1, GvG was 8v8 in an instanced area.

It’s been a while since I stepped foot in another game where I had to worry about it, I had to Google KS and it came up with a few pages of Kansas. “Why is there no Kansas in this game?” I thought to myself, before realising I probably hadn’t found the contextual definition yet.

I’m glad there’s no kill stealing, loot stealing, node stealing. I’ve played those games and didn’t enjoy that tedious aspect. It’s a big draw as to why GW2 keeps my attention.

Does Elementalist have anything over warrior?

in Elementalist

Ceridwen.6703

I’m currently levelling a D/D ele, and it does just fine. I prefer it to my warrior (undecided on if I prefer it to my guardian, but I might just) - which was fun to level, but ultimately lacking in style and panache for my tastes. I main a mesmer, though, so I like a bit of showmanship.

The current meta on the ele PvE wise is D/F, so maybe you want to look at that if D/D isn’t working for you. Although I’m too in love with my offhand dagger to contemplate regular focus use myself, I still have a focus (and a staff!) handy in case I run in to anything that doesn’t compute; plus switching out to a conjure weapon in a pinch works too.

At level 17, you can’t be a zerker, but you can wear basic Power stuff, so do. It’s good to get used to it early on where mistakes aren’t the worst. Also, look at Haviz & Zehlyn’s PvE ele guide, where you can see the rotations the D/F ele would do, which you can adapt for the D/D - levelling is a good time to experiment and see what works for you, and the guide is excellent for the information it provides.

If you want the D/D Roamer build instead, it’s here. You might not want to take your ele into WvW just yet, but it’s useful to have a look at where the D/D is currently shining brightest.

The memorial should be something simple, and not name any specific names. A small plaque and three trees.

“In memory of those who died so others may live.”
An apple tree.
A cherry tree.
An oak tree.

This is the right way to do it! Then people who haven’t played the PS through and/or are unaware of the characters will think nothing of the trees, bar perhaps it’s a nice thought; then if they continue and complete the story and come back to the trees, there’ll be at least some acknowledgement of what occurred.

As for the rest of us, we’ll all get something for our favourite mentor(s), so it’s a complete win-win.

Lots of +1s for you, Palador! Can we get this put up as a suggestion, perhaps?

I want my clones to target what I’m targeting, at the time of which I’m targeting it, at the very least. Then my own skill has to come into a little, and the one I just spat out won’t chase after a harmless rabbit a mile away. It would also be nice if the lazy ones (of which I’ve had a few lately) would also actually bother to do something productive, instead of just standing there looking for all the world as if they’re contemplating the universe and their place within it. Their inexplicable inaction has lead to much gnashing of my tootles of late, I can tell you.

Why, jumping puzzles, why...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

Only jumping puzzles that annoy the kitten out of me are the ones that have a time-based component. Vanishing platforms, water sprays, etc… not really my thing. I won’t even get into Griffinrook…

other than that however… more JPs please.

I did Griffinrook once. I came out a shivering, nervous wreck. Nightmarish. Too chicken to go back in that one!

A lot of other JPs have this effect on me, but some of them have become old friends – namely the ones required for map completion. Sometimes I can run them in one, and may even soon be at the stage where I’m no longer so nervous and can offer mesmer portals on these to people who need or want them – except I tend to be even more nervous with an audience and thus more likely to fail! XD

I still get very shaky though, so there’s no free ride from me yet (and I would do portals for free)! However, I completely sympathise with people who have problems with them. All I can say is stick at them for as long as you can, then after a few errors, take a break. Keep your calm head on. Accept the fails and remember where you have failed, if possible. Think before you jump, and never feel the need to move at a great speed (doing jumps too quickly is certainly something that can contribute to a fail). And if in doubt, yes, look for a friendly mesmer!

I also remember the JP in the Eternal Battlegrounds as being something of a challenge. When I started thinking of it as stairs and long jump, short jump, short jump (or whatever it was now!), it made it a lot more bearable.

Daydreamer's Outfit: False Advertising?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

Yeah, but there are ways to accentuate the inherent features of men/women that generally match the biological make up of the 2. That’s why cleavage works on a female & on a male it just looks like a random hole. Also, Date is wearing cloth & his setup is good. So do the Castanics. The Castanics are sexy, yet masculine, & the gear works. This just looks like a dude wearing clothes that were designed for someone else entirely.

Yeah, I’m going to have to agree: the scene missing bit on the male version isn’t quite right. I think it doesn’t go far enough south, leaving the sexy out of it and making it just odd. We don’t even get the opportunity to see manly man arms (but the female version shows arm! Why are lady arms better than man arms? Are man arms offensive?! Don’t answer that. Really. Don’t).

I had to Google Castanics (What?! I don’t TERA), and found a wonderful example of how to make male armour of this type look nice and schmexy (link prolly not for everyone, prolly NSFW):

Image of fantasy male

The individual shows a suitably low enough waistline and the difference between a random try-hard window and a window for a reason (which has nothing to do with being functional armour in the slightest!). Of course, I can’t abide the shoulders and the gauntlets, but apparently I can’t get everything! XD

One day in the life of GW2, I hope we can get just one pair of troosers of similar low waist with a top section which does not inhibit the sexy. Then I shall be happy.

You have one of those accounts. I, too, have one of those accounts. And a permanent hair stylist. Bah, humbug.

/tin foil hat off.

Honestly, I’ve been enjoying farming the Silverwastes and becoming relatively rich for it, despite constantly checking my inventory to see if I’ve somehow missed the portal drop. Today, I shall visit Dry Top, and see if there’s anything happening – though, I can see myself back in the Silverwastes by the evening. There’s only been some marginal meanness in map chat (one lane failed at VW for reasons and one or two people had a fruitless whinge about it), and mostly there’s been good old-fashioned co-operation and camaraderie – or as close as you’ll find on a map full of mostly strangers.

If I happen to get a portal drop, that would be rather groovy, but eh, I can wait for the real thing if it comes to it. I have decided! XD

This is ridiculous. If no one else is gonna say it, then ill be the one to do it.
A brief list as to why:
1. This would be unbelievably immersion breaking.
2. This would be inappropriate for a T-Rated game,
based on how a majority would use it.
3. This would be nonsensical in a combat-driven world.
4. This has no forseeable positive effect on aggregate
player experience, and in turn not be worth a second of
a developer’s time.

Conan had no problems fighting toppless.

In the Age of Conan game, both male and female characters can go around topless – a vanity armour slot allows this, should the player so wish. Topless ladies running around actually didn’t happen as often as one would think (least I hardly ever saw anything). Although, it is an 18-rated game.

Ceridwen.6703

You know, I’m going to get called all sorts for this, but.. it really doesn’t matter. Whatever race, profession, weapons or armour you use, you just need something that suits how you like to play.

Simply slot sigils of speed and runes of the centaur, pack and/or whatever else allows for swiftness increase. Then you can slot up minutes of swiftness, and then use any preferred profession mechanic for cheesily jumping ahead (GS 3 on Guardian, Ranger, Mesmer Blink, etc).

I like to keep moving on any profession, and I do tend to favour zerker stuff - however, you can try out whatever you like and see what suits you best. Once you get to 80, you might want to reconsider a few things as you’re likely kitten for other game play modes (including dungeons and fractals), but for just PvE map completion you shouldn’t have a whole heap of trouble, so long as you’re prepared to switch a few things around on the fly, and take a few minutes here and there to check yourself and what your needs are.

Ceridwen.6703

Norns are a mix of Native American and Nordic culture.

I am not sure I see the Native American referrence in Norns, can you please elaborate?

Norn combine more themes than Nordic. They also draw inspiration from D&D’s dwarves, and several tribal cultures through history, like native north americans, and they even have a bit of Australian Aboriginal in there.

Not supporting the OP in any way (because it’s bobbins), but I wanted to say totemism is also part of Norse and Germanic history. It might be a default to think of Native Americans for example, but it is more global than that (although it will be different depending on where and when you look).
Those D&D dwarves also draw on Nordic and Germanic cultures via Tolkien.

Ceridwen.6703

The very reason people, like the person who said this stuff, think they can get away with it, is because other players do nothing to try to stop them and even, in some cases (like this one), support them.

They support it often because they fear the consequences of having it fall onto them. It’s much easier for them to do that than to challenge someone who is using powerful language in a violent manner – yet even on these somewhat more civilised forums, you’ll have people claiming categorically that words can’t hurt anyone.

Hiding under a banner of free speech does not mean people get to escape the consequences of their actions. They don’t get to say there’s no counter because freedom of speech. Frankly, it’s highly illogical to do so.

Words have great power, like it or not. And, as the ineffable Stan Lee taught us, “with great power comes great responsibility” (I paraphrase). Thus, everyone has a responsibility when interacting with each other to not be a kitten. The internet is not an excuse for being a kitten. There is no excuse to be a kitten, unless you are an actual feline, in which case, you should get back to the black hole carved out just for you on YouTube.

I still, perhaps rather naively, think Bill & Ted said it best: “Be excellent to each other.”

As for you and your sister, OP, there is no excuse for how you were treated. None. But all you need do is what you have done – report, block and the offender will be dealt with. Even block the ones who supported the main offender, as they clearly aren’t worth your time.

Constant swiftness as Mesmer

in Mesmer

I use centaur runes and the focus. A bonus is you share the heal swiftness from the runes with other players. Temporal Curtain from the focus won’t always benefit others due to its non-stack nature. With timing (and/or good Curtain placement), you can achieve 100% swiftness uptime.

Whilst levelling up, I also use a sigil of swiftness. Sigils of swiftness rack up minutes of swiftness if you kill things fast enough (although maybe not so applicable in WvW). I’ve spent time trying to beat my own record of 6 minutes (or thereabouts) for fun.

Taidha IS supposed to run around the ship fort and have you fight some other champions as she runs around, but people chain immobilize her so we can kill her before that happens.

Are you sure about this?

I’ve seen it happen, like, once.

She’s SUPPOSED to die where her chest spawns.

Yes, she does work like that, teleporting to a different place around her “keep”. It was more apparent before the consolidation of event times. She didn’t fire often, however – I can’t recall if she was bugged, or if people just didn’t do her pre event. Once megaserver kicked in and people were rounded up, you could see her mechanics easily. Although, you had to stop damaging her when she had a few hit points left and started wittering about something or other – then she’d die on top of her chest (or next to it). People used to get really snarky about mesmer clones, and auto-attacks at that point! Then they updated boss times to a regular rotation, I don’t think damaging her after the previous cut-off point matters, and she just doesn’t stand up to that many people, as noted above. I think she’s included still because there is an achievement attached to her. I don’t think it would be too much to quietly remove that achievement and perhaps replace it with another – or beef her part of the encounter up.

Frankly, she should pirate some Inquest tech, zap herself Kudu style, acquire some AoEs we’ll all hate and require cannonfire to knock her head off. Meh to teleporting about into confined spaces, let’s nick those cannons we broke in the pre, repair them and … make stuff explode. Or something. I’m not entirely serious, but I do enjoy siege artillery when I can get my hands on it.

I don’t even like SAB, yet I think it should be a permanent addition. It’s just ridiculous it’s not there all the time.

We’ve had this thread before! And not so long ago, either, but it’s always fun to see it in another guise.

Were the world to go all Tyria, I’d end up a civilian, regardless of what I’d actually like. On a similar vein, despite the fact I’d love to be sylvari in the Grove in this hypothesis, RNG hates me that much I’d likely end up being a norn in Hoelbrak.

Wherever and whatever I was, I would bake cupcakes with differing benefits for the casual and not-so-casual adventurer. I’d probably expand into other baked goods as the business grows, and I’d be open for hiring others. I can be booked for weddings, parties, victory celebrations, and so on.

I would have a greater fear of spiders…

I, too, would find this problematic.

ESO brought me back to GW2

At least ESO doesn’t have the horror stories about support that Archeage has, like the ones about mass bannings of innocent people. One reason was because their automated banning system saw people rubberbanding because of lag and banned them for teleporting. Archeage’s support won’t even let you call them if you get banned. You have to use the ticket system, which could take weeks.

I remember one post on that forum during the time of mass banning, where someone was loading the game for the first time and was asking on the forum for some tips for new people. He posted in the thread later to say, “I tried to log on and found out I’ve been banned. I haven’t even played yet”

Before I seared ArcheAge with mind bullets and burned it into an ashpile, I used to travel up and down on my little farm wagon playing “Spot the Bot.” It got quite easy after a while. But AA was terrible with support, terrible with so many other things, too (except horses and gliders). ’tis a game that hates its players and wants to torture them at any and all opportunities. The last time I contacted them was to ask them to remove all my details from their systems so I could detach myself from the whole sorry mess and never look back (except on odd occasions like this, where I can enjoy the weight-off-the-shoulders feeling!).

I did Beta for ESO and have never wanted to step foot in its darkened halls ever again. It made me mildly irritated, to say the least.

No, GW2 is still where it’s at, even with my characters voicing all the other PCs on the map, with squiffy guild communications, with whatever other havoc the last patch wrought! I’m still quite a happy camper here!

  • pls send HoT beta invite, lovely, lovely Anet devs! <3 *

Most Engis don’t pack anything other than a healing turret, for 2 condi-cleanse every 15 seconds (provided you pick up and don’t detonate the turret). It is one of the reasons Engis are somewhat vulnerable to condi builds in PvP/WvW.

For PvE I doubt you will ever need more, but you can always take Elixir C. Failing that, try Sigils (Generosity, Purity), Runes (Melandru, Hoelbrak, Antitoxin) or Food – although most of those are only viable options at level 80.

Elixir C has been my go-to for levelling, so I’ll stick with it. I’ll look at those other options on my old level 80 when I play it again.

Thanks!

A few extra tips to help your leveling process :

Buying upgraded berserker gear at the TP every 5-10 levels is a good idea. Most notably at levels 21 and 60. These are the levels when gear gains it next set of stats (1-21 power, 21-60 power/precision, 60+ power/precision/ferocity)

Look into power runes to slot into your gear when leveling. Even cheap +10 power minor runes will be better then no runes at all.

I personally used sigil of air and fire when leveling. The minor and major versions are real cheap, and they’ll proc often enough once you can start picking up precision stats.

Go to the trading post and buy +10% exp potions and +15% exp food. These are both extremely cheap at 3 to 4 copper each and the food will give you extra benefits such as extra damage/health regen/etc.

Confession time!: From both a historical and current perspective, I always try to keep the same gear for as long as is possible and level in the lowest level areas possible to maximise not spending more money than I have to. I’m a major altoholic, and have 6 80s, who must be kept in the manner to which they have become accustomed!

Typically, I have level 20 gear go until level 39-40 (where I will buy a mix of rare (armour) and fine (jewellery)), and use the stuff the game gives me for any other increases (purely holding out for the major sigils).

I like Sigils of Air mostly, but am coming around to teaming that up Fire; up until Speedy Kits (or whatever profession’s nearest equivalent) I used a Sigil of Speed over Fire (I hate being slow, and will kitten myself horribly if necessary to achieve velocity; comes from being a Mesmer main). I have actively avoided runes up until 39 this time, without significant issue, but have always favoured power runes with any additional speed benefits. Couldn’t tell you what runes I popped on the now level 40-something engi right now, but I can guarantee they’re power based.

As for food, I’ll default to the highest power I can get, unless the price is ridiculous - which it is indeed, for some low level power foods. Then I get inventive and look for other things which may be fun, and tend to keep the nearest available sharpening stone to my level, which are cheap. If I know I’m going against a particular enemy, such as risen, I may take a suitable potion for that, but only if I remember. XD

Another question: what does the discerning engineer favour in condition removal these days?

I’ve been playing with the Bomb Kit and the rifle. First time out, I never liked the bombs and just did grenades (I was a Grenadier!). Now I’m enjoying the bombs, though I still love the grenades, and am flipping between Rocket Boots, the odd elixir (B and C), and the Rocket Turret. I don’t know why I skipped over Rocket Boots the first time out; they’re just tons of fun! I’ve also just acquired the Supply Crate, which is an old favourite I’m generally quite happy with.

I have gone for Speedy Kits first, as it happens, because I hate even the tiniest bit of slowness. I’ll check out Forceful Explosives when the opportunity arises!

I don’t really do FT (I have photosensitive epilepsy and the flame flickers at just the wrong frequency, sadly - I really *wish* I could use it reliably because it’s so cool!), but will have to acquire the elixir gun next. The original engi used it on occasion, so if it’s still nice I’m all for it.

How’s the Tool Kit these days? I remember back when a lot of people seemed to like it, but I didn’t particularly gel with it.

Thanks!

My first character was an engineer, back in headstart. I wasn’t very good at it, but enjoyed it enough to get it to 80, do full map completion on it and keep it in my lineup.

That said, I never really knew how to play it effectively, and thus I have recently made a new engi, just to run PvE with and relearn the profession in a way I enjoy best. I think I know what I want to run with whilst levelling - zerker - but I’m interested in what some of the more pro, fun-loving or even pro fun-loving engies recommend for levelling these days. I’d also be interested in hearing good working alternatives to zerker (whilst levelling).

So my questions are as follows:

Typically what armour do you prefer whilst levelling, and what food/utility buffs do you think work best?

What skills work best together in your opinion?

What traits, for those few precious times we get them before 80, are must haves?

Other than the above, what helps keep you alive the longest?

Again, this is just for running the basic PvE maps. There’s no dungeons, WvW, or any kind of PvP. It’s also just about personal preferences, so if there’s something one of you finds completely fun yet is less than optimal, please share! I’m not judging anyone in this thread (and neither should anyone else!), just want to ascertain what’s generally effective, what’s fun, what’s crazy, etc.

No world completion reward

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Ceridwen.6703

Ceridwen.6703

I’m not entirely certain why the confusion. As I mentioned in my OP, I did not receive the reward chest, which should be given for each character that reaches 100% world completion, and contains the Gift of Exploration (x2). As of last patch, three of my characters qualified (world completion percentage in the log-in screen is 100%), and none received the chest.

Please note, this should not be confused with the percentage you see when opening the world map. This account is old, and quite a lot of POI/hearts/vistas/sp have been added since I completed all these zones. The devs mentioned several times in the past that those only mattered for world completion for characters that had not yet completed those zones. Once a zone is completed, it stays registered as completed for the total. Or it should, anyway.

There’s no confusion. There’s just making sure certain boxes are ticked and suggesting possible causes. No one’s trying to second guess you, just trying to help – you did ask for suggestions. All I know is, I was in a similar position, thought I’d get the chest and all that, and there were still a few things missed (for example, the three “new” hearts in Plains of Ashford and Caledon Forest, despite previously completing the areas to 100%). I went and did them, and received the rewards for doing so – so whereas PoIs for areas such as the Silverwastes don’t count, those hearts in the starting areas do, even if you’ve done the area before.

But if you’ve done those hearts, done absolutely everything, then it is a bug, and nothing can be suggested other than to either wait for a fix or submit a ticket (also bugged, last I read).
